He is fairly easy, but gives alot of reading. There are three books you must read that count for an essay, one book per test. He gives good notes.
this guy gives a****load of notes...almost 300 pages total.. but he curved the**** out of our tests b/c everyone did really bad.. he tries to be funny and cuss in class but he is kind of a doosh
So cool! I know he gave tons of notes and there was a lot of info but he made the class sooo interesting and even though it was a super difficult class I wanted to work my butt off for him because he was just such a great teacher. two very enthusiastic thumbs up!
Even though there are a lot of notes, all of his slides were printable and you can just take them to class and write what you need to on them. We read three books and had to do a worksheet that, if you read the book, helped your grade. He is a real cool professor and even though i hate history, I really enjoyed this class!
He gives a butt load of notes...Test consist of 5 or more lectures on one test. If you dont already know history DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!! He cusses and if you dont go with what he says he get upset. Outline of test are 25 m/c 5 identifiy 25pts essay over the book. The essay HAS to be high in detil to get even close to 25 pts. HE IS HARD!!!!!!!!
Yes, he gives a lot of notes that you print from the internet and use in class. However, he was very interested in what hes teaching and makes learning much easier. He truly has a passion for what he does and it shows. Great teacher. Tests usually consist of multiple choice, identify/short answer, and an essay. Good teacher.
He is very cool. I didn't lke history at first but when I got in there he made me learn more than I ever did before. You have to put effort into what you do and you have to study if you are not a history person. My major is Accounting and I hate history personally but he is like a human textbook. If u don't study don't take but if do then u cool.
Great professor! I loved this guy! You can learn so much from him - but you have to work hard to do well. He's so cool, and he makes boring history FUN!
He's very passionate about what he teaches & it makes you pay attention. Read the books that are required & do the worksheets. They help your grade tremendously. Most fail 1st test b/c his tests are hard. 25 mult choice, you choose 5 out of 8 identifies- need dates and SIG, then essay question on the book. Would recommend class. attendance counts!
If you don't want to study or work extremely hard, DO NOT take him. Read 3 books. Tests are 25 multiple choice. Each Q and A are paragraphs. A total ass and isn't afraid to admit it. In the marines...enough said. Cusses like a sailor. Not a pleasant man except on test days, ironically or when you're not in class.
This teacher is not helpful and is very hard. He does not explain whats on tests and you have to do alot of ponitless reading. DO NOT take this class unless you are ready to drop it!
This guy is definately an ass and the worst part, he knows it. Now that he's out of the marines and is forced to teach in a college classroom he is definately on a power trip. Tests are diffcult to say the least. Attendance is mandatory. And... he likes to run a 75 minute class an average of about 80 minutes.
You must be up to the challenge, but it is worth it. I managed a B in his tough U.S. history course, but I learned A LOT. The extra reading is less enjoyable. If you drop a lot of classes, don't sign up for him. I personally endorse him, but realize the average college student probably will drop his courses.
His lectures are quick, no time to really let the information sink in. Hard tests that can cover anything from his lectures. No clue as to what is on the tests. Essays on 3 books that you don't get to use the books on the test to help show details from but your expected to be able to quote from the book. He is hard and doesn't care about helping!
He is kinda hard but if you read and listen in class its not so bad
i got a d in this class but i will be fair when i rate smith... he is no doubt passionate about history and you can sense it thru the lectures. you have plenty of materials to pass-- he give you the outlines and he wrote his own textbook. BUT THOSE DAMN TESTS ! NO STUDY GUIDE on tests tht cover 8-9 chapters each so YOU MUST KNO EVERYTHING...
Great Professor. Had him for world history. His tests are really difficult, specially the multiple choice, but you can make up for it with the essay. Had to read three novels, but they were very interesting. This class will challenge you but he is extremely helpful and smart. Straight lecture class.
He's a funny guy. Pretty easy to get along with & will help u if u need it. The first test is a lil rough but after that step u get a hang of the class. Also, his lectures can be boring sometimes. But over all he knows his stuff & he's a good teacher.
Alright well this guy can be brutal, If you plan on showing up to class late or texting in class, be prepared he will not hesitate to humiliate you. This guy is brilliant and to be honest his class can be passed with easily if you really understand how to take notes. He is a little intimidating, which inst good if you need him outside class.
