I love this professor! Very clear with a touch of humor. Great at answering questions. 5 exams including final (lowest dropped) 4 online quizzes (lowest dropped) and 4 H.W. Print all study guides from canvas and fill in the blanks during lecture. Study those packets and you'll fine. If you don't understand something just ask. She's very polite!

Fabulous professor. Study your study guide everyday for a B or better. 22 lecture packets total (2 per week) Don't get far behind or you probably wont survive. You wont ever use the book. If you don't get something watching online videos help alot. She's a great professor. Take her.

Dr Burd was a fantastic professor. I would definitely take her again. She is always there to help you if you need help. She showed up to all of our classes even when she was sick. Anytime I had a concern I would email her and she would email me back the same day and do everything she could to help me. Tough course but she made it easier.

Tough course, but with effort not too bad. Definitely need to put in time studying. The book is only used for a few reading quizzes. Exams are tough especially if you miss a lecture. If you study you lecture notes and do your study guides you will do ok.

Sonja Burd she is an awesome knowledgeable professor. Take her and she makes BIOL 196 interesting. I would take her, she gives you a better understanding of the material. She is very helpful and I love her accent.

Dr. Burd is an excellent instructor. Took her for both lecture and lab. She will never surprise you on her exams with stuff she didn't go over on her lectures. She's very clear and fair with her grading. If you don't receive B or better in this class, you more than likely did not put enough effort.

Professor Burd gives a clear syllabus and stays on task very well. She gives multiple resources for students to succeed. You do need to do the work to pass the class. This is not an easy A, but it is easy to get an A.

Biology is hard so prepare to study study study. She does go through everything pretty fast so it is important to ask questions and to understand before moving on. Her powerpoint are clear but you cannot miss class without feeling lost. Overall she is a touch grader but also a good teacher. Kind of rude though.

Professor burd was great she made the class as easy as she possibly could. Easily available and her power points to use in class was great. Pointed out exactly what to study. Attendance is not required but if you don't attend it will make things harder.

It was my second time taking Bio 189, and of course I had heard the horrible things about the class, but Sonja made it very easy. Everything in the lecture slides were in the test, so if you studied those you'd be good. She had online lquizzes which were worth about 5-10 points each and had 5 exams not including the final, one of which she dropped.

She's amazing! Print off her powerpoints and fill in the blanks she leaves as she goes through each slide. Then after class complete the corresponding study guide. If you can understand the material on the study guide, youll be fine. This is my 2nd time taking it, failed miserably the 1st time with a diff teacher. Passed her class with a B!

I really enjoyed being in this class. She is a very happy women and really tries to get everyone to understand the material. If you understand the power points that you receive and study them then you will get a decent grade in the class. We never got out early but she started right on time and never went past the end time.

Shes a great professor and very nice sometimes. On the lectures she talks too fast that makes it very confusing.

Sonja is great. This is not an easy class be ready to study. Print out all of the power points and bring them to class, she leaves stuff out of the printed version and fills it in in class. study the power points and the test will be passable. If you need help she is always happy to help during her office hours. I would take her class again.

Dr. Burd was an amazing teacher. The way she explained things was helpful; she made it easy to understand. She also really knows her stuff. She could do the lectures with no notes or PowerPoints and still be understood. Definitely take her if you can.

Awesome teacher. She shows real passion about her job, wish i had more teachers like her. She provides study guides that you can take to class and fill out while she lectures. She goes through all the questions on the study guide in class, so as long as you review your notes you can pass her class.

Great professor . Make sure to be there for every lecture , though its not mandatory her lectures are essential to understanding the book's material. She provides a study guide for every lecture. If you do the study guides, study your lecture notes, and come to class you will do fine.

There are 5 exams and 1 final exam. She drops one of your lowest exams scores, except for the final. She gives study guides which really help a lot! She does use MyLAB & Masterering for HW. She gives online lecture quizzes and she drops your lowest score. She is a very nice professor and I highly recommend her!

Dr. Burd are very good professor that she provides the office time to allow you ask many question you want. You cannot absent because she requires student to write some part of definition in her lecture. There're 5exams and a final exam. She will drop a exam that have lowest score. Each exam includes multiple choice, short answers and vocabulary.

She is very clear on what she is talking about and is able to simplify it. She always asks before moving on if there are any questions or concern about what we just wen over per slide. I do suggest on going to SI though if you ask about what you need to know for a test she'll say study it all so SI breaks the need to know down. 10/10

Very clear and organized. Print lectures, review slides before class, go to lecture because the slides are unfinished, review the slides after class, lastly do the study guides and that should get you an A! She is so clear but you have to put in the time to do the work and study.

She is an awesome Professor. She makes sure before moving on through her slides to ask if the class gets it. Bio 189 is supposed to be a tough class so she gives you a class tutor and study guides so that you have what you need to pass. If you put the time as side to study you should pass. Overall 10/10 teacher clear on her objectives.

Do yourself a favor and take Dr. Burd's class. The subject itself is not easy. Her exams are not easy peasy either. But she is an A+ professor who is a gifted communicator who really knows how to articulate/simplify Bio concepts. Drops lowest score and provides opp for extra credit on exams.

