Idiot. I think she is a grad student. First year teaching. mind-numbing. talks to us like children. babbles. seems to know the info but not how to teach it. i DO not recommend her!
She is horrible. I feel dumber coming out of her class. She sucks and only requires us to do C&V and to come to class because otherwise she know's we would do nothing and never come - and she'd be fired. i hate her!
horrible teacher, treats you like you are still in high school and very unreasonable about assignments-willing to answer questions or help outside class but her personality is so awful it makes you not want to ask
She treats you like you are a little kid, but as long as you do the C&V and know basic math, you can make a good grade
easiest math class i've ever taken. all homework is optional. she freaks out when the class isn't quiet & you feel like youre back in H.S. but i think she's a nice lady. all exams are testing to see if you know the basics, not all the complicated crap.
If you are looking for an easy A take her class. If you are a math major then I suggest taking someone a little harder so you would actually learn more upper level applications.
Sonia Parker is clearly the best teacher in the UNCW system. I am completely math illiterate and still managed a B in her class - without doing one single assignmnet. She is very fond of the word 'calculator'. She rocks.
Sonia Parker is the best teacher ever. I do horribly in math and I have an A in her class. She gives extra credit and is very reasonable about grading. I would strongly recomend if you want an A. Dont forget your "Cakalator"
I had Ms. Parker for MAT 111 and 151, and she makes the classes both REALY easy...I highly suggest her if you want to learn something and get an easy A.
I think she's a good teacher, and really easy as long as you do C&Vs. I never really get math but I did good in her class, so I recommend her.
i enjoyed her class very much. she broke things down and helped you understand everything. her grading was also awsome. if u got something wrong thats one thing but she gave you points for getting the idea of it... take her!
Sonia Parker was Great! I am so horrible in math, but she broke it all down, making easy to understand! Do the homework and practice problems for the test and you should get an A! The best Math teacher EVER!
Great teacher. She is very helpful and really wants to do everything she can to help people with math. Her tests and grading are very fair. If you have to take math take her!
great teacher if you hate math. puts everything in simple terms i kinda wanted to hit her when i got a B+ for my final grade after I had gotten A's on EVERY test, but she has a screwy grading scale (similar to high school).
I HATE math so much and she broke EVERYTHING down so that you understand it. She is very annoying in class because she expects you to answer every single question out loud and participate. Teaches like a kindergarten teacher but if you hate math, take her
Ms. Parker is what?....a good teacher. For those of you in her class, you'd understand what I meant by that. She makes everything very simple and easy, and if you need to take a Math class, take her and you're guarenteed to be satisfied with your grade.
had her for 111 and now 151...if you can take her, you should, she explains everthing very clear and gives partial credit! Bottom line..you try--she tries harder...however, if you are a math genius..take someone else, she may move to slow for you...finally a prof for the rest of us!
the way she teaches really annoys me but she is easy so take her.
She examples everything really well. For 111, she was kinda annoying b/c I already knew half the stuff, but I'm taking her again for 151 b/c I know she'll explain it really well and make sure I understand it.
Horrible teacher. This is the worse teacher i ever had. She acted weird and could NOT teach. I knew more about the subject than her. She gave out spots on a day when we weren't required to come because she knew she would get low scores. Said random stuff that didn't apply to class.
Calculus isn't the easiest class in the world, but Ms. Parker goes everything SO well and always asks if people have any questions. I'm very happy that I took her because she explains things in detail and was always available outside of class for any help that I needed.
The guy, above, who gave Ms. Parker a bad rating is someone who is talking crazy, who probably got a bad grade! Ms Parker is a great professor and anyone would be lucky to have her!
She's sooo sweet!! An awesome teacher! Everyone should take her!
Ms. Parker is so willing to help. She is the sweetest lady ever! Some people think she can't teach, probably don't go to class. She's a great teacher. I loved her!
I had her for 111 and 151. She is a great teacher and always there for questions. She really cares about her students and wants to make sure they understand. She is flexible with things and tests are fair. Do the homework and go to class and u should be fine. Definately take her. She's the best.
TALKS TOO FAST!
I hate Math and am really bad at it, but she goes above and beyond to help out her students. I wound up getting an a simply because I did the homework and paid attention in class. The class sucks, but she understands that. Definitely take her if you have to take math!! She's cool!
Parker is great at teaching calc. She simplifies things out so students truely understand what she is trying to teach. She loves answering questions too, which is crazy! Also, very understanding with situations. I definitely suggest you take her for any math!
Good Professor!
Pretty easy, especially for a calculus class. kinda difficult to keep up with sometimes.
Good professor for calculus, explains everything really well, does go fast at times when she gets a little behind schedule, but otherwise she's really good. Quizzes and tests aren't that hard as long as you know the basic concepts and she's always willing to help and likes for you to ask questions when you don't understand.
Great math teacher! I never really did that great in math until I took this class. She explains everything you need to know for her tests. Study a little bit and do some of the homework problems and you'll do fine!
Pretty good teacher! She likes to hear her students ask questions, so don't be afraid to ask questions.
If you don't like her teaching, it is only because you are lame. She absolutely gives you the most oppurtunities to succeed and if you don't its because you are lazy. This prof is too good. I would recommend her to anyone. She truly makes the class interesting. And she tells a lot of jokes all of the time..usually amusing ones. You will truly enjoy
Hate math, and dreaded having to take Calculus. Needed to make a C for Ed requirements. Needless to say, this woman made the material easy and the class was rather enjoyable. Good teacher. Do the homework, but not all at once. save a little bit to study for the test. Making a B after starting with a D-- the best math teachers Ive ever had
GREAT TEACHER!!! She will help you in any way she can.
Maybe this is just b/c my class was at 8 in the morning, but I don't know what everyone else is talking about. She is nice, but she is really hard to keep up with, doesn't give you time to digest information. The way she lectures is annoying, she trys to make the class finish her sentences. I guess everyone else liked taking 1-2 quizzes per week
Awesome teacher! She does give quizzes but they are typically from the HW. She is more then willing to meet with people and help them in any way she can. She has a way of teaching math that really makes sense. She is not going to ask you dumb minute details but she wants you to get the big picture. I would def. advise everyone to take her!
Bottom Line: The best Prof. ever. She's very understanding and is willing to help you outside of class. If you do the work you should make a really good grade *hint* (A+). Don't do the work and you could probably pass as long as you come to class.
take the class if you are fluent in ebonics
Best math teacher i ever had. I made a C in high school calculus and ended up with a 100 in this class. She explains things very clear and concise, and she gives extra credit. AWESOME teacher!
Great teacher, very helpful. Explains things so that they are easily understood. Tests and quizzes are straight forward.
THE BEST MATH PROF. UNCW HAS! If you're like me, weak in math, take her class. I've never has such a WONDERFUL math professor. She uses EXAMPLES to teach, not try to lecture on useless details like other math professor. Quiz, take home assignments and exams are all do-able. TAKE HER CLASS!
I don't know how Parker teaches in other classes but she did a terrible job in Trig! She teaches from powerpoints & tells you there's not enough time to take notes so you end up teaching yourself from the book. She makes you pay $40 for an online program so that she doesn't have to make up quizzes, but then it grades your answers wrong.
