She is not easy but helps to prep you for the rest of your time in college. Pretty and uptight!

This is a professor who has spent way too much time studying English. She really knows the material and how to teach it. She has a few unusual quirks, but I really enjoyed her classs. I would take her again if I had the chance.

Dr. Wozniak is a little nuts, but she knows her stuff and will happily answer your questions if you can get up the courage to ask her.

I knew how this teacher was before taking the class and heard she was hard. I wanted to find out myself and I was very pleased with her teaching. I learned more than I anticipated.

She is easily the hardest-working member of the English department (detailed criticism). Calling her cold-blooded is not far from the truth, but that she's aware of hurting students' feelings is not certain. Professors are people, and I don't recommend you take her grading personally; though it often reads like an insult in letter form.

I tend to think the comments here reveal more about the students than they do about Dr. Wozniak. She has quirks, bad days, and a daughter. None of this is unacceptable. If you didn't get the writing skills you were supposed to learn in High School you need to go to Vista's writing lab or take a remedial course. Don't take it out on your teacher.

I have read the comments. I am in her class for the first time. I believe she is very k knowlageble and I look forward to her class when I must attend it. I hope to be able to write a great review of her once the semester is done. So far, I think she is passionate and, therefore, am intrigued by her knowledge and enthusiasm about the subject.

Dr. Wozniak is by far the best teacher I have ever had. She is hard but fair, and I've learned more about the english language than I could have without her. Now in all honesty if you are young and immature she is not the teacher for you, she is a true college level professor.

Dr. Wozniak is one of the best teachers in the Peralta district. While many community college teachers consider us too stupid or underpriviliged to be held to a high standard, Wozniak will expect you to think and perform at a college level. If you're a slacker, find another class. Excuses won't get you anywhere with her.

Coming from Santa Barbara City College, which is considered the best CC in CA, I couldn't find a decent instructor until I enrolled in Sonya's Eng1A class. Anyone who complains about her obviously didn't do well in her class and will be eaten alive at any college.

I'm just amazed at how poorly people write their reviews of this professor. There is also a minor correlation between negative ratings and the use of laughable grammar.

I can easily say that Dr. Wozniak was the best English teacher I've ever had. Yes she was demanding, had high expectations for students, but I really learned a lot in her class. She definitely has her little idiosyncrasies, but her passion for the subject overrides her touchy mood. I would definitely take her class again.

She's a tough one. I learned a lot, but struggled too. Not typical for me in Eng. I felt she graded me low based on whether she agreed or disagreed w/ my arguments. In the end I got a good grade - though still don't understand why. I fancy to think it's because she recognized that even though she disagreed, they were good arguments nonetheless.

Tough but quite fair. Very thought-provoking and always up for interesting discussions. Really knows her material.

Dr. Wozniak is a true professional. She is of the expected caliber of a 4-year institution. She gave me my first "B" grade on an English assignment, and I am thankful. She pushed me to embrace the challenge of literature and poetic analysis at a higher level than I imaged I would achieve. Warning: it is difficult to get an A-but not impossible.

One of the toughest and most challenging courses I have ever taken...and I came out a better writer and critical thinker. Doctor Wozniak is demanding, but she knows what she is doing and can help you draw your writing abilities out of you. Listen, take notes, ask questions...she is quirky there is not doubt, but this woman is a PROFESSOR indeed!

I took Dr. Wozniak's creative writing class over the summer, and found it to be one of the most effective writing classes I've had. Her methods are inventive and helpful; she facilitates engaging discussions,and she clearly enjoys her work. She doesn't tolerate laziness, lateness or chewing - of anything. I loved her class.

Friendly. Approachable. Speaks English with no Accent. Intelligent and knows her subject. My essay-writing is better due to the class. And I've always hated English.

I was used to getting easy A's in English until I took Wozniak's class. For the first time in a long while I actually had to try my hardest to get through the class, and I ended up learning more from her than from any other cc English professor. She is VERY tough, but if you are willing to put in the effort you will be rewarded. The A is possible.

Very stubborn, and treats students like you are still in high school. Not allowed to eat/chew ANYTHING in her class due to her high sensitive hearing. In order for you to succeed in this class you must do what is is asking for use the poetic tools and do this her way. Then you'll pass! attendance will extremely boost your grade up in the end!

