Though she does have a Russian accent, she does clarify things.
incomprehensible. VERY hard to understand her accent. goes very fast.
great teacher! gives examples for every situation. relatively easy!
She does have an accent, but if you attend class, she makes the material very understandable. I got A's in both of her classes.
Loved her accent!
i love this lady!!!
i hated her! she talked too fast, and got frustrated when we asked certain questions.
Very nice teacher. Helpful, just wish she did outside reviews for tests.
She is a horrible teacher. She has an accent, but that is not the bad part. She makes a lot of mistakes and seems very unprepared for class. She is also rude to her students at any oppotunity she gets. Dont take her.
She's a-ight with me. The handouts are off the chain & kept me caught up with the lesson. If u can't understand her accent, she'll be glad to break it down for you.
I don't care what anyone says; this lady is awesome!!
She's a great teacher who has awesome handouts. She's wonderful in explaining any problems. Love her!!
Very smart, but very mean. I thought I was good at math until I met her. If you ask her a question she will not be able to answer. I heard a rumor that it's the #1 fail rate class at CofC.
This professor is HORRIBLE. I had an A at midterms only because of my background in Calculus, but when it came time to answer questions, the Professor could not answer. She always answered in a round about way. Her grading kinda sucked for the final.
I have had this teacher for precalculus and calculus and I wouldn't be able to do any of this stuff with out her. She is bery helpful and her handouts are excellent. She is a sweetheart.
she's tough..she's kinda rude, doesn't answer questions. tests and quizes aren't that bad, but she's hard to understand.
Sofia is a wonderful calc. prof. She knows her math and is extremely nice. She will go out of her way to help you at anytime. I would def. recommend her!!!
She is a wonderful teacher and is always willing to help you out if you are confused. She gives handouts that help make things more understandable. Her class is not easy, but no calculus class is easy. I would recommend taking her as a teacher.
She is mean and rude to students
ONE OF THE BEST TEACHERS I'VE HAD!!
Her lectures were nearly incoherent, I essentially had to learn calculus from the text. The only reason I continued attending class on non-test days was the vain hope that she would drop the eraser...God what a hottie!
She is a good teacher. I would recommend her. I got an A. If I can do it, anyone can do it. If you are trying to pass and she sees that you are, she will probably help you if you go to her office.
couldn't really understand what she was saying, but she's really hot and the accent will make u want to come to class every day!!!!
Mrs. Agrest is a great teacher. She will bend over backwards for her students and makes it very easy to get an A. Her quizzes are harder than her tests, but she always offers extra credit and it helps A LOT.
Ms. Agrest is awesome. She's a very good teacher. She moves quickly, but shows all new material step by step. Wonderful lady and cute to boot.
Hard class, but what can you expect? it's calculus. She gives lots of review and grades on a little curve and extra credit.
She presented the material in a very understanding way. She made sure everyone understood before moving on or offered to help after class.
Agrest is so sweet. She will work as hard as you do to pass you.
Ms. Agrest rocked my world. She was probably my favorite teacher of the semester because she was really good at Calculus and she was so funny. Laugh at her small jokes. She likes that!

Her worksheets were very helpful and she gave homework problems every night. If you had any questions or problems she would work with you and her test were problems from the homework or quizzes. Can make a good grade in this hard class.
Easiness: Well it's calculus. Helpfulness: She moves pretty quickly, but ask for help and shell give it. Clarity: She has an accent. russian maybe?
ummmm....well i thought she wasn't easy but i mean if you study hard you'll do fine. she's one of those people who make you work hard to get an A...she's pretty cute tho
She is a cool teacher, always willing to help. She does have an attendance policy and takes roll every class, so you can only miss a couple of days.
LOVE AGREST! she is very helpful. Make sure you do your homework and stay with her and you will do fine. the reviews right before the test are VERY HELPFUL.. i'm not kidding, do them! she is a very nice lady and funny too!
mrs. agrest is by far the best math teacher i've had and i am definatly not a math person. make sure you do the homework and the test reviews, most of the time there are several homework problems on the tests and quizzes.
I LOVED HER CLASS! she is one of the best teachers i've had at cofc. i would have taken calc 2 if she taught it. she's very organized and if you work hard, your grade will show it. if i can get an A in calc then anyone can.
She is the greatest math teacher I have ever had. I was recently admitted into SNAP for a learning disability in math and I made a B in Precal. I worked hard but she is very helpful and fair. Notes are very easy to understand.
