this lady is crazy!! hellah cool teacher though!

Overall an excellent course and lots of fun. Anybody you complains she is unfair or hard was obviously not prepared for the class in the first place. It may seem difficult but you can look back at the end and see how much you learned. I had a great time.

if you want to be in a class where you are free to speak your mind -- this is it. she will not tolerate rude comments, but she will allow you to explore ideas in great depth.

This teacher is the most rockin teacher around. Totally uber in every way an english teacher can be. I will take her again for Critical Thinking. If you looking for an english teacher with compassion that actually cares, then this is the teacher for you!

Ms. Domburian challenges her students to give their very best. Her guidance is clear and concise. Overall she is an excellent teacher that is tough yet fair. Two thumbs up.

shes so much fun! shes hilarious & interested in what her students have to say! watch out, you get assigned a term paper the first week, but its on a way interesting topic! shes funny & relates so well to her students. i recommend this class. shes awesome!!

At first I was skeptical of her, because she uses the term: "effing" a lot. And it gets annoying. Anyway she turned out to be pretty fabulous. This is NOT a hard class. Try not to take advantage of your freedom of speech and act like a dumbass.

i loved her. she is so freaking awsome. the best english teacher on this campus. i got her by luck my first english course, and afer her went through two others until i asked her when she was teaching at MP again...i love her:) you need to have a sense of humor and some intellect to get through with her. ask lots of questions. dont be afraid either!! shes awsome!

i have taken sona twice because i love her as a teacher. if you can get over her way of teaching the class you will be fine. there is a lot of group work and she is a fair grader, not easy. she does take some getting used to but if you do, you will enjoy her

she is a very enjoyable person. there are a lot of group activities that kind of make class a little bit more interesting. there are about 4 papers and not really any homework. if you need a good grade and some fun for english, this is the teacher to take!

She is a tough grader, however I learned a lot from her. I learned how to be a better writer and as long as you have an interesting class the group discussions can be beneficial also. I did not find her annoying at all!

She demands a lot from you, but she's very fair. She expects you to think critically, not just turn work in like some teachers. She treats everyone like an equal, even if you don't know how to act. Yeah, the drafts can get annoying but I realized how they they helped me locate problems before they turned up in the final draft.

Very fun class. A lot of group work with different people makes time go by fast. Only about 4 papers. Found to be very entertaining. If you need an A you better find someone else though. I would bet A's are impossible but B's and C's are not hard at all. I definitely recommend. She-She-Foo-Foo-La-La-La.

It's like this: if you don't want to work, don't take her. If you want to do something, take her and expect to work hard. She's helped me in more than just English, and not just because she cares. She gives it to you straight--whoever you are--expecially when you don't do your best or act like a donkey's you-know-what. She's genuine--and hilar

Took her for intro. to writing years ago, then came back for 1A last semester. There are NO surprises with this one. You always know where you're at since she guides you the whole way. Very fair, very nice, and really funny, and treats you like an equal. Class goes by very quickly with her because she makes it fun. You can be yourself too.

I don't know what everyone is talking about, if her class is hard then all of Moorpark must be easy. The only reason someone might say it's hard is because she makes you think. No textbook, enjoyable class. Just participate. Wonderful ideas and she actually teaches you. Taught at USC, college level thinking. Amazing.

She is great, the only reason she got a bad rating is because lazy kids don't expect teachers to be tough but they should be tough.. you learn more that way! Her and I got into a couple arguments but she is a great english teacher and I passed with an A. Its not an easy course but english is my subject... if you work hard she'll grade fairly.

Sona rocks! Seriously, I felt like the discussions held in her class not only benefited me for preparation for my essays but also to my thought process of my own life, putting things in perspective. Her class is enlightening :0) Oh and I got an A on every paper and not all of them were my best work.

Went into this class expecting HS or officestructure & instead learned to THINK...*grins* She challenges your thought processes, teases the best work out of you, and holds you accountable when you don't provide it. Toughest English class I've ever taken, planning to take more of her classes before I graduate. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

looks like a nut job but is really funny and the class is more of a socializing class. she gets to know everyone personally and basically everyone is friends with each other

Sona has been an inspiration to me in pursuing English. She challenges students in the various dynamics of writing and research. She validates all opinions, leaving no one in the dark. She promotes students' intellect and expression of opinion. (She doesn't mind open-mindedness) Possibly my favorite professor/teacher of all time! DRAGON FRIENDSHIP!

