the only chemistry teacher at UNO that i am actually LEARNING chemistry from (not just getting curves because no one does well on tests). focuses more on concept than memorizing equations. the tests are difficult, but not impossible to get good grades on. teaches night classes. great teacher!
He's a good teacher. Gives great real life examples and focuses on concepts rather than memorization. His tests are mostly from his notes, so attendance is important. Has a tendency to go off subject and loses track of time. Most of the time, class goes by pretty quickly.
I didn't like him at first cuz i thought he went off topic way too often...but i stuck out with the class and im SO glad i did. he is a wonderful chemistry teacher, and has a good heart. he gave us homeworks and like...two easy quizzes (what's your favorite book?) the homeworks were a little challenging though, but useful!
DR. GALLAGHER IS AWESOME! HE HAS A GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR AND WILL STICK AROUND AS LONG AS YOU NEED AFTER CLASS TO HELP YOU UNDERSTAND EVERYTHING!! HE'S NOT THE USUAL BORING FACT OBSESSED PROFESSORS AT UNO AND I AM ACTUALLY LEARNING SOMETHING!! TAKE THIS PROFESSOR IF YOU TAKE CHEM
I was so nervous at the beginning of the semester bc I thought I was going to have to take Pierce agagin, but I was so relieved to see Gallagher. Not onyl is he hilarious, but he really knows his stuff. He moves quickly through the material but will devote all of the time necessary outside of class to help with questions. Totally cute too!!
He's so funny. He teaches you real world facts. Awesome!
Great professor. Interesting, funny, and helpful. Also, very attractive!
He was an amazing teacher. I would tell anyone to take his class. The online homework was hard, but his tests are straight from the study guides.
Very hard!!! Online homework was super hard and it didn't go with his lectures and good luck with trying to understand his hand writting. Gave quizzes every week and each were difficult. Take my advice..... DO NOT take his class!
I thought this class was very interesting and although sometimes it is easy to get confused if you go talk to him he is very thorough and helpful. The online assignments were alright not too hard and but definitely not easy. Overall I liked him and if you know the study guide then you will do fine on the tests.
Easy enough if you study, but jumps around from topic to topic so much that you become lost during class. Not recommended, but not a total disaster either.
His test is straight forward from his study guide. If you pay attention in the class, do the homework and study from his study guide, you will have no problem getting a good grade. The quizes are not hard. He is actually helping students to study by giving quizes and homework. Overall, I like him. I learned a lot from his class.
The low-level chemistry classes are VERY difficult if you have had no prior, or not very good, experience in chemistry. But Professor Gallagher does a very good job teaching and explaining things, especially if you are having trouble. He assigns homework, and has quizzes usually twice a week, they are not terribly difficult IF you make an effort.
Very hard class if you had no previous experience. He is very knowledgeable about the subject but I found that it was difficult for him to relay it to others. The homework assignments are difficult but are extremely helpful in learning the material. He is tough but very helpful and understanding IF he sees that your making an effort.
Class moved very quickly! He assigns a lot of work. He is very animated in his explanations. Professor is hard to talk to.
I loved his class and didn't think it was too hard. However, I had a very strong chem background to start with. He was willing to stay after class and go over questions I had. He enjoyed what he did. I would recommend him. He did move very quickly through the course though.
Great professor! Actually speaks English. Goes rambling off subject frequently but interesting and continues to to talk about chemistry. Takes coca-cola bribes.
Really Good Professor. He knows what he is talking about and he helps you understand everything clearly. If you need help he is at his office. Of course, You will need to study but overall his tests are simple. Even if you have no clue what is going on he will give you partial credit for attempting the problem. They are simple essay tests.
A great teacher. He makes things really clear. I hated chemistry in high school but I actually like it now. That says alot. I'm also taking him foe 1018 next semester. He does expect you to do your homework and keep up with everything, but if you do that, you can easily get an A.
everything on here is a lie. i read this before attending and he is soooo hard.he does not curve or drop low grades. take him if u truely know what u are doing
one of my all time favorite teachers. he's very funny and helpful...draws pictures and tells stories. you can easily get an A if you do mastering chemistry and study . he gives great exam reviews. i wish i could take him home sometimes.
