She's very accommodating. I would suggest reading your material, practicing your equations, don't be afraid to ask questions if you're lost. Oh yea, come to class to learn Chemistry not other stuff!
I really learned a lot with Dr. Ung. She really knows the material and knows how to bring it to a comfortable level. Really good class.
Dr. Ung is really thorough. She always checks with the class to make sure her pace is within everyone's grasp. Although some people may think she expects a lot, her expectations do not exceed her teaching. She makes Chemistry very understandable and has a good sense of humor too. Definitely one of my favorite professors by far!
Not great.
Great professor. Chemistry 152 is more work than 151 but Ung is a great prof
CHM 152 is a difficult class but if you are willing to put in the work, Dr. Ung is a great professor. She makes sure that everyone understands the material and will go over it multiple times if necessary. She holds the class to a high standard and it is a challenging class but you will leave with a strong understanding of chemistry.
Dr. Ung is an amazing professor. She truly cares about helping each individual to succeed and is very easy to talk to. Even though this is a difficult course, Dr. Ung makes it a little easier by taking the time to make sure everyone understands. She lays out very clear expectations from the start for both lab and lecture. I highly recommend her.
I loved professor Ung because she made a topic I hate (chem) into something bearable and understandable as she is really sweet and knows exactly how to teach the subject efficiently. Her practice tests are really helpful and she genuinely cares about every student in her class.
This class is difficult compared to CHM151 regardless who you take. I took Dr Ung for CHM152 lab + lecture and in my opinion she is a very under-estimated chemistry professor. After having struggled with CHM152 material last semester, Dr Ungs consistency in her expectations allowed me to easily adapt to the demands of this course.
I had to retake chemistry 130 again because the last time I took it was over 10 years ago. Dr. Ung was very intimidating in the beginning. I know a lot of students dropped because they did not stay long enough to see that she actually does know how to teach. Once you get the hang of her method, it becomes fun to learn. I was pushed & enjoyed class.
She's a tough grader, but she tells you exactly what she wants to see in the lab reports. Some of the work is tedious, but it will definitely prepare you for the tests and future chemistry classes.
She knows her stuff but I think she has a hard time getting down to some students levels that don't pick up on the material as quickly. She doesn't provide ppts & talks really fast/ is hard to understand at times, can be easy to get lost, had to get help out of class. She does write everything on the board though. She is funny & very caring.
Overall had a good experience with this class. She is very kind and funny, but just a heads up she moves through the material VERY fast meaning your going to have a rough time if you just rely on just her lectures to learn. Alot of homework and reading but relatively not too difficult if you keep up with it and ask questions.
As long as you show up for this class and participate, its easy to get a good grade. Her study guides go along very well with her tests and the homework helps you pass.
I had her for lab and she talks very fast and is strict with how she wants her lab reports. She is a tough grader. There are no study guides for her four major lab quizzes. She just quickly goes over what will be on the quiz. However, she is very passionate about chemistry and you will have to put in much effort for a good grade.
Sophie is very passionate about chemistry. She knows her stuff and likes to crack jokes every few minutes. Shes sarcastic sometimes but very lighthearted. MAKE SURE YOU STUDY YOUR POLYATOMIC IONS. Your grade depends on it!! Im bummed that I dont get to take 151 with her due to my work schedule. Be ready to put in work if shes your professor!
I had a different instructor for my lecture and because of Dr. Ung I was weeks ahead of the kids in my lecture. She has an accent and speaks fast, but you can understand her mostly and she's more than willing to repeat or explain something differently. She can be a bit confusing on her instructions, but as a professor, she's really good.
The class curriculum itself is pretty intense but she teaches the material well enough to get the grade you want as long as you work for it. Writing extensive lab reports was new to me and terrifying at first but she has challenged me in such a way that I am a better student for it and better equipped for my now higher level classes.
I took this professor for my CHM130LL. If you are looking for just an easy class isn't it. If you want to really learn the material she's the perfect teacher. She is funny and you can tell she is very knowledgable and has good explanations for what she is teaching. I will be taking her again for 152. Not to pick a favorite teacher but if I did...
Prof. Ung is an okay teacher. I wouldn't recommend taking her unless you're okay to put in the work (which she will have you do). She does help with the post-lab work however she does, at times, give confusing directions on how to do the lab that is different than what the manual says.
