Poddar is a great professor! He gives great feedback and is always willing to help out. He is pretty easy, not because he grades easily, but because he is a great teacher and will make sure you are prepared before he tests you. There is also a presentation that is at the end of the semester that will definitely boost your grade up.
All quizzes and tests are online! Makes ECON 201 super easy to pass (google all the questions). Practice questions and you'll be fine.
Easy professor, most quizzes are online, attend the lectures and that is about all the information needed for the course.
One of my favorite professors in the business school. Class is super easy and he is very considerate when it comes to grading. Everything is online except for the second homework assignment, the project, and half of the final. Will do anything to help you understand economics. I would defiantly take more classes with him.
AMAZING! He will explain the topics super well, but then the tests and quizzes are open book, open note, open internet. He does not want his students to fail and he makes sure that they don't. The tests are times and go by quickly, but if you prepare for them even just a little bit, you should be good.
I would highly recommend taking ANY class with Poddar. He is such a nice guy & honestly wants students to get an A. Poddar has a huge heart & is a great teacher. There are a few tests/ quizzes (online), two homework assignments (1 online, 1 written), & a group presentation (end of the semester-- easy). You MUST to pay for the online text ($100).
Poddar's classes are super easy! All the quizzes and tests are online and they are open note! He's sweet and tries to make class interactive and fun. A lot of the time he gives you the class period to just do practice. There's one group presentation at the end but it's not too bad!
Super easy class and amazing professor. All tests and quizzes are open note and online. One group project at end of semester. He wants every student to get an A and if you do the work you definietly will.
Professor Poddar is such a sweet guy! He is very knowledgable about Econ. Tests are all online & open note and multiple choice & there are literally 2 easy HW assignments all semester. He gives time in class to practice & theres only 1 group presentation. Attendance isn't mandatory but it was kinda sad to see only 9/40 people show up on Fridays!
Professor Poddar is the best! Econ201 is a tricky subject, but he tries his best to have everyone do well in his course. If you need extra help he always is willing further explain the concepts. His course is standard with HW, quizzes, midterm, group pres., and a final. All of that is a breeze and should give you a grade in the A range. Take him!
This teacher is the best econ teacher out there. If you have the chance to take him, you won't regret it. Every test and quiz is open note and so is the final, Poddar is such a happy man and is always willing to help if you need it. There is one group project at the end that is super easy but other than that, highly recommend.
If you have to take econ, take it with him. He is the best there is and his class is genuinely interesting. Tests are open book and open notes which is unheard of. He really does want students to get an A and the one group project at the end is not difficult. Attendance is not mandatory but is appreciated because it is kind of sad when people skip.
Professor Poddar is truly a gem. He is always the happiest and kindest professor when I interact with him. A lot of people do not show up, but I think it is worth it just to hear him speak so passionately about econ. I think he truly is one of the greatest professors on Chapman's campus. 100% recommend.
Upper division ECON 350 with Poddar was a whole new world. Much more difficult than lower division. Had some confusing lectures. Overall be ready to teach yourself
I do not advise taking an upper division course with this professor. He explains concepts poorly, struggles to show how to do practice problems, then throws some brand new problems on exams. He leans heavily on an inconsistent online system. When he actually does write out exams, he doesn't even bother to use proper notation. I learned despite him.
Do take Poddar for Econ 201 easiest class you will ever have in college. Upper-division with Poddar is hell
This is the best macro class you can take. He makes all of his slides available and all tests are online. You can go as far ahead as you want to learn, and even do homework and practice ahead. I struggled with micro and he made macro so easy to comprehend
This class was super easy. Professor Poddar is a cute man who lectures every day from the powerpoints. Everything is posted online and his grading agenda is clear. Attendance is not required and all the quizzes and tests are online. All you have to do is take a couple of quizzes, do some homework, write a paper and take the final.
Great prof. 2 quizzes, 2 homework. 1 midterm 1 final. All are open notes and slides. Pretty easy class
I was not personally a fan of his class. His grading criteria on the paper that he assigned was extremely harsh. His lectures weren't very interesting and everything was online from the beginning so I didn't feel like I learned anything. He's a nice person but not an amazing professor.
Poddar is a nice guy, but a terrible professor. His lectures don't align well with his tests. His tests aren't very difficult, but despite what the other reviews say, his tests are NOT open notes. He is terrible at responding to emails so don't expect to be in contact with him outside of class.