He is very nice and helping instructor.I love his style of teaching. In very first class i thought he is very strict but don't go on his appearance He is very nice and sweet.Always there to help you if you are willing to learn.Do take Gallagher.............it will be a great fun.One of my most memorable and interesting instructor is Dr.Gallagher.
Great teacher!!! Grades hard but fair and makes sure you know the material. His style is different but once you're used to it he's great!!!
Quizes everyday and usually off topic. Test reviews given are hardness level 1 whereas test hardness level is a 5.
If you really waana learn Chemistry do take Gallagher.....He is very nice and knows what he is teaching....Very helping if you are willing to learn and do hard work.Gallagher is one of the best teachers i ever had in my life.Dr,Gallagher is the best!!!
Tests you on his methods of fixing global warming. He would rather teach about himself than chemistry
He explains everything in very simple terms anyone can understand, and works you up to the bigger concepts, so if you pay attention religously, you will do fine, but if you zone out you will be lost. If you give 100% you will come out really knowing your stuff. He comes off as abrasive at first, but he is actually very nice and helpful.
I absolutely loved his class. I took him for 1017 and changed my schedule around to take him for 1018. He is very clear and explains things really well. Also, he doesn't want to trick students for tests - he gives a review and that's pretty I've learned alot, and since I'm planning on taking the mcat I'm glad he pushed us to know our stuff.
Forensic Science. The material was very simple, so getting a good grade in this class is no problem. The tests could be easier, but they aren't bad. Even though it was a large lecture class I was interested, and I found him to be a very interesting and funny professor that knows a lot about the subject. Take this class, it is offered in Spring.
Awesome teacher & cool personality. If you are willing to study and put hard work, do take at least one course with him.He is always there to help you.You will definitely love him!!!
I've had him for gen. chem and forensic chem. Really laid back and funny. May wander off topic a lot but only tests on what is taught. Very helpful if you have questions. Easy A if you put forth the effort.
Simply awesome !! No explanation required.....
CoooOOOooolllllllll.............Awesome Awesome Awesome...............!!!!1
One of the best teachers at UNO! He's funny, cute, and veryyy helpful! He's traveled the worlds, and likes the tell random stories which makes class fly by! If you put forth the effort and do your work, you will definitely enjoy this class! I just wish he taught more classes than just gen chem and forensics!
he doesn't care about his students, he does not remember what he taught last class, can not understand what he write on the board. His lectures are a mess, they do not help u understand more if u read chapters before class
I really liked him... If you keep up with his lectures and the homework he is not hard. He's a pretty nice guy too... and has a good sense of humor.
Quite Frankly one of the best teachers I have ever had... Made class a joy and provided much knowledge. He is not easy, but chemistry is not an easy subject, he is fair.
Whatever he teaches is on his test. There are no surprises very helpful if you have a question. I thought i would never understand chemistry until i took him a great teacher
Awesome guy.
He is a good teacher. The class is not easy but you will learn a lot once you leave. All you have to do is the study guides and you will be fine.
Best teacher I had this semester. He makes the class enjoyable..TAKE HIM.
He's very funny
I enjoy going to his lectures. He actually teaches his students unlike other professors. Not only do you want to make sure that you understand the concepts behind his lectures, you need to know how to apply all of it as well
This guy moved too fast for me. I didn't take chem in hs. It's not fair that this professor teaches all the gen chem classes. I need this class but don't want him? That sucks!
He is extremely knowledgeable, funny, nice, and helpful. Chemistry is a subject that requires EFFORT on your part, and he will do his best to guide you if you ask. TAKE HIM!
difficult but well taught. best teacher of my semester
I LOVE HIM SO MUCH!best teacher iv ever had.His lectures were exactly what we needed to know for the test and he told us many interesting stories. he's a very knowledgeable and interesting person and i hated chem before his class.his tests are just like his reviews and he makes chem lectures fun!also he's got an an awesome sense of humor..TAKE HIM!
