Ms. Verma is nice and, unlike many teachers at Sierra, has EXPERIENCE in the Psych. field (therapy). She shows videos with her lectures, which keeps it interesting. She has an accent, but after a few days you get used to it. GO TO class, pay attention & you'll pass. She offers lots of extra credit.
This teacher is very nice. She does make you take alot of notes and all she does in class is lscture, but it helps you remember what youre going to be tested on. Gives THREE hw assignments ALL semester and a ton of extra credit. Also lets you have hefty notes for tests. Shes great! Highly recommend!
She's such a nice teacher, and very easy. You do have to take a lot of notes, but it's not a big deal. On her tests she lets you have like 2 full pages of notes! Go to her class everyday, cuz she gives soo much extra credit, like every wk. And the extra credit is sooo easy. Also only 3 hw's n the se
awesome class awesome teacher. she basically puts all of the notes you need in her slide shows which you can download. she offers lots of extracredit and only 3HW assignments. absolutely awesome teacher and i personally love her accent.
Very good teacher very helpful seems driven for her students to succeed
Good teacher, mostly powerpoint lectures. Only three homework assignments, plenty of extra credit and awesome notes allowed on tests! Very nice and helpful, learned a lot from this class.
LOVED this class. She is very helpful and puts all powerpoints on the net. Not much homework, just do it and do well on the tests. She gives good extra credit opportunities. Does her best to help everyone learn. Facinating subject. Just loved it. Definitly recommended :).
Very Informative and Fun teacher! Lots of energy and not boring like many others!

She is an awesome teacher who really wants you to learn and get involved with the class. She always asks the class how they feel about things and always supprorts them, but usually if they are wrong will put them on the right track. Her teaching is anyhting but passive and involves you in the subject. Please take her class you will learn and understand a great deal!
So, thisw class was so terrible I just stopped going. Her lectures never seemed to stay on track and she went through some stuff to quickly, although she does put her notes online. Some of the stuff she said was really inacurate, at least based on the knowledge I gained from taking this in High School and from my dad, who's a psychiatrist (sp?). She's nice, but not that great of a teacher.
Professor Verma is one of my favorite professors at sierra. She's awesome, she very smart and updated. It was my first time having powerpoint lectures and it turned out to be such a breeze. Everything in the notes is on the test and she even lets you have notes during the test. Her class is one of the best classes i've taken at sierra!!! :)
This can be a very easy class for some people. You get 2 pages of notes (front and back) for the exam but you will find you dont actually need them on the exam if you took the time to write them. The only thing i did not like is the PPT presentation notes. Also, be ready for 6-7 weeks of ANATOMY. Attendance is important. Expect CW & HW.
So, this class is a HUGE investment of ur time (if u want an 'A') but, tatally worth it 'cause its basically intro to neuro-sci. She can B a bit hard 2 understand @ times but, if u think ur bright, you'll have no prob and, she is heinously sweet. The class is THE SCIENCE CREDIT TO TAKE! PS, spend the $30 on the study guide-best way to an 'A.'
A great teacher - I have taken her classes twice and she is genuinely interested in her subject & her students. Easy on tests, 4 pages of notes this class but sometimes the material is a little complex. Only a total of 4 homework assignments for the semester!
Fantastic! P Verma is very up-to-date on all of the research going on for biopsych. She is very helpful and nice. The first have of the semester has a lot of neuro anatomy and can be difficult; however, it is very interesting. She does have an accent, but you will get used to it quickly.
Pretty boring but really easy class. The only time I used the text was to fill out the study guide for the tests which u can use a page of notes. She posts her class notes on the web (blackboard). What else can I say, if u want an easy A take her.
She's not the easiest teacher to take, she is really nice & friendly, but she's not a skip in the park. Her accent also isn't as bad as some would like you to think. I did enjoy the class though b/c it was a topic I was interested in & you actually have to try for it.
Professor Verma was a very nice person, and is very knowledgeable of her subject. The class is definately more science than psychology, and you shouldn't go into it thinking it's going to be easy. My average study time for each test was about 8 hours or more, and I still didn't manage A's on all of them. Expect to work hard to get an A.
