very hard to understand and follow
Hard to understand, not flexible on absences but pleasant to be around.
At times he is hard to understand with his speech, but very willing to help
really enjoys teaching- always willing to help you out if needed-DO HOMEWORK
Very easy IF you come to every class. Tests based largely on lectures and SPSS.
The homework is easy, but the tests are nothing like the homework
Very friendly & fair.Always available 2 answer ?'s Sometimes a little unclear.
"I am a car. You drive me. If going to fast you hit break." -Soon Hong
Treats students like they are kindergarteners. He's fake nice, and happy -avoid
Treats students like they are 5, but a good teacher otherwise
Made the subject very intersting.. Humerous.. made me want to learn. Great Prof!
Was not very sympathetic to those who didn't understand. Otherwise he was ok
Very good prof. Learn more English!!!
not clear..tests are NOTHING like HW...doesn't teach well..avoid
Great Prof!!! Last sem i got a D w/ another prof, now i'm almost getting an A-!
Very arrogant
Makes students laugh, may yell at u in front of class,do homework everyday!
Very un-helpful and does not like questions and expects you to be a computer whi
funny guy. class is easy, no projects, he may yell at you but its all in fun.
Nice man, means well, hard to understand at times
excellent prof, funny, great class, he made it fun!!!
He's a good guy and teaches well. May be a little hard to understand at times.

Worst I ever had
Go to class, do homework & you'll be fine. Everything is done on computers.
Not a great prof, hard to understand, test are not hard if you can problem solve
hard, don't take, mean to students who don't under stand, do homework!!!
he's not being mean - he's joking. And he's not that hard.
he is tough to understand, go to class you will do well
He's a nice guy. Makes material easy to understand. No Projects!
GO TO CLASS!! Then class is VERY easy!
Go to class- then it's easy. Boring though. Sometimes he can be stuckup.
Don't take him, thinks he is better than you, didnt like him at all
good guy. Funny and teaches well. no projects. easy tests.
Very difficult to understand, had to retake course and did better w/dif. Prof.
Hard to understand, kinda snotty, but good prof- listen to lectures
Nice guy! Tests are hard but he will always help you.
difficult, but you leanr a lot from him
great for spr/sum,make sure you do ALL hmwk, and you'll do fine, great guy!
Not difficult, good stats teacher, a lil hard to understand at first
Awful Prof! Hard to understand. Had to retake class. Don't take this class!!!!
Easy! has no patience for slow people, so if you're a moron he will not like you
He's intelligent, but class is very difficult. There are other (easier) stats profs, take them intead.
Great professor, he's always there to answer questions either in person or through email. If you show up to class everyday, you'll understand the materials. Don't skip this class, and you'll take away a true understanding of beginning statistics.
Slightly arrogant, but the class is easy. You just need to go. Doesn't make you memorize any formulas, lets you have a cheat sheet for tests. Explains things pretty simply.
This guy is very cool, his use of metaphor in class can be hilarious and if you are not a moron, getting an A in here is as easy as showing up to class MOST of the time.
Prof Hong is a great professor. He makes statistics easy to understand with his deliberate teaching style. Not only does he make stats easy to understand but he makes the class fun with his sense of humor. Just show up for class and you will be fine.
Awesome professor. Knows the material inside and out. Expects alot from students, but makes material understandable. Attend class and do the homework and you will do fine. Ask questions, he is willing to help. Kinda arrogant at times though, good though.
Great teacher and personality. Really wants to help students. He is good at returning emails. He has an accent but was very clear to me. He likes tennis and is actually really funny!
Good teacher if you go to class.
Very nice and humorous man. Pretty good teacher overall but a little confusing.
Soon is a great prof. He really encourages people to learn and think, rather than merely study for tests. The class itself is oriented toward applied techniques, rather than theory and math. Excellent class for CSIS or STA people, not overly difficult.
Soon is a great prof.
His accent kind of threw me off a little bit and his obsession with smoking and our ancestors was pretty annoying. Overall a great teacher. Always spent at least a full day on one concept which made the class easy. Lets you take a cheat sheet in on tests.
Really nice guy, perhaps too enthusiastic about statistics. If you're good at math, he's your guy. With extra credit, I got a 109% in the class...over summer too!!
Very good professor. The cheat sheet for exams is very helpful. He provides a lot of resources. There's no way you could fail the class.
take hong if you can he is the one of the best professors ive had. you have to try to fail his class.
Good teacher, makes stats a breeze. Take him!
He is very funny and easy going. Gives you pleanty of opportunity to make you grades up in your homework or on your test. Do not miss class, or you are screwed! Plus you need to know this carp if you are a psych major!!! I got a B+ in the class. Was a good class to take in the summertime!
