Great teacher. Just don't talk when she is and show her some respect. Her exams are easy if you go to class and study.
Very nice...sort of unclear shes from Africa and hard to understand some times. go to class youll be fine...tests dont count for alot but she gives many.
she is hard to understand sometimes, and if you dont ask a question correctly she might not answer you, but if you go to the class and take some notes youll be good to go, and the grades will show it!!!
She's hard to understand at times, and her tests get harder through out the year. Go to class and study the notes--you'll be fine. Just gets dull towards the end.

ok so she's from Kenya, so you can't understand her. she could be a sweet lady outside of class, but inside she's a very boring and slow lecturing professor. the exams are short but do not cover half the material she covers in lectures. DO NOT TAKE HER!!
Ok, the woman didn't know that the first amendment was freedom of speech. She swears it is the 14th... Her class is pointless, she is random and slow in her lectures. If she gets mad at the class she makes you outline the whole textbook chapter for h.w.
She doesnt finish lectures cause shes too busy giggling at herself so she gives outlines on blackboard. you study the outline like crazy..get to the exam and guess what? NONE OF THE S**T ON THE OUTLINE IS ON THE EXAM!! WTF?
Class is entirely too easy. It isn't even worth going to class because you can't understand a thing she says and her lectures aren't on the test anyway. Just read the book and show up for the seven tests she gives - you'll get an A.
Everyone in the class makes fun of her and talks over her. I think that everyone would get more out of the lectures if people would shut up and listen. No, she can't pronounce certain words but she is really nice and will work with you.

Very easy all you have to do is study the overheads she gives and you will definently get an A on every test. Don't pay attention to lectures just copy the overheads
she's nice but she is an awful prof. Her tests favor certain concepts and she fails to give out proper notes to study. Scared of copyright laws so she doesn't give full notes. Grading point system is rediculous. Would be easy if she taught logically.
This is by far the worst professor i have had throughout college. It amazes me that she has a doctorate, guess what its from another country. who ever hired her should have their job examined. shes not logical, and has no opinion of her own.DO NOT TAKE!

I took her course last semester and learned a lot from this instructor. But, there were some students who were disrespectful and some who were outright biased and ignorant. Those are the ones who write hateful things about people. Take the course.
Regardless of what others say...the flat out truth is she is not a good professor. She was rude to students who asked questions, hard to understand, and didnt test on the material she put on the study guide. She ADMITTED to using TRICK questions on exams.

She is willing to help you out. She puts notes and study guides on blackboard for you. She changes things to help you and the class. She is really nice.

In SOCI 4000 she requires about 5 papers (summer session) but grades them pretty easy and her comments tell you exactly what she is looking for. Her office is always open, very approachable.
I loved Dr. Kimuna. She seems to be a very sweet person and is always willing to help you out if you need it. Just go over the chapter outlines and do the study guides to help you study.

I am taking this course for the second time and I am learning more from Dr. Kimuna than I learned from another professor last semester. She posts her lectures and provides study guides for her exams. What more can you ask for? Do your work and you will pass!!!!
Ms Kimuna is very helpful. Her office is always open. She always makes time for students. I am glad I am taking her course. My other professors are not as concerned as she is. Take her course and find out for yourself
Dr. Kimuna is a very nice person. She's always willing to help, and the course itself isn't hard. Just keep up with the readings, do the study guide, and you'll do fine on the exams.

DROP THIS CLASS NOW!!!! Yes she tries to help but her help leaves u worse off. She gives study guides but you will flunk test if you only study the study guide. It is best to look for a different teacher.