Professor Verma is absolutely amazing. She is a wonderful person, always helpful, and a great teacher. She is super fun, and lectures aren't boring at all. She is interested in psychology and wants others to understand the subject as well! Verma wants people to really learn in her class. I highly recommend taking classes with her. :D
Can't speak for psych 1 or 30, but her psych 40 class is pretty awful. She's a really really nice lady and really wants you to do well, but her class is terribly boring. Her accent is pretty awful as well. do the HW and FOLLOW THE STUDY GUIDE EXACTLY WHEN DOING YOUR PAGE OF NOTES and you'll get an A like i did. AVOID THE LAB CLASS AT ALL COSTS.
The secret to doing well is use the study guid for tests. you can't get out of reading, its impossible. You dont even have to show up for class, just read the chapters. I was a little dissapointed in the class because it was pretty much word for word from the text book. Overral I wouldnt recoment this class it was really boaring.
Very interesting
her class appears very easy at beginning of semester but her tests are actually very difficult. Even with the full page of notes front and back that she lets us use, i was never able to get more than a "B" on her tests. she was a fun teacher though
I thought this class was really interesting. It wasn't easy, by any means, but she's a good teacher. Her accent is intimidating at first but clears up. Bring powerpoints to class before lecture and copy study guide verbatim on the note sheets. I got between 84s and 99s on all of the tests- it's not hard if you apply yourself.
She covers material 2 fast & is hard to understand. When she asks for questions, she gives the class a second to answer and then she says “no? O.K., Good!” Often her PowerPoints are messed up or the print is too small to read, this makes it hard to take notes and follow her fast lecture. The subject is interesting, but her teaching style is torture!
I had her for my Intro to Psych, my Human Sexuality and Biopsych classes. All three were awesome. She does go a bit fast in her lectures, however alot of the time she would hand out copies of her powerpoints to first-come first-serve. Or write fast and good notes and you'll be fine on the tests. She's so friendly I took her for three classes! :)
Pretty interesting...all of her powerpoints come STRAIGHT from the textbook. So as long as you take good notes and read the chapters, you'll do fine. Quizzes are take home and you are allowed a sheet of handwritten notes for the exam..but you still have to STUDY!
Pretty interesting...all of her powerpoints come STRAIGHT from the textbook. So as long as you take good notes and read the chapters, you'll do fine. Quizzes are take home and you are allowed a sheet of handwritten notes for the exam..but you still have to STUDY!
NOT RECOMMENDED! Very unorganized! Does not post grades timely on Blackboard and her powerpoints have so many grammatical errors that they are hard to follow.
RUN. RUN NOW!
This was a human sexuality class. I could tell Verma really enjoyed teaching it and is passionate about the subject. I learned alot in this class and am glad I took it from her because she made it less of an embarrassing subject to talk about.
HORRIBLE, cant understand what she says. What she calls quizzes are 40-50 questions. Her tests are really hard. Some of the questions dont even go with what you were learning.
Very interesting and fun class. You have to study but if you do you will do well. Allows 2 pages of notes on every test.
Okay, so she isn't hard to understand when she talks, but she does mispronounce things and it kind of annoyed me, but whatever. She's pretty unorganized but is relatively smart. She kind of sums up Sierra College to me...kinda average-ish. I recommend you do extra credit because I always seemed to miss the important in-class activities.
Quizzes are take home, but a good portion of questions don't relate to class discussion. Mid-term and Final are ridiculously difficult. Hard to understand what she's saying at times. Don't EVER miss class! If your not a whiz in the field, take someone else.
DONT TAKE FROM HER. you cant understand what she's saying, and class discussions go on and on and on, and are extremely boring, She's not helpful and she's unorganized. She's gives study guides but doesn't count them for points, and they never matched the test material. She is also awkward because all her examples and lectures talk about sex
Very easy class.very interesting material.Great teacher
Ver good classes!hot and happening.I would recommend it to all
very dedicated teacher, wonderful.got so much to learn in her classes.
took bio psych from her and it was miserable.you cannot understand a thing she says. she is a smart women but their is no way in hell she should be teaching. Her accent is to bad that its rediculous.one time she said bear and pow,and it took 2 weeks to figure out she meant where and how.i spent more time figuring out wat she was saying then learning
Use the study guides to write your cheatsheet she lets you use, but make sure you can fit it all. Her accent is the easiest one to understand. Make sure you take notes in class because she emphasizes most important topics/says when things are on the tests. Study guides are important for B's.
