the prof reads notes all class. Every class ur writing from the moment u walk in til u leave. takes attendance n starts class exactly on time. no latenesses. He is disorganized n cancels classes. He's sarcastic, and can be argumentative wit students.
He is kind of fair, we have to take a lot of notes in class but the good news is that the 2 tests are based on your notes and don't even have to look at your book. Got a B in that class, so if you want to get A get in class on time and be a fast writer.
he is OK, but we have to take down every single word he said, tests are based on the notes, easy project
not bad, not good either do not expect to learn anything, just memorize the notes
Just Avoid period.
all you do in his class is take notes..nuthin else..u need to memorize all those notes for the test..didnt learn much...he sucks!!
Recommended. In my class there is no need for notes, everything is i the book. He is nice and knows a lot of intersting stuff, very helpful in general.2 easy HWs.Well, the material itself is ambiguous, but that's not his fault.Only people who have some experience will really enjoy it. Recommended.
I would recommend you to take this professor. All you do in class is write notes. He gives 1 midterm and 1 final. Make sure to study notes and you will do fine. I studied hard for this class and earned B. Not a bad guy and his tests are all multiple choice. He does not give any homework.
recommended prof. very boring class. all you do is take notes. however the test are based on the notes. a really eazy class.
good prof.
This man is terrible!! The minute u walk into the class he takes attendence an lectures! He also picks on ppl randomly to see if they know the material. Not a good prof to take if u don't have a whole day (atleast 10 hours) to review notes b4 an Exam. Got an A-, but that was so hard to get!
Very terrible prof. Doesnt write anything on the board, just dictates from his notes. If you take him, bring a recorder because he read fast. I know about computers but his class made me loathe computers. A lot of material is corny and sometimes wrong.
I dont know why ppl give thi Prof bad ratings b/c he is a nice guy. He gives a 40 question mc midterm and final and they come straight from his notes, so u dont have to buy the book. Also, he gives an easy excel and access project. In class he also tells jokes and stories. Take hiim u can u wont regret it.
Grade: 40%Midterm, 40%Final, 5%(just given), 15%Excel/Access Project. NO TEXTBOOK needed. This class is an easy A, just show up, take notes & study the night b4 the test. He's such a nice guy, corny jokes, calls on people randomly. Tests are very easy, gerneral, & 100% from the notes. Your hand'll hurt from notetaking, but to me it was worth the A.
Smart and fair.
Well prepared.
He made the work interesting.
He really draws the line for grades. Don't EXPECT A CURVE EVEN IF hes say's he'll do it at the end. TESTs are !#$%&*^ tricky!!! If you do take him, read over the questions a few more times even though the answer might be what you think it is, ITS NOT!!! DON"T COUNT ON THE EZ A.
Hes a good professor, show up to class and take notes...tests based on notes
This guy is pretty cool, class isnt hard...
pretty good pro. alot of notes, test come straight out of notes. there is no way of cheatin on his test. reccomended.
He does a fine job of teaching.
Clear and prepared.
You really need to read his notes and book. A lot of work to prepare the exam.
Really outstanding!
he's easy. class is very boring. takes attendance and calls on ppl to answer ques. he reads from the text, and you write everything he says, 3-5 pages of notes per class. exams are straight from the notes. midterm, final. not a difficult class.
HE IS A GOOD PROFESSOR..TAKES ATTENDANCE REGULARLY BUT DOESNT COUNT IT..HOW I KNOW? I ASKED HIM LOL..U DONT HAVE TO BUY THE BOOK AT ALL THE NOTES THAT HE GIVE OH MY GOD R TOO MUCH ITS LIKE HE'S REPEATING THE BOOK SO U EITHER GO TO CLASS TO TAKE NOTES OR BUY $90 BOOK..I WOULD ASK TO GO TO CLASS CAUSE HE EXPLAINS.TESTS R EASY STRAIGHT FROM NOTES
Highly organized and prepared.
