He seems easy at first but by the end of the quarter when the grade comes out you'll be surprise what your grade is. Mine came out lower than I expected even though I did the extra credit. If you're looking for an easy A it's not possible but can be a B.
took the class during the summer and got an A. he gives you 5 essay questions to prepare for each exam. out of the 5 he selects 3 that you can choose from on the exam. that means you end up writing one essay per exam
Dr.Choi's ICS 20 is a guaranteed "A" course. if you make some friends in that course and take full of notes.you'll make plenty of senses by the time you take exam.one tip!when he gets so high during the lecture, you gotta listen very carefully(e
ICS 20 is a guaranteed "A" course.
Tests are SUPER easy and there is almost no HW. Readings are short and interesting. One essay and one 5 min. presentation in front of the class. He's a nice guy and makes lectures interesting. Shows interesting movies in class.
Very nice guy, his lecture is pretty interesting. No HW, reading is short and easy. Tests are base on lecture and book. Highly recommend
his lecture is so bored, but be sure you go to the class before exams and final. tests and presentation are easy to get B, if you want to get an A, be sure you do the extra credit. (he won't acutally read the paper)
very easy. always lets students out 1 to 1 and half hours before the class ends.
Go to class (cuz he takes roll) and take notes. Easy A. Don't even have to read the book cuz he goes over everything in class. Nice, funny guy.
Not a guaranteed A unless you do all the extra credit. Fairly easy class, and the teacher is a easy-grader.
Thinks he's funny, but he's annoyingly not. Easy class... not sure why he gave me a B and he won't respond to e-mails. *Grumble*.
Pretty fair professor! Lets students out 1 hr. early every time, so that's awesome! He's also funny and his exams are OFF HIS LECTURES!!! So, just study those and you'll do great. MUST TAKE!
Over all it's a boring class. He tries to make it interesting w/ his off-the-wall humor. Hard to understand at times but he repeats things 100 times to make sure you hear it. If you're looking for an A and want to do average work this is a good class.
He is interesting guy, but always talk something that do not relate to the book. When exam comes, you need to read book by yrself. I have presentation every week, but if you think this is hard, then you better go back to high school. One of his goals is to make every student to become good communicator. Okay teacher, but not hard to get A
easiest class ever. If u want to get an A, just go to class. As boring as it is, force yourself. People in my class got B's soley based on attendance. FUN, easy, kinda boring. Easy A.
He is a funny guy! I laughed out loud in every class. Very casual with work, just be sure you do it and you'll get a good grade for sure!
This class was so horrible, but it was extremely easy... He'll give you one multiple choice exam and then the rest of the exams are really easy essay questions. He makes a lot of biased comments like "george bush sucks, if i were president...." He's always late and pretty unorganized, but it's an easy A.
he is very fun. make class very interesting. we had 1mc exam and 2 essays. the m.c was hard but he gave a extra credit work. anyway, take him! easy to get an A
His class is interesting and I do learn many things from him. He's funny, sometimes entertaining, but a good teacher.
funny guy...i like the course bcuz i am interested in communications. but it's hard to do well on the essay tests...i did extra credit paper but still got a B..my first B in de anza...
A funny teacher. If not cheating in exam, you should read the textbook then you can get nice grades at midterm and final( btw, his mid and final aren't hard) So I assume you need to read the textbook. So the class is not esay enough to get A grades because you need to spend some time reading the textbook or paying attention in class. @_@
He is funny.I took this class because it's an EASY A.Just study a bit for the exams and you'll do fine.He makes you laugh.Highly recommended for GE.
never experienced such an irresponsible teacher. teaching and misleading students with his own bias and brag. it was a really bad experience.
The textbook is entirely unnecessary. Very funny, nice guy, makes lectures interesting. I fit my simple notes on the back of the syllabus. Midterms and final are T/F(!) with one or two essay Q's - UNBELIEVABLY EASY. Simple group presentation required. Final was a 9-page take-home email essay with a 5-day deadline (awesome). Highly recommended.
a lot to read
it's not easy class, but he can make it easy and funny. if u listen carefully what he's saying, that's it. u don't have to study for mid. however, if u do not attend well, it's gonna be the hardest class cuz there are nothing in the text book for any quizes. u can't study alone only w/the book. so, just follow what he wants u.
Professor Choi is the best teacher. I respect him alot! easy and fun
Don't attend this class unless you have cheating paper or related. He doesn't grade paper clearly, and you won't know what you got wrong for final essay. Slow and short response by e-mail will makes you pissed. Book is totally unnecessary since he grades essay papers randomly. I thought he's cool, but he's really unfair professor.
