Not sure about this one..
She has a very heavy Asian acent. I couldn't understand a word she was saying to me 78% of the time. Her test are really hard. But she gives extra credit if you come to class and do the in class activity. The homework for the class is online so it makes it easy. THe bad part is, is that her fianl is 40% of your grade.
Had for both Econ 200 and QMM 240. seemed like no one could understand what she was saying. class avg was 70 and lower in QMM. she curves grades if they are below 74. so in the end i got 3.5 in Econ and failed QMM about about 2/3 class failed hwrk online and will take you a while to do and even longer for QMM. I would advise not taking her for QMM.
This class is very easy. It's all math, and she offers SI classes for help. We do a problem in class, then we do an in-class activity which is the same problem with different numbers, and the same problem is on the exam with different numbers. SO EASY! The only difficulty I've had is remembering all the equations, but I barely study
Worst prof I've had at Oakland. Has a horrible accent. Tests are horrible hard. Lazy and fails to help or answer clearly
Absolutely horrible. Broken English. Not helpful. Unsuccessful at answering questions or helping. Unclear. Good luck.
Not very helpful or clear to understand. Book use and other sources is your ONLY chance of passing. Good luck
Very nice lady. Hard kt understand. Very high expectations outside of the classroom. If you love ECN as much as her and have A LOT of time outside of class, you should be fine.
Extremely difficult to understand. Does not lecture about material that will end up on the test. Does not give you any sort of review what so ever for the tests. Lots of homework which doesn't reflect what's on the exams. Uses online automatically graded writing website. Really wish I didn't take this class with her.
Do not take her class, Talked more about her life in South Korea than anything about economics. Test we ridiculous, they didn't cover anything that she taught(if she had taught it). All self taught out of the book or on online assignments and homework, or papers. She did offer extra credit, but if you have the option get out now !
I had her for ECON, and the class itself was very demanding. She was very reasonable with student assistance, the work load needed to understand the material, and funny stories along the way.
The material for this course is very hard. She does her best to explain it, and does so very well. The book is only used for hw. Attendance is mandatory. Exams are fair and only consist of ICA's and her powerpoints. If you follow along in lecture and study your notes, an A is very possible.
Soo was one of the worst professors that I have, regretfully, taken at Oakland University. She is extremely hard to understand with her accent and she acts very defensive when students ask a question. The class was a pain and she sucks, don't take her class!
Bad decision. I learned more about south korea than i did about economics. And the the times she did lecture, I couldn't understand her. There were way too many assignments than there needed to be for a gen ed requirement class. I barely passed the class by reading the text book on my own.
Prof Sieber is sweet and funny! She won't tolerate crap, but she provides plenty of fluff assignments and EC to boost grades! Records short summary lectures for students to watch-great for studying. Gets somewhat distracted during class but really tries to make it interesting. Has an accent but makes sure to speak loudly and clearly.
LOVE her online lecture videos! She's also really funny if you listen to her. She is really concerned that all of her students understand the topic. Lots of easy for-credit work to boost your grade. Generously curves.
She is the absolute best professor. So helpful, has online lectures, gives extra credit and genuinely cares about her students. I highly suggest staying for, and pay attention to, each lecture. If you do that, you will easily pass this class. She explains things very well to the point where you don't need to "hardcore" study. Take her!
Worst teacher I've had at ou. Her accent was not that bad but she was the rudest teacher I've come across constantly telling the class how dumb we were. When someone asked a question she said they should have paid attention in am earlier class and moved on. Altogether did not care whether we failed or passed.
This class was a complete nightmare. 3 huge time consuming projects in 3 weeks had me at my wits end. Exams are difficult as well. This professor is rude, hard to understand, and she would talk down to the class like we were dumb all the time if someone asked a question. I did very well in QMM 240, but only got a 2.8 in this class. Avoid!
Funny if u listen. Accent isnt nearly as bad as the reviews say. Wants students to succeed. Tests are fair. Lots of fluff assignments to boost grades. In class activities are helpful&a good way to make friends. She has lots of real world experience. Lecture recap vids are great.Like her so much I'm driving from main campus to Macomb to take ECN 303
Great prof! One of the best for ACC. Attend class, take notes, and study ICA's bc the problems sections on her exams are very similar. Know general concepts for exam multiple choice! Don't hesitate to ask questions.
