Professor Bennett gives out many speeches and outlines, which is to be expected. Her grading techniques, however, are unclear and unfair. She will deduct points off of your paper or speech and oftentimes not tell you why. I do not recommend taking this class.
Have her for my online class, get ready to read a lot and watch long movies. If you miss a discussion, test or quiz your grade drop dramatically. Answer very little but have the right answer you go down a few points. Over all do all the work to get a good grade
Not the best choice for effective speaking. She does not teach you how to write and deliver speeches, but expects you to learn. Very tough grader. Will take points off often. Attendance is key, although not much Is done in class. Don't miss a speech day, even if its a family emergency she will not care and give 0 for the speech. Some extra credit.
I thought the online class was very organized and easy to follow. I liked the speeches that we were to do and interesting discussions. A lot of samples that helped me with my own speeches.
I really like that she gave us a free textbook. I am learning a lot of information from the course. It is easy taking the reading quizzes and discussions. The speeches are interesting. We are giving an industry speech that relates to our major. She give a lot of good feedback to improve on future speeches. Her course is really organized online
Took the class in the spring semester and she helped me a lot. I overcame my fears for speaking in public. She gave extra credit to earn more points for the class. I recommend her to my friends. Great teacher.
She is a really good professor! I took her online class and I am happy I did, take her class if you get the chance!!!!!! I really liked that we were able to pick our own topics.
I liked her class a lot. She doesn't use powerpoint to lecture and her class is more based on discussions. We watched a lot of videos for speeches and was able to pick our own topics. If we missed an assignment she gave some extra credit to help. I recommend her to my friends.
I learned a lot from the class. Just do the work and you will be fine. She gave us some extra credit throughout the semester if you needed some extra points.
Uses free online textbook. Class mostly her talking and showing videos, not just reading off a PowerPoint. Can't miss many classes, she'll tell you the max you can miss. No late stuff accepted and points matter on speech days so must come on them, no matter the excuse. She's okay but pretty strict for just a public speaking class.
Took her online speaking class and she is a really nice teacher! She gives really good feedback and makes sure you are doing well!
Professor Bennett is as fair as professors come. If you follows her syllabus youll be fine. Attendance is mandatory but you get up to three absences and if its an emergency it IS excused. Public speaking is not a difficult class. Minimal homework, weekly online quizzes and the textbook is online and free. Shes a really good prof and you learn.
Stacey Bennett is a good professor. Her COMM110 class will teach you a lot about public speaking You do have to present multiple times in front of the class. She starts off grading very lenient but at the end of the class is very tough. She can also be moody and angry at times. Overall, would take again and recommend for future students.
Professor Bennett is a great professor and changed my feelings about public speaking, Im not as intimated as I was. She explains assignments well and is very helpful. Her class uses an online free textbook which is a plus. I would definitely take her again!
Professor Bennett was a great professor. She was very accessible, offered great positive feedback. You have to do the reading, quizzes and basic assignments of course on time. End of semester research paper was the toughest part and that was not very difficult because she gives you a ton of choices to pick from. Really enjoyed this class.
In all honesty, I would not recommend this professor. Her canvas looked very disorganized and it was very difficult to find the information for assignments. Grading was ok and so was feedback. The readings were WAY too long and there was too much info to try and remember. If you take her, prepare to read and speak a lot, good luck!
Professor Bennett was one of the best professors I've had in a while. Her class is designed in a way where it makes learning fun and interesting. Her teaching style helps her students learn more about each concept and enjoy learning about the concepts. 10/10 would totally take her class again
Gives tons of work that is not necessary for the assignment . Extremely specific on grading. Besides the chapter tests being easy, there is nothing positive about Bennett and the way she instructs the class.
Professor Bennett genuinely cares about her students. Assignments are not terribly difficult, but do require a general understanding of the reading. Even though I took this class online, I was always able to be in contact with Prof. Bennett, as she is excellent as responding quickly to questions. She also provides insightful feedback.