When it comes to biology, the subject itself is hard due to the need of memorization of terms and concepts, but Dr. Burd makes everything easier for you. She has amazing lectures, she uses tables to organize different ideas (like Prokaryotic cells vs. Eukaryotic cells), and she drops the lowest test and quiz scores. Study the PPTs and you'll pass!

She's an amazing teacher. Test are easy as long as you study the study guide and the lecture notes. Attend every class cause she makes charts to make studying easier. I would definitely take her again if she taught 251.

If youre looking for a biology course thats easy, take her. She has 5 modules which consists of a quiz a test and a lab, which they are not hard at all. She posts a video for every chapter and they are HELPFUL. They get you to really understand and actually learn. Take notes on the videos and take the test. No final/midterm.

Took this class online. 5 exams, 5 quizes, 5 workbooks (labs) & a couple assignments. Easier than it sounds. Give yourself enough time for the labs. Take the time to read through the assignments & take notes & youll be fine. She also gives extra credit which is nice. Explanations are very clear. I would take her again.

Took her 8wk summer course. Watch her videos! They're basically lectures and they follow her study guides, theres really no need to buy the book. Make time for labs. Put the work in and you'll do fine. I wish she taught at Charleston so I could take her for 189!

Miss Sonja Burd is the nicest teacher it was my fault I had bad studying habits but she basically tells you whats on the best I really think she's the nicest she's also pretty and really loves science. So if u hate it like me u learn to appreciate it from her. But take the study guides real serious.

She was definitely one of the best teachers I've ever had. Really cares about the material and knows what she is talking about. Tests are challenging, but she gives you all the material you will ever need. Study hard and do the homework, and you'll pass with flying colors. All her notes are online, so missing a few classes won't hurt too much

Powerpoint lectures, videos and study guides were super helpful. She provides different tools depending on your learning style. Her course was super organized and straight forward. You do have to read and study though, do her study guides so it's easier to study for the final. Got an A but thanks to all the ways of learning. Thanks Dr. Burd! :)

She was a great professor. The work load is excessive and move VERY fast. A total of 5 exams & a final. Her lecture slide are ok, but some of the info asked on study guides are not easily referenced. This is why it is truly important to PAY ATTENTION in class. The only reason I wouldn't take her class again is cus I dont have time for her work load

Do yourself a favor and take her! She tests purely from her lectures which she provides slides for. There is a study guide for each lecture which helps IMMENSELY on studying for tests. There is a study guide for the accumulative final as well. The class is going to be a lot either way but at least she gives you everything you need to pass, STUDY IT

professor Burd is a great teacher! she is super nice and helpful. her entire class is all power points and her discussing the material. biology is a tough class but I think as long as you really study the material and pay attention you can make it through. try to ask questions if you don't understand and make sure you don't procrastinate.

If you come to class, pay attention, and study you will do fine. Questions on the test come straight out of lecture material/notes. If you choose not to attend lecture you will miss out on that module's notes and fall behind. A few kids in the class got 100% on some exams. She makes class fun and engaging although it is difficult. Highly recommend

She is the best Bio 189 teacher. Take her class all her exams are based on her PowerPoints. If you study go to SI you will pass, so I totally recommend taking her for Bio 189 she is the best!!!!!!!!

Professor Burd has been one of the best Professors Ive ever take at CSN. The course is extremely lecture heavy but if you record them and listen a second time youll do fine. Reading is not required but it helps on Exams, lowest exam and quiz dropped. She is very helpful OUTSIDE of class. Seems to be tight time during class so answers are generic

Professor Burd really wants you to succeed. Her lectures all correspond with the PowerPoint. Print the PPT and take your notes on it. At the end of each PPT, there are Vocabulary and Lesson Objective slides. Do both at home! She also provides a Study Guide you can print for each lecture. Do this, too! She gives you all the tools to pass. Love her!

I really enjoyed Dr. Burd's BIOL 189 Lecture class. Everything she lectures in the power point will be on the exam, no tricks. Class attendance is mandatory to pass because even though the power points are available before the lectures, the power points are designed to have students fill-in the blanks during lectures which makes attendance crucial!

Prof Burd is very kind, don't be afraid to ask questions. For lecture Quizzes online, tests in person. She had amazing lectures and was very passionate about material. Print out powerpoints to bring to class. You fill out the notes in class. I just studied off the power point for the exams. One of the best bio teachers at CSN. (Cheyenne campus)

She is awesome! Her lectures truly help make sense of the books material. Not only does she try to draw and label things on the board but you can watch additional videos (optional) that help you grasp the concepts. 5 exams + 1 final + lab grade final grade in the class. However much effort you put into it is what you will get out of it.

I took Bio 189 2x before and it really did not click until I took Professor Burd. Her lectures are very easy to follow along with as long as you take notes (even online lectures because of COVID). She provides study guides which really reflect what the test will be like. Highly recommend, can not think of anything bad to say about her/ her class!

You will not get an A just sitting around and not studying for sure, but she provides you with everything you need to get an A. She makes time to meet for questions and is very sweet, understanding and knows what she is teaching so well. Her lectures are amazing and broken down well enough for all to understand. TAKE her class for sure!!!

