I really enjoyed this teacher. Math is not my thing and she made the material easy to understand and actually fun. She is a very good teacher. If you do all of the homework you should not only pass all the tests but get an A. She doesn't try to trick you with something that she didn't cover in class or homework. I really enjoyed the class overall.
Prof Topalova is excellent. She make the material easy to understand. Her quizzes and exams are easy they're similar to the homeworks she assigns, so if you do your homework the exams are piece of cake. I like her and I highly recommend her.
She is awesome!!! take her..
Excellent professor. I cannot recommend her enough. She's clear, friendly, and always willing to answer questions. Make sure you study the material and try to learn it, and you should do just fine. She's one of my personal favourite professors, and I think I'm even going to pursue math as a major thanks to her.
She's so professional and helpful, she makes the class fun by throwing jokes every now and then. She give a lots of extra credit. She also drops the lowest grade of your tests, quizzes, homework. In the final she drops about 2 or 3 question wrong. My advice take her
A great beautiful teacher. Hard to understand because of heavy accent. If taking this class do ALL of the MATH LABS attend ALLL CLASSES and be on time. Very strict and doesn't let you leave early even after tests. When taking her class make sure you know some of the material before taking this. Very hard..
Her grading policy: 5% attendance ( if you miss 1 class she will drop 1% up up 5% from your final grade), 10% online homework ( 2-3 sections each week, each section 20-38 questions, be prepared spend at least 2 hours), 10% quizzes , 50% chapter exam ( she will drop out of 4 one lowest grade), 25% final grade. So hard to get an A. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!
I hate math, and I struggled throughout the semester; Prof. Topalova did all she could to help. If she sees that you are trying she will help you, if not then sorry. Overall, I would recommend her.
First, she gives a lot of homework online but if you do it all it will help. She is a good teacher, however at moments she would rushed through lessons. After tests, we had to continue to learn new material. Attendance was mandatory She is a good professor but her accent at times made it hard to understand. if you are already good at math take her
I like the way she teaches, but her tests are very hard. Her final was extremely confusing, sure to fail any student or drop a letter grade. If you want an A, this may not be the class for you. She also assigns a LOT of homework, taking up a lot of precious time. When asking questions, it was extremely confusing and the question was not answered
You just gotta love this woman. She tries all she can to make sure you got everything. She spends time answering question. very helpful, very nice, very polite. And she is a genius. She knows all her material very well. full of knowledge. I HEART HER!take her class and make your life easier.
Prof. Topalova is great! Her english is excellent. The material may not be easy at times, but she puts forth great effort to ensure everyone understands as the material. Also, she takes from her personal time to provide students more assistance in add'l study groups, math lab, and office hours. Math isn't easy for me, but she helps make it easier.
She is a very helpful teacher who is kind, funny, sweet, smart, understanding, and very beautiful :) If you take her class and follow her directions, pay attention, and are serious about learning, you will get an A.
For one thing she is nice but when its comes down to her test they are hard. You must study there is no other way.4 test 10 quizzes 1 test dropped 2 quizzes dropped. Also you must show your work on every single problem to receive full credit.
Loved her. Tests + Quizzes are from HW. She gives a lot of HW and it doesnt count for much % of your grade. HW is the best practice, however. Goes fast, but what she writes on the board is amazingly clear. Whenever I was confused I turned to the notes and understood thereafter. Got A+ in both classes. She is also the best looking professor at NVCC.
She has a great character. She will try to make the class as easy as possible. She might be very quick in her explanations but leaves no room for any student to be left behind. Very supportive. Very quick to reply any homework inquiry send via email. I hope I can sign up for her calculus class next semester. I strongly advise taking her classes.
Snejana Topalova is a wonderful professor who wants to see her students succeed and so makes herself available to help. She assigns homework online which is usually harder than her tests and so once you do them, you're pretty much set for her tests. I don't know who to take for 174 because she doesn't teach it. Definitely take her for 173.
took her for mth 152 and to be honest it wasnt easy. Her notes are sometimes really well thought out, they especially help on the homework. the tests can be pretty difficult to understand. its also hard for her to explain herself and she has an accent(for ppl who care). Wouldnt take her again. didn't use the textbook. extra credit for attendance.
