Very helpful & has a pleasant demeanor. Very opinionated, but loves to debate. She will truly challenge you to grow as a writer. A lot of work is required, but if you don't mind working hard, you should definitely take her class.
She is the only teacher that could keep me awake in an 8am class. She is a very nice and helpful teacher. She even brought us breakfast one morning! Whoelse does that? She also responds to email right away.
This is just a good instructor. What more could a new freshman ask for? She's incredibly helpful and open to others opinions and ideas. There is plenty of work, but it pays off. Please start teaching Lit. It's required for my engineering degree.
very hard, and tends to get off topic very easily and talk about things that are not relevant to the class. you get off topic and nothing gets accomplished.
Ms. Gunn is very cool. She speaks with a very clear and eye-opening tone. I have never had a dull moment in her class. She is very interested in students' opinions and is very helpful in expanding opinons into great papers. I really enjoyed her class. I wish I could take her for all my English classes at UAH.
I THOUGHT SHE MAJORLY SUCKED! I ADVISE NO ONE TO TAKE HER
Great teacher. there is never a dull moment in her class. she's tons of fun
Very unclear in her reasoning for the grades she gives out. Nice lady, not much gets accomplished though. Felt like this was a 90 minute busy work course.
Very Interesting and never a dull moment, however - she is not very fair when it comes to grading the semester project. Midway through the semester, she will tell you the errors in your project. After following the advice, the grade dropped - happened to multiple groups in my class
You have to talk to her to get a good grade. She expects you to come talk to her for clarification. Very approachable and her class actually helps you find a job.
she rocks
Reading assignments are trivial since she reads the selections in class. Loves the material and shows her excitement.
The class as a whole isn't very difficult if you know how to write for her. It seemed to me like she only cared about structure so if you have very good structure, you should do well in the class. Other than that, she is helpful and she will reread the reading assignments in class.
She made class expectations very clear and easy to follow.
I LOVE Ms. Gunn! She is an excellent teacher! I have learned SO much from her. I have learned more in her class, and remember it and us it, more than three years of high school! She teaches you about life decisions throuh her Business Writing Class. She is most definitely one of the best teachers I have ever had.
you would have to try very hard to do poorly in this class. She also favorably scales your grades at the end
She grades papers and assignments very hard and gives very unhelpful, vague comments on returned work. She does not give specific directions on assigments all at one time she mentions additional requirements randomly in class and expects them to be met. Very difficult to get an A.
If you've got any interest in English at all, please, for the love of god, avoid this teacher. It was quite honestly a joke. English is a strong point of mine, and I wound up being more or less punished for my more developed knowledge of the material than the rest of the class and, horrifyingly, the instructor herself.
nice lady and fun but very difficult to get an A. I am an A student but i got low scores on assignments for "style errors". she will randomly give requirements for assignments in class and expect them to be met. hard to know what her expectations are. also LATE EVERY DAY!!!!
She's a very nice woman, but she was late to class more often then not. She would often change the specifications of assignments or add on less than a week before the due date. She seemed very disorganized. We also had double the work the other business writing classes did. I would reccmmend looking for an alternative teacher for business writing.
Mrs. Gunn allowed her personal life to drastically interfere with the class. I wouldn't recommend her.
She was always late! LOTS of homework, but it is simple. Easy A as long as you stay on top of things...do not get behind in this class! Class always seemed rushed but I did learn a lot. Presentations were are a given 100 as long as you show up and show the effort with your team.
Wow. This was by far, the worst teacher I have EVER had. I would never imagine a teacher showing up later than all of the students but this teacher managed to. Grading was improper and unclear. She had inappropriate behavior like having her sick children in class while teaching. HUGE assignments that were pointless. Nice lady but come on.
Teaches from experience. She is lenient on assigments and gives you time to revise before sunmitting a Final grade. She is often times unclear!
I cannot believe she is rated so highly! She constantly showed up to class late, gave vague directions on assignments, and required much more work than the other business writing classes. Avoid if possible.
She added on homework assignments after the beginning of the semester. Unorganized. You have to check multiple websites to stay on top of homework. On career advice -- some she gave was fine, but some was not good! Beware of that! Read a career column in your local paper before taking her advice. Believes stereotypes on group project behavior.
