Her grading system is whack. But she is cool, class is not too hard. A lot of papers.
She comes off as a rude and stuck up person. She makes the class harder than it should be.
I had her for minorites and gender. In both must post on boards 3 times a week and one quiz a week. Lots of work. We have 3 large papers. Other online classes make this one look like it should be a 4 credit course! Other than that good teacher, much learning, but hey, be prepared to work.
Try to avoid these classes unless you like doing a lot of work. She's unfair and biased. Presses her beliefs as if they're facts and leaves no room for critical thinking and opinion.
Very nice and interesting. She is hard. You will have to do alot of work.
I loved her class. I was the most interesting class I ever took at Montco. She is really smart. You will learn lots of things you never knew before.
I haven't been in school for 20 yrs and this class was hard to me, but I walked away with a better appreciation for learning about others cultures. I recommend her highly but be prepare to write and read a lot.
Very interesting class. I found the readings fascinating and learned a lot.

I TOOK THIS CLASS ONLINE AND IT WAS GREAT. PRETTY EASY FOR A SUMMER COURSE! I ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND HER! SHE IS ALWAYS HELPING AND OVERALL THE CLASS WAS E A S Y!
Take this class with her if you have to take it. This teacher is prepared every class and has some interesting things to say. The class was never boring.
She seems very stuck up. I think she wants and expects people to fail. In 234, she uses many long, outdated articles to make points, and often has trouble backing up her views. Both classes are very one-sided, and she makes students feel like they have to agree with her view.
very hard. uses very long and boring article. forces students to understand her opinion. Sometimes just ignores students and don't want to hear their opinion. Makes this course more complicated than it is. I wouldn't recommend her to anyone.
My favorite teacher at Montco. She is really organized and passionate about the topic. As long as you do all the reading and talk in class you will do fine. Class discussions are alawys interesting. It was a lot of work but the topic and the way she presents it makes it a really good class to take if you need it.
did not like if you knew more about a subject than she did. Would find data that did not apply to all groups of people.
Sophia is one of the best teachers you will ever encounter. She is very helpful and has a passion for the material she teaches! The class is easy if you put effort into it.
At first i loathed this class. By the end it really opened my eyes. There is a lot of work. There are articles and reading everyweek. She taught it well and i enjoyed it. The class was mainly open discussion which made it interesting to hear everyone else's views.
This is an eye-opening course for those with a lack of independant thought. As long as you agree with her opinions, and let her put words in your mouth all will be well.
The class was a lot of work, but I though I got something out of it. You will definately have a rough time if you have strong opinions that don't match up to the prof's, however, I think that's just part of the class that you have to live with. If you go in with an open mind and aren't too worried about putting forth your own agenda you'll do OK.
Dr Demasi has some strong opinions about social minorities but doesn't seem to have a good idea of what it is like to be a non traditional student. She is opinionated and doesn't seem to want to work with you unless she is forced to by a higher authority. Maybe she knows alot about her class but she doesn't know what it is like to be a real perso
I took the online class because nothing else was open but I ended up really liking it. She was very helpful with the final assignment. My email was always answered on the same day.
I took the class online. It was extremely difficult but fair. Tests were timed and open book. Weekly discussions were guided and kept within boundaries. Papers were required, one of which was a research assignment. It was a difficult class but I learned a ton. Good teacher, but hard!
WOW. This was an intense class. I worked my tail off but she really helps you learn. The course is interesting and something everyone needs to learn. I highly recommend it. You do need to do all the reading and papers though. She does not cut any slack.
Dr. Demasi was very frustrating. I'm fine with hard classes, but most people don't want sociology to be the hardest class of the semester. She makes an interesting class a pain in the butt. It won't matter how well you explain yourself if its different than what she thinks your grade will suffer. There are better sociology teachers don't take her.
I took her class online and was very pleased with her as a professor. She is well organized and offered great tools for learning this subject.
I took this class online and I liked it better than taking it in the classroom. She is a great teacher and there are tons of things to read and videos to watch. I found it intense at times but it was managable. ENJOY!
I learned so much from her class. She is an excellent professor.
She made HORRIBLE remarks about my heritage. When I left her class she followed me outside and tried to argue with me. Had to go to the DEAN and inform her of the situation. DON'T DISAGREE WITH HER if you take her class DON'T be an independent thinker or your grades will suffer
Cites information and powerpoints, provides strong lectures and discussion starters. Cut and dry about coursework. There is only one right point of view on a topic, which was hard to wrap my head around often. Lets the class take unecessary routes sometimes, changing the subject when arguments arise. Does not always maintain class control, frustrat
Biased, unclear, don't take online!
