He's not very clear, and difficult to understand at times. I was almost in tears after the first test, but things did get better. He is willing to adjust to help students succeed. Key to your success: Read the book, and do the problems he he hands out. They will show up on the tests. You can get an A in the class.
HE was very nice, and I could tell that he wanted me to do well in his class. Someimes he was a little hard to understand though.
He has a very thick African accent, so most of the time he's hard to understand because he tries to say things faster than he should and he mispronounces a lot. That was my biggest problem in the class, I just couldn't follow his lectures because of this and how disorganized his teaching method is. Buthe's nice and grades fairly at least.
His accent is not an obstacle but poor attendance can be. He is very generous with grading if you don't skip classes all the time. The subject material is difficult but he is patient even with those of us who don't get it right away. Keep your notebook up to date (he counts that as most of your grade)
He is a very nice teacher. He is so patience in teaching those student who are not understand the topic.Besides,he teach pretty clear, and i could understand him.because actually econ 5 is the hard subject ever. All you have to do just come to the class regularly and pay attention to class. He won't give you a bad grade. He is such a great professor
WARNINIG: DON'T FREAK OUT!!! His explanations are sometimes confusing and his tests always have info he hasn't covered before. However, S. Gueye is very nice and tries to help every student. That is if you end up taking his class just take it easy. The grade he gives you is based on your effort rather than on anything else.
He is very nice. He tries to help you as best as he can. The tests are allowed to take with open notes (not open book!). As long as you take good notes, you'll get good grades. Stay in the class and he won't dissappoint you at the end of the semester. He appreciates your effort even though you don't fully understand the materials.
I love his class. He's very nice. And even though, his explanations got confusing sometimes, he is willing to explain to you again outside class, even when it's not his office hours! Take him if you want to do Econ honors. He's also pretty flexible. :)
This professor is smart but he cannot teach economics at all. There is no mandatory homework, just couple assignments. His tests are Hard,so be prepared to think outside of the box.His notes on the board are confusing and sloppy. He jumps from one topic to another,so it's hard to follow. He is nice.Lots of contradictions? That's how his class is.
Although he has a very heavy accent, tends to be absent at times, and goes extremely fast. He attempts to help the students as best as he can. Even though students might not really understand the topic, he can be helpful in clarifying a bit during office hours.
His accent is fine, he just can't explain the concepts well. He is also very short tempered with students. The students in the class who needed the most help he was to annoyed with to do anything. He ignores those students regularly. Assignments are sporadic, tests are harder than what is covered. I wish he would assign more practice problems.
He's ok I guess. The stuff he teaches about Macroeconomics is fair: all based on text. However, his lecture is sometimes not very easy to understand. Sometimes the mispronunciation of his accent is confusing. When he writes on the board, there are occasions when he uses his own symbols or style of writing that no one can seem to understand.
I took his class online and thought he was very fair. The postings to the discussion questions were hard for me to put into words even if I somewhat understood it. His tests are based on the text but he gives us more than once to take it and unlimited time.
his lecture was really boring; however, he still gave me a B for mid-term even i didn't study for it. overall, he's a nice teacher!
Took this class online and it was difficult. He uploaded his in-person class lecture outline as content, which was useless. The discussion questions were so hard I couldn't even answer them. In fact, I ignored them all semester and still got an B. The tests are hard, but you get unlimited time and multiple chances. Be prepared to teach yourself!
Online class: My review is almost exactly the same as the previous review. There is no content from him, just his in-class lecture notes which are useless. The discussion questions are IMPOSSIBLE to answer for beginning Ecnomonics. I ignored them and got a B. Overall, just don't take Econ online, you are asking to fail at ECON 3.
Took his online course and.. WOW! Talk about a teacher who does not actively participate at all. In the beginning of the semester, he'll post weekly on the boards and update the site. As the semester goes on, he'll either post late or just flat out tell you what he wants the next 2-3 weeks ahead and you'll never see him until the end of that.
take another teacher if you can. he gets frustrated so easily because he expects you to understand what he says the first time. its not his accent that always throws you off, hes just not very good at explaining in general. he wants everyone to pass and assigns extra credit work, but it would be better if he was a good teacher to begin with.