I enjoyed this class, but I noticed that if you want her to like you and take you seriously you need to take your work seriously and come to class regularly.

Great class very entertaining. if you take this class go in with an open mind. she loves feedback and will not judge. her grading is a bit harsh but only to help the student out in the long run. if you take this class you have to do ALL your work.

Sona is the BEST literature teacher at Moorpark College! Even if, like me, you didn't quite like her style at the 1A level you will LOVE her lit classes! She definitely maintains a subtle control over class discussion and really leads the class to truly probe the texts analytically. Her choice of texts is superb! Really--the BEST lit class/teacher!

Don't take her if you're not serious becuase she's teaching college, not 13th grade. She expects you to be an adult, but you can be yourself--not a statue like in most classes. We have LOTS of fun in class. I wish I had her earlier. She's irreverent, but intellectual, yet not anal. I wish more professors had that combination.

She's a really fun teacher and I love her class. I had her at 8am and I was never tired out. She makes you work for your grade, but it's not really hard work. There are 4 drafts for your essay, and it scared me, but overall, if you're willing to work, it's an easy A. She's a little out there and she scared me at first, but love the class!

She is a good teacher. She is demanding on the essays but you have plenty of time to write them. She is a potty mouth which I didn't mind. Participate in class and she will be more giving on the grade. I'm not typically a good student and I got an A. Do the work and show up for class- simple.

She expects a lot from you, but if you do the work and do what she asks, you will get a good grade. The essays are graded fairly for the level that you are at, whether it is 1A,1B, or 1C. When more than half the class are students who have already had her and they come back for the next english, it must mean that she is a good teacher. Take her!

Everyone who is hating on dombourian is because they aren't good at English. Sona is the most wonderful lady on the planet. VERY VERY fair grader and discussions are always interesting. Professor Dombourian really helped me harness and develop my skills as a writer. Your wellbeing in her classroom his her main concern and she is a fantastic teacher. Those who try hard in her class are guaranteed to succeed. She is funny, sarcastic and witty. Absolutely loved her.

I miss this class so much already since last semester! There is no other class at Moorpark like this. I was already convinced that I was a great writer, but she made me much better than I even thought possible. She is hilarious and will teach you a lot. If you had a bad 1A instructor, you might not be prepared to work as hard as you'll have to.

Stick it out! She is helpful, caring and will respect you, but expects the same. She will try to shock the first few days, but that is to get the people who can't hang, out. Send her your work! Amazing teacher. She is very clear, has a great personality and really knows her stuff! I highly recommend her. I was horrible when it came to writing papers but she changed everything!

She's HILARIOUS, intelligent, and nice... It's best you're there everyday, and you MUST be willing to do the work. Her stuff will improve your writing by a long shot but this class requires a lot of time, prep, and effort. But if you really want to learn something, take her. You won't regret it. :)

really enjoy her classes! never boring. just have to keep up with the essays and not get behind. class is mainly based on participation and essays, so if you're quiet and don't like talking in class too much than be prepared. no test or in class essays :)

Professor D seems intimidating at first and she does have a potty mouth that she's trying to work on, but as the class progresses you see that she is really fun, funny, and helpful. She is very insightful when helping students with their writing and she is all about pushing you to be the best writer you can be. Four papers and no in-class exams.

SO WHAT if she uses profanity, we are in COLLEGE, which in fact means that we are adults and will be treated like peers. Honestly, she was my favorite professor at MP and I thoroughly enjoyed all of her classes. I strongly suggest taking her if you want to challenge your mind and skills. Love her!

Dombourian is great! i was a little frightened after previously reading the reviews people gave her because of the difficulty level but I do not regret taking her class! She is hilarious and her work is hard but she spaces it out and really keeps you on track. I have come out a better writer and I am grateful. you will not regret taking her!

Dombourian is an excellent professor, she might be tough at times but only to help her students and push them into actually putting an effort into it. She does make practically all of her students speak up. She does 3 group projects in total, one being presentation. For those that are afraid of public speaking, I would still recommend this.