All he does is read a book, change a few words and dictate them to you to write down. Not helpfull at all. Unorganized. He is funny sometimes, tells good stories. But im in college to study and understand material with the help of professors, not to listen to bulls***. Are you?
HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENED. LISTEN TO WHAT OTHERS HAVE SAID ABOUT THIS PROFESSOR. TRY SOMEONE WHO TEACHES, BUT NOT REALLY THE TERMS OUT FROM THE TEXTBOOK.
Class is hard...too much to learn...take the other appel...hes so much easier
A ggod claa, if you do your share.
I hate courses that have professors read to you straight out of the book and on top of that like this rare case makes you takes notes. As said before, higly not recommend if you can find someone better. His test are half easy, half hard he puts tricky none of the above for every question. Overall, trully a waste of time and money.
Taking this professor for Cis 2200 is not a wise idea. His exams are very tricky. Instead take his brother J.Appel I heard hes so much easier.
Interesting, detailed lectures. A good intro. course to computers.
Hes not a bad professor, tons of notes to memorize, not a easy class, but if you put in the time and effort to study you can walk away with at least a B.
I took him during the summer and he's pretty funny. The class was easy going! Basically only a midterm and final because the project is optional. The midterm was really easy! Just take good notes and study straight from notes. He's really nice, so take him and learn a lot about computers!!
Tricky guy, don't take him! You won't know CiS any at all. Don't Waste Your Time and $$$.
I got an "A" in this course, from an "A" professor.
One of the best classes I have ever taken.
He is pretending to be smart. But he is not at all. he even doesn't know the capital of Canada (for him it's Toronto). He just dictate tonns of notes exactly from the book. Moreover, he is not familiar with a computer. Horrible proffessor. The questions are very tricky, almost each question has "all of the above" and "none of the above". I've got B
He makes this course enjoyable, as well as informative. I highly recommend him, if you are prepared to work.
A great experience, for learning about computers.
There are 2 APPELs' stop getting them mixed up. I got the hard 1. He reads straight from the text book, so u don't buy it. Test r str8 from notes, almost 30 pgs typed. I took this class in summer and it was very rushed. Study ur notes, spend time in the forest. Not and ez class but I did managed an A-
Please dont get mixed up wid the other Appel....this prof so soo boring...He gives a midterm & Final...no hw...and extra credit which doesnt help...Make sure u read da book and understand it...too many notes...i thought i was a good student...did what he recommended but ended up wid a C...Prepare to do work on ur own...take at ur own risk...
A great introduction to computers. I worked hard, but that's what I came to Baruch to do. I am happy I took this course.
i took this class spring 2005. it was easy, but boring. come to class, take notes (write everything he reads out of the text book). easy B with minimal effort. no HW, optional project. subject itself is dry and boring, but his tests are straight from the notes.
An interesting presentation, concerned with computers in the business world. I found the systems part most beneficial.
He dictates notes word for word. You will hear "next paragraph" over and over again. You will not learn or understand anything. Instead, you will memorize the most useless bits of information from his already silly notes. Tests question example: How many steps are in the CRM process? A)3 B)4 C)5 D)6 E)None of the above. Worst prof. I've had.
His class is boring, but takes your notes seriously. Someone below already told you what his exams look like. If you can memorize all the notes you will do well. Attendance is mandatory.
Study the notes? I was fooled by that one. It is not enough. That is waht we all thought until the final was half from the notes. The other - I guess - you just had to memorize everything he said in the lecture and be lucky to guess. His tests are ridiculously tricky-and you won't learn anything except that your GPA is f*&^.
this class wouldn't have been so bad if he didn't decided to screw us over for the final. The final was supposed to be from the notes that he dictated, but half the material he put on the test wasn't in our notes.