Dont ever even think about signing up for this class. She assigned us a 5 page paper due EVERY week and grades them and everything else in the class extremely harsh. Drop it now before its too late!
This class has a lot of work. She expects you to write analyses and a final research paper. But you learn a lot. And the exam was way too difficult.
This an intro class and she expects you to write a paper on some stupid social aspect like gender communication. she is way too demanding but I learned a lot. If you want to learn a lot about sociology take if not steer away from her.
Her quizzes are easy if you read and go over the notes. She makes the concepts easy to understand, but you have to put your part of the work into it also. I enjoyed it, it was interesting.
Ms. Kimuna is great and very helpful. I like that she provides lecture notes on Blackboard and her quizzes are not bad if you read the chapters before class.
I like Dr. Kimuna. she is very good at what she does. I also like the fact that she posts lecture notes on blackboard. it makes is much easier to follow in class. you just have to study really hard for the tests. they are pretty tough.
Dr. Kimuna is very nice and if you go to lecture and read over the notes she puts on blackboard, you will be fine. I also read the summary of the chapter at the end of the book and it helps. she does have an accent but it is british so you usually know what she is talking about, if not, you can ask her again and she will be happy to clarify.
She is very sweet and she if very helpful. if you need anything, she will gladly help you understand anything. class discussions are awesome and she welcomes all answers and she actually tells you the reason why an answer is wrong. she will not just leave you in wonder. i don't know what the other people were talking about, but she hasn't made us write very many papers.
She is easy, takes random attendance but not very often, easy quizzes but you have to study for the exams. She is sweet, wants to answer questions and help you. The only bad thing is that she lacks clarity sometimes, thinking she is right when you read the opposite of what she said in the book. But if you point it out she will correct herself.
i hated this class. whenever i would email her she would never write back. and whenever i would set up an appointment, she would never keep it. she is hard to understand and kind of rambles on and on. i would have dropped the class if i could have.
She is so sweet. Her smile brightened up every MWF morning. The tests are difficult. Some of the questions seem to have at least 2 answers that are the same, but there's only one right answer. This class is not easy at all. The teacher can not teacher good and she can not speak english clear at all. When she gives lectures on the discussions in class you practically have to translate what she is saying to understand the topic. The exams are hard and she takes attendance everyday and gives random quizzes. You have to study alot!!!!!
She is a nice lady. Her class is extremely hard to sit through. She often times contradicts herself but insists that she is still right. You have to keep up with her 12pg long syllibus or you will never know when to turn in assignments. She also will treat you like a 5th grader. Also very left wing biased.
The tests are a little difficult. The other reviewers said it - she contradicts herself and it seems like she doesn't know what she's talking about. The purpose of this class is basically to brainwash you. However, Dr. Kimuna is pretty pleasant even though she's a little strange.
I really did not like the course material even though I liked Dr. kimuna. The tests can be a little tricky, she does take attendance and gives quizzes at the end of every chapter lecture. She is quite biased & can be confusing, but she is very nice and friendly,& in my opinion a better teacher than the alternatives for this course.
I did not find her hard to understand, I thought she spoke great english. If you go to class, thats all you really need to do. She tells you exactly what issues will be on the tests and the quizes come right from the lectures. Dr. Kimuna is not the best professor. The first day, we all thought she was the nicest lady and would be the greatest professor-wrong. She is not helpful one-on-one and is rude when you have questions for her. She gives popquizzes often which can help you on the tests...but the tests are ridiculously hard. Dont take her...

I wouldnt recommend taking her, but its not the end of the world if you get stuck with her. Just COME TO CLASS and read ahead in the book before class.
Kimuna isnt the greatest teacher but her class isnt that hard. Honestly I showed up to class on a day we had an exam and didnt know we were having one and still got a B......Dont read anything she says to or do any outlines just do the study guides cuz that is usually whats on the exam

She is a great professor. She teaches, and adds humor to her lectures. Tests and quizzes ARE hard though. Read the book and you should be fine! She goes over the main bullet points. Attendence is important because she gives pop quizzes. Great class to take though!
VERY good professor...not sure why there are so many bad reviews. She really knows the subject and LOVES teaching it. Her quizzes and tests are hard. No homework and I only opened the book once for study purposes. She tells lots of good stories that relates to the lecture. You get used to the accent.
This class wouldn't be that difficult if the quizzes and tests were just a little easier. She covers a lot of content at once on the test so you have to study. The book was never required but was recommended for studying purposes. She gives somewhat frequent pop quizzes if you skip class. She talks a lot but tends to make it interesting.

Sweetest prof. i've had as of yet. Really passionate, willing to go above and beyond to help you understand material. GO TO CLASS and READ YOUR TEXTBOOK! a lot of her exam questions are examples directly from her material. She will remember your face and is great with names, so be sure to speak in class, you'll end up with a good grade.
Bad teacher. I am a hard working student yet I had to drop this class because she can't teach. She tells us to read the book but that doesn't compensate for her lack of teaching skills. She is extremely dry and she put me to sleep even when I drank a energy drink before her class. Unless you have a strong passion for Sociology, find a new teacher.