Calculus (w/ some necessary studying) was easy and fun. Mrs. Agrest does have a sense of humor... Uh huh huh.
tough, made me learn even though i was way behind in math after high school. i scraped an A
I dont' know what ya'll are talking about. You can't understand half the words that come out of her mouth and having math that many days a week sucks! I do not recommend her
This was by far the easiest class I have ever taken! It is the only class I have ever made an A in. I highly recommend Ms. Agrest. She is very helpful and yeah she might be a little difficult to understand but the material is EASY! Relax, you'll do fine
She is an awesome teacher who will help you as long as you ask for it. She has a great sense of humor, and looks really really nice.
She is totally horrible if you are not good with your pre-cal skills. I asked a question today and she told me I need to go back to elementary school. I was valevictorian out of 400 students!! She is rude adn mean, but I did like that she types the notes
stop making fun of people on here! That's not what it's for! Anyways, I don't agree with the comment on pre-cal skills. I aced pre-cal and I'm really struggling in her class. Good prof. maybe if Russian is your foreign lang! Don't take her unless you have no other choice. Save yourself the stress.
She totally sucks..i can't wait to be done with math, but unfortunately i have to deal with her=(
She was super at going at an understandable pace and if you still didn't follow she was very helpful during her office hours.
Very hard! Never explains anything clearly! Stay away from her!
I personally thought she was a very good teacher. At times she is hard to understand, but she is very willing to slow down and try her best to help you. She gives a lot of extra credit and wants to make sure you do well. Attend class and ask a lot of questions and you'll be fine.
She is tough on grading and not helpful when you have a problem and hard to understand
If you already pretty good at precal, you will do fine, but many people who had not already taken precal in high school suffered. Do the homework! She often uses problems for the homework or from notes (which she types up and you fill in) on test and quizes! Drops lowest test and quiz. A if you work

Personally I found her hard to understand and she always had a bad atitude around me, making me feel stupid and that i shouldn't be in this class. Many people have a taken calc in high school, but i never did so i was a disadvantage and ended up failing the class. So you decide for you yourself.
Pretty hard teacher...it definetly helps to have taken Calc before. Willing to help you pass the class, but definetly takes a lot of effort and study time!
Do NOT take her if you have NEVER taken precal before. I had taken it before and STILL had major problems. One of the smartest woman I've ever met, but her accent makes her hard to understand.I went to ask her for help one time and she basically told me i needed to study harder. AVOID.
Had problems with other professors, very clear, good notes, not a bad class
Shes so sweet and funny! She really knows Calc and is willing to help if you need it. She's very fair but the final is worth 25% so its rough if you're not good at taking finals. You can miss class 5 times w.o penalitation. TAKE HER! She's the best Calc teacher at Cofc
Okay lets face it. Calculus sucks. But Mrs. Agrest is adorable. Her accent makes her hard to understand sometimes and she moves really fast but she is so smart and wants everyone to do well. Go to backwork and do the homework. If you try really really really hard you will do well
If you could understand a word that came out of this woman's mouth, you'd be destined to excel. If you could stay awake for more than five minutes during one of her tirades, you'd be much further ahead than I was.

Hard course. She tries to help but gets confusing and has accent. Get to work in groups on labs so they are easy A's but tests are really hard and the final exam is a killer!
she has a weird accent but you get use to it. she tries as hard as she can to help you understand. her tests are from homework, but hw is not required. however, you have to know the basics of calc to understand her. she assumes that you know your stuff.
She speaks and goes over material way too fast (and the accent doesnt help). Then when you are confused and ask a question she acts irritated and barely answers before she quickly moves on. I did not enjoy her. Don't take the class unless you already know the info.
She is REALLY smart and you can tell she knows the material. She moves at lightening speed and is not good at answering questions when you ask them. She just gets agrivated and says the same stuff over and over again. Do not take unless you have had pre-cal before, even then i wouldnt recommend it
She is so sweet and helpful. She is really smart and knows exactly what she is talking about- plus she is always so friendly- which is nice at 8 in the morning :)
she is really nice and you only use the textbook for homework. teaches off of handout that u must print off her website. overall a good teacher and i enjoyed her. humorous also.
She knows what she is talking about and if you ask for it, she will help you. Homework is not mandatory but some quiz questions come straight from homework. If you don't know the material before taking her class then it will be difficult. I would highly reccomend if you have taken calculus before.
she is a real good professor. I mean she is amazing. Calculus is an extremely hard class and she teaches it in a way that makes sense. i wish all the professors could teach like her. she presents all of the material clearly. Her worksheets are the key. IF you study them and can do those problems them you will do real good in her class.
