Good professor, easy A
I took her for CHM1045, she doesn't teach!! All she does is read of power points, which you can do yourself at home. But she drops 1 quiz and 1 test. There are 4 test and 4 quiz's...The last review had to be her b.c. it was her first semester. BTW she told us that she failed Chem in college twice as student!!!
She's friendly and knows her material but this isn't an easy class, as long as you study and show up, you'll be fine.I do recommend her over other chem teachers that BC has to offer
She is nice but doesn't teach well at all!! Took her for CHM1045. I drop the class but quiz's and test are fairly hard but it is a lot of studying to do by yourself because she just reads of the power points. I would recommend another professor or take CHM1040 & CHM1041!!!!
DON'T TAKE HER!!! DOES NOT TEACH AT ALL and TEST ARE HARD!!!
She is a very nice professor, but doesnt teach well. I have ther for lab, and the first day she didnt have a syllabus didnt tell us what we will be graded on. I dont asking her questions, its like she doesnt like to be bothered.IDK. I will not recommend her. Look for someone better.
She is a new teacher. If you want to be her guinea pig take her class. She DOES not know how to teach. She only reads her power points in class. And just because she knows everything, she thinks you know them too. If you want an F, take her class. She is terrible overall.
i took her for 1046l i had to drop the class but i would had love to continue with her in the lab because was so easy. we didnt have exams all the grade is based on the lab book and if you write down what she tells you is an easy A. she collect the notebook 2 times. i strongly recomend herr for the lab.
Took her for 1045l and was actually easy. All she did was collect the homework and we mostly did the labs together. Plus she is a very nice professor.
I took one of her honor class. That lady doesn't teach at all. DON'T TAKE HER..RUNNNNNNNN
I'm glad i take her class. She's so approachable and down to earth. As a beginner, she's very qualified for the job. She explains everything well and grades fairly. TAKE HER. A B+ in her class is an A. 87.7% in her class will BOOST up your GPA A LOT
I really don't understand why she has low reviews because she is an excellent teacher. Shes is young and not boring. She gives quizzes everyday but they are so easy and help you keep up with what you are learning! She actually makes chemistry look easy!
Terrible! That's the best word to describe her teaching skills, her tests, and her gradings
So dissapointed. Wasted time and money. She goes out of her way to make this class as difficult for you as possible so that she can prove that chemistry is a tough course. EVERY SINGLE person failed her first exam and we had to fill out a survey because of it. I've never commented on this site before but felt like I needed to warn people!!
what!!!?? this professor destroyed me, I thought I had it. Makes you dislike chemistry really! made me waste money! Warning: watch out! don't take her. People will start reading reviews won't take her, will impact her job! I mean really it can't go on like that
From someone who got an A in her honors class- avoid her. Unapproachable and rude. Poor teacher. Extremely difficult tests. Final project was a 30 minute presentation. Unless you are willing to put 15-20 hours/week teaching yourself chemistry like I did, don't expect anything above an F.
I recommended not to take her she has quizzes everyday and 4 test they are hard take another professor she is rude and is lazy reads off PowerPoint's and doesn't teaches!!!! most of our class drops or failed
I took her for CHM1045 Honors and I would advise you to not take her even though I currently have an A in the course. My A in the course is in no way thanks to her, it is thanks to the wonderfully written chemistry book which I spend 20+ hours a week with. Rude teacher, unapproachable, harsh grader.
Run people. Useless powerpoints, doesnt know how to teach, and try to make things harder than they are. Tests suck. If u have no option , but her just stick with the book. Dont even bother to read her pp.I did work really to pass this class. She was boring that the only way she made sure that evbd is here is by giving a quiz every class whichsucked.
Basically my complaints match the two below me. Teaches the most basic form of every subject then gives the most complicated form in the tests. One of the tests even had a question that we did not cover in class. I'm not a lazy student with a grudge. I have a 3.50 gpa. I would not recommend taking her for CHM1046..
She doesn't teach. Her tests are the hardest, quizzes don't help you review, and when asking questions, prepare to feel like an idiot. She isn't helpful, she is unapproachable, not a good teacher.
