Outstanding teacher. She keeps your attention throughout the class.

She is a lecturing prof. Hard to take oral notes, and very few powerpoints'. She gives great in help preparing student speeches. You WILL spend MANY hours making speech outlines!!! Not a hard prof., just that the subject material is taxing on a student.

Makes you work for the grade. But also helps you articulate your inner communication skills you didn't know you had. Also she teaches you how to have power over others. If you are afraid to speak in front of people, take her because you can conquer your fear. She is also HOT.

She really knows her stuff and is very passionate about what she does. If your intimadated by a strong confidient voice then maybe she's not for you. She does have alot to give and is very encouraging. I loved her motivation! Awesome Professor!!!

Mrs. Hopkins is a very good and passionate teacher. She definitely knows what she is talking about and her lectures are very interesting. Lots of personal examples that everyone can connecting to makes it reallt interesting. I feel well prepared to speak in front of others and can only recommend her. Working hard will pay off later...

Very clear on assignments. Always gave positive feedback on speeches as well as advice on how to improve your next speech. Very energetic about her work. She always made the class interesting, and she will spend a lot of time with you to help you make a good final grade. I highly recommend this teacher!

Professor Hopkins is a great teacher. Yea, her class is tough at times, but in the end you get the grade by the effort you put in. She knows what she is talking about and is great at what she does. Gives awsome feedback on your speech and tries to make the class enjoyable. She is a powerful speaker, and is passionate of what she does.

She was a great teacher but i took her in a community learning setting and she let the other teacher run all over her and completely control the classroom. Other than that, she is patient, interesting and seems like an all around goo person.

Excellent professor! Definitely knows her subject because she has "been there, done that." I almost dropped due to things happening in my personal life, but she encouraged me to stay and I'm glad I did. You will spend a good deal of time on PowerPoint presentations if you want to do well, but it's really not that difficult. The T-Th class is best.

Excellent teacher. She's good at conveying the info in a way that's understandable and is always willing to offer help if you need it. I hated public speaking but now it's not so bad after she gave me tips and pointers on what to do. Take the learning community class though and its probably easier than her other classes.

She's pretty cool. Will work with you or any problems you have as long as you bring them up to her in advance... I always appreciated that.

If you do the work and make a present your speech, you'll get the grade. Her class is all about participation, so go for it! She was really cool about explaining things, just remember to bring your supplies with you.

i took this class in wintermester, i would definitely not suggest doing that. she expects a whole lot and she grades really hard. she gave us so many assignments in 10 days it was crazy.

She's an oddball sometimes, but when it comes down to it, she's incredibly helpful and will bend over backwards to assist her students. She's a great speaker, which helps in class. It's not nearly as boring as some other speech courses I've taken in the past. She gets an "A" from me.

Ms. Hopkins class was so much fun! It's NOT an easy blow off class.. you WILL work for your grade! I took this class as a three week fast track. It was a LOT of work but it's well worth it.She also gives plenty of opportunities for extra credit. Just PARTICIPATE!! and you will be fine.

She is very passionate about teaching you the manner in which you are to speak in front of a crowd and is very helpful, just keep your questions in order to the pertaining subject.

Prof. Hopkins is an amazing teacher and will help u throughout the course. Took online class & had a problem with my speeches that would have given me a failing grade. She worked with me & helped me to revamp my speeches & submited a grade change so I could get a passing grade. Most other professors would have said "your out of luck" BEST teacher

She wasn't always the most punctual, but she was always there. Her class was not hard if you actually attended, which many of my peers did not. The criteria for speeches and other assignments was clear and easy to follow and if you had a question, she would answer it. However, pay attention as she does not like to repeat herself. Recommend? Yes!

I took the Maymester speech class with Prof Hopkins.She is an awesome teacher. She knows her stuff and can get it across to students easily and clearly.Was very punctual and never kept us after class unless absolutely needed. If you follow her guidelines thoroughly, you will make an easy A. One of the best Professors at Northlake.

As an international student, this is the best class I have ever taken so far. She is a great teacher. This class was awesome!!!!!!!!!! I've never had such a smart well rounded teacher. When the class was over nobody and I mean nobody wanted to leave! She educated the class on everything, not just speech. I feel comfortable speaking in front of any audience now! I just hope next semester is as excellent as this semester has been.

