She's the sweetest, nicest gal you'll ever meet

yeh, she looks damn nice for a lady her age.
Can't believe she has 2 children...she looks like as if she's in 20s...

Great teacher in class, gives great examples and explains things clearly. !!!BUT tests marked too hard and unfair!!!
Very fun teacher... and the hotness ranking speaks for itself.
wow this prof is so amazing! She is so gorgeous!
SHE'S FRIGGIN HOT, and its a little distracting but she's really easy so far.
Awesome Prof. Very helpful and nice . . . Plus she's hot, so it makes the class more enjoyable. Answers questions very clearly, and likes to see students understand. Doesn't let students out early though. Be prepared to stay until the very last minute.
Good prof...sometimes takes things to slow (answers too many questions, that's what tutorials are for)...exams are tricky
she knows her stuff. but the course is easy. i got a 54 on the midterm and ended up with a B+ in the course.
She was a great prof and cared about how students did in her course. She explains things in great detail (sometimes too much) but the course was still interesting. Thanks to her.
She was an awesome prof, really tried to make sure everyone understood what she was talking about.Very Clear! If you go to class and at least attempt some of the reading the midterm and final won't be that bad... the course is a LOT of work, but not bad!
Very nice prof. Told us that 25 out of 30 multiple choice would be taken from the textbook website.
Great prof. She really cares about how her students do. Presents the material so its very easy to understand, well maybe that's because she's so hot that I'm more attentive.
She is a very good prof, very helpful.Nice legs...

Amazing prof. Genuinely cares about students unlike most other professors I've had. I'd strongly recommend taking any course she teaches.
Smokin!
Great Prof
I was a TA working with Sofy, and she truly is an amazing professor. The care she provides her students is amazing, and she is truly a motivating and wonderful educator. Great work Sofy :)
Excellentttttttttttt ...
She's a good teacher.
excellent prof. veeeery helpful. explains everything in perfect detail and seems to know the info that she teaches.
Great teacher. Interesting class, great explanations.
AMAZING!!! Sofy is definately my favorite prof. She explains everything well and keeps you interested and her slides are all posted on her website. Tests were fair but had a lot of content. The most approachable and kind prof I have ever met.
Sofy was a very approachable, nice lady who really wants her first years to do well. I found she explained things very clearly and her notes are on powerpoint and were easy to follow along with! Overall.. I was very impressed!

Sofy's a great prof, but tends to speed through some sections. The night lectures are unbearably long. Labs are useless, but attendance is mandatory. A high workload for few marks: ie, a 20-30 page report worth less than 7% of the final mark? Come on. Summary: Course useless, prof great (and a hottie, too).
She was AMAZING! Made it worth going to an 8:30 a.m. class - and I hate mornings!Wish there were more profs. like her - 1 in a million!
lectures in a colloquil way
She was amazing - great prof, great person, great looks! This was the one class I never skipped!
A really hard class but I enjoyed coming to lectures because Sofy always interacted with the class and knew some of our names even in a class of 250+. She always told stories about her kids, had great lecture slides and was very approachable.
Sofy was a great professor, one of the best I've had thus far. She gives clear examples and for the most part always makes class relevant and interesting.
I loved her. She was very clear in her explanations and very approachable. She cares a lot about her students. I would definitely take another course with her. You must go to class otherwise you'll miss clicker questions and exam hints, and you'll easily fall behind. Overall she was a great teacher though. I would recommend her to anyone.
i love sofy! she's smart, knows her stuff, and makes business interesting.
Sofy is a great prof! Except when she wears that grey dress cause she so fine. I'd go her for sure. sexy teacher fantasy uhhhhhhh
Good prof who engages students well. She bases all exams on the slides, and much of the important points are things she says in lecture so attending is important.
Great Prof! She is really interesting and funny. She gives tonnes of examples which help a lot when trying to understand it. She is really nice and is always willing to help a student out. Most students are intimidated my their prof, but she isn't at all. I really enjoyed my time in that class :)
Great prof! Really made the material interesting and has a way of making things easy to understand. Gives lots of help to those who ask and makes class interesting.
Excellent lecturer, very engaging and interesting, but strict about talking. Her tests were fair, but you were screwed if you didn't go to class; textbook was not helpful at all.
Sofy was a great first year business prof. Very professional and gets right down to 'business'.. HA!! The exams were challenging but fair, gotta study well in advance for it to do well. MUST attend all lectures to succeed bc she shows videos, and most of the class you'll be constantly taking notes w/all the key points. You're lucky to get her!
She is probably the best business prof you can get for BU111. Make sure you study well in advance for exams and attending lectures are a must to do well.
One of the best profs I've ever had. She taught me BU111. Very engaging lecturer who really cares about her class and helps them to succeed. Lectures are very interesting and she relates everything to the real world. Exams are challenging but very fair. Highly recommend her and hope to have her again
As my first year, first term business prof, I just want to say I hope the rest of them are like her! She was fantastic and very clear with her teaching, and made going to class enjoyable.