This course is not easy but no one expects Chemistry to be. Dr. Gallagher is a wonderful teacher, and is always there to answer questions. Do the study guides, mastering chemistry, and attend class and you will PASS! I love the way he teaches though his writing isn't the best, he does teach in a way that makes it easy to comprehend.
This guy is horrible if you have an A in his class it wont be there for long I studied my butt off and did poorly on his test before the final He is very difficult He doesnt test you on the basics general information He acts as though this class is a senior level class HORRIBLE Take Hauck
This class was super hard especially since he expects you to have an already strong chem background..Overall he is a good teacher execpt he would have no enthusiasm for teaching It felt as if we were bothering him...do your hw and you will pass!and never miss class!!he was good looking too and funny
Fair teacher, but really annoying to take. So much homework (Mastering Chemistry). The notes he writes on the board are very sporadic. His study guides are helpful, but they contain A LOT of information.
Dr. Gallagher was truly one the best teachers I've ever taken at the high school and college level. He makes learning fun which with chemistry (let's be honest) is no small feat. He is humorous, engaging, polite, charming, intelligent. I especially liked how he related topics to current world events such as the recent nuclear catastrophe in japan.
I enjoyed the class. The main thing was the mastering chem. the program had bugs in it and some of the stuff on mastering chem we didnt go over. Hes very helpful, understanding, and has a sense of humor. His test are just like his reviews.Overall it was good he grades fairly and going to class is a must.
I desise the skipper. I'm not saying this because I have a low grade. I say this because I think he has a severe deficit in his left brain. He cannot use math, even though the course requires it. This guy will mark correct answers as wrong. The best part is that he doesn't like being corrected. He shouldn't be teaching this course.
This professor is the 2nd best in the whole university. He has a passion for his work and he's good at it too! He doesn't just analyze his mind and then teach what he's been taught. Instead, he analyzes the student's minds and teaches based on what they need most. He has developed a teaching plan above any professor I know. Take his class....
He is an excellent teacher. One of the best teacher's I've ever had. He teaches you everything you need to know about chemistry. His tests are fairly easy if you pay attention in class. I will keep an eye out for him for future chem classes.
Without a doubt a very smart man. However, he is an extremely poor fit for beginning chemistry students. He appeared contemptuous of his class, and disgusted that he had to teach it. He often moved too quickly, and if there was an opportunity for him to make the class more burdensome, he took it (and seemed to enjoy it).
Skip is definitely hard if you don't have a strong Chem background. I only knew the basics of Chem so I studied ALOT, did my Mastering Chemistry every week and made a B in the class. Skip is a great, and now I am more knowledgeable about Chem than I ever thought I would be. If you want to learn take Skip, If you want an easy A find someone else.
Sometimes he doesn't seem like he really wants to be teaching.. His lectures don't seem very organized. However, he knows what he is talking about and he's amusing to listen to. If you pay attention, read the text book, and do your mastering chemistry homework you will do well in his class.
He is tolerable. He pulls statements from thin air and presents them as fact. I check his claims on computer at the time he makes them, because I hate when people teach what they pretend to know. His class is fine, but you'll learn more in Mastering Chemistry. Always check your tests upon return, as he will count off for right answers at times.
I like Prof. Skip Gallagher! He is a Good teacher. He is funny/down to Earth. His test reviews prepare you for the Real test. Mastering Chemistry assignments are a little much though. He makes sure he does several examples so you can understand what he is teaching. If you dont pay attention or study then you don't pass as simple as that.