I do not understand the negative comments on her. She is freaking easy and always shows up to class on time. Though I agree some of the advice she gives you for finding a job and building a resume are bad advice. Do not buy the textbook because you will NEVER use it. Also if you do not like group work do not take her class.
I took Ms Gunn for English 101 over the summer, and I thought she was great! Her lectures were informative and energetic.
I got a perfect 100 in the last composition class I took that had her in it, but each assignment I submitted this semester, that were far above and beyond what the actual requirements were, got a D on those. Highly do not recommend taking this professor for freshmen courses. Go with Sarah Barbre.
Pretty easy class! She kept me intimidated though about how we needed to keep up with *everything* in order to pass her class & then we just needed maybe two things..
Sinceree Gunn is absolutely awesome! Her class is very interesting and actually really helpful. She is a passionate instructor and wants each student to succeed. Make sure you come to class; if you miss more than 6 classes, you automatically fail. But you won't mind coming to class at all. All assignments are EASY, but she doesn't accept late work.
She is not going to provide all the answers to everything (she is not going to do the work for you), but if you have a specific question, she is very helpful. Her class was very informative and rarely boring. If she was teaching another class I needed I would sign up for it.
Love Her!
She is really nice and rmeinds me of Oprah but she is so vague and is very slow to respond to angel messages or email. She was lenient with due dates if you were behind. My big problem with her is that she was very slow to grade and she was a STICKLER. Make sure your paper is exactly how she wants it before you turn it in.
I took her for the summer. Most of the time we just worked on our semester project. Even if you didn't have anything to work on you still had to go to class because you could only miss two classes. It was hard to make higher than a B in her class because she picked everything to pieces. She always runs late and blames it on her small kids.
I absolutely love her! Best teacher that I have EVER had! Ms. Gunn really cares about helping her students.
I wasted money on a textbook for one reading assignment that I could have googled. Ms Gunn was unclear during her lectures and about assignments. She is a nice person, but a horrible instructor.
She is the best!!!!
she is a really sweet person and very willing to help, but I was confused for most of the semester and had no idea what my grade would be.After the end of the semester, she let me bring my grade up from a C to and A so that was amazing. it's a tough class though, but she's a great person.
Horrible teacher. Class was useless, I learn more professional writing on the job. Had sick children in class, multiple times. Examples given for major projects were sub-standard quality (Received grades of "C" I found out). She is a joke, for your benefit take someone else.
Wasn't clear on assignments. Grading was very subjective and she counted off for things that didn't make sense. Wasn't consistent with grading. Talked loudly. Class was useless. The major project was pointless. The book was pointless; don't purchase it.
As a person? She's a sweet heart. But that's not why I'm here. As a teacher, she was down right terrible. Even rude; one day, as I was walking through the hall, I heard her badmouthing her online students, essentially calling them dumb. Problem is, her instructions were so unclear that I dropped her class. Yet again, as a person she's sweet.
Literally the worst teacher. Would explain assignments in class, but you were NOT allowed to write notes, because apparently that means you're not paying attention? You'd look at the assignments online and they made NO sense. Very rude, rarely emailed back, never cleared anything up. Apparently I failed and she didn't tell me until week 11.
Mrs. Gunn does not make it clear what she wants, or how she is grading you. She will give you an example, and tell you not to copy it. Then you will receive a 60 on that assignment because it was "not close enough to the example." The class has little relevance to Business Writing after the first half of the semester. Good luck.
Mrs. Gunn is a very nice person but a very hard grader. There is little to no clarity on what she wants for the assignment. She says do not copy the example but then counts off for things that could not be stated any other way or for things that there were not specific guidelines for. Too many assignments. Multiple turn in places. Poor instruction.
She is the TOUGHEST grader ever. I am getting Cs and Ds on work other teachers would give As and Bs for. Seriously, she will take off 5 points per error, no matter what it is. Its stuff that no one but her would notice. She seems loony during her online lectures, SO confusing, much rambling. Don't take this class with Sinceree Gunn!!!