Prof.Benjamin's grading scale is the best. Next time you receive her syllabus just do the math. An overall grade of 75 is a B in her class. Her grading scale keeps my GPA up. Her teaching style works fine. Once she teach you the basic rule of chemistry, you'll understand almost every concept in chemistry. She's sweet and approachable. She helps.
WARNING, Her chem class is INDEED challenging. Be prepare to study hard to grasp the central idea of each chapter. She will attempt to exploit the flaws in your study habits, but if you commit extensive time, and effort in her class you might receive an A. Class time is for lectures, office hrs and tutoring lab are for questions. Good Luck. Pass A-
Study in advance. Quiz every class(tricky). Reads through PPs and adds little input. Master the Chapter. Do ALL exercises if you can just to be safe. Understand the concepts by heart. Extra credit in tests about minute details. A tough class and a tough teacher. She puts the C in Chemistry. If you think you know it. THINK AGAIN.
One word. RUNN!!!!!!!!! I didn't believe the ratings until I suffered through this class myself. Please listen to me and save yourself. RUNN!!!
She is a fine teacher for a difficult class. As long as you expect that you will have to work and cover the subjects, you should get a reasonably high grade. I got an A without even doing the homework.
Seems to go out of her way to confuse students. Nearly everyone failed her exams, and even if she sees the whole class struggling to understand a topic just discussed, will make minimal effort to clarify. Constantly backtracks and makes errors when working out problems, and is easily confused when asked questions. Avoid!
Her class and every class in college is as easy as you make it. If you do hard work you get good grades, she tells you this the very first day of class. She gives you advice on how to get good grades such as doing every question in the text book. She does not teach rocket science so there is no excuses to getting below a C.
Worst Teacher ever !! she doesn't tech basically you have to teach your self !! Please don't take her .
I would NOT recommend taking her class! Grasping key concepts is hard because she does a horrible job of explaining. I wish I had checked this site prior to taking her class because it would have saved me a lot of stress! I have never received a grade lower than a B in all the courses I have taken at BC until I took her class and got a D!
She does NOT explain a thing in class, and she grades VERY harshly without explaining why she did! The one time we started the lab without her explaining, she made a big deal about us just starting. Not like she would explain anything anyway! DO NOT TAKE HER IF YOU VALUE CHEMISTRY!
She did not explain well, you would think she is teaching rocket science. is not approachable. go with someone that's open and actually cares about their students success.
One of the worst teachers I have ever taken. If you care about your grade DO NOT take her.
Cool teacher, difficult subject, gives a quiz every class. I took her over the summer and got an A. You need to study very hard as conceptual understanding is the only way to passing this class. I am taking 1046 with her in Fall.
I like this instructor and she doesn't let students misbehave. I think she's a very good instructor, so...
Dr. Benjamin made a difficult subject east to understand. She explains concepts clearly, and she makes sure you understand them. She is very willing to help after class to clear up confusion. Her quizzes and tests are very fair. There is nothing out of left field. You have to do the work. I would definitely take her again.
Professor Benjamin was so nice to me and gave me all the help I needed. I would go to her office hours and she was there whenever I needed her. She was one of the best teachers I've ever had. She teaches right off the power points on d2L so it's easy to follow along.
She moves too fast and she gives examples in class that are nothing like the ones she later gives on quizzes. I've always gotten A's in chemistry but omg I have a D right now.
Do NOT take her class. She claimed to want to help us but when we asked questions she would act like it was the dumbest question on Earth. She also teaches at a very fast pace. You have to go home and teach yourself everything over.
Benjamin isn't good at teaching, she basically just reads off the powerpoint and she moves quickly. You have to teach yourself everything. She does drop the lowest quiz grade, and gives 5-10 points extra credit on every test plus an extra credit online syllabus quiz at the beginning of the year.
She's not helpful at all. Reads straight off the power points. There are 3 tests and 11 quizzes given at random. She says to ask questions in the beginning of the semester but when you ask anything she acts like you're the dumbest thing on earth. She's easy for lab but not helpful. Her class is so boring and tests are hard. No multiple choice
VERYYYYYY BAD. Doesn't know how to teach tho she has a phd degree. Lazyyyyy Assss Prof. If you need help she's not gonna help you. Do not take her in any circumstances. She suckssssssss. I am a straight A student but I ended up with dropping her class. She's that bad. Again DO NOT TAKE HER NO MATTER WHAT.