THE NICEST 1st year prof! She gives clear examples but her exams were tough. Did not like her bonus mark opportunity, it does however force you to come out of you shell. She is just a nice person to talk to and get help from if you need it! Clearly picks favourites, so sit at the front!
Probably the best prof I had first year. Clearly expains, loves what she does and makes it an engaging as she can. Fair marker and quite charming (:
BU111 is not an easy course, especially if it's your first business course in university. She is very clear with her explanations and has instructions ready for assignments at the beginning of the term. Prepare to write a lot on exams and to be specific in your responses. Overall, it's a doable course as long as you study.
Read the textbook. Skip class because you don't learn anything. The SI sessions are way more helpful than Sofy's lectures.
Unreal prof. Her class is really hard, and the midterm was absolutely brutal, but she does a really good job of explaining and uses lots of examples in lecture. The exams are mostly lecture based so you have to go to lectures, I didn't even touch the textbook.
LOVED SOFIE
Great prof! Wants you to succeed and will help you to succeed. She explained her topics well. The midterm and the exam were tough but fair
Good teacher, gives you the stare-down if you talk. Content is fairly boring but she makes the best of it
Amazing prof! Very clear with expectations and very helpful! Lectures are pretty engaging!
best prof i've had at laurier :) consistent and kept lectures relevant. exams were very fair.
She gave very clear lectures consistent with her slides. Absolutely no need to purchase the textbook, we did not even open it. Attend all lectures and study the material well for exams and you should be fine.
By far the most amazing teacher you will ever have. If you attend all her classes, exams will be a BREEZE. Extremely clear, and keeps your attention. KEEP NOTE OF HER EXAMPLES, THEY WILL BE VERY USEFUL DURING EXAMS!
More of a mother than a prof! She really cares about her students and makes the transition into first year very easy. She will do everything she can to make sure you understand the material so don't be afraid to ask questions!
Sofy is the most amazing business prof you will ever have! I recommend switching sections to be in her class!
Sofy is THE best prof! She is very clear is her expectations, easy to understand and so nice! You need to go to class to learn the material, but the material is not difficult. Do your work and you will get a good grade! She also recognizes students who pay attention. Change your schedule to have her!
Awesome teacher
Good, though I don't think she was as great as people make her out to be. Still better than most profs, and is definitely suited to teach first years. Go to class for her examples, and write them down, you will need them for the midtermfinal. The midterm is absolutely brutal, but it is doable.
She knows the material extremely well and is always willing to help. Found that the lectures jumped around a little, but got used to it and was able to organize notes. Write down everything she says because you'll need examples and links on midterm and final. Exams were difficult, full of content, but fair.
Very clear and enthusiastic, she takes the time to make sure that everyone is clear with the material being taught. Tries to make connections between everything, you just have to be ready to type a lot down. Most of her exams have to do with the connections she made in lectures.
Great professor!! Lectures are really helpful since she is incredibly descriptive! Incredibly hard midterm however!!
Sofy is a good prof and cares about her students. Although she posts lecture slides online, you need to be in class to make sense of the material through the connections she makes. Very tough midterms & finals; lab work will take over your life (mainly 3 reports and 2 presentations). TAs grade everything, so hope you get one that's a good marker.
Sofy was a great professor, she's really nice and explains content in lectures really well. The labs were really enjoyable for me (but that heavily depends on your TA) and compared to other courses, it was a pretty easy A.
When she walks in the class I hear her ego before I even see her. Pretty useless professor. Very few students I know respect her. This course felt like I was in high school again, and it makes sense as Sofy was a high school teacher.
Sofy was amazing. Every student I knew loved her and respected her. It was obvious she cares about her students and puts a ton of effort into making sure they learn. If you want to do well, she is there for you. Everybody I know says she is the best prof ever.
try to understand all the course materials be able to find connections between them lots of writing on the exam dont wait till end to review or you will be crazy during the review
Good prof, really knowledgeable. Course is kinda useless, but I liked the group projects.
Very easy to take notes in class. Speaks very clear.
Sofy is honestly the best, I'm pretty sure she only teaches BU111? She puts so much into the course and cares so much about her students she's absolutely incredible. She's like a mom. Course can be annoying at times but sofy makes it worth it
Sofy always looks professional. Although lectures are boring, you should definitely listen carefully in class.
I find her very condescending as she regularly starts lectures talking about how you won't be successful in the course if you don't do this and this and this and give her your first born. Lectures are boring to sit through but she says a lot of important stuff so you should probably go.
Sofy is a decent professor and well respected by the students, but her course is fairly difficult. How to survive BU111: 1. Get any extra credit offered 2. Go to every lecture 3. Study hard and effectively for her midterm and final (both hard) 4. Focus on getting amazing grades on the group projects (mark savers) 5. Participate in your labs
Sofy really cares about her students. If you attend all of her lectures and write down what she says the exams aren't bad. Work hard and it will pay off. (Don't buy the textbook, just the lab manual)
The textbook is extremely expensive for a book I only opened once. The majority of your mark comes from group projects, which is unfair if you have bad partners and don't have countless hours to spend on your project. Midterm/final are difficult, and the marking scheme results in you getting minimal marks if you don't use her specific "key words".