I will have to 2nd guess trying my second online class because of her.... key to an A: lay low, agree, agree, do not formulate your own educated opinion. This will most likely be my first and last review... completely disgusted with this prof.... I did attain a B but am still very annoyed...
She is tough. I learned a lot in this class, however, I also learned that you cannot have an opinion that differs from hers, or else you will not be successful in the class. This is unfortunate as many times I would agree with her just for the sake of my grade. So, my relationship with her wasn't as authentic as I would have liked it to be.
I LOVED this class!!! It was so interesting and I feel like I've learned so much. Prof. Demasi was a great teacher. There is a quiz every week and 3 tests plus papers but it really isn't that much. This class is worth taking because it is so interesting.
Worst class I have ever taken, if you challenge any of the readings, prepare to receive poor grades. Complete snob...
Interesting and fun class. Not the easiest but I learned alot. highly recommend.
I took her online, i wouldn't recommend it. She gives ridiculous grades. She tells you one thing, and you do it, and you still get a bad grade. Don't disagree with her. Make sure you POST a LOT on the discussion board or you will NOT receive participation grades, or at least good ones. If you can refrain from taking her, definitely do so.
I am currently enrolled in her class and so far the class is fantastic. As long as you participage in the online discussions and complete the assignments you will be fine. She is very receptive to questions regarding grades as well.
I took her online in Summer 1. I would't take her again. I ended up with a C in the class and I participated all of the time. Her quizzes are timed, and doesn't give you a very long time to take the test/quizzes with the type of questions asked. Very annoying. I'd go for another teacher if possible, if not, make sure you know what you're doing!
Not a good teacher. Quizzes are ridiculous. No time to look up questions and she expects us to memorize the book. Grading is horrible. Weekly postings are only worth 4 points but required to do 6 a week! Avoid taking her!!!
Professor Demasi has an agenda, and that agenda is to indoctrinate her students into thinking the way she does...which is pretty far to the left on the political spectrum. I understand that most professors in academia today are like her, but a hard working, independent thinking student should not be punished just because their opinion differs.
Enrolled in the online soc 101 course. Had to drop the class after two weeks. If you have an opinion different than hers or her favorite students, you will receive backlash for it. Cannot work full time or have a family with this online course. Avoid if possible.
I took this as an online summer class and I would not recomend it. Although she is intelligent, I found her to be a bit tougher than most prof that I've taken. She may be better on campus, but her grading is tough. She also give out a lot of work.
She was a great teacher. She was definitely tough, but she made me appreciate the field of sociology much more and I now view the world around me much more openly. I did not expect it to be as hard and time consuming as it was given that it was an intro course. But, she definitely made the class challenging and interesting at the same time.
I took her class online, which means it is more on your own, but each week we had a quiz of 20 questions and we were only given 20 minutes to take it. I failed half of my quizzes for the week because I had a minute, if that, to do each question. It's not like I didn't read my text either, but it was just rediculous and not even worth it.
Easy teacher. Just post as required and the course is an easy A.
Returned to school after many years and was shocked at how intense and difficult this 101 class was. Why is an introductory class set up like an Honors class? Great teacher though, very helpful. Just be prepared to work hard if you want to pass, and keep an open mind about the topics.
I was really looking forward to this class, but was very disappointed in the teacher. The tests are hard, and not covered well. Only 20 minutes to do 20 questions. I dropped this class in the first week. I want to take it again next semester with a different teacher!! Wouldn't recommend her to any one.
I just finished this course with a really good grade, but it was definitely a challenge. If you want to pass Sociology with an easy A, do not sign up for this instructor. If you want to learn a lot and absorb plenty of priceless information, take her. Quizzes are easy if you know how to read and interpret the textbook. She is also very fair.
Took this class online. It was so hard. The teacher puts little work in and you have to teach yourself. Do not take this. I have received A's in my other online coarses but thise teachers actually taught.
This was one of my favorite classes, she is so sweet. Basically, you had to read one chapter a week, it wasn't bad because it was very interesting. You would have one chapter quiz a week and 6 discussion board posts (2Mon, 2Wed, and 2 Fri was my schedule). I got a B because I got lazy and didn't read the material, the quizzes are timed for 20 mins.