Her class was tough but if you want an A you have to work for it. She teaches pretty fairly, its easy to understand. Make sure you do the suggested homework at least three days before the exam so you can go in and ask her any questions you have. There are about 12 pop quizzes per semester in which she drops the lowest two.
Gives 10 online quizzes and 3 in class exams. Tough class but you can pass if you study daily. She seems rough around the edges but is willing to help you if she sees that you work for your grade. I expected a B but passed with an A.
Warning this class may cause the following symptoms: Severe depression Anxiety Stress Suicidal thoughts
Don't listen to any of the other ratings. Prof. Benjamin is an amazing teacher. If you actually pay attention and listen to her lectures and study before tests by reviewing practice problems, there's no reason you shouldn't pass the class other than being completely lazy and not doing anything. Take her if you actually want to LEARN chemistry!!
Hey you guys! First off, don't take this class!!!! I promise she is one of the worst professors I ever had. She does not give extra credit, so if your failing her exams and quizzes that's it. Honestly, she doesn't explain Chemistry good, and to make it even worst she does not have a good attitude which makes it harder to learn. She doesn't care!!
If you want an easy professor do not take her. You have to work for the grade and expect to study long hours for this class. I am usually good at chemistry but this class was tough on me. There are four exams with 5 quizzes. The quizzes are multiple choices but the exams are not. So if you do not know what you are doing then you will fail the exams
Shes a hard professor for a hard class, but after taking her my classes have become much easier. TAKE HER!!!!
The worst professor I have ever experienced in my academic career. Quizzes are on the smallest details, and 5-7 questions each, so missing a few is already a failing grade. The tests are free response and no extra credit! No worksheets or homework that help boost your grade. The suggested homework is useless because she is never at her office hours
Given the reviews Dr. Benjamin has, I was reluctant to taking her course. My anatomy professor recommended her to me and that is why I chose her. Honestly, chemistry is a difficult subject. I was so intimidated at first. However, I am extremely studious and she is extremely thorough. It's really up to you. If you put in the work you'll do fine.
IMPORTANT! Her quizzes are all multiple choice and so are the tests (except for 3 questions). HOWEVER, you have to be careful because she puts both the correct answer and a common answer that students get wrong or are likely to get wrong as choices. so CHECK and learn the correct way to do the problems. she is not helpful when asked for help.
Do not take this professor. Chemistry is not an easy subject but there are so many other better professors. I've seen her be condescending to students and her grading is tougher than it needs to be.
Because of her, I almost switched from PA to Nursing. My science GPA is 4.0 and in order to keep it I had to withdraw her class. Her exams were 13 questions with a couple multiple choice questions. Only quizzes were multiple choice and without calculator. I think that because of she is young, she wants to gain respect by being tough. Not worth it!
My original chem prof was sick so we had the misfortune of getting benjamin to teach our class. My GPA is lower because of her. She used his tests but her method of teaching so barely any of the concepts matched. She just reads off of her powerpoints and doesnt care to repeat or explain that much. You can study profusely but that wont stop her.
I took this professor twice. My first semester with her was rough and I ended the course with an 88. However, I did no studying at all. The second semester she was the only available professor and I learned a lot and did very well! Her tests consist of the examples you do in class.
Simply does not care, has no passion in teaching, assigned homework from pearson that doesnt reflect the test. Her quizzes are decent but not worth much. Tests are all that matters realistically. Lazy, very lazy, extremely lazy professors, go to see her one on one hands you your test, will not explain any of the questions, and cannot take home/pic
I never got any grade lower than a B in any type of course until this class. The professor simply does not care if you understand it. I went to her office to go over the D I got on a test, and she was useless. She didn't explain anything or respond to any emails. So I spent $40 a week on a private tutor to barely pass her class with a low C.
Not an easy class, the professor is nice but is not easy at all. The tests are written and the quizzes are multiple choice. The only good thing abut this class is that she uses the point-scale system. There isn't really extra credit, but the points you need to get each letter grade are curved. She is available for office hours, though.
I CANT WITH THIS PROFESSOR. I LOVE CHEMISTRY AND SHE JUST DOES NOT CARE ABOUT HER STUDENTS. GIVES DIRTY LOOKS AND TALKS DOWN TO YOU IF YOU ASK QUESTIONS. NEVER AGAIN. YOU WILL REGRET THIS.
