Her lab makes a lot of sense, and she strives to get you to do your best... I would consider her before anyone. I am so happy that i got an A in this class.

I took this class 2 semesters ago and I got an A+ . Dr. Buchanan was very nice,clear and helpful. With her u will earn the grade u deserve. Remember this is Chemistry in a College so u need to study at ur own also. and by the way Iam Arabic and she treated me nicely. Chemistry is taugh and don't blame the teacher if u can't handle. Excellent teacher. Tests and grades fair. You will have to do work OUTSIDE of lecture & the sample problems she gives for ea. ch are great preparers for the test. She uses UCompass and posts updates, notes, and practice exams, which I suggest to do. It's tough material, so don't expect that if you go to class and do no hw you'll get an A.

Great Prof, has great ways for you to study for exams, lets you understand & if not she'll be glad to help during office hours. Only tough ting in her class is the FINAL EXAM :( good luck and I hope you choose her because she's so much better than the others. I give you my word on that!!

She is an excellent teacher! She is probably one of the most helpful teachers ever. Her exams are kind of tough, but she does give practice exams--the tests are the same format with one surprise problem. Do the suggested exercises-it really makes a difference. I really recommend her, she is the best 141 teacher at hfcc!!

Dr B is the teacher to take Chem with!! Its alot of Material so its a fast pace class, her tests r detailed so study; but passable. Dr.B is the sweetest most approachable teacher ever, she is passionate about chem,which makes it easier. She tries her best 2 help us understand i highly reccomend visiting her on office hours, shes helped me lots!

I took this course in the spring and I think Dr. Buchanan was a very good teacher. The subject is a difficult one, and you have to study alot if you want to do well in this course. She will help any student who comes to her asking for help, but you have to make the effort. I would highly reccommend this teacher. Also very fair grading scale.

Dr. Buchanan is a great professor and knows the material very well. She is very helpful and her office hours helped me alot. The material is not that simple but if you study and come to class and help you will be fine. It was a great class and I ended up with a B-. I would recommend her.

Enthusiastic about chemistry

Very hard class, u study for her so much it's like a job...

I had her for the lab section, and I could tell she HATED me. But, it's all good. I managed to get an A in the class, but she didn't like helping me too much. I relied on Yeakel's help more. I didn't mind her as a teacher though. Buchanan is cool enough.

Nicest Chem instructor I've seen at HFCC. Very helpful and humble. It wasn't an easy A but very easy compared to the crazy Yeakel. Many changed majors because of L. Yeakel. My friend dropped school because of her. Whoever you choose just stay away from L. Yeakel, She'll probably destroy you!! Except if u r senseless & w/ NO HUMANITY, u'll like her.

She is a very nice teacher. I love talking with her, if you ever need her help she's always there in her office if you need the help. You do have to work hard and study for every exam, she will provide you plenty of practice problems, but don't do the same ones over and over make sure you do a variety of problems!!!

She is very knowledgable and loves her work. Overall, she is the ideal professor and I wish they were all like her. She is prompt, thorough and patient. There is a ton of homework and wish she would have told us not to buy the book though.

Great Chemistry Professor! Very helpful and understanding. She will always be there if you need help. Her exams are a little hard but if you put some time into it you will probably get an A. Plus she makes the exams out of 150 though there is 165 possible points. This helps a lot. PLUS, she is great in explaining the subject. I have learned a lot!

She talks a lot. just dont take her in the morning b/c you will fall asleep. she gets kind of boring tho she tries to tell jokes but there not so funny. her tests are kind of hard but if you study a lot you will do good.

I would definitely recommend her to anyone who asked!!!! she is very thorough and knowledgeable. she is not rude, nor does she make anyone feel stupid for asking questions. before this class i knew little about chemistry and was afraid i was not going to pass but i learned a lot and did just fine!!

Don't bother buying the textbook, she will give you everything you need for notes from her power point slides. Chemistry is a pretty hard subject for most people, she does her level best to help you understand the topics covered. Does not assign as much OWL homework as others, and makes some count as extra credit.

This class is hard and is definitely NOT an wasy A. Dr. B was a good teacher and knowledgeable about the subject. She does talk a lot and there is a lot of info to cover. I took it this spring and would definitely recommend taking it in the regular semesters as trying to cram all of this information into an 8 wk semester is extremely challenging.

