She is a good teacher! 95% of the class passed with an A or B.
interesting, funny, EASY teacher! tests are super easy and lectures are good.
strict but very good, don't be late & get an A
She's great- make sure to sit upfront and ask questions,
Great teacher - knows her material, just study material/notes and you get an A
Is full of herself. Likes to be called PROFESSOR Stolba.
Seems distracted by extracurricular speaking engagements on Muslim subjects. Perhaps tests are so easy because this is a secondary interest. Work interferes with some people's social life.
Professor Stolba was great. Take good notes and be sure to study your notes well for the tests.
JUST LECTURES, TEST ARE SOMEWHAT EASY IF YOU STUDY THE NIGHT BEFORE
only counts test as grade, just cram the night b4 you will due fine
Doctor Stolba is extremely bright and extremely opinionated. I don't agree with many of her opinions, but consider myself lucky to have had her as my first college professor; she gave me an outline to succeed in future classes.
Dr. Stobla makes her classes sound harder then they really are. Do not stress about her test, if you do a min amount of studying ( i never studied and still managed an A) you will be fine.
Arrogant.
EASY! Take good notes, and make sure to come to class for review days. Everything on review, is on the exam. Does make class seem harder then it is, but dont pay any attention to it.
Make sure you show up to class, and take good notes. Very knowledgable individual. There are 4 tests during the semester. 2nd test is the hardest.
Dr. Stolba is very involved with issues concerning women in Yemen and so on. She is a cultural anthropologist... anyone who thinks she should just teach and not have other things going on is stupid. Great professors are always involved in their fields.
Barely any stress. Study exactly what she tells you to study on review, show up to class, do the outlines and you'll get an A. I like that she is involved in what she teaches.
Very good professor. Very knowledgeable on subject, makes the lecture very interesting, would recommend to anyone.
Dr. Stolba knows what she's talking about. You should respect her and pay attention. She is an awesome professor and is very cultured. Show up to class and take notes and you should do fine. Don't forget about the assign. due on test day!!
One of the most knowledgeable teacher i've come across. She really knows what she is talking about. If you attend all lectures, take good notes,& read exactly what she tells you to,you should've absolutely no problem in the class.I'd recommend her for sure.
She has a bunch of really fun stories she tells of her trips around the world, making the subject less dry & more colorful. Really EASY class. However, the tests aren't based solely on her notes. She'll sneak in a few questions that could only be answered if you read (a little sneaky-sneaky).
Absolutely Spectacular Lady!Do ALL of the articles, the EC,read the chap & record her lect, use as a study tool to get info you may have missed.Record her review sessions know the defin. & concepts if she says you need know it then you do!Not for slackers, utilize ofc. hrs if necc. very helpful!!
I must admit, she is easy and tells great stories, but she is rather arrogant. Also, some of her lectures contain some false or distorted facts.
ARROGANT. She thinks that anthro is the only beneficial field. Easy class, closed-minded woman. She criticizes her own kids for not joining her field. Tedious assignments. I hated the class but got an A eaily.
Fair. Hard tests. Must do outlines in order to get the grade you expect. Lectures were usually interesting, but her board notes were useless. I didn't find her arrogant exactly, but definitely is caught up in her work outside of class.
One of the worst teachers ever. Isn't really up to date on current information, knows more about her institute than anthropology. Don't really care what she's done around the world because she's a crappy teacher
She's excellent teacher but bit harsh on MC test. She's total easy on grade. It's simple u type entire outline + info then you get full pts. She didn't even read it and she's faking it. She has a lot of interest in world and it's your chance to take this teacher for anthro class so I like her class.
Stolba was a very interesting lady; I wouldn’t call her a great teacher though. She was mostly concerned about talking about herself and what she has done with her life than teaching the students the information for the tests.
Fun Class, very easy. I would have to say she is at least more interesting than most Anthro Teachers.
really cool teacher...has a lot of interesting stories....really layed back class.. becareful not to slack off too much or you might be taking it over like i am...

tells you what is on test but don't like her personality at all, kind of rude and very condesending
A pretty nice lady, but expects everyone to know more than they should. Has alot of interesting stories and life related material. Do outlines and study, you'll get an A!
She knows her stuff but she is very arrogant, she thinks she is above everyone. she tells her stories throughout class instead f going over what is gonna be on the test. Her Buzz questions help but not as much as they should. She goes over her material qui
for a general class you only get to hear about medical anthro in egypt. there is so much more to be learned. i have to force my self to go to class every day. i do not like her aragont additude
She is so arrogent. She thinks she is better than everyone else. She gets on my nerves because of her personality. She just angers me.