Extremely intelligent and knows what he is talking about. However, a PHD does not mean one can teach (it's a gift and he doesn't have it). For beginners chemistry you might want to find someone who is willing to explain things because he's not the one. I had some background in chemistry and I thought his class would help, but I am now more confused
Good Ol' Skip. Everyone in the science major knows this guy. Definitely an interesting man/instructor. Goes quick, hard to follow at times, but Chemistry is a class that requires attendance, attention, and a ton of practice. He does stray away from topic at times, but its a welcome and entertaining break. A challenging professor but great regardles
If you are not interested in working hard and taking time to master concepts on your own, DO NOT take his class. If spending 15 minutes of lecture discussing plastic bottles & dive trips sounds like a waste of time, DO NOT take his class. But if you want to learn, work hard, and be entertained in the process: Dr. Gallagher is the man for the job.
Great teacher! Of course you may have to work hard. But, I think you just need to do all homework, pay attention in class, and you'll be fine. He's always eager to help you if you help difficulties
DO NOT TAKE HIM! very arrogant and mean although he does actually teach unlike hauck but the test are extremely difficult
Deffinitely explains better than Hauck. Material is rather easy but you have to pay attention, take notes, and practice. He is easy to approach id you have a question and he will explain until you have a very clear understanding. And he's pretty funny.
Dr. Gallagher is a really good professor. He cares about his students, but you have to put in the effort because his tests ARE HARD (especially the first test). He only gives two tests and a final, so if you bomb the first test YOU'RE SCREWED, just make sure you go to class, take notes and do MC.
Had to put a LOT of work in to this class, but totally worth it. His class is interesting and fun. He's not arrogant or pompous or whatever other people who probably didn't do well and have no people skills said; he's willing to help but you have to ask and work hard.
I took him for both chem 1&2. A fun class but you must do the MC. Write everything down on the board. A lot of his test/bonus questions are very similar to what he do in class. Study guide is basically the test. Do not skip because some days he gives freebies quizzes & points. I had the 1st ed book but rarely used it.
Forensic science was awesome! Gallagher is very knowledgeable on the subject. He helps out the police in his spare time. The content was always interesting. He has a bunch of personal stories he tells but they all relate the what's being thought. His test questions are usually all from the study guide word for word. So if you do them you'll be ok
If you have no chemistry background, Run! Run until you have a better understanding, then and only then, do you want him as a professor. Skip knows what he is teaching, but he can't successfully convey that to chemistry beginners. Oh, and please do the homework and class assignments!
I loved coming to this class. He's a really nice guy. If you have a question just visit his office. I actually found his class pretty easy. Maybe that's why I slacked off so much. You really have to be disciplined to take this class. It's so easy to just not do mastering chemistry. and trust me you need it.
I had a poor chemistry background going into his class, but I still managed to make an A. His lectures are not always clear (they are, however, very entertaining), and I'd recommend sitting in the front, so you can hear and read the board better. Go to class because if you're on the borderline between letter grades, he takes that into account!
I'm a postbac with 160+ hours, and I say he's one of the best professors I've ever had. Engaging, amusing lectures. Goes into great depth. Explains every step. Lot of homework. Good attendance gets you some grace. Be aware: he likes to teach his preferred methods even tho others exist, and you need to answer using his methods if you want credit.
very hard class. He only gave you a week to do a paper and presentation. Was a tough grader with very hard test.
He is tremendously engaging, relating class material to the real world. Attend lecture and you'll get everything you need there to ace the exams- no surprises. He doesn't seem to enjoy retreading ground for a person who wasn't listening or can't apply concepts. Attendance isn't required, but you'll struggle if you skip.
Awesome guy, but extremely tough professor. His test's are super hard and if you are not prepared, you might as well not show up. He know his stuff when it comes to chemistry though. Bright individual
Copy down everything he writes on the board and you'll most likely pass. Expect to have mastering chemistry due every week. Above all, he is a great teacher. He gets off topic a lot but he usually talks about some pretty interesting things.
he is really cool person very interesting class. BUT his test are honetsly the hardest thing ive ever done. i have failed every test and i am an A/B student my whole life went to every class understood the info but his tests are very confusing. test are not multuple choise you have to know and wright down the answer
His class was one that required studying every night. to really do well in his class you have to go to recitation and understand the concept. dont wait until the night before the exam to try and learn everything. there was mastering chemistry due every week as well. other than that if you study and do well on the in class quizzes you can make an A.