I took Dr. Buchanan for CHEM 131 this past spring and loved it! She's very helpful, encourages questions, and her tests are pretty easy yet you learn a lot. You still have to go to class and study. I really liked taking her class in the spring because it went by so fast. Definitely recommend.

she is a very nice teacher. she knows what she is talking about and explains very good. fair on grading exams and very helpful. she has a lot of resources and practice on ucompass. if u come to class, practice at home and do labs, u will be fine.

Dr.B is a great teacher. Just stick with the rules,study well, and ask her questions to understand more. She's very helpful, i kinda enjoyed this class with her :)

All and all she was not a bad teacher. Chemistry is a hard section and it takes a lot of work. She is crystal clear with her lectures and spends plenty of time answering questions and going over subjects over and over again. Took her in the spring but still got a B out of the class. Test arent hard and always have extra credit just study.

Use the exam sheets and practice tests. Worksheets helped alot. Can't work together on labs, but i'd just go to her office hours or email for help when i got stuck. Follow the rules and its not bad.

She is a wonderful teacher. Made chemistry intresting and relatable to life. Very clear on instructions. 15 bonus points on every test. Practice exams (old tests) for the tests you are preparing to take. Always there for help! I got an A+, its definately capable of doing.

Use the practice exams and worksheets she posts online. I go to office hours if I get stuck on those. It's not too hard but I have to study more than for bio.

All you have to do to have a good grade is keep up with the class and try not to fall behind, also she is gives you so many resources to study for an exam.

Dr. Buchanan is a great professor! I was terrified of this class and she made it bearable. She relates the coursework to real life and that helped so much. She also gives you plenty of resources to use, and practice exams. Also gives ex/cred on each exam including final. Not an easy class by any means but if you work hard and study its manageable.

Dr. Buchanan is an excellent instructor who is absolutely passionate about chemistry. The lectures were clear and manageable and she is careful to be sure students understand the subject matter. She relates chemistry to everyday concepts and she is very funny. Labs support class lectures and are very interesting. Frankly, best instructor ever.

She's very helpful. Always works with partners. If you're having difficulty understanding she will help you. She tries her best to get you to understand the material. Labs are usually fast and can get them done with an extra 30mins to spare. She gives examples and goes through labs with us. Very helpful too bad she's attached to Samer Hanna.

Dr. Buchanan was great professor. She was always willing to help me out during or after class. I will say she seems to play favorites but lucky for me, I was on her good side. If you come to class and work hard you will have no problem! I'm planning on taking future chem classes with Dr. B.

I love her! Online homework is really annoying and long but if you do it all at once and get it out of the way it helps your grade. She's corky and funny. Labs are easy if you pay attention to instructions. She doesn't mention things that aren't on the exams. I recommend taking it in the spring or summer. She's very very helpful. Don't buy book

Shes Great! Very clear with her lectures, just prepare to do some work.

She really knows her stuff, but she goes off on tangents and you get lost in the lectures. She's nice, but very strict as far as lab papers go. You cannot work with any other student or teacher, only her and her office hours always change, so it's hard to see her. Working with others? Expect a zero. She's very knowledgeable, but very difficult.

I have always hated chemistry and i was scared to take this class, but Dr buchanan was an amazing professor who made the material easy. her exams aren't that hard if you studied. i barely studied and i ended up with a B. she is the best chemistry teacher

Buchanan is a good professor. She's very nice and very helpful in her office when she's available. She gives 15 points of "cushion" extra credit points per 150 point exam. SHe offers practice exams to study off of although they are babied for the first two tests. She's a much better explainer than either of the yaekels. Just study her slides

Mrs. Buchanan is really a sweet lady. However, she is a tough grader! Exams are exactly like the practice exams she provides on Moodle, just different numbers used. This class is difficult, so be prepared to show up to lecture, pay attention, take notes, and turn in everything on time.

Out of all chem prof at HFC shes the best. Shes v nice and cares a lot. Dont be fooled, this isnt an easy class, the exams are hard but dr.b is always in office hours to help. Lab was genuinely fun and she helps u the best she can. Gives practice exams that are almost identical to the exams, just study and try to attend lecture as much as u can

HFC's chem dept is terrible, Dr. Buchanan is the best you can get. Chem has always been hard for me, & covid moving it online made it even harder. Dr.B did a good job explaining the material, speaks clearly, and is very kind. Her tests are like the study guides so make sure to do those. The hw is good practice. There are 3 tests, OWL hw, & a final.

