Very good lectures, helpful and very approachable...helps that 613 has no final!
Tough but fair. She needs to lose the Michael Jackson glove when teaching.
She's ok in lecture, but she's strict in labs - but not as bad as Panar!
class was too easy. Should not be at a university
Very detail oriented and fussy
fussy marker, but lots of bonus marks = easy marks
excellent, well organized, knowlegable, fair, interactive
Best email address in the department

Made Discreet Math seems so clear and easy. Watch out for the final tho.

...but the lab marking scheme is available ahead of time so y'all got no excuse!

she is passionate about her work and helping you
dont bother going to class, you can learn it better yourself
one of the few CS professors who cares about students
great prof!! hard to find someone enjoy their work.
Why is she talking to university students as if she is talking to babies?
She talks in a younger cute manner to relate to students. But is real good
She's actually one of the best at Ryerson. a MMath graduate...that's pretty good
Realy cool! Likes her job!

Very nice prof. She really makes it clear whats going on.
The best at Rye!! We are soooo lucky to have such a compassionate prof
Very Good Prof!!!

Energetic, interesting and knows her stuff vey well!
She's the best math proffesor I've ever seen! Lectures are fun, explanations are clear.
SQUIGLEY!!! Caught half the class cheating and copying.. what a course!

Excellent teacher. I loved the course itself and TA'd it for three more years (would've been four if I could)
One of the most easy-going and passionate profs I've ever had. Easy to approach, talk to, ask questions. However, the course itself seems like jack sh*t, and doesn't really help to learn anything. Too bad she's not a com sci prof, but a math prof.
Very disorganised class, lectures are pointless, and you teach yourself VB. Why I took this course? Thats a question I will be asking myself for years.