Great lad
Dr. Poddar is always very willing to work with you if you have extraordinary circumstances and always wants to ensure that his students can have the best opportunity possible to pass the class.
Great professor. Took an Econ course with him during interterm and felt well informed and prepared for all the assignments. Getting an A/B is easy if you put in moderate effort and pay attention to lectures.
Decent Professor. His accent is a hard to understand at times especially over zoom. His tests and final are super easy but he grades very harshly on the essay. Pretty easy A but if you don't want to put in any effort whatsoever you can get a B easily.
Online tests are incredibly hard, even if they're from the same website as the practice problems. Averages seem to be around 70%... but he says that he's not going to curved. CLOSED NOTE CLOSED BOOK for everything.
65% of the grade is determined by the final exam and essay, 40% and 25% each. He gives no description of what he wants from the essay. Worst of all, he has a thick accent that makes him very hard to understand. He doesn't care much for his students concerns and generally ignores requests from the students about getting extra time/ information.
This class was very test heavy. The tests and quizzes are very challenging. Most of the class does not do well but he does not curve the test. The final is worth 40 percent of our grade and an essay is worth 25 percent. He gives us no guidance on the paper and expects us to know what he wants. He is good person but not a good professor.
How are students expected to do well in a course that the professor does not take into account the student's concerns and requests. The quizzes are extremely time-sensitive even when graphs are expected to be drawn. The homework is simply just quizzes - same format aka time-sensitive. 65% of the grade is based on criteria he never specified.
The class is already on a subject that many people don't find interesting, but then Poddar decides it would be a great idea to only teach from Powerpoints, and with little to no energy. It's not engaging, it's hard to follow, the quizzes require answering many more questions than there are minutes, and he doesn't curve. Take Hampton instead.
This professor changed up his curriculum because we were online. He made the last 2 weeks of the semester's worth of work 72.5% of our grade, which was extremely stressful. He didn't give us any direction for the paper, which is worth 25%. The quizzes are so difficult because of the time crunch. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! I hated every second of his class.
Clearly a very good person, hard to fully judge because it was online. Not a lot of homework, the tests were not overly complicated, and he is definitely knowledgeable on the subjects. Oh and the final is worth 40%, just a heads up.
Maybe it would be worth taking his class if he was going to curve our final grades. we don't understand the material and everyone has terrible grades because he doesn't make his tests, and he gives us literally less than a minute per question. I'd like him more if each question wasn't 1% of our grade, and he'd curve like every other econ teacher
nice guy, terrible online teacher. I liked him as a person, but he doesn't curve unlike all the other econ 200 teachers, so I'd never recommend him to anyone unless he does in the end. seems like a guy who cares about Econ, but not really the concerns of his students. tests are top hard and way too short on time limit, wouldn't take him again ever
HORRIBLE!!!!! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! He does not make the quizzes or exams so they are all way harder than the lectures. Paper is worth 25% and he gives ZERO description of what he wants other than "Greater than 90% has to be an almost PUBLISHABLE work" No curve, less than a minute per question on 40 qs quizzes, 80 qs hws, and 160 qs final!!!
DO NOT take this class
Professor Poddar is very passionate about economics and enjoys teaching the material. Hard to get the full experience, because it was online, but he has the best intentions for his students. It can be a difficult course, but pay attention and take thorough notes and you should do very well.
Professor Poddar is very knowledgeable and passionate about economics. He will have an answer to any questions you have and provides a lot of practice and feedback. Definitely pay attention and take notes on the lectures and attend class.
Dr. Poddar is a great econ teacher, he relied on Mindtap online for homework / quiz / tests which uses a question bank, so really the more time you spend practicing the better you do. He is really easy to talk to and willing to meet outside his normal hours, so overall as long as you at tried to understand, he made it easy.
His lectures are based off his powerpoint notes. Everything you need to study and prepare for is through the online textbook. At the end of the semester there is a paper to write but not too bad. As long as you pay attention during lecture and do the practice quizzes, you will do fine in the class.
Professor Poddar is very kind and you can tell that he really wants his students to learn and understand all the material he teaches. Light on the work load. Attendance seems optional as he lectures off of powerpoint slides that are also posted. I would come just because he's so eager about teaching that is quite contagious.
Nice guy, bad teacher. Lectures are long and truthfully very boring. Tests are relatively hard. Don't take this class.