Lazy, demeaning, lackadaisical, condescending, powerpoint, sit, doesn't answer question, will spend time 45 minutes of a 50 minute class reading directly from the powerpoint, then say quiz next time I see you, the end. Repeat this process and say test next week. 15% of what she taught from the slides are on the test. Not recommended for anyone.
She's the laziest professor I've ever met. She's in the wrong field since teaching requires drive and passion. She can't teach. She's so bland and rude, and doesn't explain anything. It's almost as if she wants everyone to fail. She ruined chemistry for me. She doesn't want you to succeed. Don't take her!
Horrible! She doesn't lecture very well in my opinion. I would go home everyday and teach myself everything. I ended with a B but it was impossible. I would not recommend her at all!!!
I have had this professor twice. The first semester we had 10 pop quizzes and 3 free response exams and I got a B. The second semester there were 5 not pop quizzes and 3 free response exams and I got 100% in the class. Her exams use examples from her ppts. She's not the nicest prof, but if you show her that you are trying she will be nice to you.
How does she still work there don't select her find another teacher I don't care if this is the only class that fits your schedule is failed effort worth it...? No! Leave this page and find a better teacher or be quicker to picking classes earlier man! This teacher is not the one! Your better than this find another teacher your gpa is at stake!
Miss Benjamin was actually a decent teacher and she does her lectures through power points. At first I wasn't sure about her but she actually did look like she wanted students to ask questions. Chemistry requires a lot of practice and effort, so if you want to take her class I recommend doing that. She also gave little practice homeworks
This professor is a very poor teacher and to pass her class you will need a paid tutor. She sits to teach and does not have a visible disability. Any positive rating of her is probably written by her. She does not care for her students. RUN AS FAR AWAY FROM THIS WOMAN AS FAST AS YOU CAN.
One word: RUN!
Good professor. Maybe tougher than others, but after taking CHM1045 with her, CHM1046 comes easy! She has pop quizzes and participation matters. She was available all time in her office. I went personally 3 times.
(I had her for Lab) 90% of all information that was needed to pass this class had to be found online. If she doesn't like you (you would know by week 3) then she seems to look for any excuse to take points off of assignments. Very frustrating semester in her lab.
Shes really chill on most things like being late or even not finishing on time and she really knows her material well so shes always helpful. Theres always work to do on each lab but honestly its a great way to practice everything you learn in lecture
SHES SO HARD....... why is she so hard??? its like she wants you to fail
She's okay. Don't miss a class if you only have her one day out of the week. Quizzes are online and you have a midterm and a final exam which are the most heaviest graded tests. I understand her lecture but I feel she put other topics that wasn't discuss in classes into the quizzes and test. Be prepare to have a tutor or learn on your own to pass.
Fail you on purpose if she doesnt like you, never around to discuss your grades in class and have a nasty attitude. She went on vacation before our final exam and had someone else Proctor and 2 weeks before the semester was over. She waits on the last day to enter your final grade. I would not recommend this professor for either lab or lecture.
She is a horrible teacher. I don't understand why she even got into this career. Single lecture as if she doesn't wanna be there. If you ask questions she makes you feel dumb and stupid. Be aware of professor Stacey Benjamin. I will never in my life take another course with her. I would rate her a 0 if I was allowed.
Not very good at teaching, not very clear and throws you into an unexpected level of difficulty on tests. She speeds her lectures and leaves you with more questions than answers at the end of class. She can make easy concepts seem brutal
DO NOT TAKE HER. Her tests are way harder than what she actually teach in the class. HORRIBLE
I think Dr. Benjamin is awesome! Yes, her lectures are sometimes difficult to understand, but thats because CHM1046 is a difficult class. She pre curves the grades and prepares reviews for each test, which are much like the test itself. If you work hard and ask questions if you dont understand, you will pass the class.
AMAZING chemistry professor. She really wants her students to understand the material, and she doesn't move on until you do. She wants you to do well. Tests are hard, but come on, buffers and titrations are difficult subject matter!
Treats students like they're dumb when trying to ask a question. Isn't passionate and just wants to get the lecture over with.