She's a really nice lady and means well, but the class and subject material was not interesting at all. You must attend class or you will be lost, pop quizzes as well. Read the book if you can, definitely study for the tests and do the extra credit! She's helpful if you go to her, so definitely do that! You should be okay if you really try, though.
Extremely hard. Is not very clear about what she wants you to do in assignments, nor about what assignments you much do because she said 2 are optional. Gives study guide just like test, but have to find all answers in book. Would not take unless you have no choice
I really enjoyed her class. The material wasn't terribly interesting most of the time but I could tell it was something she really enjoyed talking about, and her passion for the topic made class a lot easier for me. She also throws in some jokes here and there, always really unexpectedly to gain attention. I would recommend her to anyone who asked.
This is the most feminist teacher that I've ever had. Test are somewhat hard but you can't even understand her during lectures and her study guides are of no use. Now if you get a kick out of a funny acsent or the thought that all men are evil then by all means take this class. I would never take one of her classes again.
Do not take this professor for anything. She is not clear on what she expects for her assignments. Her multiple choice section is harder than her short answer on her tests. However, on her study guides she gives you a long list of possible short answer questions, and all of the ones on the tests are on that list.
Pay attention, do the reading, you'll do well. Easy and interesting class. Dr. Kimuna is a decent professor and a nice lady.
I really enjoyed her class. She probably gets bad reviews from people who don't really like sociology anyway so I'm not entirely sure one should trust these posts. I thought she was funny and made the class interesting. The accent made her difficult to understand for the first class or two but I adjusted quickly and it's actually really cute! :)
This class wouldn't be so bad, if it weren't for the teacher. I am taking her class right now and I do not like her at all. Your only grades in the class are 4 quizzes and 4 tests, and they are super hard. She gave us a 75 question test today to complete in 50 minutes, and rushed us to finish up after the majority of the class wasn't even done.
I have used this website in the past because it is helpful, but I was never thinking about making an account. After taking this course I had to make an account just to tell anyone looking to take a course with this teacher to take it with a different professor. You will NOT pass this class with a good grade even if you try your hardest.

She's the kind of professor that's every student's nightmare when dealing with her online courses. She's very unwilling to compromise when you talk to her about a low grade you got in her blackboard discussions and gives me the impression that she doesn't read them. Long story short if you want your GPA intact, don't take her course.

This class was pretty awful but I dont think it was fully her fault. All the freshman blabbing their mouths the entire period pissed her off 90% of the time so she made the pop quizzes free-response which is extremely difficult with the exact yet similar definitions in sociology. She will help in her office hours though. BEST GRADING RUBRIC ON CAMP

Worst instructor I have ever had. Syllabus is very clear, did not announce textbook until day of class had an assignment due that night. Does not answer email, changes grading criteria, . Grading- have to write 5 page ananylis of film, I got 10/20 because I did not cite a reference on my personal opinion. Summer session-2 weeks to get grades. BAD!
Drop this class while you can! You could study all night long and no matter what you do you still will not pass. The only grades are tests and pop quizzes and the information on the tests aren't even relevant to anything discussed on the pps. Its very difficult to understand any of the information she talks about and her accent makes it worse.

I would not recommend this course for people who are not majoring in Sociology. She consistently discusses the three theoretical perspectives and speaks about many people who came up with sociological terms. She requires five 5-page analysis to be written. Her midterm was very difficult and based on the text. Get to know her and you will pass.