Her speaking class was engaging and well structured. Her grading can be tough, but very fair as she wants to provide real feedback and knows when people aren't trying their best. Late work and absences aren't tolerated. Also, be prepared to leave your comfort zone! It was an unexpected challenge, but I feel like a better speaker because of her.
I highly recommend that you DONT TAKE HER as a professor and Ik many other students would agree with me as I spoke with them too. She is disrespectful towards students and the way she speaks to them, she does not answer emails, she is a very tough grader, and straight up WANTS TO SEE YOU FAIL!! Do urself a favor and dont take her class!
Great overall teacher. Classes were very interactive even with a difficult (i.e. Quiet) student audience. Not a very tough grader at all as long as you follow the rubric. Everything is fairly straight forward and I definitely learned a valuable skill from her course.
I learned a lot from the course and it helped me boost my self-confidence. I thought Ms. Bennett provided great feedback and it really allowed me to work on my weaknesses to improve my speaking ability. I appreciated the information provided.
I enrolled in Ms. Bennett's summer online course and it was very easy to complete in the time that we had to do everything. She gave great feedback on our speeches which really helped. There is a lot of reading and quizzes. But, for an online class, it helped me understand the important areas to focus on for the course. Highly recommend.
I learned a lot from her class. I liked that we were able to pick our topics and not only get her feedback but also had our classmates in the course give us feedback on our speeches. I feel that all of the feedback really provided me with useful information to improve on my speaking skills. The class was organized and not painful!
I had Ms. Bennett over the summer and it was great. Her feedback prepared me for the next assignment. I liked that we were able to pick our topics.
Finished Bennetts summer class and it was definitely fast paced. But, I was able to keep up with assignments because she provides a lot of reminders. Her feedback was great. It helped me on my next speech. I liked the peer critiques. Those helped me too. I learned a lot and became more confident as a speaker.
If you want to be sane by the end of the semester, avoid this professor. Why? Her biggest assignment (30% of the grade) is a paper on a topic that is NOT covered in class, and is meant to be done in a format that she does NOT teach. Other than that, she gives inconsistent grades. My grades gone from an A to a C despite her saying Im doing better.
30% of the grade in her class is for something that you have to teach yourself. My question is, if I have to be the student AND the teacher, whats the point of taking the class then? Its one thing to make an assignment based on something we havent read, but the fact that 30% of my grade is for something that WASNT taught is very annoying.
All assignments, the professor was grading and giving great feedback.
The online quizzes are easy, but the speeches are a hassle. Most of the time, you need 4-6 people in the "audience." She will also make assignments due on a Sunday but expects you to post by Thursday or Friday and will take off 10-20 points depending on the assignment. She gives good advice but can be a harsh grader if you don't try.
Great feedback. I thought the assignments were easy and had no issues with completing the work. I asked questions and thought she was helpful.
The professor is very knowledgeable and has an organized class. She makes the class very interesting with the reading material, video and the way she sets everything up in canvas. I love how she made it very interesting to do research and gave you amazing databases for all of your future classes.
Very passionate about her job. She wants to see her students succeed. She gives you handouts, videos, and outlines to make sure you are staying on track with assignments. I started this class scared and nervous, but by the end of the semester, I was confident to get in front of my audience and deliver a speech. Thank you for a great semester!
I liked that the teacher gave us a lot of handouts and examples to help us with organizing our speeches. She gave a lot of feedback that helped me do better on the next assignment. I really liked the videos provided especially in an online class, these were helpful.
took an online class and she never communicated with the students, not just in my class but other classes as well, took up to 5 days to answer 1 email, and the assignment was due before she even answered. she also have lots of criticizing on assignments that met the certeria that was given, I also felt some assignments weren't stated clearly.
I've never left a review for any professor before, but this professor has no respect for her students. I emailed her dozens of times trying to make up a few assignments and she either wouldn't let me or responded way too late. Please do not take her class. She will not help you succeed in anyway.
Very condescending and does not want her students to succeed! I completely regret taking this class with her as a teacher
I'm not one to be negative towards professors, but I seriously was disappointed. I felt uncomfortable often with her out-of-pocket comments and she has absolutely no filter. The final is doing a paper/speech about a theory SHE DOES NOT TEACH BTW! Please save yourself & do not take this class.