Ms.Parker is hard and a bit rushed at time but she is a GREAT instructor!I agree that the online program is really annoying and is difficult to use. She isn't "easy" but I learned a lot! She is really nice and helpful...I recommend that you stop by her office and ask her for help..I did and ended up with a good grade. Do the homework!
I haven't had a math class in years and certainly never a calculus class but she made calculus very easy and at times fun... Tests were on fridays and I'd still go out everything thursday, always did fine on the tests... A overall, :-)
horrible teacher....if you can even call what she does teaching....if you take her just expect to basically teach yourself all the material becasue she sure as hell wont do it.
Parker is by far one of the worst professors I have ever had at UNCW. She teaches way too fast and rarely stops to answer questions unless they are from her favorite students. She is also highly inconsistent with her assignments and very unclear as to what she wants at times. I would not recommend her for anyone, especially if you are weak in math
She is an understanding woman and will help you, I recommend going by her office first, with anything. Her tests are tedious, and she can sometimes be confusing in class, but all in all she's a good teacher.
disorganized, lives HOURS away and it only on campus the days she has class. if you miss a test b/c of sickness, she is impossible to contact b/c she won't give out a home phone number. might as well give up. i had to teach myself and spend hours and hours of time on homework, only to drop the class. i am very dissappointed in the misleading review
I failed this class with Brown in spring and made an A with her over summer. I thought she was very clear and I understood her SO much better than Brown. Fairly nice, tough tests, but good calc teacher. I recommend.
amazing teacher! really explains everything. tests are so easy. easy grader, teaches information very well. take this class if you have to take calc!
Parker is such a nice lady. She is so willing to help out and the test are very fair. Best teacher to take Calc with.
She moves reallllly fast. Homework isn't mandatory, so don't bother buying the book unless you want it for review purposes. She's really nice, and tests cover basic concepts. I wouldn't recommend her unless you're really good in math OR you're a fast self-learner.
moves VERY fast, dont bother coming to class if youre not prepared to pay absolute attention, or youll miss everything. other than that, great teacher.
She teaches extremely fast and it is very hard to catch up even if you miss one class. i would recommend SI sessions, it probably saved me from failing her class. She is helpful inside of class but does not respond to emails for anything. homework wasnt madatory and we rarely ever used the book. she does give quizzes every other class.
Terrible Teacher moves way to fast and gets confused herself.
Ms.Parker is a horrible teacher. I hated going to her class. She taught me nothing. She single handedly made me HATE math. I had to call previous high school math teachers to get help. I would never recommend her for anyone. I was easily distracted by her teeth until she had them fixed. I learned nothing from her class.
DON'T take this class if you're not great at math. she goes through really fast, doesn't explain anything or even TEACH for that matter, just gives homework. never returned emails, and goes out to lunch during her office hrs. I'm a great student, but I still got a C. if you're already in her class, sit in front so you can understand her mumbling..
Professor Parker was very helpful both in and out of class. The pace is really fast so you don't want to get behind. Test were difficult if you didn't study or practice the problems.
CAUTION: Do NOT take class with Ms. Parker! She moves WAY to fast. As fills the board she erases it. No time for asking questions b/c she plans to cover 4 chapters in a 50 min. class. Quiz everyday. Makes u feel stupid for asking questions. I literally had to teach MYSELF everything she talked about in class.
I thought Ms. Parker was a good teacher. She is nice as she can be, and is willing to break things down until you can understand everything without making you feel dumb. Always in an upbeat mood. Quizzes are ridiculously easy. Tests are easy too. If you are good at math, she is pretty easy. If you're not good at math, you may have to pay attn
Parker is a great teacher - the material can be a little difficult but the class pace is very fast. Everyday was a struggle to keep up with class material. Fun class
Probabily one of the worse math teachers I have ever had. She moves to fast, doesn't give a lot of notes and expects you to know what she's talking about without even explaining anything to you. Don't take her if you can avoid her
horrible!! she pretends to be nice but talks down to students and insists that there is never time to answer questions she believes are obvious. we were all confused!! do not take trig from her!
Nice lady but was NOT meant to be a teacher. She literally chose the hardest way to explain anything. She will spend way too much time going over things that are common sense, and spend no time at all on things that are actually difficult. Also more worried about finishing each section than teaching it.
Terrible Teacher. She pretends to be nice and happy all of the time, but in reality she talks down to students, especially ones who are struggling with the material. Tests and quizzes are not hard, but you need to teach yourself.
SOnia is awesome. she can be a little bit hard to fllow in class, but if you go to office hours she'll hook you up. Very lenient on the grading of tests, gives all kins of partial credit.
I really enjoyed Prof. Parker's Class. I found it really enjoyable. I did well in the class, but I did my homework. Stay on top of your stuff and you'll enjoy it!
Caution: Do not take this class if you are a mediocre math student. Goes by very fast does'nt explain things well. lots and lots and lots of online hw, exams and in class exams. belittles you if you ask questions
This class requires an immense amount of algebra knowledge. If you are not strong in algebra, I suggest a thorough review because she will not wait for you to catch up. Do the homework and get help from the TA when needed and you will do fine.
She is a great professor! She makes calculus an enjoyable experience and is always willing to help students.
Ms. Parker is an awesome professor; I'm not even that great at math but I got an A in the class. She is willing to help in any way she can, and she loves if you ask questions. She jokes around, so just engage with her, laugh with her, and ask her questions and you'll be fine. Sidenote: GO TO CLASS or you'll fall behind
great calc teacher. always available for help, funny, and makes things easy. go to class or you will fall behind.. but class is enjoyable and goes by quick. DEFINITELY take her!!
I love Professor Parker! Best math teacher around! I almost failed calculus last year and I absolutely hated the subject but this class has been amazing. She is always open to questions. Half of her test is online and the part in-class has 6 extra credit points built in. Take her!!
Very annoying teacher. She does not explain concepts, she just solves problems and expects you to understand them. Her notes are terrible. Hopefully you can find a better professor for calc!
very nice but doesnt explain anything! will leave problems unsolved, which wont help you come time to take the online test/homeworks
What a crappy teacher. She is so wishy washy. You have to teach yourself. Go to the math lab and/or the TA review sessions, those REALLY help. She doesn't. She tries to pretend like she is nice, but she's not genuine. She will make you feel like a bad student. Good luck.
TAKE HER CLASS. I loved it. I had taken a calc before her class, and was so confused. She cleared things right up. Makes jokes and comments, and explains everything! Great professor! HW's are online and are easy. Tests are about 16 questions and were not impossible. Loved Ms. Parker.
Great Professor!!! She makes class fun and keeps things energetic at 9am, and she is very responsive to questions. You have online hw assignments for each section but they are only 10 questions and you get 5 tries to do them. The tests are part online and part in class. Overall definitely a great class!
Okay teacher, first part of test is online, second part is in class...all of her notes are online and really easy to read and understand.I never went to class and still received an A. She teaches very simply, kind of like we are in elementary school but its all good, take her if you can.