I have this guy for world history. I do not recommend him to anybody unless you are extremely studious. I have alot of hard classes on top of this guy and I would consider his class to be the hardest one. He throws way too much info at you way too quickly. I will most likely be dropping his course. Don't take it!
He's hilarious, but he talks way too fast. Everything comes from the lectures, you must go to class because he takes 10% of your grade after 3 absences. You also have to read the books he assigns because you have to write an essay about them on each test.
funny prof. He gives a lot of notes but 10% of grade is attendance and he may give extra credit. another 10% of grade is reading books. Just be ready to study
Does not explain well.
The reading material is actually interesting, and there is a textbook but he puts an outline of the notes online so that was a plus. If I put more effort into the class I would have made a much better grade. I failed every test and came out w/ a C just for doing the worksheets and showing exceptional improvement on the final.
Hilarious professor, but he does talk really fast. You do have to take a lot of notes. The tests are sort of difficult, but he is, contrary to popular belief, merciful -- at the end of my class he let us do an optional extra credit essay worth 8 points on our final grades (meaning if you had an 80 in the class, your grade would jump to an 88).
He's an interesting guy but he's extremely rude and incapable of censoring his thoughts. You will take A LOT of notes and the tests are drawn from them and outside reading he assigns.
The class content is really boring but Smith is really funny and has no filter so he is easy to listen to. Read the books and do the worksheets.. they will help you in the long run. Tests are very difficult. Just pay attention, take notes, study and go to class and you come out with a B.
HARDEST TEACER EVER! Do not take him. His lectures do no make ANY sense. It is nearly impossible to take notes. Every slide has about 1,000 words and he goes to fast. Only a few grades in the class, and the tests are nearly impossible. His multiple choice is ridiculus. Whatever you do, do NOT take him.
Very difficult teacher. Lectures take up the entire class, he is very unclear with what will be on the test. He is a nice man outside of class, but is very strict and will call a student out with no problem. Would NOT reccommend him, there are easier teachers offered at GSU
Despite previous reviews I'll say Solomon Smith is a great teacher. He expects no bs from students and is sometimes a bit tough because of this but he is very helpful and enthusiastic about his subject. He does assign readings but they are interesting. If you do the reading and listen to the lectures the class is not too difficult.
GREAT instructor but the assignments are truly difficult. You'll have to study several hours to make a B or low A, so his class is a good wake-up call for those who don't take college seriously. May come off as offensive, but don't take it personally.
Hes a great teacher and speaker but his class is so time consuming. You are constantly reading and studying just to get a C or B. Nothing against him, but if there is another class you can take, do it. His class is a constant stressor and you can only do so well in it.
His class was extremely hard and I didn't do very well on the tests, BUT I went everyday, participated in class, and did well on essay portions and I got an A! He's very interesting and a total hard ass, but he's also very funny. (lewd, but funny) Cool guy. Don't text in class!
The worst teacher I have taken in my entire time at GSU.
Tough tough tough
absolute worst teacher i have ever had, including high school. Never helped me with anything, gave horrible lectures, and gave extremely hard assignments and tests. Kicked students out of class on a daily basis. He thinks he is teaching a doctorate level class when he is really teaching freshman. DO NOT TAKE his class you will regret it!!!
Good teacher but assigns excessive amounts of work outside of class. If you follow his directions and LISTEN then his class is not difficult and you will learn a lot.
Pretty Good teacher. Only assignments for the entire semester are 3 tests and 3 worksheets. Tests are very hard. Routinely kicks people out of class for very trivial reasons. Avoid this teacher as much as possible.
Super hard class. Half of his students drop after the first exam. If you aren't willing to read the textbook chapters, 30+ pages of notes, and a novel to go with each of the 3 tests, then I don't recommend this class.
I took this class online and it was a nearly impossible work load. Super hard grader, avoid at all costs!!!
Gives great lectures in class. Pretty stern though. He will kick students out all the time. No big deal if you listen and pay attention. He's much better in person. Listen to the lectures and take plenty notes on the slides and READ the assigned books and do the worksheets and you should be fine.
Smith is a good professor in that he knows what he is talking about, and that's about it. I would HIGHLY suggest NOT taking him.
