If I could have chosen Hamirani for both Financial and Managerial Accounting I would have. He doesnt just prepare you to answer exam questions, he helps you solidify the concepts in a way that builds an incredible foundation for both finance and accounting classes. He gives great feedback and is incredibly accessible. He is the best Professor @SMU

Easily the best Professor at SMU Cox. The level of difficulty (3) is attributed only to the course, not the Professor. Prof Hamirani is an expert in his field, he’s a CFO as well as an adjunct and teaches at two universities. If you attend every lecture and review, you’ll not only do well in the class, you will also become a capable accountant.

Sohail is already a legendary professor at Cox. Gives you 100% of what you need to know on exams, it’s solely up to you to study the material and do well. He responds to texts outside of class, and despite being a CFO, he prioritizes his students. The class is hard, but Sohail makes it as easy as he possibly can.

He has been the BEST teacher I've ever had. I would highly recommend taking him. He cares about his students' success and devotes his time to help them succeed: review sessions and extra practice on Sundays. He uses examples to apply what we learn in class to real life, and he shares lots of real-world applications due to his position as a CFO.

He gives you concepts in a holistic understanding so you know why you're even learning all this stuff. He doesn't curve but gives extra credit. Go to office hours and review sessions they help sm. Professor H is one of my favorite professors at SMU! He put a lot of time into making note packets so you don't have to read 80 page chapters. He holds a lot of office hours and is very available for help. Intermediate I is a hard class, but he makes it an enjoyable class to attend. He even brought the class cookies! Can't recommend him enough! :)

Best Cox professor I've had. Such genuine care and dedication for his students, putting in his Sundays for office hours and available for text and additional office hours before exams to help. Very accessible and kind. I feel tremendous growth in my learning after being one of his students. Don't get me wrong, the class is hard but worth it.

Every Intermediate Accounting class will be a pain to take and there is no getting around it. However, Hamirani really puts in a lot of effort in meeting with everyone to see how they are doing. He gives some extra credit for you to earn if you so choose, which is invaluable on tests. Not easy but it's the best you'll get for this tough subject.

Professor H is hands down the best professor I have experienced in my college career. He taught the hardest class in the business school but teaches it in a way that is enjoyable and beneficial. If you are looking for a professor that is there for you 24/7 to help you learn this is your guy. You better be ready to work hard, but if you will succeed

Professor Hamirani is an amazing teacher, I've never had a teacher that cared about their students to the extent he does - he's frequently available outside of class to help students with material. Many consider Intermediate I to be the one of the hardest if not the hardest course in Cox, but Professor Hamirani tries his best to mediate the pain. He cares for students because he was once a student at Cox as well. Take him if you get the chance.

He is available a ton outside of class, given that he is a CFO of a company speaks measures to how important teaching is to him and making himself available all the time. Int Acct. 1 is the hardest class at SMU, but Professor does well with helping students learn material.

Hamirani was amazing for Intermediate. The material was difficult but he teaches it in a concise and easy way to understand. His notes are AMAZING, literally condenses 80 pages of reading into just like 15-20. Make sure to read them super carefully for the quizzes since they are already very condensed! He is super caring and wants you to do well!

Great professor!! Really cares about his students. Class time is used really well and class notes are helpful. He can explain complex ideas extremely well and break them down for people who don't have experience with accounting. This was managerial accounting and learning things about the internal workings of the business was interesting/helpful.

Sohail was an amazing professor. I took his ACCT 2302 course and will be taking him for intermediate accounting as well. He doesn't use a textbook, just gives a notes packet with everything you will need to know for the quizzes and exams. He's super caring and wants to help. Also offers extra credit for each exam.

Professor Hamirani is a CFO and SMU alum who cares about his students. He provides notes packets in lieu of a textbook, and condenses concepts into 15-20 pages. Practice exams/quizzes are provided, if you study those you do well on the exams. Prof is very accessible after class and genuinely wants us all to succeed!

Professor Hamirani is really nice and wants everyone to do well in the class. He sometimes has a hard time explaining concepts to the class and speeds through examples during lectures. You can tell he's newer to teaching and relies on intuition to teach at times. Tests and quizzes aren't too hard, but he can grade written questions tough.