I honestly didn't enjoy this class. One thing I have really liked about AR is that the teachers reach out and really learn about the student population. For this professor, it seems as though she was very detached. She was there to lecture and that's it. At the end of the semester she would still be asking people their names, even if they had contributed to the discussions every day. Perhaps just not my kind of professor.
I had her class a while back. Can't complain about the things I learned from the expensive textbooks, but she would always go off topic. If you want to pass her class, stick to the textbooks and not her lectures.
I did not like her at all. She puts down other cultures. She is not a very good teacher. For our class she was very rude to us and called us all stupid and said that we were all gonna fail. Don't take her unless you want to be stuck reading her stupid articles about Egypt and writting outlines on them.
Shouldn't be a teacher. Too preoccupied with traveling to Iraq and being president of an organization. Left us with a sub for 10 days, came back and we had a test that day. bad planning, bad assignments, bad teacher.
it seem that she did not care about the class that she was teaching. she went on vacation in the middle of the semester. she does not put any effort in her lectures, everything we are tested on we need to look it up from the book. Not COOL
doesn't care about the students at all. Thinks we are all idiots. Lectures way off topic from the tests but she is funny and interesting to listen to.
What a horrible person. She did not let me retake a test that I had missed because my mom had died. She doesn't care about the students and she is extremely opinionated about other cultures. Its amazing that an anthro teacher would have such an ETHNOCENTRIC view of the world. She's exactly the opposite of what you would want or expect in a prof
Reminder: this is coming from a straight A student who loves college. I was absolutely unempressed with Dr. Stolba. She was very unprofessional when talking in class discussions. SHe was always putting down the class when we didn't understand what she was trying to teach. Stuck it out and struggled my way through, but would never take her again.
Horrible person and teacher. Didn't think that people could talk like that to their students and still remain a professor. Physical Anthropology is not longer an interest to me after taking this class. I find that rather sad. Any teacher that discourages education does not belong in a teaching position.
The sh*t that comes out of her mouth is funny only because you would never think an educated anthropologist would say it. But she is one of the easiest teachers I have had.
She is great. She is blunt (learn to deal!!) Her stories are interesting. I would take her again! Just got to class and pay attention! Don't be offended by what she says. I have said several times to friends "she is like a female Indiana Jones." She has been all over the world, and seen many things. ENJOYED HER A LOT!
Wonderful experience. Professor Stolba is a teacher of the highest caliber. She is informative, well educated, knowledgeable about current events and at the same time a lot of fun. I wish I could take this class again!
Her deal: Born in Egypt, a women! She climbed to the top because of hard work & lazy students won’t cut it in this class, she won’t tolerate it. As Americans we are given great opportunities & should take advantage of them rather then waste them. Slackers find another class, that way you’ll get an A and still know nothing!
Dr. Stolba is an excellent professor. She's strict and expects students to put forth an effort but also fair and works with students. Go to class, pay attention and skim over the book to refresh your memory of what got covered in class, you'll get an A or B....slack off and your grade will show it. I really enjoy the stories she tells in class too.
i really enjoyed being in professor stolba's class. she is very knowledgeable, and tells great storied about her experiences. yes, the tests were difficult, but if you go to class and take good notes they aren't too bad. its worth it to hear about the places she has gone. would defintetly recommend.
Often times difficult to understand however a fairly straight forward course. Do your homework take exceptional notes and you will do well. I rarely pre read the chapters and mainly just took good notes, studied those and got a B. Also visit the SHARE Institute if you get a chance, Dr. Stolba will tell you all about it but it was a great experience.
Good teacher. Take excellent notes and you'll be fine! Minimum homework. One zoo visit. Don't be late or she will call you on it in class. She doesn't suffer fools either!
Hard class, teacher openly insults students for wrong answers. Was not enjoyable.
Excellent professor.
LOved the class and enjoyed all the information she had to offer.. she makes the class very fun and relax >>>>>>>>>>>>. Easy A if u follow her study techs
The best teacher ever,,, the easiest teacher ever,, Never opened the book, just be in class and takes notes and you will get an A, trust me on that,,, DON"T LISTEN to any one else,, who talks Sh*t about her,, bet professor ever,,, the clasis is extremely intresting... you should TAKE HER,,, I don't even study, just befre the test I open the ones
I took her for anth 300 and 310,, best time i ever had,,, it's like comming to class and enjoying the lecture,,, VERY FUNNY, tells a lot of her life stories which is extremly FUNNY,,, best teacher I ever had... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED...it's an EASY A if you want an A if not take someone else.. GOOD LUCK!!!