Okay Prof
Really nice professor. But however, the midterm was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life. Literally, memorize the key words from her slides because that's all they look for when they're marking your exam(s).
She is a pretty good teacher but the reports and presentations are marked pretty hard.
She seems like a very nice person and is very kind in lectures; however, it is university and this course seemed very basic and resembled more of high school course which made lectures long. Also, don't buy the textbook, never had to use it all semester.
Sofy is probably the best prof I've ever had. She makes sure you understand the content and tells you multiple times what material you need to know. Very knowledgeable and although the course content itself may seem self-explanatory, take good, thorough notes when she speaks.
Good class, fair marker. If you are struggling GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS. Everyone stresses about the BU111 final, I'm still using exam tactics she taught me today (3rd year). If you legitimately try, and show her you are putting in effort, she will do everything she can to help you pass.
Pretty good prof, however lecture is a must as the exams feature key terms that are not included in the lecture slides. Spent half of the class talking about announcements so the first 20-30 minutes is usually a write-off
She is cool and willing to help!
She gets to know her students! She is hilarious, she rewards those who participate she is awesome!!
She's a nice person but a tough marker. Her lectures are extremely important and in order to do well on the final and midterm you have to use the words she uses in lectures specifically.
Tough class but worth the work. Learned lots and the projects and stuff you learned about in lecture was all real and relevant. It's obvious she loves teaching and cares about her students.
Sofy does a great job explaining a rather bland course. The course itself is very time consuming, buy Sofy prepares you for what's to come and there aren't any surprises on the test.
Terrible prof. Acts like she's the best prof ever, but, in reality, is extremely boring and self-absorbed. Class is very poorly structured. So much of it based on the opinion of your TA and the quality of your assigned group. (FYI I did well in the class, so that is not why I'm saying she's terrible)
Not as great as everyone makes her out to be. Midterm and final are tough, and the math in this course is beyond difficult. Wouldn't really take a class with her again, but if I had to I wouldn't complain
Sofy is an amazing prof who obviously cares about her students. Midterm and final honestly weren't that difficult. Just DO NOT SKIP CLASS and take good notes. She makes it fairly obvious what is and isn't going to be tested. Quality of labs depends on your TA. She also offer extra credit. DO THEM ALL!! And as soon as possible too.
Sofy genuinely cares for her all of her students and gives extra credit assignments to give them a chance to boost their mark. Attendance is mandatory as a lot of the information covered isn't on the slides. There is a lot of work for the course, group work and individual assignments but, if you stay on top of things you will do fine.
Sofy is an incredibly engaging prof who really cares about her students! The course content isn't really on the slides but more so based on what is verbally explained or discussed in lecture, so make sure you take notes on more than just what's on the slides. The midterm is tough, make sure to take advantage of the resources Sofy advertises!
The actual material you learn in BU111 is mostly common sense. This course is still difficult though, you need to work for your marks. However, if you put in the effort you are rewarded. Sofy does her best to make the material interesting, and she is really good at connecting the content to real life. She wants you to do well but will push you
She is really nice. She hypes up the whole BBA program a lot and seems to put a lot of pressure on students. Very good teacher though.
The course material was super dry and boring. She put me to sleep. The course itself is not to difficult and pretty self explanatory and opinion based.
There were only 2 short readings assigned from the textbook, however you need the online access code that comes with the new textbook. She uses a lot of examples in class to make sure you understand the material. Most of what she says in lectures is not on the slides, so listen carefully and take good notes!
So far my favourite professor at Laurier. Her lectures make the subject matter interesting, and she cares so much about her students!
Theres a lot of obscurity in the business courses but Sofy makes it very clear that you must go to class. You probably won't but that's the only reason you're not doing well. That and the incredibly demanding labs and online quizzes. There's good opportunity for extra-credit which I strongly advise. She spells everything out in lectures.
Explained things poorly
Marking schemes are so specific that even if you have the right answer and explain it well its an automatic zero for that question. The labs are so unnecessary. If you have a good group for new venture youre set, otherwise good luck. Wouldnt recommend taking any of her classes if you dont have to.
Not very engaging in class, not the nicest prof.
The prof for this course doesn't rly matter, the marking is very subjective depending on ur TA, and the marking scheme is so specific that if u know the content and explain it well, u may still not do well. The course genuinely makes u feel like ur at a disadvantage the whole time
Sofy is super specific and wants exact answers on midterms and finals (thats why she is so hard). I feel like she takes common business knowledge and makes it unnecessarily difficult for no reason. Since the TA's mark the exams, there are "keywords" which must be used in the right context in order to do well. Study HARD for the exams!!
