Great Prof, really funny and keeps the class involved. Tests are fair. Definitely would recommend him for Introductory Stats
Stats is my favourite class, not because I'm a math person because he is my favourite teacher.Always has alot of jokes and stories that keeps the class laughing. He keeps the class involved by asking questions and he explains the material so it is clear.Just go to class and do the practice questions and you'll be fine.Definetly reccomended.
Professor Khan is an amazing prof! He may be hard to understand at times, but he just makes a joke when he pronounces words wrong! But overall he is very understandable and his notes are extremely organized and explain things so well! His tests are not tricky as long as you know your stuff and attend the class cuz he gives hints for the tests!
Professor Khan is funny and makes the course material easier to understand. I know lots of people who have had to take Stats multiple times, but I passed on the first attempt, and I have Professor Khan to thank for that!
Pretty funny guy. Has an accent but you can still understand him. Gives good examples and the tests are fair. Just do the examples he gives in his notes and study. You can do textbook q's too if you want but it's not necessary.
A very approachable prof and easy to talk to if you have questions (in and out of class). Won't give questions that you won't be able to answer. We barely used the textbook, and we were fine. Highly recommended!
He is a very good prof. He makes everything and anything clear he doesn't leave anything without making sure you understand. Anyone can get his point with good examples. Highly recommend
GREAT TEACHER!
This professor is very helpful, explains concepts clearly, and entertains the class with jokes. Very good statistics prof! Term tests and exams are straight forward and easy given you came to class. Textbook use wasnt that high. Highly recommened
My Favourite Professor! He is funny, thorough in explaining material, involves students in discussions, fair in marking, friendly, and fun.
the greatest teacher. easy to understand and makes sure you understand it by always asking questions to the students. He knows his math very well and wants everyone to pass it so hes always there if you ever need him.
Very good prof, very straight forward, very willing to help you get the best grade. Tries to make class interesting with jokes and stories. Practice problems provided online, textbook would be a waste of money. A lot of in-class explanations and examples, attendance would definitely help towards a good grade. Would definitely recommend.
Very helpful professor, works hard to repeat and ensure understanding and comprehension by class. Excellent use of in-class problems and reviews to confirm understanding. Good, clear presentation of concepts with enough variations to succeed beyond rote memorization of formulas.
If you have a hard time with stats, this is a good professor to help you out! He took the time to explain things and he also does an awesome job teaching the course! I would recommend anyone to be in his class.
Great teacher. explains things thoroughly and makes it easy to get a decent mark.
Amazing professor! Makes the course extremely easy and explains everything very thoroughly.Very tough final but term tests are easy. Highly recommend! All notes are posted online but attend class, its very helpful.
Great prof! I think people generally get worried when they have a prof with an accent but it really wasn't an issue and he acknowledges it. Super helpful with clarification of concepts. Tests were okay but the final is extremely difficult so prepare well for that. Tells great jokes too to break up the sometimes boring math lectures
A great professor that gives very careful and clear lectures on the material. Always explains concepts in more than one way for better understanding. He is also a nice guy and provides additional help if needed. There were no assignments and the testing was quite fair. Success will be had if you prepare well for the exams.
very clear professor. made stats incredibly easy. i didn't understand why people complain so much about stats because it is very easy. it's more easy than pre cal. his jokes arent funny though, but he tries.
Although it was his first time teaching computer stats, I would recommend any other course with him except that one. This particular class had little direction, and requires a lot of time and effort to get through assignments. He does his best to help. Be sure to go to the lectures and get his handouts, otherwise you will fail.
I swear, Sohail could pull off to be a stand up comedian. Halarious man and great lectures. He mixes content and comedy for student to remember it for the long run. Would definitely take another class with him, "What you tink?"
Great professor! Very willing to help students during office hours. Difficult to understand at times but will specify if you can't understand. Didn't really use the textbook but it was helpful to go over questions for the exams. Would definitely recommend taking any of his courses.
To be fair, I didn't work as hard as I should have and so didn't get the mark I wanted. Still, I found that the course could ramp in difficulty really quickly, and the majority of the class stayed for the full time allowed on both midterms (and that's writing as fast as possible). Sohail can be funny, but I really didn't enjoy my time with him.
Khan is a very funny guy. Teaching he is very clear for having such a thick accent and uses lots of examples. Tests are very long but have a very fair marking philosophy. Show up to class, participate and you will do well in his class.