Smith is a good teacher. He knows his stuff and is willing to answer any questions. Unless it's What color is George Washington's white horse, he might look at you funny. Listen to his lectures and copy the notes. Upper level classes watch movies and do water balloon fights. Easy to get along with. Very funny and sarcastic. Beware, he is a Marine!!
Avoid this class if possible, especially as a freshman. Barely scraped by with a C and I practically memorized the textbook. CANNOT get by without the textbook. Awful tests consisting of 25 multiple choice, 5 short answer, and a 6 page essay. DO NOT TAKE HIM he has unrealistic expectations. That being said, he knows a lot about history.
Solomon Smith is a brilliant man when it comes to history, and his class is very interesting. That being said, it has been one of the hardest classes I've taken in college. You will read a lot outside of class, and READ HIS TEXTBOOK. Don't take this class as a freshman or as an elective. An A is possible, but realistically expect a B
This is the worst teacher at GSU. BE WARNED DO NOT TAKE HIM. There were 160 students in the class to begin with and by the end there were 50. He cussed us out on the first day of class and accuses everyone of plagiarism. After weeks of extra credit I still received a C. DO NOT TAKE
His test may be very difficult and hard to pass, but he is by far the best history teacher I have ever had. He knows his stuff and has a sense of humor like no other. If you are not willing to do a lot of reading and studying, do not take him. But if you want to learn a lot of history, he's the man you want to take.
He seems to have improved this semester from the previous where he was branded this hardcore tyrant and perfectionist. His lectures have been rather enjoyable, and the online games are no longer required. Moves fast though, no slides online, MUST be present to take notes or you'll bomb exams. Overall, it's actually one of my easier classes.
Honestly, He's the worst teacher I've ever had. I had him for 'Pirates In Film', a course that I was under the impression would be pretty easy, since it's, you know, an FYE. Instead I got a constant stream of papers and assignments that I received very low quality feedback for. FYE should not be a constant source of stress, but with him it is.
He was the worst teacher I've ever had. If you have him RUN. Get out of there as soon as possible. I am an all A and B student, had an A in Environmental Bio Lab class but some how failed his "Pirated in Film" First year experience class... I busted my butt to get an A and still failed. He was very mean. Good luck if you have him.
American history, toughest tests I've ever had to take. You'll celebrate when you come out with a C but he's a very good teacher and I still have the utmost respect for him and his class. Just study all the material he gives IN CLASS and READ THE BOOKS he assigns for each test. The last book you'll read is the most moving book I've ever read.
Professor Smith is clearly so passionate about history and helping you to understand what he's teaching. It's a lot of material to cover in one semester, and you HAVE to read the books for each test but if you put in the effort and listen to him you'll be fine! The tests are tough, but just read the books and take notes.
This class was taken over the summer and was the hardest class I have taken. It had three groups broken down into sections of 5 with over 15 lectures that were an hour long and you couldn't understand half of what he's saying because he breathes into the mic. The quizzes are hard and long and are over 5 of the sections. Essays grading was a joke.
TERRIBLE professor. Class busy workmemorization. Lectures are at least 1hr 15mn. I took about 30 pages of typed notes for each lecture & it didn't even help. The essay grading is ridiculous. The worst. He couldn't even find my thesis. I'm a writing major. Took off points for late essay but I turned it in 3 days early, wouldn't give points back.
This class is literally a crap shoot. I am a straight A student and got a B in the course because no matter how hard I read or studied the lectures, I only got one A on a quiz... Also his grading the essays is a joke. He counts off MAJOR for grammar and honestly has no clue what he is talking about when correcting it. STAY AWAY
He is the best lecturer I ever had, you really need to pay attention though, because he goes thru the slides very fast, bust as English my second language, was very easy to understand him and learned a lot. something that happened that I didn't care but really bothered a lot of people is that he will not let you use your phone.
Assigns a ton of reading(three books and a textbook he wrote himself). The textbook is basically the text from his power points. He is extremely unpleasant, I cannot stress this enough. Do not take his class. He will scream at you for talking, using a phone, or sitting in the wrong seats. Seats are assigned.
Everyone gives him a hard time, but he really just wants his students to pay attention. I went to all the lectures, read the books, and studied and was able to make an A. You have to put in the work, but it is a good class. Only thing is he doesn't want you on your phone, but lectures take up most of the time anyways.
