I took four classes from Spencer and I loved every one of them Social Psych was definitely the roughest and Intermountain West was the most entertaining. Take Int. West in the Summer and enjoy the camping trip! Overall a great teacher, highly recommended!!

Prof. Blake is just and awesome teacher. He keeps the lessons entertaining and the tests are fair and easy enough if you actually listen to the lectures (which are incredibly fun to listen to anyway)

Professor Blake is really funny and he makes every class interesting and very entertaining. I learn so much from his class, and I don't even really have to spend that much time studying outside of class. You learn easily because you're having so much fun

I love Spencer's classes. He is very clear in his approach, the material is easy to understand, but challenging enough for you to learn. I have had him for three classes in Sociology, and the only thing I have to gripe about him is that he goes over the same stuff in 1010, 1020, and 2600. It can get a little boring, but other than that I've learned tons in the class. I highly recommend him to anyone going to SLCC for just generals

Spencer is my favorite professor ever. If possible take a class from him. They're a lot of fun. Warning though-some people change majors to take more. You need to know a lot for tests but I've never had a professor make it so clear what you should know. He makes it easy to study and get 100%. He's super friendly and might even set you up on a date.

This was the easiest class I've ever had, and that includes Kindergarden. I just had to show up and listen to some of the funnest lectures of my life and take three simple tests on them. And he reviews right before the tests. I mean come on how much better can it get. But I really learned here too. I still remember all of it.

Blake's very clear and even though he says to read the text, there is really no need to since everything is explained in his lectures. Not boring at all and there are no homework assignments, only 3 exams and a final (which doesnt hurt the grade, kinda like xtra credit in a sense) and very friendly, will answer any questions you have.

Tooke the intro Sociology class from him and loved it. Social Psychology is even better and the teacher is still great. Even though the class isn't in my major, Blake still teaches things that are relevant to life in general. The class is relatively easy and still no homework. It's great!

Great teacher, great personality, he makes the class fun. It is lecture style, however, participation is strongly encouraged. NOt an easy A, but you have to work to fail. Highly reccomended.

After 7 years of college, Blake is still my FAVORITE!! He makes class FUN and highly useful in everyday life!! I took multiple classes of his, and wish I could go back for more!! He is extremely knowledgeable in the subject he teaches, enjoys being there and it shows.

After taking his Sociology 1010 class, I fell in love with Sociology and switched it to my major from Psychology. Professor Blake is by far the best professor I have had at SLCC throughout my experience thusfar. Even for an Intro Soc class, it was rather interesting and enlightening. I highly reccommend taking his class!

Professor Blake's Sociology 2400 class was amazing. I learned so much. The class was very unstructured which I really liked. It let me learn a lot about the things I found most interesting and I really thought it was an effective way to learn.

Spencer is by far my favorite prof. He's awesome! His 2400 class is more of a History class, but he still makes it interesting! You have to earn your own grade and you pick what all you will do to earn your grade. I'm not a huge fan of this class, simply because I'm not a big History fan either... But he's still an amazing teacher. :)

I adore this man! I would take any class he taught. He is fair and funny and makes everything he teaches interesting and applicable. He loves his subject and it shows. Take good notes and enjoy the ride - I'm a little sad that I'm almost done with his class.

If someone pays attention in class and studies twenty minutes a day an A+ will not be a problem. Funny, thought provocative, and entertaining. It was the only class I never fell asleep in.

Why go to the U, when you have great professor's like Blake at SLCC? Very well structures class. Attendance is completely not necessary (if you study really hard), but I would highly recommend, thought provoking. Blake is very good at challenging your thinking. If you took out the credits the class would still be worth what you learn.

Honestly, I wish this man tought every one of my classes. I'd be set for straight A's if that were the case. He makes textbook information exciting, interesting, and hilarious. There's a strong possibility I'm going to major in Sociology now thanks to Blake. I strongly recommend this class.

I have taken SOC 1010, 1900 and 2400 from Spencer. I will be finishing at SLCC this spring - and I can honestly say he has been the greatest professor I have had. He truly is an amazing teacher. Other Soc prof's cannot even compare. I wish he still taught 1020, it would have been much better with him teaching this semester. I absolutely love him!:)

He is a very good teacher and will not waste your time silly assigments. You do not need to agree with him. It will not affect your grade. He really knows the material and his explanations are very clear. One of the few teachers that I have had at SLCC who did not discriminate.

As long as you go to class and do your readings this is the easiest class, you only have 3 tests all semester and he drops your lowest test score out of the 3, his lectures are very entertaining, I looked forward going to class!

I took Blake for my intro class and for the Sociology of the Intermountain west class. He's absolutely phenomenal. This class is more challenging than his 1010 class. You are assigned different sections to do assignments from, but once you complete one from each, you are free to earn your points however you want. Very involved and worth taking!

By the end of the semester you want to say " yes, we get it. women, right?" but he's an easy, laid back interesting professor. If you are in any SLCC sport, you get extra attention! He has his faults, but I apparently like him enough to be taking 2 more classes with him in the Fall.