I was scared to take calculus, but Ms. Parker made it easy! I pulled a 100 in there. What I liked most about her was that she truly cared about the students and wanted us to learn. She posts all her notes, makes helpful files available on Blackboard, sends out reminders in the email, and constantly encourages the students. She's great!
Excellent professor, she is very good, take her!
Ms. Parker must have changed her teaching methods because nothing these other students noted is accurate except the last one. She is terrible. I learned nothing. She puts notes on line but you can't print them. The print is hard to see on a computer.
Parker is GREAT!!! She's super helpful and makes these amazingly corny jokes in class that keep things interesting. She moves at a moderate pace--a little slow for people that get the concept and maybe a little too fast for students that are struggling. But she saves the last 5 mins of class for questions, which is nice. Great teacher !
Ms parker is one of the worst teachers i have ever had, she does not do a good job of explaining things clearly. She gives you a handout and then just reads the handout and doesn't do any examples. Wants things done her way and math must be in correct "mathematical syntax" if you learn by examples then DO NOT take this class.
She is a good teacher and puts all her notes online. The information is hard, but as long as you go to class and pay attention you will understand. There is homework online due for every section, but it is helpful. If you do the homework and keep up you should do fine.
Ms. Parker is definitely one of the best professors I've had so far. She does everything possible to make sure that her students do well. Her explanations can be slightly unclear at times, but the quantity of online study aids, reviews and further digital explanations more than make up for it. Would highly recommend taking her class.
She puts all of her notes online which allows her students to focus on what she's saying. She knows the importance of the basics and she makes sure her students know them so that they can do well throughout the semester. What makes her a great professor is that if math isn't your thing because she can make it your thing. Absolutely love her.
Very good professor. I never took pre-calc and I got an A. Go to class! she explains everything very well. HW assignments online. You do have to put a lot of study time into it.
Professor Parker is not a good math teacher. Although she is very nice, she's not very intelligent. She often lectured with little explanation or written work on the board. My final grade was a 79.7% and Parker gave me a C. I sent several emails in an attempt to raise my grade to a B- or even C+, however she refused to give me any chance.
So easy. Over a 100 average. All powerpoints are online. I don't even pay much attention in class and just look over all the notes the day before the test. Take her! She's super friendly and well worth the time! Multiple attempts on homework and plenty of extra credit on tests. Just remember, it is calculus.
Although she's very easy, she is an AWFUL professor. She uses little to no explanation and rushes through material in class. All of my learning was done on my own time. She also has irritating habits like typing "(smile)" into all of her emails. Avoid at all costs.
She was super unorganized. Half the time the solutions to the Exam reviews were wrong and she did not notice until class and then never changed the answer after the class. If you have her class GET OUT NOW!!
She's a very good calculus teacher, but she is often quite rude. I don't think she means to be rude, but if you don't like putting up with arrogant professors, take this with someone else.
Worst Math Professor i have ever had. Awful at explaining things, was very rude and sarcastic when answering questions and often made you feel like were stupid. Very unorganized with review guides and answers were often incorrect and never changed to help students. DO NOT TAKE CALCULUS WITH HER
She is willing to work with students who approach her. She explains thing well and sometimes she does not. She has online parts and in class parts of the test. Go to class she takes attendance. Don't bother getting the book she doesn't use it. She is a very sweet person but sometimes material is hard to understand.
I was nervous to take this class, but I ended up doing well because the teacher was really helpful. I saw the other reviews of her and didn't want to take it with her, but she was awesome! She is always so lively and funny, and really cares if her students are learning. Of course, the content of the class is hard, but she tries her best!
worst teacher i have ever had. i had to spend all of my time in the math lab as well as get an outside tutor.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! From the first day of class I knew that I had made a mistake by taking this professor. One minute you think you understand, and the next she confuses the hell out of you. Her teaching style is TERRIBLE; she does all the examples herself and reads off the power points. She also takes attendance every day, even with 100+.
Made me feel like I was in high school again and the way she teaches is just pathetic. DO NOT TAKE
Nice teacher, tough class. Goes very fast but does a lot of examples and posts all of her notes. Homeworks can actually be fairly tough.
Ms. Parker is a very nice lady, but sometimes she rushes through her lectures or makes mistakes and it makes things very confusing. However, she posts all her notes and other materials online so that you can refer back to them for homework help after class. There is a lot of homework, and you have to stay on top of it so you don't miss assignments.
Mrs. Parker is an amazing woman. She is very intelligent yet knows how to teach calculus to those who don't understand. She is helpful in class and open to any questions, but for more attention go to her during her office hours. She will sit down with you and teach you one on one and show you where you are going wrong. Loved her!
Mrs. Parker knows what she's talking about. There's no reason you should fail this course. There's plenty of homework assignments with multiple chances to get a 100. She posts all of her lectures on Blackboard. You can always go to her and ask questions. She's very nice, approachable, and tries to make the class as interesting as possible.
She helped me out so much this semester. At the beginning I was not doing well at all and then went to her office hours and asked for help. She is an amazing teacher and woman. TAKE HER!!
I would recommend her to anyone. Made Calculus easier than I expected. She gives you all the opportunities to get an A and exams have an open book online part which helps. She's available to help. Great Professor.
She's probably the best math teacher I have ever had. She is there to help and if you are willing to go to her when you need help, she will make time out of her day to get to you and make sure you understand. Her tests can be tricky, but half of it is online and open book so that definitely helps. She also has like a million things online to help.
She is an amazing instructor! The best I have ever had. You are going to move really fast, because you have to, but she is there like 5 days a week. She puts a ton of extra stuff, including her lecture notes, hand written and typed online with her work as well. If you are not lazy you should pass. If you ask for help she will be happy to help.
I took Calc last semester and got a D-.. I took it with Sonia and I got an A! She is so explanatory and really wants you to learn. Always willing to help, makes the material easy, and makes you laugh a lot!! Homework is straightforward and so are her tests. Attendance is mandatory but you get 3-4 unexcused absences. I would LOVE to take her again!!
She's sweet, she really is. And she really wants you to do well, but she's unorganized and spacey and leaves a lot of typos in her own work.
The sweetest professor I've had. Really goes over everything in detail and lays out everything for you. Do the online homework, because I didn't, well I didn't try on it, and it really does effect your grade. Attendance isn't really mandatory but if you've never taken calc before, go to class. She's a funny lady but she's great.
Professor Parker is an amazing professor. I had to take this class for a business school requirement, and was worried about tacking calculus. But with office hours, homework, class examples and great notes it made calculus a lot easier. I would really recommend her, she cares a lot about her students and she loves teaching.
BEST math professor I've had. I've taken College Algebra 3 times at 3 different colleges and have never passed, let alone understood the material. I took the course of the summer and it was very fast paced but do able. She really cares about her students and even took the time to remember everyones name even though the course was 4 weeks long.
I really struggled with this class because her teaching style didn't click with mine at all. I never understood anything she was talking about and couldn't follow her lectures for the life of me. She moves very quickly and in a confusing way. If you fail one test you're pretty screwed for the rest of the semester.