Dr. Ung is awesome. Chemistry is a hard subject but she explained things clearly and would work with anyone who had questions to make sure everyone understood. She may be strict about some things, but she is really funny and easy to talk to. The study guides are very similiar to the exams so review them, do your homework, and you will do fine.
Wonderful professor. Dr. Ung truly loves chemistry and wants her students to as well. Don't be afraid to ask questions the material can sometimes be difficult to understand as written in the book but Dr. Ung will go very in depth especially when it comes to equations. The class isn't easy you will have to work hard but you will be thankful after!
Dr. Ung is a great professor that will challenge you in the classroom. While this class was very difficult and fast paced due to the summer schedule, it definitely prepared me for more difficult level classes in my future college career. Don't be afraid to ask questions and participate. Put in the effort and you will get the grade you deserve.
The Worst! difficult to understand, explains things poorly. grades Lab reports based on her extra formatting criteria and not correctness of answers. We never went over any material in class that we were tested on. Beware, she is unreasonable and unwilling to be flexible in any way. Shes late every day, shes unprofessional and condescending.
One of the worst professors. Very stringent class rules and very unapproachable. She isn't understanding of student's very complex and busy lives. Her lectures are monotoned, drag on and are difficult to follow. She just reads a power point and rushes through. She isn't fun or engaging or good at explaining concepts. I learned more from youtube.
Lab is only 1 credit but with her it feels like a 4 hour credit class. Be prepared to turn in 12-15 page lab reports. Does not grade on accurateness, instead grades on her formatting criteria. There were 13 students in the lab initially, only 2 ended up staying. Be sure to know how to use excel, lab reports depend on it!
Just do the homework and just do what she asks (i.e. write equation, calculation, result with units for problems) and you'll be fine. The toughest part of the class is reading the book If you want to get ahead on the homework. She is aware of her accent and will frequently check to make sure that students are understanding her. Same for her lab.
Professor Ung is a very funny woman. The class consists of chapter homework due bi weekly and tests plus final. If you do homework and do the study guide provided as well as attend lecture you will pass if not you will fail. She really isn't bad and genuinely does care about the class she just expects her students to put forth the effort to pass.
It is not hyperbole to say Dr. Ung is the worst teacher I've ever had (K - grad school), and I've had many. Right answer on the test but not enough work shown? She'll mark it wrong. She doesn't give tests back so you don't know what you missed. Tests questions are ALL page-long word problems. Over half the class dropped or withdrew. Awful lectures
Dr. Ung will challenge you, she makes you work for your grade, but you learn everything she will teach. She is charismatic and fun, i'm sure you'll enjoy her.
Dr. Ung has a very easy lab. The issue comes from learning what she wants from the lab reports. Which isn't really an issue after the 1st lab, along as you listen to what she wants, she will give you the A+ for your work.
Dr. Ung's Class is Challenging but rewarding. Her lectures are extremely helpful and very in depth. If you pay enough attention/take enough notes in her lectures you will never have to open the book. She has great examples and methods of explaining her material, and I would recommend taking her course to anyone.
I dont know how she has so many good reviews she drops you if you miss one time she makes you walk around the entire classroom in a methodical fashion to turn in stuff even if you sit directly across from her desk, you have to do all the assignments before she teaches them and then she breifly goes over it and wastes TONS of classtime checking HW.
Very nit picky with grading and will take off points for just about anything she can. She will insult your work in front of the class and is not open to having conversations about getting points back/ misunderstandings.
The absolute worst professor/teacher I have ever had. I have seen her humiliate students in front of the class saying that they are making things up and putting them on the paper if they miss ONE aspect of the many many requirements she has just for writing equations. She rushes students because she wastes so much class time grading you.
How does she have ANY good reviews? Seemed like our entire class hated her she is super nit picky she took off 16 percentage points on one of my assignments which was like 12 pages long, because I didn't put zero at the end of my decimal points. I see taking off maybe 5% but 16%? She will call on you randomly and make you explain stuff to the class
By far one of the worst teachers I have ever had, and I've had A LOT! Yeah, she knows her stuff; but will make you feel stupid for asking questions. Her methods are very detailed and she expects you to do everything her way. You will feel like you are back in kindergarten with the way she treats you. She tears students down in front of class.