Terrible! The exam questions are not hard just the marking is unbelievably specific. They always miss points in the grading scheme meaning you may have the right answer but it is marked wrong thus you must get it remarked. Your mark completely depends on your T.A some are easier by far by just giving away free marks. Sofy is completely irrelevant.
Sofy is an amazing prof! Her course is hard, but if you attend class she's very straight up about what will be covered on the exams. I remember at the start of the term she said, "anytime I say 'this would be a good midterm question,' write it down" and sure enough I had almost every question from the midterm in my notes. Hard class, great prof.
The class is hyped up to be more work than it is. There are a lot of assignments however they are not very difficult. Sofy cares a lot about her students and wants to see you succeed. Tests and assignments are marked very hard but ease up towards the end of the class. Remembering examples Sofy gives in her lectures is very important for tests.
Sofy is simply amazing. Best prof, seriously. So smart and very helpful. GO TO LECTURE, she will mention things not on the slide and core ideas that if you understand - you will succeed.
This has been my favourite class! It was so much work, get ready for hours put into reports and projects but the amount I learnt was phenomenal. Sofy made me excited for the next 4 years in BBA. She is inspirational, funny, and the prof you want for this course. You can tell this is her passion in every class.
DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK - literally not required at all throughout the semester. Her lectures can get kinda boring but it's important that you stay awake because they really help for the midterm and final. She clearly cares about the students and is passionate about the subject and the BBA program.
Lectures are the most important; not only the slides but what she's actually saying. The financial math portion will be a huge pain and a real hit or miss for students. Learn it on your own or go to SI sessions. She's a great prof and super supportive; will help where she can.
Best. Prof. At. WLU
Funny, smart, engaging helpful and fair. Of course she is challenging and has high expectations for her students, as any good prof should, but certainly doesn't surprise or seek to trick you on exams.
Went through lectures slow, but very in depth. Kind of abstract at times.
The lecture material is pretty dry but Sofy explained it clearly. The also gave out lots of exam question hints and gave us a very thorough exam study guide. If you study and memorize everything that's on the study guide and practice writing answers out you can definitely go well in the course.
Detailed explanation of topics. Gives useful insights and examples. Best lecture ever
Great Lectures, Very caring prof, however, it feels like she just reads off of the provided slides and answers questions about them. So if you understand the material on the slides beforehand, there isn't really a reason to go to class
Sofy overall is a great professor and the class is really not difficult contrary to popular belief. Her lectures are useful and interesting and the class is a great introduction to the business world. Sofy can be a little extra in lectures however, so get ready for her to call out students who are on their phone, talking, or leaving the class early
Sofy is a great professor who really knows her content (BU111). If you don't go to the lectures, it will be hard to succeed in this class as the slides are mostly visual. The content isn't hard, it's the workload. I spent around 80% of my first semester on reports/presentations for this class. After September the course takes over your life.
Sofy is a great prof - she always comes to class prepared and gives really good examples that connect concepts in the slides to the business world. She is nice and cares about her students, although she will not continue the lesson if students are talking (something I appreciated but others found annoying). Overall, good first term for business!
Awesome prof! Super funny and genuinely cares about her students. Provides thorough outlines for projects, midterms and exams which are super useful.
Sofy is incredibly insensitive to situations surrounding her students. Her lectures are long and sickeningly boring and the content of her class is overly specific and makes general concepts far more confusing than necessary. She is rude, impatient and uncooperative. If you are supposed to be in her class, RUN!
Sofy is an extremely unprofessional professor .Revoked bonus marks from hundreds of students that earned them through clicker marks and makes insanely unfair deductions. She doesn't care for the well being of students and her grammar and sentence structure on exams is embarrassing and hard to read. Genuinely takes away from first yr BBA.
Sofy is very passionate about her job, and loves teaching others her knowledge. She provides lots of good examples and extra info in her lectures, making them very beneficial and informative. Made for good and valuable info on the exams. Could do without the new venture project though, as it was very time-consuming and hard for the group to do.
She is very unprofessional and condescending towards her students. Provides lots of extra credit, thank goodness. The lectures are very boring but you MUST go or else you will fail. - take down notes of everything she says in lectures. For exams, you have to memorize word for word everything in the slides if you want a decent mark.
Called out people in class for talking when the bigger disturbance was her calling them out. She spent a large amount of time at the beginning of class talking about non-course related topics which made her rush the actual course content. She was not good at teaching the "math" part of the course which was a large amount of the exam.
Don't go to class after the first midterm; go to labs and SI sessions. Spends a lot of time on administration when she does not need too and class becomes a waste of time especially when you get into TVM and the material that follows. Her passion for the HP Case Competition can make her rude and aggressive. On the positive, very knowledgeable.
overall very great. She made me want to do the work!!
Although BU111 is a challenging class, if you work hard it is still very possible to get a great mark. Sofy makes lectures interesting and engaging and clearly cares about her students.
Sofy is one of the best profs I've had so far. It is SO important to go to every lecture and take notes on what she says because she hints towards exam questions and helps answer them. She also gives great examples that help you understand the content. Sofy can be scary though so don't be on ur phone during class cuz she'll call you out for it.