We did some impromptu speeches that were fun and easy. Bennett gives grading rubrics that makes it easy to know what we are being graded on and gives feedback so we can improve by our next speech. I liked her stories in class and the rest of the class was fun to get to know.
The class is made up of 4 speeches, some homework assignments and reading quizzes. As long as you prepare for your speeches and show up, it is a great class. She is a tough grader but gives good feedback about why she gave a certain grade. I had fun in class and my classmates were fun and interesting too.
I like that the professor uses a free textbook to teach the course. She provides online lectures, handouts, and other materials for you to learn the information. Her feedback on our writing assignments are great and helpful. I learned a lot from the class that I can use in my relationships.
I learned a lot from the class and my favorite part of this class was the presentation. I got a 100 and I enjoyed putting it together. I thought Ms. Bennett gave me great feedback. I would definitely take her again since I learned so much from her class. I have a friend that has her for a speaking course, I will definitely take her for that class.
Good teacher. Responds to emails.
She's a very good teacher. Easy class, not tough on you, and gives good feedback on your speeches.
I Wish I could have her teach all of my classes. She is kind and her way of teaching is very good. She prepares you in every possible way before a speech, and gives
I took her for intro to acting and she was very engaging. She could be a little harsh in her sarcasm sometimes and her very strong opinions could be heavy to bear at times. Easy class overall and she was entertaining as well.
She was so rude and pretty much set the class up for failure. For every speech topic she asked the entire class about she gave very critical feedback and would have you change it even if you had every requirement she asked for. Will make you stay on a speech day if you have a fever or an emergency and give you attitude about it.
If you have any learning disabilities like ADHD that makes it hard for you to turn in work on time, don't take her. She isn't very lenient and personally I don't think she gives enough time on assignments such as projects.
I took her over the summer and dispite doing all of her assignments she took off points saying I "Needed to use my hands more" like what does that mean? No public speaker does that! Would not take her again.
She expects too much from an online speech course. There was about 16 quizzes on top of the 3-4 speeches we had to give. One had to be given in person to at least 2 people and the 2 speeches had to be given to an audience of 6+ on Zoom. This is a lot of coordinate in finding participants for someone working full-time and doing class part-time.
The class is structured well and I was able to speak about my passions. For a fast paced summer class I thought the time frame to complete the assignments was great. I had plenty of time and the feedback that I got helped me improve.
I liked how the class was organized. We did three speeches on topics that I was passionate about. There is a lot of handouts and examples that help you stay focused on what you need to do. It seems like a lot of work at first but it helps if you are not as strong with something the other stuff that you do well on will balance out the final grade.
I thought she gave me good feedback and helped me improve. The class was easy to follow and I liked all the examples that were given to us so we could do well. She is quick on email if you had a question. I definitely was scared to take this class but she helped me a lot.
Points are taken arbitrarily, to the point that I don't think she listens to assignments, or just forgets. Do not try to argue any of your grades with her - she will not budge. Late submissions aren't allowed even if you have immediate family pass in the middle of her course, even though her syllabus says so. The course is easy, prof is a pain.
The class was organized and she provided feedback that I could use to get better. I liked that we are allowed to pick our own topics that are of interest and I was able to talk about things I am passionate about. Textbook reading were easy and the quizzes are not timed and open. So, I was able to use my notes to help with those.
The course was not difficult. I was able to talk about things that interested me. I was nervous at first but the professor met with me to help. Once I was able to create a good speech I was fine. It is a little nerve wracking to present in front of people but I did it and I learned a lot. The readings were easy and we had good examples.
I was able to work on my confidence and I liked how Bennett organized the class. She gave us videos and examples that helped me. I liked that we were able to have both a live and remote audience for our speeches and that she gave us a range for the number of people we needed to listen. The class wasn't too difficult as long as you do the work.
we had a lot of ways to do well in the class. it wasn't a difficult class at all. just read do your quizzes and turn in your speeches and you will be fine. her feedback helped me get better from one speech to the next. i liked the sample given to us to use. overall, i learned a lot and liked the class.