By far my most favorite class I have taken in college so far. Prof. Dombourian often makes you rethink everything you have ever thought. Easy to reach over email. Often asks students for feedback and about daily life. She is very visual and will be clear on when assignments are due and what her expectations are. DO YOUR F'ING WORK.

I was in four years of advanced english courses in high school and no teacher ever taught me how to write a paper better than Professor Dombourian. She expects a lot, but if you work for the A, you're most likely to get it. She doesn't tolerate laziness or rudeness. She also defends her students which is awesome. Fun teacher! Take her class!

I went into this class knowing that she has mixed ratings on here, so I really didn't have any clear expectation of her. Plain and simple she is a hard grader, but she is a cool teacher. The first day she is going to be intimidating, get ready! She will lay out what she expects from you from day one. Don't be late! You will end up bringing treats to class! AND SHOW UP! Professor Dombourian is amazing. I took her for English M01A in the fall of 2015. It was my first semester at Moorpark and as lost as I was with everything, she was the only professor who cared and helped me clear everything out. She is on the students side, and is all about fairness. She is not easy, but she is not hard. Just read, listen and try.

She's interesting, and encourages students to develop IQ as well as EQ. She brings up challenging topics and is not afraid to confront people sho don't make the effort in her class. She expects respect and will fully return it.

Definitely one of the more difficult english teachers you can take, but I learned a lot more from her than I would have learned from any other english teacher. If you want to learn how to write better essays and are willing to put in the work, take her. She genuinely cares about her students and will help you if you need it.

She terrifies students on the first day - it's really just to weed out the kids who were gonna drop throughout the semester. She's a good professor and the workload is reasonable. She gives more than enough time to work on the essays; she does require you to use the Writing Center but it's nice to get another person's feedback.

Reading some of the reviews on here give Dombourian a bad reputation but I LOVED HER! Class is based on 3 total papers and a couple group projects. She is hilarious and I looked forward to going to her class. Offers feedback on essays, and as long as you focus and work hard on progressing, she'll gradually give you better grades. 100% recommend!(:

Professor Dombourian is by far the best English professor you can have. She grades extremely fairly and gives great feedback to help people blossom into successful writers. She is also very funny and gives the best assignments that engage you. If you are willing to make an effort & try. Then she is the one English professor to strive & learn from.

Very good teacher, there should be more like her. Her classes are entertaining and engaging, she wants you to think critically. She respects people's beliefs, but she also expects you to back up your opinions or arguments with facts and well thought out explanation. Be aware, you must write essays.

Amazing professor

Professor Dombourian has some prompts that really make you think critically and I honestly felt like I couldn't do well. However, she tells you what to improve on in the next papers and if you ask, she will take a look at your thesis to help you formulate a paper, but you have to do that on your own, of course. She emphasizes independent thinking.

She is one of my favorite teachers. Ever. Her class is definitely something you have to out effort into but she gives amazing feedback and truly wants you to succeed. Dont be a punk and youll do just fine in her class

Prof Dombourian is extremely smart. She really knows what she is talking about. However, she is the toughest grader I've ever had for English. This class was not easy what so ever. Her feedback is a little confusing and it's never exactly clear what she wants. She makes you go to the writing center once for each paper.

Dombourian is great! I had her for both MO1 and MO1B. She has her own sense of humor that makes each class fun. Just get ready to read the books assigned because you cannot do any of the essays without. Just beware of the research paper, make sure you have the correct amount of pages!

I have a lot of respect for Sona. She is direct, demanding, and fair. She expects a lot from you but is up front about it and will help you in any way possible. If you put every ounce of effort into that class you will get an A, but if you slack off she will show no remorse.

Challenges you to become a better writer, I definitely had to work harder in this class than any other English class I've ever taken. I would not take if you want an "easy A".

You really have to invest yourself in order to get a good grade. She gives good feed back on the papers, so as long as you follow the corrections on the prior papers, you should be fine. If you aren't the best writer and are worried about your grade, just make sure you participate and talk a lot with projects and you will get a good grade.

Pretty standard expectations for essays and assignments. Really encourages students to get outside help or meet with her if they're struggling. Sometimes requirements are a little vague but she isn't a very tough grader. You'll get out of this class whatever you put into it - read the books and do the homework and you'll be fine!