Taken online in the summer: Ms. Gunn teaches a class on professionalism yet when I emailed her it took her a week to get back to me and she responded "Dear Student" despite my name (x3) on the original email. Her material is all recycled referring to Fall or Spring due dates & her grading is ridiculously unjustified. Also, way too many assignments!
Worst teacher in my life, I advise all students stay clear
If possible, take someone else. She gives little to no information on what she expects. Canvas is used excessively, but nothing is managed properly. It's difficult to find what's necessary because the class's page is cluttered. Due dates are all over the place, so make sure you're emailing her with direct questions.
Ms. Gunn is a good person. That said, she does not know anything about writing for STEM and assumes all practices are only business classes. Nothing covered in this class is past 8th grade skill. She attempts to use slang to connect with her audience, only to fail at correct usage. I would not take her for Tech Writing. She does not know it.
Tons of assignments. Something is due every other day! Extremely fair teacher and is willing to work with student. Does not accept late work, but makes exceptions. Do not spend more than 45 minutes on any one assignment, her words. If you meet with here even once, you will appreciate how nice she is and willing to help you succeed.
She's a teacher who knows her stuff and she questions everything you say as if she can't understand it. She marks the hell outta papers if you're not careful. You really have to work at it to get it and understand it. You'd think it's the right idea on your paper; but she'll tell you otherwise. Almost all the things you say she'll deem confusing.
Fantastic - I really felt like she actually cared about her students.
The entire class is a disaster. Laziest professor I've ever taken. Course calendar and video lectures are a mess. All of the assignments reference due dates that are sporadic and she rambles aimlessly in her lectures. Assignment expectations are unclear, and she'll dock points for anything she can. Take someone else to save yourself and your GPA.
By far the worst online class ive ever had im taking her for EH 300 she makes me not want to take anymore online classes. Disorganized, does not give good feedback and iks very unclear woth exspectations . Left with a C oh and she does not respond to my emails
The assignments are not hard -she just requires to do a good bit of work. I am a procrastinator and do things an hour before the due time and I have a 95 right now. Her assignments should not take longer than 45 mins (her words). Sometimes she gives you an opportunity to fix your assignment if not done properly or turned in late.
Worst organization EVER. Isn't clear on assignment guidelines (and makes us re-do work entirely when one little thing isn't perfect). Incredibly rude to students who ask for clarification. Won't answer questions over email. Requires a MASSIVE group project- ONLINE. This was nearly impossible to do, esp. when she's never clear about expectations.
Sporadic due dates and unorganized criteria, yet the nit-pickiest teacher for assignments that only require a junior high skill level. My genuine advice for this class is to treat every assignment with a fine-tooth comb and youll get an 80 if youre lucky. Brutal, brutal grader.
I did not learn anything about technical writing in this class. I fully applied myself in this class and learned nothing. Instead of teaching technical writing skills, she uses poorly made homemade videos that do not explain anything well. And if you take her hybrid 301 class, she wastes class days telling irrelevant stories. But she is very kind.
Some of these reviews had me concerned, but in the end, I'm so glad I took her. She honestly cares about students, and goes above and beyond to help.
I enjoyed taking this class online. It required a lot of work, but nothing was too difficult to complete. The only factor to pay attention to is making sure all of your assignments get turned in on time.
She has a good heart. Do your work and you will be fine. Smiley.
She cares a lot about her students. Her lectures are a little rambly but you dont need to watch most of them anyway. Just keep up with the due dates and you will get an A. You do not learn too much about technical writing to be honest.
Sinceree is a very kind person. That being said, her class is full of rambling lectures, tiny details graded harshly, she assigns tons of little assignments so you have something due daily, and she takes forever to grade but expects you to submit your assignments by 5 pm. No late work accepted. The group assignment is awful. Would not recommend.
If you have to take this class, I would recommend her. She gave clear instructions on what her expectations were and how to succeed in her class. She cares about her students deeply and helps develop your writing for a professional career. Definitely do the manual project alone if you're taking this class online.
I would not recommend taking this class. She is a very harsh grader and made each assignment way more difficult than it needed to be. There was also a massive group assignment that she made extremely difficult because of the way she had her assignments set up in canvas.