Good professor at heart, but RUDE in person. Very arrogant and doesn't care how her students are doing in class. Hard to approach her sometimes since she seems to be caring too much about her valuable time. No time left for students to ask questions. If you had a choice, DON'T TAKE HER CLASS.

I'm giving her the ratings that I think represent the material in the class. She's actually pretty good at teaching.Unfortunately she seemed like she hated people in general. She didn't give her students the time of day and was just extremely strict without any good justification. Wouldn't recommend her to anyone unless they have to take the class.

I'm still counting the blessings I've received from having Dr. Wozniak as a professor. Her poetic tools helped me turn an essential corner in my writing. When she met with me to discuss an essay, she was direct about what I needed to do, but encouraging. She is strict about classroom behavior, but treats you like an adult if you act like one.

she explains concepts really well. She is more than happy to talk to you durring her office hours and is extremely helpful when doing so. she made the class interesting and i highly recommend it.

Some Ph.D.'s shouldn't teach. They have one agenda, their OWN!! Dr.Wozniak has problems students shouldn't have to be subjected to. Yes, she's brilliant but snubs you if you're not. That's not what I expect when I'm trying to learn. I'm taking the class to learn. Perhaps she should apply to teach at an institution that suits her better.

Overall, I got a lot out of this class. If you want to take an English class to get a requirement out of the way, maybe not for you. However, I got more out of this English class than any other writing class I've had in years. Although she was pretty cold in the beginning of the semester, she warmed up to those that were left in the last month.

This class is definitely for students who are willing to work hard. I was very hesistant to take class after reading so many neg comments but I have learned more from her class than most courses I have taken. She is tough but allows for revisions & resubmissions. You will learn valuable writing & researching skills. Gd grades are well earned!

Can be a harsh grader, and often returns assignments kind of late. She's pretty clear on what she wants from you, though, and the assignments can be redone for credit. Not a terrible teacher, but not fantastic.

This teacher is very irritable, but she gets better as the semester goes on. She's clear about her expectations.

The class is difficult, yet you learn a lot if you are willing to come in with an open mind. It is hard to understand what she wants at first, but there are rewrites which help boast your grade. I would not recommend this class for an easy A, but if you take it and struggle with it, you will definitely improve as a writer!

You need to have good writing skills to take this course online. A lot of self study and self motivation is required. You get as much out of it as you put into it. The only thing I didnt like was the reading content of the course. The books were more political essays and were slightly boring in my opinion.

She does help students. She has special days in which she talks to students one to one and tell them what they need to do in order to improve their grade

Really nice! Really strict about not letting you eat in class but you shouldn't be eating in class anyway... She sets hard boundaries and if you're not interested in the class she can tell and pushes you a bit harder. Good for a passionate English major, maybe not for people just taking the class for credit.

She's strict and quirky, but she's very nice. She is great at connecting the literature we read to themes that impact all of us. Her literature choices for the course are relatable. Her class inspired me to consider double-majoring. Make sure to always use quotes that contain figurative language/literary devices in your evidence.

I had Sonya as my professor for 2 semesters already and she has been very helpful with everything. She grades fairly. With coronavirus going on and other personal issues, she has been very understanding and human towards her students. Her advice for my papers were straight to the point and helped me get an A in the class by the end of the semester.

Great teacher. Willing to talk before or after class, or through email. Great course if you want to become a better writer. There are four essays, each worth 200 points. A midterm and a final each worth 50 points. Class discussions, writing workshops, and a few reading quizzes worth a total of 100 points. There are 30 points of extra credit.

The way she had her class organized on Canvas was confusing. I found it frustrating and time-consuming to get all the information I needed for the assignments. I also found her to be a tough grader. That said, she was very responsive via email and gave good feedback. I did become a better writer through this class.

This instructor was really open about her own struggles with ADHD, which was important to me because as a person with ADHD I really struggle. She is a tough grader but allowed me to turn work in late and even based my grade on the best essay I submitted despite the fact that I had missed turning in one essay and a few assignments.

She was great and I liked reading books from all kinds of perspectives!