Sofy is a shock to a lot of people who take business and think it's gonna be a walk in the park. Sofy challenges her students and makes them think critically about the content at hand, and she has a good flow to her lectures and they are not boring if you understand and like the material. Final exam was really hard and I would suggest studying !
Not so caring, needed 0.2% more to get a better grade due to Laurier's GPA system. Asked for an exam remark and got deducted 5% instead.
Overall Sofy was a good prof for BU111. She was great at teaching material and genuinely had passion for what she was doing. When one of my New Venture teammates committed academic misconduct, Sofy was very understanding of the other members of the group and gave us good advice on how to move forward.
Was told we wouldn't need the textbook which was great, but when it came down to the difficult midterm and final, everything needed was from what she said in lectures, not even the slides. In order to do well, make sure you take detailed notes on what she says and take detailed notes on examples, don't base notes on the slides specifically.
She really does not plan well and is ultimately the fakest of all professors I have had.
Assessments are all memorization. Not understanding to students, assumes that students will do terribly. Told us she does not expect our class to succeed. You MUST attend lectures, she will post missing parts of a slideshow so people who missed a lecture will not succeed.
terrible
Very knowledgeable; I truly admire her passion. However, I found her to be inconsiderate of students during this pandemic. Attending lectures is necessary to do well in BU111. But unlike other profs, Sofy refused to post recorded lectures. This puts low-income students w/poor wifi network at a disadvantage as we're often missing important material.
She fell so far behind because of doing long announcements at the beginning of each lecture and ended up skipping through important content or not explaining some content properly and even ended up teaching content two days before the exam whereas other profs finished the week before...
Horrible Prof. Spends first 30-40 minutes of online class talking about JDCC and esports instead of teaching the actual content of the course. She never records and posts lecture too, so imagine sitting in your room for 30 mins before she actually starts teaching
She doesn't post lectures and the slide posts aren't even fully completed. She didn't teach half of the content and expects you to look in the lab manual (which you have to pay for even though students wrote it - as she stated). This is the worst prof I've had so far.
Sofy doesn't want her students to succeed. She discouraged all students in her class telling them they should expect a 60% on the midterm. She also blatantly makes fun of students in lectures and to their face. Sofy tries to make it as hard as she can for students and will brag about her JDCC wins from 2018 for the first 20 mins of each class
Spends the first 20 minuets of class talking about JDCC and other random topics. Furthermore, given the current pandemic, she was totally unwilling to adapt her course at all to fit differing student needs. She also skips over major topics in lecture , that ended up being a specific question on the final.
At least 20 minutes were wasted each class talking about the same exact club. This led to new content being covered up to two days before the final. Lecture slides were incomplete when posted, and no recordings were available. She left ample opportunities for bonus marks (hence the 2.0) but this is still just a weeder course. Good luck in BU111.
This was my hardest course simply because the prof made it more difficult than it needed to be and I'm double degree. Wasted class time. Rude to students. terrible email etiquette. pretends to be nice but doesn't care at all.
One of the most inflexible professors ever. Sofy is treating this course like its still in person and does not understand students whatsoever. Shes selfish and only cares about her JDCC club which she talks about for the first 20 minutes of class. Extremely immature when responding students too
Lecture attendance was mandatory to pass however, that puts lower income house hols at a disadvantage because not every student has the same internet capabilities. New CIIP project was boring and repetitive. She spends too much time talk about herself in lectures and has barely any compassion for student doing covid. Provided little time for exams
so terrible I could write an essay on her.
Sofy is an okay prof, however, she often goes off-topic(JDCC) when she is teaching. I can be kinda distracting. You have to go to classes because the test questions are only bought up in class and not on the slides. And she is not a prof that will be kind to every student, she only cares about the "good kids".
If you want to do well in this course, you have to work for it. Although it was repetitive hearing the same JDCC spiel at the start of every lecture, I found that Sofy made the lecture content interesting and entertaining. Attending the lectures alone won't secure a good grade, you have to put in the work and apply yourself! Weeder course for sure.
Very addicted to her JDCC group
Her lectures are synchronous and she purposefully denies access to lecture recordings to students. As a result, you're pretty screwed if you miss a lecture. Lowlight of my 1st semester at Laurier; seriously made me reconsider whether or not I want to stay in BBA program. Turned a fun subject into the worst subject.
Sofy is by far the best prof at Laurier. She goes above and beyond with her students and does the most. Anyone who doesn't like her is mad that they aren't on JDCC or got a bad mark in her course. A real beauty.
Personally, I found Sofy to intentionally make things way more difficult than they need to be. For example for the midterm she goes on to say the class average over the years is a 65% just to stress you out. Also I found the way she acts just shows how unprofessional she is such as the way she responds to emails.
Shes narcissistically rude and not encouraging. First day she told a class of 400 eager students that only 1/3 of them would survive her stupid program. Worst Professor. Makes this class stupidly difficult for no reason. Never used the stuff she taught in the real business world for the past 15 years and still dont like her.
