Class is only once a week, but professor provides an additional online lecture to watch before in-class lecture. Exams are not very difficult and they are open note. The syllabus also includes homework, online quizzes, and in-person quizzes that help bump your grade. She also responds fairly quick to emails.
This professor is such a sweet heart. She is a doctoral student right now. She is so well respected. Most of the class were these reading assignments you could do at your own pace. She is very laid back and bubbly. Very good sense of humor and relatable. She made the material very understandable and I got a lot out of the class.
She seems like a great person, but the amount of work is amazing. Weekly 2 hour long lectures, a chapter or two of reading, inquizitive, packback post and replies, and a quiz for homework. That on top of the once a week in person meeting times.
This professor is not very approachable, she always seems to have an attitude when answering questions. Talks way too slow and wants to do too much in class to the point where we have to watch 2 hours worth of online lectures every week. We rarely get to finish a chapter so we have to constant make up for the fact she can't use class time right
She is one of the BEST professors I’ve ever had. There is weekly quizzes and inquisitive which are super easy. Her exams are open note and straight to the point with no trick questions. I’ve never gotten an A in any of my BIO classes so this is saying a lot! There are online lectures but you can watch them and eat a snack not a big deal.
I loved Prof Sneha, she is funny but her online lecture videos can be long. She lets you use notes on exams so make sure you have readable notes. She uses inquizitive and weekly quizzes but if you have good notes its an easy A.
Prof Vissa is awesome! 3 tests including the final which are all OPEN NOTE! There are weekly worksheets that she gives you the answers to, an inqusitive, and a packback post each week. Really easy A. But her ways of teaching really work. I can honestly say this is the most I have ever learned in a class before and she made microbiology easy!
Expect to watch 1.5+ hours of lectures online before going to class. Weekly assignments are easy and tests are open note however classes are often boring and it's a lot of watching online videos. Easy class but I don't think I got much out of it
LOVED Professor Vissa's class! I was always very excited to go. She is a great lecturer and really cares about the material. Quite a few assignments but many things get dropped at the end of the semester. Lots of extra credit opportunities.
Professor Vissa is awesome! 3 exams including the final and are all open note. I got a good grade because I write down everything she says to better benefit me for the open note exams. InQuizitives (part of the textbook) and shorts quizzes weekly, but everything makes sense with the lectures. I would take her for other classes if I could!
She needs to learn how to use lecture time, expecting students to make up for what you can't cover in class. Announcements can take up a huge chunk of time along with the discussions since it is a huge class. Content is easy but make sure to have good notes for the exams. If the she would be more efficient I wouldve enjoyed class more.
I thought this class was fairly easy. All her exams are open notes and if you take good notes from the powerpoints/lectures, you'll get A's on every exam. She does lecture during class and also has videos of lectures for you to watch outside of class. Loved learning about the material and her powerpoints were in depth and interesting!
Great class and amazing professor. Weekly video lectures, quizzes, Inquizitives, and PackBack assignments. Open note exams that are only worth 50 points each (including final). Take good notes, attend lectures, and do the assignments and you will get an easy A.
She explains things so well that I barely had to study (and her exams are open-note, with reasonable guidelines), and I ended up completing the class with 100%. Just listen in class and do the weekly assignments on time and you'll definitely pass this class. Lectures are very interesting and Dr. Vissa is one of the best professors I've ever had.
I already have my B.S and out of all the STEM classes I've had to take, she is probably the worst lecturer I've had. Her class is straightforward and an easy A, but you'll have to endure 20 minutes of announcements every class, listening to her political leanings, and only getting halfway through the powerpoints because her pacing is so slow.
Professor Vissa is okay overall. But the homework load is heavy! One discussion post, two responses, inquizitive, a 10-question quiz, and a 1.5 hour online lecture every week of class! There are only 3 exams (including the final), and they're all open-note. However, professor Vissa can be condescending and rude when you ask a question.