She is an awesome teacher. She cares more about you learning than actually testing you. If you participate in class and do the homework, then you will at least get a B.
Assigns a bunch of homework but its easier than her actual tests. If you understand the concepts and are able to do the homework, you should be able to manage around a B or above. Gives quizzes, drops the lowest one. Calculus is still a hard subject though.
There was a lot of homework, but it prepared you for the tests- if you could do the homework, you'd do well on tests. Prof Topalova was very fair, and gave extra credit on all tests except the final. I ended up getting over 100%! Loved her.
She is really good professor. She tells you her class is hard, but if you do and follow all the instructions and do the homework you will pass. Participate and you will pass.
I absolutely love Prof. Topalova. She is an easy grader, and is good at explaining. She moves really fast so pay attention. She gives a good amount of extra credit opportunities. Must do homework to understand.
She's great!!!!! She takes time to break things down for people that couldn't grasp the material at first.
I took this class hoping to learn something but she made me even more confused more than half of the class didn't understand her. I am really good at math I had to teach myself, going to class was just a wast of time. She is really good on teaching her self. She has power point slides and she will just read them to you.I will note recommend her.
Prof. Stopalova is as professional, clear and fair a professor as can be; she's excellent. Course is difficult for 2 reasons: Precal is not easy to master & she grades you, as she should, on your knowledge of the material. Other: Lectures end on time; some Ex Credit; teaches test stuff in class; available after class and by email. Highly recommend.
I love math and she made me love it more. I again signed up with her for my next math class. She will explain in an easy way and make sure that you got your question answered. She wpould reply to email immediately. She is always available when she says she will be. I would definitely recommend her to anyone who is taking math classes.
Professor Topalova was one my best professors. She taught very well and if students had questions, she did her best to make them understand very well. She is very fair about her tests. She was always prepared in class. I am sure if you pay attention to her lectures in the class and do the homework you will have a good grade .
I took this class over a 6-week summer session along with 3 other summer classes, so my review may be biased. The amount of homework she assigned (that she ensures you're doing by giving pop-quizes) is unbearable if you're taking other classes. Do not take her if you have a heavy course load.
She is really intelligent in her field. If you need help she is there to provide it.
She is a perfect teacher who cares about his students understanding the material she covers. I enjoyed studying Math with her.
I took Pre-Calculus with her. It was nice and easy. She is very clear in what she is expected from her exams. She gives ECs and drops 1 exam. Do your HW to better understand math material. Highly recommended! Easy "A" if you do your work.
Took her in 2016. take her and you won't regret it. Five tests drop one test and she gives 10% extra credits on each exam except for the final for my class. Good teacher!
she drops 1 test grade &2 quizzes but youd wish she'd drop them all. The lowest grades I would get in any math would be a B until this class.. yes she is always there willing to help but it just helps you get more confused because of her wording. Talks nonstop & changes her wording while teaching.. better off teaching yourself Choose someone else!
Professor Topalova is the best professor I've ever had. She's such a sweetheart she gives 10% extra credit to your first test if you write one page about who you are. She only gives a few quizzes and most of them are online and you get two attempts. I've always been horrible at math but I have a B+ im her class. Would DEFINITELY take her again.
All questions in tests and quizzes are from homework so as long as you do them, you should be fine. Not an easy class (only a math freak would think precal or cal are easy), but if you do all your work and attend always to class, you will get a B at least. Prof. Topalova is a reasonable person who enjoys what she does.
SHE IS AMAZING !!!!! easy class as long as you do all ur homework, that s an easy A
Hardest professor.
makes you do all this work, that is worth nearly nothing. All her grading is based on is the tests, there is tons of hw, and quizzes, which weigh nothing but 10%. shes a really hard grader, tbh she doesn't care if you pass or not. that just shows the kind of teacher she is.
She doesn't care about her students. All she wants to do is get the material over with.