She is insulting and rude to the entire class. doesn't really teach the material, just talks about it and gives ridiculously hard exams. The projects are out of this world painful. If you still can, drop this class. Sieber is foreign and hard to understand. she enjoys watching people fail more than succeed. Absolute torture. Worst professor at OU.
Quiz almost every week based on 1 of the assigned homework questions. 2 exams and non cumulative final. The multiple choice section of the exam is based on powerpointsreading the book. the problem section uses questions very similar to homework and ica. Go to class, do the icahomework and you'll be fine. extra credit offered
3 Exams, no notes Copy one question off HW for quiz grade Easy in class assignments, every class SI section (VERY HELPFUL) Lectures take full period I have had her before and I adore her! I planned my whole schedule around this class so I could have her again. She has a minor accent, but its easy to adapt. She wants all to succeed in her class.
Absolutely loved this professor, she is inspiring and motivational. Although she has a heavy accent, it was not difficult for me to understand. The class comes with a lot of work, but it pays off--if you know the material, the tests are very easy and straightforward. Oakland U needs more professors like Soo Sieber.
She's not an easy professor, but unlike the others in the dept, she offers extra credit and in-class assignments for grade-boosting. Put in the effort (a lot of it), and even if the material is hard for you (like many people), you can end up with a passing grade. It's much better with her than the same class with Murphy, Roumani, etc.
I took this class during the summer, so it was accelerated. I thought she was sometimes difficult to understand, but by doing the work, trying, and paying attention I actually did well. Just put in a little effort, show up and you will do fine. Way better than some other teachers at Oakland
I read every chapter. Went to every class. Did every assignment, with the help of a tutor. Spent 20 plus hours a week preparing for her CLASS, twice as much for a test. I still failed. Take ANY other professor. I will give her credit, she knows a lot about econ so good for talking to- just not a good teacher.
She is a good professor, however her class is hard just because at times it is hard to understand exactly what she is saying and she does give a lot of homework which will take up a lot of your time. Her exams are a challenge but if you make sure to do the ICA's it will be a little easier. She wants to see you succeed and cares.
worst teacher I have ever had in my entire life, do not take her no matter what the circumstance is.
Her classes are long lectures and it takes times to understand her accent. She doesn't assign much homework, but expects you to go through and read the chapters on your own.
Stats alone is hard. She gives you many chances for extra credit so take advantage. She may tell you to email her for Connect Homework help if you're having trouble ( do it, she will help, it will improve your grade). Go to class for the ICA's (easy pts). Project instructions bit unclear, follow samples, they helped me a TON. Pay attention in class
Soo is the best QMM prof at OU. If you attend class, understand the ICA's, and complete the 2 Projects you will have no problem passing the course. Exams are multiple choice and problems identical to ICA's, just different numbers. Group project can be difficult if you wait till the last minute, follow the examples and you shouldn't have a problem.
She is a very nice woman. Her teaching style did not fit me. It was half online and half in the class. All lectures were online and were sorta confusing. Then in class you just did application problems which is 8% of your grade. If you can learn on your own i would recommend her, but if you need instruction i would not.
Knowledgeable and difficult, and can be rude if you can't follow her powerpoints. In class assignments almost every class. This is not an easy course at all, but she didn't make it any easier. Thick accent as well. You have to definitely work for this grade, study hard for her exam. Overall, I would not recommend her
This is a hard class regardless of the prof. Soo isn't perfect but she seems to be the best econ303 prof choice. Attending lectures is a must, and there are activities every class due too. Homework quizzes once a week. Exams are hard but not impossible. Her accent is not THAT bad. My biggest complaint is that she can be rude when you ask questions.
The lectures cover the same things as the online videos she assigns for you to watch before class which made class hard to go to. This was my second time taking this class though and because of this professor my grade went from a 1.0 to a 3.0
She doesn't teach, she just tells you what she knows. She sucks do not take her class you would be better off taking it in the summer with a different professor. Save your GPA and don't take her class.
