Sky is such an awesome teacher. This was her year at Grossmont and I hope she stays for many more. If you read the book and study your notes, you'll have no problem. The class is incredibly interesting and Sky offers all the help you need!

Very engaging class. The material really makes you think & is rarely boring. No homework except for one research paper & studying in-class notes for midterms. Start work on research paper as early as possible & ask her opinion on it before due date, she'll tell you what you need to work on or clarify. Speak up or Ask questions; she'll take notice!

Most awesome teacher ever. Very well organized. You can study mostly from the lectures, & she'll tell you which sections to read in the book, when she runs out of lecture time. The paper is short but HARD! She is really great at bringing this subject alive, and getting students to participate in fun ways. You really live the subject in this class!

I RECOMMEND TAKING A CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR!! I took this class online during the summer. She is nice, friendly, helpful, and her expectations are clear. She provides helpful study guides and Power Points. Completing the study guides are not mandatory, but my grades on the tests were significantly higher when I completed them. TAKE THIS CLASS!

So she is still stuck in ancient times before calculators. I reccommend if you can, to take it in the math department where they believe in calculators. The class is manageable but its SO much easier with a damn calculator! W/out having to worry about all the math you can focus more on the concept. Her multiple choice q's are HARD!

First of all you ARE ALLOWED to use calculators... I don't know what the other person was talking about.This class is very difficult due to the concepts and the theories. It would have been cool to have open notes exam just cuz theres so much info I'll never use again!She is really sweet.The multiple choice is really difficult. Shes helpful though.

Granted I took this class online during Intersession, this class was easy. It was a little stressful simply because I took it in only three weeks and 6 chapters are due each week. Sky is extremely helpful in answering questions about the class, test, etc. I would recommend this teacher and this class!

The reviewer below who mentioned the thing about calculators is correct... she has you calculate the tests by hand which is very tedious and seems like a waste of time when your calculator can do it for you. However learning to do it this way really drills the concepts in your head and allows you to check your work. She is a terrific teacher.

She does let u use calculators but there are programs on the TI's that she doesn't show you, they crunch the numbers for you & its 100x easier plus you're less likely to make stupid mistakes. I got an A but I feel like its ONLY b/c I had prior knowledge in the subject. I had to go to a tutor before the t-tests test b/c it was so difficult & tedious

Really good teacher. She has a way of making lectures very interesting and fun. The only advise i have is that you really pay attention . all her test questions come from material she covers in class. i never bought the book and still passed with an A.

Took this introductory class online. Prof. Chafin is very quick to answer emails, or questions posted on the board. Being an online course, you definitely need the book, but she also posts powerpoint slides that are helpful. Study guides are very thorough. I highly recommend her; with an online class, you'll need a teacher who checks email often.

Chafin is SWEET! Her class is really interesting and she is very smart. Read the book and study the vocab in there, ya gotta.

Took online class, it was awesome. She posts extra links to relevant articles besides the book to keep students involved. Tests are not hard to take so long as you read the text and take notes. Responds lightning fast to emails. Highly recommend this prof!

Im taking professor Chafin-Aren right now for social psychology and she seems to be a really good teacher. She is clear in what material is gone through and always answers everyones questions. I dont have the book, so the class is a bit tough but she covers everything in class, so thats not half bad.

I took her class online, coz of the busy schedule. Take this class if you're a busy person. Requires students to login only once a week. 1 Exam per chapter and a discussion. YOu don't need to read the textbook to answer Discussion questions. Exams are not really hard. If you read textbook, you'll be fine,Questions are directly from textbook.

Wonderful, wonderful teacher!This was my very first online course and I've actually taken this class on campus and got a D...online I got a B and was only a few points from an A! HIGHLY recommend taking this class!!

Sky is so cute. She is so smart and funny and her teaching style is slow and fully informative. If you have a question, she'll answer it without making you feel dumb. It was my first statistics class and though the content was fairly difficult she was amazing. I definitely recommend her :) Also, you dont need to buy the $200 book! Super plus!

