AWFUL!! She doesn't bother to write her own test questions; they are from a test bank that came with the textbook. Questions are HARD, random, and often ambiguous. Her lecture is completely unhelpful. AVOID!!
HORRIBLE TEACHER! DOESN'T TEACH, LECTURE IS NO HELP SO DON'T BOTHER GOING. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS UNLESS YOU WANT TO WASTE A THOUSAND DOLLARS!
She covered everything from the textbook. She saved me lots of reading time. Also, she gave BIG CURVES to tests. I would love to have her again.
Dr. Passy is lectures straight out of the book its impossible to take notes at the rate she lectures, not to mention her accent. Im sure that she would be a great prof. for upper level bio classes but for an intro or freshman class its best to just save your money and get a different prof.
Like said she lectures straight from the book, but if you go to class and listen that saves you time. She also puts HUGE curves on the tests which help a lot. Nothing is a surprise bc its straight from the book. If you want to learn on your own she is your teacher.
tests straight from book, big curves, not helpful with real learning
Exams are critical thinking, goes too fast. Suit for upper level of teaching, true big fat curve but not really good at teaching because its like she reads from the sildes. Lecture is not that important if you read the book on your own. Better to take some other professor.
DO NOT TAKE HER! BY THE TIME YOU GET OUT OF THAT CLASS, YOU WILL KNOW LESS THAN BEFORE YOU ENTERED THAT CLASS
My Advice? RUN!!! Do not take her class
She lectures straight form the book, and her tests are hard. She is also form a foreign country so you cannot understnd what she is saying. DO NOT TAKE HER, YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!
She's difficult to understand/follow. She taught straight from the book, going to class may have been a waste of time. Stay up the reading - read before going to class, and prepare questions to ask; she likes that. It may be that I'm just not that smart, but I thought she didn't teach very well. and I found her to be intimidating.
She lectures straight from the book, and she does have an accent. I didn't feel that it was that difficult to understand her (accent and lecture). Her test did require you to understand the material and be able to apply it to different situations. If criticial thinking test aren't your thing I would not suggest you to take her class.
Originally from Bulgaria, Dr. Passy has a mild accent, yet that certainly doesn't stop her from talking in an excruciating monotone!! She reads from her little power-point presentation EVERY lecture and you'll feel coming to class is a major waste of time. Your ticket to learning in this class WILL BE the textbook. She's civil during office hours.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS... I am sure any other professor will be better. But if you end up in her class forget about going to the lectures SI session help more and study 4rm the book
Worst Bio teacher ive ever had, i had to drop out the class because she basicly did not teach anything. reading the book was a must. she gives curves but once you get your test back you will see why she does! The tests were not her own, they were departmental, making it harder. im taking bio again with Westmoreland and making a B in her class.
She gives a huge curve on every test and you don't even need to go to class, just read the textbook. If you do go to class, you are wasting your time because all she does is read from her powerpoint, so you might as well sleep in there.
Dr. Passy is hard, true, but she really makes you a hero if you get A's (I got 110 % in her class because of curves) and is an excellent person to ask for evaluations if you did good in her class. She has these teenager students (11 and 12) who she talks about in the beginning of the semester and they scored REALLY HIGH in the class.
Take her if you are ready for some self- education. She is not your High school freshman bio teacher. Many will say class is a waste, but it helps to know what she thinks is important. Plus, she puts up the slides online now. They're loong, but helpful. DO NOT wait for the last minute to study for the test. She likes to talk about Algae a lot:)
Going to class is absolutely worthless. She teaches straight from a powerpoint which is basically straight from the textbook. I highly recommend reading or taking the online quizzes on the campbell biology web site. The tests are pretty hard. The only way to get an A is to study like crazy or do really well in lab. Take another prof.
she is the best professor ever! everything she says is in the exam so listen carefully. she is also very nice and is always willing to help her students out.
I wouldn't recommend her. Her class is difficult. You bascially have to teach urself. Going to class is useless. Take someome else.
Her class is very tough. There are about 3 tests so each one is at least 6+ chapters to study for. You should go to SI and teach yourself from the book instead of going to class. On our first test, the class average was a D and she will not curve. Be prepared to study your life away if you want a good grade in her class.
Take someone else, worst bio prof at uta. Hard class to pass. Must read the book.
Very hard lady to understand..Not very approachable. Hardest exams, not easy to pass at all. Take someone else, because their probably better than her. Class not mandotary at all, u'll probably do better by studying than going to her class. STUDY THE BOOK, PAY ATTENTION TO DETAILS..