I took CIS 3367, and everybody had to write while he is giving you the definition. He doesn't write on the book, but he define it in very clear sentences. He show you how to do the excel and access function. test questions are very easy and some of them are tricky. Project is optional and can be 15% of ur final grade if you do it. but very easy proj
horrible, this man does not know how to teach, dont take him, whatever you do!!!!!!!!!!!
I took him for the summer session and was a little afraid judging from all the reviews about him so i studied really hard, wrote all the notes he dictated and read them three times over. I ended up getting an A. It's a lot of work, but it's not difficult or impossible. I think a lot of people did well in my class.
I learned alot, but I worked hard every day. Summer school is intense.
He is terrable, and very unfair grader. DO NOT TAKE HIM
I studied every week, and again before the exams. I received an A grade. His notes are very important, so don't cut class. Overall, I learned a lot about computers.
Hooray, I got an "A." The exams were fair, but I busted my chops.
If you like brainless memorization and repetition. Then you should take him...but If you want to increase your interest on the topic and polish your skills, then you should avoid him at all cost. WORST PROFESSOR EVER! He dictates everything and you have to write. He can be easily replaced by a machine.
Just study, take notes pay attention. Lots of Extra Credit questions, overall good guy. Take prof appel.
excellent guy. remember to study his notes before teh tests. all tests are multiple choice. he also gives extra credits question during class. def recommend prof appel. got an A, but i had to work for it.
Class is not hard. No HW, No Projects. Just be sure to take all notes as the 2 exams are based entirely off of them. Teaches class like it's 1st grade. Dictates notes for you to copy word for word. Exam is 30 MC questions and he asks tricky questions sometimes. gives extra credit oral Questions. Also likes to give his political views oddly enough.
Hard class, many topics not covered from dept course description. Notes are important but to get an A, you must also read book. Exams are tricky, w/ questions on uncovered topics. Expectation/clarity on requrements not spelled out so ask lots of questions. Lacks flexibility, no curve. ESL students avoid. Take with him only if you have no choice.
narrow minded, stubborn. all he cares about is reading notes. not open to discussion on topics (ex. answers on exam are what he thinks is right even if his notes suggest something different). you have to try and guess what he's thinking. appears to favor certain students. often late for class. not clear on instructions or project. not a good prof.
Funny guy. He gives the notes word for word, MEMORIZE those notes and you will do fine. Don't even bother getting the book, just make copies of the case studies. Exams were curved. Gives extra credit questions throughout the class. Took him over the summer and got a B+ with only some effort put into it. Just take him and memorize his dictations.
I would simply says he thinks that he is smart but he isnt...beleieve me i hated his class with passion..he discourage participation and make every effort so that student get triked on the exam and he can show his smartnes
Excellent professor. Makes everything clear, and easy to understand. Study a bit, do your work, and you will get a great grade. Def. my Top 5 classes here.
Exceptional
great prof. clear, helpful and knowledgeable. just pay attention to what he says in class and read the textbook to supplement the lecture. realistic A.
This guy knows very little about computers and databases for a professor... just sits there and uses the tutorial from the book, if something goes wrong he has no idea what to do and follows the tutorial in painstaking detail. Exam questions make very little sense and you have to guess what he's trying to get you to answer. Not recommended.
2 tests 40% each and a project. The project is an easy 100. The tests are not hard as long as you memorize your notes as the questions come right from them. He teaches how to use Access exactly as the book does so there is no need to buy it. He is kind of sarcastic and if you give a stupid answer he'll let you know it but a good professor ¬ hard
He is a good prof. Knows his stuff, will teach you access, get your good grade, and move on. Pleasant experience. Recommended.
Excellent prof!!! Good class. Not the easiest A, but a very fair A. Has a sense of humor at times, lol. Oh, and he takes attendance but doesn't hold it against you if you're absent.
