She's a decent professor, but she goes through material as if you already know it. For example, ever had someone try to explain all the inner workings of a video game or different hobby in a few minutes just by running through it all, and so you're left barely grasping any of it? That's what she's like. She's a great person though, lenient too.
Hard to understand
Class seems extremely unorganized from a student standpoint. Switches between canvas and hawkes and its not always clear what assignments are due when. Her accent is difficult to understand and she teaches as though you already know the material. Use your resources and study a lot to be successful!!
Professor Bakhour was very rude to me when I reached out for help this past semester, to the point where I've never felt so disrespected by a teacher before in my life. Heavy course load for just college algebra. Not accommodating in the slightest. Would not recommend her class based off of my experience with her as a professor.
She really made me wonder about how people can be so harsh during such a difficult time. I hate to say it but she is impossible to understand (my family are immigrants w accents and I couldnt understand her), is "unable" to except ANY late work at all, and everything is on Hawkes website so good luck getting the website to accept a CORRECT answer.
Avoid at all costs.
This professor teaches as if you already know what you're learning. I can describe the class environment as a mixture of fast-paced scattered teaching matched with sudden arguments with students. You're in for a tough hour and a difficult time on the exams. Even if you're great at math, this will be a challenging class.
Learned more from unnecessary amount of homework than the actual professor. Anytime you ask her to explain something again because she speaks to herself or slow down, she yells at you, condescends you or ignores you. Our exams and final exam were supposed to be on Hawkes (as stated on syllabus) & switches it up in the middle of semester.
If you need help with anything she is there to help. If you had trouble learning the long way of doing things this is the class for you. She doesn't put up with people playing around with class. Like any professor she wants respect from her students. In other don't talk while she is lecturing about the course materials.
Professor Bakhour's teaching makes no sense. If you try to ask a question, she either yells at you or explains it as "that's just the way it is". She gives so much homework on an online source called "Hawkes" and if you don't finish it by that night, it's a 0. Avoid at all costs or be prepared to learn through the practice on Hawkes.
She is rude and does not care
She has an accent and talks very quietly and if you politely ask her to speak up she will yell at you in front of the whole class. Everyone in the class complained that they couldn't hear her and she didn't speak up the whole semester. Anytime anyone asked a question she would yell at them. Just watch the videos on Hawkes and you will be fine.
very difficult to understand
Professor Bakhour not only talks very quietly with a heavy accent but also overcomplicates every math problem and makes it very hard to understand. Even the most basic math problems are turned into what seems like impossible to learn. She does not allow you to ask questions and contradicted her syllabus by switching online tests to paper.
This professor is extremely difficult as she does not explain things in an easy to understand manner. You have to go to class in order to take notes, otherwise you won't do well! Those tests are extremely difficult, so study hard for everything. Try your best and get help outside of the classroom. It is hard, but you can get an A or B.
Doesn't speak English very well, very hard to understand and gets mad when you ask her to slow down. Everything you need in order to teach yourself is in the online program that's required. I stopped going to class about halfway through the semester and only showed up for her tests that she insists on having in person instead of online.
Professor Bakhour is nice, but she is very hard to understand, it is the end of the semester and it's still hard to know what she is saying, which I know is not her fault it just made the class much more challenging. Flies through everything and kind of have to just teach yourself.
Professor Bakhour is very sweet, I definitely feel that she wants everyone who takes her class to succeed. She does work through the lectures at a fast pace. We were assigned a ton of work to complete by the end of the week but if you do the work you'll pass.
You cannot understand Professor Bakhour. Her accent is very thick and I had no idea what was going on. No one payed attention in that class because by the time you grasped what she said two minutes ago, it was already too late. I was also mis-leaded with my grade when I thought I had a 97% in Canvas and had a 83% in Hawkes and she took the Hawkes..
Professor Is a nice and sweet lady. She is very intelligent and capable in math but the teaching part is a little iffy,; transferring what she knows to you is not as smoothe. Essentially, the homework is important it contributes to your grades, you can teach yourself the material at your own pace and you will pass. Hawkes is your best friend
It was difficult to understand her and unfortunately students were rude to her about this aspect. I do not want to slander this professor as a person, but truthfully I would recommend taking a different professor for this course if you can not work through an accent barrier. If you can, she is sweet and will assist you as much as possible.
Difficulty understanding due to a thick accent. Lectures consist of her just solving problems on the board, which can be quite boring. The homework, done online through Hawkes, takes a long time to complete. She also misled many by not making it clear that your grade for the class comes from the HAWKES grade book, NOT Canvas. All I can say is, RUN!