Whoever says she is impossible to understand just isn't paying attention. She says a very limited number of words differently, everything else is perfectly normal. She expects students to really study for the exam, but gives a detailed study guide and you are allowed a page of notes. She is AWESOME. Take her class if you actually want to learn.
she is the best teacher i have ever had. she plans powerpoints and allows one full page of notes, and hands out a study guide which is basically identical to the test and all the answers for the study guide and test pretty much come from the powerpoints, but you do have to take notes, and forget about ever missing a class because itllscrewyou over
Oh no! The beginning of BIOPSY was very boring. The first 6 weeks of it was about the structure of neurons which is pretty familiar if you've taken psy1. Many of the fun activities she told us we would be doing in her class never came to pass. The Biodots assignment sounded fun and was what held my interest for most of the semester. never did it
These comments about her accent are ridiculous. She's an extremely fluent bilingual with only a subtle accent. If you study properly, you'll get an A. I got over 100% in the class with ease. Somehow her class attracts lots of 'gangsta' kids. Who all tend to fail, and who are the ones that complain. It's biological psychology, not Rap 101, kid
She is awesome she lets you have a full page of notes (front and back) for her tests. my lowest test score was an 83%. just print out the notes off blackboard before class and you'll be set
I am only 17 years old still in high school and I have a B in this class. All you have to do is watch the class and take notes. The distance learning class is better because you get more time to do the hw, quizzes and test. I would recommend this class. I have only had maybe a few problems understanding a term that she uses. Good teacher overall.
I enjoyed my time in her class. Although the lectures could be a bit confusing at times, she would always make sure that we understood. She did give hw assignments, and some were very interesting. I really think this class is what you make of it and what you put into it.
Great teacher! Explains everything well and gives plenty of interesting extra credit to do. anyone that said her accent is hard to understand have no idea what their talking about, she speaks clearly very understandable.
I Really enjoyed this class and teacher. I did not think I was going to enjoy it because I was just taking it for my Life Science credits. Ms Verma makes it interesting and i loved the dreams section!
Her class is tedious, and she grades rough on pointless assignments. Definitely has her favorites.
She's strict, but encourages discussion. You can't miss class as there are random quizzes and she takes attendance. Her accent is heavy at times, but you can understand her fairly well. The tests are easy, all lecture notes and study guides are online. Books help with the study guides, but otherwise aren't necessary. Overall, easy class.
Great class
Took class online. To get an A - you need to 1)read the chapter modules assigned (type notes) you will need them for the tests! 2) complete all the online assignments and make sure to post to the discussion groups. Ms. Verma is a great teacher and is always available to answer questions.
She's very helpful and quite engaging, knows how to start a good discussion. The class may seem somewhat difficult, but she offers extra-credit assignments and posts detailed study-guides, so you'd know what's going to be on the test. Just make sure that you study properly, there are few tricky questions on the tests.
I took the online course. Class was pretty simple. She posts a list of homework and due dates every week. All you do: Read, watch videos, do DB post, and take a reading quiz. She always posts Study Guides that tell you exactly whats on the exam. Drops lowest exam and quiz grade. A lot of work but interesting stuff! Would recommend.
I dreaded taking this class but Soni Verma changed all of that! She provides all of her lecture slides to you at the beginning of the semester making note taking a breeze. Her lectures, videos, and activities are fun and interesting. She provides comprehensive study guides for each the exams. Responds to all my emails quickly. Best teacher ever!
It is not an easy class but she was doing her best to help students. you have to read a lot. She is very helpful when you need her. I would recommend her.
She is an average teacher. She is not very kind but not too mean. She teaches too fast and gives you a lot of assignment. Also sometimes it's hard to uderstand her lecture because of her accent. Not very easy class not too hard.
