hes a cool guy, shows enthusiasm even if he looks really tired
He's really funny and nice
good teacher, funny speaking, ask him to talk about life back home..
Classroom size: 250. This teacher somehow manages to keep everything under control and interesting. Loves to throw in humor with his lectures which helps create a better atmosphere. I'm not sure about other courses but definately worth taking for 1st year classes.
very chill teacher! He was my favorite professor in first year.
Funny teacher
exams are very similar to past ones, i liked the way he bashed the english class
Great teacher, great personnality! He tells you exactly how to prepare for midterms and exams, and never throws any surprises! If you work hard, this class is an easy A.
Good professor. Keeps class interested by adding some light humor to his lectures. Fair exam and good presentations overall.
Professor St. Amant is really funny which makes attending the class a lot more fun :)
funniest cutest teacher ever
I love this prof even if I don't like the class too much! He is a great prof and does all of his DGDs which is simply fanstastic. He makes me laugh every class. The exams can be hard but do the practices and you can pass.
Do all the practice tests and get 90+ easily. They are literally identical as the tests, with very minor differences.
I am surprise that all the previous people said it was easy. Yes he does give previous exams, but it is so hard to remember all the material. It is a very tough class if your not a chem genius, but it's still not too bad of a class. It's extremely hard, you have to work SO hard to get good results or even pass for that matter.
Very funny teacher, very interesting to listen to. Like mentionned before, if you work hard and do the trial exams recommended, this class is an easy A.
St-Amant is a really funny teacher, good in the DGD's, but goes a bit fast in class.
The class itself is hard enouph because of the amount of information you have to learn. But St-Amant makes it a lot easier by helping you with graded homework, giving you old exam and the solutions (all exams are pretty much the same). The labs helps a lot too to put your grade up. Even if you fail your final he will pass you if your average is 50+
Super awesome prof! He ran his own DGDs, made sure everyone understood, even answered the really obvious questions from that one really annoying person in class. All I did to study was do the practice midterms and exams. (Didn't even have time to do the homework "au fur et au mesure"..) He's great. Fun to listen to, just shut up in class.
Went to his classes just for fun. I wasnt in his section. Hes my secret boyfriend.
Uhmmm, Ok:(thumbs up) s'accroche dans le téléphone.
Vous etes un ane! Shhhhht... hmmmmm... Shhhhhhhhh...Ok...Not funny, Not cute. Can't teach to save his life.
Hes a funny guy. And a good teacher. His exams are all posted online, and he gives basically the same mid-terms and final exams every year. His DGDs are helpful, explains in detail and is always available to help you. HE READS YOUR COMMENTS HERE BE AFRAID GOD HES ONTO ALL OF US AND HE KNOWS WHAT YOU THINK OF HIM AND ARAGRHGRHRGHRAGRHAGHRGAR
Very good teacher everything is online ... He count the best out of your midterms . Take his time explaining
One of the best teachers yu can ever find! He explains everything so well and the best part is that he's such a funny dude u laugh so much in his class! Highly recommended :D
Saint-Amant is a really funny teacher, so NO you won't fall asleep in his class even if you don't find chemistry interesting. He is really helpful in DGDs. I bought the 2 chem books, and they are completely useless to me.. but if chem isn't "your world" I strongly suggest you do. Lots of examples to do. practice exams available online (10 of each)
Good professor, however the only high point of his class is when he makes a little joke or tells a funny story, other than that, you're struggling to stay awake (especially at 8:30 a.m). Review the past exams and you will do good.
I did not like this prof, he was the last one to show up to class and always the first to leave. He always talked really fast and he did not explain things very clearly. If you review the past exams you should do ok on the mid-terms and final, good luck.
Good Teacher although, the class is difficult. Attending class is important in order to understand what the teacher wants!
Excellent and very organized prof. All the notes are online, and crystal clear. He tends to speak a little fast sometimes, but just read the notes and you'll be fine. He gives you all the past midterms and finals, so just practice those and you should do great. He's also very funny during the lectures.
He was a good prof and he was really funny, maybe for him to improve is to change the course outline for those who hasn't done the highest chemistry in college (CEGEP) or in high school. Even though I end up getting more help at the end. I would said don't take his class if you knew to get the minimum of 65% for the nursing program for Ottawa U.
A very organized prof that replies to emails almost instantaneously. The 'uuh, OK, shhh' could be toned down though. Midterms and exams are really close to previous years' exams (maybe a little harder), but you should be okay if you practice and do all the homework! No single reference to the textbook which was PERFECT! Overall, recommended. :)
No text book, previous exams are on the web and helps a lot! DGD's are the only place where you actually do actual numbers that are on the exam since in class its a lot of theory... You'll probably wanna fall sleep especially on those 8:30 classes
Not a bad teacher!!
VERY NICE AND FUNNY GUY!!
