She cares about students and her office hours are pretty helpful. Make sure you ask questions if you have confusion. The exam may be another level deepe than lecture questions. Make sure you understand the materials covered in the lecture well and it is not hard to get an A.
A teacher that cares for her students. Her lecture slides are clear and after every lesson she provides a step by step breakdown through an example and stops after every couple of slides to ask if we understand. Brings chocolates during exams. Books extra seminars during breaks for those who need it. Very clear and fair prof!
She truly does make statistics fantastic. Straightforward lectures, is there to help you, explains questions very clearly, truly wants her students to do well. Excellent professor!
Sohee is truly an awesome prof. and only wants you to do well. She gives ample opportunity for group related work (i.e., quizzes) that allow students to help each other. Her lectures are clear when she doesn't rush but may skip over some stuff when time is running low. If you go to lectures, read the textbook and do the problems, you'll do fine.
One of the best profs I've had so far. She teaches very clearly and her slides are very useful. She is definitely a kind prof who wants her students to do well. I would highly recommend taking this course or any course with her.
One of the best profs at UTSC. Obtaining a good grade is easy if you attend class and do the practice problems on a weekly basis. The midterm is really easy but the final is much more tricky so the key to getting a good grade would be to absolutely ace the midterm and leave room for a bad mark on the final. weekly quiz qs are taken from homework qs
Happy Happy??? Do you understand???? :D
Sohee is an amazing professor! I came to uni shocked because how much the profs dont care about you, but she takes time to make sure you understand the content, and makes time for seminars if youre struggling. Everything is clear: if you do the work, youll do well. She makes me like math and stats :) Statistic is fantastic!
I took STAB27 with Professor Kang last year and had a mixed experience. She's enthusiastic about statistics and very knowledgeable. However, since our class did well overall on the midterm, she put concepts on the final that we hadn't learned to bring down the overall average. Also, on many occasions, the TAs didn't answer emails from students.
Professor So-hee was the BEST INSTRUCTOR EVER!! Her lectures happened in a very good and fair pace, she was always checking if the students were keeping up with the class. She developed a course that was accessible to all types of students (those who had some knowledge on calculus and those who had never taken any calculus course).
cannot agree with her teaching style and exams are really hard
Great prof! Amazing lectures! Definitely would take courses with her again.
Instructor was very helpful when we needed help, and very clear she wanted the students to really have a good understanding of the material. it was a happy course.
Thank you, Sohee for teaching me Statistics! You are one of the best professors that I have had and your enthusiasm is contagious! As you said, "Statistic is FANTASTIC!"
I've honestly never had a better professor!!!
Amazing lectures!!
Wow that most recent comment is pretty disheartening, clearly they were having a bad day or something. To more ACCURATELY describe professor Kang, is that she's wholesome with her cute sayings. Despite the daunting subject, she was able to clearly explain the material. I am so grateful for her energetic teachings during these tough times!
There are lots of questions in exams and quizzes and don't have enough time to complete the questions.
Math in general isn't my strongest subject and I wouldn't say getting a B was easy, but with Professor Kang it was doable! Participation isn't mandatory, however, it was extra credit which was really useful at the end. Studying every week is mandatory however (there are weekly quizzes). THE AVERAGE SCORE FOR THE FINAL WAS A 50%... SO STUDY!!!!!
Statistic is fantastic!!! I love her class so much. Although attendance is non-mandatory, you would get bonus marks for it. Just listen to the lectures (without taking notes), you still can do well in her class. Quiz and Quizzical are super easy!!!
She explains concepts very well and ensures that a student has understood concepts. active learning in class and the use of technology as well is really helpful
Her STAC67 class made me feel 'Happy Happy' ;) More seriously, I wish she taught all upper year Stats course. She is the best statistics prof that I've had at UofT
Clearly explains concepts. Topics were organized in a logical manner. Objectives are clearly stated at the beginning of each lecture. She begins each lecture by recapping the last concept from the previous lecture. Very supportive of students. Good use of examples. Good use of stats software. Many opportunities to boost marks. Has sense of humour.
Profesor Kang is the best!!! I loved how Professor Kang is able to teach statistics in a simple and easytounderstand manner! For the first time, I was able to understand statistics!
Genuinely one of the sweetest teachers/profs I've ever had. Very easy to talk to and approach. As long as you read the text book lightly, and pay attention in the lectures you will do well
She's really an awesome professor. Had an online course with her and she was super funny and promoted class engagement. Her assignments are collaborative and easy. She puts coding questions on her exams, but the questions and solutions are identical to ones on her lecture slides.