The issue with this class is that the material is hard and you have to go through it quickly. The professor really cares about her students but she is sometimes scatter-brained and forgets what she is talking about. If you have never seen calculus before, spend a lot of time paying attention to the material & study it often or you will not do well.
I really like her as a person, but her style of teaching just does not work with me. She over explains things, causing me to become confused. If you want to do well, spend time studying the material, because winging it will not work.
hw:online- you can retake it as many times to get a 100 test:50% online 50% in class parker: she's a really sweet and funny teacher. do NOT take her mtw 50 min class if u do not know calc.. she rushes thru the material but will help u outside of class. just don't take her if math isn't ur strong subject. takes attendance but doesn't penalize
Professor Parkers is a very sweet lady and cares for her students. Before this class, I had no previous knowledge in calculus. I had to work super hard to earn an A by going to her office hours and studying a lot. She is very helpful if you go to her office hours, but during class she kind of rushes through some things which can make it confusin
She rushes through the lectures so you have to do a lot of learning on your own. Theres mymathlab homework which can be hard, but you get unlimited attempts so you can get 100%. She's very sweet and offers her help but she was very scattered and took forever to post grades. The tests were hard!! Don't recommend her if you aren't good at math.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. Professor Parker comes across as very disorganized in class, she speeds through the material, so your expected to read through the lecture notes. The only good thing about this class was the exams were part online and the other part in class. Also her grading scale does not include minuses or pluses.
I really enjoyed Parker's calculus class. She cares a lot about her students, and is available a lot outside of class if you need extra help. Do the homework and check your emails and this class is an easy B, but can be brought up to an A with a little extra work or if you have an affinity for math.
Mrs. Parker is such a character. I usually don't like higher-level math teachers but she's great! Her explanations are easy to understand/follow and she is full of puns and bad jokes. She wants you to do well in the class so she is always willing to help.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS! You will be learning the material yourself. Might be a great person but horrible professor.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU'RE BAD AT MATH! She is such a sweet person but a TERRIBLE professor for people that don't catch on very well. Impossible to follow along with. Very bad at explaining. Speeds through material assuming everyone gets it on the first try. Unless you can teach yourself or find a tutor, I wouldn't recommend her.
Ms. Parker makes calculus so easy. She provides an abundance of sources and the MathLab is always available. She makes time outside of class for her students to meet with her. As long as you show up, do your homework (you get unlimited attempts so its impossible not to get a 100), and actually pay attention/try, you will get an A.
Prof. Parker is probably on my list of worst math teachers at UNCW. If you understand math and calculus ab, she will confuse you with overly complicated rules and procedures. Secondly, Parker adds questions to tests that we have never, ever, ever seen/ gone over/ or heard of. Do not take Parker's class!
If you took calc in high school you will do fine, if not, she has a very confusing way of explaining math. Be prepared to go to MathLab... a lot.
Prof. Parker always seems flustered and in a hurry. She rushes through lectures and doesn't wait for everyone to catch on. I would advise not to interrupt her (even if she is making a mistake) because she can be rude. She does drop a lot of grades at the end, but unless you are very good at math I would suggest going with another professor.
Rushes through lectures and is horrible at explaining things. Makes rude remarks when questions are asked. Says "are you with me?" at least 50 (we counted) times a class, so if that would bother you (it will) don't take her class.
Professor Parker really cares about her students and wants everyone to succeed. However, she goes really fast in lecture and often makes mistakes when teaching because she is in a rush and doesn't answer questions in lecture. She is available outside class and drops a lot of grades at the end of the semester. Kind of hard to fail this class.
Dr. Parker seems to be a caring professor, however she rushes through the material and makes a great amount of mistakes that make it more confusing than it should be. I spent most of the semester using Khan Academy to teach myself the material.
Very Easy 151 class, put in your time and study and you will come out with a High B or A. half the exams are online, use this to your advantage. Tons of free quizzes , 10/10 would recommend
She doesnt really know whats going on. jumps around everywhere
She moves super fast through class notes you cannot even write them down. She will turn her back talk to the board, write a problem for five plus minutes talking super fast and ends with are you with me? Students reply no she replies good. Over half the class failed the last test, which reflects on her teaching more so than the students.
Very inconsistent with her grading.. says shell work to give you the most points/ partial credit, then takes off the most she possibly can. Is very unhelpful with homework, says the program learns to give you problemes best for each student yet it takes students 5+ hours to complete and she will not offer any help. If you take her good luck.
Great teacher! Definitely would love to take her Spanish class again.
Very bad teacher. I feel like I have learned nothing from her all semester. Would never take her class again.
She is the absolute worst math professor I have ever had, she goes way too fast and teachers like you should already know the material. I had to go to math lab every day and get a tutor just to be able to survive this class. If you have the option not to take her I would heed this warning.
No extra credit, no outside help, doesn't care if you pass or not.
She is a nice person and she cares but this course was SO HARD!!!!! She tells us to do the study guides and use ALEKS (online textbook) to study and I did and I didn't get above an F on any of her tests. If you take this course go to her office hours and the tutoring! Also, every friday is a group open note quiz which was nice. Be prepared to work!
Very fast lectures. Do not take if you can not catch on to math very quickly.
Shes just not a good teacher. Being able to do the math and properly explain it are two differrent things.
goes through the lecture very fast and does not answer questions because "there is not enough time." honestly nice person, but doesn't explain the material well. If you are not good at math I would choose a different teacher. you have to teach yourself the material
Ms. Parker is hands down my favorite professor this semester. I was nervous of having to take college level calculus, but the class was enjoyable and I loved having her. She made time to answer as many questions she could and gave us opportunities to get a good grade. Keep in mind, this is a college course so practicing outside of class is needed.
She talks way too fast and teaches super complex subjects in 30 minutes or less, which is not enough time to actually learn them. She expects you to do a lot of the learning on your own. Her grading scale is the only thing good about her class. She drops 3 homeworks + 3 quizes and half of her tests are online which can really boost your grade.
This has been my favorite class I've taken. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you have to go if you want to do good b/c it is calculus. She is a great teacher and provided a lot of shortcuts/ tricks that I still use in MAT162. The exams are half online and half in-class, and she drops a ridiculous amount of assignments at the end of the semester.
This is the only class Ive ever dropped. She rarely would work on problems in class, instead shed put up PowerPoints and expect you to be able to follow them without showing you. Some problems on the test I was able to solve in a way that wasnt how she taught us and she gave me a 0 on those. I would not reccomend her if you struggle with math.
I had to go to the Math Lab after every class because I had no idea what she was talking about.
Sonia Parker is a nice lady but her lectures are very fast paced. She also posts quizzes last minute instead of having them in the course schedule from the beginning of the year. If you are good with math then she is a good choice but not if you struggle. Half of her tests are online and half in class.
Ms. Parker is a nice person out of class but in class shes super high maintenance and dont try to correct her or shell get an attitude. I would not recommend her if your bad at math. She post random quizzes and random unnecessary stuff on canvas. Her lecture notes are hard to follow and she doesnt teach all the material so be prepared or drop
Parker is such a nice lady but she does not take time to go over the material. Her lectures are very fast paced and good luck trying to keep up. She gives way too many quizzes and a lot of homework. I would not recommend taking her class if you struggle in math. Oh, & if you have a question she'll ask you to ask after class or make a smart comment.