Took the course online and I'm sure she's just as great in person. You can get the book if you like but its not necessary. Watch and re-watch her slides. Print them out and follow along and you will do great! I would have received an A with a little more study time. I wish she lectured all science classes

Also record her lectures, it will help u review. and go to S.I!! It helps tremendously. I had the book (no access code) didnt use it much but it helped clarify some things

Great professor she definitely knows what shes talking about, shes also very flexible and willing to meet outside of class to make sure you understand everything! Only con about this course is the test do have a written response portion which can bite you in the end if its not exactly what the professor is looking for.

Amazing! she recommends reading the book before lecture but her lectures cover everything on the tests, for lab as well. Quizzes after every lecture, they are open book and you can take at home. Hard part about this class is that its a lot of information we need to know. I would have had a better grade but I missed 4 quizzes DON'T FORGET THOSE!

Professor Burd was an amazing instructor, she is very engaging in her lectures and loves talking about Biology which makes lectures so much better. I was actually in her BIOL191 class, but that wasn't an option here so. Nevertheless, if you take her make sure to attend lectures, do the studyguides for quizzes, and look at the vocab- you'll pass.

Professor Burd is the best! Each individual lecture she posts recordings of her lectures, study guides that you can print out including PP slides that you can print out and bring to class to fill in the rest of the information that is being taught. Attendance is not mandatory but make sure you try to show up bc she writes extra info on the board.

Best professor. The quizzes are open notes, but timed. She gives you a PowerPoint of the lecture, but you just have to fill out the important parts and use that to study for the exam. Exam not hard unless no study. I suggest showing up to class since she does say some important stuff that may be on the exam. I highly recommend taking her for 191.

Great professor does a great job explaining the topics so your able to retain the information. This is a hard class though so don't expect it to be easy you need to study a lot and there is a good amount of quiz's and Exams. No papers and if you take notes and watch her power points you will be fine.

Dr. Burd doesn't make you do homework and explains everything in a way that's easy to understand. She doesn't overexplain things or over complicate things. I highly suggest taking her lecture and lab if you've struggled with biology before.

I took her online bio 189 lecture class and I do not regret it. There are 5 total exams worth 95 points each (the lowest score gets dropped) and a cumulative final worth 100 points. Bio 189 is hard but professor Burd does a great job of presenting the material in a way that's easy for everyone to understand.

Very sweet professor! BUT LOTS LOTS OF INFORMATION! If you have a job prepare to fail, you will have to study hard at home. The exams were hard even if you study, with confusing questions and abcde choice answers. I couldn't keep up! My classmates from lab had other instructors and it seemed way easier.

Professor Burd is a wonderful professor! Her exams are based off her lecture slides. There's a total of 5 exams plus the final exam. It is a lot of material and note taking so you do need to study A LOT, she provides study guides for you and they help a lot if you complete them. She's also very good with feedback if you don't understand something.

She is funny and tries to make the lecture understandable to our every day life. She answers any questions you have. I wish she taught A&P cause I definitely would have taken her. Amazing professor! I was really afraid to take Biology but Dr. Burd had the clearest way of teaching it. If you were five years old, you'd understand what she's saying.I aced two of the first exams. You can tell she's super dedicated and cares about her students. Also if you're taking this as an online course, be prepared to own an external camera to take exams!

i took 191 with wainscott the 1st time and failed. his slides were confusing, messy and hard to understand. he's also not very helpful when u ask. his goto answer is "i can't tell u that" he also didnt want to tell us what to study during lab bc hes not the coordinator. retook 191 with burd and i was able to learn the material so much better.

I took Dr.Burd this spring(2024), and she is an amazing person; she explains things very clearly and in a good manner that everyone would understand. questions are always welcomed, you can literally ask her anything and she would answers it gladly. she is just the finest teacher that i have ever had! I would recommend to take her 100%!

She will have study guides for each lesson, and they will be accurate to what is on the exam. The online section has powerpoints you can fill out for yourself, study guides, and videos to watch. The videos are not hard to understand. She also answers any questions and clarifies things well.

Good lecturer, but doesn't post her presentations (only a template for you to fill in), so you have to go to class if you want them. A bit paced with an exam around every 2.5 weeks: mcq and short answer. Complete her study guides (for very exam and final) and you'll get an A no problem!!

Amazing professor, study guides help but you can't solely depend on them for the exams.Create study guides from the lecture objectives, that helps. If you aren't in class you need to get the notes off someone else. No extra credit and you cannot take pictures in class, voice recordings are okay but no pics or vids. USE ALL RESOURCES.

I just finished her fall semester! she is very sweet and passionate and her exams are pretty easy ngl. take this professor no cap. i only studied like 1-2 hrs a week she even brings little activities for her class to help you understand the concepts more. exams r 40 multiple choice with free response questions. good luck chat

Prof. Burd is GREAT! She's passionate about BIOL 189 and makes the class engaging. She's always happy, helpful, and her group activities really make the material click (just participate!) Exams are fair just study the guides. I never used the book. I only wish the final were optional like other BIOL 189 sections, but she does drop the lowest exam.