This woman is THE BOSS. Without her, I would have dropped out of my first quarter at UCLA since other professors at community college didn't teach squat. And unlike my professors now, she actually teaches and holds students responsible only for material she covered. The class is quite a bit of work, but she got me to think and work independently.

I've taken 2 classes taught by Sona, (both being english classes)and I have never learned so much from 2 classes in my life. She is tough, but she will teach you HOW TO WRITE! She's hilarious, caring and in her M01B class all of the essays are in class. She gives you plenty of time to prepare.

Finally! A professor who TEACHES but doesn't politicize--AND genuinely wants to know what students think. Unlike lots of faculty in other departments, she encourages contention AND cares about students. And she calls out bad behavior--which I appreciate since too many act like they can't hear students who openly disrespect others in the class.

Do not take her class if you are easily offended. She's an amazing professor that is very straightforward with her points and encourages students to make clear arguments, etc. You'll have to work for your grade, but in the long run it's totally worth it because she actually prepares you for when you transfer out of cc & she cares about her students

Believe it or not, I took this professor 4 times throughout my time at Moorpark. I have taken a lot of professors but she is the one that taught me the most. She made me an extremely better writer, made me want to work harder and taught me so many great life lessons. She is gonna make you work, but is an incredible professor. I will miss her.

A fantastic professor. She's extremely smart and fair, and a very inspirational woman. She wants to push you to do your best. She's very funny and relaxed, but if you tend to be sensitive then know that she does have a wild side and she'll call you on your nonsense very quickly. I've loved ALL of my classes with her, and have genuinely learnt a lot

My favorite at Moorpark so far! she is so understanding and funny. Very laid back class mostly lectures with discussions about the art. A total of 3 essays (which are the in-class exams) but they are very easy! and she is a fair grader and tells you what you need. Also, 2 presentations but they were incredibly easy and fun. She is amazing!!

She's an incredibly caring + engaging professor. I emailed her before enrolling + she took the time to send me a thoughtful, inspiring message back. I was really grateful for it. Her live zoom lectures are thought-provoking and foster interesting discussions. She does a great job of coming up with compelling themes for her V01B courses too!

This class is for the precrastinator, rather than the procrastinator. Work hard and you will do well. Professor Dombourian will work you VERY hard but with that being said, she is the best teacher I've ever had. She listens to her students, gives good feedback from essays and genuinely cares for her students. Would definitely take again.

I feel the reason many students don't like this prof. is because they don't ask for clarity from her. I've stayed after class to ask her questions and she is more than happy to help me gain a better understanding of the material. She does care about her students, although she is a little out there with the jokes I do agree with.

She is a very tough grader and demands a lot from her students. She isn't very clear with her instructions, we had to ask a lot of questions to clarify things with her. However she is very understanding and funny. She is light-hearted and doesn't take things too seriously. There are no tests but participation really matters in this class.

I know this is under ENGL but I had her for HUM M07. She was by far the best professor I have had here at MC. Her feedback on assignments was really helpful and the fact that she was not afraid to use language made the lectures really fun. Grading is fair and all the assignments are relevant. She was fun, dedicated, and really cool.

This professor is the only reason I stayed in school during Covid. She was the single person who listened and guided me with my assignments and issues BEYOND the classroom. She also encourages students to say what they *really* think, not what is popular or "safe." And yeah: She kicked two students out for exposing themselves. It's college already.

The Prof is great (had her for Old Testament). She is really helpful and always encourages students to analyze texts from an academic lens, but is open to all interpretations a student may have. Participation is really important, and we always had engaging and fun conversations as a class. Read and participate, and youll have a wonderful time!!

This course challenged our ways of thinking and urged us as a class to dig deeper into our understanding of The Old Testament by approaching it as literature rather than religious text. Unfortunately, many of my peers failed approaching the Bible this way. Dombourian is one of the best professors I have ever had.

Normally I can evaluate in the first class how much effort it will take to get an A and put in the commensurate work. This class stretched me intellectually in multiple dimensions and I am a better student, writer, and all-around human for participating in this class. I can't recommend it or this professor enough!

Professor Dombourian's Old Testament had interesting class discussions and essays. I enjoyed reading the Old Testament through a literary lens that allowed the class to explore sociology, history, and other interdisciplinary subjects. By reading the Old Testament from an academic perspective, I learned a lot and enjoyed the class.