He is pretty rough, if you pay attention you can pass. YOU HAVE TO ATTEND .
I was very worried before enrolling in Dr. Gallaghers class. I've heard all about the essay questions on his test and it comes directly from his lectures. If you attend class and study you should do well. He also gives an outline for every test which are helpful. I wish he taught organic as I would definitely take his class again.
Took this class for fun. Expect to go to class and take good notes. He will give you a couple of slide shows. He literally gives you about 100-200 questions to answer to study for the test and ALL of his test questions came from it. There is no textbook. He informs you of the group project at the BEGINING of the semester; you present in April.
Dr. Gallagher is one of the best lecturers I've had at UNO. I recommend recording the lectures just to go over again or in case you space out bc all of the test questions are covered in class. Just went thru each study guide while listening back to parts I wasn't sure about and got over 100 on all his tests.
It was because of 2018 that I switched to Chemistry. Great teaching style. Zero power points. His lectures are easy to follow. For every exam, he gives a study guide with TONS of questions (which he uses for the exam). Do every one! He can be abrasive when you answer incorrectly, but he is just very opinionated. Intelligent jerk. Would take again.
AMAZING prof! Very helpful, bt dont ask dumb questions. Random extra cred given 4 attendance. Expect HW due weekly on mastering chem- do it! Take good notes© his stuff from board. Expect exam short answers from docu's on MC . I hadnt taken a chem in 12yrs (scary) but made an A. U can do it, take adv of tutor center! I love chem thanks to him.
Gallagher is not a good professor. He shows very little concern for student success and is often condensending. I recommend steering clear of him.
I hated chemistry until I took him. He is great at teaching the material, very knowledgable. If you like professors who lecture, take him. No powerpoint reading here. Do your homework, show up for the quizzes (he tells you when they are) take notes on everything he talks about (I mean everything) and do the old tests.
Skip is not a bad chem professor. He isn't hard if you do the work and study. He gives out study guides for every exams, and if you ask to see an old exam, he will post it on mastering chemistry. mastering chemistry is important so make sure you do them on time!!!! they're a huge portion of your grade and they're due every week
He gives lots of homework on MC and his lectures are very clear. Took him for both 1017&1018 and got A's in both. Very generous and if you need help, he'll be more than happy to help you during his office hours. Once before an exam, I was in his office during hours and we spent like 2-3 hours on his study guide! haha
A great professor you should not even consider whether you should take him or not. He will not only will teach you a depth about chemistry but how the world works within the idea on science. Very clear lectures and you will know what to study. Great man, he really wants you to learn and be educated.
He knows so much about Chemistry but I found him to be too hard for me. He is very lecture based and doesn't show many examples. His tests are straightforward if you know the material.
He is amazing, possibly my favorite prof. He's very straight fwd with his teaching &cares that you understand it. He'll post old exams, if you ask. Gives extra cred. Def do MC bc it could bring your grade up or down. If he spends time on a particular discussion, &draws it on the board- bank on it being a short answer on exam. Highly recommend him.
It took him nearly two months to return our graded lab reports. This gave us no chance to improve our reports. He would also send us our lab instructions the morning before lab, so we would spend nearly 6 hours a week in lab not knowing what to do. His treatment towards students was also very rude & unprofessional. Do not take him for this class.
Hes interesting there is 2 exams and a final
Dr. Gallagher is a phenomenal man. He was very thorough in explaining the content during lectures, and he does everything he can to help his students succeed. Truly an Incredible professor
Dr. Gallagher is by far the best teacher to have as a chemistry professor. Very through with his explanations and uses real life scenarios or examples so students can understand. Also helps the student when they do not thoroughly understand the material. Only 3 exams are taken but recitation and MC really determines your grade.