This class is difficult. She lectures straight from powerpoints that are pretty much word for word from the book. She has a mild accent, and is very monotonus. You have to go to SI and read the book on your own. Class average was a D, and she did not curve. TAKE ANOTHER PROFESSOR!!!
Dear goodness!! Professor Passy's problem id that she is TOO smart, so she can't dumb the material down enough for students to understand. The only good thing about her class is that her accent is fun. Maybe Romanian? Russian? Anyway I just failed a test so maybe I'm just ranting.
Many have said that she is hard, but personally, I feel she is a great professor. She definately knows her material, and she takes the time to answer our questions. It's just a matter of whether we ask questions or not. She helps you tremendously 1 on 1. Her exams are very straightforward. She doesn't try to trick you on the exams, but study.
The only reason I took her class is because I had no choice. If you don't have a choice either, the best way to get a good grade (or evenn pass) is to read, read, and reread the text book. Also, make sure to have access to the online study guide associated with the book, it helps tremendously. & SI sessions are offered, they're helpful as well.
if this is your first semester of college you most definitely SHOULD NOT take her, but if you do want to learn how to study well you probably should. you need to learn how to sit with your book hours on end and memorize every single word
Do not take this professor. You will teach yourself. No dropped test grades. No reviews. No point going to class. She just reads the slides to you. No explanation whatsoever. If she is the only one left, take it next semester.
This year, she switched it up ALOT. She gave us study guides for each chapter, and the questions were WORD FOR WORD on the exams. She did this because in the previous years, people failed the tests. Aslo a big plus: attendance is not required and the slides she teaches with are available online. If you don't make an A, it's your own fault.
best prof ive ever had easy but you can learn a lot. You get all questions with answers to look over before the test- so theres no excuse to not get A's on her tests. You dont have to read the book or stress just memorize the question/answers. If you are scared of Bio, take her. If you cant pass her class you are lazy and dont belong in college.
she's a little weird but she's very nice. EASY A! attendance is not mandatory, she posts power points online and gives "study guides" that are test questions with the correct answer. she picks 50 questions from those study guides for the test. all you have to do is be able to recognize the correct answer.
TAKE THIS CLASS!! She gives you 50 questions from each chapter with the correct answer. When test date comes she gets 50 from 7 chapters. I didnt even need my text book
HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Study each chapter review questions because she will pick a select few and use them word for word on the test! After the first day I never showed up except midterm days. Pulled out with an A but I did really study for it. The final is comprehensive, not too bad. Take her!
She knows her stuff but it is hard for her to explain things in more understandable terms. You will doing a lot of reading from the textbook it you don't understand her lectures. Well you will get lost in her lectures if you don't read the book.
The tests weren't bad because she gives you the exact questions and answers!! but the lectures were hard to follow and didn't help with the tests.
She gives a 50 question review for each chapter and uses questions directly from the review on her exams. This is a huge help, but you still must take time to study ahead of test time. She seemed to have a hard time breaking down concepts to make them easy to understand in lecture. All lecture slides are provided. She does not use Blackboard.
TAKE HER! The easiest class ever! Just study the questions, that's exactly what's on the tests.
Easiest of an A you will come by for BIOL 1441 at UTA. Passy posts THE exam q's AND a's for Every exam & even tells you that. Attending lectures are irrelevant regarding your lecture grade but for serious science majors, attending is a good idea-she explains concepts well. Down side-it's @ 5:30 & you won't learn much biol but easy A is worth it!
Do not take this professor. You will teach yourself.
Her class and it is very tough! There are 3 exams and one final. She drops one exam and the final is worth 50% of your grade. Unless you read the chapter before class you will be very lost during lecture. She does give review questions but there are also questions that are not on the test there. You will be reading and studying a lot to pass!
She used to give the reviews out with the answers and the test questions were word for word. Well this semester she changed everything without even telling us. Most people failed the very first test. She has an accent and is hard to understand. Also, she goes through the content VERY quickly. Very easy to get lost in this class. Horrible class.
Man.... don't take her biology 1441 class... most confusing and hardest professor in UTA tho.....
RIDICULOUS&difficult to understand. She gave out reviews saying "study these,KNOW THEM" But only uses maybe 15 questions. Even when she does use them the answers given are not always right. She argued with the ENTIRE class. No help what so ever. Just says read the book and slides. Tests are terrible. Gave ONE curve because the average was 30%. RUN
Worst biology teacher at UTA!! Her lectures do not correlate with her tests whatsoever. She doesn't even write her own tests wait, she takes questions from the test bank, and makes them even more complicated and confusing than they already are. U wont know what to expect on her tests or what to study for. If you dont want to fail DO NOT TAKE HER!!