This professor is spectacular. Best time I've ever had in a class. She's enjoyable, fun to listen to, and one of the most intelligent people in their field that I have ever met. I LOVED HER CLASS. Her teaching method is clear and concise and her tests are easy. She does have a no-nonsense attitude but has a sense of humor.
Take this class if you want to learn only learn about Middle East/Egypt, be belitteled, called stupid and held accountable for her mistakes. You have to buy her extremely out of date book and do outlines on the articles what she wrote. Over all it is an easy class but she is the most ETHNOCENTRIC and rude teacher I have ever been exposed to.
She could be rude at times.
i think she is so smart! she has 3 masters and i had fun with her. she's knowledgeabe, and she got me very interested in studying primates. i would recommend her and i would take her for another class. she gives you what is on the test. just make sure you go to the zoo because you have to sign in so she'll know if you really went.
out of all my lecture classes, her class is the only one that i never fell asleep even though i took it early.she know a lot about anthropology.she is an awesome teacher because she shares many stories from her own experience and that makes da class so much more interesting.just learn the buzwords and you will do just fine.the outlines are easy2do.
Stolba loved talking about herself. Class was boring and she could be rude. She requires 2 pages typed single-spaced outlines of every article when some of them are only 3 pages in the first place. She wrote them so she thinks they're fabulous, but they are outdated, poorly written and have typos. DON'T TAKE HER! (this from an "A" student)
I took the 8 week class, and the majority of the class she tells stories. It's definitely do-able to get an A. Do the outlines, be there the day she reviews for the test, and you'll do fine. On a personal note, I didn’t care for her. She can be very condescending and rude.
Stolba really does not know how to teach. Just read the chapters by yourself and get the buzz words. I got an A in the class, but you do have to put some effort in it. She has these outlines which are pointless, her tests arent that hard if u study. She gets mad if u dont believe in evolution haha
i was not looking foward to this class but i was so happy to see it end. Stolba is an unstimulating conceited professor. her personality and appearence are both ugly. found it hard to attend her class. dont take her.
Easy class. This teacher constantly put down my class, saying we were the most boring. Other than that, go to class, and be sure to be there the day before the test as she gives you all the questions on the exam. She grades the outlines on length, not the quality, which is absurd. Extra credit available.
Dr. Stolba is awesome! She doesn't put up with stupid people, which is nice. If you're smart and participate, you're guaranteed an A. As far as slackers go, she'll put you in your place. I HIGHLY recommend this teacher to all!
Easy A. Pay attention during class, gives a lot of bonus pts, and very interesting teacher b/c of a lot of experience.
The class is easy is you show up, do the outlines and look up the buzz words. Stolba can appear to be making you feel dumb but it's more funny than anything...i never got offended. Other than that, she's a pretty good teacher w/ a lot of first hand experience.
This class is easy to get an A if you do the extra credit and the outlines. Make sure to do outlines in her format otherwise you're screwed. I got B's on 3 of the tests, but becuase I did the extra credit I ended up with an A in the class. She does not put up with slacker students.
extremely boring and into herself dont think I really learned anything... all she does is talk about herself and Yemen over and over again.... ZzZZZZZzz
Stolba; frist of all very rude, bad attitude, mean... Just wonder, how she became Anthropologist dr., whith her attitude...? I would not recommend her if you have diffucult schedule in your life! She would not understand you at all!
cultural anthrop was the best class ive taken so far at arc. Her lectures are really interesting, youll never day dream. Easy A if you do the outlines the way she wants them and study the buzz words. Great class i Strongly recomend her, unless your a person that gets butt-hurt easily, cuz she might be strait up and make you look dumb...
One of the worst classes and teachers ever. Make sure to go to class b/c she takes attendance for grade. Make sure to do ALL of the outlines and extra credit (which you have pay money for most of them) to get a good grade. She's incoherent and so are her articles that she wrote. You'll feel dumber after taking her class.
Insulting, degrading, condescending--and that's on a good day. She spent a whole day insulting everyone's major: English majors have "no idea" what to do with themselves, nursing majors are "wasting their time." If you answer questions she'll make you feel stupid and if you don't she'll stare you down. I got an "A" and I still hated this class.
Stolba is a true inspiration - brilliant and fascinating. If you're reasonably intelligent and interested in the subject, you can do very well. She's widely traveled and combines lectures with anecdotal stories about her experiences. She also offers copious extra credit, and is very understanding of individual student's needs. I highly recommend.