One of the best chemistry professors. Straight forward during his lectures. Gives study guide and sample exams before every test. Don't miss a class, take notes and study the study guides and you'll do well. Had him for Chem II. Also, do the Mastering Chem, helps a lot!
He asserts many things which are at best mistaken and at worst untrue. He might be a decent chem professor (although he doesn't seem to know how to take a square root), but his knowledge of things outside his profession is questionable. He seems to like to try to impress freshmen with false info about other fields. Avoid if you prefer facts.
great teacher, as long as you take notes you should do fine. Before every test he posts an old blank test from previous years. As long as you do that test you'll pass because they are almost identical. One of my favorite teachers ive ever had. Funny too
just no
Grade depends on assignments that he doesn't teach on in class.
Amazing teacher but you have to work for the grade as long as you attend class and do ALL the reviews he posts you should be good ! And also go to the chemistry tutoring center and try to study at least a couple of days before the test so you can go to his office hours and ask questions if you need to because he will break things down if you needed
Online HW's are like 70+ Q's w/ multiple parts. His tests are very similar to the previous tests he gives you to prepare. If you are really struggling GO TALK TO HIM. He's so incredibly nice & wants to help his students who ACTUALLY care about learning & doing well. This is NOT a blow off class. Harder for me than my A&P class was. DONT miss class.
Great professor, wish he taught all my classes. Always takes his time to help me out if I have a question
sooo.. he is funny and teaches very well. Please do the study guide and take notes. the study guide is exactly how the test will be. He only has 3 tests so if you fail 1 test, its hard to bring it up. FOCUS in his class and you'll be good. he is very straight forward. Has great life stories, BUT IM TELLING YOU DO THE STUDY GUIDES.
You can only miss 5 classes before you start losing 5% off your grade per miss. 3 tests, 100 pts first two 150 third. Very interesting lectures and easy assignments. The test questions come straight from the assignments. He is very understanding and kind, so reach out if you are having trouble! Great class!
He comes off as nihilistic and is very political. I was expecting to work hard for an A, but after COVID hit, the course fell apart. He was so concerned about cheating that he never gave enough time to take the tests. Got a B because of his poorly structured attempt at teaching online. I'd take Hauck over this guy any day. Awful experience, 0/5.
Homework takes a long time, but it's a big part of your grade so make sure to get it done. He does post study guides and blank old exams, so if you can get through those then you should be fine on his exams. Had trouble focusing in class sometimes, but YouTube helped a lot. Also, I never opened the textbook once.
Maybe he's better at teaching real chemistry, but I did not like this class. I got through it, but he assigned two large group research papers that we were very underprepared for and couldn't find any credible sources on the topic. You can get through this class, but I wouldn't recommend taking it.
Not sure what he's like for an in-person class but he made our online learning experience pretty awesome. He explains things really clearly and he makes awesome, original power points with voiceover explanations + helpful youtube videos. Homework assignments take some time but they make sure you really go over the material and learn it. 10/10
DO NOT TAKE DURING COVID. He does not care about us AT ALL. Gives 40 minutes to take a 36 question test (some questions with multiple parts) that are NOT multiple choice. The first test I didn't even finish half (we were given 50 minutes) and cried hysterically after then he told us that was TOO MUCH TIME. Wish I could write more about him. BEWARE!
He never holds class at the appointed time because he (told our class) he doesn't like how many students are in his class. He will give you almost 200 questions to study for a 30-40 question exam that he makes last minute. Most likely he won't give any bonus points ever. Responds to emails in a good time but doesn't always have clear answers. AVOID
CHEM 1018. The most inconsiderate teacher Ive ever taken. Tests in these classes are HORRIBLE,gives 35 mins and I promise you youll only finish half of it and he will give you the minimal amount of points. Mastering Chemistry takes 10 years to complete. Doesnt help at all. Wish I could give a negative rating. Sets you up for failure.