I requested several times feedback on my papers why i got grades removed well she has no time for that please dont take her except of it is your only choice
Gives no feedback on anything including tests does not hand them back or tell you what was wrong, didn't answer my email when asking what was wrong with one of my labs, points taken off are extremely unproportional to the tiny mistake made, you will get atleast a grade lower then you deserve simply because of her. Take any other teacher ANY
Dr. Ung has a very clear and concise way of teaching. If you read the Chapters, take notes, and ask clear questions, you will be able to succeed. She is interested in your success as a student, but will NOT be your crutch. Tests are a larger portion of the grade, so make sure you are truly studying daily, do not wait to learn the material.
First day, I wanted to change professors. Her labs are very involved! However, she teaches in a way that almost forces you to understand. While it is very difficult, the class is very worthwhile and will teach you discipline and reasoning skills that will help you no matter what your career. She's tough, but totally worth taking!
I have never had a teacher before who really made it priority for students to learn the knowledge. There are a lot of teachers who make getting a good grade easy but the class was a real challenge, in a good way. She really knew all the knowledge well and it is unfortunate that COVID-19 didn't allow for us to remain in class for the semester
She was a great teacher, I enjoyed having her. Her class was really hard, but it humbled me. It shows you if you are going in the right path in terms of career. If you cant pass this class, maybe the profession you're pursuing isn't for you. I loved her, Id take her again.
She has high expectations and expects you to do the work. You will learn through repetition. She is understanding but you have to make the effort to get into contact with her. I learned a lot in her class.
Dr. Ung is always willing to help those who have already tried to find the answers themselves. If you are truly asking to be taught, then you will learn. Very tough, very straightforward, but still accessible and flexible when she is allowed to be. I would recommend this professor if you wont be shocked by the fact you must study on your own time.
One of the most unprofessional and horrible teachers I have ever had. She did not grade any assignments for 2 and a half months, then graded everything when you had no idea what you did wrong. Her tests are purely math test, no real tests on the knowledge of the chapters. Do her study guides and make sure you can do each one in under a minute.
No she doesnt challenge you asking for a specific way in writing formulas and considering everything else wrong is not challenging basing tests on study guides but giving us too little time to finish a test is not challenging just tests your memory challenging is when you get a hard test not beat the time test how fast u can write memorized stuff
if it is your only option yeah sure take her but other then that if you have your own way of doing things well too bad it's either her way or no credit partial credit no if you show work but she deems it not enough than wrong answer her tests you wont have enough time to finish she doesnt drop the lowest or curve or round do her study guide test sa
In this class, you have zero time to slack. Even if you spend ALL your time studying, its extremely difficult to learn the concepts because most of the time, you are teaching yourself. Her lectures are so fast paced, as if she expects you to already know the concepts she is teaching. I am an A/B+ student, but I barely managed to get away with a B-.
It might feel like a lot of work at first but later in semester, everything really makes sense. All the formatting of formulas and equations are actually helpful. Really just actually DO your work and you'll be fine.
Signed up for classes late & got stuck with her. Left us to Connect & taught zilch. 100 prob hw + 20 prob hw + quiz every week. Changed the grading criteria 1/2way into the semester. I couldn't get the hw done and still pass my other classes, so I stopped 9 weeks in. (But when I had tech probs she did help me because I was polite.) SAVE YOURSELF!!!
Ung cant do online classes she doesnt teach material makes you pay to teach yourself and her response times, if you got one at all, are very poor.
I'm a straight A student and study a lot like a LOT outside of class. I love doing homework and learning so when I say this teacher is insanely jaw droppingly horrible she really is its unbelievable the things she took points off for and how much she takes off. Must show 3 lines for EVERY calculation which took 6-12 pages and 10-15 hrs weekly of hw
I really enjoyed this class and the way the labs were set up online, but there was a severe lack of participation from the rest of my class. If you want to get a good grade in this class, you have to participate fully in the air labs. I also recommend studying for the tests, because they are long and hard to complete in the time frames allotted.
Easily the worst teacher I have ever had. Way too much work, she doesn't teach anything, and she expects you to read her mind. This is a one credit class, and it had more work than any 4 or 5 credit class I have ever taken.
