LOVE this class. Banks keeps it all current and fair. Says she will never reveal her political stance (right-wing, all the way) she doesn't choose sides. Says it how it is. Fun, loved going to lecture. Three exams and a final, all open book/open note. If you study, easy A. Learned so much!

she tells you the questions but has unreasonable expectations expect trick/hard questions but open book and computer. the writing assignment that are not clear where expectations are very very high. i was the only student who wrote my test essay questions out and submitted them at the test she flunked it for being incomplete. i droped for new prof.

Banks is extremely knowledgeable passionate. Attendance is crucial if you want to do well in the class. Show up everyday and take notes. She literally outlines the test for you by only asking what she covers in her lectures. No HW but you should spend time studying notes. Before tests, study notes and skim through the textbook. Ask questions!

Banks is the best teacher i ever had at MPC. Her teaching style is unique because she presents so many real-life examples in each of her lectures so students can relate and understand material. She is very funny and friendly. Note-taking is strongly encouraged because she allows students to use them on exams. ON essays, write as much as possible!!

Honestly, she ONLY gives out extra credit if you are her favorite(s) student. There are many times I would speak or raise my hand and she shoots me down. There were plenty of students who say things with out raising their hands and she lessons to them.

Really great teacher sometimes she can be a little scary but she's extremely fair and as long as you participate you're on your way to a good grade. Just paying attention isn't going to get you an A though you have to take notes and really study for the tests (there are four each two parts with part 1 being mc ?'s and part 2 being Essay ?'s)

Fantastic instructor. She will teach you things about America that you can't find anywhere. She'll always tell the truth so tough luck if you cant deal with it. Just go to class listen to lectures, which isn't difficult, and get in contact with her if there's any issues in your life preventing you from giving your all; shell understand.

One of the best professors I have had in while. She is really clear on what she wants you to know and the tests are reasonable. Make for sure you take good notes and actually buy the book it helped for me. On the down side some of the wording in the multiple choice are confusing.

AMAZING teacher! She does an amazing job of explaining both sides of every story and is never boring. There are no powerpoints in her class, she speaks to you and encourages debate and skepticism (shown in her trick questions to the students in discussion). She literally will tell you questions that will be on the test, then lets you do it take home anyways. A very lively, enthusiastic, and compelling instructor. Very fun class, definitely worth taking, and an easy A if you write down everything she puts on the board, and break everything down clearly in your essays

excellent course! I chose polsci as elective best choice I made. I had not heard of Banks before (should have read comments here) so I did not know if she was good or not. Very fun class. however, tests were tricky and kinda hard. The essays take a lot of time and effort but she gives you a day off to work on them. even though the tests are mostly based on lectures, i recommend reading the textbook or at least bring it on the test day. it'll help a lot because the tests are open book/notes.

Banks made the course more interesting than I thought it was going to be. Grade based off of 3 MC exams and 3 essay assignments. Exams can be hard (though they are open note\book\internet) and the essays are time consuming but she tends to grade on a curve. She also drops a lot of hints in lecture about what is going to be on the essay\exam.

3 essay projects all take home with class time to do it. Essays require you think but open notes/internet and she tells you what she wants to see in essays. 3 MC tests which are tricky but she grades on curve and tells you questions but you have to study don't expect to look up all the answers during test EXCELLENT teacher Super fun class lecture

Test are hard even if open notes. For essays if you dont put a lot of information she tells you in class you lose points. I did fine but I could have done better if i tried more. She helped me a lot with my work problems and schedule. I liked her class and even I did not speak in class she still knew who I was and helped me the same, shes cool.

I'm poli sci major. Noone explains concepts as well as she does! She starts with foundation concepts, diagrams concepts then demonstrates how they relate with life examples. If you can hang with no power points & discussion type lectures with outline written on white board then you will learn a lot. She is very visual teacher. The BEST here by far!

Her class is 90% lectures. They may be boring if you're not interested but she makes them kinda funny. you take about 3 long tests and three easy research papers. Tests are open book, notes, internet, anything!! Do not get the book!! you won't need it.