I absolutely love Sky! I used to have math anxiety but since I am a psych major, I had to take stats. I ended up getting an A and really understood the material. Almost all my friends in the class got Bs. So if you show up, do the homework and do decently on tests, it's definitely possible to pass such a hard subject.

Great teacher. I took PSY120 online. It consisted of 1 weekly discussion topic, 1 weekly exam & 1 final. Read her notes, print them, read the chapter & take the exam. Its open book & open note, obviously. For the final, print the prev exams. If you ever encounter a problem with BB, she's very understandable & simply resets your test for you.

I took this class online and overall had a very good experience. BB malfunctioned once- during my final exam, of all things!- and the professor was helpful and understanding. Her online class was very structured and easy to follow along, which was great. I did every chapter review before taking the exams and I ended up with an A in the end.

Just finished my stats class with Sky. She was the best teacher I've had. I hate Stats. My first attempt at it, I got a D. She is extremely clear and helpful. I got an A in the class. You just need to come to class and she helps with the rest. I never felt confused in her class. She's amazing and very sweet! Wish she taught all of my classes!

I took Sociology 215 Behavioral Statistics with Sky. She teaches step by step how to do something. One of the best professors at Grossmont. GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS. KNOW WHERE HER OFFICR IS! Doing the homework is extremely helpful practice. Five exams all worth different percentages. Final exam grade replaces lowest exam. You don't need the book.

She is very organized. The quizzes can be VERY tricky. Reading the chapters is a must before taking the quiz. The final is cumulative, and your past quizzes are reviewable but only gives the answer u chose, and whether u got it right or wrong. Pretty tough class, discussions are easy.

Sky is the best, I'd never taken a stats class before but everything was so understandable, she's so helpful, nice and funny! Seriously I love her. Also you don't need to buy a textbook so that's a huge plus! Taker her, you won't regret it!!

Sky is the best professor I've ever had. She really cares about her students and was so clear. She taught in a way that made me want to take more stats classes. I honestly fell in love with the subject. She uses examples that are actually interested and she was just overall such an amazing teacher. I wish I could take another class with her!

Sky is so intelligent and organized. She is also very helpful and will answer any question very concisely. Math has never been interesting to me but this class really makes me want to learn more about statistics. It is definitely challenging but as long as you don't slack off, show up to class, and study a few hours per week, you will be fine.

Great teacher, probably the best I've had grossmont. Unlike many teachers, Sky knew we didn't need the book so she told us we did not have to buy it. Attend class and listen to what she has to say and you will receive an appropriate grade. Not as easy class, but she makes it less confusing.

Sky has been my favorite teacher hands down. I was scared to take this class but it ended up being my favorite class because of her. Not only does she teach stats from a psychology view point, but she is so very helpful. She really cares about her students and takes time to get to know you and your name. Sky is fabulous, take her class, do the HW.

I would recommend Sky Chafin-Aren. She answers questions within about 24 hours. The workload was not too much. In order to do well in the class, you need to work hard, but it is not unreasonable at all. She provides you with all the resources you need to do well.

Dr. Chafin is one of the clearest and easiest to understand instructors on campus! While the class is challenging, it was made infinitely easier by the way she lectured it. No book required; take good notes! Word to the wise, though: if her TA teaches a segment, you may as well walk out and go straight to the tutoring center. It's painful.

Sky is an extremely nice woman, and she is a pretty good professor. I really did like this class, but I had a major issue with how ridiculously HARD the tests were. I studied hard for each test and barely got B's and C's on them. Thank god she offers up to 30 points extra credit. Anyways, aside from the brutal tests, Sky is a great instructor.

Sky is an awesome professor! Stats intimidated me because I've never been good at math, but her teaching style is very clear and she is willing to help. She knows how to keep the class interesting. The multiple choice part of the exams can be difficult though.

Excellent instructor; actually cares about what she teaches. 120 (intro to psych) and 215 (stats for behavioral sciences) classes are engaging and fun. Not an "easy A", but also not a pile of busywork. Assignments are relevant and useful, often taking information from current events to illustrate the point. Provides much of the book free.