Very sweet lady but THIS CLASS IS HARD. Admittedly, I've never been good at, and therefore never liked math, but I have had other teachers who've broken it down to the point where I could understand. Definitley do the homework and review handouts...most test/quizz probs come straight from those. Ask her to explain if you don't understand! She will.
Great professor, especially if you've already taken calculus. She is good at explaining concepts, and I learned far more in this class than I ever learned in high school calculus. Just be prepared to do the homework to really get it.
Easy to understand, great handouts - makes it easier to follow steps. Always making sure you understand before moving on. My grades in math always depended on the teacher. If you're like me then you should take her!!!
she is really sweet and funny but for someone who has never taken precal before (like me) its really hard. she moves really fast and if you aren't there or if you don't pay attention then your screwed. she uses handouts which are nice but I still had a horrible time in this class and failed it because her teaching sytle did not work well with me.
Great teacher! Very knowledgeable about what she teaches! Offers to help when you do not understand something. Easy office hours. Do the reviews... they are exactly like the test, just different numbers. The projects are difficult, but again she offers help to who ever needs it. I would definatly take her again!
All i can say is she's fair. And hot.
She is a very nice lady who knows her subject. I stuggled the whole class. She goes very very fast and sometimes its very hard to keep up. I thought this would be a review since I already took it and made an a in high school. It was the same material and I made a c-. I worked my butt off but there might be hope for you.
She teaches through handouts. You print all of them off of your computer and she just puts it on the overhead and goes through the handout. I don't learn very well that way so I felt like I was teaching myself. She does give labs, which help your grade b/c you work in groups! We had quizzes too. So she doesn't grade only tests!
she was a good teacher only she moved really quickly through the material.
She's a little hard to swallow, but she's a great teacher and she knows what she's talking about.
She is a good teacher and explains things well. She's somewhat intimidating but if you go to her office she is helpful. She moves at a fast pace but if you keep up with the homework and go to SI sessions you will do good in her class.
You kind of have to already have a good knowledge of calculus before taking this calculus class. Without it, I had a lot of trouble. Tests are insane so students...be prepared!
shes pretty good..i love her teaching style..very fast but to the point!
Hard teacher, to the point. Does not play around. Study a lot. Office hours helpful.
Sofia is a great professor. At first a bit intimidating. She is tough and moves quickly but if you do homework, attend class, and go to SI you will do fine. She is very helpful during office hours, always willing to help a student.
The class itself is hard, but Agrest is GREAT. I hate math, but I love her class, she has a lot of good energy and she's pretty funny.
Even though her accent makes her pretty hard to understand, she tries to make the math as easy to understand as possible. Hard, lots of work, but she tried to help your grade out with labs, take home quizzes, etc. Good teacher
She's a really nice person but the class is fairly difficult. You have to print out your own lesson guides which is a good 200 pages by itself. She will definitely help you the best that she can to understand the math she's teaching. and yes mrs. agrest "ve are vis you"
took her over the summer for calculus I - so much easier to comprehend over a shorter semester and explained things way better than the other teacher i had for this course.
I've never met a teacher who cares more about her students. she really wants you to understand the material and will go the extra mile if you will. By far is one of my favorite teachers, but don't be mistaken, she makes you work in her class. She gives you every opportunity to receive an A if you are willing to work for it.
She certainly knows her stuff! Her handouts are very helpful. Be sure to do the homework because she uses questions straight from it on quizzes and tests. Sometimes, she seems to not care too much about whether students understand the material or not, but overall, she is usually willing to help out and give you a hand with a difficult subject.
She is hard to understand because of her accent but she has straight forward notes and the test questions are pretty much the same as the notes and homework problems. Homework isn't mandatory. If you can get through the accent then you can probably do well in the class.
She's great! She's very intimidating at the beginning, but you'll like her once you get started. It's a very hard class, but she's always willing to help. Do your homework EVERY night and ask questions and you'll do fine. Take her if you want to learn and get your money's worth.
This professor is ridiculous. She is no help what so ever.Beware if you go to her office hours, for she will yell at you and repeatedly say "we went over this in class". She talks to you like you are dumb. She also doesn't give you much time at all in class for quizzes which is ridiculous. Good luck trying to understand her!
one of the worst professors I have had so far. She loves the fact she is knows everything about math and can do a problem in about 1.2 seconds. Makes you feel extremely stupid. Is not willing to explain a problem differently if you did not understand it the first way she taught it. Quizzes have about 3 problems, so miss one and fail.