Prof. Ung is a students worst nightmare. She grades on full work shown,WITH UNITS, but out of HER template. She has you "rewrite" work she has done and if not correct expect less than half credit. She does not give clear feedback just generic feedback"please rewrite when was provided on a seperate sheet" Not worth the stress. Review say all.
This class had tons of writing in the labs and everything had to be word for word what she wanted us to write. Grading is very strict but otherwise she was very helpful, she makes you work for your answers and wont just flat out give you them but when I struggled in the class she had faith in me and was helpful and I passed!
I am a pretty good student, also have taken many online courses with great success. I dropped this class (1st time I have ever dropped) the class layout is very unorganized and difficult to navigate. The MCC course required a e-book I purchased she then had me purchase another software that basically replaced her as my teacher. I do not recommend!
Took this class online expecting to be able to turn assignments in at midnight like every other online class. She had everything due at 8 PM, I asked about this and she said she did this so her students work ahead. I took this class during summer so it was condensed, there was so much work to do I had to drop.
A very tough grader, and WILL NOT let you take an exam before the allotted time. So if you are going to be traveling for the exam time, just accept that you'll receive a 0 because she will not let you take it before, regardless of the circumstances. She gives so much homework and her lectures are so boring. All things are due at 7:59 pm
Do NOT take this professor She drops you a letter grade if you miss one homework and the homework will take many hours A DAY 4-6. You will need to write out every single equation to perfection which takes hours. She expects too much of students and I am an A+ student. She isnt available or understanding at all. TERRIBLE!
If you expect a chemistry class that is a piece of cake, this is not it. The material is intermediate level, so you need to invest some time and effort. Prof Ung is available to answer questions, so part take in office hours. Her unit and final reviews are a must (about a quarter of the content will be on the test).
Dr. Ung is a classic, no-nonsense professor. big studypass. her lectures are very straightforward, and she includes links for tutors/ help/references for specific areas of each chapter. Dr. Ung has replied to my emails in a respectful and timely manner every time i have reached out. she is a clear communicator and a knowledgable professor.
DO NOT take this professor. I am an adult student & work a 4x10 schedule & don't get home until 7p. HER DEADLINES ARE 7:59P instead of 11:59p like everyone else. When I asked if she could make that accommodation, her answer to me was that she opens up assignments early and that I need to get up early in order to finish on time. Stay Away,
I HATED this teacher with a passion while under her, 2 years later, I realize the skills she has taught me. Her lab is BRUTAL and will beat u to ur core, but if science is what you are going into, she will help you so much in the long run. I thought she could loosen up, but as you advance, her strictness really helps you succeed. Hate/luv relatnshp
Took this after passing previous chem with an A+ and failed. Gives PowerPoints that are years old and not up to date. All homework quizzes and practice must be done by Wednesday. Asked for help so I could pass and move on to the next section and she told me good luck with no help. Had to withdraw and retake else where.
I took 130 with her last Fall and learned so much. It wasn't easy to get an A but was achievable. Be sure to participate in the discussion boards; it helps with memorization for the tests. If you want to learn chemistry and get a great understanding of it for future classes, you should take Dr Ung's CHM130 class. I am currently in her CHM151 class
If you are not willing to spend a considerable amount of time with this course, this course is not for you. I recommend that you study for at least 1-2 hours daily because if not, you could easily fall behind in the course. The material can be challenging, especially if you do not establish a rhythm and flow from the opening week.
Depends on old material on Hills-Mcgraw from 2019 (costs $115 to access), will give no guidance, assignments are due at 7:59PM. Understanding the instructor is more difficult than understanding the material. The department director and academic advising teams will do nothing with your complaints so save your money and find an actual teacher.
Probably one of the worst professors I have had. She did not teach she gave you so much homework to do it was almost excessive. You are truly on your own with little to no guidance whatsoever. Just avoid this professor there are better ones that will actually teach you and not give you so much homework that will take up so much of your time.
3-5 hw assignments due DAILY/every week, at 7:59 pm (takes 1-4+ hrs to complete depending on prior knwl). Impossible to get ahead. U pay $100+ to be taught by a book u barely have time 2 read with the hw/lecture videos. Module layout is SO confusing/EXCESSIVE. I go to school full time and this is my only class- IT IS INSANITY. DO NOT TAKE HER.