Do Not Take This Class. Don't waste your time on this!
very unclear when giving out presentation topics. topics are clear to him but unclear to everyone else. T/F exams are random, and essays were somewhat difficult to understand what the topic was. has max 30 points extra credit which you SHOULD do. 2 presentations, 2 midterms w/ essay, and 1 final w/ 2 essays. attend class for good exam information!!
I took ICS7 this quarter, and he is pretty good. The class was interesting and the instructor is funny. Take this class.
This professor is great. You can learn a lot from his class and kinda easy to get an A.
nice teacher!
Nice professor
He is an awesome teacher. His classes are so fun and interesring. Also he is very helpful. Take him as your next professor!
He is a very nice and helpful teacher. He makes the lecture interesting. English is my second language but I can still understand very well because he tried to use the easy word make it clear. You may need a text book becaue you will get couple quizes(open book). Follow his setp then you will get a good grade. Take his class!
He gives lectures off power point very helpful. if you want to pass his class make sure you write down all the notes off the power point. he is a really easy teacher you just need to pay attention and be really tentative on what he wants and you will receive a good grade.
It is a very interesting class and you will learn a lot of communication culture between different countries, nations, strogly recommendable.
His class is very interesting and he is also very nice.
Great professor! :)
Great Professor! His lectures always made me laughed really hard! Very entertaining students.
nice teacher!! and very interesting class!!
very good teacher and very helpful to understand intercultureal communication.
He is passionate teacher. And i also had little fun while i was listening his lecture. and his grading is not too hard. just follow his lecture and his study guide before test or quiz.
lecture is ok. tests are easy if you attend the class the study the notes.
Very Easy. Very interesting class and learn a lot. Nice person over all.
Lecture is very helpful and interesting. tests are easy if you attend every class and pay attention. He's relaxed and humorous.
The textbook is only required in that you use it to prepare for the midterm essay questions. Essay questions are given a few days to a week in advance so you can prepare for it. You don't have to attend class all the time, but there are mini group presentations throughout the quarter. He's a very nice professor. Material can be interesting.
He is a very nice teacher, and I really happy that I got his class. He always tell different customs and funny stories. There are two mid and one final. He would give guideline about exam, very easy.
He is a easy, funny, lovely teacher ! The class is easy but you have to buy and read the text book in case to write three essays for the exams.
A very useful class that will help you get through life. He teaches with a lot of stories that are very interesting.
ICS7 have 3 tests in total. two are midterm include 15 to 20 multiple choice questions and 1 essay (he will give the essay topics one week before the test.) Textbook can dl.
He is a funny teacher! I laughed out loud in every class. he use a lot of current issues for teaching.
He is a easy going teacher, have extra credit before midterm. Overall easy class. Heavy usage on text tho
hot and good useful professor in the de anza college. nice and well-working ! esay A! strongly suggest!
very funny and useful class ... enjoyed it very much
he is the best teacher ever!!! his teaching style is perfectly interesting. i like this class so much.
Fun class, EASY A! I am actually taking his ICS7 this quarter. All the scores I got are As. Professor Choi is very generous in sharing his enormous knowledge and giving out all the As.I enjoyed his lecture a lot n he really makes me willing to think through all the questions why communication is so important to us.Btw,he really is a cute teacher.^^
Awesome Professor. He knows his stuff. Good sense of humor. He is totally clear and keeps the class very interesting and that's why it's an easy "A". Attendance is a must! I hesitated taking this class but really happy I got him because I learned more than I thought I already knew. Take him! Highly recommended
he's easy going and approachable & funny sometimes. class is can be boring sometimes. all tests/quizzes are online so u dont have to come to class on exam day. overall an easy and interesting class and i did learn some new stuff about other cultures.
Very funny, friendly, and passionate professor. The class is very easy as long as you show up and pay attention. All of the quizzes/exams are online which makes them super easy (open book!). He always had personal stories and experiences to share, which made the class fun and interesting, though the lecture could get a bit boring at times.
He is a great teacher. All the tests and final exam are online. He will let you out early. On test and final day, you don't need to go to class. He does curve grade. Easy class
He's really nice and funny. Explain a lot and really helpful. Don't missed too much class. He will fail you. He lets you out pretty early. On test days he lets you off and take test online.
Dr Choi is an amazing teacher. He is very helpful and patient. He gives extra credit opportunity. I took ICS 7 last quarter and it was an easy class. All quizzes are online and multiple choice. There is a group work. Also, you have to write 2 essays. Easy to get A.
Dr Soo Choi is an amazing teacher. I took ICS 20 with him this summer, and I learned a lot from him. Although I am not Asian, I decided to take this class not only for GPA, also because I wanted to learn about the history of Asian Americans in the U.S. It was very helpful. I really recommend him for everyone who want to learn about Asian Americans.