Good Prof! Witty. Is really helpful and good in DGD's. Previous exams are posted online and are extremely helpful! Difficult class, so attending is very beneficial. If french is not your first language, he is a good prof to have, super easy to follow! No textbook needed which is great.
His french is weird since he from Manitoba, might not understand some points hes trying to get across. Dont bother going to the DGDs since you can just listen to the podcasts online. Exams he posts are very helpful and almost identical to the ones he gives. A lot of material from this class is review from high school chemistry with few other things
Not too bad of a teacher. His TAs suck though.
It was excellent that we didn't have to waste money on a textbook we wouldn't necessarily use. Also, he not only posted all the old exams (from 2000 onwards), but he made sure everyone knew exactly which questions were the same year to year.
Great Teacher, Very helpful. His course is fairly hard, but he gives you a LOT of resources so you can practice a lot. I'm glad I had this teacher for my only chemistry course.
He doesn't use a textbook, he is confusing, doesn't explain well and took away the discussion groups. I did not enjoy his class!
First of all, you learn everything online which is boring. All you do in class are lecture tools. He is not the best at explaining things, you must figure everything out practically on your own. Also he took away the DGD which help. For his midterms and exams, he tells you to practice the ones from the previous yearend you're all set. It's a LIE.
He is really funny, makes the class laugh a lot. This year he decided to format of everything on us, and it did not benefit the class since he kept saying the average was lower. Midterms are alright, final is a lot harder. I don't think the podcasts are a good idea, classes were just pointless.
Listen to Podcasts, take notes, attend class, do the questions for each chapter and make sure you understand them, also do as many practice tests as you can and if something is not clear, theres a Facebook group where other students are willing to help. great class in general, very well organized!
In sum, a very experienced professor. Though there are no tutorials, I felt like class time was longer because you need to listen to podcasts prior to lectures. My advice, to succeed in his course is to practise for midterms with previous exams! He posts everything online which is very convenient! Very organized and has a sense of humour.
The teacher is great and very clear. He's very knowledgeable and I would recommend his class. The website is awesome to prepare yourself for quiz and exams. The material on the podcast is going to help you in the class. Great class and learned a lot, but be sure to study if you want good grades :)
Awesome website! However, having to watch 1 h podcast before every lecture is very time consuming and boring. He uses his lecture time to go over examples and no theory. Challenging course since he changed the evaluation format this year compared to the past exams he did online. Do your homework and work hard on labs, that'll boost your average!
Very funny
One of the best profs I've ever had. Very down to earth, tries to make class stimulating with LectureTools (online multiple choice for extra points), really wants you to succeed, very approachable. His lectures are podcasts online which sometimes pile up and can be very dry but it's worth it having him as a prof.
To be honest, he is a nice guy but I hated him as a professor. Everything is online and you basically have to watch the podcasts and do everything yourself. It's extremely time-consuming and not something you want to do when you have 4 other hard classes. Going to lectures are almost pointless because he teaches you nothing. Just practice yourself.
Best teacher I have ever had, keeps chem interesting
Funny and chill teacher. Found he would go through the material really fast, but he was always happy to help you and answer questions if something was unclear.
Teacher has the ability to keep students interested and awake in his classes due to his humor and interactive pop quizzes via the website ''Lecture Tools''. However, I realized that most people who were understanding the lectures already knew the material before hand. If you don't know the material, better study online instead of attending classes.
He keeps making jokes to make the class more interesting
He chirps students with stupid questions, best part!
My favorite prof in first year. He is funny and clear. He enjoys to chirp kids.
Midterms and final exams dating all the way back to 2001 posted online with solutions for study purposes. The way to pass this class with a good grade; don't miss lectures, do the online work, and do ALL of the past corresponding midterms. Excellent prof, the rest is just sitting back and listening to him pick on people, quite hilariously actually
He's fun to listen to and keeps the lectures relaxed. however he has 3 tests before the finals and it's very difficult to predict your grade afterwards. let's just say not many people got good grades. the lectures are not mandatory but he does ask questions throughout that are worth 10% of the final grade. no in class dgd only online
He's one of those profs who lectures badly but gives great online resources. 14 yrs worth of corrected exams to practice from! He's a fair marker. His DGD's are online which is perfect if you don't live on campus, or just want to review what he said. Online homework is easy! NO TEXTBOOK :D You won't regret taking a his class!
The teacher is good, but you need a personnal work .The bad thing is that it doesn't have a DGD, even if there was on-ligne it isn't like when you do it in a classroom. and the use of lecturetools help .
Overall the class is pretty easy. He gives the students access to all the tests from previous years which are basically identical to the ones he gives. He also does a lot of examples and always answers his emails. He's very helpful, however, his teaching is kind of confusing and as a visual learner I found that I had a lot of trouble following.
He let you know exactly what you had to do to get an A in his class. He gave three opportunities for writing a midterm and only 2 of them would count (best two obviously). He made podcasts so that you would look over the material, then in class he would go over them and do examples. All of his classes are online so you can review what you missed.