Dr. Kang is super caring and her lectures are really helpful in understanding the content. Midterm and exams were fair (do lots of past exams and you're good) but I always felt I was running out of time so manage your time for sure. Take advantage of the opportunities she gives for bonus marks
Dr. Kang is really an awsome professor. Her lectures are well organized and she is really good at explanation. Her assignments, quizzes and exams are bit hard but still doable, and she curve the grade and provides a lot of extra credit for this course!
Wonderful professor
I almost failed STAB22. I took STAB27 with So Hee and let me tell you I am now minoring in statistics! As So Hee makes us shout during class - STATISTICS IS FANTASTIC!!!
She was really kind and caring!
Very good lecturer&supportive prof. She actually cares about students and wants us to succeed. She would waive some quizzes if we feel stressed, give lots of extra credits, and curve midterm/final by a great deal. Always available during office hours. (UNLIKE some other profs in the cms dept who would intentionally give students bad grades...
I wish lectures were organized better... slides were a bit messy too. Good lecturer. A bit hard to understand what she says sometimes due to her accent. I found the course content challenging near the end but intellectually stimulating. LOVED the final project (using R), good learning experience. FAIR midterm, HARD final exam haha.
Prof Kang was very expressive and made Statistics interesting and a little more enjoyable. She seemed to care about her students, and took time to explain and practice (!!) concepts in lecture. She also provided us with ample opportunity to get our grades up and develop understanding within the course.
STAB22 was my favourite course this semester. Professor Kang does a fantastic job of elucidating concepts in a way that is easy to understand, allowing for people with no prior knowledge to excel. All assignments were fair and I understood their practical implications. Overall, this course was excellent. I would recommend her to everyone!
She's the best. Clearly explains concepts and tells you questions that'll come in the exam. Go in person and be consistent. She does an amazing job at trying to make everyone do well. She gives the best possible conditions to do well. Be on top of things and you'll do well
she is a very good professor. I will recommend all of my friends to take her course.
Best prof ever had at UTSC. she tries to help students succeed and cares about student wellbeing. very approachable in-person for questions
"Right? Eazy peazy. Lemon squeezy"
Will definitely take another class with her again.
People giving anything below a 4 difficulty are liarrss, the average on the midterm was in the low 50's AFTER curving the marks and the final was 3x harder. But she gives lots of extra credit and curves marks like crzy which makes up for it. still an introductory STATS class should not have exams this difficult. Prof is really caring tho.
Very good professor. I didn't like the course in the beginning at all, but when I started to take things seriously, like going to office hours for example, the class became much better. She is always available for office hours. Her exams are very difficult, but if you care more about understanding the material, then this is a class for you.
Sohee is super kind and caring
She cares a lot about her students and always ensures to reflect on the assignments and exams to improve. The midterm and final especially did not go great but it was mostly due to her questions being harder to understand. The content itself is good and she covers mostly everything in lecture which is very engaging. Easy peasy, lemon sqeezy
I was so nervous about statistics, but I'm convinced half of my mark was earned solely because it was HER teaching the material. She explains concepts so clearly, any beginner to stats can understand. Although the final was definitely more challenging than I expected, she gives SO MANY opportunities to get bonus marks that it makes up for it.
The best professors. Quizzes and labs are easy, but midterms and finals are very hard. There will be huge curves, but don't take it lightly. Would absolutely go back to her class, in fact already took her B27 in winter.
Cares about students' marks and is VERY qualified to teach! She is super nice and gives many opportunities to get a higher mark.
Nice professor but teaching sucks. averages for exams low.
hard exams, teaching is ok but exams very difficult, sometimes can't understand what shes saying.....
nice lady, not good prof, says her exams are easy when the averages fall in the low 60's after bonus marks
STAC67 is a challenging course due its nature of the amount of content you would have to understand, but Sohee makes the course engaging and tries to learn the name of every student. She strongly encourages everyone to attend lectures for bonus marks, participate, and come to office hours. She also provides a lot of past exams and solutions.
Super sweet and great at explanation!
sweetest professor i've ever met. takes time to explain concepts clearly and very good at answering questions, especially in office hours. actually cares about students and their grades and does her best in providing bonus marks when she can! wish she could teach all my stats courses.