Only meets once a week but you have an online lecture too. Homework is time consuming with a quiz, a discussion post, and inquizitive due every week. Uses worksheets only given out during class as attendance. There's a lot of assignments but a lot of things are dropped at the end of the semester. She wastes time on announcements + goes off topic.
Professor Vissa is ok, just kinda weird. She takes up a lot of lecture time by giving announcements that should only take 5 minutes or less. Because of this we end up having to watch long online lectures in addition to the 3+ hours of homework every week for this class only. However, all tests are open-note and super easy. I got a 99% in the class.
Be prepared to get treated like a kindergartener. She would lose it if we accidentally talked over her for like 0.3 seconds. There was one day where she actually threatened to lock us in the lecture hall and keep us late for "wasting time" when she's the one that takes centuries to read one slide. At least the exams were open note.
This was an awesome class and very easy, there is just a lot of time-consuming work. I had the class once a week which is what I recommend, take on a Wednesday if possible. All exams are open note and all lecture PowerPoint are posted for you to take notes off of. Easy class to take to get a good easy grade.
She takes a third of class time in order to do announcements that could be done in seconds. She talks down to everyone, she spent 20 minutes explaining how to do basic algebra acting like we were a lecture hall of chimps who dont know about X. She stresses attendance, then calls off class to go snowboarding. Rude and makes me want to leave college
While the class itself is pretty easy after everything is dropped, Dr Vissa is incredibly rude and disrespectful to students. She will treat you like a child and throw a fit for leaving a few minutes early or if she goes over time and you try to leave class. Spends nearly 20 minutes each class to go over announcements that take seconds to cover.
This class is very homework heavy which seems daunting at first but you get used to it. The assignments never took me long to finish. She also drops multiple lowest grades during reading week. Her lectures were very interesting and engaging.
Do your work, go to class, take good notes and you'll be fine; material is genuinely really interesting. All exams are open note and fairly easy. She talks kinda slow but she posts the slides on BBLearn so I liked to read ahead if I ever got bored. Homework isn't hard just long so start early. She drops a lot at the end so don't sweat it too much.
If you can TAKE HER! this was literally so easy thanks to her (tbh the lab is harder than the lecture) She has open notes exams and she drops a whole bunch of stuff at the end of the semester, you can go from a C to B just off of that. As long as you do all the assignments you'll be fine! If you have a heavy course load then I recommend taking her
My only negative thing to say about Dr. Vissa is that she spends 20-30 mins each class going over announcements that could've been an email. She explains things really well and drops several assignments at the end, and if you do well on your first three exams, you can skip the final which was so helpful with my heavy workload.
Currently taking this class for the Fall 2023 semester. She lectures to her students like we're 5 years old. I have a huge problem with her handing out a paper with guided notes every time this class meets to EVERY student. I think we can figure out how to take notes for ourselves. Also what a waste of paper lol
Full respect, this class is mind numbingly easy. Open note tests are very awesome, Dr. Vissa is cool, and the material is interesting, but the sheer amount of busy work is ridiculous and made me enjoy the class less and less. I was spending more time working on assignments in this class than my 300 level classes. It's very hard to fail this course.
What a waste of time! If you want to actually learn microbiology, do NOT take Vissa. She wastes the first 20 minutes of every class and expects full attention throughout her lectures. She will play other professor's lectures instead of lecturing herself.
Dr. Vissa is an incredible teacher! She cares a lot about her students success and does great lectures. If you pay attention and do assignments you'll do well. It's amazing how much she does considering how many students are in each section. Mad respect for how she handles herself and the class.
Dr. V was such an inspirational teacher! During pathology she took us on super fun field trips and lab days. I learned so much. She is very caring and nice to students. Her lectures are really interesting. She's a fair grader and makes it clear how to succeed. If you can take her class!
She was great, but her lectures could be kind of boring at times. I'm not sure if it's because 205 is such an easy unit or what, but I was literally trying not to pass out like half the time. Other than that her class is cake, lots of homework but that's expected from a bio course.