He is nice teacher. weekly easy quizzes, 2mid and final. all online, open text. but you need to read some pages of textbook since mids and final are from there. Lecture is chilling; watch some videos and slide. he offers big extra credit essay, so if youre not doing good on exam, go for it and make those up. youll be fine
He is a nice knowledgeable prof; gives a lot of interesting stories that reflects to the class topic; tests sometimes are tricky, but not extremely hard. He lets students go earlier than they are supposed to, and that is great. Also extra credit opportunity is available (not easy tho).
Weekly online quizzes. Two online exams. One group presentation. Final exam is online. Great professor. I enjoyed his lectures. He lets you out early on most days. Do your part and you'll be fine.
Hands down one of the best professors I have ever had. I never was happier to get up early in the morning to listen to his lectures, which are extremeley informative, interesting, and hilarious! Highly recommended class!
Prof Choi's humor is adorable, his lectures are informative and quite eye opening, and he's not too heavy on hw. Read the textbook and listen to lectures to pass the quizexams! He mainly wants you to be more educated on the subject of Asian Americansrace in general (relative to this class), bc a deeper understanding really chances ur perspective.
As a non-asian taking this class, i found it very informative and engaging. It helped me to learn a great deal that I wouldn't have know about otherwise. I found Professor Choi to be very direct and clear, his lectures were engaging and the tests were easy if you paid attention in class.
He is one of the best teachers I have ever had! At first, I was thinking about dropping this class because I thought I would have to do a lot of readings, homework, ect., but I decided to stay the first week of class and it was the best decision I have ever made. Take him if you can! Great professor and knows his subject very well.
If you want an easy a, this is the class to take. However, he's an awful professor. Got out of class an hour early every time, he barley lectured at all, and he has student presentation every single day. I feel like I didn't learn anything. All the tests are online, and same with quizzes.
I had high expectations for this class, but I didn't learn anything. I was beyond disappointed. It's a pretty easy A, but if you're passionate about the topic, consider taking someone else.
Although its a very boring lectured class its online quizzing. Open book as well. As long as you can make it through the lectures and read your book or look at his powerpoints your good for the quizzes and tests. two midterms one final. one easy group presentation. two extra credit opportunities!!
although the class met only once a week, he taught me so much in so little time. even though he was a modest speaker, he opened my mind to racial issues certain minority groups are facing today. the best part about this class was that he was open minded and was willing to listen to any argument and debate them fairly.
This class is half in person and half hybrid. His powerpoint presentations aren't good, so you actually have to listen to him closely and take notes as he is talking. If you pay close attention to what he is talking about, you are able to pass the class.
Easy A, that's for sure. However, you will not learn much. In fact, I began fact-checking a few of the statements he would make in class when more and more of them sounded questionable, and I found many to be false. For quizzes, be sure to answer according to the lecture, because he contradicts the assigned text often.
This was the first Asian American history class I have ever taken, and it really opened my eyes to a more diverse story of America's history. Prof Choi delves into immigration stories of Asians and their contributions to American society. Very animated lecturer with tons of stories to tell. He also gives ample extra credit opportunities.
He is such a great professor. Truly gets you thinking during course lectures. Paying attention during the lectures is important if you want to do well. The major grades- two midterms and one final cumulative exam.
Some of the worst failings an instructor can exhibit include being unpredictable, imprecise, and disorganized. Unfortunately, Prof. Soo is all of these. His lectures are bordering on incoherent, his tests contradict lectures and sources and cover material that was is not discussed, and his use of language generates significant confusion. Avoid.
I took ICS4 as an online class and I loved it! Tbh, his lectures can be slow but I would speed them up to 1.5x. I thoroughly enjoyed the content of the class and learning so many new things, and he has a pretty unbiased stance in the class which is nice! He also offered a lot of XC so I ended up finishing the class with 108%. Highly recommend!
Weekly Quizzes (100 points)/ 80% Final (100 points) / 20% Two Extra Credit Quizzes 10%. Quizzes are easy, no time limit and almost always True/False. The "hardest" part of this course is the wording of the questions at times. No textbook. Pretty simple stuff.
The assignments are doable and easy. Quizzes are every week with no time limits. However both lecture and quizzes are confusing to comprehend and you only have one attempt which is mostly true or false. Wish it was a bit more easier to understand the lecture and the questions on quizzes.
Would not take again. Grading is based on repeating back to him his subjective understanding of the material.
Dr. Soo Choi provides brilliant, highly-academic lectures that weave together a panoply of historical sources. If you want a class that won't challenge you, beware. This isn't memorize and get out. If you have interest in grad school, take this professor as you'll experience how much effort it takes to brain grow and become an educational leader.
He is amazing!!! The key to success in his class is MAKING A CONNECTION with your classmate. His quizzes aren't accessible, but you will pass with a good grade if you have teamwork. Professor is one of the nicest and most humble person I've met.