I took the online class with this teacher. He is awful. Disorganized (you never know when a quiz is coming, when homework is due). Does not answer email or discussions most of the time, does not give solutions: you can not learn where you went wrong. His notes are useless, the discussion has nothing to do with the exams, and he has an angry attitud
I had trouble understanding his lectures. I think it wasn't so much his accent; it was his way of explaining things. You can use your notes and handouts on the exams. Don't take it personally if it seems he's annoyed with you. I somehow ended up with an A.
I really dont like him! Although he tried to help u in order to pull up your marks, u can never understand economics and u will start to hate this subject becoz of him! He didn't explain clear and all will come to the tests! Although somehow he is nice, but if u wanna get A-B in Economics without understanding anything, take him! But good luck..
Professor Gueye's class is pretty difficult. He does a lot to help you get the best grade you can though. He's pretty clear on his lectures, but he gives out work that eventually gets covered next class or only if you read the book. Not the easiest class, but he's a pretty good professor
this is a very difficult class. he does not know how to explain anything. and the text book is just as hard, because the quizzes and homeworks are online now. take another teacher if you can.
AWFUL! Thank god his tests are open-note & open book. You will completely have to rely on your own knowledge from the book because he isn't clear at all. He treats students like morons when they use words that he doesn't understand & he's a poor speller *cringe*. Study your book and you'll be fine, but his lectures are useless. No attendance taken.
When I first read the comment under this teacher I heard people saying that his notes useless and he started to get lazy after a while. I finally realize that now is week12 but then his notes and lecture's still in week10. All his tests&quiz are old and hardly updated. He is damn lazy! If you're not majoring in ECON you should tak him! He's too laz
THIS TEACHER CANNOT TEACH AT ALL! HE ONLY GIVE OUT QUIZ&EXAM. BEFORE I THOUGHT THAT IT WILL WORK OUT OK. BUT IT TURNS OUT THAT WHEN I E-MAIL HIM AND ASK HIM IF HE'S GOING TO EXPLAIN ANY PROBLEMS THAT I GOT WRONG. HE SAID HE WILL POST IT ONLINE. BUT HE NEVER DID IT! IS THE END OF THE SEMESTER AND THE ANSWERS FOR THE EXAMS ARE STILL NOT POSTED!
This teacher is very confusing. I would have to agree with the rest of the folks below. His exams are completely different from his sample classworks.
WORST TEACHER, hard to understand, always late/doesnt show.what he says deosnt have to do with what he tests.3 exams:10-25MC and exercise, open notes. gives sample exercise, though have nothing to do with tests. in the end curves grades.
This is not my first post about this teacher. I am still sticking to my opinion that he's lazy, don't know how to teach, disorganized, and kind of irresponsible. But overall I just check my final grade and I find that I am supposed to get a C but instead he give me an A. So I decide to write this out telling people who just want credit to take him.
THIS GUY IS A JOKE. Please dont take him during the semester he cancelled class 15 times. He doesnt care about his students. He wants u to ask questions and when u go he gets angry. He is the complete opposite of being organized and never answers emails. Please dont take him he does not care about his job.
Anyone upset with Mr. Gueye's teaching is only experiencing the failures of online classes. Economics is not a subject that should be offered online, as such intricate concepts must be discussed in class. I took a class with Mr. Gueye, he is very helpful if you have the courage to participate, in that he will start using pertinent examples.
Mr. Gueye is a horrible professor! His teaching skills are 0 to none! He is a knowledgeable individual, but he just doesn't know how to teach it. His accent gets hard to understand, but I try to understand him, but fail every time. I failed every exam and ended up with a C. I thought I had to retake the course, but I guess I passed.
Mike boi here. Mr.G is the man when it comes to econ. My Econ 3 was the blast, myself Ahmed and Aiden had that sh!t locked down.We had discussions every day...on mostly economic topics. Mr.G is really eager to discuss them. Tests were a breeze too. Read the book, IT IS ALL ABOUT THE DEAD WEIGHT LOSS mother ****ers! Mr.G is the bomb!
