You pretty much have to go to every class to understand the material. Exams every one to two weeks, with a make-up for both the first four exams and the second four exams (eight total). Pretty interesting, but quite a bit of work just for those exams.
The tests were ridiculously easy. You could get by without the textbook and get an A if you went to every class and paid attention. She posts study guides with everything that will be on the test and page numbers for where to find the information. I wish she allowed for more discussions and projects/essays instead of just multiple choice tests.
Dr. Rubin is a great teacher and is easy to listen to. She always had interesting stories that kept me awake. The only negative I see is the way the tests are written. A lot of the questions are double negative or written in a way like she is trying to trick you into putting the wrong answer. But she is a helpfull, nice teacher.
I took this online. Expectations were really clear. "Study objectives" are very tedious, but they make you review the material so you are ready for the week's quiz. No big exams, just little multiple choice tests (25 Qs) at the end of each week. Some of the videos she has the class watch are really interesting, which helps in an online course.
Great professor. Loved her.
You will need to put in hours of studying to get a good grade in this online class. When i had a question the professor responded same day. Very time consuming class with a lot of homework to complete. I've never had so much work for one class in my entire college career. Seems quite excessive for being a 3 credit course, in my opinion.
This is a rather easy class. You learn about some interesting stuff. Just review the study objectives before the test (study, not just review) and you're good to go. Gives a couple extra credit opportunities. Will only reply to your school email. No drinks during the tests & won't let you leave during them & makes you turn your hat backwards.
Doctor Rubin certainly knows her psychology! She is easy to listen to and gives a lot of information in her power points. Her exams can be somewhat difficult but overall if you study you'll do pretty good. For my class we had to use iclickers, which was helpful. She really wants to see her students succeed.
Dr. Rubin was the best professor at had at GRCC. Exams are frequent and tough, but they aren't too bad if you pay attention in class. She explains everything you need to know and makes it interesting too.
Great professor! She's very helpful on how you should study for exams. Very strict with cell phones. If you are 5 minutes late for class, good luck trying to get in.
She is a very nice lady. She is organized and very helpful.
Wonderful teacher! She explains things with real life examples and it makes it easier to understand concepts. Would recommend her to anyone!
This class was the second most frustrating course I have taken in my 5 semesters at GRCC. Dr. Rubin expects 9 to 12 hours of homework. I received half credit for many of my 5-page study objectives for not bolding the question. She nitpicks video assignments as well as discussion board questions. Killed my GPA. Only for the highly motivated.
Dr. Rubin is very intelligent. If you attend all the lectures you will get an extra 10 points. Also she has a few extra credit lecture opportunities throughout the semester. She provides study objective sheets. Make sure you know the study objectives! 20 questions online exam
This woman is horrible for an online class. She creates a lot of busy work and acts as though you do not have a life. Avoid at all costs.
Prof Rubin has no sense of how much work she gives you. She expects each assignment to be to her meticulous specifications or you will lose out. If you are thinking about taking an online class with her don't!
Expect extreme amounts of busy work. Expect to write endlessly for study objectives that have no impact on testing grade. Taught much more like a high school class than a college class. It would appear teacher spent more time insuring class would require 12 hours a week to complete assignments than concentrating on content.
Very hard expect way to much out of you a she very confusing.
She's a pro in the field, what else do you expect.
This "educator" is awful. She assigns far too much work that is irrelevant to the tests, takes weeks to provide grades or feedback, and her tests are full of typos and make no sense. I'm a 4.0 student and I get Bs on her tests, despite acing all of the practice quizzes. She really has no idea what she's doing.
She expects you to study 9-12 hours outside of class time and each class is a lecture. She lectures to fast and makes you sound stupid if you dare ask her a question. She only focuses on the way that helped her learn and makes you learn that way. Attendance is mandatory, tests are to many. Study objectives are not even relevant to the lectures. Bad
VERY strick no cellphone policy. which is alright. you have a total of 8 exams. every 2 lectures you have an exam over a minimum of 2 chapters. you can't afford to get behind.
If you do the work, you will get a good grade. I enjoyed the class, she used a lot of real life stories (that we watched in videos) to help us better understand the chapters. There is a lot of busy work, but as I said if you do it- you'll get a good grade.
I found Dr. Rubin to be an excellent psychology professor. I highly recommend her! Be prepared to work, and make sure you follow her instructions throughout the semester. If you keep up with the assignments, you should have no trouble getting a good grade in the class.
Just avoid at all costs! She is a sweet person, but there is way too much homework due in an unrealistic time frame.