She is clear on her expectations from the start. She gives weekly 20 question online quizzes which are pretty easy. She gives a study guide for midterm and final. There is a lot of group work and a final presentation. This is an easy AB class! She made class interesting and showed a lot of videos to help understand concepts. Would recommend
She's terrible and doesn't help you out at all. You must be in class everyday. Her quizzes are 20 questions and takes 20 minutes to do which barely gives you time. You also have to study the quiz you're taking for that week a week before while she's already teachings the next chapter! Just terrible
Very organized online class. The workload remained pretty consistent throughout the course which made it easy because you knew what to expect and how to get a good grade. The class was mainly based on our textbook. Tests are generally easy if you study beforehand an are open book
This was a great class! she is the most organized online professor that I have ever had. She answers emails in a timely fashion, and is clear when answering questions. This class was very informative and enjoyable. Class week runs from Saturday to Sunday. Be prepared to read a book, and write a 3-4 pg book review. GREAT CLASS
Great teacher great class. She is very active in the discussion boards and responds to posts with good insight. Her class was very organized and if you stay on top of the assignments on time then you will succeed. This was the most interesting class I have taken in my three years of college.
It was definitely an easy A if you took the time. Every week there is at least two open book tests, and they are timed which is the hardest part in my opinion. Weekly discussion boards with a mandatory six post minimum. As well as three extra assignments throughout the six weeks. She gives good feedback and is very involved in class discussions.
Prof Demasi is wonderful!! I am currently taking her online Soc101 and I love it. Honestly, I'm not super interested in Soc but she gives you such a different perspective of things. You have to do a few posts each week and a quiz every Friday, 2 current events the whole semester and a movie review. She is very quick to respond!!
Dont take her. She is terrible. She doesnt like to help at all. A lot of work . Each class 20 questions for 20 minuets only.
I really enjoyed Professor Demasi! I learned a great deal of things throughout her course & would easily take her again! Her online assignments were the most challenging part of the course because it is easy to forget about them. Lectures, class discussions & class activities are informative and worth every second! Dont be afraid to ask questions!
I took this as a summer online class. 14 weeks of info in a 6 week period. LOTS of reading, 6 posts a week required within 3 days, a weekly test - 20 questions in 20 min. 3 papers, videos to view etc. Mind you I work, and I am a mom, I spent like 15 hrs a week on this course. I would say don't take over the summer. Does not give extra credit.
Professor Demasi is an awesome professor. I'm currently taking soc101 online and have really enjoyed it. There's a lot of reading and I struggle on the weekly quizzes. However the opportunities to participate on the discussion board make it easy to maintain an OK grade regardless. She always comments back and keeps the discussion going.
Awesome class. Easy grader. Interesting material. I learned so much.
This teacher is so nice. She always gets back to you right away. She even called me at home when I was not doing well. With her help I was able to get a B in the class. It is an interesting class so I recommend everyone take it if you need it for your major.
The quizzes are easy if you read the material, 20 minutes isn't a lot of time but I found myself breezing through with several minutes left over after taking the time to read. I don't care for reading but this class is an easy A if you put in the time. I enjoyed the film assignment and environmental exercise due at the end of the semester.
Dr. DeMasi was a great professor and I highly recommend her! You definitely had to work for your grade but nothing too intense. She gave amazing feedback on each discussion board and assignments. The quizzes were right from the textbook and the assignments were interactive and exciting! Really enjoyed her class and her insightful comments.
I'm so thankful for the information that Professor DeMasi taught me! It's changed my view on the world. There's a lot of reading though and you get a test every chapter you read. Discussion board participation is a must. Overall, I would definitely encourage you to take this class.
This teacher is the best MCCC has to offer. If you have to take online take her and only her. Her class is organized and interesting. She makes you want to learn Sociology. I took the class over the summer so it was very quick but the material was very interactive and she is always participating and reaching out to students. Would take again.
Very disrespectful of students opinions that differed from her own. She routinely presented facts that supported by graphs that were outdated and wrong. Also, I remember one class where she taught off of a graph and analyzed it the complete opposite way that it was set up (i.e. she read the x and y axis the wrong ways). Very unprofessional.
I took the online Sociology course and I am glad I did. The teacher is interesting and the class is very organized. She has lots of videos and cool web assignments. She always answers email messages very fast. I like that she participated in the class and I could contact her with video office hours. You do need to read the book but it was easy.
You'll easily do well in Professor deMasi's class if you put in the work. Expected to post on discussion board throughout the week and there's a timed, open note quiz on a textbook chapter every week. If you read you'll be fine. I learned so much in this class and would highly recommend.
I had to take this class online due to Covid. It's not hard work, she doesn't give hard work. Be active on the discussion board and all that. However, you have to mildly be specific on something you can't answer the question just generally. If you share an opinion she will ask for facts and evidence that back up your opinion. Easy class though.
Very opinionated. If your opinion differs from hers she will get all over you. Need facts at all times and cannot use your opinion at all.. even though the syllabus says you can. Gives outdated information and her evidence is just graphs and charts.