Calc is a hard class in general so any teacher you have for it is gonna be tough, I would recommend taking Parker because half of the exams are online and all the quizzes/hw is online as well. The rest are tough but if you study you should be fine
The subject matter is hard. It's calc. Of course you have to work hard in and outside of class. BUT she truly cares whether or not her students are grasping the subject matter. I spent hours outside of her class with her by my side, explaining the content in different ways until I understood. She wants everyone to succeed, and it really shows!
Goes over concepts ridiculously quickly, and gives you hardly any time to solve problems for yourself in-class. Literally the most difficult and hard to follow math class I've ever taken. Unless you can pick up math concepts the instant they're presented, you will *have* to get tutoring, or help online. Also gives last second hw and quizzes online
Parker is a sweet lady and really cares about her students. She goes through the lectures quickly, but always offers chances to ask questions and time to see her outside of class. Even though it's a boring class, she always kept me engaged and focused. As long as you keep up with assignments online and study for tests, you should do fine.
She's a nice person but not a good teacher. Don't take her if you haven't taken calc yet. She goes through lectures very fast and doesn't seem like she is willing to help when people don't understand. It seems like she understands this calc and can't understand why you wouldn't.
Overall, an easy class if you have prior higher level math experience. You have to show up, do the homeworks, and pay attention. Exams are thoroughly outlined and much easier than anything on the homework. If you need help, her office hours are very helpful. You have to do work in this class but it isn't difficult, just consistent.
She was an okay professor for coming in and taking over midway through the semester
Sonia Parker is a very well informed professor who cares about helping students. However, her knowledge in math does not carry over into her teaching ability. She made the website unnecessarily complicated and sent out constant announcements that make little to no logical sense.
She's an awful teacher. No if's, and's, or but's about it. She is intelligent, yes. BUT-- not a college professor. I've never seen a professor create a labyrinth of information and postings and emails. Like, just keep it freakin' simple. Just calm down, lady. Her canvas is a mess, and flat out unhelpful. I was told to choose her, but save yourself.
Just didn't care for her teaching style. Very dry/by the book with very technical and confusing notes. Doesn't give you much time for quizzes. Does not give you credit if you solve a problem with the wrong method but still get the right answer.
Professor Parker is a sweet lady. She seems to honestly care about her students. She helped me when I would stay after class or attend her office hours. Calc is generally a hard class, so you NEED to keep up with the homework. There is a lot of homework but it really helps you understand better. There is also a lot of extra credit on exams :)
Currently taking her for MAT 111 online. One of the worst teachers Ive had at UNCW. She does not teach or lecture but instead gives you an outline, a few youtube videos, and practice problems. If youre not very good at math and dont already know what your doing, dont take her class.
Currently taking her online MAT111 class. I agree with others saying her info is overloaded and confusing. She does not actually do the teaching, so be prepared for that if you have to take her online class. Everything is through ALEKS (it costs $). Additionally, she expects you to give 100% of your time to that class, and is very rude about it.
Assigned quizzes every Friday that only open at midnight and close at midnight. Im a straight A student who struggled
Do not take anything this woman is the instructor for. She is very rude when she does communicate with students. She uses Aleks to do all the work for her and even then will change your grade. She seems to have been on vacation this semester instead of doing her job. The material is not difficult, the lack of support from her is pathetic.
I did well in the calculus online course but I chose to leave a review because I have honestly never seen a teacher that does less for her students. If you email her to ask about questions, she meets you with attitude and disrespect right of the bat. She will either be rude or simply never answer your emails. No lectures, all homework.
I have never taken a class with such a rude and condescending professor. She is not accessible outside of class and is extremely rude when you do try to access her outside of class. She does absolutely nothing for her students and does not care at all if they learn or not. Avoid this professor at all costs if you can.
I feel pain for anyone taking this instructor. Whole semester never saw her face, aka she doesn't teach, it's all ALEKS. She sends extremely rude & condescending group emails to students . She is unapproachable & patronizing. Her canvas page is complete chaos, littered with gifs & unnecessary redundancy. She changes grades without logic. Run away.
We learned everything through MyLab math. All her emails were condescending & extremely rude. If you tried to reach her outside of class, she rarely responded & if she did, it was several days later & very rude. She acts like everyone should already know all the material & she's just there to put the grades in Canvas. I won't be taking her again.
I ended up deciding to take this class as my brother had her in person and other reviews seemed positive. Every good review about Ms. Parker in person I can neither confirm nor deny, but her lack of care and overall commitment to helping students learn anything is sad. 3 tests that determine your grade, no communication, rude and condescending.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!! This was the worst class/professor I have ever had. Sonia was very unorganized didnt communicate well and did not explain anything that she taught. Ruined a semester of my college experience. Made my life awful.
I usually do not rate if I have a negative review, but I'm making an exception for Parker. She's like everyone is saying. Your questions and pleas for help are ignored or met with arrogant, rude, and flippant and largely unhelpful feedback. She did not teach anything. Just ALEKS and some random videos that did not help. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS
This is probably one of the worst professors I've ever had. She literally decided to change the grade weight in her class two weeks before the end of the semester if that doesn't explain enough. She doesn't teach the class and expects you to teach yourself. She is so rude when you email for help and her answer to everything is "check the syllabus".
If your reading this, the answer is no, don't take ANY of her classes. Professor Parker showed no effort to teach in her online course. The homework assignments are dumped on you in masses. She simply releases all the module assignments on one day and says get ready for the test. The program you pay for does all the grading while she sits back.
If I could rate her a 0 I would. I have never felt more disrespected and uncared for as a student in my entire life. She shouldn't have even been considered a professor for the online 111 class because I never even saw her teach once. She sends the most condensing emails as well. If you want to ruin your semester take her online class.
Sonia Parker was very unhelpful. Emailed for help multiple times very specific questions regarding grades, among other things, and only received one message from her that basically said "read the syllabus". I wrote back to her expecting to hopefully get an actual response but I was promptly ghosted. Very tough class and I would not recommend her
Rude and easy to anger. Makes you feel dumb for asking questions. Does not teach only solves problems on the board. You learn everything through the homework software ALEKS. Got many rude and condescending emails in response to simply emailing her questions/letting her know she made a mistake on Canvas. Disappears after class unable to be reached
Professor Parker is a really sweet person and genuinely wants her students to succeed; however, the way she teaches is sometimes hard to follow. She teaches really fast and expects students to learn and understand the material quickly. You will probably have to teach yourself a lot of the material outside of class.
Mrs. Parker is a great lady and really cares about her students. The class itself is not too bad but she does teach fast at times. The homework is a lot and if you leave it last minute you will easily spend at least 5 hours on it. Good teacher but hard class!
Terrible class, little to no online communication, the class material was relatively easy depending on how math savvy you are. The only problem with the class is this professor. Sonia Parker ignores emails and questions that can deeply impact your grade, even when something goes wrong due to an error she caused. Avoid if you care for your grades.