This class is not very easy! But not too hard. She has a thick accent but her lectures are very clear. She is always open to helping you out whenever you need it. I had several appoitments with her and she knows her material! veryyyy nice teacher but be prepared for a good amount of work! I would STRONLY recommend her. I loved her & the class.
I like Soni! Honestly, this class is not hard at all. She gives you a cheat sheet for every exam, and a study guide. If you write all the Q's on the cheat sheet with the correct answers, your pretty much guaranteed a B or an A. Homework is not hard, but there are weekly quizzes online. Those aren't hard either if you have the book.
She gives you plenty of opportunities to succeed.
Took Biological Psychology online. Some of the material can be hard to grasp, but she gives you study guides that if you complete them, guarantee you 100% on all exams. She can give a lot of material per week and a lot of different random assignments. Kind of confusing, but an A is not hard to get. Barely put in any effort and got a B.
She is a very engaging and helpful instructor that is very up to date and endlessly helpful if you make a serious effort to pursue it. The class is made easier than average with concepts that are harder than average, and she does a lot to help you remember things easily, but she is a tiny bit disorganized and sometimes words her questions poorly.
I took professor verma for biopsych and I LOVED IT. the lectures for every class were absolutely fascinating. As long as you do the study guide and cheat sheet you will get an A on the test. They are really easy. She talks pretty fast, but take as many free notes as you can.
You could use 1 page front and back of notes on all tests. At-home quizzes. Not necessary to read book. She's very through and interesting and makes biological psychology easy and fun. I highly recommend her. She quickly responds to emails. Don't be scared of this class because it has science. She will get you though it no problem =]
Super easy class if you do the reading. She gives every opportunity for you to do very well and get an A. Extra credit galore.
Awesome teacher. I would take any class that she teaches. Very responsive and willing to explain further when needed. Material was hard.
The best I have seen. Take her, she was great. A little hard to understand at times, talks fast, but really helpful. Study guides are key to an A. Lets you have notes for test!
Took her for Human Sexuality and it was so much fun! She is extremely nice and approachable but it is not exactly the easy A you think it will be even if you're the average sex craving college student. You sure learn a lot though. Do the panel at the end of the year and speak up a lot in class and your semester will be tons of fun
Took tv course. She was a great professor!!!! Take her if you can. Make sure to take notes.
She is a fun teacher and sometimes really funny. She doesn't assign pointless homework and makes it worth your while to go to class everyday. Definitely take her class.
one of the nicest teachers at Sierra. class is fun! textbook not really needed. TAKE HER :)
Excellent teacher! She is funny and wants all of her students to succeed by giving us the tools necessary to pass her class such as study guides and lots of extra credit assignments (my favorite)!
She's the best! I took her Human Sexuality class & it was seriously so fun. She can go a little fast through notes, but she'll slow down a bit if you just ask. She is super helpful and gives you everything you need to pass the class with an A. You don't have to show up to every class, but I suggest you do otherwise you might miss something fun! :)
This class was also televised so it wasn't exactly mandatory to show up as long as you watched it later, but you did miss out on class points. Her class isn't exactly hard but you have to make sure you understand the material for the tests. Tests are allowed one full page of cheat sheets. Use them well!!
I enjoyed her Human Sexuality class. It was educational, she made class interesting with speakers, videos, and activities. You need the book that she requires in class to do the study guides she gives out for the tests. The study guides in my opinion were challenging. In the end she drops the lowest grade plus there is extra credit. TAKE HER CLASS
At first I was skeptical because she talks with an accent, which for me is very difficult to understand as I am myself a migrant. Yet soon I realized how laid back, interesting, and funny she is. Reasonable amount of work, lectures are interesting and interactive. Tests are somewhat tough, but one page of notes saves you SO much.
This class is basically all biology, not so much psychology. Tests require a lot of studying and time. I wouldn't recommend this class if it is not for your major. Teacher is nice but doesn't offer much help.
I really have enjoyed this class, expect to read, a lot. The tests are hard, she gives a study guide, though the questions weren't very clear, they were more of statements, rather then questions. She gives a decent amount of extra credit, so take advantage of that and there's no limit on how many you do.