She tells you exactly what she's looking for in your speeches. There's no surprises with what she's expecting. So as long as you give a solid speech and turn them in on time you should do fine. We had a lot of examples to help and rubrics. I learned a lot about myself and how to handle presentations in the future.
Bennett is not the professor for students with disabilities or anxiety. My mental health got worse in her class. I always loved public speaking until I took Bennetts class. She gives really hard quizzes multiple times a week and is too picky about your speeches. I don't feel like I am learning anything
Bennett really helped me boost my self confidence and I really enjoyed the class. We could talk about any topic we were interested in and she was supportive. I had great classmates that also made me feel welcome. I learned a lot about myself taking the class.
Useless class you won't be able to do anything right and her feedback will never help. Terrible class take someone else trust me
Class wasn't hard. I liked the speeches and the class helped me get more comfortable speaking in front of other people. You have rubrics to help with the speeches and reading was easy. The teacher uses a free book.
We had a free textbook and no exams. We did quizzes, speeches, and a couple of homework assignments. I liked that we could pick our own topics. The class really helped me to feel more confident talking in front of people. I liked my classmates they were nice.
There is WAY too much work in this class - most of it is useless. Assignments, quizzes, several speeches - and they cant all be done from home. Its an online class. Then you have to find people for audience its just too much for this class
We had a free book and I learned to build my confidence with delivering different presentations. We did a lot of activities that helped me work on organizing my thoughts and practice with talking in front of my classmates. Good class. I liked that Bennett helped with researching my ideas and gave us time to work on assignments.
I liked the class pretty easy if you just get over yourself and do it. I built my confidence and was able to learn more about remote presentations. The class helped me learn more about organization. Ms Bennett was quick with emails and I'm glad she used videos to make sure we knew the assignments.
I was able to work on my fear for speaking in front of other people. We had a lot of in class activities and exercises that prepared us. I am very thankful that Bennett didn't use powerpoint to lecture to us the entire semester. She gave us worksheets to work on and did a lot of group workshops to help with putting our speeches together.
Learned a lot, liked the class.
Do not take this class...she's nice enough but does not effectively teach and her grading is insane, makes no sense at all. Stay away and take someone else unless you want to take an impossible class.
I was able to increase my confidence in the class and that was something that was important to me. Ms Bennett provided me feedback that helped me think about ways to improve and I am glad we were able to pick topics that we were interested in. Good speech examples helped me work on the speeches for the class.
This class is worst so much work and no clear directions. Work hard and end up getting nitpicked. Stay away
Class helped with my fear of speaking. We had good activities and examples. I liked that we could pick our own topics and I liked working with my classmates on preparing my speeches. Bennett gave me good feedback and the speeches overall were not that bad to write.
I like the class. Bennett help me to feel more confident in myself and gave me good feedback on my speeches to where it would help me be better. Good speech examples and outlines were provide to us so we could see how to complete the assignment. She gave us a free book to read and I was able to learn how to use zoom.
Do yourself a favor and take someone else for your speaking class. She is impossible to please and gives bad instructions and no feedback. Terrible class.
I had Ms Bennett for a couple of classes and I liked my speaking class the most. I had good classmates and I liked that we were able to pick our own topics. We had a free textbook and the activities and group work in class helped me. I am more confident about my speaking now.
Unclear and hard grader.
I liked ms bennet's class. We did group work that helped me with my speeches. Easy finish at the end of the semester to.
Annoying group projects and boring lectures. Do not take bennett.
We had a free book and we could pick topics we are interested in. The speeches were easy. Not a lot of busy work just stuff to get us ready for our speeches. I liked the class.
Ridiculous amount of work and unclear directions. Grading makes no sense. Steer clear
Awesome class. I am more confident now and Bennett had many activities to help with my anxiety for speaking.