Hilarious prof and easiest A in a science class you will probably ever have. If you were worried about 1st year chemistry, stop because you will be fine. Pros: lectures online (in video format!), tests online (all the way from 2000!), tests are always the same as past years, lots of examples (online dgds!). Cons: uhh no real dgds, I guess.
Nice teacher but awful notes Thinks you're the problem because he's been teaching the class for over 10 years
Goes through lessons really fast without explaining it.
Personnaly, I think the lectures are completely useless because you can't understand anything when he explains. His explanations (if you can even call it an explanation) are bad and incomplete. I feel like it's easy stuff that I've learned before but he makes it seems so hard.
Super easy to approach, his grading is fair and his exams are too. His explanations are kinda clumsy, but his online DGDs are very usefull!
I found this St-Amant gives really good lectures. However, some of the harder material which is harder to grasp was rushed, but we spent more time on easier concepts like Lewis structures than on the harder stuff. We didn't get to cover all the material towards the end of the semester, which is too bad since I will definitely take more chem classes
Awesome Professor! His lectures are awesome. Everything you need to succeed is online and if you practice the past exams and midterms, you will end up with a really good mark. If I could, I would definitely take his class again. A+
Mr St-Amant was honestly a great prof. I passed with a decent grade although I am not the strongest in chemistry. He is always willing to help and really cares about the students success. Great prof! I strongly recommend him! :)
He does a great job teaching such a big class (400 people) You need to go to class to answer the LectureTools questions (which is an easy 10%) All of the past exams are online, and the exams are almost exactly the same, so if you do all past exams then you should do well. The hard part is the labs. Email the prof, he always answers & explains
Very helpful! He gives you all the midterms and finals since 2000 so there are no surprises. He also has online DGD's which can be useful. It's also easy to do well. You get up to 10 % for showing up and answering Lecture tool questions, 10 % for quick weekly online homework (with unlimited tries), labs are quite easy, etc.
He is very helpful! You can have access to all the midterms and finals since 2000. Online DGD's are bless. Has online homework due weekly that are simple and explains mostly how they are done in the DGD's. He will answer your e-mail VERY QUICKLY. Whether it's 11:45pm Friday and the homework is due at 11:59pm or 2:37am Monday, he answers. LOVE him
I loved this teacher, he knows his stuff really well and explains it well too. He gives you access to every exam from the last 15 years, with the corrected copies and podcasts explaining the tougher questions, so studying for exams is easy. He grades fairly, is very helpful and pretty funny too!
Lots of past exams to practise with and they are basically the same as the next exam
Great prof but his notes doesn't make sense other that the online exams, do those and you can get a easy A. Would suggest the textbook only so you can get notes in class. Good luck
Very chill
AMAZING. Lots of options. You cant fail this class
Best prof I've had in my whole life, seriously is it even possible to fail with this guy as your teacher ? So many resources, he even films his own classes so you can stay home and watch Breaking Bad (or not) .......... Anyways, I strongly recommend this guy for your chemistry class !
Merveilleux!
Great prof, but his notes aren't clear enough though. Give the exams of the past 20 years and it's often the same questions, just make sure that you understand the concept clearly and not just the question as he often change the thing you need to find in the new exams.
He does doesn't teach, he just reads his slides. Students that don't already know the concepts will have a hard time because he doesn't explain them. The labs are boring and the reports take a while to write but you can get a very high mark for the lab component, which boots your final grade. He answers emails really fast which is helpful.
I loved how he gave us A LOT of practice numbers and the exams and mid terms from the previous years. Awesome resources on the course website to help understand. Easy grades but you gotta work for them!
Don't even bother looking over the lectures. Practice doing the midterms and exams on his website, he reuses the same questions every year. You will do really well if you just understand how to answer the questions.
I guess he's a good teacher, but I don't like him as a person. He made me hate chem so much that I changed my programm. Everytime that someone says something stupid or give a bad answer he was like ''oh you must be in engeneering''. It's funny once, but not like every single class get over it. He puts all the previous tests online so it's easy.
Good prof, he likes lecture tool.
Prof St-Amant is truly the greatest professor in the world, he's always super happy to talk to his students and is always ready to help you out. Whenever you need help, just email him and he usually answers in less than 2 hours. He gives you access to all his exams with the right answers up to the year 2000 so you can practice all you want. amazing
Great prof, he's chill and gives you all the tools you need to succeed. DO PAST EXAMS.
Actually the best prof for gen chem. He has a website, outside of virtual campus, that has everything you would ever need in this course - practice questions and podcast solutions, over 15 years of old exams and midterms, online discussion groups where HE actually explains the material and answers the questions. His assignments are really easy, too
Honestly, great man. He is super passionate about chemistry which makes the class that is otherwise quite boring nice. Attendance is not necessary, he records his classes on echo 360 which are accessible online as well as some explanatory DGDs that are super helpful! He has a website "CHM 1711" which has absolutely everything you need for his class
Professor St-Amant is a great professor when it comes to teaching a first year class. He tells you exactly what he expects for midterms and finals and even gives you past exams to practice with. Enjoyable class. Very passable even for those who dont necessarily like chemistry.