Taking the online PSY 231 class has consumed my life. She has very specific expectations that are ridiculous and inconsistent. Her tests are not clear and related to the material. Be prepared to be tested on a percentage found in a margin of the book, not on the overall concepts. I have never felt the need to" rate my professor" until now.
Tough class but loved it.
This is my last semester as an undergrad, and I have never had a class with more busy work than this one. So many things due every week for 16 weeks. On top of so much work, she's a hard grader and I consistently get C's on everything besides tests and I am a 4.0 student. Would never take this class again with her online.
You basically sit and take notes while she reads off of a powerpoint. Great person and a wonderful Psychologist, but not so much a great professor.
Great class. Really interesting lectures. Some class activities. Professor really cares about students. One of the best teachers i have had.
Dr. Rubin is an Amazing Professor. Her expectations are clear, and if you work hard do assignment, and attend lectures, you will do well.
I took her online psych class. I have never done so poorly in such an easy class. She graded so harshly and the way things worked (as grading went) were not specified. I thought I was doing great in her class because I spent hours and hours on this class, studying and re-taking tests until I looked at my grades Not sure what I did wrong here.
too much home works, but you need to read materials (19 hours required)
Dr. Rubin gives out 4 exams a semester and lets you make up 2 of them without penalty. She gives out extra credit for perfect attendance and optional lectures. attendance is graded. mypsychlab is easy as she grades on completion and not accuracy. every class is a lecture and gives you study guides for each unit. only 3 papers total- accepts late.
Her lectures are very descriptive and helpful, but if you're not there for a day, you're screwed honestly. She goes pretty fast but she's very good at explaining everything and always answers questions
She is a very nice, down-to-earth lady with a great sense of humor. The course itself is hard and requires a lot of studying, but she is generous enough to allow two make-up tests. She does her part as the instructor, and you must do your part (do the work) to get a good grade.
I dreaded taking Psych, but needed to for my pre reqs and with her I actually enjoyed this class and did very well. Take ALL notes (no computers), graded from attendance, 3 small writing assignments, 4 exams-just read your notes and a final. Also multiple EC opportunities, DO THEM I got 30 points of EC overall. Very helpful and knowledgeable
Nice teacher. Very test heavy class.
Online psych was great. Just do the work and you'll be fine. Clear instructions.
This class was the bomb! She's super friendly and funny. Lectures are way interesting. My favorite!
Amazing teacher, makes learning fun! She tells a lot of stories to help you remember what you are learning. There are many opportunities to ask questions and clarify material. The mindtap and online work can be time consuming, but defiantly helps you memorize the material.
The online class was very structured. We did the same four activities every week. After reading the chapter, you do online flash cards, post questions on the discussion board, answer two questions, and then take a post-test that can be repeated multiple times. Only crazy difficult thing were the tests and exams. You have to put in time and effort.
Great class. You have to work, but lectures are fun and interesting. Go to class. Extra credit available.
Very good lectures and clear grading criteria
Caring and enthusiastic prof. Fair grading. Grades on a curve. Extra credit. Use the study guide.
Great lectures, plus she teaches helpful study habits that be carried on, as well as being very open to questions/discussion. Easy to access outside of class and gives you plenty of resources to help you succeed. Tests are worth a lot of points so make sure you study. If you pay attention during lectures and take notes, you will be fine!
I was skeptical of taking this class based off some of the reviews for this class but honestly its been extremely easy. Standard amount of homework for an online class, schedule and syllabus are very clear and accurate. Class itself is very interesting. Would take again.
Since I took her online, everything was pretty much open-textbook. She used like two websites for everything, but she responded well through email. Some of the questions on a quiz were graded wrongly for me once and she fixed that, so she is understanding about that. I enjoyed the content and assume she would be nice in person, recommend.
Took the class online. Never got any feedback on anything; often had to email her about incorrect test auto-correction, and she often refused to fix the grade despite acknowledging that the grading was incorrect; got 0% on an assignment because cengage somehow showed I got 29.7/30 points. Terrible experience.
Online HW is required, dont slack! Shes funny & a great lecturer. Exams arent super easy, study! Dont skip if you can help it. Lots of in class discussions & participation. Makes you think & wants you to learn. Explains things pretty well, approachable. Reminds me of Garcia from criminal minds
Dr. Rubin is an amazing instructor! She relates to students and does as much as she can to ensure students' success. Everything in the study guide is on the exam so it's really easy to pass this class! Uses guided notes but explains everything thoroughly in lecture. Try not to skip bevause you will miss a lot of information. 10/10 would recommend!
This professor wasn't a great fit, those other reviews you see we're not that great. She is not a great professor in my opinion. Study guides were terrible. I really wouldn't recommend her at all. She wasn't very helpful to me at some points. I raised my hand, ask a question and bad response. I love Psychology, however she kind of ruined it for me.