Everyone out there whining about how hard his class deserves to fail. The exercises on his exams are all based on his lectures. I failed all the multiple choice, but aced the exercises and ended up with an A. I didn't even use the textbook. For those who can't understand his accent, were you high when you were in his class? Get some help. Yes, yes?
I didn't like him. I had a feeling that if i asked him a question he would make me look retarded. I sure there are Much better teachers.
Libertarians or Austrian Econoimcs lovers, please note that this teacher is against capitalism, the free-market society. He will tell you that competition is bad, universal health care increase competitions, when it's a govt run monopoly. Please note this before you take him. On the other hand, he answers questions and does explains dispite accent.
He is the worst professor ever, and I'm so glad I dropped when I did. As after the first test he handed back with the back pages ungraded and only graded the front which gave me a D. When I went to talk to him over 25+ people were angry about their test. He told everyone we would talk about it Monday. He didn't show up for the for 2 class secs DROP
Notes on Souleymane Gueye: 1)rude 2)hard to understand due to accent 3)makes hella mistakes 4) grading standards is non-existant 5) CAN'T TEACH! i'm sure there are more, but i think you get the basic idea. he usually has a student who is doing well in the class do the exercises on the board and he/she is a better instructor.
this teacher is a scream! it's funny when you ask questions. he throws his head back, rolls his eys and lets out a big sigh. i was intimidated at first and felt foolish, but then my classmates and i started laughing about it and now we can't wait to ask questions. he's cute and his mannerisms are hilarious. yes yes? yes yes!
Yes, Professor Gueye has an accent, but he is not difficult to understand. I think he did a great job of relating what we were studying to current issues in the economy. Tests are easy if you go to class. I enjoyed this class!
This teacher is the worst. He is lazy and very unclear. He gave hw and quizzes online. Exams were in class and they were too long for 50 mins: 4 pages with calculations, graphs, and short essay portions. He cancels classes very often. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!
Mr.G is funny and patient, and I'm lovin his super clear lecture notes. I've learned a lot more than Econ 1..
Great teacher, though many people think he's too strict, but your work really counts, your grade reflects your work. Dont take him if you want an easy passing class.
he is okay..really nice teacher
Very skilled but not organized. Fast, sprawling lecture notes. You NEED algebra skills. Online work is like having a second class. His 4 in-class tests are LONG and based on his example exercises, but even though exams are 'open notes', it is challenging to finish them in 50 minutes. Final exam is tough...and he sent a proctor to give it to us.
I took his class online. He never replies to students, we had to communicate with each other. The Econ Lab is your teacher, understand how it works and forget his debates on InSight because he never leads them anywhere. The quizzes are repetitive and boring so pay attention. The exams are very long, make sure you are alert when you take them.
Do not take his class. NEVER responded to an email, or showed up to the 4 attempted meetings in his office due to him losing my test. Answers phone in class during tests. If in his class and are behind/confused DROP NOW, you will not be able to catch up. He gets mad if he is asked for any help in class or otherwise. No show for most test reviews
Mr Gueye is not an easy teacher. Exams are really hard, and he goes fast on the chapters. I thought he was disorganized but he answered to most questions and he's nice after all. A lot of personal work is needed in order to succeed. However, he'll give plenty of extra credit. You can expect a C even if you failed every single exam.
Horrible and Unorganized!
Mr. Gueye has a very hard time to really teach. He knows a lot and is a smarty, but you as a student have barely the chance to really get what's going on in front of the room. I B'd and C'd my way through his class but kept talking to him. I wrote the EC essay too and got an A on my finals. I think if you keep "bugging" him then you'll ace it
Terrible review based solely on expecting students to shell out two hundred dollars for an online module that does the work HE should be doing. I really need this class and will probably be dropping it because of this. I have no respect for professors who unnecessarily assign such ridiculously priced materials.
I disagree with most reviewers. He's very demanding, his classes are very well organized and superintensive, so take notes and you better not miss a sigle class. But I really feel I'm learning a lot and if you practice, the tests are not difficult. I got 100% for my first exam. He also explains everything many times and reviews tests thoroughly.