Awesome professor! Truly an expert in her field, and very knowledgeable! She had SO many stories to share, and her experiences are never boring. She even wrote one of the textbooks that we use in the class. She's also an international consultant for several countries. Taking this class is a must for ANYbody! You learn so much and it's fun.
Dr. Stolba is great. Her ANTH300 class is so easy...the people who did bad are the ones who never came to class. It's 5 tests (less than 40 questions each) and "outlines" with each of the tests...the outlines are so easy and you can pretty much BS them. She's very humorous and intelligent. I loved this class, easy science!
She is an awesome teacher! Even though her classes were at 7:30am I could never fall asleep there. Her lectures are very very interesting and educational, I learned SO MUCH about other cultures! The tests are not very easy but she gives buz words for each of them and if you study them you'll get a B for sure, plus she gives extra credit 2 make an A
If you take Dr. Stolba, its not cultural anthropology, its Egyptian anthropology. She is very biased. She will force her opinions on you. Her tests are short, but hard. She complains about everything. Hates it when students don't show up, don't talk in class, and ask her questions after class. She can be really short and RUDE!!
This professor is disappointing. Her lectures reveal she is lazy, with hardly any evidence of any preparation. Her tests are horrible; the questions are often poorly worded and also commonly do not come from the study materials. She is rude to students in class.
Love/hate thing with her. Tells fascinating stories but is usually rude and seems very disinterested. She is primarily focused on her work outside of teaching. Fascinating person but not the best instructor. Articles written by her are a pain to read. That aside, class is interesting and easy.
This was one of my favorite classes everrr!!!! Her lectures are very interesting and she is a nice person too.. I totally enjoyed this class!! If you don't have to study too hard but you can't take this class as easy either..Do the outlines.. i dnt think she reads them word by word.. lol..overall, very enjoyable class!! :)
stolba's class is interesting and it was fun to hear the stories. I got into a bad accident about a month before finals and got an Incomplete. She was HORRIBLE to deal with. She wanted me to retake the last month of classes and I finally had to go to the dean to make her let me take the final, which was the only thing I missed. I ended up with a B.
She's very condescending. She told a student to "drop dead" when the student answered incorrectly. The articles that she makes us do is pointless, and a waste of ink and paper. She's easy but take another professor.
She can be extremely rude to students sometimes, however her class is really easy, and sometimes she has interesting stories to tell. The outlines are really the only homework. They're a complete waste of time because she doesnt even read them, but theyre easy points. Overall, her class is easy but she can be difficult sometimes.
this class was not that hard. The only requirments are 2 outlines due with every test, 4 total. She is a very direct person does not like people to waste her time or the classes. I liked her, she is a very interesting lady. I would recommend reading the book. The test seemed to be based on facts in the book more so than lectures but the lectures ar
Stolba took awhile to get use to. Just show up to class, EVERYDAY, TAKE NOTES, and you will be fine. She actually cares, in her own way.
She spends the whole class period talking about her anthropological adventures. She does not prepare you well for the tests. She is teaching just for the money. She requires you to buy a book that she wrote that is overpriced and riddled with grammatical errors, and it does not make sense. She only talks about egypt because she is from egypt.
Found her to be very rude, she doesn't care about her students. She expects you to know everything already and and will put you down for giving the wrong answer. She hardly teaches, just tells the same stories about herself and gives a few key terms. Her class is very easy, but if you want to learn, I would't recommend her..
This class was very interesting; however, most of what I learned came from the textbook. She spends most of her time talking about her Anthropology trips and experiences, which can be very interesting. I thought the outline assignments were unnecessary, and she was pretty rude when I went to talk to her in her office.
I read many of your reviews just to see if I was the only one, NOT! She is not a teacher, a researcher maybe, but she doesn't know how to teach. She is ill prepared for lectures, reads from her own book. She is arrogant, and rude but maybe that is just part of growing up in Egypt? You might want to try someone else.
Great story teller, but does not explain test material well at all. Hardly gives you a study guide, and uses a book she wrote which is wierd... But I like going to class just to hear her stories. I make an effort to not have any contact with her cause she is a rag. Very rude to students. But can be very funny. I just go to class and listen.
Stolba means well. she may come off as rude, but she simply expects all of her students to do their best. her lectures are sometimes off, but for the most part she understands what she's talking about. her experience outweighs her teaching skills however, and you're going to need to rely more on your own readings to help you past the class.
Stolba is a bright, worldly lady. She can come off as very rude (because she usually is) and sometimes can be downright mean. She expects everyone to do his or her best. Prior to each test she gave a study guide with time to review in class, and the test was based on that study guide. No reason not to get at least a B. Overall not bad.