Do not take this class if you are not passionate about the subject. Expect to spend 10 hours every week on this class alone. Around 5-6 assignments due every class and her exams are incredibly difficult. She overwhelms you with information and tasks. I highly do not recommend.
I have a 3.8 GPA, so I am not a stranger to hard work, but this professor is ridiculous. One individual project (20 pages), one group project (40 pages). The only Stats prof. that assigns this project. Nice lady, but ask questions and she will get and attitude and look at you like you are an idiot. Avoid avoid avoid!!
One of the hardest classes ive taken at OU & it was just because of her. Barely understood her. Rude & inconsiderate. I took a valium one day to get an MRI and when I told her I cant come to class bc I was still loopy & not allowed to drive, she said too bad & gave me a 0 for the ICA & hw quiz. If you skip a class ur grade will go down.
Don't listen to these guys. She goes over all the material in class, on the board. She just wants you to read the material before class, like every professor. I had 0 difficulty in this course. The group projects were only hard because my group didn't do anything. She is incredible at math, took her for econ303 and qmm241, two A's. Get good, OU.
Very good teacher, but exams are pretty difficult. 2 projects, one individual and one group. Do all of the extra credit, you'll need it. Take her if you're majoring in Stats or Econ. If not, do yourself a favor and take a different professor.
I do no know why her ratings were this bad. She makes you work for your grade. But if you show up and follow along with lecture and do the homework you will be fine. She wants her students to put in effort and learn the material. She does participation questions every lecture so mandatory attendance. Her quizzes are a question from the homework.
Soo was a very nice professor. She is sometimes hard to understand. If you go to class, she gives a ton of ICA's which are easy points. Basically she just wants to see if you are attempting to learn the stuff. Class was kind of difficult, she definitely makes you work for it. Very nice, subject wasn't my favorite so that could be it.
Tests are not too bad as long as you study. The worst part of this class is the group projects, which are a pain in the you know what. Make sure to sit close to the front because she can be a little hard to understand sometimes. Not the worst professor in the world but try to take someone else if you can.
Soo makes the class sound intimidating the first day but if you put effort into the class you won't have a problem passing. Read the chapters and practice ICAs for the tests. Make sure you get a reliable group for the projects.
Professor Sieber is a great teacher. If you go to class and follow along with lecture and just do the examples with her, you will do fine with this class. Kind of lenient on grading. Quiz everyday but she takes a question from the homework you're supposed to do before class. Post online lectures to help. Studied 5 hours for exams and did fine.
Terrible teacher i used to love stat so much but she made me hate it. Shes so rude and disrespectful. Doesnt answer your questions and expects you to know everything. She makes the subject more complicated.
Horrible teacher. It is very hard to understand her with her thick accent. She has assignments in class everyday and you cant skip or you lose points. She also does half online/in person which is very bothersome because she never reminds you when the online hw is due. If you ask a question, she will yell at you and expect you to know it already.
She expects you to put in the work in order to pass this class. She weighs the homework, quizzes, and in class activities to help offset the test grades in case you do bad on the tests. She drops the lowest 2 homework, quizzes, and in class activity grades. If you do the work, even if you don't pass every test you will still pass the class.
I took both ECN3030 and QMM 2410 with Sieber, by choice. If you do the work, you will pass. She can be hard to understand in the beginning but it gets easier to understand her. She also provides a lot of extra materials (online lectures & Videos) due to this. I believe she cares about student's success.
Ah , good ole soo. Soo was a good professor for me most people say you cant understand her but that isn't true at all. I used to live in china for 11 years so i can make out her words. Soo is one of the best professors at Oakland University and she will teach you about korea too.
very hard to understand being she has a accent. Also does not help when you have a question.
Great prof, tough class. She has a lot of material she tries to cover, so while none of it is overly challenging, there is a lot. Exam problems are all from in class assignments/lectures, so as long as you pay attention in class and study you should be fine. No curve and little extra credit so get points where you can (homework, attendance).
She is a great professor, but her class just required a lot of time and effort. I put in approximately 7+ hrs a week doing the homework and studying. She is a caring professor if you ever need help and her lectures are very easy to follow. Homework and quizzes are all online and the tests are exactly like her ICA's. Usually no class on Mondays.