This class is so easy because of her teaching style, grade book, and class content. Would be easily doable at home without going to lecture. That's why she does the participation worksheets for all lectures. Only thing negative to say, she can be abrasive one-on-one. But when talking to the whole class she is pleasant and clear with expectations.
Professor Vissa gave us many opportunities to succeed in this class. However, without posted lecture slides and top hat readings, I would not have learned anything. Professor Vissa is very monotone in her lectures and cannot get through 10 slides within an hour and fifteen minutes as she unnecessarily drags on about every topic
I thoroughly enjoyed Dr. Vissa's course. Though her lectures did tend to get tiresome, she made the course extremely easy to excel in with a multitude of extra credit opportunities. Her exams are open note, and a good majority of the class did not have to take the final exam. Overall Dr. Vissa made a usually difficult class into an achievable one.
Dr. Vissa lectures can be very slow and she is very monotone. However, she gives you all the tools necessary to succeed with open note tests, a dropped tests, dropped homework and in class assignments. This class is an easy A if you make the effort to show up and complete your assignments.
As long as you try to understand the content in the lecture, take notes, and complete all homework you should end with an "easy" A. I say easy in the sense that you must apply yourself, but as long as you do you really shouldn't struggle. Packbacks and Tophat Units can be annoying and time-consuming but nothing unmanageable. ALSO DO NOT MISS CLASS!
Dr. V is an awesome prof! Very inspiring, loved her class!
Great lectures! It was a 5 hour class, but Dr. Vissa was able to break the monotony by using worksheets and taking breaks throughout the class period. Field trips were fun and informative.
This was a very easy class. If you do the work, you don't have to worry. I aced every test and didn't study once. After the third exam I didn't need to do anything else and would still get an A.
Is a great teacher, she truly loves what she teaches and is very understanding. She lets you have notes out for tests and posts slides after class. Even if you don't do well on the tests, there are many extra credit assignments that allow you to end with an A. Easy class, and a great teacher.
Dr. Vissa is incredible, I loved her lectures and class. She's super passionate!
Pathology was such a fun class! Dr. Vissa took us on great field trips and we learned a ton about tree diseases.
I really enjoyed Dr. Vissa's lectures, she thoroughly covered the subjects so I felt prepared for the exams. I learned a lot in this class and it was great!
This was a fairly simple class and Professor Vissa made it interesting. She is very passionate about microbiology. Exams are open note so make sure you take good notes. The only bad thing is that the in-class discussions can only be given out in class, so if you miss class you miss out on having extra notes for the exam.
Dr. Vissa is very passionate about microbiology. The class is insanely easy if you take good notes because all the exams are open note. This is very simple to do because everything on the PowerPoint slides is all you need to know for the exam. I barely looked over my notes the day before the each exam and received an A on every one.
Had a great time learning about microbiology in this class. If you attend and takes notes you'll do fine!
Professor Vissa is very straightforward with grading, do the work on time and efficiently and you will be fine. She's quite heavy on attendance and gives an "In-class Activity" everyday to be completed. All of her exams were on material discussed in lecture and open note so write down everything from her lecture slides!
Dr. Vissa is so caring and inspirational. She gives very good lectures and I learned a ton in this class. Make sure you attend class and you'll do good.
Class is organized well, attendance counts so make sure to show up. Exams are based off the PowerPoints and discussions. Dr. Vissa is great!
Loved this class, Dr. Vissa is great!
Great class with clear organization. Just make sure to pay attention in lecture and you'll do fine.
I enjoyed this class, Vissa was chill and made micro interesting. Def the right kind level of challenging but manageable, highly recommend!
She clearly loves teaching microbiology and is very passionate. Her lectures are very engaging. If you attend class it's fairly easy to get an A. Awesome professor.
Great class, Dr. Vissa made it really fun.
Enjoyed the class and found Dr V a good professor. She helped explain complex micro subjects in a fun way.
She was tough but fair grader, with clear expectations and course organization.
Enjoyed this class a lot. If you show up and study some you'll do fine. Helped prep me well for higher level courses!