She is the worst biology teacher at UTA.!!!! NEVER EVER take her class.
She was one of the easiest biology teachers at UTA. Her final exam was worth 50% of your grade, but it was actually the easiest exam that I've ever taken. And I'm not so smart but I actually got an A on it.
do not take this professor!! her tests aren't correlated with what she teaches!
Tests didn't match basically anything. Read the book for two weeks prior, and you still barely get a C (curve included). I wouldn't recommend, if you do take her, good luck.
She will just read her slides which are from the book so she is basically reading the book. I read only the REVIEW QUESTIONS and got a B. Dont take her class if you want to understand biology. and if you have already taken her class, REVIEW QUESTIONS is the key for you to get through this class.
Study the review questions and look over her PowerPoint slides!
Extremely boring lecture. She just read out the PowerPoint. She is willing to answer students' questions. Final grade is only based on exams.
Kind of hard to understand. Slides aren't very detailed. Wants you to be way more detailed when you answer in class than possible. Only grades are test. Technology challenged.
Dr. Passy is a nice professor that has great knowledge of biology. However, the class can be boring as she only reads off her PowerPoint, but will ask students to answer her questions and show animation, and have clicker session occasionally before end of class. Textbook isn't too necessary as her slides pretty much excerpted from textbook.
She gives the most boring lectures ever! It's honestly a challenge trying to stay awake during her class. When you do pay attention she'll just give way too much information and when you ask her whether it'll be on the test she'll usually tell you no
Terrible biology professor. Her lectures do not help you with tests. All I can say to you is that reading the actual book was more helpful then coming to her class and listening to her lecture.
Reads off of lecture slides and gets off topic most lectures. She loves to talk about algae.
Dr. Passy is a nice professor that is willing to stay and answer questions or in her office hour. However, the exams can be hard and the final is really hard with 100 questions that are 5% from the previous tests. She drops lowest exam grade other than exam and those are all you get points from. A lot of independent study is expected.
Dr. Passy is a nice teacher. However, she only reads off her powerpoint excerpted from textbook, but occasionally asks students to answer what she went over previously and clicker questions at the end. Her lecture does not really help with the exams, especially the extremely hard final. Heavy Independent study with curve is what helped me pass.
Tsets were very specific but the book has all the answers. She's funny and a good lecturer. Attendance helps
I had to drop. I had a 4.0 GPA before her and never had to drop anything before. I did not learn in this class.
Very hard class. Dr. Passy's lecture will not help with the tests but attendance is mandatory. Additionally, you will have a lot of trouble trying to figure out your grade because of all of the components.
All exams in this course are department which is SUPER HARD! but her lecture helped nothing. I studied her PPT and failed but I passed when I studied the textbook. iclicker every end of class and it's only 8% but could help your grade.
God awful lecturer, it's even worse that attendance is mandatory for a class that really has no confusing concepts. I think the only reason I made an A is because everyone else is so dumb the curves were huge. I took the class before they changed up the system and added things.
Absolutely exceptional teacher. Very knowledgeable on the subject of biology. Is not in the business of mind reading, if you are confused its your responsibility to ask question. Previous comments are from unmotivated student who didnt value the concept of hard work. Please disregard. Prepare for class. Be proactive and take studying seriously!!!
Reading the textbook is essential to passing. Biology overall is notorious for its high drop out rate. This being my second time taking Biology, I really appreciate her power points and lectures. She creates PowerPoint lectures that pull points off of the book, tells interesting stories, and has clicker sessions at the end that are graded.
Attendance is not required but daily clicker questions are given. She's really smart however she has a really hard time explaining the material in a way that the students can understand. The class is a weekly 3 hours of lecture 1 hour of recitation and 2 hours of lab, with 2 online quizzes each week.
I taught myself more than Passy has taught me. However, she is knowledgeable over BIO so I'll give her that. Textbook is REQUIRED (if you want an A in the class) because the department is derived from it. SI sessions help tremendously. 3 hour labs once/wk, and 2 online quizzes a week. You can't be a good professor with this course, anyways.
Her lectures can be boring at times, nothing really wrong with her because most things are set by the department (test, iClickers) . However i would chose Clark over her if its still an option for future students.
Her powerpoint are great. She can be difficult to understand but overall a good professor.