She's definitely the best you can get at HFC, she's funny and has office hours if you have any questions. She provided practice tests that were very similar to the format of the exams which helped a lot. Aside from the tests, you have OWL homework and if you do it before the exams you get extra credit. If you're taking chem at HFC, I recommend her!

She makes it HARD. Just when you think you understand the notes and the study guide, the test comes and you question everything you studied. She is accesible outside class and is generally very nice and knowledgeable but the class is just hard.

Dr. Buchanan is a great teacher that is kind and throws out a few funny jokes here and there. You really have to pay attention and watch all of the lecture videos to get a good grade. You have to work for the grade you want, because it shows.

Do the homework! If u master the homework & practice exam questions u shouldn't have a problem w/ the exams. Instant feedback & multiple tries for homework. Get lectures done before lab so u already know the concepts. All exams have extra credit. For most chapters, there are only a few main equations u need to know how to USE WELL, and u r good.

She was one of the best professors I've ever had. Her class is very difficult but thats to be expected, chem141 will be hard no matter the professor. Her lectures were great and she explains everything that will be on the test. As long as you take lots of notes, study, and show up to class you should do good.

A really good choice for chem 141. I took it accelerated in the summer and she gives 15 points out of 150 extra credit on the exams no matter what. The most important thing is cengage! If you do cengage and her practice exams then you can pass no problem. Our class started with 12 people and only 4 were left at the final. THE CLASS IS HARD!

Very accommodating and fair, a lot of material covered in this class though.

Not an easy A! You have to work for your grade, many aren't use to that in a community college. She's a good grader, always gives partial credit even if it was wrong. Her lectures were LONG! I opted out and bought clutch prep (no regrets). Very test/quiz, and homework. You can't slack in this class! Workload is the same in every chem class :(

Dr. Buchanan is one of the greatest professors that I had since I was in college. She makes herself very clear in my opinion. Everything is well explained in her lecture videos. However, a lot of heavy work is needed with her in order to get an A with her, which is a good thing in my opinion because she wants us to be stronger.

The class is hard, yes, but she does a very good job at explaining it. Occasionally she might go little off topic but thats usually triggered by students. The problem isnt necessarily the Professor, its Chem 141 itself

Took her for 141 Lecture (Fall 2022). She answered questions well, and had loads of office hours. Goes a little fast, so ask questions to soften the pace. Test overall easy, and get to make up 1. Make sure to ask questions earlier to catch up with her. Homework wont be extended softly. The lab was clutch (with Dr. Daley).

I had her with a hybrid learning format and I didn't think she was bad at all. Very friendly, however chemistry is tough sometimes.

This professor is very underrated. She is, hands down, my favourite teacher. She teaches well and always reminds you of due dates. She gives out many quizzes in lab, but they are very helpful practice for the exams. Take her. U will not regret.

Chem 142 is no joke, it's difficult. Though I feel as if the other students here are taking out their frustration from the content on Dr. Buchanan. I am not here because I got the grade I desired, Tam here because she did everything she could to help me get the grade I desired. She is highly intelligent, caring, and most of all, fair. I recommend.

Chem 142 is no joke, but Professor Buchanan is fair and caring. Attend lectures, use the textbook, and leverage tools like ChatGPT and unstuck AI for study prep - it'll pay off.

All of these reviews are either fabricated or I am with the wrong professor. Professor Buchanan is amazing, caring, and very informative on all aspects of chemistry. I genuinely wonder who is writing these reviews and if they are even talking about the same professor because it is outright wrong to spread misinformation on such a great instructor.

If you're a passionate student and you aren't expecting an A to be handed to you, Buchanan is perfect. Buchanan not only cares about her students, but she also tries her best to explain anything you have trouble with. If you need extra help, go to her office hours, and you'll be set. Most of the people who give bad reviews cheat in her class.

Pay attention in lecture, and you're set. She's super kind and gives you all the help you could need in class and office hours. If you're expecting an easy A, go major in business. She's truly one of the better professors I've had; most of the bad reviews are from cheaters who got caught. She gives 15 EC on each exam and is amazing.

Chemistry in general is a tough subject. Attending lectures aren't enough, if you want an A, show up to office hours, do the online worksheets, take the homework seriously. My exam average was an 87,I got 100 on the final, all I did was the practice exams and show up to her office hours. Also make sure you are religious Allah will help you as well.