I love her, if you meet her even once outside of class she will work with you for the rest of the semester. Shes really good at giving feed back, she can be hard to understand but she shows you how to do everything very clearly
Has the thickest accent and when you ask for her to repeat something she acts as if we are stupid and dumb. Is not good at teacher either.
Overall, I think she is a nice teacher who is very helpful outside the classroom and I would have given her a better score but one thing that is difficult for me is her accent. It is very hard to understand her for that reason and I gave up halfway through the semester because I didn't understand anything. I honestly had to learn through Hawkes.
ALL assignments are done/graded on this math website, not canvas. The lessons on the math website and her in-person lectures were hard and never correlated with one another even though it was in the same lesson. Would often go off-topic and talk about her daughter as a way to connect with the lesson but it never did
Professor Bakhour is super sweet and really cares about her students. She has a little bit of an accent, but you can understand her just fine. All of the assignments and tests are on Hawks and that is where all your grades are. Her lectures are a little confusing sometimes, but if you ask questions she will help you.
There are many things wrong with this woman, but a few can be chalked up to her aptitude for lack of sympathy. It's like she feeds off of it. I told her I had a familial issue that would force me to leave school at variable times. Comes finals week and I make a C. Pretty decent considering my year. No round up, no care. Evil woman, that. AVOID HER!
She is smart, organized, caring, lots of homework, but it's Math and you have to work to learn.
I learned the topics conceptually in this class. I was very satisfied with her explanation and tests. She provided us a great review packet for final and it helped me to get A on my exam. I will take next level course (college Algebra) with her next semester.
Very kind, caring, and knowledgable professor, I will definitely take another course with her!
Professor Bakhour is organized, fair, and hard working. I learned a lot. I'm taking 1103, precalculus with her this semester.
I enjoyed her class and got good grade. I'm taking 1100 with her this fall as well !
I took 1103 with her, She is amazing!
I got those I need for my next course, of course I take Math 1100 with her this fall.
I have Math 1103, Precalculus with this professor this semester. I have my A so far! Everything is great and I trust her to be successful in this course. I will take my next course with her as well!
You'll need to teach yourself, terrible lecturer She tells the answer without explanation & is homework due EVERYDAY ! Test are hard. Found out I was taking this class for no reason I was taking Cal & Pre-cal at the same time I had an A in Cal & an F in pre cal that says a lot about how the material is being taught.
The sheer amount of 5.0s and 1.0s display honesty between one and another done likely for extra credit. This woman is absolutely vile and displays obvious tells of carelessness. May her removal from this institution be swift.
I recommend this professor to everybody!
Good opportunity to take the class with her, Great professor!
I took my 900 with this professor last semester, I have registered for 1101 next semester. She is the most caring and kind professor. I know I will be in good hand. she gives so much opportunity to improve the grades.
I'm doing very good in my 1101 now, She is very caring and knowledgeable. I definitely recommend her.
She respects the students all the time and arrange a meeting with students to discuss about their progress. she always gives lot's energy and motivation to students. I will take my pre calculus with her as well.
Professor Bakhour provided an incredible amount of encouragement to me throughout the semester and was willing to help in any way that she could. She is professional and exceptionally knowledgeable about the subject and put a lot of time and effort into this course. I attended her office hours many times and enjoyed getting to know her.
I struggled in this class but Dr. Bakhour is always ready to help students that put in effort to their grades. I highly recommend attending office hours if you are struggling. She is a great professor and I would definitely take her for other Math courses as well. She really cares about students who care.
I highly recommend Dr. Bakhour! If you need help, go to office hours or email her because she truly wants her students to succeed. For homework, do Certify on Hawkes (unlimited attempts and has good practice) and a Pre-Quiz (1 attempt). For tests, the study guides are usually similar and she gives you extra credit if you do warmups/lecture notes.
Very reasonable, knowledgable and fair.
She was always available to answer the questions, provide lots of resources. super good grading.
she motivate me so much to study more! I got A with her help and support. Thank you professor Bakhour!
So far, I enjoy her class a lot! I'm so happy to have her as the instructor!
The professor is very caring and understanding. Although if you are bad at math, don't take this class. It's very fast pace and you need to study many hours outside of class. The exams are nothing like the study guide but if you do your assignments, It should be easy to understand. (BTW Homework/Quizzes due almost everyday.)