Amazing Prof! He really cares about his students and gives good pointers! He gives all his time to insuring that students understand (DGD). Works on problems in class. Lots of opportunities to boost your average: online questions, weekly quizes, lab and 2 out of 3 midterms can count. Every time I've talked to him, he was inviting and so kind!
Amazing prof, the university should really adopt his website style: its extremely simple and everything is on one page. He records all his classes audio/video and he responds to emails extremely quickly. All previous year's tests are available on his website, they're the best way to study for this class.
He is an amazing chem prof. He gives lots of opportunities for you to do well. There are assignments (unlimited retries) which are worth 10%. All of his past exams are on his websites which are ALL you need to do for exam prep. Attendance isn't mandatory, but recommend so you can do echo360 worth 5%. 3 midterms and you can drop your worst one!!!
HE'S LITERALLY THE BEST PROFE IN THE ENTIRE WORLD. HE GIVE THE SAME MIDTERMS AND FINALS EVERY YEAR. HE'S ALWAYS THERE WHEN YOU NEED HIM AND ANSWERS EMAIL QUICK QUICK. IF YOU TAKE THIS CLASS YOULL DEF PASS IT
Honestly the best employee in faculty of science
Chem is not an easy A, but he gives you all the ressources you could need! His website has countless video tutorials, practice problems, all the notes in advance, he records all the lectures, etc, etc. Real funny guy and wants you to do well!
tu peux avoir des points vraiment facilement ( echo360, labster, TA, ...)
He gives you all the ressources but his exams might seem the same but he tricks you... couldnt wait to be done with this class
St Amand is a good prof. He always makes it known what's on the exam and exactly what he's grading. He has all the past year exams online so you have a good idea what to expect for his midterms. He has a good sense of humor and knows a lot about chemistry and if you ever have a question, he will reply to your email in no time! I recommend him.
Best prof in the faculty of science. University is so lucky to have him. Hope they make him the dean of under graduate studies. What a gem, thank you
St-Amant is a great professor. I love how he has so many options for the grade ponderation. Plus, his website is so well organized with exams from the past 19 years and so much more! Plus, he rounds up the grades up to 1 % if everyone does the teacher evaluation. He's also very accessible. However, I felt like I had to teach myself this class.
Vice-Dean/Prof. Alan-St Amant online chem course was pure self-effort where he has the same format for midterms/exam but changes up the numbers and marks very hard if you forget to do something in a question. Either get the question right for full marks or get very low (undeserving) part marks.
The worst prof ever! I tried to set up a personal meeting with him several times, but he always refused. Frequently doesn't respond to emails. He forgot to post 2 last lectures online, and they were still tested on the final. He forgot to set up the online discussion group. I took the class in the summer, online. My CGPA was 9.1, now 8.5.
This guy is serious about chem all while being the furthest thing from serious. Chill guy, hilarious, and motivational. Put the work in and you'll be fine.
Not a good prof. His website is amazing but he is terrible. Its a shame he has to teach most chem classes. Good luck if youre stuck with him
He's the best chimical teacher I've ever had!!!! if you have any problem just send him a message.
Awesome prof! His website has a bunch of old midterms so if you study from those you should be good. Definitely quite a lot of work with his weekly homework questions, 3 midterms and a cumulative final but it works in your favour
he's aight
He's a really good prof, you just really have to work for it but you have all the resources on the site and he answer emails really quickly! Overall nice guy!
Fun teacher, explains very well and treats his students with a lot of respect.
Very hard class but the prof is amazing. Super helpful, has countless resources available to students like video tutorials, website, practice exams... DO THE PRACTICE EXAMS they are soooo similar to the exams! Best advice I can give. Prof keeps class interesting with Kahoot sort of questions too lol. Teaches really well even though content is hard.
Last year I had a bad teacher and honestly sucked at chem and because of that, I hated the class. But this year Prof St-Amant has actually made me like chemistry, he genuinely wants you to succeed and gives you soooo many resources to do so. If you do the work and do as many practice tests as possible before tests you will do fine. Great prof!
Do the practice midterm on his website, they are really helpful.
He's really nice. DO THE PRACTICE EXAM they are so helpful
Amazing professor, he really does care about his students and has their best interest in mind. He's very understanding especially towards the whole online situation. His classes are organized and you will always know exactly what to expect on midterms and exams.
By far my favorite prof for my first term of uni. He offers a simple and easy transition from hs classes to university ones and sincerely cares about all of his students and their success. Always answers emails the same day. Doing the practice tests on his website is definitely the best preparation. If you succeeded in hs, you'll ace this class.
The best teacher Ive had this semester. A real gem. He really wants you to succeed and he puts up all of his exam on his website. Labster and TA are really free point. I wished he was teaching another Chem class.