She makes you feel like she hates the class as a whole and she is constantly telling the class that we are so stupid.
stolba is a great proffesor. she is interesting and smart her stories are interesting she is hella funny, i dont think she was mean at all i guess some peeps are sensitive. Anyways do the outlines take notes read and you should get an A.
I Love this class. She loves to help people. She makes you love the world. TAKE HER she is the best.
Professor Stolba knows what she is talking about and her lectures are a clear example of this. She gives 3 tests and 1 final. She also assigns outlines from a book of articles that are due before each test. Very easy class if you come to all of the classes and write good notes. Definately take this class if you want to learn more about cultures.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND her class. It is very easy and interesting. She's an anthropologist so she tells a lot of stories that are based on experiences. One of the best professors ive ever had. Her lectures are not boring.
Worst teacher I ever experienced & will never take her again. She is always talking down to students & if you answer a question wrong she will say stuff like "Where the hell did you get that answer? Are you really that stupid?" HORRIBLE TEACHER!! She has a heavy accent & didnt understand "I'm" in a paper either so Im not sure if she should teach.
This professor is great! She is easy to follow. So much of her lecture is from experience and because of that the stories are memorable and help with retention. She's picky about the outlines but if you follow the example line by line and font by font, you will receive full points. She gives ample extra credit the Share Institute presentations are fun
She knows what she's talking about and is aninteresting woman. Make sure you engage in her discussions because she gets upset and wont give you an exam review if it seems like you don't care. Reviews are helpful, take notes. You do a few outlines that are easy and tests aren't too bad. A lot of EC and she wants you to do well so she's very helpful.
The whole grade is based on the tests. Do the outlines for the test and it will up your grade. She offers a lot of extra credit, but has you study unnecessary material for the test. Study just the buzz words and you'll do fine.
I would say she is a very interesting person.may come off as quite rude, can stop you while you're talking and say something like: that's stupid, but over all is very knowledgeable.I enjoyed attending her lectures. Attendance is required if you want to pass. TESTS are hard but you can pass them if you pay attention in class and study the buzz words
Shes hilarious! just read the book, do your outlines and DO THE EXTRA CREDIT!
This class is pretty easy. It's actually interesting. You learn a lot. Your grade is based on 4 tests that are worth 41 points. Also on the day of the test you turn in 2 outlines of articles which are worth 9 points total. There is some extra credit and it helps tons. I would recommend her but dont expect her to be nice or care about you.
She can be extremely rude and inconsiderate. Gets irritated easily at students who are not taking the class seriously, for that reason, makes it difficult for the rest of us. No homework though except outlines for exams. There are 4 exams including the final. For exams study buzz words, read the chapters from the book and also attend class
he can be extremely rude and inconsiderate. Gets irritated easily at students who are not taking the class seriously, for that reason, makes it difficult for the rest of us. Avoid this professor like the plague. Yes, her stories are interesting, but interesting stories do not help one pass the class or her tests. The outlines are mandatory, but most of the people in the class cheat on them, so if you're an honest student like myself, be prepared. Horrible Professor.
I didn't like this class at all. Talks too much about off topic subjects and her experiences in Egypt. Her main focus is egyt. She is extremely rude and not helpful. It was uncomfortable to approach her with questions. She kept telling our class how much she didn't like our class becasue of a few students who didn't show up to class. Tests are hard
Avoid this teacher if you can. She is rude, not helpful, mean, will tell you off, embarrass you in class, off topic subjects, not helpful in actually learning the materials, tests are extremely hard. I think she wants her students to fail. gets irritated very easily. She is also very strict. She thinks she's funny.
Worst teacher I've ever had. Very unclear, very unhelpful, focused more on promoting her personal grassroots organization than helping students and has a very monotonous voice on top of it all which made it difficult to stay alert in her classes.
LOVED this teacher! I don'trknow why people here had such a hard time with her class, this is the first college class I'd taken and I found it very easy. She's clear about what she expects from her students and the tests are MULTIPLE CHOICE. Also, her stories make it very easy to remember information.
Wow people actually found her hard? Just come to class, write down everything she writes and do the outlines. She doesn't read the outlines at all, she gives you an A on the zoo report if you attempted it and the quizzes aren't that big of a deal. So much extra credit is allowed too, it can boost your grade one letter like mine did if you do it all
Anthropology301 8 wk course. Dr Stolba is the way she is !! You just have to deal with it. Her class is easy.do the outlines, the extra credit stuff. She is monotonous. She gets side tract most of the times. There is an impt quiz it determines your final grade in a way. If you don?t do what she asks you to do this class is not for you.