Yes, this course is hard but there is no other teacher I would rather have than Sohail. He beats any of the other ACCT teachers at SMU. Sohail does care about his students and has unlimited office hours. He takes his Sunday's off to review before tests.

This guy is one of the best accounting professors at SMU. Intermediate accounting is tough, but he makes the class manageable. No homework, 5 exams, 4 quizzes, and 2 projects. He also teaches how to read real-world financial statements, which is super cool. You must put in the effort to get an A, but Sohail 100% wants all his students to succeed.

It is a tough class due to the volume of information in such short time, but he made it so manageable because of the commitment he has to students with the notes packets he created and the number of office hours he offers. He brings in such valuable real-world examples with his career experience and it's obvious the passion he has for teaching.

He is an amazing professor who really cares about his students. There are lots of tests but each only contains one unit. There is only like one to two homeworks per unit. The class moves pretty fast so go to class and pay attention. Reviews and homework problems in the packet are really good to study for tests. TAKE HIM!!!

Really great professor. I loved his teaching style, which consisted of filling out the note packets and practice problems during class. There were 6 quizzes throughout the semester instead of the generic 2 huge tests which I really liked. He is always willing to help and has plenty of office hours. All around really nice professor and great class.

I'm not going to repeat everything that's already been said about Professor Hamirani, but I will offer some advice for incoming students. 1. Don't sleep on quizzes, they can seriously hurt/help your grade 2. Do every single practice problem and question. You can't expect to do well just by doing the practice test. 3. GO TO OFFICE HOURS.

Sohail is extremely kind and involved. He wants to do everything he can to help his students and is more than willing to take extra time, respond quickly, and accommodate needs. His lectures are engaging as he uses follow-along packets and weaves in tons of real-world experience. Definitely take him while at SMU, challenging but super worth it!

So far my favorite professor in the program. Strong EQ and IQ. Clearly cares for his students, uses "real life" examples, and supportive in and out of class. I don't love Accounting, but I highly recommend this class and professor.

Best accounting professor at SMU by far. Intermediate accounting 1 is a difficult class, especially as a summer course but he made it very doable. Teaching is not his full time job, he does it because it's his passion and he loves it and you can tell by his dedication to his students. The class is hard no matter who teaches it but he's awesome

I did not do well in Intermediate Accounting but he is a great guy. Only complaint is that he acts like his tests are just like the study guides but he always manages to spin things way harder.

I loved taking Professor Hamirani. He is one of the most qualified Cox professors and although he makes the course challenging, he really wants you to succeed. I would recommend studying a lot for the exams and making sure you get good grades on the hw. Also, he takes the participation grade seriously. Take him!

Loved this professor! I deserved a B+ in the class, but he rounded me to an A- solely because of how hard I tried and how often I showed up to office hours. I liked the class style, as it was super interactive. You filled out notes he printed for you and did tons practice problems, which was super helpful for the exams. Overall, 10/10 experience

Professor Hamirani is a great professor for Intermediate Accounting 1. The class is very tough and requires a lot of work to succeed but he provides great note packets that are helpful for studying and plenty of practice problems to work before the exams. Exams can be tricky so do as much of the extra practice as possible.

Hard class no matter what but Sohail wants you to succeed. He is always available and has ample extra credit to help you get a good grade. Study nightly as you cannot cram for this class. The 5 exams makes it easier to comeback if you bomb one. Group project that was easy if you just put in work. Very rewarding class, you get out what you put in!

Intermediate is an incredibly hard class, but Sohail does everything to support you and wants you to succed. Incredibly caring, tons of office hours, great lectures with interesting and valuable explanations, provides extra credit for tests, and lets you replace the lowest test w/ final. There are 5 tests so it's a LOT of work, but it's very doable

Intermediate I is a very hard class, but I loved learning under Sohail. He is adjunct and very impressive -- works as a CFO at Mohr Partners and still gets our tests back in 3 days (5 exams + a final). You learn so much and he really cares and wants to help. The content is hard, but he doesn't have control over that. I highly recommend!