Way too much work was required during this class. 3-5 assigned per day. The most frustrating part was that for all of the assignments you had a week, they didn't weigh much on your grade. I could get 100% on all of the homework assignments in the class, but two bad exam scores ended up dropping my grade way lower than I could recover from
Mcgraw Hill is used as your main source of information. Her lectures don't cover much that you need to know. In the lecture, she just uses textbook pictures of examples and never works them out it is just pictures of steps. Crazy long discussion boards are mandatory and she provides no useful feedback even when questions are asked on how to improve
I cannot explain the amount of homework that is expected to be due. Classes started on 1/16 and I am writing this review as of 1/19. I have had to complete 17 assignments including a quiz. The expectation is you will start early and that is basically it. This is a ridiculous class to take due to course load for something that is 3 credits
3-5 assignments are due daily at 8 pm each assignment will take you over an hour without exageration. I've taken numerous online classes but she is awful will dock one letter grade if you miss 3 assignments, however if she doesnt think you showed your work enough it counts as one missed assignment! DONT TAKE HER CLASS IF YOU WANT TO PASS CHEM.
I think this professor actually wants people to know and understand what they are learning. She expects you to work hard and wants you to truly learn. This class has forced me to learn more about chemistry than I have had to in the past which I'm truly grateful for. I believe it's very important if you're going into medical or science careers.
If you can take any other prof, then do it. All assignments are due at 7:59 and she does not offer any extra credit OR make up work. Her discussion boards have very specific requirements and are worth 120-150 points, if she deems it not good enough she wont count it as credit.. For every 3 assignments missing, a full letter grade is dropped.
You pay for hw. She does not treat her students as if they are beginners at chem. Met with her 3 times to discuss the concepts I was struggling with and she would talk to me like I should already know how to do it, followed with "it's so simple". Asked about a question that was not covered in the book or her lectures and she told me to look it up.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. This class takes SO much time and Professor Ung grading is very harsh.
This is a tough class and very fast paced. I took it over a professor who had a better rating and regret it! She drops you a letter grade every 2 assignments missed. Docks points in half if discussion board is "not long enough"(full paragraph and example) or because you talked about the same topic as others but the topics are limited.
I wouldn't suggest this class to the weak hearted. If you pride yourself as intelligent, strap on your seat belt... You're going to be in for a rude awakening. I personally stayed with her because I felt challenged by her and I liked that. If you manage to make an A... You get bragging rights because she's a truly rigorous professor. Good luck.
I was in the class for two days. There was about 6 hours of homework every night. I missed the syllabus quiz so she withdrew me with no notification or email. Then refused to respond to my emails and the head of the department had to tell me she would not let me back. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS
Be prepared to memorize lots of formulas! Lecture videos posted her YouTube channel are about 1-2 hours long (watch these if you want to pass). Professor posts study guides for almost every exam (except 1, not sure why). Final Exam may get curve depending on class average. Good luck
Dr. Ung is a very good instructor—kind and highly respected. The reason I received a C is that CHM 130 was my first chemistry class ever. If I take it again, I am confident I will earn an A+. This is not Dr. Ung's fault; she helped me pass the course by answering my questions and providing great feedback on my homework.
Dr. Sophy Ung's CHM151 online class was excellent. She explained complex topics clearly, was responsive to questions, and provided helpful resources like study guides and practice exams. The course was well-organized, and the assignments aligned with the material. I earned a B and would highly recommend her to other students!
I've taken CHM 130, 151, and 152 online with Dr. Sophy Ung, and she's an excellent instructor. She explains complex topics clearly, provides helpful resources, and is always responsive to questions. Her courses are well-organized, fair, and engaging. I feel confident in my chemistry skills. Highly recommend her!
Although this instructor seems to be a hard grader, it is only in the interest of the student. She wants quality work that students can use as study mechanisms or to help them understand topics better. She is always open to feedback and there are office hours if a student needs more help or clarification.
Dr. Ung is an amazing teacher. Do the practice exam as many times as you can because the actual exam is very similar. She's available for help, and her class is not hard, you just need to study. I highly recommend her.
Intense class that demands dedication. But if you put in the effort, you'll gain valuable knowledge. Unstuckstudy proved a helpful tool alongside the textbook for exam prep.