Honestly one of the worst professors I have taken at NSU. Does not really try to get the students to learn. Has NO office hours, she is NEVER available. If you ask any question she makes you feel dumb for asking it. Everything is expected to be known by the students when in class. She is an awful lab instructor as well, does not know whats goin on.
Though I did well in this class, I found her course load VERY heavy. There are multiple chapters due back to back and her tests have very little to do with what she teaches in lectures. DO NOT take this class if you have difficulty in science.
Hard to swallow. Her personality is cute but I believe she needs more experience teaching, her exams were nothing like her lectures and had more of conceptual questions that we never were taught in class. Take her and feel safe if you study always on your own and use the professor only for questions, don't let her guide you by just Power Point
Lab videos were MEDIOCRE at best. She used Dr. Benoush Memari( Chem professor at Central) videos instead of her own which made the lab confusing because of different data coming from Memari and Benjamin while trying to figure out which one to use.
Terrible! Office hours are 1X a week for 1 hour, good luck trying to reach her because she won't respond to emails in a timely matter. Syllabus says grades posted within 7 days of due date, HA! Nearing the last day to drop the class and still pending 16 grades. Loads of work given, including home experiments you have to buy items for.
she has not answered my email from two months ago, hasn't graded assignments from august (it is December), you can only have office hours if you set an appointment via email (she doesn't respond to emails.) don't take her. doesn't give feedback on assignments.
All I can say is, never take this professor's class. She graded papers on the last day of class, doesn't give feedback, doesn't answer emails, and a tough grader. Her exams are hard and never about what was studied for. There is no room for corrections because she doesn't grade papers in a timely manner.. worst professor I had so far
This was my first time taking a lab online and I fully regret taking this professor as my first experience. She did not grade any papers until the very last day . She doesn't answer emails, she doesn't provide feedback. The videos you have to watch for labs were very unhelpful during the last few chapters since it's supposed to be hands on activity
Please do not take this professor if you are looking for an easy A. She is not accessible outside of class and grades very hard and gives no explanations. she does not help understand the labs. DO NOT TAKE HER!
She is very strict on Due dates. I had a legit excuse of why I was unable to submit an assignment and she never replied nor allow me to submit
I will never take her again she does not respond to emails about help. She waits to the last day to do her grading.
If you are taking this class hoping the teacher does their job don't take it. Takes a minimum of a week to respond to urgent emails and no learning material is provided other than an out of order supplemental textbook. You should expect to teach yourself all of the material.
Do NOT recommend taking her for 6 week course. She grades everything including your exams 2 days before grades are due. So you are unaware of how you are doing in the class till last minute. Exams were doable. You have to put a lot of time in to get an A, but it is doable.
I took her online course and the assignments were straightforward, though the textbook was out of order with the units we were doing in class so that was confusing. There are 3 open-book proctored exams and 2 closed-book. Which gives you a better chance of passing the class. She communicated regularly though the chapters for tests were unclear.
She gives data sheet assignments along with two quizzes every week but changes the due dates constantly. The data sheets take at LEAST 2 hours every single time, and she takes off a ridiculous amount of points. Not to mention for the data sheets you have to go to the store and buy ingredients to submit as photos 75% of the time.
This teacher is fair. Dr. B had a fair amount of work. There were nine units, nine quizzes, four exams, and Achieve homework for every unit. The final exam was cumulative. She doesn't offer extra credit. I am naturally bad at chemistry and have never understood it; however, this class goes through everything with ample study problems and videos.
This class requires a lot of independent work. The textbook doesn't match the lectures, and the exams don't reflect the material taught. Unstuck ai was a lifesaver for preparing, alongside the open-book tests.
Not sure why she has these bad reviews, she was great to my class. Weekly emails telling us what was due, responded within 48 hours for emails and even extended an assignment when I had a personal situation. Though I didn't interact with her much, she seems like she genuinely cares, and the class was an easy A. I'd recommend taking her for the lab!
I would STRONGLY recommend you not take this teacher. Feedback on assignments is incredibly vague, just putting the points you lost without explaining. Horrendous at replying to emails in a timely manner. Emailed her about rescheduling the midterm because I was in the hospital and she replied a week after it closed. Easy class otherwise.