This was probably one of the hardest courses I have taken. Nothing is clearly stated and you leave every class even more confused than the class before. Emails can never be clear and everything has to lead back to what was stated in the syllabus. Save yourself the head ache and do not take this class.
Professor Parker was generally ok in person. She teaches SUPER fast during lecture which makes it hard to genuinely learn. For me, the work being all online was nice, I prefer that. I learned more on Pearson than I did in class. Overall this class is extremely hard. Tons of homework but no quizzes! Do not wait last minute for the homework either..
Horrible, absolutely horrible. Does everything she can to make her life easier, even if it means screwing you over. Terrible professor, does not teach, just talks. Every time you email her asking for help, all she will do is respond with sass and be passive aggressive. Does not answer emails and when she does, it is blatantly rude. awful.
super unorganized. if you make mistakes responds with a lot of sass and passive aggressiveness. goes ahead of exams, like for the last 3-5 classes before the 1st exam we were working on exam 2 material which makes it confusing to study and makes you forget exam 1 stuff. does explain things decently well in class does give a good amount of homework.
Do not take this course. Every inquiry about the class (both content and tech-related) has been met with 1) nothing or 2) a rude, passive-aggressive comment. There is no help and her class is unorganized and confusing. The grading on Pearson is even worse, as well as her deadlines. Spare yourself.
I wish I had never taken this class, I'm not looking forward to teaching myself calculus in order to pass because her lectures make no sense and the way the exams are set up makes it hard to know what you're going to be tested on. The proctoring malware she makes you install on your computer makes the exams more stressful than in-person ones.
Just don't take this class
She is one of the worst professors I have in countered at UNCW. I had a 98% total for the assignments and then made a 66% on an exam which dropped my grade from an A to a low C. She does not give extensions no matter what the excuse is (she said she does not care if you’re sick, you must complete all assignments on time). Never take her class.
80% exam (1,2,3 and final), 20% homework. Final will replace the lowest exam grade. I have A in the class right now since I am a stats major, but I am here to tell you the class started with over 50 students with less than 15 remain. I am sure that gives you a good insight on how this class will go. My advice is to chose a different professor.
Ms. Parker is not a good professor at all. She rushes through the material so fast you cant even understand it. all of the calculus teachers at UNCW are terrible which doesn't help. i would try to stay away from professor parker.
I am sorry but I would not take this class again. Few tests for big grade. She doesnt listen or try to understand students.
I stopped going to class after the first two weeks. She spends a lot of time on easy stuff and flies thru the hard things. I taught the whole class to myself w/homeworks. Calc is already a tough class, but she doesn't make it much easier.
She is absolutely horrendous. She does not care about your grade in the class or you as a person. Her lectures have nothing to do with the assignments you are given, and it does not even matter if you show up to class because all the homework and exams are online through an online program. So do yourself a favor and stay away from her.
I wouldn't consider myself a math genius, but I am usually capable of understanding multiple topics before a text, This teacher however makes all the tests online with microphone and camera mandatory, and the problems aren't anything like the homework. It was so hard.
Not good. Spends time on things that are easy, no time on hard stuff. Homework is nothing like exams. Heard she is harder than other teachers from my friends. Do not take.
Parker cares about her students doing well and she's respected by a lot, but I personally didn't enjoy her or her class. I think there are better professors to take, especially for such a difficult topic such as calc.
She cares a lot about her students you can tell by the way she teaches. The only thing that I would say is that there are simply teachers that have easier classes. Math 111 was not hard to take and her lectures were easy to follow along with. If you do your aleks then and follow the lectures the test follow along well.
DO NOT TAKE MATH 151 WITH SONIA PARKER! This is basic calculus but going in with no knowledge of calculus, its hard to learn. She races through the material and expects you to learn the harder topics on your own. It is three exams each worth 20% and before every exam around 20 homeworks are due that aren't similar to what she teaches.
RUN. FAST. Parker is the worst professor I have ever taken. She does not teach, she does not care about her students, and she sends the most passive-aggressive emails ever. I have never struggled with math before but had to drop the class because she is that HORRIBLE. Hates when students ask questions, huge workload, AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. She will not teach you anything in class and expect you to learn it yourself out of class. Spent the first 40/50 minutes teaching you literally how to add 2+2 and then FLY through all of the difficult topics in the last 10 minutes. She does not care about her students and will make you feel belittled.
DO NOT TAKE HER. She will spend all of class on stuff everyone knows how to do and then rush the hard stuff that is on the tests. She sends out extremely passive aggressive posts on Canvas whenever a student emails her with a question. Her class is confusing and she seems like she is trying to teach herself at the same time. Just don't take her.
Shouldn't be able to teach and makes everything else more complicated than it should be. Absolute worse professor I have ever witnessed. I was always good at math but she definitely made everything more difficult.
Parker is a horrible instructor. She doesn't properly teach, but rather uses an online system and sends out other people's video material to do it for her. She sends out passive aggressive emails to students and gets mad when they ask for help. Use schedule wizard or whatever available to find out who is teaching courses and AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Im coming freshman that need to take math 111, do not select this professor. i dropped the class by the withdrawl date because of how bad this professor was. she doesnt care about the students, blames you if you dont know what youre doing in class and overall was just bad for my mental health. #staysafe
If you aren't already good at math, you probably won't do well with this professor. She can't teach, relies on other sources to teach her students for her. Also goes too fast without explaining things.
Overall, she teaches Calculus fine enough, but she is the most entitled teacher I have ever worked with. She talks like her students are children, can be very rude with some of her announcements, and expects you to understand her with her explaining herself. I would not recommend her at all
Sonia Parker is the most horrific professor I have ever had , you will probably walk out of class with less brain cells than when you entered. I can probably count on one finger how many times I have walked out of class feeling like I understood something. Its currently about 30 hours before the final exam and we are yet to hold ANY REVIEW SESSIONS
If you like teaching yourself then this is the professor for you. Relies on ALEKS to teach you, took her half of the semester to start teaching a small amount. She does not go over the problems well at all. The test scores don't make sense. I would avoid taking her class. She is nice(ish) but I am not sure how she is a teacher.
If I could give her a -5 rating i would. She is hands down the worst professor I have ever encountered in my 3 years at UNCW. EXTREMELY rude and condescending and does not care about her students at all. Tons of HW, will belittle you/disregard any questions you may have. She needs to be fired. DO NOT TAKE HER
This woman is hands-down the worst professor I have ever had. I never use rate my professor but this woman was deserving of a bad review. I took a summer class with her and her passive comments and memos were not needed. She would blame everything on every student just cause she did not want to go in and do the work.
Mat 151 was actually impossible; her lectures move at lightspeed, and her tests are the extremely difficult. Homework is also very different/harder than what us discussed in class.
Worst math professor I have ever had. Gets mad when you ask her questions in class. Humiliates other students for getting a question wrong or for asking for another example. Extremely condescending and does not teach. Goes over easy topics but does not thoroughly teach and cover the more difficult ones topics. I would not recommend.
Professor Parker is the most difficult professor I've ever met. Seems to be a fine enough person but I have never seen such passive aggressive responses to simple questions and concerns made by students. She is straight and to the point which I appreciate, but the attitude that she has toward people simply trying to ask a question is unreal.