Professor Poddar is one of the worst professors I've ever had. Your grade is only based on tests. He is extremely hard to understand because of his accent. He's nice, but will NOT give you extra credit. Do not take this class with him.
He is the sweetest professor ever but the class is based on 8 things in the gradebook most of which are the quizzes which are kind of really hard sometimes. However, he loves teaching which makes his lectures good and he's such a great guy overall. Just get ready to study to get a good grade.
He always seems excited to teach, his accent if not hard to understand . The lectures are really straight forward, but nowhere near the difficulty of his tests. Gradebook consists of about 4 test, 2 homework assignment, a group presentation and the final.
Lecture heavy, Tests are very challenging, Grade is only based on 2 Homeworks, Tests, Presentation, and Final. You REALLY have to work for this class. But he is a very nice and caring Professor and is available in and out of the classroom.
One of the SWEETEST professors ever, he is super accomodating if you can't make class and always makes it possible for you to schedule office hours. I'm genuinely going to miss him so much and if you honestly use quizlet to study, in addition to just looking at the homework and textbook, you should be fine! He also doesn't play favorites
I have to say that professor Poddar is one of my favorite teachers at chapman. You can tell he is passionate about the subject and truly cares for his students. His lectures are a great review of the readings, and the tests are very similar to the practice quizzes. I promise you wont regret taking professor Poddar!
Lectures were straight from powerpoints generated by Cengage. The tests were autogenerated. No study guides and told us to take the practice quizzes. I read the chapters, did the homework/practices, & still failed the tests. The tests are very "gotcha" 1-word dif tests. Closed notes, but he doesn't check for cheating. Good for self-taught students.
He's not the best at teaching but at least he's enthusiastic I guess. 20% of your grade is a 25 minute long presentation (default 80% score unless it's "outstanding"), 30% is quizzes, 10% hw, and 40% is the final. Went into the final feeling pretty unprepared b/c I was mostly self taught. The quizzes themselves were hard too.
Don't take this class if you're not willing to self-study. Many topics on quizzes that are not discussed in class. No extra credit opportunities. Professor is very nice but lacks teaching skills.
The professor himself was fine but the way he formats his class is so difficult. The quizzes are all multiple choice and then the final is short answer, so you go in somewhat unprepared. And the final is worth 40% of your grade. So even if you have an okay grade going into the final, your grade drops a lot if you do okay or a little less than okay.
I learned nothing from this class. He can't teach and barely grades anything on time. If you have a high grade going into the final, your grade will probably drop. He didn't grade finals until AFTER grades were due. He never gave us a clear rubric on what he was looking for.
Professor Poddar may be a friendly professor, but the idea is to never judge a book by its cover. 3 online quizzes, 2 homework assignments (one online and one written), a group presentation, and a written final (with ZERO expectations to pass it) as I studied for seven hours to get a D on it. Honestly, if you like your GPA then don't take it.
Class was ok up until the end. Everything was online format (MC homework/quizzes) until the end where he assigned a short-answer written homework and a short answer closed-book written final worth 40% of the grade that ruined most people's grades, including mine (I went from a 95 to an 87). Lectures were useless, mostly self-study. Mid asf.
Professor Poddar is one of my favorite professors at Chapman. He truly cares about his students and is very easy to access outside of class. As one the first classes I took while at Chapman, his course was welcoming and easy to adjust to, coming into the college setting. Couldn't recommend taking this class enough, I would definitely enroll again.
Professor Poddar was one of my favorite professors at Chapman. He's incredibly kind and will take the time to make sure you understand the material if you ask questions. Outside of class he's also a great resource who is willing to help anytime. Just make sure to look through the lectures, take this professor if you can!
This was by far my least favorite class. I was overall doing okay in the class until the final that is worth 40% of the final grade brought my grade down. I met with him outside of class and he reassured me I was ready for the quizzes and final which were difficult and I felt very underprepared for. If you can choose someone else.
I had Professor while we transitioned online due to Covid. He made it so seamless and sympathized with us, students. He was so kind and helpful; like any class, you have to work hard and study. He is always open to answering any questions and concerns... def recommend him!!!
I would highly recommend not taking this class unless you want to have to retake micro again. Everything he teaches you in class has no correlation to the quizzes or test. Even if you're able to get past the quizzes though with a decent grade then the final will kill you. He makes the final 40% on paper no multiple choice and no open book.