If you read the book and come to lecture, youll be fine. Shes better than the other bio professors at UTA
She is a good prof but lectures can be boring and you may zone out but her lectures is filled with TONS of information that you need to know, she sometimes gives answers to questions on tests if you pay attention. Tests are departmental so at the end of the semester they curve your overall grade.
This class is easy and you need to show up because she takes a participation grade everyday. It is lecture heavy but everything she teaches is on the exam, she also has a review in class, which helps a lot! Her power points are also very helpful. But also make sure to read the book since that's what the exams are based on.
Lecture is a waste of time because she reads from the power point verbatim. If you take her class sit near the front because her voice doesn't carry to back. No echo 360. Also, she once gave us a review the day of the exam and it had literally nothing related to the actual test. All you need to do is read the book and go over recitation manual.
She explains things well but often goes onto information beyond the class level. attendance is mandatory or else you lose points. Tests are COMPLETELY out of the book and difficult. genuinely cares about you and wants to help but the class is hard
I recommend taking this course only if you have to. I am a bio major and I definitely had to work for my grade. This course is departmental meaning all bio 1441 students take the same tests no matter who your prof is (final included). Passy is a good option, she knows her stuff and has reliable slides.
Attendance was 5% of your grade, but it was a waste of time going to class. Her slides and lecture were poor. What was taught in class was unclear or unnecessary for the exams. You pretty much had to teach yourself everything. I relied heavily off of recitation. She gave a huge curve at the end likely due to so many failed final exam grades.
She has a heavy accent, is hard to understand, and isn't a great speaker. I made an A but that's because I payed attention to the topics she discussed then went back and read them out of the book. If you only want to pass, her lectures are probably enough but if you want to make an A then you have to read the book.
Like all college courses, you will need to either do the readings or go to lecture to pass. Dr. Passy's powerpoints are all summaries/definitions, almost word for word, of the textbook and she emphasizes things that will be on the test and neglects things in the textbook that we don't need on the exam. Goes over exam questions in "activities."
Dr. Passy is an amazing and caring professor. She gives great feedback on your tests and performance. Make sure to visit her office hours for questions and make use of her very detailed slides.
TAKE HER. She is so sweet and helpful. Very thick accent but she truly loves biology and wants students to succeed. Just study her powerpoints front and back and you can make an A if you put the effort in
idk why her reviews are so bad, this class just sucks but I promise you she is probably the best one that teaches 1441 at uta. I would skip my prof's lectures and go to hers just bc she's so good. all I would do are take notes on the powerpoints and review those notes and finished off with a B+. If you show up to lecture you will do fine
This class is too easy. Just read her presentation and the textbook (which is free) you'll pass this class easily.
i took this class with dr passy in fall 2020 during covid. attendance wasn't mandatory but I would DEFINITELY recommend going to her lectures as they are extremely helpful. dr passy is such a sweet person and very knowledgeable. don't be afraid to reach out and ask questions!! i got an A by going to lecture and reading the e-textbook.
So because of covid her lecture was optional to attend online or in person. Dr. Passy knows what she's talking about and is a good professor. However, the class itself is just really hard. There is a lot of information to absorb. A LOT. The textbook is free and take advantage of her office hours she'll be happy to help & make things clear
Took Dr. Passy during Fall of 2020, I highly recommend she doesnt give hw and only 4 test(3test, 1 final). She does in class activities which are questions you can expect to see on the test but she makes sure to explain it and how to solve it. Someone mentioned her accident, its an exaggeration its very clear and understandable.
Dr. Passy is a nice professor and her class is way too easy. Her accent is not thick at all, she's easy to understand and willing to help. I just studied the powerpoints and quizzes and got an easy A.
Lectures were hard to follow because she moves fast and it's information overload. She does offer online tutoring and will explain during class, but that's it. If you email her with questions she just tells you to go to her tutoring. I hated this class so much.
She's not the worst, but also not the best. I think she's very caring and likes biology a lot, however it's hard to really get something out of the class. It's difficult, but if you end up taking her because you have to, it won't be the end of the world.
decent professor, she clearly cares about biology but goes through the information very quickly and is a bit confusing. you have to study a LOT for this course as your grade is mainly made up of tests. the course itself is pretty hard imo as theres a lot of info to absorb. passy is definitely not a bad professor though she just goes a bit too fast
She is knows her stuff but this class is hard. Lectures are long/taught through very quickly. Three exams make up your entire grade. Quizzes are worth 10% which will do nothing for your grade unless you don't do them. I passed this class with videos attached to modules and knowing how to do everything on the review before the exam! STUDY THE REVIEW