Professor Hamirani is my favorite professor I've ever had! This is notoriously the hardest class in the business school, but Sohail made it bearable. I loved his teaching style and his many office hours were so helpful. He really believed in me, even when I really struggled! He also rounded me up a LOT because he saw how hard I tried!

Prof's super nice, but class was a massive pain in the butt. Test is way trickier than the practice material, and he will pull specific ?s from one sentence in his 30+ pg lecture packet. 5 tests may let you "bounce back" from bad grades, but it means tests almost every other week which gave me no time to breathe. At least extra credit was generous!

He was super transparent with grading, expectations, and how hard every exam would be. We had many extra credit opportunities and as long as you truly tried he gave credit. This is the hardest class I've taken, likely the hardest I will take at SMU. Broke my 4.0 actually. My biggest issue with Hammy is that while he does his best to teach such a huge amount of content (and he does this well), he seems intent on going beyond what he teaches in the exams. If you are taking intermediate accounting in the spring you will have him so better off taking him for managerial so you can get use to exam style.

One of my favorite MBA professor's. Lots of material is covered with real world examples. Great notes, guest speakers and activities. 2.5 hours go by fast. Be aware of weekly quizzes but they help you stay on top of material. Take him!

This is one of the hardest classes at Cox, but I learned so much. This class also helped me in my internship and made me stand out from my intern class. Hamirani is so helpful & transparent. This class is no joke, but ended up being one of my favorite classes. Get ready to work harder than you ever have, but it will be so beneficial.

Managerial is really not a hard class, it's just a combination of accounting and algebra. Attend the lectures and do the test review packets and you'll be fine. There's usually also a 2-3 point extra credit. He wants to see you succeed so just show him that you are putting in the effort

You might be looking at this because you didn't get LHR and you're worried about managerial. You'll be just fine with Sohail. He's a great lecturer, explains things well, and walks through tons of examples. This class is much easier than financial. Homework is light (one homework per chapter), and tests have lots of partial credit.

He is a good instructor, and honestly, the reason I didn't like the class was that I didn't enjoy accounting as a subject. However, he is arguably a great alternative to LHR. While LHR offers more straightforward tests, Hamirani really does care about his students. I thought I was going to get a C in the class, but I ended up with a B!

His class was enjoyable since he tries to make the course material relevant to the real business world. You can earn extra credit for each test.

This class was difficult, but you definitely learned a lot. He uses a lot of really good real-world examples that help concepts fall into place. The homework is difficult, but the TA and him will check it for you during office hours so that you can get it correct. There is also a lot of extra credit for tests.

Prof H is an excellent Intermediate (and Managerial) professor. Accounting/finance majors should take both classes with him - Managerial tests prep you for Intermediate. He uses custom packets from the textbook and real-world examples. Attend office hours to show effort. Tests are hard, but reviews are pretty similar to the test. Highly recommend!

Professor Sohail's class is definitely challenging, but he works hard to make the material clear and engaging. He gives homework packets, uses Gleim for practice, and offers plenty of extra credit. He's extremely understanding, always available after class, and truly wants his students to succeed. Great professor and very supportive!

So much to learn in 3 months. The amount of material makes this class hard, but he does his best to make it relatable. You do walk away learning how to read a 10K. Take him if you want to learn otherwise find someone easier if you just want the grade.

Looks like someone's a bit salty about their grade and is posting nonstop. I've taken both his classes and TA'd for him. He builds his packets off the book so it's way more efficient. His real-world experience actually makes things click. This is Cox you earn your A here. He will help if you reach out early enough.

Take him. I am at a finance internship this summer and am using everything taught in this class. His business world experience really helps. I am literally standing out at this internship because of this class.

One of the best professors I've had! I took Intermediate Accounting over the summer and not only was the class super engaging, but I'm already using what I learned in my internship (like revenue recognition and allowance for doubtful accounts). Highly recommend!

Intermediate is just a very challenging class and you are tested like you would be tested on the CPA exam at times which can be difficult especially if you are not planning to take the CPA. Do all of the chapter homeworks before the next chapter otherwise it is really hard to catch up and do well.

Your grade will really come down to how you do on you tests. If you spend a while studying, you will do fine. His partial credit is biased but overall decent to work with. Offers a few extra credit points per test so be there for review day.