This professor is arguably the unhelpful teacher I have ever had in my life K-college. You enter her class and for being a teacher which is a service she provides us she is anything but incompetent at helping students with their personal academic needs /rude as anything you can see will be taken as an attack by her on a personal or academic level
One word, RUN! Do whatever you can to avoid taking her! She goes at a pace that is way too fast to comprehend anything. You will spend hours out of class trying to figure out what she taught. Not even worth going to class, just go to tutoring and hope for the best if you take her. If you have her, I'm praying for you!
i probably only went to 4 classes total as attendance was not mandatory and all homework was completing ALEKS assignments by friday which was pretty easy. Exams were a bit harder than homework but overall the class was easy, even though she was not a good teacher
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. You need to run if you see this lady. Her lectures were very boring, so pointless, and did not make any sense. Her tests are extremely difficult and her study guides did not help with the tests. I attended every lecture but still needed to teach myself the math. Homework every week online, 3 total tests, and 1 final.
Parker seems to have good credentials, but is not a good professor. Her lectures are not very helpful, and she rushes to get through them instead of allowing students to comprehend-- I don't find much use in going to class (attendance is optional). She believes bad quiz grades are simply an inconvenience because they take her "longer to grade."
Here is the thing. This class isn't the hardest if you apply yourself but you will be teaching yourself everything. Attendance isn't mandatory and Sonia's teaching style is fast-paced video recordings of her doing the problems. She is difficult to work with and can be pretty passive in her emails/ canvas. However, I do think she wants us to succeed
Sonia Parker is by far the worst professor I have ever had. Do not take her class! Her tests are impossible and even if you get the correct answer but do your work differently from hers she marks it wrong. She is not willing to hear your explanation of how you got an answer. It's her way or the highway.
Professor Parker does not teach the class but rather plays videos of her going through the notes. She takes points off of tests if you do not use the exact method she taught, even if your answer is correct. If you have a question, she will completely shame you. I'm fortunate to be a math genius, but if you struggle with math, DO NOT take this class
By far the worst experience I have ever had with a professor. She will not give even partial credit if the work isn't exactly how she likes it even if the answer is correct. She encourages questions but responds to them rudely like it was an attack on her abilities. You will be teaching yourself everything. Awful.
I had to study everyday for multiple hours and get a tutor to make an A in this course. I cried so much. I believe Sonia tried her best given the 50 minute class, but her (posted) notes can be wrong and that makes the content difficult to learn at times. She was really nice, but I can get why some say she comes off as rude. To pass, study a lot!
Very rude and quizzes/exams do not line up with ALEKS material.
If you dont go to class you most likely will not understand material. Grades are based on tests, homework, and quizzes
Professor Parker was not the best math professor. She got upset when people would ask questions because "she didn't have time to answer them". She also got upset with me when I was missing a test day for a religious observance and claiming that I was an "irresponsible student." If you don't grasp math easily and tend to need extra help, do not take
If you go to class, do the homework, and study you will pass. She is very passive aggressive and doesn't give good feedback. If you ask a question, she will make you feel stupid in front of the whole class. Don't take her if you are sensitive or learn by asking questions
You are going to teach yourself the material to receive a good grade. Whenever I went to class she moves really quickly through the material and I learned nothing. She started making the tests easier that's the only reason I passed. If you don't do well on the exams barely anything else affects your grade.
After doing well in calc in high school, I thought that this class would simply refresh my memory. I was very wrong. Parker is the harshest grader I have ever experienced. If you do something as little as flipping a positive to a negative, she takes off points for the whole question on exams. Not challenging content but check work!
Mrs Parker is definitely hands down the laziest teacher i've ever seen in my life. She pre records her lectures and just plays them to the class and will even leave the room sometimes when the video is playing. She barely teaches anything and if you ask a question she rushes to get through it or sends you to aleks.Don't take this class.
Sonia's class is challenging, but with dedication and tools like unstuckstudy ai, you can succeed. Her teaching style is fast-paced, but the material is manageable if you put in the work.
Laziest teacher ever. She pre-records her lectures and gets questions wrong in the videos and doesn't fix them. Moves way too fast, if you ask a question she either speeds through or is mad at you for not understanding. No partial credit on exams - worst class I have ever taken
My mom always told me that if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. Though, when my degree is on the line, it's important to know that this professor sucks. Dont bother asking for help, she will tell you to resort to the internet. Don't bother studying, none of it will be on the quiz. This class is designed for failure.
Professor Parker is hands down the worst professor I have ever had. I never struggled with math in highschool and after taking her class I cannot seem to learn a single thing. She pre-records her lectures and skips through them and refuses to rewind or even post them to canvas for students to look back at. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!
I took Mrs. Parkers class for MAT 150 of Fall 2024 and let me tell you this, she plays a video of her solving problems every day. She basically hates dumb questions. 3 exams/60% of ur grade so do good! You are required to do ALEKS homework throughout the semester but its literally weighted 20% so you do more work than it's really worth basically.
she is probably the WORST professor i have ever had to take she plays a prerecorded video in class while she sits there and does nothing. all you HW is online you have to pretty much teach yourself the whole course because she does an awful job at doing it. exam heavy if you arent good with test taking good luck passing with a c-
Not a bad person, just the class is mind numbing. Lazily recorded videos with mistakes, endless flow of ALEKS homework, inconcise notes and minimal attention to detail. I always struggled with math and the only reason i'm passing this class is because of the organic chemistry tutor. If you miss a day, you will absolutely pay for it. Do not take.
This was actually the worst way I have ever been taught math. She records herself on a video then plays it up at the class. She hates to pause it to answer questions and her tests are awful. Please find a better professor than this.
I came back just to reiterate my point that she is the worst professor I have ever had. I will always put in the work but this professor shames you for asking for her. It is her way and no way else. Save yourself!
She takes off points for little things and her lectures are just videos of her talking pre recorded that often contain errors. Nice person who wants to help however, a little painful to talk to.
Will not go over the material well. If you do not have prior knowledge of pre-cal or calculus good luck taking her class. She will not wait for you to catch up. You are expected to understand everything off the bat and don't bother asking questions. You can pass, but you will be teaching yourself and just hoping for the best when it comes to tests
If it is a time that you want and its only her, just don't take her. I have never been bad with math but the way she lectures is horrible. I had to teach myself... It took a lot of time and effort that I could have saved if I didnt have her. She adds so many random quizzes during the semester that will mess up your grade. Save your grade don't take
DO NOT TAKE HER!!! She teaches from videos, and often won't stop to answer questions because she needs to get through the entire video. Please learn from my mistake and take another professor. You will have to teach yourself the entire course content, and it's extremely test-heavy. Overall, very difficult class and would not recommend it!
She is by far the worst professor I've ever had. She doesn't thoroughly go through the material to allow her students to understand. Very disorganized. Does not give any partial credit on tests or assignments. If you have developed your own way to solve a problem she will mark it as wrong for not using her method even if your answer is correct.
Just don't do it. Tests are 60% of your grade, so good luck. She is very passive aggressive to all of her students and makes the atmosphere in the room feel dark and heavy.