A little hard to understand at first, but after a couple classes you get use to his voice, hes funny af, keeps things interesting, so all you guys with short attention spans could benefit from him. Liked his class a lot, no regrets taking class with him
i LOVED this prof. he made stats my favourite class. he was absolutley hilarious and such a good guy. he was so thorough about the material and would go so in depth when explaining it i couldnt have asked for a better math teacher, and the twist he puts on his accent makes it even better. would totally take a class with him again and recommend him!
Sohail ridicules people when they ask questions (in and out of class) and he always seems annoyed when I meet him during his office hours. Sohail is hard to approach as he makes students feel so inferior and uncomfortable.
Confusing explanations; keeps repeating himself; not helpful at all and sometimes even refusing to help, saying to just look at the notes. Don't bother asking questions because Sohail isn't caring or respectful in his answers towards students.
Khan was an incredible prof, He was hilarious and made a course as bland as stats enjoyable. His exams were tough, but very fair. He provides any materials needed for the course so buying the textbook for his class is a waste. Overall, I'd take any class he teaches
Amazing prof. Hilarious. Class is mandatory. You will be lost if you don't attend class. His students really respect him. NO cellphones or talking to friends during class. Sohail will expect you to participate in class lectures. Highly recommend taking any class with him
The lectures were funny and interesting as most people said, but his office hour was the worst. He started to explain without finishing listening to my question but he didn't understand me at all. He does not allow anyone to question ("disrespect") him; if you do it, he would attack you personally. I would avoid him in higher level stat courses.
He is not approachable and not willing to answer questions. The tests and exam are heavy and he is a tough marker. Lectures are unorganized and not well prepared.
GO TO CLASS. I missed one class and was lost for the next 2 chapters. He also expects students to participate and will force you to answer questions during lectures. I found the tests to be much harder than what was taught and he was not generous with giving marks. He is funny, but the class itself can be difficult to follow.
Loved him! Funniest prof, actually looked forward to his class. On top of that, he made sure everyone in class understood all the material and explained concepts so well. No need for text, but go to class as he doesn't post answers to lecture examples. You may be called out to answer qs at random, but he never gets mad if you don't know the answer.
Don't take this class if math is not your thing. He says he's open to question but then when you ask he gets frustrated. I took it over the summer and the course is EXTREMELY fast paced and hard to follow. His exams are way more difficult then the practice problems provided in class. Missing class is not an option.
Khan was very entertaining during class time and was good at thoroughly explaining concepts. However, if you did not understand the concepts from what he taught and tried to ask questions, he was not very open to it at times. You must attend each class to succeed as he covers a lot per lecture.
He's teaching might be okay to some people but it just isn't it for me. He mixes so many stuffs up. Seems too angry all the time and gets mad at you for wanting to know. I lost interest in this class, should have checked his rating before choosing to attend
I loved Sohail, he's funny and he makes the material easy to understand. He's a hardass when it comes to using phones or talking in class, but that's fine by me. He also provides all the material for the course, so there's no need to buy the text which is a plus in my books. The course itself is easy compared to high school pre-calculus.
A gem. Hilarious lecturer and i very much recommend you go to class. He works through problems in class and will explain things in multiple ways so that it sticks. Accessible outside of class and a genuinely caring guy. I am not statistically or math inclined at all but taking his class made me consider it for the first time!
Best prof I've had at University so far. He is hilarious, and explains everything in a way that helps you understand right away. He also does lots of examples to make sure you know what you're doing. Makes class engaging so you stay focused. Doesn't assign homework. Would take another class taught by him.
He will call you out in class to make sure you are paying attention but he explains the concepts fairly clearly in class.
I have tried to understand Khan's teaching methods but I just don't. He makes mistakes constantly, mixes up what he is saying, skips over concepts and expects students to know far more than what is lectured during class for tests. After trying to receive help he does not generally respond to emails or care about the success of his students.
I found Khan to be great! I took him in winter 2020, he kept his lectures entertaining & engaging for sure, with choosing students at random to answer his questions (I chose not to make eye contact lol) He was a great prof for Biostats and I'd definitely recommend him!!
Omg , most of the professors appericiate of we give answers to their questions. But Sohail Khan is not one of them, it happened with me like all the students just quite and i was answering the questions and he told me I did not ask you. If you will answer all the questions what will the rest of students do. Like seriously????