He has a strict attendance policy of 3 classes and then you fail. You have to read books that are difficult to understand. He is rude to an student that so much as whispers in his class or looks at their phone. Test are long tedious but information is in the book and you better be able to quote and write 6 pgs on the assigned reading w/o the book.
Tough class, I highly suggest YOU DO NOT TAKE THIS MANS CLASS. I read the negative feedback myself and didn't believe in the hype. Smith has made me a believer though.
This class was difficult. The tests are very long and if you don't read the books you won't pass. He is a tough grader; however, Smith gives opportunities for extra credit. If you pay attention, read the books, and put in some effort you will do fine in his class.
He loves what he teaches, but he's very firm in his beliefs.
He's a great teacher but only 3 test all of which are extremely hard. I studied a LOT and managed to get a 89
Really passionate about his topic, but not very helpful when it comes to questions. Has very sassy responses when asked anything and publicizes his feelings about the questions asked using Folio. Not very clear with instructions for projects/homework and will penalize you for not knowing instructions that were not clearly stated.
He gives 3 test which your grade is based off but there was extra credit for every test and if you studied the material and read the books assigned it was a well manageable class. Started studying about two nights before for every test and read the books last minute and made A's. You can miss 3 classes before you fail for attendance section.
He is hard, he is tough, he is sassy, he is one of the best teachers I have every had. If you actually care to learn something take his class. It does demand your focus and attention, but his passion for history will keep you engaged. He always gives extra correct, and if you aren't the one he is calling out in class, you will do just fine.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. I repeat DO NOT. Solomon is the most unpleasant man I've ever encountered. You might pass his class, but you will suffer through all of it. Tests are very hard, don't read the book? You'll fail. He will kick you out of class for talking or maybe even breathing wrong. Don't look him in the eyes and don't draw attention urself
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS. He is rude and always in an awful mood. He yells and will kick you out for doing absolutely nothing. You will be miserable going to his class every day. Yes, he may give extra credit but it is the hardest extra credit you will ever do. I withdrew from his class because he was so unbearable. Do not take.
HE IS THE WORST. I struggled so much in this class. He is so mean to the students. His tests are 40 multiple choice questions along with a MINIMUM 3 page essay over the assigned book (there are 3 and they are boring). He said the good essays are like 6-12 pages. He wrote his textbook, so be prepared to read it.
He's very strict, but I got an A in this class with minimal effort. As long as you take notes and listen, don't talk in class, and read (at least half) of the book, you'll pass this class with ease even if you aren't a history person. I wish all professors were like him, very easily my fav. Tests are easy, do the extra credit. HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR WHATEVER YOU DO . I had to watch 7 and a half hours average per quiz to take one 50 questions quiz that was over 5 chapters. He was super unclear in the syllabus and changed quiz due dates at the last minute. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR
I enjoyed this class. The lectures were PowerPoint and very wordy. I wouldn't try copying word for word, you won't be able to write everything down. Assignments were really interesting and unique! Tests are online but difficult if you don't have good notes. He is nice and easy to get along with. He is a fairly easy grader. I finished with an A
Solomon Smith is the best professor I have ever had. He knows so much and is a very engaging lecturer. To get an A you need to be in class everyday and take GOOD notes. He is a tough professor but I promise if you put in the work you'll get more than what you paid for.
This professor is terrible at teaching. All his lectures are lengthy and fast paced. His lectures include slide shows with a ridiculous amount of information and a VERY short amount of time to write down all the important details. Also his tests do not cover the information that was given to us.
I took his FYE History of Baseball class being a big baseball fan and thinking it to be a fun, easy A. I was wrong. Everyday we take the full time to go over power points full of notes. We also have to write 10 papers (over 750 words each) over a stupid online baseball game. I recommend staying away from this class and getting into an easier FYE.
He is the worst teacher I ever had do not take him the test is impossible to pass if you didn't read the three books and his extra credit is the hardest thing on the planet
Don't take this professor. He is the worst. FYE is supposed to be an easy A. Struggling to get a B. Too much homework for a joke class. Very rude as well.
I took him for FYE and had to write a 6 page book report, weekly readings, heavy lectures, score the world series, and am currently writing 10 papers (750 words each) on a baseball simulation. Not to mention I have to summarize the whole thing in a separate paper of 1500 words. WHAT EVER YOU DO DO NOT TAKE HIM FOR FYE CLASSES.