She’s very kind and sweet, a lot of busy work, had a 25 question CANVAS quiz, big assignments always fall due week of midterms and due at 9pm. Any lab will teach you this stuff, the class is useless as far as new material is concerned, she can be very nit picky, be prepared to always be doing something even if it’s useless
Sinceree is a business professional and wants everyone to be a part of every class. She is one of the most talkative, approachable teachers I've ever had! Pros: - her organization is exceptional - every date, assignment, rubric, etc is aligned with a structured syllabus - her teaching style aligns with the workplace Cons: - requires dedication
This Professor is awful. Her guidelines are extremely unclear. There are multiple assignments due each class (6 last week). Each assignment has multiple parts. Her lectures are completely useless, and if you mess up ANYTHING in an assignment you get a 0 and have to do it again. This Professor needs to find something else to do than torture students
Great professor for EH301. Although I did not learn anything about technical writing over the semester, I did learn plenty about writing and forming documents used in the workplace. Stay on top of your assignments and due dates. If you ever have questions she is very accommodating and wants to help you succeed in this course.
This teacher is an embarrassment to UAH. The class has nothing to do with business writing and is just a lesson in terrible boss management. Expectations are not presented coherently, due dates are hidden within other past due dates, due dates shift at the last minute, grading is all over the place, lectures are useless ramblings and YouTube videos
She is nice and willing to help but her class is garbage. I learned nothing about analyzing or business strategies. The group project has nothing to do with the title of this course. She uses online lectures that have been recorded up to 5 years ago. They ramble and include little to no information. Choose another teacher.
She is nice, kind, and helpful. She explains every assignment, but there is too much work. Every two days, there is homework to complete, and even for her quizzes, you must write and explain in Word, for example, how you will use design elements in your work. T
dooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooont take it. if you wish to keep you GPA high, plz avoid this class. to many writting
void this class, save your GPA, yourself, health, money, time, life, and your hair from falling out, she very difficult .
Don't take this class save your life
Horrible, she doesn't care about you. she takes forever to grade I have things not graded since January ,
This class is waste of time and money and she has you complete useless homework and tests as well. Please explain why you used each and every feature in your flyer. foolish things that take up your entire day. how that will benefit my career
She is such a nightmare, find another teacher, please. Because she is lifeless, she is unconcerned about your quality of life. Six classes are equivalent to hers.
She is incredibly kind and loving, and she supports me in my academics. I adore her; Ms. Gunn is aware of the importance of family. She works with me to extend the deadline for the assignment without docking points for late submission since she wants her students to succeed.
Most announcements are full of grammatical errors and are hard to understand. I worked as a professional for 10 years before taking this course and can say with certainty, she has never worked in the industry. Also, be ready to have to meet with a group of up to 5 on a regular basis and work with them even in an online only course.
Where do I begin? This is probably the worst class I've ever taken in college simply because of how unnecessarily difficult it is. Miss a comma in an assignment? 50% taken off. Are your group members not helping you with the work? Buckle up, buttercup. You're doing it all on your own. Avoid, avoid, AVOID, I cannot stress this enough.
I had the honor to take Professor Gunn's Summer '23 course and absolutely loved both the class set-up and her. The summer class was great; she did tell me that her full course was much more work so I recommend taking the summer course! Most things taught in this class were things I can apply to actual life and my future career, so I am thankful!
Terrible teacher, will not take her again. She does not adjust well for an asynchronous online class setting due dates and times that expect students to work on group work until the last minute.
Her guidelines for grades are not clear. She takes forever to respond to emails, 8/10 would not take again.
Terrible. Her class is not set up to succeed. Her assignments are confusing, and she doesn't respond to emails. She is the worst teacher I've ever had. There are tons of grammatical errors in the assignment prompts that make it almost impossible to understand. Please don't take her unless you want a lesson on how awful a teacher can be.
Probably the highest effort:learning ratio I've run into in 3 years of taking university classes. Assignments are all created to give the *appearance* of development while being the most busywork I've done since high school. I'm not a fan of "traditional" English class design but legitimately anything would be better for my mental health than this.
The way she grades is infantilizing. At the beginning of the semester, she lays out a "grading contract" (falsely implying any amount of two-sided agreement) that stipulates an extremely harsh revision process to fix even the most minor of clerical errors in every assignment. If you miss a single revision, you cannot get a good grade. Avoid her.