FAV TEACHER AT GROSSMONT. Cares about students. Super sweet & funny. There is hw. 3 tests & the final. Never makes you feel dumb like some professors do. I hate math & it hates me too but she teaches in a way that is easier to understand. Ive never learned so much in a class before!Wish she taught all my classes! Im gonna miss her so much!! wahhh

Sky is one of the best professors at Grossmont College IMO. She really is thorough in her lectures to make sure you understand the material!!! The lectures are intense though so DONT SKIP CLASS. And the homework points add up.. so just do it! If you need help, there are tutors (SERIOUSLY THEY EXIST.. GO TO THEM.) & Sky also has office hours!

This class is an easy A. Her class is very easy to follow. 3 chapters are required to be read every week. For each chapter, you do 2 discussion boards. The chapters do not take long to read, and if you pay attention, you should get a 100% on every test. She uses a lot of the same questions in previous exams for her final, so beware of that early on

I took this class while being enrolled in 2 other summer classes. The course is very well planned out by this professor. Each week you read 3 chapters and had to write on a discussion board for each chapter. And at the end of the course you took the final. If you read and took notes and highlighted then will pass. Open book tests. No extra credit.

You can tell that Sky loves the subject matter. She wants to help her students to understand the material and succeed. Her tests are tough but pragmatic and she gives a fair amount of extra credit. She is funny and charming and will make your day. If you want to learn and have a good time doing it, you want Psych-138 and you definitely want Sky

Probably my favorite professor I've had at Grossmont. Her lectures are interesting and very informal. Its not an easy but if you put in a little studying you should get at least a B. Several extra credit opportunities throughout the course. She is always positive and smiling. All in all, I'd definitely recommend taking this course.

Sky is a very professional teacher, but good nonetheless. Only had 4 exams, the final, and one paper throughout the entire semester, so homework is practically nonexistent. She gives some EC opportunities. Teaches psych well, would recommend.

I love Sky!! The way she taught was like a discussion: she would ask questions, discuss it as a class, then we would write the corresponding lecture notes. This method really helped me remember the material while studying later on. You do need to take the tests seriously because they make up the majority of your grade although she does offer EC.

Sky is one of the best professors Ive had at grossmont! She makes the material fun to learn and chooses interesting studies to use as examples. Her class is based heavily on exams with one paper and some extra credit opportunities. Easily would take again.

Sky truly cares about her students and she gives plenty extra credit opportunities! I encourage students to visit her during her office hours. This class taught me valuable lessons. The textbook is optional, I know some of my classmates enjoyed the reading. I read here and there but if you attend all lectures, you will do fine! Hard to fail!

Stats is a must with Sky! She makes this class enjoyable! I was terrified to take stats but I attended all lectures/lab meetings, did the work, studied and passed with an A. She incorporates interesting and real studies. She wants students to understand the conceptual meaning before doing computational work which worked for me. I love stats now!

Although I took this class online, I did really enjoy being in Dr. Chafin's class and have heard only amazing things about her in classes on campus. You do need to read the textbook in order to do well in the class but it wasn't a time-intensive class for me. 10/10 would take a class with her again.

Dr. Sky is s o much fun! Her class is lecture/test based, so no real homework, maybe reading a few pages once a month. She's crystal clear, super intelligent, and keeps her lectures engaging and interesting. However, don't get distracted during her lectures, as her tests are tough if you don't study. She gives EC opportunities though, so it's fair.

Sky is really awesome! I loved her teaching method for statistics, which was by example on the white-board. She made statistics super-interesting for me and I loved taking her class! It's a difficult subject, but she goes over the material very thoroughly and engages the class a lot. She is more than willing to help you pass.

This professor is great, the class was not difficult. Though it was lecture heavy all the lectures were interesting and easy to understand. She gives options for extra credit and our grade was based on our exams, the final, an essay, and any extra credit we did.