Fun class! I enjoyed Dr Vs teaching style. She's pretty laid back and sets clear expectations. Highly recommend!
I had a tough semester but this class saved me! Sneha was a great teacher and I really enjoyed her class
Great class and prof! If you show up and do the work it's pretty easy to get an A
Lectures were good and class had clear expectations. Exams largely followed the lecture material, so if you show up you'll do fine.
Sneha is my favorite professor I've had! She's so caring and inspirational. She took time to give me career advice which helped inspire me to pursue microbiology!
I really enjoyed this class, organized super good and easy to succeed if you do the work
Easy enough to succeed, there's extra credit and clear guidance
Great class
Dr Vissa was very kind to me when I had a family emergency. She's super nice and the class is great!
Very good class. I liked the online discussion forms.
I loved the class style and organization. Easy to succeed if you pay attention!
Dr V was great
dr. vissa has a generous drop policy and is communicative with her students. she is a bit bland during lecture, but you can tell how knowledgable about microbio she is. exams are open-note and she drops an exam (including the final). though, I recommend going in person or else you will miss important info (that is not on the slides on canvas).
Dr v made microbiology super interesting and her class was well organized, highly recommend!
Made microbiology interesting with her lectures. There was minimal homework and I enjoyed the teaching style
Going to be so honest, I very much dislike biology, which is very hypocritical. But genuinely, this class was so interesting and so fun. I always enjoyed going to class. There was no stress for the tests and in the class in general. She's awesome.
I had Dr. Vissa for microbiology and absolutely loved her class. She is super knowledgeable, lectures are always interesting and assignments are engaging. Tests are open note so not too hard to do well.
Microbiology with Dr V was super fun, she's very engaging and the tests are open note so not too hard. I learned a lot in this class!
Easiest biology class you can take. Dr. Vissa's class is an easy A as long as you write the notes down for each exam. She is very kind and truly cares about the students and how they learn. She makes it a point to not grade heavily on tests because she knows students all show their knowledge differently. Definitely take her for 205!
Dr. Vissa is very knowledgeable in the topic of microbiology and it is clear she loves what she does. Her BIO205 class is easy to get an A in as long as you take good notes for the open note exams. She really pushes in class participation for various purposes, and her lectures are very consistent. You won't have to worry about this class too much!
As much of an easy class this was, beware of the work load that comes with the ease! Exams are a piece of cake as long as your notes cover general ideas about each unit. Extra credit is handed out all the time and can help your grade. Read the syllabus, more things get dropped then you realize, I was able to skip the entire last unit/final.
Dr.Vissa is very understanding and helpful. She drops a TON of assignments, attendances, and one exam including the final. Overall she makes this class fun but the assignments are kind of long. I highly recommend this professor.
Dr Vissa's class is very easy if you put in the work and prepare your notes. She allows open-notes on all exams (handwritten/printed, but cannot have images from slideshows printed out, they have to be hand-drawn). She gives a lot of extra credit. A lot of stuff is dropped! Just stay on top of the work.
Solid professor, spends a fair amount of class time talking about behavior of a few select students which can be excessive (especially since behavior will never be corrected thoroughly in a lecture class) but manages to teach efficiently and is open note on all tests. Extremely easy if you put in moderate effort.
Never in my life have I had a professor with slides this bad. Tests are open-note. Her class was a complete waste of time.
I really enjoyed this class, the material was great and it was structured well. Highly recommend!
Loved this class! Lectures were so interesting and exams were open note so manageable.
Super chill, highly recommend
Dr v was great. The lectures were very interesting and there were opportunities for extra credit. It was great!
Our class has been behind this whole semester, it constantly feels like a game of catchup. She's a great lecturer, very clear voice and engaging, but she never gets to the content we need. She's very disorganized, jumping all over the place during classtime.
I really enjoy having her as a professor, she's a very good lecture.
This is a great class, easy to pass if you do the work. Dr. V is super nice and helped me understand the materials very well!
Vissa is very invested in her teaching, her lectures are very interesting. She also wrote me a letter of recommendation. Super caring professor!