I found that her lectures were overly heavy and she would stay on the same topic for like half of class. I also found her to be very biased and to push her biases on students rather than just teach facts. Because of her slow lecturing, half of what she tests on, she doesnt cover in class. Not my fav but at least she gives a study guide
Prof Rubin was amazing. Really good explanations, open to answering all questions in class. Very clear grading criteria and great lecture notes that are almost all you need to study for the exams. She also gives a study guide and extra credit activities. I totally recommend her for this psych class!
Im taking this as an online class. There is an average amount of homework every week. She gives you a study guide every week you have to do for points, but you get to the test & the questions are so out there-specific percentages numbers & she will ask about something that was in one single sentence of the chapter in the textbook; silliness.
Very understanding and interesting lectures. Very personable and funny. The class was easy as long as you participated and did your work. Definitely recommend.
No recorded lectures or notes for the whole semester. Same copy/pasted schedule every week. 2 chapters, 4 quizzes, 2-4 videos, 2 papers, 2 exams. There were optional references "posted" each week, but none were accessible. IT reached out to her with info on how to fix them; she did not. The exams did not match the textbook version. Outdated stats.
She gives a clear path and rubric of what's expected in the class. However, her study guides rarely ever helped when it came to the test. Her tests were very difficult even when I would read and highlight chapters it was no use. Were in a pandemic she could have worked with her students in some way and she doesn't respond when asking questions.
She is not a good professor. She doesn't give lectures and practically let's cengage do her job for her. Quizzes were hard and irrelevant, didn't respond to emails. I would not take her again.
Ugh I loved her! She was so kind. And she made lectures so easy because she applied stuff to her daily life. Test were pretty easy. Loved this class
She was wonderful to have as an instructor. She gave us lecture notes that we needed to print out before the start of each unit and we would have them there to follow along and fill in the blanks. She gave extra credit assignments, two late passes, and she gave us make up exams. Understand and cares about her students.
The online class was very easy. She responded to emails quickly. Would take again!
I was leery but any professor who assigns books from open-stack is a lifesaver. The class is hard, but it's not an easy subject. She makes it a bit easier though. Reach out to her for study tips and anything else you are struggling with. She really does want you to pass!
She was not a caring or understanding professor at all. Since it was an online course, the one interaction I did have with her was very cold and rude. From what I've heard from a friend who had her in an in-person class, she is a nice professor, but online I would not recommend at all. The work is easy, but I dreaded doing it because of her.
My favorite class ever, so interesting and useful. I would take any virtual or on campus class Dr R teaches. The class was structured for students success, the syllabus was detailed and clear, she followed its content but adjusted it for our benefit when needed. Without her explanations and diagrams, it would be difficult to grasp some concepts.
Pros: Relatively easy exams, graded on curve, allowed late passes, made lecture notes, open resource textbook. Cons: Fill in the blank lecture notes, recites from power point mostly, can be absent with little warning, no electronics aka pen and paper notes only, constant mask fiddling/folding (decreased effective protection) without sanitizing.
Took advanced Psychology online and was a little nervous for it. Her outline and schedule was so organized and flowed perfectly, I didn't feel rushed in learning the material. Has make up exams and always takes higher grade. Loved her and the course
Put in the work and study and you will do just fine! Loved this course and professor Rubin. Exams are recorded so be sure to study!!
Professor Rubin releases all work at the beginning of the semester, great for planning/working ahead. No lectures for online class, just textbook reading. Each week follows the same format. Quizzes are hard to study for, practice quizzes are not very relevant to the actual quiz and some information in them is from the previous textbook edition.
Not sure where all of these negative ratings are coming from. I am currently finishing up the semester with her and have a 96% in the class. As long as you do the weekly assignments and use quizlet to study for the exams and reading quizzes you will pass this class.
Took abnormal psych and did enjoy the class. There are weekly quizzes, but most of the questions are based on the textbook, not the lecture. Tests aren't too bad. The only thing is that if you don't read the textbook, you won't know how to answer the questions. But I barely read it and passed so it just depends. Informative class.
Very clear with everything and great at lectures. I enjoyed her class.
She tries. She is logical in her grading. You probably don't have to read the book word for word, but skim it and make sure you know key concepts. Some things from lecture and not in the book are on test so pay attention. overall I would take her again.
Great professor! I learned a lot in the class. Engaging lectures on things that aren't in the book. There is A LOT of reading and I almost couldn't keep up. Do all the practice quizzes and you'll do fine on the exams. Every exam has a curve and there are 1-2 extra credit opportunities. Do everything she says and you'll do fine.