I have him for FYE right now, after talking to friends in other classes it's clear that his class has the most unreasonable work of any FYE. He is making us write 9000+ words on a simulation game that is not very user friendly. He is also rude and not good at communicating due dates or even his expectations of assignments. Don't take him for FYE.
He is my favorite professor this semester. His lectures are very engaging. He gives you 10 questions that are going to be on the tests and gives you 10 extra credit points for all of his tests, and all you have to do is listen to music or watch a movie. He definitely not an easy professor but if you take good notes and listen you'll do well.
This class isn't impossible, but it is the hardest class I have ever taken. All he does is lecture for a solid hour and 15 minutes. There is only three tests, all of which cover an insane amount of information and on top of that, you have to read a novel and write a 3 page essay on it. I ended with an A, but only after about six mental breakdowns.
The key to this class is to take notes by the important topics. There are some points where he goes into detail and others where he breezes through slides depending on scheduling. There are 3 books which are not terrible and in class essays on each which are fair. Extra credit comes after tests. The MC on the tests have no tricks. Good, funny guy.
Professor Smith is great. If you were educated in the South he will question lots of history you have learned prior. He teaches with passion and knows when to take a tangent. You will learn a lot in this class. However, the structure of his class makes it challenging. It is not an easy A.
He is the worst professor I ever had. This guy needs to realize we are all taking this class just to pass and mark it done. We aren't trying to be historians, so let up.
He is a really nice guy but his class is boring, he talks alot, and his test are very hard.
Soloman is a good professor but his class can be a hand full. It's a lecture class and he talks too much. If you aren't disciplined do not take his class.
Looks like Vince Vaughn.
If you have to take FYE do not take this man. He is your classic grumpy old man. He gives way to many assignments. Hes not reasonable on anything. FYE IS SUPPOSED TO BE AN EASY CLASS DONT GET SUCKED INTO THE TOPIC HISTORY OF BASEBALL im warning you now take a different teacher for this class!
HIST2110 is normally a 17-week course. Let me be clear: DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE IN THE SUMMER. We only had 4 weeks to do the most work I have ever done in any college course. 27 modules that each take 4-5 hours at a minimum. Tests are very hard. Most students got a failing test average. Have to use Lockdown browser. Not for the faint of heart.
Dr. Solomon gives amazing lectures week in and week out. He manages to keep a high level of energy from the beginning until the end, using creative videos and informative lectures, as well as a witty sense of humor to keep his students/audience attentive and alert. Because slides and lecture are both intense alleviate stress by voice recording :
Dr. Smith is a good guy. However, his lectures are very extensive and covers a lot of information in each class. His tests are 50 questions roughly, but do not reflect the lecture material very well. It is very challenging to memorize each and every detail. Great guy/ professor just not a fan of how the class is set up.
True history class that is pure heavy lecture. If you don't do well on the three tests its very hard to pass. Homework isn't very easy either. Some people hate him and some love him. Classic grumpy old man that doesn't expect crap. Can be offensive to some and will call you out in class. Don't take if you can't take strong vulgarity either.
he is a very good history teacher but if you miss a class you miss so much and the test are beyond hard and I study for a week straight and still make a low grade on it
His class is lectures from beginning to end. You have to go to class and study if you want to do well. His tests questions are very specific over a ton of information. He does give a lot of extra credit and hell help your grade if he knows youre trying
Hes alright. The lectures are very in depth with makes it hard to study for any of the three tests youll have. Theres a lot of material he puts on his slides so its better to just print off the notes. I found it very hard to study for this course but if you like history then go for it.
Great teacher. If you feel like being inspired and learning the actual truth within history, you will like him. If you have no aspirations of learning and are only there for an easy grade, switch teachers immediately
I took this class over summer which was kind of difficult considering there were 27 lectures each ranging about an hour. The test are super hard and requires a lot of studying even then it was hard. Theres extra credit but it requires you to listen to a 2 hour musical and then write a 2000 word paper on it.
27 online powerpoint lectures that are an hour to an hour and a half long. Only 3 tests that are worth 75% of your grade, and then 35% of online readings and quizes. There was SO much information you have to know for each test because there are only 3, so good luck.