I learned so much in this class! I was seriously interested in every lecture. The fact that she has a background in law really helps give meaning to the justice system and laws. The tests weren't terrible, but note taking is completely essential! Only one project really, and it was easy peasy. Love her, loved this class.

One word to describe Banks: intense. If you don't speak up in class she will openly dislike you. She is very playful, but in a mean spirited way. She won't hesitate to single you out. Grade is determined by long tests, mc and essay. She wants you to argue and takes the opposing side no matter what. Very fun class, but not for the faint of heart.

Banks is indeed intense She loves politics I always thought she was fair even when it bugged me at times that she could she see both sides. The first class I took at MPC and the best so far. Took her during the summer and it made going to an 8 am not a drag. She tells you what is on the test and during the summer the test is take home. She made me realize how important our rights are and actually made a government class interesting.

don't get the book don't get the book. you have to attend class in order to pass the exams. only a midterm and a final, however all answers can be found in your notes so you actually do have to take notes during her lectures. all she does is lecture and you have to keep up with her. she comes off a bit intimidating. she's a current lawyer!

I did not have any interest in politics before her class. Her class goes by fast because she is so interesting. She is one of my favorite teachers at this school. I took her class for General Ed credit and I am bummed I cannot take another class. She is an amazing woman and every class she made me laugh ! She is a lawyer too and knows the law well.

Prof. Banks is an amazing person. Her class is really fun and easy to understand. As a dual-enrollment high school student, I didn't find the tests or essays hard at all and I got a solid A. So I believe all of you guys can do well too as long as you follow her instructions and work hard.

Taking Banks' class this Summer was worth getting to school at 8am. She's informative, entertaining, kind, and truly wants each of her students to do well and understand the material. We were graded on a midterm, an essay, and a final, but so long as you come to each of her classes, you'll know everything you need to do well. She's a real gem.

Banks is an amazing teacher when it comes to lecturing. Organization and clarification on assignments needs a little work, putting in all the grades including extra credit, having the right syllabus, and giving us enough time to do the assignments, but overall, I learned a lot, and was worth taking during the summer.

By far one of the best instructors I have encountered. Professor Banks is engaging, funny, and clearly passionate about her teaching profession. There is a good amount of work and showing up to the lectures to take some great notes is very important.

The teacher usually assigns homework to be completed in chunks every week. She gives lectures on Tuesdays and gives us Thursdays to work on assignments (no lecture). The lectures are amazing, and usually helps demonstrate the main points through interesting anecdotes.

Sonia Banks is JUST AN AMAZING TEACHER!!! As an attorney she knows her subject matter so well but she also knows how to explain it to students. Go to class lecture and you will get an A. She tells you what she wants you to know. I learned so much and did not think I was going to like the class and it became my favorite class ever.

Seriously the most caring, understanding, hilarious, and knowledgeable woman I've ever met. She is fair to everybody, and cares about each one of her students understanding. Along with making things understandable, she makes the political state of the world a bit less dark and scary. Best teacher I've ever had, would vote her president.

Banks is a really good teacher. Uses real life stories to help you see the vision clearer. Very clear on her assignments does not offer extra credit only for is she gives you two points for each time you show up to class. Attendance isn't required but if you go to every lecture you don't really need the book as long as you understand the concept.

Great professor! Very confident and knows her ish. The only issue was the tests never aligned with what we talked about in class. Meaning there was information on the tests we hadn't gone over yet and the wording would be confusing to understand. Other than that, loved her class. Excellent storyteller and you can tell she loves what she do!

Perhaps the best instructor I've ever had. Extremely interesting, engaging, and inspirational lectures. Very down to earth, and comical when teaching, making classes very fun. Assignments were never particularly difficult, but make sure to use her lecture notes for best scores. Take this class, you will NOT regret it!

If you have to take a PoliSci class TAKE HER CLASS!! She uses real life examples in class and is super engaged with her students. It's not your typical class where you sit and take notes from a PowerPoint, it's engaging and fun. I loved her class so much.