I'm enjoying the class. She is very organize, well prepared for the class. I know what I'm expected to know. Study guides are very related and her tests are so fair.
Honestly take this professor if there aren't any available classes left. The professor is somewhat nice but she's very backhanded and rude to students who are not doing in her class. The course material is quite easy but she will make it extremely difficult for you to understand if you are bad at math.
I dread going to class every morning and reading through these reviews honestly sound unrealistic. She speeds through lessons so much that we'll end up sometimes correcting her. Canvas grades never match up to your Hawks and assignments never line up to the lessons. We have quizzes on things you weren't taught and you have to teach yourself.
The professor wasn't that great but she wasn't the worst. The course has a lot of homework and quizzes, and majority of the time the test doesn't match up to what you learned in class, just be sure to listen to what material she tells you to study. It's not a difficult class, don't slack or you will fall behind quick and make sure to study everyday
I have B-high now, and I'm hoping to improve it to A. I have learned to work hard. This professor is very caring, and explain things well. Materials are too much, but are manageable.
I didn't experience any difficulty with Professor Bakhour, she is very organized and I knew my every day assignment clearly. As much as being active in the course and doing assignments on time, you will be more successful!
I struggle with math already and this class did not help me at all. I could barely hear anything she was saying. She went through material very quickly and had homework due back to back, leaving very little time to even learn the material. Sweet lady but not the class structure for me.
Dr. Bakhour was very sweet and really cared about her students who took the time to talk to her outside of class. I struggle with math and I knew I would need extra help and she was so understanding and I brought my grade up because of her. If you work hard and do your assignments then you will pass.
I think she is amazing, very organized. I expect to get A in this class!
Just solve questions on your own.
She had a really bad way of explaining the work! Don't recommend unless you want to be lost!!!
She doesn't like when you ask her questions or if you ask her to repeat herself.
She is very clear about what is on tests, study guides are 5-8 points of extra credit on tests on paper you have a week to do it. It can be difficult to understand her but sit in the front, do your homework, and you'll have an easy A class.
The people who give her bad ratings are also the ones that don't show up to class, and expect her to spoon feed them everything with barely any effort. She's a fair teacher, and does a good job lecturing if you pay attention and do your job as a student.
She is a good teacher as long as you show up to her class and pay attention. She does have a bit of an accent so it may be hard to understand certain things she says but she's not as bad as people say she is. A lot of homework online but I'd say it's beneficial.
She does not wear a mic and has a very strong accent, so she can be very difficult to follow. The course itself is very assignment heavy, but the tests are short. She can also be very confrontational so keep your head down.
I'm taking math 1101 now with her, she is very kind, caring and organized professor. I liked the class and learned a lot! I have already enrolled in her calculus class for next semester.
She's sweet, has quite an accent so I would sit near the front, she also allows late work which is helpful but don't let it get you behind, other than that she's pretty great, (attendance is by paper) and is very clear with what's on tests, she's probably one of the better professors so def consider her!
She is a great professor
She is insensitive and just all around a bad professor. I walked out more confused than when I came in. Everything I learned I had to teach myself
Professor Bakhour is a really sweet lady, but has a thicker accent and talks quietly so it is harder to hear her if you are not sitting in the front of the room. She is a good math professor and the class isn't really hard, but if you can't understand her then you might learn more from the hw assignments on Hawkes than the lectures.
Very quiet, heavy accent, and REFUSES to use her mic. However, you can learn the entire course from Hawkes or even look up videos on Khan academy. Don't even try paying attention in this class, because it's almost impossible to hear or understand her.
Professor Bakhour is not a good professor at all. She does not even try to speak up when her students cannot hear. Not everybody can move closer; there are not enough seats for this. When asked a question she is rude.
this professor goes off on tangents and doesn't explain the material good at all. plus her accent is so thick you can barley understand her plus she doesn't use her mic ever. help yourself and choose someone else
When I saw last three unfair comments, I decided to write about the facts. This student didn't respect the class, eat food and talk to her friend all the time. I have an A in the class with professor Bakhour's guidance; I have learned a lot from this professor. I'm so happy of opportunity to be in this class!
I agree , she ia great professor!
She's not a good professor; she goes off on random statements, and you can barely understand a word she says with her thick accent. The tests are brutal, and the class is incredibly dull, with most of the information you will have to learn for yourself. Just take the class next semester if she is the only professor available.