Soon is the man. Not many people can explain stuff this complex in such an easy-to-understand way. He also deserves props for teaching a multivariate analysis class at the undergrad level, which is extremely rare. Tough material, but he adjusts the pace to make it not bad at all.
Very helpful professor. Takes time to make sure everyone understands the material before he moves on. The cheat sheets for the exams are nice as well. He's a very nice guy who knows his stuff
It doesn't help that I'm not a math person AT ALL. It also definately didn't help that it seemed like all that Prof. Hong gave us was powerpoint presentations. I would not want to take him again, I had trouble on the tests and understanding what he was saying/talking about sometimes. Not recommended
Said he would help, then when asked he would ridicule you.
If you put in the effort and show that you're genuinely interested and want to know more, he likes that. Go to office hours and he helps out alot, even gives answers sometimes. He is a very enthusiastic and funny guy. Extrememly nice and really just wants you to learn.
lets put it this way...i have no idea how i had a "B" going into the final exam...long story short i bombed the final but i still got a "C". The moral of the story is i still have no clue on what stats is...take him and get your "C" and run!!!! if your looking for a pasing "C" then take Hong
Way overrated. Hard to understand and the class moves too quickly. This is a hard class.
Prof. Hong was the worst professor that I have ever had. He is extremely unclear, and he gives awful notes. His grader is extremely harsh on the homework, but the tests are fairly easy. Do NOT take Stats with Hong.
REALLY confusing class with way too much homework and a hard grader. Everything is unclear most of the time, I really wouldn't recommend taking this class with him.
Hong is the worst teacher ever. You cant understand a word he says. He grades unfair and expects you to be a math wizard to pass his class. He thinks he is funny, but he's really just a jerk with a THICK accent.
Avoid at all costs!! Hard to understand and notes are all over the place. Exams aren't bad but some info wasn't covered in class and the book won't help so notes are important. To make a long story short I am retaking this class!! I got a D. He sucks.
I hardly ever went to class and would have easily got an A but I didn't hand in one of the homework sets. But he is a jerk if you ask for help, my roomate helped me study last minute for exams and I always did well, i didn't think he made the material hard but he was just not a cool guy
Avoid this professor with all cost. He is hard does not explain enough. Does not offer any type of format for exams. What he does tell you to study is not on the exams. Do not take him!!!
The guy really is a good prof. I'm terrible at math and left with a decent understanding of stats and SAS. Expect some work, but he grades fair, and the exams aren't too bad. Spend some time to make your assignments look good- it can get you extra credit. His accent is not bad. He's occasionally pretty funny.
Very knowledgable. I hate math so this class was tough for me. He makes you feel like an idiot when you ask questions. Accent isn't too bad, sometimes amusing. He goes quick - just copy down what he writes on the board and try to understand it later...confusing. All in all, just do the homework set and there's only 3 exams. Easy.
The class isn't very organized, but if you ask him for help, he'll try to explain more. TAKE NOTES!!! The book doesn't explain anything to you so don't bother looking up anything from class in there. He goes slow over the easy stuff and fast over the hard stuff. Make sure you understand what you're going over. Wasn't too bad of a prof though.
Very hard to understand not only because of accent, but because he's so unclear on his lectures. Expects everyone to understand the first time. He'll make you look like a fool if you ask questions.
Dont listen to the whiners below Soon is a good prof. Class is not that hard and he will help you if you need it. Very nice guy, accent is a little hard at first but you get used to it. Lets you use a note page for tests. Make sure you learn stuff in the beginning b/c it all builds. Would recomend taking him for sure
TAKE HIM gives extra credit just for showing up, tells you exactly what will be on test, goes over info several times, lets you ask questions about homework before handing in, lets you bring a full sheet of paper with notes to each test, very amusing and happy guy, laugh at him when he's funny and he'll love you
DO NOT TAKE! he is an awful professor. you can hardly understand him through his accent. Oh and you better have good computer skills b/c he requires a comp program called spss. Tests are hard as hell. and hates it when u ask him questions, he expects you to know everything.
this is not a very difficult class at all. he is a really nice/funny guy. if you have a question about a problem, just email him or ask him & he'll tell u exactly how to do it, or give you the answer. the 3 quizzes aren't very bad. some questions u get confused but ur able to make a cheat sheet & use it on all of the tests/quizzes. i recommend him
Awful teacher. He yells at you for asking questions, and makes you sound like a fool. He doesn't go over all the handouts, and his tests are hard. One class period he handed us a handout and did not go over it at all.. ( there was no point in coming to class that day) and when you asked a question, he said you should know how to do it.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER!!!
The professor is not helpful at all, yells at students, and you can't understand a word he says.