Prof. Hopkins-Barnes is a wonderful communications teacher! Not only will you be leaving this class having knowledge of public speaking, you will have a better understanding of your critical speaking skills and top five strengths. Do not be deterred by "feminist" comments. Great teacher who teaches about more than just communication skills!

Professor Hopkins -knows what she is talking about -cares about her students -if you participate you will do fine -made me be interensted more in communication as a major(before hand i didn't consider it) -homework assignments were clear most of the time -work loard is medium, but put in the effort and you will get an A. This teacher was very helpful and informed us on a lot of information beside speech. The way she graded was very compromising. She helped make us understand the concept of speech, but we also can express our feelings. Also, she gives us extra credit so that everyone can go beyond their goals. And she helps with personal life situation too.

Her class will change your life. Don't take it if you want an easy A. You will be challenged, learn life lessons, and discover your strengths. She holds students accountable, yet, is very understanding as long as you communicate and follow-through. She helps to improve your comm. skills while encouraging you to maintain your individual voice.

Ms Hopkins is very passionate about Communication, and she wants her students to feel the same passion. She is a wonderful professor, and I have taken both sections of her Communications Courses. Speech 1311&1315. She is a wonderful instructor, and she is the reason that I changed my minor to Communications. She is the best if students are serious.

This is not an "easy" class but if you follow her advice you learn a lot and you WILL make an "A".

I am not sure where the comments of disorganization come from. She is very organized and clear but students must be competent listeners since there is a lot of information. If you ever need additional assistance, she is very approachable. I really like that she challenges you in the class, this is college not high school.

She's a great teacher, in essence a real teacher. She was very helpful in clarifying the aspects that create a great speaker without the communication jargon. By far the most knowledgeable teacher I have had. She is the most hard working teacher Ive seen and actually cares about her students. She takes the time to sit with them individually until they understand something. The work is a little challaging but that's because she believes you can do it. A+ Professor, definitely appreciate her.

Clearly takes her profession seriously. Very stimulating class. Worked to make the classroom environment as comfortable as possible.

She as an amazing speaker and has great energy. She is incredibly encouraging and caring. After taking her class I feel like I can give a speech at anytime or anyplace. I took her public speaking fast track course and in just 4 weeks Professor Hopkins transformed me from a bumbling baffoon into a confident speaker. She taught me many skills that will surely improve the value of my education, employment, and personal relationships. I had no idea how important this class would be to my program of study.

Ms. Hopkins class was a wonderful experience. It will also help improve your grades in other classes that involve writing and oral presentation. If you can focus beyond how gorgeous she is, you will surely learn a lot.

After reading through her comments I was suprised. It seems she really has tried to change her teaching style based on reviews. Clear outlines for each speech, gives a whole page back and front of feedback good and bad if necessary, and lots of extra credit I finished with half a grade worth of points over an A. Very helpful in person!

Professor Hopkins is the most inspirational professor I've ever met. She genuinely cares about her students. This class is very easy is you're willing to follow the outlines, which she gives for every single assignment. If you can't make an easy A in her class you simply don't know how to follow directions.

I'm extremely shy, but Ms. Hopkins made giving speeches so easy. We gave about 4 speeches, had 3 exams, and had extra credit opportunities. She makes the class clap before and after someone speaks; and she makes the students give the speaker positive feedback. You won't regret taking her!

I was really scared to sign up for this course but I am so glad I did. She is very professional and her views on different topics are so well spoken which inspires to me be better. I strongly suggest you volunteer to speak on the first day that she assigns a speech because it will help your score. There are 4 speeches you need to deliver!

While she isn't always 100% clear on her grading criteria, Hopkins gives tons of opportunities for extra credit. To get an A, you need 900 points in her class. She gives enough opportunities to make up to 1300 points. If you don't make an A in her class, you're basically lazy and don't do any of the work. If you DO put in effort, you'll get your A.

Expect to be presenting about 4 speeches. She has tons of extra credit opportunities. Her exams and homework were the toughest for me because she uses a different program. The exams and hw are based on the textbook and never goes over it.

Great teacher with a clear passion for speech. She is very direct, straightforward, and blunt, however, her lessons will help me much in the future. She does her best to relate to her students.

Since the class is 4 weeks, I was expecting the class to be lecture heavy, however she offers Virtual Office Hours where she answers all your questions and learn more about the assignments which helped me to succeed. Her feedback is very critical and in depth which allows you to correct your future speeches. Would definitely take again.