CLASS IS HARD! SO IS AGREST!! Do not take her if you are not good at math! I havent had math since my freshmen year, and nearly failed the class my jr year. She does not explain the material, but will breeze through it. Very hard class, don't advise anyone to take it if you care about your GPA! She helped write the PreCal book for goodness sake!
ok i had her this summer, and i dont know why so many people are saying negative things about her. I love her, shes an awesome teacher, and she will answer your questions if u just ask her...as a matter of fact she encouraged us to participate and ask her whatever we wanted. shes there to help. sure there is a lot of homework, and u actually hav
Tough class. I failed like four or five quizzes but she drops like three or something. I must have Aced the final cuz I so gotta A minus. I like her shes wa great professor.
The worst math teacher I've ever had. IMPOSSIBLE to understand. Moves so fast that you don't even have time to copy down what she wrote let alone understand what she is trying to teach you. Her accent makes the class twice as difficult as it already is. DO NOT TAKE HER.
So calculus is a tough subject, and she does move kind of quickly through the material, but if you do the homework and ask for help when needed, you should be fine. Take advantage of Supplemental Instruction if it's offered to you, otherwise use the Math Lab. They're great resources, especially for working on the labs.
She expects a lot from her students but she is a wonderful teacher. She gets right to the point and lets her students know exactly what she expects, and after the first few days she will become one of your favorite teachers.
She is a great teacher. She provides packets of notes that are filled in during class, and she gives plenty of examples. Calculus is a hard class, but if you do your homework, and ask questions when you are confused, she is more than willing to work with you. She will be one of your favorite teachers.
This is a very difficult class, but taking Mrs. Agrest is good because she makes the final. She moves very fast through the material, and her accent is sometimes difficult to understand. I was scared to ask her questions because she can be harsh and condescending. However, the class materials were fairly helpful and she does review.
Had Professor Agrest for both precal and calculus. In calculus, she flies through material and can sometimes leave you in the dust. You should definately do the homework. Quizzes and test are challenging, but they prepare you for the final, which she writes. Can be impatient with slower learners. Work hard.
Sofia has no interest in her students, even if they show a genuine effort to learn. Seems as though she is only there for the grant money to do her research...not to be passionate about helping others learn. REDICULOUS attitude towards students who don't understand. If she is your Calculus teacher, you will be teaching yourself!!
I liked this professor overall. However, don't miss class unless you make plans to get the notes from someone else because you will fall behind and Professor Agrest is not very helpful. The key to getting in A in this class is to go to class, follow along during note-taking (which can be rather fast-paced), do the homework, and go to the math lab f
I think she's a great teacher. Once you understand her accent, she's a very clear teacher. Her tests are very fair, and the study guides really help. She's helpful in office hours, and gives opportunities for extra credit. I highly recommend her. She may be a little tough, but it's possible to get a B or A with hard work.
worst math teacher I have ever had. Test are very very difficult and she is very picky grader. If you go to her office hours she will just ask for your homework. Goes extremely fast and is not very clear. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!!!
I like Prof. Agrest. She presents the material in a simple manner and really wants to prepare you for Calculus, however, I would never ever ever recommend taking this class for a summer session. It's too much too fast - she gives some extra points but unless you're a math genius, you'll be in trouble.
Miss Agrest is probably one of the best math teachers on this campus. Her class may seem tough but if you do the homework and come to class it's easy to follow.
Study handouts are excellent. She prepares you very well for calculus. If you don't understand math easily or haven't taken precalculus in the past, her lectures could seem very difficult. The tests are easy if you do old homework problems. I recommend her to students who like math; if you despise math, then I would search for an easier teacher.
As a precalc teacher, she prepares you well for upper level classes. Shes the math chair, so she's a great teacher. The tests and quizzes come right from the handouts. Sometimes it can be tough as she moves fast, but its easy to get used to. She's good about office hours
For precalc, shes very easy and prepares you for upper level math classes very well bc she is the department chair. Her students always perform way better on the final than the other pre-calc classes. Calculus is a lot more challenging and she goes very fast. for both classes, drops 2 lowest quiz grades and final can replace a test grade
Agrest supplies you with the needed materials to learn in pre cal. on the other hand I have no idea what I am going to get in this class. Its hard but math is hard you need to study and go to SI and the math lab. Agrest does answer questions and is willing to meet with you. she prepares you well for the test but I did so agree with the final
She is a good teacher, I believe a math department chair. She provides the class with handouts for the lectures, but goes crazy when you do not have them. Be sure to take notes even if you forget to bring a handout because she will call you out. Her tests are hard and she assigns webassign almost every other day. She's willing to help, but hard.
I loved her calc class so much! Her accent and her extreme energy makes her very fun to take class from!