She is a very intelligent, informative professor. She is very helpful and interested in making the content as easy as she can. Show up, take good notes and print out the powerpoint slides ahead of time and you will have no problem passing. Lots of extra credit opportunities and the test study guides make the tests less stressful.
Agree with her even when she's wrong if you want to pass.
Took the TV class, Class is not easy. You actually have to watch all the lectures and read the text book in order to make your cheat sheet for the study guide. But if you write down everything on the cheat sheet you should do fine in the class.
This class is so fun. Soni keeps the lectures interesting and lets us share personal experiences and have discussions. There are a couple presentations that make this class really fun. The BDSM presentation at the end of the semester is by far the best. Read the book, take good notes, and study. Take all extra credit opportunities!!!
Excellent Professor. She is very intellectual and has a great personality. She is very thorough and informative during her lectures. If you attend class and study you should do great in her class. She is a great a Professor but obviously teaches hard subjects so you need to read and attend class if you want that A or B.
perfect! Take this class (psy130). The lectures are interesting. The exams are easy if you study. She will give a study guide. quizzes are online and untimed.
Meh... I took the class reading from other reviews and she us the best option in a worst case situation. Classes are long and boring. More of a biology course than actual psychology. Tends to turn off the lights during lectures. Tests are hard but she has an optional final which is nice. Online quizzes are easy her in class quizzes are much harder.
Love this professor! during lecture she will mention if things are on the exam, she allows 1 index card of notes for the exam, she drops the lowest quiz grade and she has an option to take another exam at the end to replace a bad exam grade. She is always smiling! And she remembers her student's names. I would recommend her for psy130.
ABSOLUTLEY AMAZING!!!! Loved her class and loved her! She made the lectures fun and interesting and there was a lot of hands on stuff that we got to do! Everything was phenomenal I would definitely take again!!
Great teacher, very straight forward and well planned schedule. Reply's quickly to emails, communicates, and will help you if you don't understand something. Highly recommend this teacher.
I am a psych major and really enjoyed the material from this class. She doesn't ask for much being it online, discussion post and reply post every week, a weekly quiz (no tests) that it. Discussions are really important to spend time on and if you read you'll get A's on the quizzes! She provides good video clips etc to help understand the material.
Soni is an amazing teacher and she has inspired me! I thought the class wasn't that hard, there are 3 tests and an optional final. She lets you hand-write one side of a piece of paper for the test--use it! I recommend taking notes from the textbook and printing out the slides before class. Would take again.
Amazing professor! Do the readings, homework, study guides and you'll do fine in the class. There is also extra credit provided, which are easy points. As long as readings are kept up, the class is easy. Verma is very helpful to anyone who goes to her office hours
I liked going to this class but I hated the way she grades. She would give grades like 8/10 but not give feedback as to where I missed the points. I had friends in this class and she did it to them too. The class is really fun but she doesn't like giving out A's.
It is a challenging class but you can get an A or B if you prepare your notes well enough. Soni Verma is a great professor and she wants her students to succeed. I highly recommend her.
Such an eye opening class! Taught human sexuality from a pleasure perspective instead of the traditional procreation perspective. Really informative and cares for her students.
This class is very easy and interesting. Prof Verma structures her class towards pro-sex and we learned about sexuality, STI's and a bit more. She has amazing guest speakers that you won't want to miss! There's a few tests, some online and in-class quizzes and one small project. My only complaint is that I wish she was a bit more organized.
Took as a Summer school class. The work load is weekly textbook reading and weekly quiz along with discussion board - two responses. No papers. A play dough brain project that was easy and fun. Do the work and you'll do great. I really enjoyed the subject.
I enjoyed this class, and would recommend anyone planning to take it to do it online. The material is interesting and her discussions encourage interaction with class mates. However, what bothered me is that she typically would not give any feedback on assignments, and also seemed lazy in proofreading her assignments before releasing them.
Great class. Professor Verma lets you use an index card of notes for tests. Amazing lectures.