Keeps on talking about JDCC (definitely has some sort of bias towards JDCC students), is unnecessarily strict, and not very accommodating.
The midterm was probably one of the most difficult tests I've ever done. She's a sweet woman, very funny and caring about her students the course is just very difficult. You really have to work hard to understand concepts if you want a good grade in this course. As well, her exam was very difficult.
Sofy makes BU111 unnecessarily difficult and is very strict with deadlines. Many students fail or barely pass the midterm, and it's like this every year. You cannot access lectures past 12 hours of them being posted, which is unfair. Very rude in class and emails. Marks are very dependent on IA marking and group work. Pro tip: GO TO EVERY LECTURE!
This professor may very well be the worst I've had, and im sure she will the worst ill ever have. Seems nice but is condescending, does not make lecture recordings available. Clearly told a group of 500 eager first year students that it will be difficult to pass. Overall a terrible class.
Sofy is a good professor. Most students just assume BU111 to be common sense and to be easy, but instead fail to realize they don't know anything. Just pay attention, Sofy will help you in class and present you with oppurtunities to learn and boost your mark.
Her lectures r pretty easy to follow. The group projects are easy. The midterm is also not too bad if u have the tiniest bit creativity and can make connections. U have to study tho u cant just common sense the exam. Where she struggles is her teaching of tvm. She shows maybe 3 types of questions, and are not a representation of what will be test
Exams are unnecessarily difficult & questions are expected to be answered the way SHE explains them, even if your answer is technically correct. Outdated program with content that you will not use in the business world. Recordings only left up for 12 hours-> difficult to study. PS: Get stuck with an IA who is a hard marker and you're screwed.
Prof. Carayannopoulos and BU111 was the best experience I have had in first year! Make sure to take notes in her classes and listen to the examples she says - it is very important to apply this to assignments and exams. This is not an easy course at all, but was very enjoyable throughout through the group projects and labs.
A tough course but the content was very interesting.
i did well on the midterm and hopefully the exam as well but i didn't attend a single lecture the whole semester because she spends half the lecture wasting time and her teaching methods didn't work well on most students.
Sofy is a goat, just prepare to work your butt off for any high marks. Sofy is a great prof, BU111 will prepare you for your future business endeavours.
Decent professor, just prepares to actually work. The final exam lacked enough time. The main issue is group projects. If your group members have horrible presentation skills, goodbye gpa. Since you are required to equally split time, they will drag down your mark. I wish it was an individual mark. Not realistic in my opinion.
Carayannopoulos is a tough teacher to have. Be ready to work and get started on assignments early. You are assigned many projects on the first week not due for months. Start on them early or you will be very crunched for time. Tough midterm and final, (avg of about 53 on midterm). Her lectures are extremely vague and. Work hard and you will do fine
Biggest con for online learning is that the recorded lectures only last 24 hours, and basically 95% of content that you actually need for this class is taught in lectures. You'll have to take your own notes and make sure to also comprehend what's being taught. Also, midterm and final dont show which questions you got wrong nor how to improve really
Sofy is great at teaching concepts but she was a flawed prof. The average for our midterm was apparently 5-6% lower than usual and she blamed the students for being lazy rather than her teaching... During online learning. The 2nd half of the course was a lot more enjoyable for me than the 1st half. Lot of work in this course. Don't slack.
One of the biggest flaws in this course is group projects that are marked together. If you have members that are are not good workers or unable to present properly it affects your mark which I think is unfair and unrealistic. Be prepared for lots of assignments and stay on top of your work or you wont do well.
Very punctual on due dates, oftentimes gets sidetracked during lectures.
She doesnt deserve the hate she gets. She is actually a very nice teacher who cares for her students. but she is not afraid to fail someone if she thinks they dont deserve to progress. her lectures could get boring, but they are very useful. the exams are brutal but if you study you will pass.
Very good at explaining concepts during lectures. If you listen and take note of her examples, youll understand the material well. I still had to memorize a lot for exams though (the final was my worst mark). The best thing about this course is that you dont have to read any additional content before lectures.
One of the worst profs I had for first year. She spent a ridiculous time talking about JDCC which would result in content being rushed. Midterm and final are brutal so make sure you study. Also the final and midterm are very lecture heavy so be sure to really pay attention during lecture and take notes! TAKE ADVANTAGE OF BONUS MARKS!!!
People either love or hate Sofy's teaching style. She's very no-nonsense and won't put up with crap from anyone. She expects a high standard of work and will absolutely make you a better professional. Apart from the exams which were especially brutal the coursework was interesting and relevant and if you do put in the work you can easily succeed.
Blatantly sexist and unprofessional. Course was entirely subjective and grades were decided at her whim
Arrogant and naive. Very rude to people that struggled academically, horrible cult like attitude that brings extreme negativity. She also makes a new lab manual every year with EXTREMELY MINIMAL altercations for financial profit for herself and the school by making purchasing mandatory every year.