Took this class expecting that It would be easy .... Her accent is strong and she talks fast! ! She doesn't post her powerpoint slides to blackboard, give out study guide or homework to prepare for test . I sadly failed this class and will be taking the course again but with someone else
Dr. Kimuna is a sweet lady if you get to know her. if you skip class, you wont pass. I never skipped a day and made a C+. The tests require you to know the book well. Luckily, I had a friend to help me with what i didnt understand. She offers around 17 extra points of extra credit that raised my grade from a C to a C+
She is extremely unclear throughout the class. You basically have to teach yourself but gives credit if you talk in class and take advantage of the extra credit opportunities but that still did not help me when it came to the tests. Literally almost everyone got either a F or a D-
She's a wonderful person, but not a very good teacher. She's very quiet and what she talks about is not often on the test. Even reading the textbook can only get you so far. How she words her tests are quite strange and they are designed to make you slip up. She does grade on a 12 point scale, which is very nice. I would not recommend this class.
dont take the class. dont take the class. i took this class expecting an averge social science class but it is now my worst grade. keep in mind i have organic chem and anatomy. her tests are way too hard and do not line up with the material she gives and her accent is hard to understand lecture material. do NOT take the class, you WILL regret it.
The WORST professor I've ever had over summer. Changes due dates constantly, no way to plan around her syllabus, 5 pg papers weekly, 3 pg discussion boards weekly, her directions are always incredibly vague. Sticks to the idea that "no one helped me so don't expect me to help you." Any professor would be better.
Ive never written a review on this site before, but felt the need with this professor! She is the worst professor Ive ever taken at ECU. She gives 100 exams for 75 minutes which equals 45 second per question. The problem with the exam is that it is not just multiple choice, but matching and essay questions and they are worded badly! DO NOT TAKE!!
2nd time I've taken this professor for credit. Does not stick to her own syllabus, gives wrong info and blames students. Gives a ridiculous amount of questions (short answer and matching) on her tests which you only have 75 minutes to complete. Doesn't answer email, doesn't help. Makes it nearly impossible to be successful. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. she will tell you you only need to know chapters 1-4 for an exam, and then all test questions pertain to chapter 6. Does not go by her syllabus, very difficult to understand, extremely boring lectures.
Dr. Kimuna did not know much of her own material. Very unclear in explaining materials. We had an exam one time, the graduate assistant was late for the exam day and we lost 20 minutes on our exam time. No one really finished the exam so she offered 10 pts. extra credit. Wants you to read ALOT on your own. Does offer extra credit, it will save u!!!
Dr. Sitawa is respected and very educated in Sociology. I have taken 2 courses with her, both had 5 assignments (2-5 pg papers) and 3 tests. Her tests are based on the textbook and she offers very detailed study guides. I passed both of her courses by completing the study guides in advance and doing the assignments. She offers EC on the tests.
She makes no sense at all, and constantly changes the syllabus. If you want to take this class please wait and take it with another professor who teaches it. It is mandatory to take this course for sociology majors and you need to do well so take it with anyone besides her. Also accent is thick and is difficult to understand
The material is not difficult but Dr. Kimuna assigns the whole textbook to read pretty much which is hard during one summer session. If you don't have much else going on the read is worth it for the film analysis. All of the answers from the tests (100 Q's/1.5 hr) come straight from the book and videos. Discussion boards are just busy work.
If you want your GPA to sink like the Titanic, this is the class for you! This professor makes you get a textbook that doesn't include all of the information she wants you to know. The other information is "covered in class." Periodic pop quizzes are given out on chapters she hasn't gone over in class! She doesn't follow any lecture notes either!
this class is BRUTAL. 12/10 would not recommend. sweet lady almost makes me feel bad that I would rather die then go to her class. she is all over the place and i never know what she's talking about. pop up quizzes for attendance purposes, barely ever gives them but its the only reason i show up to class. worst class I've ever taken. would NOT recommend!!! She does offer extra credit but puts it in blackboard wrong. Pop quizzes are given for attendance purposes, but what is on the quizzes is not covered in class. She does give a study guide, but I had to google the answers because they weren't in the book or the PPTs. Half the time she does not know what she is talking about.
Rip if you have to take a class under her. Gives 60s and 40s amongst the majority of the class for discussion boards, her explanation for such is that we didnt answer all the questions even though we have. Even after being more thorough and detailed, everyone gets the same result, quite defeating. Avoid if possible.
My experience: I could not for the LIFE of me get full credit on discussion boards; she never gave me or anybody else feedback on what I did right or wrong. Try to email her? forget it- you'll be lucky to hear from her within the week. The rubric for grading is SO vague. The study guides are USELESS so make sure you just read/review everything.
Vague rubric, no feedback, takes a week to email back, NO extra credit even if asked, unfair grading depending on student, despises communication between students, gives out a useless study guide 2 days before the exam. There are NO ways to make up points but theres no way to know what you did wrong. Her feedback "good work" or sends pic of rubric.
She has ridiculously high expectations, especially for an online class. She is pretty limited on email, she will respond but her word is final so if you have further questions or need clarification she will not respond. She sets guidelines for assignments but doesn't follow them. I would not recommend taking a class with her. She can be pretty rude
I definitely do not recommend taking her online for any of the summer sessions. The class is impossible to gain any points in. Exams, only 3 with 90 mins for 100 questions which is super stressful. Class average on most exams is a 75. Provides no feedback, just throws PPT's and uses DB's as busy work.