Professor Poddar is one of my favorite professors at Chapman. He is very passionate about the subject and he makes it a priority to ensure that everybody understands the material. His lectures are also the best review for his exams and practice quizzes. I promise you that you will not regret taking Professor Poddar.
If you wanna fail take this professor. He is notes and lecture say the opposite, you can study everything and still fail. Unless you cheat you wont pass!
Professor will call you out in front of the class for not doing well on exams and trying to ask questions. Total scumbag considering his capabilities teaching the class and how strict he is grading exams where you can miss multiple choice questions even though they are correct. Proceed with caution taking their class
Hard Grader, Lecture heavy, treats class like a high school class instead of a college course
Avoid at all costs. Multiple choice is really tricky, unless you cheat(Which half of the class did). I ended up withdrawing, because I wasn't learning anything and my quiz scores were not good. Thank God I did, because more than half the class ended up failing.
Very disappointed at how unprofessional he was keeping in mind the education and knowledge he has about the subject. I felt disrespected, belittled, and discouraged as a student wanting to learn and do well in the class. You will only do well if you already know the subject to the PHD level he does as an undergrad. Tests are made to trick you.
Please do not put yourself through this class it is better to wait and get into another class with a different professor. Office hours will leave you more confused. He gets irritated when you ask him a question and laughs at you for wanting to learn. Sad to see Chapman does not see how bad most of his students do in the class. I failed with an F.
I took this professor during the interterm so this class was harder than normal for me, but I loved his teaching style. He explains things very well and clearly and you can tell that he just has a great passion for his field which is econ. Does have one midterm, one group project, and one final so just be careful with that. Great teacher overall.
I think he's changed some things this semester. The midterm was online and easy, we could use a flashcard with notes. We only have 4 homeweworks the whole semester and they're super easy. He's a funny guy and is pretty easygoing. He is definitely a little hard to understand and not the best at explaining things, but it could be worse.
Very disappointing on how closed off he is about helping his students when they are struggling.
Very disrespectful and has favorites within the classroom, definitely don't recommended taking this professor.
Such a nice guy, but the tests were really confusing. My best tip is to look at the practice questions when studying, but the tests are still weighed heavy and pretty tough. Take him if you have a good memory. He's one of my favorite profs though, he's always so happy.
Class is not extremely difficult because grade is made up of 4 homework assignments, a mid term, a presentation and a final. Everything is online which is convenient. When taking notes his slideshows are completely useless and I recommend you use the textbook instead. He rarely goes over the slide, but he is very understanding professor.
Prof. Poddar was great at explaining the material and ensuring students understood it. Even though he doesn't take attendance, it's best to show up. He is very kind and caring, but it is essential to make an effort to get in contact with him if you are confused and need extra help. I enjoyed being in his class and he was a great professor.
One of the nicest professors that I have had. Always happy and excited to teach his class. Definitely show and pay attention in class because there are only so many opportunities for points.
Very very nice and understanding professor. Really cares about economics and wants his students to learn the criteria. Only 4 homework assignments, one midterm, and one final exam all online.
Professor Poddar cares a lot about his students and always shows up to class with a smile on his face. My only problem with this class is that all of the work is online, which makes it very hard for me to retain information. If the tests were on paper, I would have been able to do better in the class as I personally learn that way best.
Macro economics is personally not my strong suit but the class is manageable if you take notes and do practice problems. Professor Poddar is very understanding, encourages participation, and always shows up to class with a smile on his face. The class is kind of boring but his positive attitude made it tolerable.
He is such a sweet guy who will check up on you, but I didn't actually learn anything. After going to class for the first couple weeks, I realized I was learning anything and just figured it out myself. It wasn't my personal learning style and I didn't understand the lectures or test/homework questions. Light courseload though which was nice!
Had to drop since he was so bad.
Professor Poddar is awesome. Would highly recommend taking his class he makes the topics easy to understand and getting a good grade in this class is easy if you pay attention and apply yourself. He is the nicest man and wants all of his students to excel.
Do not recommend at all. Truly disappointing how unprofessional and rude this professor is. Be prepared to teach youself the material, I went to his office hours and he paid no attention to me he was on his computer the whole time I was talking to him and when he finally looked over he did not want to answer my questions on his confusing material.
Will not take accountability for mistakes