This class is difficult in the worst way. There are some classes that challenge you because the things you are learning is hard. This class is challenging because there is too much work assigned and because the teacher does not respond to emails when emailed about confusing communication.
I wouldn't recommend taking any course with Professor Gunn unless you enjoy wasting your time, being frustrated, and receiving unjustly harsh grades without any real learning experience. Save yourself the trouble and look for a more qualified instructor who actually cares about teaching and the success of their students.
I could go on for days why you shouldn't take her. She never responds to emails, takes months to grade, extremely harsh grader, and is very irritating overall. She just gives out busy work and wastes your time. She intentionally does not respond to students. I'm seriously surprised she can teach at UAH. I'm ashamed that I paid for her class.
AVOID! Her "grading agreement" contradicts itself, but you'll fail if even a single assignment doesn't meet her requirements. Revisions allowed until week 14, but she takes too long to tell you what to revise. Discussions meant to emulate work conversations must have a single post per day for 5 days, rather than 5 posts in 1 day like at a real job.
Sinceree is a very sweet person and truly cares for her students' academic and professional success... That being said, this course is a complete waste of time. It's not very hard, but takes up tons of time. It should be a crime that I had to pay money for this course.
Do everything in your power to avoid Gunn. Unclear directions, untimely responses, overly harsh grading criteria, clearly inexperienced instruction, and so much more. I have never had a worse experience with any professor. Save your time and money and sanity and just do not do it.
My favorite professor so far. She uses real life applications to help us understand why we should be clear and concise in business writing. She wrote the policies and procedures in an ineffective manner and made it confusing for us students. But we understood real time the importance of how we write in real time. Fantastic professor. Lets us revise
Gives so much homework it overloads the students. It is too much work for students.
Do not take her, she gives you revisions but is vague in how to revise your work. You also have to write a 100-200 word memo on what you did wrong along with every assignment that she marks as incomplete. Due dates are at 5:00PM, this is absolutely insane. People are taking full course loads 10am-840PM and this is not even a TECHINCAL WRITING CLASS
I do not care for Dr. Gunn, she barely responds to emails on an online class and her instructions can be vague.
Ms. Gunn is one of my favorite professors so far. She gives you a checklist of things to do in order to get a B, and you can do two extra assignments to get an A. She allows you unlimited revision attempts after due dates, as long as you submit something initially, and is extremely helpful when you reach out to her or go to her office hours.
The grade you get in Prof. Gunn's class is largely dependent on how polished your writing skills already are, and how willing you are to look at feedback and revise your work. You can revise previous assignments to get the maximum grade all the way up to the end of the course. If you can format documents correctly, you are already halfway to an A.
Dr. Gunn's class can be a mixed bag. While she's caring, the workload is heavy and her grading criteria can be unclear. Luckily, tools like Unstuck AI helped me prepare and stay on top of things. Overall, it's a tough but worthwhile course if you're willing to put in the effort.
The instructor's overbearing teaching style, including excessive explanations and strict formatting rules, is perceived as condescending.
Professor Gunn is a really nice lady. You'll have lots of hw but it doesn't take long. The grading agreement is weird you have to do “Level Up” assignments which are outside of class stuff like going to the career fair and writing an essay about if you want an A. 2 presentations in here one is a 2-minute talk solo and the other is group.
Wastes lots of time talking and overexplaining. So many revisions required and seems she always finds a flaw no matter how many times you revise. The assignments are 15% technical writing and the rest is learning how to write a resume and cover letter…in a 300 level class. I cannot say I could effectively do technical writing after this course.
I took the summer 10-week course. The professor has a kind, outgoing personality, and you can tell she cares about students' success. We worked on resumes, cover letters, and business letters in this course and gave each other feedback on them. We also had a group project where we made a 5 min video presentation on a topic she picked out for us.
50% of the grade was participation and feedback assignments. The other 50% are your final exam documents. If your lazy group members turn in subpar work you are responsible for correcting all of their mistakes. Provided feedback at the last minute then graded the final exam documents harshly based on rushed low quality feedback. Womp Womp