Awesome math teacher. Nice and energetic making class fun. Unlike others, she actually has some class participation. Her handouts are very helpful, although i'm not sure if she creates them. I use her MTH207 notes for calc eventhough she's not my prof.
very good teacher
Such a pationate teacher... she really cares about the course and the students. You can really tell she likes math jeje... she makes math easier and is really good at explaining things
Great at explaning lectures. Not boring at all.
She was horrible! The course load was too much! Even for her cuz she couldn't do her own assignments and everyone found errors with her last version of them! She picked at the smallest things to complain and deduct marks! Wasn’t helpful! told my team member not to argue with her when she couldn't win the discussion!(I thought universities were foun
First of all, she is not a proferssor. (doesn't have PH.D) Second of all, her own assignment had bugs and she expects us to do well on them Third of all, Her marks are consistent and has the most ridiculous excuses for not giving high marks. Forth of all, HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE.
She is a nice person but is extremely weak in communicating her knowledge. This was the first time she is teaching this course and it was very clear she was learning the material with us. Her expectations for assignments are highly unrealistic because she has never actually worked with the language she's trying to teach in class.
Amazing professor. Very enthusiastic with the course material and inspires you to learn during her class on a weekly basis. Her labs and projects are a lot of fun to work on. Everyone in the class enjoyed themselves thoroughly in her class. Her teaching methods are extraordinary and enjoyable. She is a very fair marker as well. I recommend her!
First time teaching Cannot explain and gets confused herself Textbook not that useful some labs are ridiculously, unclear instructions doesn't take up midterm or labs "This is trivial" but not to us students! sometimes she makes up stuff on the spot which is wrong during lecture when she could have said I don't know
She barely marks anything. You'll struggle to see more than 1/3rd the courses grades even beyond the final exam date.
This class is VERY difficult but also extremely rewarding. You learn valuable stuff. The labs took an extremely long time (14-15 hrs each) with Kattis. She overcomplicates things in lecture which makes it easy to get lost. Marks hard on the exams. We had TAs that actually wanted to be there which was a huge advantage.
The high-pitched way that she talks drives me insane. Instructions (for assignments or labs) are usually vague and poorly explained, she assumes students understand what she means with little effort on her part towards communicating her wishes. When we score poorly on the midterm or labs, she assumes it is our fault rather than her sub-par teaching
Doesn't know anything. You wont learn anything from her, She doesn't seem competent to even do her own labs, probably gets them from somewhere. . Butt hurt about life, Doesn't have a Phd. Hand waves proofs. Don't ever want her.
Quigley seems like a good prof at first, but under that facade there exists a monster that does not care about her students. During the last week of class, she announced that a majority of the class has received an Academic Integrity report, refusing to reply to ANY e-mails, including both protests with the report AND questions for the exam... k.
She manages to confuse herself while presenting simple examples during class, despite having prepared and taught this course for years. She does not care about her students, and does not produce any research. She does not belong in this position.
She is the worst prof Ive ever had. Ive gone to her office hours for extra help sometimes & she gets flustered if I dont understand right away. I also get extra help from a PhD student in the subject & I still receive low grades despite his help. I dont receive ANY feedback on her assessments, just a mark w no explanation. By far the WORST prof
Sophie is extremely incompetent and feeds her ego by marking her student unnecessarily hard. She is malicious, vindictive, and not mention, EXTREMELY disorganized. She gets flustered easily and doesnt care about students. The WORST prof at Ryerson and she should not be in the position she is right now. Sophie doesnt even have her PhD.
At first she appears to be a decent professor but it starts to become obvious that she doesn't prepare much for the course. Constantly makes mistakes during lecture, weirdly stops replying to e-mails (noted among many people), heavy workload (2 midterms, 3 assignments) yet barely any feedback or marks returned before final exam. Sadly disappointed.
1 assignment marked less than 2 weeks before the exam. Crowdmark job on assignment was poor. 2nd assignment hasn't been marked. 1 more assignments left...2nd midterm hasn't even been marked. Disappointed...
Honestly surprised by the amount of negative feedback here. She is very knowledgeable and always willing to clarify, including after class. There is a lot of work (labs can be long) but I find them helpful to learn concepts. As others have said she can be somewhat disorganized but overall I really enjoyed the class.
Shes tough, slides arent that clear, gotta study on your own if you want to pass!
Overall a good professor. Even if you stay at home instead of go to lectures (which you shouldn't do) Most of the material is online and is pretty straightforward. Lots of class work usually though, and not always the easiest
She was a really great prof for CPS 613 (but be warned her other courses that aren't that good). The way she taught this course was very interesting and I enjoyed going to her lectures, she seems very enthusiastic about human-computer interaction. Mostly group work building up to the final project but it's not hard to get a good mark.
On the competent half of Ryerson's compsci profs. Very enthusiastic and savy. Really easy to talk to in her office. Biggest downfall is getting flustered/carried away during lectures. Compilers is a tough topic. DO NOT TAKE BEFORE CPS615 - everyone who didn't have it dropped. Final project (building a compiler) is huge. Exam is tough but fair.
she's the worst. gives so many assignments and isn't flexible on due dates at all. midterms are far harder than anything we did in class or in the textbook. she really doesn't care about student's well being at all
Her slides/handouts are semi-illiterate and she does not care for the well-being of students at all. The assignments were not representative of what we did in class at all. She's simply a poor prof. Except for Mason, she is the worst CS prof at Ryerson. Very disappointed in her
