If you like to discuss racism this is the perfect profesor. You will write alot of papers though, but its not hard.

I have her class right now, she is very friendly, offers help whenever she gets a chance, alot of writing, but the topics are easy and interesting. English Comp. is not an easy class, you have to work to get your grade. As long as you do the work, its very simple to get an A in her class. Definite recommendation~!

Prof. Balkan is a great teacher.I recommend u take her class. Shes really nice,sweet,and caring. Shes not one of those old boring teachers. Shes one of those young and cool teachers. Theres a lot of writing but she'll help if u need it. So if you're going to have her as a teacher don't worry just do all your work and you'll be fine.

This teacher genuinely cares about your education. She makes it a point to have you understand. She was perfect...Her lessons were not too hard, not too easy...She always gives you the benefit of the doubt. I def. reccomend you have her as a professor..Her friendly ways make it a pleasure to go to class :)

Great teacher she really is very helpful as long as you listen. She doesn't give tests although she does give papers considering it is a writing class. Papers are done at a great pace and she never rushes the learning process

Great, interesting professor. Lots of reading, relatively easy papers. Interesting class discussions, pretty opinated about politics and other issues, good sense of humor.. classes are never boring! Definitely reccomend you take her class.

Had her for comp1/lit201. Very positive attitude. Easy to understand. Fair grades; you can revise bad grades. Lots of reading/writing, what else would you expect? However she's mostly following standard syllabus. She can get off track esp. with writers she likes + politics. Very liberal, but open to debate. Very good prof. Highest recommendation.

She is a helpful professor as long as you want to learn. It was really hard for me to write, but she made the class easy for me. Again, writing in her class is painful, but she helps you a lot.

amazing prof. had her for comp101 and comp201. she really cares for student's progress. yeah theres a lot of writing, but it is a writing class. she tries her best to make the assignments easy and as crystal clear as possible. takin her for Latin American lit in the fall and i cant wait.

I took her for Lit. This is probably the best professor ive had in 4 years. If you wanna act like ur still in high school, don take her. You'll read about 8 novels, and its not hard. Wonderful literature professor. Very detailed in her comments on papers, which is a must if you are a lit major or anyone looking to improve their writing. I wish I had taken more than one class with her. She is an amazing professor who will open your eyes to new authors and ideas.

By far the best professor at Bergen. It's a writing class so writing is obviously mandatory, but her explanations on the topics are crystal clear, and she tries to make it as easy as possible. The final paper is NOT at the last minute, we know about it from the beginning. She is very helpful & loves her job. No complaints at all. RECOMMENDED!!

Absolutely phenominal. Really intelligent. Fun, interesting. Relates everything to life, and puts it in its proper historical context. She lets you know what the class is about and sticks to it. If you actually read the assignments it's a very easy course, however there is A LOT of writing involved, so if you don't like that then don't take her.

She is a good professor. Essay due every week. Sometimes a reaction paper. There are no test. Do not need to buy the refrence book. Very helpful. Final paper due 5-7 pages, on any topic you want. She always gives you an extra try to rise your essay grade. TAKE HER ....

She is a Ph.D candidate who knows her stuff and doesn't waste either your time or her own. You will get quality teaching throughout. Work hard - you are in her world and she can spot a phony. She'll make you think. Very articulate and very helpful. Enjoy! She's a superstar.

Great teacher. She is very clear about her expectations of your writing. Your allowed to rewrite 1 essay after the first assignment. There's only 5 essays total and a research paper. Im not a strong writer and I got an A on all my papers. Shes really nice but straight foward. Def take her for WRT-201

Doesn't teach the class as if attending a 2 year school. Her knowledge of the subject matter is overwhelming, to her to, sometimes I think. Lit as Lit and History. What one should want in a mentor. And Prof. I learned more in this class, than any other i have ever taken. And i have 90 credits! Her passion for the subject matter is unmatched.

This woman is a god sent. She is so passionate about her subject that she makes a not so favorite subject for most of us awesome. She lets you redo papers almost every time so you can easily get an A if you work hard and follow her directions. She is just a joy and hands down the best teacher that Bergen has to offer.

She's very nice and helpful. I've had her for two semesters in a row and she really knows what she's talking about when it comes to literature. Not a hard grader and as long as you do your part, you're golden.

Great Professor. Very knowledgeable on the material & goes above & beyond to help if you have any questions. A lot of work (2 3-4 page essays, 1 midterm {5-10 pages}, & 1 MLA research paper 7-10 pages). Make sure you speak up in class. Don't be afraid to participate, she will help you formulate your thoughts & opinions as long as you contribute.

GREAT Prof! I highly recommend taking her class. She is very helpful and though she is a tough grader it is very good for your writing. She will improve your writing so much and she will provide with feedback that you can take not only into writing classes but into your other classes that you have to write essay for.