Shes super cool, funny and friendly. She is not strict or scary which I know many students appreciate. Her class was not difficult if you are prepared to put in the required work, plus she grades very lenient. Shes dedicated and helpful wherever you need her to be when you ask her. Tip: participate in class discussions as much as possible!

Professor D is arguably one of the most progressive and respectable professors at moorpark. Her classes are super fun and informative, following a slightly non-traditional format. ATTENDANCE MATTERS! You will not pass if you dont show up.

She is very fair. She tells you exactly how she grades papers. When I first began class, I was a pretty "mediocre" writer, but she helped me and I went from getting Cs on papers to getting As and high Bs. Remember with this professor to always come to class on time (get there early), do the hw, and be mature, and she will always help you.

A class with her is always a fun option for in-person because she's funny and engages the class. She can be tough on grading but is fair and gives you what you earn. Her sense of direction can be a little unclear at times but she ALWAYS reaches out to clarify if needed. She's kind and supportive, and super accommodating when you need her to be.

This professor turned me into an amazing writer! I went from Cs on essays to As! For this course, do all of the hw, get to class on time (arrive early), be respectful and mature to your classmates and the professor, and she will always want to help you! Also shares exactly how she grades essays.

Prof D is funny but can be hard. She wants you to participate in class discussions which will help a TON. Her grading is honest and she gives rewrite opportunities if need be. She also requires many rough drafts of papers with the last to be proof read by the writing center. And you won't know what your grade is till the end of the sem.

Prof Dombourian was the best English teacher I've had so far. She was funny and her grading and comments on papers were very helpful and encouraging.

She makes class very engaging, especially with the seminars and the lectures. However, she does tend to single students out for the sake of making a joke or to make a point during one of her tangents. The essays are like tests, you take them in class, and there are only about 3-4. Overall, she's a tough professor, but she'll clarify info if needed.

Very nice and wants you to succeed. Her class is no walk in the park though.

This class was not easy, but it stretched me intellectually and it was one of my favorite classes I have ever taken. Prof Dombourian is more than willing to be of help when needed and makes class extremely fun. Just make sure to show up to every class and participate, and really put your best effort forward. Please take her if you can!

She always makes it very clear how the essays and major projects are graded. I got an A by following all of the instructions from class and went to the writing center frequently. She'll also happily read ur essay outline before exams for feedback. Stay on top of hw and reading, be kind and mature during class, and she'll always help you. :)

Prof. Dombourian is definitely a little eccentric but is absolutely an amazing prof. Her lectures are always interesting & engaging, & she encourages students to think for themselves & come up with their own unique thoughts and interpretations. Only five exams/assignments over the course of the class, but they require a lot of thought & attention.

Professor Dombourian is great and fun to be in class with. You honestly won't get bored or find yourself uninterested. The in-class essays can be difficult, but if you read the material and follow her instructions you'll be perfectly fine. She shows care for students and is very approachable, and encourages students to think outside of the box.

Overall, Dombourian is a really funny and intelligent teacher. I learned so much on how to write essays and she really want's everyone to succeed. She's a pretty tough grader and there was a lot of work, but I enjoyed every class.

The best professor I've had so far. Dombourian's class is really engaging and made me a stronger writer and student. I would recommend her class to almost anyone; it will definitely requires an open mind and the ability to have mature discussions.

I encourage everyone to take this professor's course! The 01A course was the most engaging time I ever had in an English class; the books and topics were interesting, the feedback on essays was actually helpful, and while there was a complete lack of "busy" work (just major projects and papers, which I personally prefer over lots of homework)

I took her summer class and I can say that she's an amazing and hilarious teacher. This class is unlike any English class you've taken before; I had to seriously wrack my brain for her tests. The work may seem intimidating at first, but if you are truly dedicated to trying hard in her class, your grade will reflect it and she will notice.

Prof. Dombourian was my favorite professor this semester. She cares for her students and makes everything fun. Even though the exams were a bit difficult, she will give amazing feedback to improve your writing and as long as you follow it and go to the writing center you should be good. 10/10 recommend.

