Basically if you get the opportunity to take Nalkur do it. She is more passionate about her subject matter than any teacher I've ever had before. Homework is basically reading, which some can be interesting. Tests are writing heavy but not tricky. Papers are graded easier than expected. Only down side is she moves fast, so pay close attention.

Good amount of readings, but it's not overwhelming and most of them are usually interesting. Extremely helpful in office hours and genuinely cares about you as a person. 2 midterms, 2 papers, one final. Papers graded by the TAs and graded pretty easily. You HAVE to know the readings for tests and lecture outlines are very helpful. AMAZING professor

Dr. Nalkur is an amazing professor. Class was very clear-cut, 2 papers (1 5 page, 1 7 page), 1 midterm (10 short answer questions) and 1 final (7 short answer, 1 essay). TA's graded everything very easy. For the papers, follow the rubric and guidelines exactly and you'll get an A or A-. For the exams, know the readings and definitions of concepts.

Dr. Nalkur is an inspirational professor who inevitably makes you apply what you learn in the classroom to the outside world. You will get an A only if you go to lecture and take notes. You can get through the course by memorizing her notes (which is a lot), but paying attention in class will make this much easier.

Wouldn't consider her an Easy A, you do have to study a little and you need to write a couple papers. But if you put in the work then you can definitely manage an A. Definitely a wonderful class. Sometimes you'll shake your head in class and wonder, "Why do sociologists have to have a word for that? Why do they use the word 'social context' for 'environment'?" In the beginning, you've hammer the vocabulary in to be able to really succeed during the rest of the semester. Papers aren't graded quickly though...

Amazing professor, amazing lectures, very interesting readings. However, do not take this class if you are a pre-med student, unless you are taking it out of interest. She teaches very little on MCAT related content. It is mostly very eye opening passages I definitely recommend reading

doesnt let you use electronics and teaches material that is super irrelevant and whatever she finds interesting. class is based on 4 assignments so you have to do well on them. the class is "easy" but everything is graded by TAs who don't know how to properly grade and she never grades actual work because shes lazy

literally so awful. assigned 43 page studies that were so boring. i would rather eat dog feces than go to her class because of how boring she was and how awful her grading system was. sure i have an A in the class but for an intro level class there should not be that much work and your grade is based on FOUR assignments

She is passionate about what she is teaching and provides lots of interesting examples and details. The course is an easy A with very few assignments. The lectures are non-tech which makes them boring at times, but as a professor she is great.

Dr. Nalkur is very passionate about her work and has an inspiring background. Lectures were boring since she scrolled through her notes with occasional YouTube videos. The final grade consists of 3 exams and one paper so keep that in mind. Overall, the class was passive and I felt all of my learning was self-guided. Don't expect much.

Took her in the FA23 semester. She assigns a reading or two, expects you to read it, then lectures on the reading and similar topics in class. Three essay exams w prompts given ahead of time and a lengthy paper that required an interview of three friends/peers about their upbringing. She and the TAs grade easily, interactive lectures w/ videos.

Dr.Nalkur is a very nice professor; she clearly loves what she does and cares about her students. However, the lectures can get very long and redundant. I didn't particularly enjoy the class as a result. I also believe the syllabus changed for the FA23 semester. This class is no longer an 'easy A', so beware before taking it.

A fantastic lecturer with really interesting insight into ideas that we haven't necessarily challenged before. Grading criteria is very clear and it is very easy to get an A, as long as you pay attention and show up to class.

Nalkur's FA23 class didn't accurately reflect the previous reviews. There was a miscommunication with the grading policy, resulting in a class-wide low grade, but nothing was done on their end. Class is not a free A anymore, TAs grade pretty tough sometimes, and were occasionally pretty unhelpful. Nalkur herself is very nice, engaging lecturer.

Lectures are very engaging. Exams are also very easy if you prepare, she gives out the questions beforehand for the 1st midterm and final exam. Readings are also interesting. Only complaint is that the first midterm was rescheduled after students already arrived to test.

Professor Nalkur's class material is engaging. She is an outstanding lecture. I enjoy her every lecture even if we are not allow to use electronics. Advice in office hour is very inspirational. But TA does not have clear grading criteria. They substract your points for no reason (others wrote longer than your essay, so they deserve more points???)

Great lecturer, but beware that technology is not allowed to be used in class, and she will publicly call you out if you have your phone or computer out. Made the class harder this semester by not giving test questions in advanced for one of the midterms which stressed everyone out. Everything is graded by TA's and they are easy graders.

Grading is so unclear. All tests/assignments are worth so much. I got a 98 on the first test and haven't done that bad on other things and am like fighting to get an A post final. So much extra reading and work than other soc101 classes. Her paper assignment is another teacher's final - thats ridiculous. Lectures aren't helpful, tests hurt hands.

Lectures are quality and she clearly knows what she's talking about, but no computers allowed in class. Readings can be 40 pages long of scientific material for no reason and this can be frustrating. However many of the readings are cool and the class is pretty interesting overall. Tests aren't too bad and some questions are often given in advance.

Dr Nalkur is a fantastic speaker and lecturer. She's engaging and passionate about sociology. No tech in class and id advise to participate in class. Tests are based all on long homework readings and grading is by TAs and not very harsh, but not clear guidelines. A decent amount of terms to remember. Overall challenging for a 101 but inspiring