Just find a different class to take. Total of 4 grades in the class, 3 of which are exams. 27 lecture modules saturated with information. Oh, he does have lecture notes... which are than the lectures. Test questions are vague or hard to understand. 1 minute per question so be ready. Google? lol good luck. Good part? It's at your own pace....
Online lectures, in person class is for discussion not covering new materials. He bought the cheapest mic he can find at a garage sale. While he recorded the lectures he stuck the mic in his mouth. All I can hear is static and pops. POP POP POP. He couldn't have found a cheaper mic to use. Please only take this class if you have no other option.
Prof. Smith is very knowledgeable but he wants you to work for your grade. If you like history, I recommend him.
The test are lots of information, but this class is definitely passible. You have to study, do the work, and go to class or do online lectures. This is not an easy class; you will have to work for your grade (even in an online format). Dont get behind or youll be left with a lot of work. He also gives a ton of extra credit.
I was not a fan of his class. His homework is more for extra information and not actually used in the tests. If you do not listen to his lectures, you will not pass the class. Majority of his lectures have the worst sound quality and were made in 2013. He told my class that he has redone some but it was only the last 2!
He is an unreasonable teacher with grading and how many grades are put in the grade book (it only 3). He's really heavy on "well theres extra credit this... extra credit that" which doesn't help Don't take this class if you wanna pass
Do not skip class! Attendance is only worth 10% but it will help you tremendously at the end. Lectures are long the sound quality is bad so it is better to go to class and listen to them in person. Tests are hard. The rest of the work is on a website and the modules are sometimes long and the quizzes are hard. Gives extra credit but its long.
I didn't really like US History before this class, but his unfiltered passion and knowledge made it interesting. The textbook has all the assignments- space them out! For lectures, print the ppts before, add extra notes in class, then make flashcards. Review the written form if you missed anything. You definitely have to study but it's worth it
If you miss a day it's crucial that you go on folio and listen to the lectures that he posts on there or you will fall behind very quickly. He talks very fasts and moves from slide to slide very quickly so if you cannot retain information fast I don't recommend this course. there's only 3 test and few quizzes on the website along with the textbook.
Worst professor/teacher I have ever had. Very disrespectful and does not care about the actual learning of students. 3 tests and required attendance. Would not ever want to take him again.
Professor Smith is not my favorite, attendance is definitely mandatory if you miss 4 you automatically fail. He gives 3 major testes and so many assignments on globalyceum that are not even on the test basically busy work, and he zooms through each lecture.
He's a great person, approachable at office hours & loves history. However, even if it's a computer error, if it isn't on his end then you won't get full credit. Does give a lot of extra credit. 3 50 questions tests and globalyceum that is worth a quarter of your grade. You can also receive extra credit on it. No clear way to study. Don't Recommend
His PowerPoints were too broad for the specific topics he has on his tests
Very lecture heavy, you should try to miss very few as there is a lot to cover each day. Three 50 question quizzes and the Globalyceum textbook to cover. Gives a lot of extra credit, very helpful. Professor Smith is very knowledgeable about history, and loves teaching. He is accessible outside of class and he is open to any and all questions.
His class is based purely on his lectures. If you miss a couple days of class you can't do his extra credit which can bring your grade up by 30 points, so make sure to go. He gives you a TON of info and you have to figure out what's important. Tests are hard if you don't study. Great lecturer though very funny and entertaining.
He is a very unreasonable professor. He cusses during lectures and moves too fast. He has test that are recorded and on a lockdown browser. From my experience he is mean and sarcastic. I definitely do not recommend this for a social studies credit!
Since I love history he was really a great professor! He does go through his lectures pretty quick but as long as you pay attention, you will be fine. He does 3 tests throughout the whole semester. there are 10 point (to the final grade) extra credit opportunities for each test. You can only do extra credit if you haven't missed more than 5 days.
taking this class was the worst decision I've ever made. this professor is absolutely ridiculous and is NOT someone who works with his students. VERY unclear syllabus and instructions on every assignment. the whole class is graded upon 4 exams and that's all. lockdown browser requires with camera.
This is not a class to take online for a mini semester. You need to commit to atleast 2 hrs a day/ recorded lectures have terrible audio. Very heavy on information. Definitely difficult for those who work a fulltime job(12hr shifts) and taking other courses. Xtra credit assignments also very time consuming.