A word of advice for Pre-Calc. Do not take in summer! It goes fast and is very hard. She replaces lowest exam if final exam score is higher and provides necessary notes. Expects participation in disccusion while note taking at same time which is difficult she isn't patient. She is details but deducts pts for not showing work which is like H.S.
Prof. Agrest is a great teacher but she moves very quickly. I don't like math very much so I was in the math lab almost every day for help. She provides good notes and is happy to work through problems, but sometimes can be impatient. She's comical at times and actually cares about her students and their success.
Hard Class, she moves really fast, tests are extremely hard. not helpful in office and was kinda rude
Her class is very fast paced that consists of her simply working thru problems on the overhead. After 35 hours of studying and attending all her office hours still receiving and F on the midterm I was forced to withdraw. Very difficult teacher who I wouldn't recommend to anyone who doesn't have a vast background in math prior to her class.
First off I would not recommend anyone to take this class. Her idea of teaching is how many handouts can I get through in one class. She is very fast pace and it is very difficult to keep up, my class had about 35-40 people in the beginning of the semester now its down to 15. Some people are just not meant to be teachers, simple as that...
Agrest is great! But if you are not decent at math, I can see how she would be a struggle. I would highly recommend never missing her class, as it is fast paced and you take lots of helpful notes everyday. But if you do have to for a legit reason, she is helpful in her office hours. There are four tests, 8 quizzes and a cumulative final plus hw
She is Generally Happy and It feels like she wants her students to learn but she goes through the material too fast and its difficult to understand new material without learning prior lessons. So much online homework, but the only way I learned was the hw. PRINT OUT HANDOUTS. Do Not Take Unless You Are Already Good At Math. Grade Killer.
Difficult class, very fast paced, hard tests, homework is INSANE. She is not very nice and makes you feel stupid when you ask questions. If you are bad at math like me and only need the credit for your major, avoid Agrest and try to find a professor that will be more patient with you.
AVOID. Love Math, but hated this class. Bad textbook. Impossible quizzes and homework. Rude instructor. Should be fired.
Professor Agrest is a great teacher. I am absolutely terrible at math but after I took her for precal I made sure to take her for calc. Always print out the handouts. She makes them so note taking is easier for you. There is homework after every class but if you do it you will do really well in the class. She is generally upbeat and happy.
Prof. Agrest is a good teacher, however you should probably only take her if you are already somewhat good at math. She goes very fast but always explains everything. At times she does make you seem stupid for asking questions but she will always answer them. Good teacher, but I can see why she may get bad reviews.
Agrest isn't a bad professor she isn't great either. If you aren't already good at math I probably wouldn't take her. She has a bit of an accent and she moves really fast. The class is very homework extensive. She's really nice usually but sometimes she can be short with students.
She is very once but her accent makes her hard to understand.
Professor Agrest is without a doubt the best math professor I have ever had. She made me interested in math. For you all who want to succeed and work hard(especially if you are interested in science): take her. For those of you who go to college to slack off: take someone else. Professor Agrest is sweet, fair, fast and clear. I owe her big.
Dr. Agrest knows her stuff, just make sure to keep up with the all the sheets she has you print out to follow along in class. Also, don't fall behind on WebAssign. She is an amazing professor, and not so hard on the eyes either.
Lets be real here. Calculus is difficult. It will be difficult no matter who you have. There is a ton of information to get through during the semester and it isn't going to be an easy class. But Agrest is a good teacher and if you want to actually learn and be prepared for your final and potentially higher level math, this is who you need to take.
Prof. Agrest is a great teacher. Calculus is a difficult class, so you're going to have to study no matter what, but she makes it as clear as possible. She does move quickly through lectures, but gives handouts to fill out and stops every so often to make sure everyone is on the same page. She is open to all questions and very helpful when you ask!
This subject is hard yes but other professors seem to be way more helpful so if your not straight out of high school i suggest someone else. Otherwise know that she expects you to remember everything to this point with no review if your rusty/ maths not your subject beware! It will reflect ur grade! Oh and she does NO makeups not even for sports!
Highly reccomend her for both pre-calc & calc. The notes she types out for her classes are great study guides for tests/quizzes/finals. ASK questions in class, & go to her office hours! Do the HW consistently, study a lot, & you will do well. She is very funny, intelligent, & cheerful, & wants her students to put in the effort & succeed!
Agrest isn't a bad teacher nor is she a good one. If you are not the best at math don't take her course! Have to study study study. Professor is trying to see how many worksheets she can get through in one class without GOOD explanation. When asking questions she tends to get snappy. Do not take in summer !!