Not a talented professor, but not bad either. Easily the most ill structured course I have taken throughout my undergrad degree and glad i am over it. Has a thing towards her cult of students in the JDCC program.
Sofys exams are graded hard and for no reason. What I have learned is if you don't pass the midterm, you probably wont pass the final and have to take the class again in the spring. Good luck, IA are hit and miss and are only nice on grading if they want to be. Bu121 is definitely easier.
Needs SA training ASAP. Makes inappropriate comments about students frequently and doesn't seem to realize her unprofessionalism. Easy class if you can memorize but boring, repetitive lectures.
often makes offhanded sexist/weird comments. offers zero grace to her students, expects you to hand in assignments well before the due date so if theres tech issues when you are submitting on the due date and cant get it in on time, its your own fault and you get a zero. acts like a high school teacher. mostly big assignments worth 15+% of ur grade
sorta pretty terrible
Pretty good prof relative to the things I've heard about her. Goes through a good amount of material that's properly spaced out, but the course is just hard in general and is the main focus of first year BBA/Econ, so understanding is pretty key.
Terrible. Rude and goes on power trips.
Honestly thought this class was going to be harder. Very basic concepts that aren't hard to memorize just learn how to apply the knowledge and easy 80+ on the exams. Group projects can be very annoying if you get into a bad group. If you're not a math person make sure to focus on TVM. Lots of bonus marks that are worth doing.
BU111 was so overhyped. go to lecture, memorize the "key words" and have common sense and its super easy! Sofy was by far my best prof so far this year (I'm a DD student). What you put in to this course is what you'll get out (sometimes that means carrying a group project) so work hard and you'll do well.
Sofy is an excellent professor whose teaching style is easy to understand. While she is a tough grader, once you put in the effort yourself to understand and review the material while getting all possible bonus marks, you should be good to go. Your group project marks depend on whether your group members are good or bad.
She needs Andrew Tate. Don't cancel the dude, TopG everyday allday.
Professor Sofy has great lectures in my opinion. She speaks a bit fast, however, her lectures always kept me engaged and this was one of the few classes I actually attended. If you want a good mark on the midterm and exam, go to all her lectures, pay attention and take good notes. I would also recommend going to all the SI sessions and SOS reviews.
She is a good prof overall, her lectures are easy to follow. Never used the book, slides are enough. A lot of group assignment marks, given by the IA which can be unfair depending upon your IA or group members. Still very difficult grading for no reason, as if the course is meant for students to fail. Otherwise she is a good prof
My favourite prof so far, but this is also the hardest class I've taken by far. Had to put in double the effort for a significantly lower grade. She's very strict but it's to help us build the required skills and her lectures are engaging. IAs are very hit and miss and the exams are graded unnessecarily hard imo but she's overall great at her job.
She is extremely harsh and strict. She gives no tolerance for any mistakes even if it's not your fault. My full marks weren't even uploaded to loris and I told her about it but apparently it was my fault because I didn't contact her sooner.
Spends the beginning of every lecture promoting JDCC. Guilt trips you for not paying for certain things (PSAP, SOS, feedback sessions). Makes rude remarks about things she doesn't have the right to critique (about the parenting styles of students). Extremely vague marking criteria so you don't know where you went wrong.
Doesn't care about the class or students
she is a good professor and is overhated
Rude and wants to see u suffer. still the worst prof ive had throughout my years at laurier
Highly suggest attending lecture and keeping up with slideshows posted. Class can be difficult since its intended to weed out 1st year students. Sofy expands on content in lecture to better understand concepts that is not posted on MyLS.
better then the other laurier business teachers at least
Sofy's BU111 class can be tough, but engaging with the material pays off. Attendance is key, and using resources like Unstuck study alongside the textbook can really help. Not an easy A, but worth taking.
Going to every lecture will get you a good grade
Sofy is a great professor. The course has a lot of content and a lot of work but sofy has a clear passion for this course and is very knowledgeable on everything she teaches. She explains things and uses many examples to help you understand. The work is tough, the marking is tough but she is a good prof.
Some topics in this course can last 1-2 lectures or 4-5 lectures, depending on the topic. The midterm was WAY harder than the final, although I also prepared differently for the final so maybe that's why. The labs are fine, just talk a lot so you are placed in good group projects. Overall, Sofy was a good professor, she likes Apple and Starbucks.
The most boring and unengaging lectures i've attended in first year. Attendance wasn't mandatory but it might as well have been since everything important for the exam she only says in lectures. On the positive side, I did appreciate the bonus mark opportunities we had and going through the live case was a good experience overall.
Overall was a very hard course. Some of the lectures got pretty boring and I found myself getting distracted during them. I did like the presentations though, and those helped me learn the most. Marks are distributed fairly, so you have a chance to get some makes back if you do bad on one thing.
BU111 is definitely a weed-out course for 1st year students. Midterm is marked harshly, but you learn how to study afterwards for the final. Around 40% of your grade is entirely dependent on the two groups you get put into (CIIP and Livecase). If your groups are terrible, you will get cooked unfortunately. Do all bonus marks!