People say this is the hardest class at OU, but Soo Sieber makes it very manageable. She is very clear in her expectations and her grading criteria. She offers a couple extra credit opportunities, as well as builds EC into the exams. Do the ICAs, Homework (and use them to study), and show up to class and you should do good! Would highly recommend!
This professor is not the worst and not the best. If economics/calculus is not your subject, I would not suggest her. However, the extra credit helps with your grade. Do not miss a class and there is a lot of homework that will take a lot of the time out of the week. She gives two exams and one final. Her summer course is extremely fast paced.
First of all, I don't understand why Univeristys hire professors that can barely speak English or that have a heavy accent. It hasn't even been 2 weeks and the homework is tough and I can barely understand what she says in the lecture hall. It's very tough to take the course when the information can barley be able to understand. Wouldnt recommend!
First of all, her accent makes it 100 times harder to understand and she struggles with certain words. Second she goes over examples in class and then excepts it to try it with a totally different example that makes no sense to what she went over. Lastly, her homework takes too long and it's too hard.
The absolute worst. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. She does not review material. If she goes over her lecture time and you leave she will assign extra credit for those who stayed. Our class averages on exam one were 63%, then 55% for the midterm. She has a "do not bother me" clause in her syllabus that she makes you sign and give back to her.
I had Soo for Stats and dropped after how difficult it was. I didn't sign up for her for this course again, but I was dumped into it after a professor I wanted stopped teaching. It's been the worst experience of my academic career. I've had her twice now and I've dropped both. She expects you to devote your entire life to her course. AVOID
If you are looking for a professor you can barely understand, has you spend $120 on extra homework and quizzes online, and will call you out by name in a big lecture hall for being on your phone then take Soo- DO NOT TAKE. She is rude, no laptops, phones or watches allowed in class. There are in class assignments every class so you have to go.
Worst professor I've ever had. Not only is she hard to understand because of her accent but the material is VERY hard. I'm surprised I even passed. Her lectures were very fast paced and wouldn't even let you take pictures of the power point if you couldn't keep up with her. The amount of stress she caused me was almost unbearable. AVOID HER!!!!
This lady runs this class like bootcamp. Seriously I have never been so stressed in all of my years are OU. Avoid her if you can!!
If you value your sanity and mental health do not, I repeat DO NOT -take this professor. I have never experienced more stress in all my time at OU- seriously you've been warned. Seiber has been working at OU for over 10 years she does not care about anything you say. She assigns extensive amount of hw and has you sign a contract the first day
This professor expects you to devote your whole life and then some for this class. The amount of work is excess, more work that i've had to do for any class at OU- and the stress her class will cause you- RUN! I promise you do not want to take this professor
Stuck with this professor for summer 2020 online. So far it's been the worst experience. She assigns excessive amounts of homework, I'm putting in like 10-15 hours a week and I have 2 other classes. She grades the case study essays very hard hard and doesn't provide us with a rubric. I'm already stressed and its been like 3 weeks!! AVOID
In all my years at OU this has been the worst experience, worst class, WORST professor. I truthfully cannot put into words the stress this professor will cause you. Trust me and other reviewers, AVOID HER!
Worst class I've ever taken in all 4 years at OU. I can't even believe how this professor treats this course. Bootcamp is right. Her grading is so harsh and we had weekly case studies worth 100 points each. It was a nightmare and I am glad this class is over. I wish I could give her a lower rating it was that bad.
Professor Seiber expected 20 hours a week of homework which makes it impossible if you work full time and take any other class. Homework was at least 5 different items every week. There was not enough time to complete the tests unless you memorized all formulas and variations of them. Other classes similar had 30 minutes longer on the tests.
She organizes her class well. She is overall rude and very suspicious of cheating even on small assignments. Purposely does not give enough time on exams in order to stop cheating. She refers to this as her "system". Very excessive amount of homework each weak. Don't take unless you have literally no life responsibiities or other classes! Stressss
This woman is a terrible person and professor. Avoid at all costs. The only good thing about this class was the structure but she makes it sooooo difficult to pass
I really don't get why she has so many bad reviews. Professor Sieber is honestly a great professor and cares about her students. Yes her class is homework heavy, but she is always accessible for help on assignments. There are many ways to get credit and exams only made up 40% of the grade. Its a hard course, not a bad professor.