Absolutely awful. 3 tests that are each 25% of your grade. The first test had an average of 50%. Just awful
He is a great guy for sure, but his work is way too hard. I'm not smart but I'm not stupid either. Like I said really nice guy just needs to work on how he teaches.
I took Georgia History with Solomon Smith and it is one of the hardest classes I've attempted. He doesnt give you access to his slides and reads through them like its a race and packs a whole chapter onto one slide. He isn't understanding, even if the whole class is struggling with his lecture style and has voiced it. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.
I see a lot of complaints, but I'll be honest his class was easy. His lectures were long and boring, but if you show up to class then you get the opportunity to get 30 bonus points on your final grade by doing small essays after the tests. He even offered another 10 points for us showing up the last day of classes and doing a small questionnaire.
Do not take this class! He speeds through lectures, giving you no time to take notes. I don't mind not being able to take notes on a computer, but it was extremely hard to write notes down with a pen & paper at the speed he speaks at. I found him very rude and the class is very exam heavy, you have to do well on every exam to pass the class.
Stay away from this professor! Overall grade is made up of 3 tests which are 50 questions each on lockdown browser with camera. Does not answer questions just makes a comment "it's in the syllabus" every time. Not helpful at all. You have to dedicate all your free time to this class and still won't pass. Awful professor. STAY AWAY!
Do NOT take this class if you don't have to. No technolgoy so all notes are written by hand, and he does not post lectures online. Tests are super specific and hard. The only thing that saved me were the 3 extra credit essays that added 10 points to your final grade (each did). DONT do it unless you realy wanna write
Lectures move fast, but are uploaded online. Globalyceum work feels like a lot, but can be done quickly. Syllabus is clear and informative. Globalyceum and 3 tests are each 25% of your grade. Dr.Smith offers many 3 big opportunities for extra credit, and each adds 10 points on top of your grade. Attendance is only mandatory for extra credit.
He conducts 7-10 lectures about 1-1 1/2 hours long each and then gives a 50 question quiz on random information that may or may not be in the lecture, no notes allowed.
Lectures are long and he moves fast but they are all posted online. There are only 3 test worth 25% of your grade so failing one of them would determine if you passed or not. He offers 3 extra credit essays worth 10 points added to your test, but they are difficult topics. Attendance is optional but he counts it for extra credit if you come.
He wasn't that bad as the reviews say he is. Even though I wouldn't take him again the extra credit he gives are amazing and boosted my grade a lot. The Globalyceum assignments are very annoying but there are not that many. Overall he isn't that bad, but I don't recommend.
Professor Smith moves quickly through lectures, so you'll need to stay focused. The content is interesting, but it's a challenging class. unstuck AI and the textbook were super helpful for keeping up with the material.
Cannot use technology in his class, none of the lecture materials are posted for you to review; What you write down is all you have. There are weekly reading quizzes (13), a midterm, and a final, but he gives extra credit that boosts your grade by a letter.
The average of every exam was in the 60s. Attendance usually matters but at some point he said he wasn't allowed to count it as a grade anymore which was great cuz the lectures were pointless. Do the extra credit and get the online assignments done and the points will add up in the end. Doesn't respond to emails at all.
I mean he isn't that bad, but he does give huge quizzes but they aren't that bad if you pay attention to globalicyum and do extra practice on khan academy. I mean I wouldn't take him again but these reviews are too critical, hes strict but for the better.
Mr. Smith's class isn't that bad. As long as you keep up with the work, study, and take advantage of extra credit, you should do well. The textbook on Globalceum has lectures with a read aloud option, plus a 20 question quiz after each lecture that can really help your grade.
I bet Dr. Smith is a great guy outside the classroom, but I would not want him as my professor. He goes through his presentations so quick that It can be very difficult to comprehend the information. He also does not allow notes to be taken online, so be ready to write. There are also only 3 tests that make up 80% of the class.
Attendance isn't mandatory, but it's extra credit. The only things grades for this class are 3 tests and textbook quizzes. The tests are online with a complete lockdown browser/ camera and are difficult. He does give extra credit which are 3 essays but each one adds 10 points to your final grade SO DO THEM IT WILL HELP!