Worst professor, in the whole college. she doesn't explain well and expects you to get the concept after the first time explaining it. not everyone is good at math and therefore i would definitely not recommend this professor. waste of time and effort. Homeworks are only worth 10% when it takes hours to do. Tests are heavily weighted 50%. dont take
Not a good professor rushs over the material and expects you to understand. it is Calc so it's pretty difficult. hw are worth 10% and final worth 50%. definitely wouldn't even recommend her to my worst enemy. DO NOT TAKE.
She speaks as if we are math majors. Rushs thru. Doesnt care if ur passing or not
This teacher doesnt update grades you her to ask her too and i agree with all the reviews. Her grading scale is very rare. Tests weigh alot and tons of hw for nothing.
Worst professor. Very tough grader overwhelming and doesn't care about your grads. I wasted my time taking her class. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS.
This teacher flies through lectures at a fast pace which will hurt your grade heavily if you don't understand. She has 3 exams and 1 final; she drops the lowest exam and quiz. Exam is worth 50% and the final is 25% which means only 25% is for homework, quiz and attendances. Homework and quiz is a lot. She will help during office hours.
Such a hard teacher. Lots of stuff she rushs thru assuming that you know it on ur own. Do not take her
"Run away from her." She goes through the Curriculum very very fast. HWs are A LOT and worth nothing. The grading scale is too tough. I'd never take her again.
Her grading scale is crazyyyy. She assigns sooo much hw and its not worth anything. I dont like her at allll. Do not take
HARDEST PROFESSOR IN NOVA
Professor S. Topalova is by far the best teacher/professor I have ever had. She has a way of teaching that makes it so easy to understand. She truly cares about her students and wants her students to pass. She will go over the material until you understand it. Her open availability for her office hours makes it easy to reach out to her.
16wk MTH163 Fall 2017. I'm not brilliant at math, but her class really gave me confidence in myself. Ton of homework online using Lumen. You need to study to figure out how things work better. Some quizzes online. Free online textbook. Do the extra credit. Best thing is I did well enough that I could get a C+ on the Final and still end with an A.
she have a great way of teaching a class. I have learned so much from her
Best Professor; do all the hw and you will surely get an A*
she seems nice but she is tough in the meantime. she gives a lot of homeworks. she think we are only taking her class. she should understand that we are taking another class that we have to work on and we work to pay our living expense. I am dropping her class because of the crazy time that i have to spend on her non sense. school should figure .
Honestly the best professor I have ever had for a mathematics class. She loves her subject and shares her enthusiasm. Calculus is hard for some of us (me) and make no mistake you have to work hard. She is very good at explaining and is very good at pacing to get through the material. Do the homework and participate in class and you will do well.
Rushes most lessons, tough grader. Nice prof but I wouldn't wanna take her class again ever!
she seems very nice and she loves her subject . the stuff that use in Aleks are totally different from what we discuss in class. Rushes most lessons. I don't recommend her at all.
Amazing professor! I took MTH167(precalc with trigonometry) 6 weeks class. The only hard part is that since it's a fast class it has a LOT of homework, but as long as you do the majority of it and ACTUALLY pay attention in class you'll get a good grade. Very detail explanation. Answer your question in class and reply to emails fast even on weekends
Absolute nightmare. She talks really fast and you cannot absorb the information. She writes very sloppy so you cannot even write it down for consumption later. She is not an efficient speaker as in a 75 minute class she can only show you on average three problems. You have to learn it yourself- just take an online class and save your time!
Nice teacher who really wants you to participate in class. Really loves math. The work on Aleks was a lot and frustrating at times. Thoroughly makes you write down every detail of how you got your answers on the tests. But still a great teacher I would recommend.
The professor made it a point to call on different people in the class to work problems out in front of others. If you have anxiety, this is distraction from what is already a challenging course. The ALEKS software required is terrible and drags down the rest of the course. Facing both of those issues together is unnecessarily challenging.