I don't understand all the hate comments here for Professor Kang, all seem to be posted by the same person on the same day?? She's very sweet and nice and tries her best to help students in her courses. Exams are not that hard as long as you study for it. Also open-book exam. She also curves a lot just to make sure students get decent grades.
Very nice lady, exams very easy
Exams are hard and she has errors in her past exam solutions, isn't active on piazza. Sometimes exam questions are hard to understand
Truly phenomenal prof, she is so passionate about teaching and clearly loves statistics. Exams are not bad, especially since she is so accessible after classes. Would love to take another course by her!!
final was brutal
This professor is one of the best professors at this university. She is truly passionate about her teaching and cares for her students. All concepts are explained well and her teaching style makes it fun to learn and listen to.
Prof is a really good explainer and is funny. Also curves a lot. As a first year who has never touched stats in their life, she explains really well although the course content is personally hard. I didn't do the best, but that's on me for studying last minute. People who took stats w/ other profs said their experience was terrible. Aim for Sohee.
Nice prof, good lectures, hard exams
I would definitely recommend taking a project course with Sohee for those who are interested in the field of statistics. She genuinely cares for her students and encourage them to gain hands-on experience by taking on real life projects. She is extremely accessible outside of class with quick email replies and always welcomes you to her office.
She has fun torturing students with difficult tests and exams.
Her midterm is very straightforward. She is a very nice professor. She provides a lot of material to study for midterm. She always cares about our mental health. One of the best professor in UT
She always motivates me to study with stories about her daughter. Before taking her class, I didn't even know what variance was. When I found her during office hours, she patiently tutored me and helped me progress in statistics. Her midterm exam was very straightforward, with no tough questions. My issue was not getting full marks. Best PF in UT
Why is there a 350-character limit for evaluating professors? 350 characters aren't enough to describe how amazing Sohee is!
Sohee spends a lot of time in each class reviewing the content from the previous lesson. After exams, she immediately checks in with students to ask about their experience. The TA is also very responsible and has compiled a lot of key materials.
Sohee was an incredible professor with such care for her students. I went to almost all her office hours and she did such an amazing job answering all my questions. I may not be the best at stats but she made me feel more confident in my abilities. She's also so sweet and took time to get to know me! I would highly recommend taking B22 with Sohee!
Prof. Kang is very lively and friendly, interacts with students as much as possible to engage students in their learning experience with statistics. She was the best professor in my first year experience at U of T.
I tried apporaching her to introduce my self and talk about the lecture and she dismissed me.
Prof. Kang is a wonderful professor who clearly tries her best to explain the concepts as best as she can and uses various examples throughout the lectures to make sure students understand the content. She offers various resources. Sometimes concepts explained can be difficult to understand but visiting office hours can help lots!
The exam is extremely hard, and the wording is confusing. The amount of curving must be done when half the class is failing. She goes through concepts too quickly and puts easy examples on the lecture slides when the exam is 10x harder. Gives a lot of bonus marks, but it does not help when you're barley passing. DON'T TAKE HER !!!
i just had my final exam today,i dont know what to say. She is a really good prof but her exam questions are off the room. Nor did I pass the midterm and I do not think I passed the final. I am likely to pass with around a D+ or C- sadly. She gives bonus marks tho for attendance and also provides curves given that the class average was bad.
The worst exam I have ever seen in my life. How was my chem final better than that of stats. The course is so easy and straight forward, and then you enter exam room and everything you learned is just nowhere to be seen. Honestly unfair methods of testing, both midterm and final were not fair. Rushes through lectures, doesn't answer questions.
The final is not as difficult as others described. Even though her exams are not straightforward, but if you understand what the questions are testing on, it's doable. I only have one question that I was unsure about. As for her, she's fun and responsible! I regret how I could not attend the lectures. Would love to take her courses again!
ez pz lemon squeezy! Fair midterm and fair final, you get a free 2% boost to your grade if you just show up to lecture.
Queen of the curve
Literally the queen of the curve. Don't know how my mark ended up being the way it is but whatever she did is magical. Best prof so far in first year. Not too boring lectures and easy assignments. Sohee 🔛🔝
She is super sweet and tries to be as interactive as possible during class. She also gives us a lot of opportunities to improve our grade and inspire us to be better.
GOATED PROF I LOVE SOHEE KANG QUEEN OF CURVE!!!!!!!!