Signed up to take BIO STATS1501?? Change your professor right now and run. Had an awful experience with him. Calls his students out and is very picky; But don't ask too many questions, or else he gets frustrated! Language barrier was awful. Its like calling customer service and wanting to talk to someone who actually speaks English. Just awful...
I think he's a great teacher! I liked how he didn't rely on the textbook and always gave us practice problems. He made the class enjoyable, loved his humour! The only scary thing is that for in person class he calls on random people... avoid eye contact lol.
I really enjoyed taking Sohail's class. I found him to be very good at explaining concepts in a way that was realistic and i appreciated his humor. He does call on you for answering conceptual questions, but I felt this always acted as a way to reinforce students learning. I enjoyed his teaching style very much. Bonus is textbook is not necessary.
Guys a joke. Would steer the other way and take the class with another professor if you can. He freaks out if you dont answer one of his shout outs correctly but constantly mixes numbers and his answers. Nvm you use some Vedic math and he freaks out and takes marks off (this could be the TA tho) like cmon Vedic math originated from India!
A great prof that cares about his students, attendance is mandatory as he does not put everything on the slides. Will often call you out in class to make sure you understand the concept and are paying attention. Textbook is not a requirement but good for practice questions.
The math itself isn't hard but he is very concept heavy. Instead of answering some questions he refers you back to the class videos which is not helpful at times.
I had a good experience with him online this past 2021 winter semester. You really gotta put in the work to do well, I personally barely read the textbook but I came out with a B! His lectures were pre-recorded which really helped me. He hosted online help sessions, ATTEND THEM they are really beneficial. Overall had a good experience.
would not recommend. you ask questions and he either doesnt answer clearly or gets upset that you dont know the material. the recorded lectures seem to be years ago.
The thing I disliked most about his class was how there are only 3 tests - 2 25% and 1 50% exam. However, each of these have very minimal questions, each question is worth a big chunk of final grade. I wish there was either more Qs on tests or extra HW to make up for it. Not helpful for answering questions, however lectures were detailed
If you're taking this course be prepared to take multiple choice exams for a stats course. Course outline was 2 multiple tests worth 25% each, and a final exam worth 50% have fun knowing 1 click equals 1.25 of your grade on the final exam.
Professor Khan was one of my favourite profs all year. His lecture videos are clearly pre recorded from a long time ago and get dull, but if you put in the effort and show up to his weekly help sessions whenever you can, you'll do fine in his class. The material itself isn't that difficult as long as you have half decent math skills.
He is a really great professor. The only issue I had was that he cold calls on people during lecutre to answerr questions, but if you are actively engaged you should do fine. I am not good at math, but he made it make sense, which is very uncommon in math professors. The assignments can be a bit tedious but they are not that hard.
He explains his lectures pretty well and gives a lot of homework ahead of time to study but when it comes to the tests, his questions never matched his examples/ homework. Some of the questions were difficult to calculate as he did not have a similar questions on his practice slides or any of the homework.
Took this course back in Winter 2021, online so it was lecture heavy. Textbook was useful for practice problems. Course wasn't too difficult as long as you understand the concepts. He's pretty funny and made me laugh during recorded lectures. Once a week he had review sessions which were very helpful. Would take a class with again.
Had him for an online class, but his lectures were one hour long and pointless. Doesn't explain material properly, and puts in little to no effort. Didn't even have the answers to the textbook, had to switch to a different professor one month into the course. Does not review material properly and mostly reads off a power point presentation.
Amazing professor, he makes sure that everyone understands the topic, concept etc.. He repeats calculations and explanations if students are unsure and he's funny:)
If you are taking online course, I would say go for it. His lectures are very precise and clear and he will repeat important concepts again and again to make us understand. If you have to get scores get focus on his concepts and notes. No need to ref text book. Exams are little tough but if you are good with concepts then it would be easy.
only prof ive had that calls on students, the content isnt difficult but he puts you on the spot. assignments and term tests werent the hardest thing ever but the final is weighed 50%. his replies via email arent helpful and not accessible
He picks on random students to answer questions and basically humiliates you if you get the question wrong by saying, "I'm worried for you if you don't know the answer". If you ask a question in class, he never properly answers it because "you should know that already" and makes you feel stupid. He also calls you out if you're on your phone.