Worst lectures, worst assignments, no planning; she tries her best but unfortunately it's not nearly anything you could praise
The only issue I see with her is that she makes errors sometimes. It seems that the recent negative commenters just didn't do well in the class, which is not surprising as it covers a lot of math. Yes, there are a lot of assignments. Start them early, you'll be good. Don't count on being able to do them in a couple of days. Give your brain time.
Sophie for cps420 was terrible, not only where her assignments extremely confusing and difficult to do, her midterms and finals were also challenging. You need to go above and beyond and really understand the concepts to do well with her. I found this unfair since we already have a lot of studying/coding on our plates. BEWARE !!
A lot of the assignments in this course are hand written, either I did really well or really crappy and her feedback was vague. The course is very interesting however, Sophie isn't the best prof. It's manageable to do unlike cps420, you have to learn the new visual basics on your own, she will not teach you how to code at all. Lectures are useless
Marking style of 710 is completely different than getting a certain percentage to pass (be sure to understand the marking system or you might screw yourself over). Go to her office hours early in the semester. Talk to her, she will do her best to help and give you opportunities to regain marks lost. I would assume online makes it a bit easier.
Her assignments are insane. Truly makes you have a meltdown or two and you still won't figure it out. Will never make it easier on her students. Okay tests though. Avoid at all costs. Don't come within a few metres of this lecturer. You WILL regret it.
She's a nice lady and seems like she really knows the stuff she's teaching, but she's just not a good teacher. Se goes way too fast and barely explains enough. her slides are not that simple either and she just reads off them in class. But again, she seems nice
Avoid her at all costs, take it next year, and hope that the professor switches.
Just stay away. Probably the worst lecturer you'll ever have.
Prof. Quigley is one of the best professors I've ever had. Very organized, posts all lecture videos and materials. She makes sure everyone understands the material before moving on. She is very considerate, i.e. understands that it takes time to scan and upload an exam. Both exams were reasonable, assignments are difficult but plenty time provided.
This professor is very unclear in her teaching style and the lectures are often very vague, in our course she had an obsession with towers of Hanoi and half our grade was based on that and she didn't even teach or give us examples to understand or get help from in her assignments all her assignments are too much work for what its worth.
good prof, talks fast sometimes but goes back and explains if people are confused or if she feels she went too fast. assignments are tuff but ur given lots of time and midterm felt simple because of the practice from assignments alone.
She is a great professor. She is really sweet and cares about her students. Very considerate. She also teaches nicely and is always there for everyone. Her assignments were overwhelming though but her exams are fair.
Set up a very organized course. Always knew when to expect things from lectures to assignments to tests right from day one. Her assignments were challenging but all doable with some effort as the class averages on them prove. Her lectures aren't superb with the pace she goes at but her slides make up for it. Overall, great prof.
Flip of a coin for this course, if you got a good group you will do very well on the project(s) (majority of the class is projects). She is accessible through office hours, but takes 3+ days to respond to your emails. Final exam is all opinion based, it didn't feel like it was testing your knowledge of the topics in the course.
Dr. Quigley provides well thought out lectures with passion and drive, and engages with interactive content. As well, she does not subscribe to the common concept of "knowledge = memorization", and allowed us to have a single double-sided crib sheet for both the midterm and the final to test our application and not simply our ability to memorize.
Decent prof! Very knowledgeable on topics and can explain concepts clearly. The only thing I'd change would be the weekly labs to make them bi-weekly instead. The labs can take quite a long time to complete and are difficult - but they are great for exam practice!
Compared to previous years, this year's final exam was extremely tough and different!
I want to give a higher rating because she was nice as a person but her lectures are her reading the slide and saying it's easy, the midterm was doable but the exam was awful. You could not have studied for the exam, nothing was from her lectures or past exams. And her only response was "You had enough time to solve it" so yeah save yourself.
Her final exam was brutal. Nothing like past year finals. The labs are also extremely annoying, time consuming and complex. Didn't learn much from this course overall tbh. Although this is a CPS course, it's literally 99% math-based.
Midterm decent. Exam was just awful. Why did she make it harder than past exams? :(
Failed almost everyone with the finals.
Labs were already challenging and demanded considerable time but the final exam was harder. Despite being allocated 3 hours, it wasn't enough. The fact that nearly everyone remained in the exam hall at the end of the 3 hours speaks for itself. I wanted to give a higher rating because she was nice throughout the semester but it is what it is.
she was unfair
Bro, ong this course is so disorganized. Just to keep up I had to check D2L everyday. lectures were reading off a slide show. The only thing about her is that shes nice, thats it. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE WITH HER. Given shes nice, she did not give me extra marks or any way to boost my mark.
She cares about the students, made the class easier than it is
The final exam was very unfair and hard for the students.
Going into that first lab felt like red-light-green-light in squid game, and I had no idea what was in store. Absolutely brutal labs. Midterm was fair, final was a different story (shown by the 50% average). I don't think the textbook problems helped prepare, and past finals had no solutions. Made it in the end, but her course wasn't a light one
The labs were so hard.
Great professor, her lecture material wasn't the easiest to wrap your head around, but she made great efforts to make sure that she gave as in depth and explanation as possible. Course is similar to MTH 110, in the way that you need to stop and think about how to represent a problem for a good while before you actually write it. Would take again.