Stolba tends to go off on tangents a lot during her lectures. Barely used the textbook, lectures are interesting when they stay on topic. Tests are all multiple choice, and she does give you "Buzz" words to study for prior to the test. Easy class, and a lot of extra credit chances.
Excellent teacher! She's a great resource, full of interesting stories that pertain to the lecture. Outlines are a no brainier, easy points. Tests aren't very difficult study the buzz words and you'll be fine. She's a wonderful woman, would recommend to a friend.
Solid Prof, 4 exams and 9 article outlines. Exam material is derived from both the lecture and notes. Lecture is not available online so if you miss class you miss out. Strict on attendance and punctuality, so be there and on time. She tells many personal stories of her professional research and they are truly inspiring.
Just do the work and you'll be fine.
She gives you all the tools you need to get an A (buzz words which are like a study guide, review days, e.c. etc.) She is not mean what so ever, and I have never had a hard time understanding her due to her accent. Yes she gets annoyed at students who don’t show up and don’t do their work but what teacher wouldn't? Pretty easy A.
This class is overall very easy. No homework. No quizzes. Doesn't care if you take notes. Although she will drop you for attendance. She is very forgetful and doesn't remember a lot of what she tells you. Watch your grade cause she doesn't. She will tell you one thing and do another. She will call you out in the middle of class and yell at you too.
She is crazy overqualified to be teaching at a community college. She's done tons of field work and has written a lot of articles. She really knows her stuff and its very interesting to listen to her stories. You learn a lot about the world but the tests are kinda difficult. Read the book!
Dr. Stolba is extremely passionate about anthropology and has worked in 33 countries; teaching for 25. If you read the text and make sure to have quality outlines the day of the test, you cant go wrong. I loved her class!
Professor Stolba is AMAZING! She is crystal clear on what it is you need to know in order to get a good grade on the quizzes. Quizzes are moderately easy. You must do your article outlines as well, or else you will fail the class. She gives help on the article outlines when needed. BE ON TIME. She is strict about attendance and punctuality.
I love Stolba. She is much better than Katrina Worley. She has actaully worked in teh field and can help you achieve your goals even after you take her class. She is funny and gets the entire class engaged.
Soheir is a good professor. She gets straight to the facts and it isn't hard to pay attention. Taking notes is recommended because all her notes will be on the exam. You have to do the outlines for exams or risk an F. And you need to read the book. Read book/Notes makes an easy A. Real simple.
Its an easy class. If you are there to take notes you will pass. However, the material she teaches is literally out of a book that she published in the 80s. Its very frustrating to spend your time writing summaries on outdated materials just so she can make extra money by selling her text book to students.
She's a funny woman but she's unclear about the due dates on most assignments, always changing them so i would do them soon after they're assigned. Also, she usually lets her classes out early and doesn't care about you, unless you make an effort to introduce yourself. Which is the best option because she gives extra credit sometimes.
No. Just no. Stolba will put pressure on you to join her charity as an intern, which you should absolutely do if your parents have way too much money or you DEEPLY enjoy vacuuming, dusting, and weeding gardens. Because that is ALL you will do unless you have $3k+ burning a hole in your pocket. And she won't bother learn your name. Take C-D instead.
This class was normal for me. There are 4 tests, zoo report, and one has to do 2 outlines for each test. This professor is good at teaching but she can be sometimes unapproachable! Overall, very good class, I just did not like to learn about evolution and bones. I would suggest everyone to take this class and be prepared to do the work to pass!
I hated this class. Did not like the teacher one bit. The class was pretty hard. Have to work very hard to get a good grade. I suggest taking some other class or at least some other teacher.
Very clear in what she wants and expects from you and has no sympathy if you fail to meet the criteria she clearly explained. Does an in-depth review before every test. Super interesting class that's well worth showing up for. Attendance taken every time and factors into your grade. She will notice if you're late or absent, and will call you on it.
She is one of the best professors I have ever taken. She is hilarious and wants you to succeed. If you come to class everyday you can easily pass tests with the lectures given. She is passionate about her work and it shows through her teaching. Has you do outlines 2 per test, very interesting must do them if you want an A in the class.
This was my first class of college and Dr. Stolba at first made me rethink taking her class. I stuck it threw the first few weeks and never was late(she's locks the door) I went to her office hours with questions which she answered no problem and did all my homework and got an easy A. If you don't get on her bad side she is amazing!