Love love love this class. You need to time on researching discussion board posts and conversing with the other students. The book is a must but it is easy and interesting. I wish she taught other classes too.
I liked this class. Prof. DeMasi was clear with what it took to do well in her online class, and if you take the time and contribute/do the readings, you will succeed. I learned a lot and the discussions are actually interesting and helpful. The quizzes can be tough, but if you do the readings and take notes, they are pretty straightforward.
Online for Rona. You don't have to agree to pass, you have to participate. Get the book to do well on quizzes and get involved on the discussion board.
I really looked forward to starting my week doing the discussion boards and sharing ideas and what I learned. The textbook was really eye opening and I just loved this course! She was really caring and kind and sensitive to all our personal experiences and walks of life. Loved this teacher and course.
I was scared to take the class but it was awesome. She knows her stuff and I learned so much I did not know about. I wish she taught more classes. She is not like other online teachers. She actually is in the class with you every week. You have to read the book and do the work but it is worth it.
Taking the 101 Summer class now. Easiest class ever that she makes fun and interesting with lots of interactive exercises that I really liked. I love the teacher and the book is not bad either. There are quizzes but you get 3 chances to take them so its easy to do well. If you have to take this class take it with this teacher.
Worst professor. She could care less about her students. Makes you write 3 LENGTHY discuss. board posts each week. Very tough grader no matter how well you think you did on both DB posts and other assignments. DOESNT let u make up tests at all. Crazy. Doesnt really teach just makes u read articles the whole semester. Honestly a waste of money
I have taken 3 classes with this professor. I wish she taught more courses. She is the best. Her course is organized and easy to follow. If you do the assignments you will get a good grade plus the class is so interesting. She makes it fun.
Course consists of discussion boards, quizzes and a writing project. She is really clear and organized which I appreciate. Pretty easy class and some times interesting too. She answers emails right away.
She is very opinionated and does not want to hear anyone's opinions that differ from her own. She is a very harsh grader and no matter how much you participate or make changes that she suggests she finds other ways to take points off. She does not give clear directions on assignments. I would not recommend taking her class whatsoever!
The content of the course was very interesting, even for an asynchronous class. I do think that her grading is wack. Discussion posts are rated 0-4, and not once did I get a perfect 4 over 12 different discussion posts (highest was a 3.8). Never understood what more I could have done. Easy class and is forgiving with her other grades (ex. quizzes)
I did not want to take this class but I really ended up loving it. It was a short summer class but it was easy. The grading is fair and the assignments are very interesting and do not take a lot of time. Quizzes are open book. No tests. I would say take this class with her if you have to take into SOC.
Easy class. At the end of the class she drops the lowest grades. I thought my grade was going to be lower than it was but she is very easy at the end of the semester. Just do the weekly posts and you will be fine. If you have the option take her. Very clear grading and assignments. Easy to follow.
Just finished my summer online class. If you need an easy A then this is the teacher to take the class with. I hardly read the book, the quizzes are all open book, and she gives a lot of extra credit to bring up your grade at the end. Easy class to bring up your GPA. Highly recommend.
Demasi's class is very informative. I learned a lot from the course. her course is very opinion based. but if your views don'tmatch up to her's your grade will show it. Also if you're taking her course online it is mandatory to respond to every post on blackboard or you will not pass her class.
She was never happy with anything I wrote on the discussion boards. If you didn't mention the specific thing she was looking for after asking the class a broad question, she'd take points off. She also mentions to not say the same thing as other people but then takes points off when you have a different opinion so no matter what, you can't win.
Enjoyed the quick 7 week class this fall. It is all online. You have to post regularly and take a quiz every week but it is so easy to pass this class. I would tell everyone to take this professor if you have a choice. The book is also easy to read and there is not much reading or work in the class. An easy grade.
Professor is boring and the discussion boards require too much information. If you mention something that doesn't align with the professor she blasts you on the DB. Grading criteria is ridiculous if you don't post a detailed DB you won't get a perfect grade. Dreaded the class for the entire semester. Do not recommend!
Super class. I wish they were all like this. Post to the board and take a quiz each week. Easy A and good information.
This is my second class back in college after getting sober. The workload is unfair, instructions are unclear, and she is a very harsh grader. She expects students to read several chapters in one day and takes points off if you don't answer open ended questions with exactly what she wants. Can't wait until it's over. Makes me want a drink.
I loved the class and the teacher. It is interesting and pretty easy if you keep up with the discussion. Not much work involved. If you need an A this is the only soc class to take.