Really not helpful nor nice about you needed help
Prof. Agrest is extremely tough if you don't have a solid foundation in math. If you fall behind, even just a little bit, you will struggle through the rest of the semester and probably fail. If you don't take her class seriously from the onset, she will not like you, and will be short on patience with you. Wouldn't recommend to anyone.
Really really hard and a lot of hw!!!!
Professor Agrest was a great teacher! If you are lazy and don't study or do your homework you will fail. The class will be easy if you pay attention, do your homework and study the handouts! The homework is harder than her tests and quizzes.
AMAZING LADY! The class is challenging, but not impossible. She provides an abundance of opportunities for practicing and getting help, super nice and funny, and very well versed on the subject.
Extremely hard and was not the best at helping when stuck on a problem. I would not recommend if you don't learn at a very fast pace.
Gives out notes that are so wonderfully detailed and easy to follow. They really have helped. Overall a nice person but will call you out for having your phone or goofing around. However, if you are goofing around you're screwing yourself over because she really does go quickly.
Moves quite fast, but notes are detailed. As long as you understand examples and hw, you'll do fine. The quizzes are mostly hw questions so stay ahead at least a day. If you have trouble, check out Symbolab. Extra credit is offered for each test and the final is curved massively. Don't buy the textbook, just get the access code via eBay/publisher)
Lots of homework, Its due the same day of class at 11:59, She is very fast paced and does not go backwards, She is very fast talking and has a thick accent, She definitely knows what she is doing and is definitely passionate about math. I struggled in this class and I took up to AP Stat in high school and got a 33 on my Math part in the ACT
There is a lot of hw. She also drops the lowest quiz, lowest 3 hw grades, and replaces your test with your grade on the final if it's higher.
Just not a very nice person period. Has ditto sheets she uses for "lecture" because of her lack of ability speaking English. She barrels through these handouts with reckless abandon. Its more of a shoveling of information than teaching. Don't ask any questions in class or else. No good. Avoid.
The accent is the worst, my god. dont take her class unless youre prepared to decipher what shes is saying at 300 words a minute. seriously turn back before its too late. youll be lucky to get a C- with a lot of hardwork
Worst professor I have ever had. I was a math major and have always been interested in math, she made me hate everything about it. I would ask questions and see her during office hours, but she would basically laugh in my face because I didn't understand something. Plus you can't understand anything she says in class. Awful professor all around
Super sweet lady. Cute and funny. But if you aren't good at math, don't take her. The tests are insane and she gives homework pretty much every day you have class. I literally study for this class every day but it definitely does not show. She's a good person but not a good professor if you didn't take her before or aren't a math wiz.
She moves very fast but if you understand math and are looking for an easy way to get the gen ed out of they way, take her! She speaks quickly and is funny! She offers extra credit on her tests, drops 4 lowest homeworks and drops lowest quiz store. I loved having her and would definitely take again!
This is the worst professor I've ever had. I've taken calculus twice before and she makes pre-calculus impossible. She doesn't teach any material, she just reads from her worksheets word for word and does problems on the board. Her accent is terrible. I would never take this professor again. I wish I knew this before taking her class.
agrest is your best bet for precal. precal is an overall horrible class at cofc and she is the only one that will make at least some sense. This is my second time taking it and first time with agrest and my grade is way better than last semesters for sure. it's gonna be hard but she wants you to get a good grade, good luck
Do not take her. Do everything you can to take a professor besides her. She doesn't care about her students. She doesn't teach. I don't know how she is employed as a professor. If you do take her, enjoy having pointless, long homework assigned 4 days per week.
The material for this class is very hard to grasp. If you are not good at understanding accents then it probably is not a good idea to take this professor.
I don't know how everyone is hating on her so hard here. She is literally the best math teacher I have ever had. Yes, she has an accent, and yes, she speaks fast. But her handouts are the most helpful tools I have ever used in a math class and It ensures that you have complete and accurate notes! Great professor.
Agrest teaches Precal, which is hard enough! She actually is a very sweet person who is glad to help you through issues in the class but don't think asking for help will make her take it easy on you. She does speak fast with a strong accent but she is very intelligent & knowledgeable
She is very detailed with all her lectures! She knows how to make sense of math, and will do her best to make sure your understand. She moves very fast but will slow down if you ask her.
She is tough, but if I said she isn't the best math teacher I've ever had, I'd be lying. While the concepts seem difficult she is so meticulous in the way she teaches that it makes everything so clear. Her accent and positive attitude makes me enjoy her class. "Life is good, math is fun!"