The class is easy as long as you are able to understand his accent, which is pretty thick I'll admit. But if you can get past that, the class isn't hard. Though the final is extremely hard, it won't bring down your grade as much as you think, so don't sweat it too much. You are better off emailing him if you have a question, because he does make
Prof. Hong was a really good teacher. He did powerpoint lectures which got somewhat boring, but he was really clear. Sometimes his accent was a little hard to understand, but had a sense of humor. Homework had a lot to it but he always would do them in class and pretty much gave the answers. Got to use notes on the quizzes and final.
i'm not very good at math or stats, and I found him somewhat uesless. If I asked a question, he would kind of make fun of me for not understanding. He teaches class like everyone already understands whats going on, but I had no statistics experience whatsoever, adn fell behind. he's kind of hard to understnad sometimes too.
If you have any common sense at all any proffesor will be easy so it really doesn't matter. His accent isn't that bad, I understood him. He made everything as clear as possible. He lets you use a computer program called spss and as long as you can click a few buttons and use a minimal amount of common sense spss will give you all the answers.
You probably wont understand the first or second day of each chapter, but make sure you still take notes on the gibberish, it will make sense later! If you do the homework and know the worksheets he passes out in class, youll ace the tests if you are decently smart. He does enjoy making fun of people who asks questions he deems as stupid.
I understood more from the book, than I did from him or attending class.
Prof. Hong is a pretty funny guy. 215 is an extremely easy class. always study his lecture foci and the book. i found his lecture worthless. The lab work was almost always really easy. overall I'd recommend him.
I didn't like stats that much and this prof didn't really help. If you ask a question he makes fun of you. I was fairly lost with the new material but eventually it makes sense. The tests are fairly easy but there are like 3 or 4 questions that he never went over.
You should feel lucky you don't want to kill yourself after having Hong.He makes you feel like such a failure and says "why don't you don't know that?!" when you ask a question. When we came to class,he wanted us to tell him what we read in the book; he never lectured, just asked us questions and told us we were wrong constantly.VERY unfair grading.
Prof. Hong was pretty easy. Sometimes he's hard to understand, but when it came to the homework, he pretty much gave the answers. He lets you use your condensed notes on a sheet of paper for the quizzes and final.
I could not understand this teacher at all. When you ask him something he makes you feel dumb and can't even answer. The lab quizzes are unneccessary but there are a ton of them. don't take this prof..most are easier!!
I really enjoyed professor Hong. His lectures went by quick and although he has an accent, he was fairly easy to understand. Overall the class was pretty easy as long as you went to lab.
Difficult concepts, doesnt have the best English skills, Will help you in and out of class but is condensending, or makes you feel dumb, which is very frustrating!
Cannot understand him!!
Wonderful teacher. His English is perfectly fine, regardless of what others have said, but he's Korean and he has a Seoul accent. He's very helpful, replies to emails promptly and will answer all questions you have. Tests are easy if you've done your homework and paid attention. let you use a sheet of equations on tests.
Soon is awesome. Very clear in what he wants and how to do assignments. He does NOT take late assignments, so be sure to get them in on time. Made me want to switch to a stats minor. Don't believe the BS about not being able to understand him. He speaks perfect English, just with an accent.
Prof. Hong is an excellent professor. He explains what he wants, and gives you the tools needed to do the projects, and if turned in on time, grades pretty easily. He also responds unusually quickly to emails. Not a lazy professor by any means.
Great professor and a nice guy. I am not a math wiz by any means and I pulled of an A- in his class. Just listen and ask for help if needed. He does an EXCELLENT job in explaining 'difficult' concepts in a relatively easy and understandable way which i think is the best thing about him. If you suck at math and need STATS215, i recommend him
Very fair and helpful prof; not that aproachable at first though. He can explain things well but can also be condescending. Just listen and keep asking questions.
No need for book. Best stats professor ever! Always has time for his students.. even leaves his office open during lunch. Very fair grader and can argue your grade. Go to office hours to check projects and you will always do well. I got a 98% in his class and its the only stats class I really learned from. Don't miss class Hard projects & easy exam
Very difficult to understand. Gives very surface level explanations and makes you figure the concepts out yourself on the homework. Does not usually let you ask homework questions until after it's turned in.
A lot of labs and they are due at the end of class. If you are more slow-paced than others, do not expect that he will let you turn it in during office hours for full points. I always did labs beforehand outside of class since all you need to know is in the coursepack. I showed up to turn in labs and leave. Take a different professor if you can.
Professor Hong was pretty alright overall. His accent really isn't too hard to understand. His tests are easy, but make sure you go to class because he'll essentially tell you what's going to be on them. I didn't open the book once, so don't bother buying it. He tends to be pretty condescending when you go to him for help though.
Not bad, not great. Dr. Hong is a little condensending to students. Not the hardest class but not a blow off class either.