He is a great teacher. All you need to do is to show up in the class and pay attention. I wish I have paid more attention. He tries very hard to engage the class. You don't really need to buy any books for his class, so you can save money. His exams are difficult, but it makes you think, Overall great Professor.
Econ3 was really fun with Prof. Gueye! Lectures were very interesting and he uses great examples that his students can relate to. Take good notes b/c they are key to doing well on exams. Prof. Gueye is one of the best professors I've had at City! He is always there to help you do well and really understand the material. Very nice and fun professor!
Having a foreign accent makes this instructor a little harder to understand, however he does try to make up for it and if you are very strong in mathematics already then you will really enjoy this class as this professor will give extra credit to calculus students etc, he tends to have favorites and does not manage online homework very well.
100% self study class for the online session. Everything is completed on myeconlab. Overall easy b/c there are hw and quizzes that can boost your grade. The best part is there is more than 1 attempt for the exams and the final. Didn't buy the book and just studied from the hw and got an A for the course. take him for an easy A,,but learned nothing.
Horrible professor! If you can take this class with someone else, do it! The subject matter is challenging enough without having a professor who won't answer questions, won't provide you with any feedback, chooses a textbook that's almost indecipherable, and disappears for three weeks without an explanation. Avoid this professor!
Professor Gueye explained the material in an interesting manner. He is good at relating the Ecom theories to real business world. Professor Gueye encourages students to ask questions and participate in class discussions. He always gave students helpful feedback in a timely manner. Professor Gueye’s class stimulates my interest in economy.
He is very good at what he does and what he knows. I'm majoring in econ and math is a strong suit of mine but I'll be as unbiased. If you are just whimsically taking the class, be careful. However if you have legitamate insterest in econ, i couldn't suggest a better teacher. Take thorough notes(the test are open note), and he's really unerstanding
Prof. Gueye is very kind and passionate about economics. When you watch him teach, you can just see how much he knows his materials. I'm glad I took his last semester. He doesn't take attendance (yay us!). Open notes during tests and he also clarify exactly what's going to be on the test. Doesn't need textbook and online homework! I recommend him!
Prof. Gueye knows a lot about economics. He likes what he teaches and is also willing to help outside of the classroom. He also doesn't take attendance, allows open notes during tests and gives precise advice on each test. However, Microeconomics is a hard topic, so get ready to ask for his help. He'll be there for you!
Mr. Gueye is a wonderful teacher. Although this subject is difficult, he tries his best to explain the concept as clear as possible. Sure, he doesn't take attendance but if you miss a class, you're gonna regret it. I recommend this teacher!
BEWARE... Teacher speaks in a african/French accent so if you cant decipher people with thick accents you will be lost. He hands out worksheets does not walk you through them and then tests you on the material the next week. I feel that most of the class feels this same way and if you succede in this class it will be from teaching yourself
Professor Gueye, will go above and beyond to answer your questions. He will extend his office hours to answer your questions. He also ties in current issues to better understand the different theories learned.
INTERESTING CLASS. Especially nearing the Fiscal Cliff decision you really learn what kinds of plans there are to be set in America. Mr. Gueye is very knowledgeable and will answer all your questions. He will make the time to see you at office hours. Chill guy and funny!
His accent wasn't too hard to understand. His exams are all open-notes including the final. TAKE GOOD NOTES. The exams were hard but I believe he curves the final exam. I got mostly C's on the exams but ended up with a B for the semester. Let's you do EC term paper to boost grade. No need to buy textbook, just the access code to do online hw.
Professor Gueye has excellent experience in his field and teaches with a very simple and practical style. With basic algebra understanding, he makes Economics easy to grasp and pass.
This class was actually really hard for me. The teacher has a really thick accent and is hard to understand at first. His teaching style isn't very helpful, but he is really willing to take the extra step to help you pass the class. Nice guy, but I wouldn't recommend him as a teacher
HEAVY ACCENT BUT IF YOU READ BOOK BEFORE CLASS, YOU LL BE FINE EXTRA CREDIT AND REALLY HELPUL. YOU LL PASS THIS CLASS JUST TALK TO HIM.