Super chill class, exams are easy if you just look at lecture PDFs which tell you exactly what you need to know. Easy A
Class is easy A if you show up and study some, one of the better profs in Bio. Shes super helpful during office hours too. She took a lot of time to give me advice about my career choice. Highly recommend!
Really did not like this class; exams were difficult, and no study material was provided. I would never recommend this professor. She is all over the place, and classes are never organized.
I have never rated a professor this poorly, but I really did not like this class, her teaching style.. or actually anything about it. We aren't told how many questions will be on exams and all exams are cumulative. Significantly harder exams compared to the other professors, based on averages and what my friends in other classes told me.
Has more exams than the other BIO 182 professors!!!! We have an exam ONE WEEK before our final... also keep in mind that exams are all cumulative. She makes it difficult for students and doesn't think about the students... it's just exam after exam after exam.
Does not treat this class like a 100 level class, exam averages are very low & much harder than my other 300 level classes. If you care about your grades, I'd recommend taking any other teacher.
Dr. Vissa isn't a bad professor, but sometimes it's hard to sit through a lecture and listen to a monogamous voice. All exams are open note which is amazing though.
Exams in all classes (except micro) are closed note. She holds exams during reading week and then we have a final. Her class is SO test-heavy. Exam before Thanksgiving break, exam during reading week and an exam during finals week... like what?!?!?!?!?!?!?!! She makes it so difficult for students.
Bunch of busy work across multiple platforms, feels like we're always playing catch up in class, pretty monotone but overall easy class with open note tests.
Talks very slowly and class is always a game of catch-up. Assigns a lot of busy work across many different websites... feels like a bad class you would have taken in high school. Haven't learned anything in this class and did not like her teaching style & the way she talks.
Class is pretty easy with 4 exams, one dropped. If you show up it's an easy A. She also gives out extra credit. I like how she explained things
Tests are open note! I have never fallen in love with a subject so quickly. Dr. Vissa did such a good job teaching Microbiology, I want to pursue a career in the field. Every lecture is interesting; she seems so passionate about the subject, and the lectures match perfectly with the tests. This was my favorite class I've taken in collage so far.
this is widally da best professure ive eva had. tests are open note even though you dont really need them because her slides and study guides are straightforward. she makes the lectures interesting that you dont feel the need to fall asleep. even though the post unit discussions and bulk tophat lowk suck, its fine if you just power through them
205 with Dr. Vissa is one of the easiest classes I've taken in my life. Exams are all open note, but it's because Vissa doesn't actually know a lot about microbiology. Will teach chemistry concepts incorrectly and test on it. Doesn't allow any side conversations, even when asking peers for clarification because she doesn't teach well or at all.
SOOO MANY ASSIGNMENTS! Tons of busy work from random websites. Compared to other students in micro lab, I felt so behind... sure exams are open note but they're still difficult and I left the class not learning a single thing... A HUGE waste of time. The only reason she has a 4 is because some exams are open note.. get ready to learn nothing.
Lowkey the best prof in bio. She made microbio super interesting and the exams are open note which you don't even need since the lecture notes are so easy to follow. Def take if you can!
An okay class, lectures weren't very engaging and exams were pretty difficult but the class was not too bad. She dropped the lowest exam grade.
Dr. Vissa is very sweet but I didn't love her class. Her lectures were not super engaging and students wouldn't show up. Material was not my cup of tea but if you like plants & animals, you will enjoy this class.
I really liked this class, she got me excited about biology. The lowest exam is dropped so I didn't even have to take the final. She's a great person to talk to during office hours too
This seminar was so fun and informative. The readings were great and really encouraging for women in STEM. She's very approachable and it was great learning from a younger faculty member for a change.
Pretty good and a fairly easy class, she will waste time talking about disruptive people talking in class, but when she does the same. Kind of talks to us like pre schoolers sometimes but easy A in my opinion.
She's very sweet and helpful. Her class is easy to get a good grade in if you go and study. Definitely recommend