Professor Topalova has been the best professor Ive had at NOVA. She makes sure everyone understands everything and wants everyone to be able to do problems in class so they understand. I live in Manassas and she teaches in Alexandria so it was a little drive so their were a couple times I missed class and it brought my attendance grade down.
Lectures are not as helpful as you would like them, she has a strong accent, hard to understand. She will never go over pre-calc stuff, even if you go to her outside of class. She assigns homework that has problems that we never see in the exams. For me personally the homework was a distraction with the amount that was given.
Prof. Topalova is dedicated to what she does, loves her subject area, is organized, collected, and works HARD. She's is extremely intelligent, wants students to learn the information they need, explains concepts in clear detail, and gives GOOD problems not more problems. Grades may seem harsh, but you'll realize they're fair. 10/10 would recommend.
Mostly rushes the lessons. If you're someone that needs to see proofs to understand and grasp the concept this is not the professor to take.
Professor Topalova is good at knowing what she teaches, but a little difficult to follow through the lectures. She gives homework, quizzes, or tests almost every week although she drops the lowest of each category, it is difficult to get a good grade even if you spend a lot of time on online homework that is overwhelming. She does not round grades.
Professor Topalova is a great Math teacher. She'll go over multiple versions of different problems, multiple times to make sure that everyone is on the same page. She is homework heavy, but that's just to make sure everyone practices. She'll also drop certain grades. That's I went from F early in the semester to a B by the end. Obviously effort too
-Teaches like you are supposed to know the materials before hand(like a review) -Doesn't know how to manage her time, constantly going over/running out of class time. -Heavy accent, makes mistakes very often. - HW heavy in Aleks, projects, all this is worth very few points yet takes forever to complete. -Very strict grader/ had to learn elsewhere.
She's quite rude when it comes to being on zoom, if you get something wrong she gets defensive about you not knowing it. Other days she really nice and does care about being in school during a global pandemic, but a lot of homework to keep up with. Overall she could be a bit nicer and understanding, but if you do the work and go to class, A grade
I took MTH167. The class was good. If you listen and know the material you should get an A. Good grader and her lectures wasn't hard to understand. Although, the homework can get tedious she gives you second chances. Overall, nice professor I would take this class again but I can see it could get harder. The only problem wit the class is Aleks work
Im bad at math, only got a B- because we had a substitute for a test and two quizzes. Her lectures were hard to digest, especially when she taught two lessons. Take good notes and title them accurately. Homework is a lot but do it, will help your grades. Was hard to learn from previous tests/quizzes. This class was time consuming for me personally
Professor Topalova is the best math teacher I have ever had! She is knowledgeable and has worksheets with all the material you need summarized. The negative comments you see are from slow learners. If you pay attention, keep up with the fast pace (which I like because it keep you engaged) , do your homework and study, you will do fine. Recommend!
Specifically said she makes the material difficult. Lectures do not prepare you for hw, which does not prepare you for quizzes, which does not prepare you for exams. Hardly any, if any partial credit and nonconstructive feedback on quizzes and exams. Refused to go over previous material and reacted very poorly to correction when she made mistakes.
Is shorter words, dont take her!!! She makes the tests hard on purpose and is unclear with her instructions. Shes one of those who says you should have learned this already. Im not the type to comment but my experience in her class was awful.
Do not take the class and do yourself a favour. Math263 is important and a harder class take a good professor. Her lectures are all over the place very unorganized. She teaches like you are already expected to know the material. Lectures do not prepare for Hw or the test. Makes difficult test and quizzes. Had to get a tutor to learn the material.
I took her class a year ago, and she was the best math professor I have ever Had. The course was at the average speed, and I didnt find her rushing it. She always goes through homework problems at the beginning of the class, and she also offers help during her office hours. I didnt do as well in other math classes as I did in her class
Took her MTH 161. Dropped the lowest grade of exam and project. If you are lazy, you might feel like she goes tough but to study and learn math, you cannot be lazy. If you are caught up with the ALEKS HW, do the projects, and do the study guide, everything should be very straightforward.
The class had a lot of homework but it did help to retain the material for the exams. Skipping lectures and not doing homework will not be in your favor, I had to get a tutor to stay on top of this class.