The professor is very easy going. Answers all concerns very quickly. There is a lot of reading and participation but overall easy class. Quiz every week that is right out of the book. One paper at the end. Not bad. I wish she taught more classes.
Actually the worst. Will give great reviews then give you like a C or D. Is impossible to contact because her email does not work. Instructions are trash. Makes every day much different and never gives any A's because she thinks you have to be some genius. As somebody who is a guest and goes to a good school don't take her.
I took the Social Problems class as an elective and I am happy I did. Lots of discussion board. No tests or quizzes but one paper at the end that I liked doing because I got to choose the topic. The book is an open source so no money for that makes this a 100% class to take if you need an easy grade and have an elective.
Tough grader her class is hard
BEWARE!!!
heavy workload and very tough grader.
Professor deMasi gives clear instructions and is organized. There are weekly discussion boards that count as attendance as well as an overall understanding and expansion on the weekly reading. At first didn't give feedback, but I emailed her asking to give me feedback and after that she did and I was able to get an A in her class because of it.
I took the class because it was required but I ended up really liking it. It is an organized class but you have to participate every week. Otherwise it was easy. I would take more classes with this teacher if possible.
I am only in the second week of intro to soc and am completely overwhelmed. She has unrealistic expectations of community college students. She doesn't realize some people that are attending community college have to work full time and cannot handle this work load/is extremely unfair in this regard.
Criticizes your work based on HER opinions rather that grading your answer. Flagged several of my hand typed work as "AI" and refused to understand that I did it myself. Awful teacher.
You have to get used to her participation requirements but otherwise it was a very easy class. Only 1 paper at the end and discussion boards. Will take her for another class next semester. Don't get behind and you will be ok.
Professor deMasi has clear instructions, but can be a tough grader. Participation is key, and Unstuck AI helped me stay on top of the demanding discussion boards. Overall, an interesting class if you put in the work.
Professor Demasi is very straight forward. Her classes are reading HEAVY, but as long as you keep up with the work you will be fine. I do enjoy her teaching style as far as helping us retain the information. We learn it first from reading, secondly on a quiz, thirdly on the discussion boards.
Great class. I was not interested at first to take this class but she made it interesting. You have to keep up with the work due dates and there are weekly quizzes but overall I would take it again.
My experience with this professor was like no other. I am a student at another university, and I took this class online. This professor has been challenging and disrespectful. She has openly told me to drop the class several times because "its too much work for you" meanwhile I am a 4.0 honors student so a online intro class is not to much work.
This professor was a pain. She would take of .5 pts for simple errors, which in a class that is made up of 100 points is a lot. Would say use the text more but then said it was too much when using the text. Forced to use google docs so if you don't like google don't take the class.
Demasi was the worst this i took her at montco online sociology 101 she accused me of ai when it was all human and you must write all work including discussions in google docs. She is a very tough grader never giving me full credit on ANY discussion. She has 20 question quizzes for 20 min every week. I would NEVER take her again
This professor was something. She started the class by telling me that I "You have signed up for a 3 credit class. Since this is an accelerated 7 week class that comes to 18 hours per week. I suggest you drop the class and consider retaking it when you do have the time." Does anyone else have any 3 credit classes that take 18 hours a week?
By all means Take this class it's supper easy you are judged of your opinions in discussions. She yells through her messages. facts are based off charts from google from years ago. 20 questions 20 min quizzes sometimes aren't the material that you go over. accuses you of using AI EVEN after having the proof in google docs that your forced to use.
This teacher gives 20 mins to answer 20 questions. Her assignments are like mazes that you have to navigate and figure out what posts to make. Online summer classes should consist of more assignments that are also difficult and can be completed/submitted reasonably. These assignments involve going back and fourth responding to the same posts.
I loved the class so much. It took some getting used to posting rules but then it's really easy. If you don't get an A then you are doing something wrong. There is a quiz every week on the book and then you need to post on the discussions.
Easy A for sure, but if you hate posting on discussion boards, this might not be your favorite. She's still one of the nicest profs out there. Ai helped me write everything and she didn't seem to mind.
Super chill class. Sometimes I wished for a bit more variety, but she's so nice I didn't care. AI-friendly and very easy to get an A.
Easiest A on campus. Literally. If you can post on a discussion board and write a few paragraphs, you're golden. She's also a genuinely kind person who seems to care about her students. Doesn't care if you use AI (which I did a few times) and that made things even easier.
Professor is interesting and easy. Really you have to make sure you post according to the rules but if you do that you will pass no problem. Quizzes are easy too. I liked the book for the class and you do have to buy it.
in my opinion she's grading unfair and thinks like it's the most important subject in your whole career choice. Don't choose her