PF is kind but arguably the worst professor at UNCC—maybe the entire county. Her fast-paced style and thick accent make understanding impossible in an already hard class. Questions get attitude, not answers. 95% of us are lost, frustrated, and disengaged. Avoid this class if you value your sanity and want a chance to succeed in calculus.
She has a strong accent, but is pretty clear-cut in explaining concepts. The material isn't complicated either since no Trig or optimization/related rates is present in this course.
She does have an accent that can be difficult to understand but you can pretty much learn the concepts through the learning software and other resources. If you want a good grade I would just keep up with all of the assignments (they're easy to get behind on) and study and you'll do fine.
I would not take this professor if you have other options. I'm generally good at math, but this class made me doubt that. She uses the textbook but goes through it very fast and sometimes doesn't even finish solving the example problems. She goes off on random tangents and her accent and not using the microphone makes it hard to understand.
Don't take this professor, hard to understand. Lots of work, homework will save your grade, test are generally hard and the textbook sometimes don't teach what she does in lectures. Doesn't get through lectures but gives extra credit, take John Taylor
Be prepared to teach yourself most of the material in this class. While the professor is kind, her thick accent can make it challenging to understand her lectures. On the bright side, the class itself is fairly easy, and the tests are almost identical to the study guides, consisting entirely of multiple-choice questions.
Accent is too hard to understand, 4 exams which are moderate-difficult, her study guide answers and work has shown to be incorrectly solved so many times, she's even threatened to not grade one of my exams due to a genuine question to help improve my grade. She also is biased towards A students and offers them a "job" to advertise herself as "good"
Awesome professor, lectures were entertaining and easy to follow she does have a noticeable accent but not super heavy. All homework's are graded online and you only have to do 80% of each assignment. Homework website will also explain any problem. The study guides she gives are very helpful especially for the final. Including final only 4 tests.
Her lectures are mandatory, and they mostly just focus on solving math problems without much explanation of the concepts. The tests are fairly easy and don't carry much weight in the overall grade. While the course is easy to pass, the lectures can be quite dull.
Great professor, class was very active environment, I learned a lot!
Knowledgable professor! I got easy 5% for the attending in class. extra credits counts. Staying with the class was my key to success. Everything is very clear and straight forward. Grading policy was great!
Very fair and caring professor! The extra credit and curve applied at the end of semester was a great policy and helped me a lot! I also really appreciate Professor Bakhour's help and concern for me as a student.
This instructor was highly ineffective. She has great difficulty communicating the concepts, she skips over steps constantly, she diverts into ramblings with constant dismissal that this subject is difficult for some. She is very hard to follow in class, was very grateful for the YouTube videos created by Meana Hastings, definitely
I like this professor more that my others. Very clear, kind and good explanation of concepts. I'm enjoying to be in her class.
I'm so grateful to change my section from professor Crosby to this professor. She explains the concepts very clear and provides warm-up, and solution to lecture notes. these are very helpful and understandable. I expect to pass the course with a great grade.
I don't know why people give her such a bad rep. she is a very chill teacher. you get 5 free absences. Though she does have an accent it is very understandable. She has many opportunities for extra credit. Yes I got a C in this class but I am HORRIBLE at math so for me even being able to pass the class was an achievement itself.
I sincerely try to listen in this class but it's impossible. She ventures so off-topic so frequently that it's hard to know when she's talking about the worksheet or her personal life. Her teaching method and the way she addresses any question like we're stupid is so incredibly offputting and annoying.
Honestly a lot of her reviews are really bad, but she is not a terrible professor. Yes, she has a thick accent but what can she do to help that? She certainly does venture off during lectures but you just have to keep up with her. If you're truly struggling, try to meet with her, she's very considerate and sweet. Make sure you practice on your own.
She is one the best professor I have ever had. The class is amazing and she explains things very professionally.
I have been totally satisfied with professor Bakhour. She makes the class a fun environment for learning. Very nice and and caring professor. She is very knowledgeable and gives us good feedback.
She can be hard to understand and hear. So it can be hard to know what the material is. She was nice and friendly, but not a good teacher. I would avoid taking her at all costs. I did not understand the material, and she didn't provide much help to me.
Solid teacher with a small accent. She's very sociable and has clear lectures and homework that if followed will ensure a good grade. Good Person, Good Teacher.
If anyone's looking at this review, I would advise be prepared to do a ton of work as well as make sure you can understand the professors accent. She was tough on grading tests to the point where everybody failed one of them and her teaching style did not work for me at all. She just goes too fast through the lectures.