He is the best prof I've had all semester. Both of our online labs and our online assignments had unlimited tries which is a free 30% added to your grade if you work for it. The professor himself is great and explains very well. Lots of work but easy A in the small assignments but his midterms are long so be prepared
Amazing prof! Provides you with ALL the tools to succeed in this class as long as you put in the effort; Attend his classes, attend his DGD's or at least watch the recordings PRACTICE OLD EXAMS (key to your success). Always available to answer questions and his sense of humour makes the class a lot more fun! highly recommend.
honestly this prof ain't it sis. his class is a joke. it's so easy because all you need to do to get an A+ is practice the previous exams that are posted on his website. his explanations aren't the best and he's boring (kinda rude too), but his class is so easy.
midterm and final are very similar to the practice exam. Take advantage to the fact hes giving us acces to his old exam and answer key.
I took an asynchronous class and I'm glad I chose this class. His exams are straightforward, provides lots of ways to practice, his grading is fair and tries to help out as much as possible. The course material was neatly organized into modules and it made it easy to comprehend concepts. Highly recommend this Prof!
My favourite prof so far. He very clearly wants his students to succeed, and gives lots of opportunities to do so. He posts all previous midterms and exams so you know exactly what to practice. His notes were well-explained and easy to follow. He made himself available to answer questions, and answered emails promptly. TAKE HIS COURSE.
He genuinely cares about his students and will take the time to help you if you go to office hours. Use the old exams he gives you!
Best prof I had this semester, he gives you access to all the past midterms and exams which follow the exact same structure/format every time so you know exactly what to expect when you reach the exam. He's a STEM student's wet dream, take him if you get the chance!! He truly cares for students as well, always nice, but he doesn't take crap
he has a bit of attitude sometimes, but always answers emails. He grades on so mnay things and there are SOOO many ways to get a good grade! He gives old midterms/exams which are EXACTLY like the ones you will get.
Very good prof.
This prof was a blessing to have for my first term of university. If you did well in high school chemistry, you will have no problem. Attendance is important since there are interactive quizzes during lectures that are for marks. No labs, just online simulations which were honestly fun. Attend the DGDs before every exam and you will ace them.
Great prof, really hard to fail this class
He's a great teacher.
Take the tutorials. He explain in details, taking his time and answering questions. Otherwise, it's a sprint. Many chances to get good grade, 30% on homework you can do as many times as you want, quiz in class that make you win but not loose points, term exams that you don't don't well at are saved for the final. Well organized. But do exercices!
This prof is so bad. He literally doesn't teach - the class website is more useful than going to the lectures. He says average on exams is always 60% but that doesn't help him realize he's a bad teacher. Like wake up buddy obviously your students dont understand what ur teaching. Maybe it's time you try teaching instead of just reading your slides
Can't believe I pay 4000$ per semester and get a teacher like this. Doesn't teach - just read slides. I can read too buddy.
He does care for his students, but only those that do well. Those who dont get left behind in the dust. Hes hilarious and a genius, but honestly cant teach. He talks way too fast, zooms past material at light speed and honestly sounds like gibberish. Wooclaps the only reason I showed up to class. USE HIS WEBSITE TO THE FULLEST, do past exams.
A guaranteed30% of ur final grade through Labster&a.w.. Prof's great and provides his past exams so u know exactly what to expect. Wooclap's a way to stay focused during (a heavy)class for an extra10%. This class could NOT get any easier- The ppl complaining its difficult are the same 1s who couldnt play a game to earn the easiest20% of their lives
I feel like this prof gets a lot of hate but honestly try to teach a class with so much content and so much people attending it .Also people come rigth outside of high school expecting the same level of personalized care , thats just not going to happen in university specially in science or eng ( a ton of people).Overall solid choice.
As long as you actually put effort in, M. St-Amant gives you all of the resources you need to do well pass. He's an amazing prof who genuinely wants you to do well. The class itself is hard, but he will help you with extra DGDs and posting all old content/extra videos.
His labs and homework can be redone as many times as wanted. He posts all of his midterms and finals with the answers on his website since the year 2000, the formats don't change too much from one year to another. He tells you the type of 1-point questions that will be on tests. The final can replace midterms that weren't as successful.
This was definitely a tough class, my grade 12 teacher wasn't great so I found that mr st-amant went through the material too fast. He posts all his old exams and takes the time to go through some of them in dgd's before exams. Overall really fun prof, but don't expect to understand if you're not paying attention or doing any work.
He gives you everything you need to do well. The way you are graded essentially gives you a free 40% through homework and labs. You can redo the homework as many times as you want and the labs are online simulations that are really quick and you can redo them. He's very clear about the contents of the exams and posts previous exams to study.
Had fun in my chemistry class, most of the points are easy to get, the exams are a bit harder, but do the old exams and you should be fine. Would choose him again.
I really loved him! His exams were very straightforward, and you had an idea of what to expect.