I wish there were professors like Spencer at 4-year schools! I truly miss what an incredible teacher he is. If you are even remotely thinking about taking any Sociology calss from him, do it! I've taken both Intro Sociology and his Marriage and Family Relationships class. His intro class is fairly easy, he gives you everything you need to know for the test. If you take another class of his, be warned you will have to figure out what will be on the tests. If you put the effort into studying for any class, you will get the grade you want.

Best teacher I've ever had for any subject in any school. Prof. Blake gives a lecture each class period and is very good about telling you exactly what you need to know for tests. You're expected to read the corresponding chapters in the book as well but I rarely did and I got perfect scores on his tests.

I have taken both 1010 & 2600 from Blake. This was interesting because for the first month I had him, I hated his guts! He comes across as a jerk, but he's not! He is a really REALLY good professor, he teaches well, preps you for tests well, and you will learn A LOT! Take him and hang for a while, he is worth it!

A very fun and interactive class. I learned a lot by just listening to his lectures. You've to take notes and read the textbook to ace the tests. Overall, being in his class was an amazing experience. All teachers should teach the same way he does. Just lecture and discuss and have three exams (plus a final to change an exam grade). AMAZING!

Entertaining, while being very informative. He's also very fair in his grading. Once he gave me points I actually got wrong and I told him. His reply was, "you won't suffer for being honest and for my mistake, keep the points". EPIC WIN! Highly recommended!

Professor Blake was my favorite teacher at SLCC. The class is discussion based, and Blake plans his lectures to be interactive with the students. Reading the book is helpful,but test questions come directly from lectures. This was actually a fun class to attend though. I would definetly take another class from him.

When i first started this class i was going to transfer out because i was a bit intimidate by him. But as i went along i actually really liked him, and the class was really fun. All you have to do is go to class, take notes and study 3x5 cards. There was also no homework, which was nice.

The professor is a great one. He is okay with old and new version of book. READ READ READ your chapters he assigns you. Participation is a factor and a must. Straight forward, doesn't beat around the bush. Multiple tests and a final. Great professor and class to enroll in.

Spencer is very no-nonsense and keeps things simple: a few tests and a final. No busy work. He will tell you exactly what he will test you on--so attending lecture and taking notes is a MUST. He's pretty funny, and tends to shock people-- but that's part of what makes his lectures so good. Really enjoyed the class.

The class is graded on tests only. Each test is 100 questions of multiple choice, true/false, matching, and definitions, with extra credit available. Prof. Blake is a little bit sexist but the lectures are engaging. You're not required to go to class for a grade, but he tells you everything you need to know in class - don't have to read the book.

Spencer Blake is hands down the best professor I've yet to have. I've taken two of his classes, both of which, I've thoroughly enjoyed. He genuinely cares about his students and it shows. He's a wonderful professor. He normally has 3-4 tests, all of which are reasonable in difficulty, and sometimes a paper, but that is all that you are graded on.

His lectures are great. Never wanted to miss a class. Notes/flashcards are important. It is important to study hard for the test.

Blake is one of the BEST professors I've ever had. GO TO CLASS; attendance is not mandatory, but it's the easiest way to learn. Book was not necessary, but I found mine on amazon for like $7. His lectures are extremely interactive, if you share an opinion, he will pummel it to shreds so have thick skin. If you don't like attention, sit in the back.

You can tell he's really invested in soc, just sucks our class was so early so not much participation. I would say to take his class later in the day for a more lively class. Grades are from 3 exams so study. Other than that he's a good prof.

Prof. Blake is by far the best professor I've ever had! He makes the lectures fun and he is kinda quirky but super cool. Only 3 tests and a final. Don't have to take the final if you like your grades on the first 3 tests. Go to class, take notes, and you're golden. Textbook isn't really needed but useful for extra studying for the tests.

overall pretty great class.... you have to go or you won't pass..... haven't even picked up the textbook and still got a good grade from notecards.

Spencer Blake was an easy to understand professor in every aspect. His methods of teaching really connected with me. He uses plenty of examples to get the terms he is teaching across. Blake is also a very confident professor, which personally helped me feel like he knew what he was talking about through and through.

Blake's lectures are fantastic, he makes sure to use examples that will stick in your brain, super engaging. I learned so much in this class and he did a great job of explaining different points of view without taking sides. No homework, 3 tests and an optional final, he gives you all the information you need in the lectures.

Its tough to find a teacher that actually teaches you something. Prof Blake is among the few that does. He has an excellent way of engaging you and his lectures stick with you long after class is over. Thought I wouldnt care about this class but he made it all super interesting. My advice: do yourself a favor and go to every class. Hes worth it.

Great class and great teacher! I took this class for an elective, and absolutely loved it. Yes, lecture heavy, but very entertaining and informative. Tells you exactly what will be on the tests, so go. You'll get an A if you actually read the book. 3 tests & the final, but drops the lowest grade. Gives a new perspective of thinking.