Wanna get an EASY A teacher for econ 220? take his class dude!! exams are open book, ALWAYS. If you get bad score, he will give you extra bonus to make your exams look better. Homework and quiz are online. Easy. However, he is hard to understand.
Avoid taking his online course for macroeconomics. The class was very unorganized, he didn't follow the syllabus, the questions MyEconLab poses are sometimes confusing, the textbook is unclear, and worst of all -- the professor doesn't respond to emails or reply on the Insight forum either! Avoid this professors online courses.
I am not sure how he got his teaching credentials. Seriously, the worst teacher I have ever taken. He is lazy, his lectures and notes don't help at all, his grading system sucks, he doesn't review before tests or really tell you what is going to be on the test, doesn't go over the worksheets, and his accent is terrible. Worst class ever.
This was the first online class I have taken at CCSF where there was ABSOLUTELY NO interaction between the professor and the students after the first three weeks. No lecture posts, participation in discussion forum optional. Basically you teach yourself from the book online. East to ace cause it gives the option for retakes but still...
Online class/Syllabus not followed. Textbook not necessary- econlab assignments don't follow same order. If you're motivated, take quizzes/do homework on econlab and take notes and use them for tests and you'll do ok. Can redo tests as many times as you want but they are 80+ questions! No contact/direction from professor- use google as your teacher
Do not take this professor. I had to teach myself the entire class. He will make no sense and leave you more lost than when you walked him.
Worst professor I have ever had. I'm not sure how he is in a classroom setting, but definitely a no for online class. Opens materials online 3-5 days late and he doesn't give you extra time to do the work even though it was his fault. Exams are very long and he does not reply to online discussions. Almost seemed like there was no professor at all.
He is a good professor. For those commons below, just remind you guys that economic is a hard subject . You should expect to work hard and ask questions. Everyone in my class asked him questions and got solved. He is nice. It is not a easy class. Work hard, you will get an A. No complain.
Clearly answers your questions but goes through the lectures very fast.
The main concern you should have going into one of his classes is that his accent is very thick and sometimes hard to understand when lecturing. It will definitely take some time to get used to. Other than that professor gueye is a solid teacher in my opinion. He understands the material well and does a good job accommodating for student needs.
I took Econ 1 with him over the summer and he is amazing! Extremely knowledgable about the subject, & wants his students to be engaged, intrigued, and inspired. He gives lots of extra credit & second chances on assignments. He's also very understanding with deadlines and needing extensions on tests/homework. Great professor and I highly recommend!
Great teacher.
Easy A. You don't have to show up for class. All tests are easy
Interesting professor. Has a thick accent, a little disorganized, but ultimately enjoyed the class a lot? Very knowledgeable, has done postdoc work in Econ. I had him for int. Econ, spent a lot of time with him outside of class working 2 ensure an A. Taught me the most out of my 4 Econ classes. If you're actually interested in Econ, you'll like him
Very understanding of the amount of work that had to be done, so would be open to allow students to make up work and/or give extra time to finish. Extra credit was available as well. Also very open to questions.
Professor Gueye is amazing. He is very helpful and understanding when it come to his student, and he offers extra credit for students who are willing to improve their grades . Attendance is not mandatory but you have to show up in order to grasp efficiently the concepts of the course .
Professor Gueye is great teacher. Yes, he may have a thick accent and could be hard to understand him at first but ultimately, he uses his heart to teach his students. I learned a lot from him and I will never forget it. If you use your time and effort to learn from him, you'll get an A. He takes the time outside of class to help you too, just ask
He is very enthusiastic about his subject. He explains things clearly and in order. Sometimes he gets frustrated when students don't pay attention, but I think that's what a passionate professor should be.
Great instructor. Presented the information in a clear manner with good attention to detail while using many real world examples. Really enjoyed his lectures and I learned a lot.
Take his classes. You will learn a lot of economics methods with a very easy explainations.
He's so great and nice! His lecture is relaxing, and he explains everything clearly. He always asks us if we follow him and give a lot of actual examples to help us understand. One more thing here, people complain about his accent a lot. I don't think it 's a problem. English is not my first langue, and I can't understand what he says.
Awesome teacher!