Grades consist of 4 tests and participation and up to 5% extra credit. Do you out lines right the first time and use the same format for the tests and the rest of the tests are fairly easy if you read the text and pay some what attention to class. If you do not do the easy stuff you will do horrible in class.
I say that Stolba is an amazing teacher! Why? The lectures she gives is everything that will be exactly on the test, so no reason to guess and study of what will be required on the exams. On top of that, her lectures aren't boring. She makes every topic/unit interesting, so there was never a time that I was bored. Attendance is very crucial as well
Professional abilities are good, she lets the class out earlier, and has some extra credit. Overall. would recommend.
I barely opened the required text book, and I just borrowed her other book from the library. The homework is doing a summary of her articles in a 2 page format she gave. She teaches off of her test so attending class is advisory, but if u miss a day you can just read the book. Very funny and experienced. She also gives a lot of extra credit.
She's fair and gives lots of extra credit. Her tests can be difficult, but if you take notes and do the outlines you should be good. She has tons of experience in anthropology and has some valuable information to pass on.
Passed around a sheet everyday for attendance. Homework was outlines of her book-really simple- just follow the sample. She uses a test bank from the book for her tests. She covers 85% of the test material in lecture, the rest you have to read. She shares a lot about herself. A lot of easy extra credit opportunities.
She was one of the funniest professors Ive ever had. Never veers off topic, what she discusses will always be on the tests. Not a hard class if you pay attention and take notes on EVERYTHING she says. Her lectures are really interesting and enjoyable. She likes to involve the students, but her class is very enjoyable. Only studied off the notes.
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING PROF. Offers 12pts of EC which can take you from an B to A. Outlines are worth 9pts of the 50 total for exams (4 total). Do EC immediately as it will save your grade. Lectures are simply AMAZING and can be funny at times. 85% of exam material is from lecture. So much easier than SOC300. Highly recommend for nursing majors.
If you don't have a problem with simply showing up and writing basic notes from time to time, there's no way you can't pass. I even tried to slack off this semester and still scraped an easy A. Lots of extra credit opportunities, very simple material. You only need to study/work for this class like an hour or two per week max.
Took ANTH 300 and 310 with her. She's a very good teacher, 3 masters degrees and 1 PhD. Here's the deal with her: She wants to put the theory into practice. If you participate and AT LEAST try, she'll give you the answer. Raise your hand, do it. Even if you're wrong, at the end of class she'll give you the answers to the test. 4 exams and 4 outlins
While I'm sure she is quite good in their field of expertise, I would venture to say that teaching might not be that field. Not only were lectures very disjointed and jumbled, but also there was inaccurate information given about some topics. All in all, I was incredibly disappointed by her teaching and I'll be taking this from a different prof.
Easy A but not learning anything from her class.
She is an expert in her field. Much of her information is outdated. Not a people's person. Do the extra credit. There are 4 tests and 48 outlines -- study hard for the tests. Anthropology isn't the most interesting, so if you want to take any anthro try someone else. Atheistic approach to information, and supports the liberal agenda. Yikes.
Her stories are interesting because she a lot of experience in the field. She is strict on attendance, 4 exams, 8 outline which are super annoying . She will give you the terms you need to learn for the exam. I actually had to work in this class cause she can be a bit difficult at times. You need the extra credit she gives, don't skip it!
She takes roll everyday. Attendance matters. Seems to have a bad attitude toward those going into nursing, she rolls her eyes when you tell her you are a nursing major. She is very egoistic. Has many degrees and loves to mention them always. It is hard to get past her personality. She does offer lots of extra credit though.
Claims she's organized and took "30 units a semester at UC Davis" but her lectures show otherwise. Don't even get me started on her outlines and grading policy for them. This class isn't worth taking find a better instructor
She doesnt care about you, she only cares about the animals. Super ironic as she complains about zoos and how theyre bad for animals yet she requires you to go to the zoo to do a report. GO FIGURE!! Just like everything else she is unclear with what she wants and says one thing but does another
Dr. Stolba is a very educated woman in her field. 4 test that are LITERALLY based on your notes and she gives you the questions during the study sessions. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT! Don't bother buying the book, just base it off your notes. She treats you like an adult. She is your prof. not your friend. make flashcards, read your notes and you will pass
I took this professor for Anthro 310. Honestly, if you have the option to pick someone else do it! Unless this is your last resort. I took her class and did a lot of readings. As long as you attend class, write everything on the board, and do the outlines correctly you can pass. (even if you're a lazy person)
Dr. Stolba is definitely experienced and a wonderful teacher with humor. She does tend to share a lot of her stories related to her work in the field. Show up to class and take notes, she reads questions right off the tests and gives you the answers. Extra credit is offered so take it up!!!