Great prof.! I took Writing-101 online in her class, and I gotta tell you, I came out of that class a far better writer than I went in. If you put the work in I couldn't see how your experience could differ. She can be a bit of a tough grader, but beyond that I have no reservations about reccomending her class at all.

took lit on line with balkan, easy class if u do the reading...will totally open your mind, take it! not too much reading, just don't miss the discussion boards and u will get good grade

Very interesting course, loved the material she chose to cover. Assignments are not super easy but she's willing to help and even grade work twice so you can improve grade. Have to show interest and stay on top of your grade however because she sometimes scores asignments weirdly.

By far one of the best professors I've ever met. She is super passionate about what she teaches. She really loves it when her students participate in the class discussions (which are always very insightful). I learned so much in her class!

Fantastic professor. I took WRT101 online, and SB is awesome. She answers e-mails in a timely manner (not all professors do) and she will go to great lengths to make sure you understand. I can't say enough great things about her. I did the work, participated in the class discussions and got an A. It is a bit labor intensive, but it's worth it.

I took her class online and it was extremely helpful and interesting! She is a great prof and will help you with anything you need. Very fair with grading and interesting topics to write about. Loved her!

She was a great pick for my online summer course.Basically 4 essays one final paper and one short response per week. Our essays are based on online articles ranging from 1-3 pgs.She allows do-overs for 2 essays, 3 if student shows effort/work ethic. She responds to e-mails swiftly. She grades fair and with do-overs I got an A on every assignment.

Literally the coolest woman alive.

This professor is awesome, helpful and delivers high levels of energy. She offers alot of help and lets you do free writing. However her reading is is a litte excesive but the literary works are amazing. There is just not enough time to go through them and disect the works.

Take her! There is a ton of reading to do, and you have two term papers to write, but as long as you read and try your best you will receive a good grade. Even though this was an online class, she was very responsive, and she actually cared about the students and what she was teaching. I'm not the best writer, and I got an A.

Love this class! Stacey is really responsive to student questions, and I had a lot! Yes, there is a lot of reading, but I sort of expected that, and you get to write the final paper on the last book, which is really helpful.

a tough online course! discussions are easy if you read the material. The papers, the midterm is easy, but the term paper, I suggest you start reading the Hungry tide DONT wait until she tells you! By all means sign up for her class! She's a sweet and caring person and that shows through her work. I had her for comp 101 and she was very helpful. She was never rude, always understanding and sweet. Expect to do writing because it's a composition class, but she's sooooooooo helpful!

Course material was interesting. Gives you a chance to read some great literature. Stacey is helpful and good at teaching. However, her lectures sometimes left a bad taste in my mouth. Not very well spoken. Her side comments (often about politics)are opinionated and students often silently disagree- not very appropriate. Not my favorite professor.

So wish that I took this class in person! The reading was about right, and SB is really excited about literature! She emailed us constantly with links and events. She even invited us to museums over the break! And she's totally there for you.

Prof. Balkan is honestly one of my favorite professors. She always invites you to a cool event at the school or even outside. I liked her class, you just gotta do the work and you'll get a good grade. She gives amazing feedback as well on papers, which improves your writing.

Great professor who is clearly passionate about her job as well as the topic she chooses for her class. Focuses on one topic the entire semester (i.e. what impact technology has on us) which gets quite boring after reading several articles on it. Overall, she's a great professor as well as a sweet person, she'll always give you great feedback!

She was the type of teacher that wanted to help you and work along side with you rather than try to stress you out and antagonize you. Her class had some homework which wasn't difficult. I adore Professor Balkan! This was my first semester in college and she made the transition so easy. Her class basically consists of 4 units. For each unit there is 1 or 2 forum posts that you do which are the basis for your essays. There are four essays + one research paper. She gives good feedback so you can fix your papers for a better grade.

Shes very passionate and caring. She gave me an extension on TWO PAPERS. Honestly just read and participate, and take the time to write the papers. The papers aren't that easy (theres a few but theyre long) but shes more than willing to help anytime. Great professor, very nice.

Wow, even though this was an online class, Professor Balkan made it feel like a real class! She responds to emails really fast (not all profs do), and she responds to EVERY forum too! She also writes lots of comments on papers. There are five essays, and you can always revise. And the topics were really interesting! Would def take again!!

Love, love, love this class!! Wow, Stacey is incredibly passionate, and it really helps. I definitely had to work for my grade, but you can revise ALL of your essays. She also really seems to care about her students. She wrote me a recommendation with one day's notice! Don't be intimidated. She knows A LOT, but is very patient.

Really cares about what she teaches. If you are interested in the environment than this class is for you. She is very clear about the feedback she gives and lets you resubmit a paper after giving edits. I learned a lot about writing from this class, some just little things, that will only help improve further grades on papers.

Professor Balkan is one of my favorite professors thus far because of how passionate she is in her teaching. She is very knowledgeable and lectures in a way that engages the class and makes you want to learn more. I was always excited to explore the content of this class, and it gave me new and expanding perspectives on the world.

I would take Balkan a million times over. She is passionate and knowledgeable about everything she teaches. Her lectures are genuinely interesting and she can be funny. She also gives good feedback and is always accessible outside of class for questions and is very accommodating for assignments. There were two mini essays as well as a final paper.