Sky is a great teacher! She's encouraging, open to dialogue and discussions within the class, and very clear with her instruction. The way she teaches actually makes sense to me and helps me remember it for the tests and weekly homework assignments, and everything feels intentional without busywork. She's fun, and I'd recommend her to anyone.

I thought professor Chafin was great. It was an online 8 week course and I really did enjoy the material and its obvious she cares about her teaching, although I wouldnt say shes the most understanding teacher Ive had. I did enjoy her class and was able to pass with an A

This is one of the easiest classes I had ever taken. I am glad I took it with professor Sky. She is the nicest and most caring teacher you could find. She has a Ph.D. so she is very smart. You have 1 discussion a week, a quiz, and questions you have to answer from ThinkPad. She is very understanding and patient. She gives you feedback on your work.

Prof Sky is one of the best professors I have ever had. She's very caring, respectful, and very open to hearing your voice, and opinion. I had a fun time in this course, and she just made the course way better. I overall can't express how much I recommend this professor to everyone.

One of the best professors at Grossmont. I was so afraid of taking behavioral stats because I literally suck in anything math related especially word problems. She was encouraging and patient. If I had questions she always made herself available to help me understand the subject matter. I want to go into clinical counseling so I needed this class!

This professor was great because of how organized she was on canvas. Most of the work will be done on another website which you do have to pay for, but the test and discussions are on canvas! All of it was easy and you learn so much about psychology!

Attend class, don skip or slack off cause it will be very hard to catch up. Overall though she was a very enjoyable teacher. She's funny and entertaining so class isn't boring. Make sure you study for the tests, not a class that you can learn in class and ace the test. Was my first math class in college and I loved this class. Definitely suggest!

Sky is an amazing down-to-earth person and makes long lectures bearable. Stats is not easy by all means, but as long as you pay attention, attend all the lectures, and be engaged, you'll pass. It is not an easy A class and there is lots of dedication need for studying in order to pass the class as well.

Took her statistics class and although I'm awful at math, she explained things very clearly in a way that made difficult concepts much easier to understand. Some extra credit is built into the tests as well which is nice. I would definitely recommend her for statistics!

I loved this psychology class. Everything is due on Sundays and you do the same kind of assignments each week. No required zoom but she does offer office hours. I would take this professor again. Easy A if you submit every assignment on time.

You don't get any textbooks and so everything you learn is from lectures. I would recommend taking notes because looking online for her slides won't help too much. You could miss a day or two and be fine but if you're not someone who can study yourself and research yourself, I would recommend attending.

she's a great teacher, nothing was ever hard so far except for her non experimental paper and a bit strict with testing as she doesn't allow open notes but she does drop 1 of your lowest exam and its pretty great so you can actually learn and understand the material. overall pretty cool and caring teacher. i would love to have her again

(In-person Spring 2025 full semester) This class was very easy to follow through. Show up for every lecture, complete all the homework, and do the review packets for Exams. I also recommend printing out the lecture notes instead of handwriting notes. Even though this is a Psych class, it has a lot of math involved (specifically statistics).

I loooved her she's super patient and so kind I had some mental health issues and fell behind on assignments and was ready to drop the class because I knew I wasn't going to be able to catch up but I explained my situation with her and she was willing to work with me at my speed I highly recommend dont be afraid to reach out.

Took this professor for a hybrid course, LOTS of work be prepared. Must attend class and watch all videos or you'll fall behind. She does regular check-ins, is very responsive to emails, and tries to accommodate students for extra support. Clear, organized, and genuinely cares about your success. I'd choose her again just not the class lol

Sky is by far the best professor / teacher I've had throughout all of my schooling. She truly cares about her students and gives so many opportunities for help or if you have questions. She's super easy to reach out to and get a thoughtful email back. There is homework each week but it's graded off completion and she will go over it in class.

Great professor, very straightforward lectures, and valuable content for anybody regardless of major. Lowest test grade gets dropped. Professor is very personable and helpful, answers questions during lecture. Just show up to lecture, take notes and you'll likely get an A, and learn some cool things.