Hands down the best prof I've ever had. Quite a bit of work during the course, but if you do it all you are guaranteed to do well on exams. Provides great resources and help outside of class.
Hands down one of the most respected and inspirational prof at uottawa in sciences! He's awesome. 10/10
This prof is the best prof I've ever had. He explains things very well and is always in an upbeat, happy mood. His lecture notes are very well-made and with access to all the previous years exams, you have no reason to fail this class.
The best prof ever!! Gives you so many free points. It could be a hard class if your 12th grade chem knowledge is not strong, as he teaches really fast. Make sure to do many practice midterms and its an easy A!!
One of the best profs i ever had, gave homework every week that wasnt worth too much so wed be forced to review the concepts, and we had infinite tries so if you didnt get it you could still learn. Great teaching and helped me a lot in later courses relearning the same concepts, memory was still fresh. Take him if you can he's great.
Funny guy who actually cares about his students. His lectures aren't the best use of your time but the dgds are your best friend. Midterms and finals are very similar to past years (which he gives you).
Professor St Amant is hands down the best professor I have come across at the university. He is so caring, kind and respectful. He provides you with all the tools you need to succeed, including ALL the past exams which make for amazing studying material. He makes the class easy and helps you with anything you need. Overall, amazing prof.
Loved this class so much, i feel like it kept me stable during this whole semester!
The course is relartively hard, but he has a ton of old midterms and final exams that you can practice so you're prepared for them.
Very good!
He's an excellent professor!! He really cares for his students and their success. He knows what he teaches and always find ways to make his lessons entertaining. Not strict at all and very loose on the exams. You can attend the classes in person or online, and every class is recorded. I would take this class again and I really enjoyed it.
Really great prof, he gives all the material you need to pass the course, the expectations are really clear, so the tests are really easy. Just do a couple of the practice tests before the test and it will be easy.
Graded on many things, very easy to get a good grade. He is always available and happy to answer any questions. His notes are very clear and good. Gives us all past midterms and many extra material to understand the class better. Even with minimum effort this class should be impossible to fail. He is very funny which makes the class less boring
I honestly loved St. Almant! He would talk very fast in his lecture and go through example problems quite quick but he posts previous midterms and exams that were super helpful.
Amazing prof who managed to make chem lectures interesting! Cracks jokes during class and is a very lenient grader. A lot of little assignments make this class almost impossible to fail. Overall, 10/10, I switched my major to chemistry for this guy! Would recommend, especially as your first chem prof at uni.
He's a really nice and good teacher honestly it's just that chem is a pretty tough subject lol. You can probably get better results than me if you put in the work so keep up with the lectures and do as many exercises as possible. His website is well organized with a good amount of exercises so make sure to do as many as you can.
Great teacher, if you do the wooclaps during class and the weekly homework its an easy A+ for 20% of your grade, he makes sure to give you the highest grade possible by not counting your worst midterms. Highly recommend, take him if you can!
listen to his podcasts before the lectures to prepare yourself and go to his lectures or listen to them online as he explains very well, his notes are easy to follow, do the wooclaps and the homework for an easy 20%, he posts all of his previous midterms, exams and practice problems so make sure to do them, he also allows a cheat sheet
Gives plenty of opportunity to raise your grade through wooclap and your final can replace the weight of any midterms with lower marks. Nice guy, still a pretty hard class
He is a horrible teacher, but is protected by his good sense of humour and important role with the Faculty. St-Amant's slides are unclear, full of mistakes and he explains very quickly and poorly. The only reason I got A+ is because his finals are easy (basically same as practice examples and midterms). He is also VERY unorganized. Do not recommend
The prof tries to incorporate links to real to his lectures. The midterms and finals follow the same format and question-type as practice ones. There were two days/week with discussion groups being offered, they covered different material in each. He encouraged the students to discuss between ourselves to answer Wooclap questions.
Lovely man! Very engaging classes because of his lighthearted personality. His website is full of useful videos and old exams to practice with (and the practice questions are usually identical to those on the tests). Lots of opportunities to boost your grade with weekly homework (with unlimited tries) and in class participation.
The teacher is so friendly and responds to questions very easily. He teaches in a fun and friendly way that is easy to understand, and makes us fall in love with the subject.
Professor St-Amant is a great teacher! He uses many exemples in class to help you understand the material. He also makes videos of him going through old exams which usually cover all of the material that you need to know. You have access to all of his old exams to use as practice and many of those old questions usually come up on the actual exams.
Prof St-Amant is an awesome professor. Most of the midterm and final questions are based on his previous exams. His explanations weren't always the clearest during class at times and some notions you'd have to learn for yourself. Make sure to practice a lot using past exams and videos and you'll be fine. Do not rely on your cheat-sheet.
Despite me having a low grade in his class, Professor Alain is such an amazing instructor as he cares about his students. Responds to emails quickly. Midterms were hard to finish on time. TAs were tough graders. His lectures are recorded and streamed via Zoom. Exams from previous years he provided were helpful as many questions come from them.