Read, respond on Blackboard, take a quiz. Every few weeks, take a test. The tests are NOT EASY! I spent a lot of time each week on the weekly reading and taking notes. The tests are no joke! You have to know this material very well! I wish there were better Quizlets available for studying. This was not an easy A.
Psychology is one of my biggest passions, as I put a massive importance on mental health. It was very concerning how little care she showed her students for teaching a class about mental illness. No lectures online, little and bad communication; unorganized, proctored tests WEEKLY, and the tests are hard. Study hard. Avoid her if possible!
Makes online learning very difficult. Announces the first day of class that you should expect to spend 6-9 hours a week completing content to achieve at least a C. No lectures posted going over content. You have to teach yourself everything by reading the textbook word for word. Weakly content does not help for preparation of the weekly tests.
I took General Physiology with her and found her teaching style to be straightforward. She provides the entire semester's material upfront, which allows students to work ahead. Additionally, I found Quizlet to be a helpful study tool for her exams.
Professor Rubin was straightforward with assignments with clear expectations. There are video summaries, study guides and quizzes. I personally felt the quizzes were somewhat difficult and the study guides didn't always match up to what was on the quizzes but luckily the other assignments made up for some missed quiz points! Great class!
All of her online resources are extremely outdated, even though it is a fully online class. Some of the videos don't even work because they are so old, and when you email her to ask her what to do it takes her days to respond. She also goes long periods without grading anything, the test questions are also unrelated to the chapters we read.
Lectures are really interesting. Nice professor. Exams are easy if you go to class and do the homework. Gives lecture notes, makeup exams, and extra credit. Definitely recommend.
Took her online class, it's easy as long as you're doing your work. Would recommend.
Amazing professor! Her lectures were interesting and unique. She used many examples that were extremely memorable, which helped me remember a lot more on tests! She gives you two late passes to use on any assignment, no matter how late, and that was extremely helpful. Grades on a curve as well when it's needed.
People liked her, she had a "calm, cool, relatable" vibe with dry humor. I couldn't shake my dislike. Her covert arrogance showed in strict phone rules, even for parents needing to check on kids. Grading was delayed, instructions vague, and study guides missed quiz topics. Slow, unhelpful emails. Made learning unenjoyable. I wouldn't recommend her.
I took this class online during the summer and it was the most time-consuming class. We do two units every week meaning 2 tests, writing 2 long video essay summaries, completing 2 study guides, 4 discussion board posts, and then obviously reading the 2 chapters. The content was interesting but the amount work made it difficult to enjoy.
I love behavior psych but regret taking her class. Unfortunately, no one else teaches this course. Her study guides do NOT include everything on the test, the notes don't either. She took forever to grade so if you made a mistake it would bleed into your next assignment since you probably won't know what you did until then. No electronics allowed.
Friendly and fair professor. Gives makeup exams, extra credit, late passes. Lectures are informative and interesting. Really nice person.
Everything you'd want from a professor is here, from exam makeups to late assignment passes for full credit and visual and understanding lectures. The note sheet is confusing but compact to reduce printing costs. I'd suggest bolding titles and sections according to the study guide; it's worth the extra cost..
No extra credit, tests include materials not within the realms of the textbook. Weekly lockdown browser exams.
She didn't teach one thing. Only used John Green YouTube videos and a digital textbook, NO LECTURES. Half the information on the exams isn't even taught in the course, and the other half is meant to trick you. She's also extremely unorganized. Who knows, maybe the in-person classes are better because then she's forced to actually do something.
Go to class and do the reading and you will do fine on exams. Gives makeup exams, late passes, and extra credit. Really enjoyed class. Very nice teacher. She really cares about her students.
Overall, I found this class difficult to navigate because the course felt very disorganized. Deadlines were sometimes unclear, strict, with no flexibility for late work and while there's a 10-minute grace period for arriving to class, there wasn't understanding for unexpected personal situations. I often felt that the environment lacked empathy.
A really great course. You can tell she really cares about her students and is passionate about psychology. Gives make up exams, extra credit, etc. Weekly schedule is posted at the very beginning of the semester - very organized. Exams are short and only cover minimal info. Go to class and read the book and you will do fine.
In my opinion, she does not keep track of time well. We had many classes where we had to skip over sections because she could not manage her time. Has a policy to where you cannot enter the class if you are 10 minutes late. She literally raised her voice at a student because they searched a question on their phone. Would not recommend.
I had a hybrid class with her and it was alright. She had like 3 guest speakers and I feel like she just had them so she didn't have to do a lecture, but I could be wrong.