I liked the class. We did some fun group activities and didn't have to buy a textbook. I liked my classmates too very supportive.
this class is so boring and should be easy but the assignments make no sense
I liked the class thought it was easy and I learned a lot about myself. We had a free book and I learned a lot from my classmates speeches.
As long as you do the work and participate you'll be good. It's easy and Bennett is quick with email if you have an issue. I was able to send her ideas and get feedback right away. Liked the class.
Do the work and work hard and you won't get an a this class is a joke
Good class. I am more confident in my speaking abilities. Mrs. Bennett helped me with my anxiety and I really liked my classmates. They were supportive to. I liked we had a free textbook and had days in class working on our speeches.
If you do the work and arent afraid to speak up and add to the classes discussions you will do great. Very caring professor!
She is very respectable and understanding. She is willing to help out any student who may need it. You just need to ask her. Mrs. Bennett gives clear instructions for assignments and provides some great handouts and videos in the class. I highly recommend taking her. I learned a lot and was able to feel more confident by the end of class.
I liked the class. Ms. Bennett gave us good feedback on ways to improve on our speeches and I thought the handouts given to us helped me out a lot. I liked my classmates and felt supported by both them and Ms. Bennett.
I took Ms Bennett for interpersonal since I had her for my effective speaking class too. I thought the online class during winter break was great and easy to complete during the holiday season. I liked the communication experiments and reflections we did in the class. I learned about myself and how to be a more effective communicator.
Great professor for COM110. Her personality keeps the class engaging, she breaks the grades up evenly so that you can still pass, even if you fear public speaking. She even helps ease any tension that people might have coming into this. Very understanding if you are having issues, just be upfront with her. She shows respect to the students.
I enjoyed the class. I was able to increase my confidence and Ms Bennett gave me great feedback for developing my speaking skills. I liked my classmates and was able to learn more about them during the semester. This made speaking in front of them a lot easier.
Professor Bennett is awesome, she makes the class engaging and manageable. The workload is reasonable, and she's always willing to help. If I send an email, I get a response usually in a few hours and the information is very helpful. I enjoyed the class. Learned a lot about myself and how to be more confident with delivering presentations.
She was definitely one of the best professors I have ever had. Incredibly caring outside of class and genuinely connected with the students to ensure everyone enjoyed class and the cirriculum.
Gives plenty of oppurtunities to get comfortable with public speaking, and is really good at giving critique's to speeches. Really gets the students involved with talking with and in front of each other as well, which makes it more comfortable to give speeches. The quizzes are very annoying, but the soeech eveluations are interesting.
I took this class over the summer and thought it was structured well in the 6 weeks that we had to complete the work. Bennett gave me great feedback on my speeches so that I could learn more about how to become a better speaker. I enjoyed the class and the workload was not bad for a fast paced summer course. I learned a lot.
This summer course was a great experience. Even though it was only six weeks long the class was organized in a way that made the material easy to follow and stay on track. Ms Bennett was supportive and gave thoughtful feedback that helped me grow more confident in my public speaking skills.
This class was an easy A. There were only 3 speeches, quizzes for each chapter, and a few discussion boards. For the speeches you need to film yourself using VidGrid and have an audience. You do have to put the work in for a good grade but Prof Bennett is very helpful. Also keep the speech topics on the simpler side.
She is a tough grader, her feedback doesn't make any sense, no communication, doesn't reply, doesn't make her students developed or improved in any aspect. You never know what is looking for, and this has a negative impact on students as well who don't know by default what she clearly needs from them.
Professor Bennett is one of the best instructors I've had in college. She's organized, cares about her students, and makes public speaking way less intimidating. Her feedback is detailed and actually helps you improve. If you stay committed and complete the weekly modules, you'll learn more than you expect. I recommend her class it wasn't hard.
She's such a harsh grader and gives horrible feedback. Would never take her class again.
I liked Bennett's class. It was easy and I learned a lot about myself. I thought I couldn't do speeches but her feedback helped me so much. I have more confidence now.
The class was easy and ms bennett gave me feedback that helped me learn how to deliver a good speech. I really thought the assignments were easy.