You have about 3 hours of homework due almost every night due by 8pm. I have taken so many science classes and have gotten an A in every class she was my first C. I asked her a question and she told me she will only answer my questions on zoom on Tuesday nights and if I need to ask questions I needed to get a tutor. Do not take her class.
Prof Ung let me add her online class without fulfilling a prerequisite, under the condition of meeting with me every week to make sure I was on track. This really showed me she cared about whether I succeeded. I think she really cares about the success of her students. Work hard and you can get an A (I did).
I took Dr. Ungs CHM130 online class and liked it enough to come back for CHM151 and CHM152. There is quite a bit of HW and exams are worth 60% of your grade. Just go to office hours if you have questions and she will certainly help. If you're in college to actually learn this is the professor to choose.
This professor was so difficult so much. There is a lot of homework and she is very rude. Homework was due at 8 PM. I went to her for help in Zoom during office hours and she talks to me like I'm 5 and I'm a young adult. She was demanding me to say Yes when I said yes. And she is not patient at all. I had to report her DON'T TAKE HER CLASS!!!
By far the worst professor. Exams are a very high percent of your grade. Does not matter if you put in 20+ hours a week on note taking, understanding material, or hw. She gives no understanding to those doing their best. Her most used response to a question is “you should know this, it's very simple”. Do not take her class if you want a good grade.
This professor provided great materials for this class!! I think some students may think this class is tough but if you continue to do your best it will reflect in your grade. Professor Ung gives great feedback as well. I am very glad I took Professor Ung's class!
I loved taking this class by Professor. She wants all of her students to succeed and do well! She also was willing to take the time every week for zoom class for those that need some extra help and guidance. She even created a poll to help get feedback on times that work for everyone. She is extremely caring and supportive.
This professor does not care about others time. This class can only work on her time, i feel if this is an online course there shouldn't be time frame on when a test can be taken. We should be allowed to take a test whenever through out the day. So if you have a schedule that bounces around don't take this class, she won't accommodate.
Need to understand chemistry? Take this class! Its a lot of work but Dr.Ung is upfront with the amount of work/time she expects, so if time management and doing hw on time is hard for you - reconsider. *Hw is attendance *You will have to fairly detailed discussion boards, normally not a fan but they are VERY helpful for studying + comprehension!
I learned a lot from her class. She is very organized in her online classroom, and she gave us a lot of resources to work with. I enjoyed listening to her videos and watching her doodling to make it easier for us to grasp the information. Other than that, she is very prompt with responding to any questions you may have.
To set a baseline, the course lasted around 2 months. Professor Ung is a great communicator and shares understandable lectures. Also shares many resources on top of using ALEKS. As an online class, the amount of work you're able to complete counts as participation. Not many discussions are shared unless you reach out/others reach out.
She is a very nice professor. The online classes were a little challenging, but I extremely enjoy her online videos, practice test, and homework. I advice you to spend a good amount of study time understanding the concepts and the laws. It will surely help you. Good luck!
Unable to use notes on test day, and it's lock down browser. There is so much homework, along with ALEK. Yes she can be reached but was not helpful.
She posts online lectures from 5 years ago which are fairly helpful but then swamps you in an ungodly amount of homework. The program she uses, Aleks homework, constantly makes you redo old topics before it lets you do your actual homework. The class ultimately ended up being non stop busy work and her zoom office hours are not very helpful.
Honestly she was great to me, always listened to any concerns or questions I had and was there to help as best she could. As long as you put in the time for this course, you can learn it and she will help guide you as needed. The course can be difficult but it's certainly possible as long as you put in the time and work necessary!
Professor Ung personally is super sweet and is willing to help you if need be. This course requires a minimum of 12 hours a week and is extremely hard. Between all the hours of lectures a week and the homework application that she requires us to use it is very strenuous. This class was the most stressful class I've ever taken.
Dr. Ung is amazing. I was very nervous before taking this class because I knew chemistry was challenging, but Dr. Ung helped me to understand chemistry better than ever. Dr. Ung's videos are very easy to understand. She breaks down each topic step by step. Put the effort and time into this class and you will succeed. Study the pre-exams!
Pros very thorough and understand the concepts, has weekly meetings for students, set up appointment meetings with teacher. Test are not super long winded, Reviews after each unit prior to test. Cons: lots oh homework, readings, assignments, discussions, so you have to have at least 9 -10 hours of time set aside for this course