Her syllabus was from a year ago, so none of the dates were right. For the mid-term, we didn't get a study guide and I was lucky that I looked at canvas or else I would have missed the midterm because there was also no announcement. She is incredibly vague with her instructions, if she gives any at all and her feedback is slim to none.
There is one or two discussion boards a week which helps the grade some, but there is so much reading and so many notes. It is so much information and the majority of your grades are tests. She doesnt really help that much when you need it so i struggled a lot
I don't recommend her class at all. There are a few discussion boards you will have to do, but other than that, the only grades for the class will be your tests. (Which is only 4) So if you are not a good test taker than you are basically screwed in her class.
This professor is so bad online. I barely passed this class and had very little resources to pass. She wouldn't let me see my over all grade all semester and her lessons were messy and very time consuming and were hard to understand. Don't recommend
The tests. 100 questions on each test, not open book, and only 75 minuets to complete it. Long story short, I didn't finish the tests and she said it is because I have a disability and took too long on each question. I DO NOT HAVE A DISABILITY. THE QUESTIONS AND THE TIME LIMIT ARE RIDICULOUS. So no, I do not recommend this professor. End of rant.
Her tests are ridiculous. Each of her tests are 100 questions long with 75 minutes allotted to complete them. They are comprised of long questions with long answer choices that take AT LEAST a minute to just read, and yet you are only given about 45 seconds for each question. When contacted, she is pretty rude and unhelpful.
I 100% do not recommend taking this class with Prof. Kimuna. I had it online due to COVID and the tests ask the most random questions that are so hard to even understand. The tests were 100 questions with only 75 minutes to take them you never have enough time no matter how well you know the material. It's horrible and she is no help.
The tests. 100 questions with 75 minutes to complete the test. This professor will deduct points off for things that are not even listed in the syllabus. DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE!!! It is absolutely horrible along with the professor. If your beliefs do not line up with hers with the reflections, prepare yourself to fail the assignment.
Don't take sociology with this Professor. I took it online and BARELY passed with an A. There is 480 points total, from 4 tests worth 100 points each. Additionally, there are 8 reflection papers worth only ten points each. You have to watch hour-long videos and write a two-page paper when they are only worth ten points. tests are long and w no time
Listen to the rest of the reviews do not take this class. This has to be the worst professor Ive ever had. She basically gets paid to make us do her job. I dont even think she graded the work. Ive never heard her voice, shes never done a lecture, the videos are long and boring. Its hard to get an a. Her grading system is horrible.
Class was asynchronous, and she didnt teach. Lectures were posted and the textbook taught me what wasnt included. At least 10/100 questions on the tests werent from either. You get 75 minutes for those 100 questions, take that as you will. I appreciate how she has a 10 point range for an A. Maybe she is great in person, but wasnt a fan online.
This professor is awful! Please never enroll in one of her courses. She does not care about the academic success of her students and is not willing to help them succeed. The work load is crazy and all of her material is very cryptic. Some people were not meant to teach and this woman definitely is one of them!
This professor is a very tough grader, it's like no matter how hard you try she or her TAs will find something wrong that you've done in your submitted work. If you can choose another teacher please do. It seems like she doesn't care about her student's success. Choose another teacher if possible, believe the reviews.
This professor is honestly one of the most difficult professors I have ever dealt with in my entire life. They don't release assignments until a day before they are due (and trust me... the assignments take HOURS). Any assignment I've turned in has been nit-picked by either her or her TAs. Please take another professor!!!!!
Almost nothing taught in class is relevant to the exams, there is actually almost no correlation between lecture material and exams. The class agreed with this and she had no real solution and did not see the problem. Grade mostly determined by the 3 exams
your only grade in the class is tests and they have nothing to do with the material learned. you do a few discussion boards but they wont impact your grade compaired to tests. got a 10/10 on all assignments but sat at a 77 all semester because of how heavy the tests are
The class is heavily test-focused, so staying on top of the material is crucial. Thankfully, unstuck study and other study tools helped me prepare. Overall, a challenging but manageable course.
Tests are extremely difficult and the PowerPoints she posts have little to nothing to do with them. If you want to do well on the Tests, you have to memorize every tiny little detail in the YouTube videos she posts. Though the reflections she assigns are pretty leniently graded, and her threshold for an A is a 90 as opposed to the usual 94.
My grandfather passed away the day a test was due, and they did not let me retake it that day. I got a zero even after I had explained to them my situation. This is the least compassionate and understanding professor I have had. I would never choose her again.
Highly do not recommend this professor. She is extremely unclear in her assignment instructions. If you ever are having trouble and are confused and ask for help, she NEVER helps you. She never answers your questions, and tells you to post them in the class discussion so others can see it. When you post your questions she still does NOT answer them
Work is pretty easy and doesn't take long, but watching the documentaries gets annoying eventually. Doesn't post any lectures, only PowerPoints. VERY EXAM HEAVY, if you bomb an exam, it doesn't matter what you get on your assignments because you're cooked until the next one.
She is bad at responding to emails you have to message her on canvas and even then she'll take days to respond. She is a rough grader and barely gives any assignments out. The only form of studying you have is the readings. No practice test. No study guide and the slides make no sense.