She is awesome, but if you are not great at math (me), this precal class is difficult. We learn SO much material, SO fast. She is not a bad professor but just be prepared for the class to keep going whether people understand what is going on or not. Also, SEVERAL people withdrew from the class because they were not doing well...I probably should've
Lots of quizzes and only three tests, and three labs. Grades very meticulously but she is Seriosuly the best option for a calculus teacher. Her handouts/notes are SO helpful and it is essential to come to class. Moves very fast but She provides you with everything you need to succeed & sets you up for success. Onlinehw due 4x a week in weekdays
Professor Agrest is brilliant and very smart but she does not care for her students. Unfortunately throughout the semester, she began to despise me because I always asked questions in class. She made me feel ignorant and small. I really did not like how she treats her students but she is really good at teaching.
Anti-student attitude. Dislikes questions, attacks questioner. Loves gimmicks that waste your time and give zero benefit. No lectures in online class; learn it yourself. Warned us the course in the past "didn't go so well." Yeah, I see why. Has taught forever, but shouldn't. AVOID, especially online. Slow grader. I used to like math. :(
Extremely test heavy, the effort put into the daily homework assignments was negligible (7.5%). Tests and quizzes made up 85% of the grade. The course was self-taught, and if you don't grasp math well, this is not the professor for you. With it being online, it was way too much material at too fast of a pace for students to teach themselves.
I don't like this professor very much. She made us copy a lot of notes and she goes through them way too fast. I tried to keep up with copying all of the notes but sometimes it didn't work out well. So I had to borrow one of my classmates notes to finish copying them down. Her tests were very hard let alone the final exam which was a lot harder.
If you're good at math don't let these other reviews scare you. If you're bad at math like me though, RUN!! I had to drop the course because I could not get my grade up. The tests were impossible for me. Just warning, this class is HARD. She is nice about extra credit and curving but it just wasn't enough for me. Otherwise, I loved Prof. Agrest.
Prof Agrest is a wonderful professor, she teaches fast, so make sure you focus. However, she does also post all lectures in OAKS as well, which is a great resource, if you can't keep up. She may come across a bit harsh at first, but she is very kind and wishes the best for her students.
Agrest's PreCalc class includes homework, quizzes, tests, and "Labs". She provides A LOT of notes. However, her notes give insight into what is expected. The Quizzes and Test normally include about 7 (Quiz) and 20 (Test) questions max. Many points are included into the grade book as well. Overall, work hard and it is possible to get an A.
She is a pretty good professor. You take a LOT of notes that you have to print b4 every class but she definitely tries to work a lot of examples. There are 7 quizzes and 3 tests. She offers extra credit assignments for every test. There are three math labs that should be easy A's if you do the work. HW due 3x a week. Do the work and you'll be fine.
She legit is one of the hardest professors I've ever had. I took her for math 111 and legit im being saved by the grace of God right now, she expects you to remember everything from high school and isn't accessible out of class I had to get another math teacher to help me understand the material. Nice Lady, but wouldn't reccomend it.
Very condescending. If she thinks a question is stupid she will mock it and seems to get annoyed by questions in general. She expects you to teach yourself even though the materials arent very accessible. You also have to print out the notes every day, and most of the grade is quizzes/tests (there are only a few)
The worst math professor I've ever had. Your best bet is to go to the CSL or go online because you won't learn anything from her. Has an accent, barely can be understood. Extremely rude to students who don't understand. Just save yourself the trouble and don't take her for any math! Also in charge of Scamp program! DON'T JOIN!
Prof. Agrest is a very qualified mathematician, but an OK teacher. She understands the concepts she teaches deeply, but that may be her fatal flaw. She is not the best at explaining things to students, all with different levels of preparedness for the material, but explains it in a linear way as if PhotoMath was your professor. Self-study is key.
The worst math professor I've ever had. Has an accent, barely can be understood. Goes super fast in lectures, you'll have to rewatch zoom to even learn anything. Just save yourself the trouble and don't take her for any math.
Had a bad experience with Professor Agrest. She refused to answer students' questions in class, and never responds to emails. I learned the material from people outside of class. She just writes down problems and answers and expects you to know how to solve them. Also, test material is rarely similar to that which is on the study guides. BEWARE!
She knows what she's doing but can not teach it. Her classes are ungodly fast, her narrating what she's doing, and even then she does simple math wrong which confuses everyone. She doesn't answer anyones questions and gives backhanded insults if you ask to slow down. Im decent at math but i had to withdraw after midterms and so did many others.