Once she explained something, she will never go over it again ( when a student asks to repeat something ) she says; I'm not going to repeat again you have to listen carefully.
Dr Stolba was such a fun professor to have. Her class is an easy A if you can simply memorize small facts, she literally tells you exactly what is on the tests each time. The work is easy too, you just need to do it and follow her directions and you'll get an A. Super fun and easy class
Shes like Tracy Morgan..... idk if shes trying to be funny.... but shes funny. VERY SIMPLE CLASS if you can take simple directions and good notes, idk how much longer she will be a professor but shes a good one. Whatever she tells you, is on the test. That simple
She is the worst professor I have ever had! She is rude and unclear. She does not care if you do not understand. If you ask questions be prepared to be called stupid multiple times in front of the whole class. Either take a different class or keep your head down and read the book, because she will not teach you.
I really enjoyed Stolba's lectures. She makes Anthropology fun! She literally tells you what is going to be on the test and you can tell she takes pride in her students whom succeed. I would definitely take her class again!!
This woman is hilarious. I don't think she means to be though. She's the mean professor that everyone loves.
Shes the most rude professor Ive ever had. She makes it hard to approach her outside of class because she will be unnecessarily rude to you and make you feel stupid. I simply asked to look at the grade sheet in an email which she rudely responded that she didnt understand why I didnt already see it. Her voice is monotone and uninteresting.
I did not enjoy this class at all. Lectures were lengthy and disinteresting. Half of her lectures are just personal stories and attendance is required/worth points. She does give review sessions before exams which are helpful. Overall, I would not take this class again or recommend it to another student.
Stoba is a very understanding professior. She gives 4 test and 2 outlines per each test. You will need to do a zoo report. She doesn't give out homework. She wants perfect format on the outlines. She does a reivew day before the test. Shes doesn't like when ppl come in late so thats the only time when shes rude. Over all you need to study and get A
Professor Stolba is a savage(: It's impossible to fail her class unless you don't take notes. 4 exams and no homework at all which is super awesome. Another thing I loved about her is that she doesn't push anyone to believe in evolution or put christians down for believing in God. I'm a christian and I really respected that about her.
Beware of this Professor. She makes you purchase a mediocre at best textbook that she personally wrote so she can collect that profit, which is a nightmare to read if youre an English major. If she doesnt like your personality she will find a way to fail you. Tests are completely different from the lectures. Youve been warned.
She's a good professor. I enjoyed her lectures, she usually has interesting stories. Try to get the same exact format for the outlines as in the syllabus and make the changes she suggest when she checks your rough draft. For the exams just memorize all the stuff she tells you to memorize or mentions in the review. Overall pretty reasonable.
Professor Stolba is not very intelligent either in or field nor as a professor. She does not have the ability to properly teach, she just drones on in her rants about how she was the one who really wrote her textbook, how she has all these degrees. Though as we all know from our experience you can be a good student yet a horrific teacher.
She is a great teacher, simple letures to follow but are followed by tests that cost a lot of your grade. It is all in the lectures though. She is funny and passionate of her job. Would take again
Great teacher
This prof is MIND-NUMBING! If you are at all an intellectual person- DO NOT TAKE! The material is completely worthless and I often question if anything she says is true. Avoid this class unless you absolutely have to take it. The tests and lectures do not sync up at all and she makes you learn some bizarre outline format you will never use again.
Professor Stolba is strange and rude. Do not take this class unless you have no choice. The information is useless unless you have some burning passion for anthropology. She is a sub-par professor at best and it was very difficult to sit through her intellectually-absent lectures. The tests and lectures are often unrelated. Avoid this prof.
Easy class to take for credit, but pretty useless otherwise. Prof. is hard to approach and talk to, acts like she is doing you a huge favor by teaching. You have to take many notes, from which you study for tests. No notes bad grade. Textbook is kinda useless except for outlines. Gives extra credit. Mostly talks about herself and her studies.
Stolba has a lot of knowledge in this field. She is very knowledgeable and has ran many studies. If you are going into Anthropology she is the perfect professor for you. The class rules are clear, if notes are taken and outlines are done you should pass the class just fine. Make sure to study for the test, we have a review day them.
Dr. Stolba is funny without even trying :) She's incredibly knowledgeable in her field and lived in over 30 countries doing extensive research. Her textbook is amazing with a wealth of knowledge and superb history. Her lectures were simply intriguing too. 3 exams and she reviews before each exam, just super awesome and brilliant professor!