To say the least, unless you're a Chemistry major, skip him. This guy thinks the only thing you got in life is his course. The homework assignments are endless, 2 hr 2prt exams: multiple choice & caculations. Every zoom meeting you'll hear threats from him, he is so proud to tell everybody that his courses have 55% drop rate. Save yourself, RUUUUN!
While many people say Dr. Gallagher is terrible, hes genuinely a good professor. If youre here to learn, hes definitely the professor to take. He does have his occasional pop quizzes but I learned so much from his class and it has helped in other classes. You have to work for your grade, but its worth it - sincerely a non chem major
OMG THE AMOUNT OF HW IN THIS CLASS... i be having to teach myself for a good 4 hrs to just get thru the hw. tbh i would take him again ONLY because he is a lenient grader on his exams (he gives partial credit) and bc his exams are EASY. he has 2 exams and if you make an A on both your final isn't cumulative and would only be tested on new topics.
If you're good at chemistry, I'd say take him. His posted video lectures are better than class lectures. His tests aren't hard, you just have to memorize a lot. He can be intimadating in the beginning but dont let him fool you. He only helps students that are doing well in his class. Told me in quote "You should drop the class" before MIDTERM!!!
He was really straight forward with what you needed to do in order to succeed in his class. Although there is a lot of work to do it isnt anything that wont help you in your exams. Id say attendance is important because he goes over problems that are similar if not exactly whats on the exams.
Took Dr. Gallagher for CHEM 1017 and 1018 and I would do it again. His lectures are entertaining and engaging. Always shows 2 previous exams and an entire study guide review prior to exams. Study the 2 old exams and study guide hard and you will get an A. I never saw chemistry before his classes and got straight A's. If I could do it, you can.
For chem1017, you only have 2 exams before the final. So make sure you pass both of them. I failed the first one, so I had a D in the class for a while. Then I passed the second one with an A so now I have a B. He gives study guides. Just do the homework and study. You should pass the class. He is also an easy grader.
Decent lecturer, but gets off on tangents. He seems to keep focus better in a 50min class than a 90min one. Homework assignments take 2-4 hrs but are not too difficult. Good review materials for tests, if you do all the work you can do well. He sometimes seems overworked, but wants to help students who show up and try.
Dr. Gallagher is probably the best General Chemistry professor that you can take. His lecture is very good as he uses a lot of real-world examples to make it easier to understand the concepts, and he can keep you so engaged that the 1:30 spent in his class feels like it has only been 30 min. He also care a lot about his students.
He literally brags about his drop rate
Awful Proffesor -Asked For help and only help received is "drop course" -Says he cares but then gives no help to those who need it - If your someone who struggles at chem run the opposite direction of this class
I thought he was great! Please take his 1100 course as an elective! He teaches by talking, telling stories, and sharing his experiences. Do make sure to go to class, as you learn more from what he verbally teaches rather than his power points. You do have to pay attention. His exams mostly consist of things said not read. But hes a cool dude swear!
I wouldn't take him again for Chem (personally i'm not good at chem). You HAVE to be willing to learn and ASK questions. Would definitely recommend sitting in the front of the class because his handwriting sucks. he gives out 1h-3h homework on purpose...
First of all, if you finished your Chem I from other prof other than Dr.Gallagher, be prepare for the abrupt transition of test material. In short, it's hard. A true college class where 1 hour in class will no where close prepare you for the test (2 to 3h homework). No answer key for study guide, talk to your TA, or smart one in class for it.
Dr. Gallagher was a good professor for chem. He knows what he's doing, just go over the lectures alone. He seems harsh at first and he assigns A LOT of homework, but eventually he settles down. He gave us two tests with a final which was either cumulative or if you received A's on your past exams it was the third exam as your final exam.
Great professor. Great stories.
Overall he was a good teacher, his handwriting is hard to read sometimes and we only 4 test and no homework so you have to really study hard or else the first to exam make or break you, he does tend to curve your grade up if you attend class after an exam but only if you came that day