This class has been the worst of my entire academic existence. Due to the pandemic this class was online which made it 10x harder. Her recorded lectures where 20 minutes each. I felt like it was IMPOSSIBLE to get a good grade on the case studies and she refused to give a rubric. Felt helpless in her course and felt she did nothing to help students
Professor Soo is by far the worst professor I have ever took in my college career. She is constantly suspicious of cheating. Purposely does not give enough time on exams which leaves you stressed out while taking the exam. Lecture videos were pre-recorded from dates all the way back from 2012. Strong accent, and slides were like chicken scratch.
This professor is awful. Outdated slides with a strong accent and terrible penmanship. Tests are impossible and there is not enough time to complete the tests. She expects hours upon hours of homework each week and that is near impossible when you have to work full-time or have other classes. DO NOT TAKE HER EVER! IT WILL BE A HUGE MISTAKE
Soo has probably become the most unliked professor in all of OU and for good reason. Her grading is harsh and she gives zero guidance. I felt helpless in her class and felt she could have given students more opportunity to reach out to her for help. Shes mean and strict and that is just not a way to teach your students.
There are not enough words talk about her grading and lectures that you can't even be able to read. She just read from her old version PowerPoint and expecting you to finish many assignments and 6 cases studies. She go over ever assignments just to find a mistake so she can give u low grade. PLEASE DON'T TAKE HER, YOUR LIFE WILL BE RUINED!
pros: -her lectures videos are pretty good -she exams aren't weighted too heavily cons: -the group project alone is enough to make me encourage others to seek another professor. it requires so much time and effort and it can be extremely overwhelming given the current circumstances -TOUGH GRADER & her expectations can be vague
Ive never had a professor cause me so much stress and anxiety over a pre-req class. I wish I took these ratings more seriously. Dont take her unless you have absolutely no life responsibilities. Shes rude and condescending and doesnt care about whats going on in your life.
There were a lot of things that could have made this class better but the professor's "know it all" attitude didn't really allow room for feedback. She's not very welcoming , and states in her syllabus she doesn't care about our personal situations or "excuses". Not the type of professor id want to ask for help from. Don't take her.
No offense intended but this is the worst class I've ever taken. There is an excessive amount of material each week and the lecture videos are almost impossible for me to understand with her accent. She cannot communicate effectively, do not take
Tough class
Professor Sieber was a very bad choice for QMM2410. She pretty much does not teach, there are pre recorded lectures but they don't help that much. Case studies are hard, she goes over the ICAs after they are due so that's not helpful at all. Exams are basically like the car studies and ICAs. Group project is hard and imo pointless. Do not take her!
Im so glad this class is over. Anyone that gets stuck with this professor good luck. I read the reviews when I found out I got her. I thought "this won't be that bad ppl are exaggerating" - Well they weren't. Don't take this professor if you don't want added stress to your life. She's rude and refuses to listen to students feedback about the class
Avoid taking Professor Sieber! She is unclear with instructions/ feedback and during our class times, she doesnt lecture. She assigns in-class assignments and expects us to watch the lectures on our own time. She will mark your grade down a ton for the littlest things. I felt like I was struggling in a class that was meant to be an easy intro.
Listen to these reviews and DO NOT TAKE Professor Sieber!! She is very rude, inconsiderate, and her expectations are out of control. Terrible class!!
Nice woman, absent instructor. She does not teach so If you decide to take her class you will be teaching yourself the material. Very thick accent, her english writing is legit illiterate 50% of the time, and assigns an incredible amount of work for a intro class. I would not recommend taking her course.
If you're reading the reviews and thinking people are being dramatic, they're not. She's downright awful. If she's the only professor teaching a class you need, I would wait another semester until another teacher becomes available. Otherwise you'll spend the entire semester stressed and miserable!!
Doesn't have good communication; blames it on you if she tells you to do the wrong thing or doesn't explain directions well. Also extremely rude if you tell her she miscommunicated. Weekly homework that's really easy, no quizzes, exams are always way more difficult than the homework and she expects you to know every single little thing. Avoid!!!