Amazing professor, makes the subject easy to follow along and makes students feel comfortable discussing human sexuality.
Prof. Verma makes you want to come to class! She is the perfect blend of kind, humorous, intelligent, honest, & respectful. She does a great job of keeping the classroom a safe space. Also, she is easily accessible outside class during office hours & responds quickly to emails.
Soni was my human sexuality professor and she did an amazing job at keeping the environment professional and open. No question was left unanswered and I loved every day it was obviously stuff we all pretty much know but in a more comprehensive aspect. 11/10 recommend
I had Professor Verma for Human Sexuality. She's a great teacher and I felt like I learned a lot in her class.
Sonis lectures are often rushed and disorganized. Shes a really smart lady, but she kind of expects you to understand things instantly, if that makes sense. I had to put in serious work to be able to pass.
I am a psych major and this human sexuality class was way different than any other psych class i have taken she gives great detailed lectures makes everything interesting and provides physical examples the only thing that sucked is her tests are worded extremely specific so its hard to know what to study exactly and she wont round if ur at a 89.5%
I did not enjoy her class. I think she is better in person perhaps. Her lectures are hard to follow, broken, and unenthusiastic. Supplements provided don't add to textbook and lecture learning, but instead repeat information and could be omitted. Tests are very difficult, 1 minute per question, unclear at times. Her feedback is short and unhelpful.
Felt like I was teaching myself the entire time. I understand her english is broken, but it can really make the information communicated difficult to understand. Perhaps to combat this she could be more consistent in her lecture recordings/transcripts. Tests are very frustrating (final 55min for 50Q. Discussions are unnecessarily lengthy
Her teaching style is actually very good and straight to the point. Shes good at lectures and isnt strict with writing formats or any of that. She is a really great teacher.
Literally no homework! Great lectures!!
Awesome class awesome teacher great study guide
Nice teacher, I was in her online class. It was pretty good, just very heavy, and a lot of specific criteria for discussion boards that were different each week.
I took the online version of her class over summer. Its a lot of work over 8 weeks. She has a really annoying rule that when you post on discussion boards, you have to do it on 2 different days. Shes kind of rude when you send her messages asking questions. She also refused to round up my 79.55% because it wasnt 79.7 which is the dumbest thing
Solid choice and gives very good lectures. Encourages to participate in class discussions. Easy tests. Lets you use note cards on tests
She's got a solid personality, a good sense of humor, and she's very open about LGBT and queer perspectives when she talks about human sexuality, which I really appreciated as a queer student. She's fun, she knows what she's talking about, I always enjoyed class with her.
Professor Verma was an amazing teacher! I worked hard for my "A" , but she made the class really interesting with videos and a lot of useful information. Discussion boards were every week along with quiz. There were a few homework projects, but they were fun to do. I would recommend taking this professor again!
I got a C because it was my fault. I slacked off studying in this class. It's honestly an easy A class. I regret not being able to actually learn from this class and absorb information that i need now. Biopsychology is like in the realm of neuroscience. This class has all the information to help you. It's a class that's worth your money and time.
Take this class if you actually want to learn. Prepare to read the book and lectures at least twice +study. She makes sure that you actually know the information so she puts a few short answer questions in each test that make you critically think. This is a chance to start thinking like a real neuroscientist. I was able to balance w 2 other classes
Never in my life have I had a more discouraging professor. This is the only class I have struggled in. Everything I do in this class is not good enough and yet I am spending a substantial amount of time on this courses work. This has discouraged me so much from online school.
An excellent professor. A student really grasps some real knowledge and life skills. I strongly recommend students to take Professor Verma for PSYCH140. It has been a great experience . Interactive during and makes discussions easier and interesting.
Amazing professor!
I loved Soni, she is such a kind soul! She is very involved in your success, and she is someone you can go to with any issues inside or outside of the course- she tries to involve all her students in PSYC campus activities, and has great lectures. Would love to take another course with her.
The assignments are very easy and cover the curriculum really well. Her lectures are good, but they are almost exactly the same as the textbook readings. Sometimes the wording is the exact same. Otherwise, I learned a lot from this class and the professor is very caring.