I took his class my first semester for the Fall 2022 term, and he made chemistry so easy! He post all his previous midterms and test on his site, years worth to practice with. The homework assigned was directly related to the exam and final. He is also amazing at giving lectures!!! :)
One of the few goods.
Favourite professor ever. So many ressources such as past midterms and finals available to study with that getting an A+ is achievable for everyone who puts in the time. Really cares about us learning and understanding.
Amazing professor. Gives many opportunities to students to improve their mark.
Excellent professor. St-Amant genuinely cares about the well-being and success of his students. Very generous marking scheme. Lectures are a bit dry, but he provides 20+ years of past midterms and finals for you to study from. Regardless, listen to what he says in class. He's very clear in his explanations. He made chemistry my favourite subject.
He gives you lots of chances (optional homework assignments and weighted grading for exams based on your best ones) to do well in his class! The information he teaches is clear and he gives lots of examples. I'm in my third year and he is still by far the best prof I've ever had.
I wish I could take Professor St-Amant for all of my chemistry classes. He is very caring, and gives so many chances to do well in his class. Assignments, Wooclap, and different weights for exams all so you can get the best grade possible. He gives a ton of old exams that are extremely similar to the mid terms and final.
great prof
AMAZING!! i would literally die for this guy. he is so good at teaching, gives clear analogies, he makes it very clear whats on each test and allows CHEAT SHEETS even for the FINAL! He gives access to EVERY past midterm and his grading system allows u to have the highest grade possible! i wish i could have him in every class!!
Prof St-Amant is a goat. Can't really have a simpler teacher. He moves quickly through his lectures, so make sure you are paying attention. He knows his stuff, as he has been teaching CHM1711 for 20 years or so, and he gives alot of examples regarding the material. Overall, he makes CHM1711 much easier than it is. Fantastic teacher.
He's great and gives so many oppurtinuties to get the best grade. He gives tutorials for the exact material on the test with cheat sheets (even on the final). He gives a free 10% as long as you do the homework and another 10% on the in class quiz questions that are easy. He gave 6 small tests with 1 final.
Very very good chemistry professor. He teaches very clearly and his slides are very understanding and not heavy at all. His test are exactly the same as his practice exams. He gives many resources to pass his class. Would 100% recommend this teacher
Funny guy, very knowledgeable, and makes class a fun and safe learning environment for all.
Terrible. We had SIX midterms, absolutely excessive. The only good thing about the course was its flexibility (online or in-person).
Best teacher you can have tbh. He gives you the most flexibility that you will ever have. Do the midterms or don't their weight will be shifted to the final, same with the quizzes. All of the exams of the las 20 years + answers are available, there really isn't a better class/prof when it comes to giving you all the resources you need.
Just amazing
Do yourself a favor and take him. Does everything he can to make sure you get the highest grade possible. He explains everything very clearly. 6 tests in total but you were allowed to have a cheat sheet with you. For the final you're allowed two. You also have access to 20+ years of old exams/midterms to practice with and the questions are similar.
I find him to be a pretty meh teacher. He flies through lectures and provides little detail in his slides. However his class is exceptionally well organized which makes it very easy to succeed. Every exam he has ever given is available meaning that as long as you spend a few hours practicing appropriate ones you'll be more than prepared.
Professor St-Amant is extremely accommodating and flexible. He provides a huge variety of resources (additional videos, past exams with corrections) and records all of his lectures and discussion groups so that they can be accessed at any time. He offers as many opportunities as he can for his students to succeed. Would 100% recommend.
Professor St. Amant was such an amazing prof. He is very accommodating to any problem you may have and is very clear on his expectations for tests and midterms. The final exam for 2023 was EXACTLY like the one from 2022 and all midterms use the exact same questions found from his online examples.
This prof was amazing. We had 6 test instead of midterms, and we were allowed a double sided cheat sheet on every test. He also had a lot of grade boosting assignments which was great. He was really funny and made his lectures really fun. The exam was very similar to the tests. Would definitely recommend this prof.
Very nice professor! He was very clear about his expectations, so exams were easy. We had access to older exams, which was amazing for doing practice problems. Attendance wasn't mandatory and we could join online or watch the recordings. A lot of exams (6), but with less content (I actually liked this better than having 2 midterms).
Class is made for you to succeed !
He tries to maximize your grades by giving Wooclap questions in class and adjusts the weight of exams. He is also caring and explains concepts clearly & succinctly. I can't recommend him enough. His practice questions in past exams and DGDs are a good reflection of what's in the exams, so there are no surprises during tests.
You can't find a better prof! Recorded lectures, replays to emails promptly, wonderful at explaining concepts, cheat sheets for tests/midterms and two for the final. He also posts all old exams from now to well over 20 years ago. Wooclap questions in class for grade boosters. Nothing to complain about, wonderful prof.
just marry me bro this guy is just goated to be honest. A lot of chances to do well in the class and everything is designed to make do amazing in the class. Keep it up prof we love you
Fantastic prof! Recorded lectures, responsive to emails, and great at explaining concepts. Plus, cheat sheets and old exams galore. Try unstuck study too - it really boosted my exam prep. Highly recommend this class.