Professor Souleymane is an amazing Instructor. He goes on and on in explaining the same subject until we all understand it. He is very knowledgeable and very understanding when it comes to asking his help. Be sure to attend his class, be open minded, do your homework and follow his guidelines and you will definitely get a A or a B.
Don't come to this class and expect an easy A or B. You have to work hard to earn it. Mr Souleymane is a very attentive and caring instructor. You don't need the textbook. All what you have to do is follow his instructions and you will pass the class. If students have concerns with the class material, he tries to explain it as simple as possible.
My main gripe would have to be that often when there was a mishap on the instructors side, rather than rework the timetable we would have to work within the timeframe of the syllabus; without having been instructed on the coursework prior. This could only be managed by learning by oneself, on one's own time. Essentially, you are your own teacher.
It was a challenging and demanding class but Prof. Gueye went above and beyond in order to accommodate us as a class. He was always willing to extend the due date for our exams (all take home) and help us with those exams during office hours (albeit with slightly different numbers). He was very generous with grading and there was lots of extra cred
If you can get past his accent you can pass the class. He is a good teacher by all means and he is not a tough grader.
This was a tough class. I learned a lot, but you have to put in a lot of studying and a lot of work. The homework and tests were hard and long. I spent most of my time last semester working on this class and Econ 3 (same professor). This was a remote course and there was no zoom component. Professor Gueye was good at responding back to emails.
Overall this class was okay. The Professor was easy to reach. Lot of quizzes so be prepared. You do have to buy an access code also. Teacher was really nice so I'd take again.
prof Gueye is underated. His accent is a little heavy; however, he is alway answer all questions asap. Oftentimes, he answers email immediately. You don't have to attend his meeting unless you have question. Reading the book would be good enought to obtain knowledge. His homework is very great and give out good practice. I strongly recommned him.
Firstly, my main gripe with this professor is the many times he has made an error with Canvas assignments, and proceeds to change the due date/time last minute. Other than that, homework is pretty easy and tests are parallels to the homework. Graphing sucks though because if one item is misaligned, you will not get credit for the graphing section.
Do not attend her class. Every student used the pronto app. We asked questions at pronto she said to send me a canvas inbox so I send a message her response took a long back to me. No teaching. I learned by myself. No organized.
Good professor. there are 16 HW assignments and 4 exams. Be prepared for the exams as they are challenging. He only responds on canvas and the grading for his class is good for the students.
Terrible professor! I had a very bad online experience with this class. Does not give ANY instruction at all. Her class is messy and changes dates last minute or gives homework incredibly long last minute. If you have a lot of responsibilities in your life DO NOT take this class because it will mess up your GPA.
Simply easy
His accent is heavy but understandable. The lectures were definitely understandable and simplified information of the material. Although this class has a textbook, he simplifies formulas and dumbs everything down during the lectures for a better overall understanding. However, do be careful on asking questions as he does have a short temper.
Do not take this class online. There is no instruction or lectures. He provides 'lectures' in PowerPoint files which contain only short bullet points with no explanation. You will need to read an extremely dry textbook and teach yourself everything. This class was so bad I changed my major away from something requiring economics. Stay far away.
The class is frustrating because the instructors do not seem very interested in teaching it and do not reply to my emails. There are no equations included in the lesson plan or slides, so I am using their e-textbook to teach myself the course. Because I have no help from the professor, she doesn't answer emails at all. Don't take this course.
👎 Handwriting SUCKS & has an accent that can be difficult to understand. Gets things wrong often and has to be corrected by students. Last semester had inclass exams, but so far 3 of 4 exams this semester were take home. Idk how it would be possible to finish exams during class time, too time consuming. Doesn't input grades until end of semester
Continuation of previous review. Class can be hard bc of all the equations/calculations, so take good notes, pay attention, and do the provided practice problems. Assigns HW sometimes, hands back exams after grading, but not the hw. Don't even know if he grades hw because he doesn't input grades on canvas until the end. class was ok but tedious
Honestly don't feel like I learned anything. Pearson can be difficult to use. Sometimes the questions don't even make sense for the articles they link to. Easy to pass.