Learned how to use databases. He teaches well and gives clear notes. He takes attendance but doesn't count absences against you. Can be funny at times. Overall good teach.
good prof. take prof appel if u can. i had him last semester and it was a good class
one midterm and one final, all MC. and there was a curve. just make sure to study the notes he gives because that will allow you to do well on the test. and he has a dry sense of humor but its funny
I read all "great prof" comments. So sad nobody knows nothng about computer in this school. Disappointed by students. 2 exams 1 stupid project. who use access today???? All is sql!he sits there and reads the book exactly. exams m/c.memorize his stupid notes line by line as a moron you will get good grade. such a loser. he should teach literature
Very clear notes, but also very challenging exams. You have to def. work for your grade. Lots of studying required.
Horrible professor. If you want to ruin your GPA take him. He does not cover SQL, which needed for a job. For his class you would have to write a lot in class. He is very mean and thinks that he is the best. Many of my students got C, D grades. We had 1 A and a few B s in 26 people`s class. Do not recommend.
Horrible professor doesnt know how to teach and exams are completely useless in determining who knows their stuff. Reads out of the book and doesnt know what he is teaching and makes exams based on things which dont matter to the subject, completely useless.
HE DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO TEACH! Wish I could give a lower rating based on attributes. Copy word for word from his lectures because he takes the test based on that. Tests are extremely unclear and AMBIGUOUS! Makes the tests himself. Would learn more by doing textbook myself because that's what he does in class: Teach from the TEXTBOOK!
what a horrible horrible professor. he should NOT be teaching at all. all he does is read his lectures word for word and makes you memorize everything. i learned more by reading the textbook. avoid him at all cost.
Worst of all. All he does in class is reading the textbook. He kept insisting that all tests would be based on his powerpoint slides but everything was from his testbank not from the slide. When students comlplained, he simply ignored it. My aggregate GPA before him was 3.90. Darn it.
He's against grade inflation and grades on a bell curve- 5-10% get A's, 5-10% get F's. No required attendance but you're expected to take down what he says word for word and memorize it for two exams- 30 mc questions 40% each plus a group project worth 20%. You can get an A in this course without ever using Access. I dropped the course early on.
Super easy class, took it in the fall... great sense of humor and if you are a finance/ accounting major especially this will be the most valuable class you take at Baruch, learning Excel. He's surprisingly lenient and helpful if you approach him and everyone I knew did really well in the class.
Really Horrible professor, I went to class everydaytook notes& read notes for exam notes are confusing exams are horribly worded and made to confuse i would recommend no one to take this course and if you took this class drop it He will make your life horrible by giving you low grade despite of your efforts Wont learn excel by just reciting books
really hard to pass his test. His class is just reading the slides with little explanation. papers write in groups. His test is multiple choices............. I just have a hard time to get good test scores.
Completely unqualified to teach. The ENTIRE course he sat in a chair and literally dictated from the textbook, each sentence 3X, for students to copy what he said. Doesn't answer questions. "That's what the book says". Tests not based on material covered. Makes you memorize nonsense and things you will never use. Avoid AVOID! Will ruin your GPA!
WOW he's a horrible professor. He makes you write four FULL pages of notes that he dictates to you from a textbook. His notes are 95% stories and useless example. He gives you no direction as to what you should study for the Midterm and Final so you end up having to memorize 20 pages of notes. Oh yeah and his grading is completely subjective.
Honestly a horrible professor. Sure his notes were clear, albeit rather long. But his tests are tricky and he finds the slightest faults in your projects as an excuse to drop your grade. Can't erase on Scantron, otherwise it gets marked wrong. He doesn't care at all. Not an understanding man who wants to see his students do well.
This man should not be teaching. Reads word for word from the textbook and that's it. Also makes the most confusing exam questions so that knowing the material doesn't even help. Take another professor if you actually want to learn excel/get a better grade.
Attendance is not mandatory which is awesome. No textbook needed, he tests you on 20 pages of notes which were very simple. Study the notes and do well on two non cumulative exam and you will get an easy A.