Professor St-Amant gives really good lectures that are easy to understand and relevant to the midterms and final. Do all of the assignments, all of the wooclaps and attend every little test. Don't take those opportunities for a better grade for granted. Final was very fair.
Amazing prof. He cares so much, does extra DGDs to prepare for tests, very fair grading. I love how he shows us step-by-step how to do problems. (I am sometimes lost in lectures, but still end up doing well after studying). EVERYTHING is recorded and done on zoom. You have lots of chances to put up your grade if you mess up somewhere. Love him
TAKE. CHEM. WITH. HIM. If you speak french really REALLY do take 1711 with him. He's respected, knowledgeable & actually loves teaching. Exams are exactly as past copies that he puts up on brightspace himself + accommodation maximizes your grade. Answers emails and schedules meetings. He really got me through my first semester, loml fr fr.
Such a great guy, lectures were always engaging and fun to attend. You were allowed a cheat sheet on all exams/tests, so there were never any surprises. All lectures are also recorded and posted, and he takes the time to record tutorials for the labs which came in handy (since some labs used concepts that the class hasn't gone over yet).
Though you will most likely have 5+ midterms/tests (which seems like a lot), it is not bad at all. He has every single midterm and final posted since 2000 (nearly 25 years of tests), in which he repeats the same questions every year. Do a couple of the old ones and you will succeed. Prof St-Amant responds rapidly to emails (often within 2 minutes).
Provides lecture recordings, exams from 2000 to the present, past test papers, the option to take tests on Saturdays, cheat sheets, extra time to complete tests, and a forgiving grading scheme. Some of the lectures were boring, and I sometimes had to relearn concepts on my own. However, overall, he's a great professor.
Lectures are fun and enjoyable. You have access to previous years' exams, and most of the time the questions are similar. Labs are fun, but the reports are very boring, long, and difficult. He is one of the best professors in the university. Note: You have the right to get a cheat sheet for the exams; it's a lifesaver.
this professor is awesome. He gives us cheat sheets for tests and does tutorials before exams and labs. But honestly, the lab part was the worst for me. If you're doing it, just try not to get a zero for a silly mistake
Great intro to chem first semester, quite a generous grader with very clear expectations for tests and exams. Allowed a one page cheat sheet front and back for every test and is very understanding of external circumstances, great prof!
Such a sweatheart, you get cheat sheets for all midterms and finals and he has like 20 years of old exams posted. Very easy to get a good grade.
He's recording all of his classes so if you're missing a day it doesn't really matter. He also makes the recordings avaible. He a 24 years of old exams with the answers.
Took his Chimie générale class—he's an amazing professor. Provides past exams (very similar to actual ones), offers 10% for homework, and the weight of any quiz can be readjusted or transferred to the final exam so that you get the best grade. He's quick to respond via email and very kind. 100% recommend!
Amazing prof. Cares for students. It is impossible to fail if minimum effort is put in this class. All resources fro you to succeed are given like quizzes, homework, tutorials and practice tests which he goes through on videos he posts. Most caring prof at uOttawa.
Lectures can be a bit boring and at times he can go fast over some topics. He's a very nice guy and loves what he teaches. You get a cheat sheet for tests and exam. You still need to put some time to understand the material but overall it's not a very hard class.
Here to help his students, makes the course super clear and easy to handle, 100% would recommend.
Amazing professor who has been teaching the class for 20 years. Knows all the course material extremely well and teaches it very effectively No midterms but gives lots of quizzes and a final. Gives access to a cheat sheet and TONS of study material dating wayyy back.
Literally best teacher ever, gives tons of practice and opportunities to get your grade up, so sad he only teach gen chem
Hes an el primo main
Best chem prof ever, yes theres quizzes like every week but they are open book and in the end it really helps with your final grade!
Cheat sheets for ever test. This prof does tests instead of midterms so each is worth less. there is also homework and wooclaps to bring up your grade. Final grades are calculated for your own good, so if you fail a test don't worry your final will replace it.
He's amazing. You have access to a cheat sheet for all tests/exams, it's very easy to get 100% on the homework, and he records all his lectures on Zoom so you don't have to attend in person if you don't feel like it.
I GOT a 110
"I refuse to enter a battle of wits with an unarmed man" - THE BIG A THE GOAT
"I refuse to enter a battle of wits with an unarmed man" - Big A Goated teacher, L TAs that grade like I slimed their bloodline
Probably One Of The Best Teachers. Super caring teacher and he is very accessible outside of class. He finds the best combo for your mark to get you the highest mark. Very funny and makes the class very comfortable. You get a cheat sheet so use it wisely. Would love to have him for my other classes.