She's a nice person, but her lectures are really hard to understand. But if you ask questions and go to office hours, you really can't fail this class. She does have a policy that if you miss 5 classes you fail this class tho. She gives a lot of extra credit for each test and assigns a lot of hw, but that personally I liked cause it helped me.
I took this class in summer. Graded attendance and learned a new topic daily with no practice time and harder homework than what she taught. Her accent is very heavy, and her explanations are too vague. Be prepared for her dry jokes. Extra credit and open notes helped. Tests are tough, but final exam was easier. Take this class online if possible.
She was so confused
She is a great teacher, I like her and enjoy the class a lot!
So far I have learned a lot, homework are seemed a lot, but all are online and easy to do them. Tests are align with the lectures and review.
Professor barely speaks any English. Very hard to understand her during her lectures. She also just doesn't seem to comprehend what she is teaching.
The best professor that I have ever had! Very smart and knowledgable! Amazing lectures, her class is so much fun and great learning environment!
Prof Bakhour is a great teacher, although she does have a pretty distinct accent so it can be a little tough to understand her some times. Overall she does a good job explaining topics but it can be a little confusing, so don't feel scared to ask for clarification.
She seemed very confused while teaching when people asked questions and made her even more confused and the whole class was just the most confusing thing I've ever ever done in my whole life. Do not take this class.
Professor Bakhour was just mid to be honest. She mostly just *did* the math problems. She wasn't very good at explaining how she got the answer, so I had to try and teach myself the material. There is a lot of homework, and it doesn't always line up with the topic in class. There is lots of chances for extra credit and office hours are available.
DO NOT TAKE HER! She barely spoke English and went off on bizarre personal tangents. She explains things in a way that doesn't make sense and assigns up to 5 hours of homework a week for an entry level course.
Don't take her. Struggles to speak basic English. The only hard thing about this class is understand what she is saying during her lectures.
Extremely thick accent, constantly messing up during lectures and her writing is almost as hard to understand as her accent. Corrected by her own students quite often. Seems to have a very basic understanding of both the course content and the english language. PLEASE do not take her class if you have a choice, I wish I had dropped her.
Just finished Pre-Calc with her. DO NOT TAKE if you want to learn from a prof and not youtube or chat. You will not be able to understand her accent, and if you do her lecture wont actually teach you anything. She expects you to just know how to do all of the problems after seeing it one time.
The teacher is nice but her lectures are tough to understand and her teaching style isn't that great. She's pretty unorganized with her notes and its hard to follow what she's doing. She also has a pretty thick accent AND mumbles so understanding her is quite difficult too. I wouldn't take her again, she is kind though.
DO NOT TAKE. Accent makes her impossible to understand. I had to learn the entire class on YouTube. Her canvas organizational skills are also terrible, with content all over the place. Should not have a job at a university.
DO NOT TAKE BY ANY MEANS. Doesn't speak English or use the microphone provided in class, does not care about students grades, study guides don't match tests, she will say one thing and it will be the complete opposite for the test, her classes are all over the place and her handwriting is terrible. Please do not take her
One of the WORST professors ever She DOES NOT speak proficient English and will talk to herself in lecture. Her "self"-made study guides don't match the 3 practice tests or the 3 exams. She denies students from her office hours; she cycles through old tests and material. You are better off learning from the YouTube playlist than from her lecturing.
PLEASE DO NOT TAKE!!! I had to teach myself via youtube lectures. She rambles and skips over major key concepts. Many of her answers provided are incorrect, i'm not actually sure if she knows what she's attempting to teach. Can be very condescending. Very test heavy, with 3 *graded* practice tests and 3 tests + cumulative final exam. SAVE YOURSELF
DO NOT TAKE!! Got extra help, received tutoring, and still could not follow along to what she was "trying" to teach in class. You cannot understand what she is saying, or doing on paper when half of her notes are jumbled and/or incorrect. Was very condescending and said how easy the material was, while she was failing to teach us the course
THE WORST PROF AT UNC for someone of her background. Prof who don't speak english teach better than her. Learn from the YouTube and vist the math department AVOID HER.
Bottom tier professor she doesn't understand properly english or speaks loud enough for a lecture room, complains about students proficiency during office hours and leaves early, she admits to cycling through old material because she lazy and waits until the last second to grade test and or respond to emails.
The worst prof to be stuck with this semester I had to teach myself or sit in other professors lectures to understand. She makes comments about your ability to learn and will side talk to the TA about your knowledge and test scores