Agrest is honestly a tough professor. She really wants you to work to understand the material. I would definitely take her again and she helped me understand that you need to work hard to see the grades that you want. Dont take if you arent willing to work hard, but take if you actually want to learn something.
extremely tough professor. the content itself wasn't necessarily hard but her teaching style was impossible to keep up with. If you miss a class or fall behind in any way you will get left in the dust. at her office hours she was not helpful and treated me like I was slow for not understanding. avoid taking this class!!
Great teacher if you understand basic algebra concepts. Teaches in a way that helps you develop a pattern to solving problems. Definitely recommend if you are a fast paced learner but if not, then do not recommend.
Do not take this professor if you want to have any sort of free time. Homework 3 times a week and lectures move so fast it's ridiculous. On top of that, the homework assignments are so different than her lectures because she doesn't make them, they're all webassign. Terrible pacing; she acts like your only class is hers. Avoid this professor.
Very fast paced. Makes you feel stupid for asking questions. Expects you to remember material from years ago and homework is assigned 3 times a week. Grade is based off 4-5 quizzes and 3 tests. Tests are nothing like the examples in class or homework. Avoid if possible.
Professor Agrest is very sweet and funny. Your grade is comprised of 4 tests and 4 quizzes (lowest quiz grade is dropped). Homework 3X a week. Tests are easier than the homework and in-class examples and she offers a 5-point extra credit assignment for each test. She moves very fast but if you go to class and pay attention you will be fine.
Agrest is a great professor and really funny. She moves through content pretty fast but has good resources for note taking. Homework 3x a week, 4 quizzes, and 3 tests.
Ms. Agrest is a fantastic teacher. The material is obviously touch since she teaches Pre-Cal and calculus but she explains the topics well and uses real life examples when she can.
If algebra is not your strong suit, don't take her. Expects you to know most of the concepts going into this course. Talks way too fast and teaches way too fast, if you ask her to slow down, she will for one problem but then speeds up again. Does math in her head and doesn't explain how she solved the problem. She's sweet notes but you will fail!!!
Dr. Agrest was a great professor. She explained the material very well. The course was all notes and lecture with classwork assignments too. I never felt like she was shaming me for asking questions. There was extra credit on all of the tests and she drops the lowest quiz grade. She wants you to pass and you will pass if you put in effort.
grade is heavily based on tests, 3 tests, 3-5 quizzes, 3 "labs" (group work) and homework 3x a week. will always give hw extensions if you ask and truly wants you to pass, but the material is difficult. she is well organized and provides guided notes which is nice, but you HAVE to study consistently.
She wants to help her students in any way possible. Wants us to get As and will give us the resources needed to succeed.
Dr. Agrest is very smart and explains concepts well. Calc is hard and effort is needed to pass the class, but the difficulty of the material is not her fault and she gives you the resources needed to learn the information. People are vindictive on RMP because they fail. Don't let bad ratings deter you from taking her class.
I really liked her as a teacher. the class was hard, but she was really helpful. your grade in her class is a reflection of how hard you work. all of the resources are given to you. I will say her tests are pretty intense but she has a review before each one!
She's really good, but Calc is tough if you don't already have a background. I wouldn't take it if you haven't had Calc in high school. She gives extra credit for every test and does a review before each one. If you do and understand everything in the review that's an easy A.
Professor Agrest's class is pretty intense, but she's genuinely invested in helping you succeed. Utilize all the resources like the guided notes and unstuck ai - they really help offset the fast pace.
Great person, awful professor. Only good thing is she"drops" the lowest quiz grade, but doesn't allow makeups for even medically excused reasons. As for her teaching style, be prepared to learn everything by yourself. Going to class did not do anything for me. Good luck even trying to go to the CSL bc it's backed up. DO NOT TAKE HER
She was the only math prof I've ever had that was effective for me. Hard and fast-paced class, but she is a great lecturer and very nice. Printed notes that are easy to follow and the grading scale is very reasonable. You can't do well without studying though. I would 100% take her for every math class if I could.
I'm not great at math, but she's a great teacher and very kind, always happy to explain things if you need more help. 10/10 PLEASE TAKE HER. I personally do not understand the bad reviews. Yes, the class is hard, but that's because the subject itself is hard, not because she makes it so. She has really helped me be more confident in the subject!
Professor Agrest can seem sort of agressive at first but I really came to respect her by the end of the semester. She truly walks you through every concept and wants to make sure everyone understands the lecture. There is homework every night but it helps you comprehend the lecture.
One of the best professors I've ever had. Intimidating but she is very kind and understanding. Great teacher and I wouldn't consider myself great at math. An A+ is very attainable in her class. I can't say enough good things about her and her class.