Absolutely mandatory to attend the lectures the slides arent helpful on their own Explains stuff well if you pay attention Cold calls often on the same people it was stressful being one of them If you dont know the answer he may or may not be upset Every mark on the tests worth a lot leaving no room for mistakes Didn't use the textbook Very funny
Great prof, super nice, will pick on you so be prepared. As long as you pay attention, questions are not hard (lectures and exams). Funny, cares about students, snarky at times but its not personal. No phones. No engagement with other classmates. Tests are appropriate, no surprises. Lectures are a MUST, slides are (well) explained in lectures.
if I was looking for a good standup comedian, this guy would be first on my list
Overall impossible to met with and has Limited office hours and unhelpful even in them. Detailed questions are fine but his multiple-choice are horrendous and are just a guessing game at the end of days. Overall is understands the topic but does that care about his students and is to lazy to met with me during a 12 week term.
Absolutely loved Professor Khan for STAT-1501! One of the best profs I've had, so I don't understand some of the negative reviews. He is so hilarious and kind, and explains concepts clearly. He calls on people in class so make sure you're paying attention, but he's understanding if you get the answer wrong. Would 1000% recommend
Actually covers the material thoroughly but choked on the last few topics
Great Prof, covers all the topics in the class until everyone gets it. You have to attend every class, to get good grades.
Professor Khan is one of the most caring professors I've had. He gives you the recipe to succeed in his course, and if you follow it, you'll end up with a great grade. Make sure to attend his review sessions before exams, they're really helpful. Also, he's a jokester, so be prepared for dad jokes.
He was a good professor. He is very open to you asking questions but makes you feel dumb once you ask the question. very funny and entertaining. Had a hard time understanding his way of teaching this course even if I tried to learn outside of class.
Sohail was a great professor and made the practice questions very similar to exam questions. He was very funny in class and made it entertaining- I looked forward to attending his lectures. If you apply yourself enough this is a very easy course taken with Sohail.
He will ask questions in class and put you on the spot. You must attend lectures and take notes in order to pass. Sometimes moves to fast but usually provides clear instruction in lectures. His class can feel uncomfortable as he will call you out and it is sometimes uncalled for.
I wanna start this off by saying, Professor Sohail Khan knows his field extremely well - He just doesn't know how to TEACH IT. I took this course first year in person, and have had to retake it twice since. He is unhelpful and does not care about anyone's circumstances. Please, avoid this professor if you can. I am now taking the course at UofM.
Professor Khan was great! I'm not good at math by any means, but he made this so much more bearable. He does call on random students for answers, but isn't mean if you get it wrong. I found it helpful because the fear of being called on made me try harder and pay attention. He does not tolerate phone usage or chatting and will call students out!
Its extremely tough to understand his classes
Overall great Professor. Had him for first year stats and I could not have asked for a better professor to introduce me to statistics. He tells amazing and hilarious stories in lecture that make materials easy to remember. Overall great professor that provides plenty of help before exams and tons of practice materials.
I would rather eat toenails than take his class!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im convinced all good reviews are paid actors because I put so much work in just to flop
I have never wanted to drop a class so bad until this class. Do not take this class unless you want to waste your time.
I thought he was caring and funny at first but when I unexpectedly got a bad grade on my midterm he promised to help me but never ended up giving me the time of day. Instead he judged me harshly saying "how did you mess up a two way table" and called the markers too generous despite being literally the only one in his class who showed him kindness.
One of the best profs in this uni, he genuinely cares if we understood the material and he will definitely call you out. A lot of ppl find him intimidating but he does that to ensure we understood the material. I would take this course again as he does examples in class which are on the mid terms/exams, and I would definitely take his class again.
I wish i knew that he taughts intro stats and 1000 level stats courses before i would have taken with him but this is my final term i am glad i took his course i am buisness student but want to do stats on the side he is the great one to take help with!!! Highly recommended!!!
honestly, as long as you go to lectures you'll do well. he goes slowly and explains everything clearly, and gives lots of examples. funny guy, cares a lot about his classes and his students and it shows.
Make sure you print all his notes and practice questions if you want to study the day of exams- he TAKES THEM DOWN so you can't study… he is also not educated at all and will not help at all and will just say “ you should know this already” rather than helping. very disrespectful and implies you are not smart for a wrong answer.