I love Dombourian! I have taken two of her classes now, her ENGLM01A Honors over the summer and her HUM07 Survey of the Arts class during this past semester. She assigns a lot but understandably so. You'll grow to see where she's coming from. She is hilarious and so human! She cares about you but is also tough if you're a freshman. Do the work!!

I love Dombourian! She isn't really a tough grader and gives excellent feedback ad actually cares for her students. She is very funny and educated and makes the class fun and everyone is always willing and happy to participate, I would highly recommend taking her class.

Best professor I've ever had at Moorpark, she's so funny but knows her subject incredibly well. I've never been so engaged in lectures until I took Survey of the Arts with her, she's so passionate yet explains everything clearly. There were three essays in total, a group presentation & the final project is writing/performing a play (only complaint)

Take Professor Dombourian's class if you can! By far one of my favorite and best English teachers I have had. Her grading is based on a small number of assignments and three in-class essays but if you do well on the essays you'll be fine. If you take advantage of the feedback and extra help she offers you'll do great, shes awesome

She is an absolutely phenomenal professor. She will challenge you in the best ways if you strive for a quality understanding of literature.

I absolutely loved taking English 1A with Professor Dombourian! Her summer class is no joke but as long as you stay on top of the reading and pace yourself with the assignments you are good to go! She gives really good feedback and has made me a stronger writer. I would definitely take her again

Challenging but rewarding class with Professor Dombourian. Attendance is a must, but the feedback and support make you a stronger writer. unstuck study was a lifesaver for prepping essays.

Very fun professor but get ready to read. Also if you're looking for an A do NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. I definitely did end up writing better by the end of the class; also make sure to pace out your assignments, they're not a cram-in-one-night assignments, they require to be slept on.

Get ready for a really fun yet challenging English class. There are a total of three exams, each worth 30% of your grade, and a seminar worth 10% of your grade in the end. This professor really wants you to learn and grow as a person. It's definitely not an easy class, but fun none the less.

Prof. Dombourian is the best English teacher I have ever had. Her class is tough and there's a lot of reading but she helped me become a noticeably better writer. Super funny and cares about how you do in your writing journey. There is a lot of work to keep up with, but if you put in the effort and stay on top of deadlines/exams, you'll be fine.

Dombourian is so fun! Took her for 3 semesters in a row (all different classes) and many of her students love her. Great sense of humor but not everyone is fond of her teaching style. But for most of us…we love her.

You can tell that she really cares about her students and likes to joke around. My grade was based on 5 assignments throughout the semester (3 essays and 2 group presentations) but they were really easy. She can be a bit confusing sometimes with her directions and how she wants you to do things, but she is open to giving clarification if asked.

I was in her class for 3 semesters, and she's probably the best professor at Moorpark College. She will challenge you in a good way, and she really cares about her students. Take her class, you won't regret it.

Tough professor. You go in here constantly, and get ready to learn you will be fine. She pushes you to the next limit, and personally it was one of my favorite classes at moorpark.

SUPER hard. For a freshman english class, she bases the exams on short-term memory with minimal notes. She asks for a LOT of work outside of class. She provides lots of feedback in order to succeed, but 1/3-1/4 of her class fail every semester. Most students drop as well. So if you're looking for a professor that is CHALLENGING, look no further.

Prof. Dombourian is one of the best professors at Moorpark. She's very engaging with the class and makes her lectures very interesting/easy to follow. The class is lecture heavy so be ready to take notes. She makes you become a better writer and overall wants to see you succeed. Her grading is pretty tough as it's 3 essays for the year.

Be ready to get your work picked apart piece by piece, but its out of love and will ultimately make you a better writer. I took her c1000 course and I'm taking 2 more classes from her next semester. Love her sense of humor and add-ins during class discussions/seminars. Be ready to take on the course load tho, she expects a lot from her students.

def heavy on class participation, but the content was really interesting and intellectually stimulating. grade is based on two essays, a seminar, and a group project, but she's flexible with makeup work if you let her know your concerns,, she wants her students to pass while also giving them a more diverse perspective on the world. + hilarious!

Professor Dombourian is perfection personified, and anyone who dares to claim otherwise is a liar and a thief. Her coursework, discussions, and lectures are wildly engaging, to say the least. Professor Dombourian is caring, hilarious, and incredibly inspirational, as her speech suggests a worldly understanding and an IQ of 2,500. TAKE HER CLASS.