I really enjoyed Professor Blake's class! He understands that you are taking this class for your generals and isn't pushing Sociology on you but is open to talking to you more about it. He is very understanding and will help you to understand the material. He can be intimidating or intense at first, but after a few classes he is great!

4 exams including the accumulative final. Thats all your grade is based on. Great professor. Theres times hell stumble on a word however it was always in context where you already knew what he was trying to say. Create a good note taking system, study well, go to class and youll pass with an A.

Blake is a fantastic teacher, really knows his stuff. Hes a bit harsh at first but hang in there. the class gets better after the first week. Grade is just based on 3 tests and an optional final, easy class. Plus hes pretty hot for a guy in his 50s. Just saying :P

Prof. Blake is a good professor. Pretty much straight lecture but he doesn't use notes or PPT, just the occasional note on the board. He tends to single a few students out in the class for most of the semester for examples (mostly because he only remembers a few peoples' names). Show up, skim the book, and take decent notes and you'll do great.

This was a very enjoyable class. I was usually one of the top scorers on the test because I never missed a day and studied for the tests. If you don't attend the lectures it would be very hard to pass the class. Your grade is based off of 3 tests. There is no final unless you want to try to get a better grade.

I really enjoyed his teaching style although it seemed like there was never enough time in class for questions:( Your grade is based on 3 tests (100 points) or an optional final (200pts) if you take all 3 tests. You can average out the grade of the 3 tests or take the grade of the final.

Mr. Blake doesnt really have a filter but thats not necessarily a bad thing. Hes pretty hilarious. I enjoyed his class and would take another from him. I really wish he made more time for questions though. It kinda seems like no one in my class got the full extent of their questions answered.

Professor Blake was awesome! His classes are always very well prepared and he gives you all the information you need for his exams. He doesn't grade participation, but if you don't show up you'll miss some important points. I would suggest going to his classes because they are always really fun and he will teach you fascinating stuff.

One of my favorite professors. Some of the things he says is just great ha, can be raw, but useful information that you'll use in your life. Shows interest in who you are by noticing small details, and asking probing questions. The book is a lot to read, but not overly complicated text. This class gave me a new perspective. I would recommend him.

AMAZING

Professor Blake may come off a bit arrogant or overbearing, but he is passionate about Sociology and makes it a very interesting class every time. The best way to get a good grade in this class is to make flashcards for the vocabulary and organize them into chapters. Overall, I'm grateful I took this course, even if it didn't end up counting.

Best college professor I've ever had (and I've attended 3 different colleges over the years). He is funny, he really knows the subject he teaches, and he makes it interesting! The content was SO easy to learn because he helps you memorize and relate it to life. Grade is based on the 2 tests and optional final. If you study, the tests are not bad.

He has three tests and one final. If you score high enough on the tests you do not need to take the final. Some questions on the tests come from the book but it is not required to have to pass the class. No papers but lectures every day.

By far one of the best professors i've had. If you have to take his class for sociology, attendance will not be mandatory, but it will hurt you in the long run. Everyday is a new lecture, so it has a lot of information that will be on your test. So be ready to take a lot notes as well.

Besides a bit of older humor he was a hilarious and presented the material really well. Grades are made up of 3 tests, but you have an option to replace a low score with the final (which is optional). The tests are T/F, multiple choice, and matching; pretty easy as long as you show up to class, take good notes, and skim the textbook before class.

I absolutely loved the way that his class was formatted. Only 3 tests throughout the semester and the final is optional. That IS IT. If you don't test well definitely avoid this class, but the lectures are amazing and definitely worth it. Professor Blake is funny and great at teaching the material.

I loved Professor Blake! The modules were the same every week - chapters to read and then a discussion post. He would comment on every post when he graded, making sure you understand the concept each week. The exams aren't too difficult if you read through the textbook right before. I would definitely take another class from him again.

If you take good notes and do the reading you can easily pass the tests. He gave three exams and those were the only things on my grade. There are extra credit opportunities though.

Professor Blake loves it when students participate and will often connect lectures to students or his own life. His lectures follow the textbook very closely so as long as you show up or read the textbook, you'll be prepared. Grades are dependent on the average of 3 tests or a score on the final. The "homework assignments" are meant as extra credit

The only class ive taken where the lectures are actually interesting. He takes sociology and implements it into how it would affect your life, super funny and understanding. 3 exams that make up your grade. He explains out what types of questions will be in the exams

Make sure to attend class. Studying for the tests is super easy just go on the canvas module and make flash cards about everything in the rubric.

Easy class if you do a little bit of studying. Lectures are very interesting and Prof. Blake finds a way to connect every conversation back to the soc. topic being discussed. He doesn't shy away from serious topics, but is considerate about your thoughts or opinions on the matter. He makes the way he grades very clear. Would take this class again.

I was skeptical of him at first, but Professor Blake is the greatest. He is passionate and gives amazing lectures. He uses students in class as examples of what he's teaching, be sure to participate because it makes his lectures better. I really feel I am missing out by not taking more of his classes. Take him you won't regret it.