The quizzes and assignments are easy I got 100% in all of them and definitely do the quizzicals they are worth a heavy chunk and are great because you just have to get a 60% for full marks. The midterm and final are worth 65% in total, I promise you the jump in difficulty from midterm to final is huge so make sure to get 100% on the midterm.
Fair midterm, hard final. Curve is insane. Believe her when she says max out your mark on your midterm. Nice prof, friendly and caring. Sometimes funny? Ezpz lemon squeezy
Ms. Kang is very kind to students and truly cares about everyone's happiness throughout the course while still challenging everyone through exams (especially the final). Doing practice of previous exams is enough to do well on the final though, so even the exam aspect of the course is fair. Statistics is fantastic!
Sohee is honestly one of the best professors I've had in my first year at UTSC. It's obvious she cares deeply about not only her student's well-being but that she is also extremely passionate about the course content.
An amazing professor I had in my first year. Her lectures were both engaging and insightful, and she always tried her best to help her students.
Professor Kang is super sweet and tries her best to make the course easy. (IT IS NOT AN EASY COURSE I UNDERESTIMATED IT) I am not good at stats but did well on the assignments so even though I failed the tests I still pulled through with an A- She was really generous with bonus marks, definitely recommend her as a prof
Fairly hard course - you REALLY need to keep up w the weekly content and material. Her exams are the hardest part of the course but the bonus marks are SO GENEROUS that tho I probably deserved to fail I did a lot better than expected. As a person she cares a LOT about students, from that alone I would take her course again and again if I could!
Great Prof. Nice TA
She was genuinely one of the sweetest professors I've had. Although I would not say she is easy, she tries her best to ensure everyone is able to pass the course. Attendance is no mandatory, she does give an additional 2% for attending lectures. She also curves quite often, I really enjoyed her class overall even though I hated the subject itself.
I just wanted to express here how much I appreciate sohee. She's so sweet and tries her hardest to make her lectures fun and engaging. Course is definitely HARD, I didn't do the best but I did learn a lot of important things in this course. She also curves fairly and had 2% extra credit for attendance and ngl this motivated me to attend lectures
I dropped STAB22 because I was failing badly. Despite this, I really enjoyed the teaching being done for the class. Many opportunities to succeed are given as long as you put a sufficient amount of time into understanding the material (which is something I didn't do). I would definitely attempt this course again with Prof. Kang, she is amazing!
Sohee Kang is one of the best profs I've had in first year at UTSC. She's caring, inspirational, and always willing to help. She gives great feedback and assigns a lot of homework, but it really helps for the midterm and final. She even gave bonus marks! You can tell she truly wants her students to succeed.
Sohee is very caring when it comes to students. She gives opportunities to receive bonus marks to be added to your grade. Midterm was okay and Final was a but hard, but I find that doing past exams is great preparation. She's approachable and responds quickly to posts on piazza.
Dr. Kang truly made me excited for class, she has unlimited amounts of enthusiasm and is always willing to listen to students when they're lost. Her course is not easy by any means, but with enough studying, practice, and visits to her office hours an A is very doable. STRONGLY recc!!
One of the kindest professors and people you will encounter during your time at UTSC- goes above and beyond for her students.
She covers the material well and tries to make sure students understand it too. Many examples in her slides on each concept and she re-iterates most of the important points. She's stops for questions in class and will answer questions outside of class too.
yes sohee my queen
She's a super nice and caring prof, unfortunately it's a difficult subject for a lot. I'm currently in the class and the average for the midterm was a 56. The only issue I'd have is that the example questions she does in class are nothing like on the test. Before any tests, look over past year tests and quizzical questions or you'll fail.
Super great and friendly prof. Not so great course in that you really need to grind to get a good grade. Spam old exams and Quizzical questions
Prof Kang is one of the best professors at UTSC. If you're taking STAB22 if you actually try it's impossible to fail the class, she gives you so many opportunities for extra credit and practically gives away free marks w/ quizzes, data labs, & quizzical. Her exams are very fair, so as long as you actually study it's extremely easy to get an A.
Professor Sohee has great lectures and does give a lot of opportunities to boost your grade. However, the midterm and final are very different in terms of difficulty compared to lecture slides and sometimes even textbook questions, so it is very important that you go over her past midterms and finals + quizzical questions.
Prof Kang is a good lecturer. Her exams are kinda hard but she does curve the final. It isn't an easy class but with effort and proper studying it's doable.