Worst math teacher I've had in my life. Probably the worst teacher in general. Extremely rude, passive aggressive, and unhelpful. Do NOT take math with her unless it is a subject you are already strong in.
The bulk of your time in this class will be spent trying to decipher Ms. Parker's nonsensical lectures and her announcements that are written in gibberish. You will be your own professor in this class.
Overall, I wouldn't take this class if you're bad with exams. Expect a heavy work load and not to understand what she is teaching, she doesn't answer questions in class. Most of my learning was on ALEKS and she would deduct points because it wasn't the way she taught the class through her videos. She is a lazy teacher and I DO NOT recommend taking!
She should teach high school math. She teaches the class as if you already know everything. She gives zero partial credit. And there's only 3 tests. The exam can makeup a failed test.Homework is weekly, annoying but manageable. She doesn't actually teach anything. She just does the problem and expects you to know how to do it Do not take if bad at math
She is genuinely just the worst. Take this as a warning to save your time and your money. She is beyond terrible and overall unprofessional. She gave me six straight 0's for 100's I had on homework and refused to change them. Studied for her exam for 3 weeks everyday for 3 hours and somehow still got a 70 while my peers got like 30's.
Of all classes I've taken and teachers I've had, this was the absolute worst. She is very rude in a passive-aggressive way. The lectures are basically pointless, as she goes at the speed of light, speaking nonsense. I had many hours taken away from me because I had to teach myself the information on my own time. Save yourself so much by not taking.
She had unrealistic expectations for the class. She expected us to come to the class every day with notes already taken, she proceeded to only go over them in class (not many actual problems are worked out). I only recommend this class to someone who isn't taking over 15 credit hours. You will spend at least 20hours a week working on this class.
Hard and not clear when giving lectures. Exams are graded very hard and are the majority of your grade. She moves on to different topics too fast for you to get a grasp of the content.
There is a lot to say about Sonia Parker. She goes very fast during her lectures where they are prerecorded videos that contain a couple mistakes. There are easier ways to understand what she's teaching but she does it her way, which is the hardest way possible to understand. She said the final wasn't cumulative then changed her mind. DON'T TAKE.
I've never felt so defeated in my entire life. I'm sure she's great if you're confident in the subject. She's kind enough to those that show every day. I came to every class. I begged for extra credit, practice exams, extra help, anything and got bare minimum responses. 75% of my class dropped. Someone should really look into her teaching methods.
She doesn't teach in class, expects you to teach yourself using PowerPoints. When she grades the exams, you can not understand what you got right or wrong.
Would not recommend. She only does powerpoint lectures and doesn't go through half of the slides and speeds through them. Expects you to know all of the content from previous math classes and won't help you on any of the algebra questions because you are supposed to know them already. Hard test grader and the study guides don't help much.
Professor was pretty bad, just plays videos instead of teaching the material, you have to go to class for the first few weeks and then she just stops taking attendance. 3 tests and a final, you have to learn on your own, but precalc is pretty easy.
Only plays videos the whole class and doesn't actually teach in class.
When someone does bad in a class, I think it's on the student. Not here. She SPEEDS over the notes and refuses to ACTUALLY teach the class. She says it's "too much work" when you ask her for help (hence the videos). She DOES NOT TEACH THE PROCESS OF ANYTHING. She rambles about abstract concepts and WILL NEVER teach you the steps.
Doesn't actually teach, only puts on videos and expects you to learn yourself. Doesn't really answer questions if they don't meet her quality. Would not take.
DO NOT TAKE. She does not teach whatsoever. Plays videos and sits at her desk.
Teaches using videos she prerecords. Does not have any notes pages or any resources online to help. Steer clear of this class if she is teaching it.
She just plays videos the whole time of math problems being solved and is not interacting with the students at all. I went to her office hours for help and she told me I was stupid.
The professor does not seem to understand that people have responsibilities outside of her class. She told me to call out of work to get an assignment done since she was changing the due date to sooner. Does not do partial credit on tests. The exact opposite of understanding.
This is the most defeated I have ever felt in a class. I have exhausted all of my resources, spending hours in the stem lab, attending the study groups, and learning on my own. She just plays video lectures during class. There are hours worth of homework assignments that don't even count towards your final grade. Her class is set up for failure.
I am an all A math student. I currently have a 35% in her class. Studied for hoours for the first test to get a 14/100. Offers no extra credit, and her tests are only around 16 questions, and it makes or breaks your grade. That one grade brought my entire average from an 89% to a 29%. I still cant get it up. She also rarely responds to emails
Worst possible math teacher ever, this teacher just plays videos all class while playing on her phone, she gives 0 partial credit on exams and if you dont do the problem her way you get it wrong even if the answers correct. She comes off as sweet and innocent but is the worst possible teacher ive ever had my entire life, DO NOT TAKE HER AT ALL PLS.
Her version of teaching is playing screen recordings of math problems being solved. 80% of your grade is test/exam grades. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. I am an all A math student but had to withdraw from her course.
If you have the opportunity to take any other professor's class, do it. For the majority of the class, expect to watch a video of her poorly explaining the units while she fast forwards it. She doesn't prepare you well for tests, and takes forever to grade. Do not take her class if you don't have to!!
She rarely teaches in class and when she does it is just her working out examples. She makes video lectures before class and plays them for us. For me this wasn't helpful because she wasn't explaining the steps to us, it's almost like she wants you to already know what needs to be done. This is a exam heavy class 3 exams and a cumulative final.
Terrible class. She barely teaches and just plays confusing videos instead of explaining anything. Tests are extremely hard, no partial credit, and one bad exam destroys your grade. She's slow to respond and offers no support. Take literally any other professor.
don't take this class.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!!! she is an awful teacher and over half my class dropped it because she is a horrid grader and does not teach. she will put on a pre-recorded lecture and talk over herself so you can't hear it.
Very difficult professor. While I try to find the bright side on everyone, its hard to find one for this class. Basic slideshows straight from pearson with errors and just tells you to ignore parts of the slide. Very difficult tests. Do not take
RUN. Don't even think of taking her. All the reviews are true
Easily the worst teacher I've ever had, plays low quality videos during class instead of teaching, over complicates every single problem, very rude and condescending, made me hate math. She finds ways to take off points for any reason on an exam. DO NOT TAKE HER please take anyone else or wait till next semester. Astounded she is allowed to teach.
I can't put into words how awful she is at teaching, I had to teach myself everything and struggled severely. I don't know how she is a professor. Every single review about her is accurate. Saying she is horrible at teaching is an understatement, and if you ask for help be prepared to be made feel stupid for asking. -10/10. extremely frustrating
Awful. DO NOT DO IT. She is extremely condescending and will not help you if you ask questions. Does not care to show the steps, even if you ask. As someone who enjoys school and learning, this is by far the worst professor I've ever had. Why become a teacher if you do not enjoy teaching? She changed the structure of her class a few times as well.
All the negative reviews are true. Try to take a different professor for your mental health sake
She was the rudest prof. Hates women. Grades horribly and sucks at helping you even if you ask the right questions.