Do yourself a favor and don't take her class. She is very inconsiderate to students time for other classes and loads you up with so much busy work. Hard to understand sometimes, wants you to do the most for her class. She is also very rude when you make a comment about her class. She told our class best way to prep for exam is know everything......
OU needs to do everyone a favor and get rid of this professor. Absolute worst class I have ever taken in college and my entire class agreed! She has horrible broken English which makes her hard to understand and she does not give any feedback on assignments. It was always a guessing game with her and she sets strict, unrealistic expectations.
CEO of Is it make sense? Nothing about this class makes sense. Shes a tough grader and doesnt give feedback. Youll last the whole semester bringing up your grade. No study guide provided she does ICAs so if you miss class youll miss 10 points. Hard to understand and doesnt answer questions clearly. Would not take again, terrible Professor.
Please dont take her as your professor I have never had a WORSE experience in my life with a professor. Someone asked her a questions during class because we all are so confused all the time and she REFUSED to answer/help us out which is quite ridiculous. Every class there is 2/3 assignments are due and then she likes to give quiz with 5mins left:)
Soo Sieber does not communicate with her students. She is not a good professor in any capacity, and those who argue otherwise are not well rounded students. Microeconomics is an intro-level class and she teaches it like it's a 3000 level. Do not take this professor she will drop your gpa on purpose. You wont be able to understand a word she says.
Do not take this class. You will have to teach yourself everything. Her lectures are very difficult to understand and she gives out several in-class assignments and quizzes with no time to do them or understand them. Her English makes it impossible to learn and being over the computer doesn't help in the slightest.
if you're planning to spend your whole week doing hw, take her. She gives out so much homework it's unbelievable. As if this is all not enough she added ICA to force us to watch her lecture videos. Her tests are mostly written. Also, you have to attend class because on top of her hw she likes to give out 2-3 assignments during that time.
For an intro course the workload is way too heavy. Most weeks it's about 6-8 hours including the readings. You can't really gloss over the readings either as her lectures are really difficult to understand due to her accent so you're basically teaching yourself with the book in order not to fail the tests.
Show up to class! There are in class assignments that count towards your grade. As long as you make an effort and show your work, you will do well. I spent about 4-6 hours a week on this class outside of lecture. However in class work helped better understanding. 2 exams (mid & final). Don't be afraid to ask questions.
This is my second course with Prof. Soo, & I have a third in the fall. This class is mandatory for your own good, she wants you to do well & understand the material. Her in-class assignments help so much when it comes to HW. If you read her notes before class and get a grasp of the topic, her lectures will help you study and enhance the material.
I received 3rd degree burns on my hands/arms less than a year ago. I asked her for a couple of extra hours on an assignment because my hand started bleeding. I had to drive an hour away to get a doctors note even though I have very visibly fragile/broken skin and skin grafts. She is less than accommodating. Worst class I have ever taken anywhere.
I've been to four different colleges and I have never had such a horrible professor. She is unclear about her expectations, says I don't know when you ask her what will be on exams, gets frustrated when you ask questions, her notes are ILLEGIBLE, and you will receive minimal to no feedback. I wouldn't take this professor again if you paid me.
Soo Sieber is one of the best professors I have had. She is always ready to help her students understand the material. It is a difficult class but with the way she teaches really does benefit the students!
I'm very pleased with Professor Soo and her ability to make complex topics into such simple terms. She's very understanding and I liked her class. Attendance is mandatory, we had quizzes every week, and her assignments weren't hard as long as you read. 10/10.
She is the worst professor ever. She has the thickest accent that makes it impossible to understand anything she is saying. She also has the worst handwriting so you can't even read what she is writing down. You have to teach yourself everything because she explains things horribly. Attendance is graded off ICAs. I would never ever take her again.
thick accent cant understand
Honestly just go to class, read the book, and you'll be fine. She's super sweet, this didn't really affect me but she does have a strong accent so it might be hard for some people who heavily rely on lectures for learning. As long as you read and take notes on your own time you're good! In class activities that she does helps sooo much. Love her!
So cute. She's adorable, I love her. You do have to teach yourself a lot, but she helps you understand what you've learned through in class activities. Homework online every week, but easy points because you get 3 tries on every question.