Must go to lectures and engage yourself and will do well. Go to SI for help, group projects matter most. If you properly understand the content the midterm and exam aren't hard and are worth as much as the group projects. Exam content is on the lectures so go!!!
Awesome Professor! And for people in the BBA program, these skills are great to learn and you will utilize them in the long run. Sofy is super kind but I recommend you go to all lectures and SI sessions.
This professor definitely knew what she was talking about and especially good at conveying information to the students, going to lecture regularly was very helpful and will definitely help succeed in this class. Lectures sometimes dragged on at times but lecture content was very useful. Midterm and Final aren't bad if you are prepared.
Sofy is fantastic and teaches very effectively. Her passion for teaching and business is evident and she is extremely knowledgeable about pretty much anything. Dedicated and wants you to succeed; had 1-on-1 office hours with her for 2 hours teaching me TVM until I understood it, but the course is a lot of work and TA's are really tough graders
sofy is a great lecturer. the information u need to know for any course evaluations (midterm and final) will be covered in her lectures so make sure to go to them. the graders are really tough though.
Frustrating course to say the least. A large portion of your mark is dependent on group projects so if you get unlucky with bad partners, your grade will be bad. They mark the midterm and final way too hard for a 1st year course. I understand the idea of weeding out people, but still, it's ridiculous.
Sofy flat-out sucks, nothing else to it. Bad lectures, does not care about you. Will not give any additional time no matter what. Too much content that isn't very useful. Marks way too hard and takes this first-year class way too seriously.
Very smart woman, she is incredibly knowledgeable about her feild and that is made clear in lecture. Go to lecture. Group project heavy, your group will make or break your grade. Overall good, overhyped difficulty, just go to class and study hard you will do good.
Sofy is an amazing professor. Group projects are worth a significant weighting of the course so I recommend working hard on those. As for the midterm and exam, it's very application based so do the questions at the end of her lecture slides after class and review content consistently throughout the course.
She takes this class way too seriously and puts a lot of pressure on first years. Super intimidating, but her lectures made sense, even though they seemed like common sense. IA's mark insanely hard in this class since its meant to weed out first-years. A lot of extra bonus marks available so do them all!
I LOVE HER. She wasn't even my prof but I attended all of her lectures. She makes all of her lectures so interesting. Despite this being such a hard course, she made it interesting and bearable. She is also easy to talk to and I loved talking to her about my future plans in my career because she has so many wise things to say. Great person and prof
Sofy was a great prof - her lectures were engaging for the most part and I enjoyed attending them. The course itself is difficult but as long as you stay on top of your work, you should be alright. Grading depends on your IA so hope for the best. Lots of memorizing for midterms and exams, and a lot of group work so pray for good members.
Absolutely not taking again.
Sofy is a good prof who knows what she is talking about, however the workload is heavy and grading is tough.
Knows what she's talking about, classes are decently engaging. she was generally supportive with students as far as i know. the course itself is designed to be hard, but lectures aren't difficult by any means. not recorded so you do have to go or risk just reading the slides and missing out. midterm/final were easy if you paid attention and studied
It's impossible to do well if your in his class expect a bad grade
The course design is bs. If you get a group who doesn't know what they're doing you automatically get a bad grade. Short answer questions are marked so subjectively, you can say the right answer but still get it wrong because it's not the specific answer they're looking for. Designed to make you do bad.
The course is hard especially because it's meant to kick out the people who got in but aren't ready for university. High school level understanding of business will help also go to si every week no matter what.
I think a lot of people get confused between Professor Sofy and the course, BU111. Sofy is an engaging and fun professor and is clearly intelligent in the mind of business. Her lectures engage you and ask you to think about what she is really trying to say. The course, BU111, is a very difficult course and depends a lot on group collaboration.
Professor is really good at explaining and improves your understanding drastically. It's the class that sucks, its grading is subjective, there is never ending work, and group projects are graded together so if your group mates sucks there's nothing you can do about it. One positive is bonus mark opportunities.
Horrible, brags about designing the course like it isn't the most poorly designed course I've seen. If ur groups are horrible good luck with ur grade, prof doesn't care, you'll have to do an entire 4-5 person project urself. Labs cover content after u need it for assignments. Poorly designed course with a prof who can care less about u or ur grade.
Sofy was very nice in the limited interactions I had with her, although the course is very hard. If your not good at group projects this will be a tough course, midterm and final were hard and marked hard. Honestly pretty interesting stuff although the labs are useless.
Sofy is very good at explaining things and her lectures are always engaging. Spend lots of effort on the group projects, as marking is a little bit harsh on them
She was a good professor and often some things she would say in lectures would pop up in multiple choice on exams. I feel like everyone always hypes up how difficult this class is but i feel like it wasn't that bad as long as you do the work (there is a lot though). For exams I would just memorize all the slides and that really worked for me.