She is an excellent professor. However, you need to work and be consistent with your homework and prepare for your tests, otherwise you won't pass the class.
Great and nice professor .A lot of homework due to aleks but if you stay on task youll get through. Unfortunately I will be taking her class again because I would rather take a class knowing how she grades rather then going somewhere and not knowing. Very nice and helpful though but do not take if you have a lot of classes or cant keep up.
This professor does a great job teaching Calc I but there's a lot of material to cover and not enough time. Make sure to do the HWs for extra practice.
she teaches well but it seems like she enjoys making tests as difficult as possible. in a 3 hour lecture you only get a 15 minute lunch break and everything is extremely time sensitive. if you dont submit your test work within the 5 minute window shell get mad and deduct points regardless if you have internet troubles or not. Do. Not. Reccomend
her explanations are clear, test aren't that difficult and she is not a tough grader. there are enough assignments throughout the class so even if you miss two or three you can still pass. however if your class is using ALEKS please for the love of god do not fall behind!!!!!!!!!!! you will regret it. 10/10 would take again
Probably one of the best Calc teachers at NOVA. and I am coming to write this review after taking several other calc courses with other professors, NO ONE compares to her. She explains everything very clearly, exams are exactly on the questions we go on with her, and super understanding. I wish I could find her for my current & future calc courses!
Awful!!! I'm not very good at math. Her tests are hard because she writes the questions that are not from the textbook. She will call on someone to answer a math problem on the whiteboard if no one participates. In which I hate. HW is unorganized. Find another math professor that could easily pass you unless you are very good at math.
She is not a good professor if you thinking to learn something from her your mistaken. She doesn't care much about students or if the students have problem she doesn't even bother care about it. If you are want good grads never ever take her class.
Okay so she's a bit difficult but over all nice person. When it comes to teaching shes fast paced and gives a hefty amount of homework. One thing that stuck out to me is that she gave me half credit for notes when I showed her all my completed work as well as her going through my aleks stats. Why???
AVOID TAKING THIS COURSE AT ALL COSTS!!!! SAVE YOUR GPA AMD MONEY!!!!!
Professor Topalova is very passionate about math, and offers plenty of time for office hours. She is enthusiastic on answering questions about homework and encourages class engagement. Biggest advice for anyone taking her - take good notes, don't be afraid to ask ANY questions, and don't be late with projects.
she consistently encourages students to seek additional help when needed. her provision of extra credit opportunities rewards those who demonstrate a deep understanding of the material, encouraging us to push our boundaries and excel in our mathematical abilities.
Didn't give me my accommodations.
Avoid taking with this professor. She doesn't help at all. Doesn't care for those who aren't good at math. Tests are extremely difficult unless you understand the material. I would find another professor if you can. Please DO NOT TAKE!!
She is really organized with her materials. Does everything in time. If you know a lil bit of pre calc, it''s easy and fun. She explains really in a detailed way
If you have the option to take her class, don't. Shes not good at explaining, she doesnt care about her students at all, and gets angry at students who dont understand.
I wish I could take every math course for the rest of my life with this professor! She values having a relationship with her students. She puts notes packets on Canvas and then projects them onto the white board and goes through the problems with the class! Stay on top of homework and turn projects in on time. Overall an amazing professor.
Professor goes through the material fast during her lectures and doesn't do the best job explaining or walking through the problems. If you take the class be ready to get a lot of homework on ALEKS, It feels like the only way to learn the material. One of the main things you'll hear is, " You'll get more practice in ALEKS."
Nice person, easy grader, available outside of class but you will need to study on your own too. Offers extra credit on all exams. Lowest grades of each kind are dropped, ALEKS is worth 20%. 6 quizzes, 4 exams and a mandatory final. Attendance isn't worth much grade wise. Individual projects before each exam are mandatory but they are pretty simple
This professor is not good. The lectures and exams are extremely hard, and she expects you to understand everything in just a few minutes. Many students fail, and it doesn't feel like she cares. Save your GPA and your time.
