Mrs. Deputy is a very smart woman...she just does not know how to teach what she knows to students. Her notes are nothing like her tests. I feel like she is tricking us when she does that.
Mrs Deputy was an awsome professor, her tests were easy if you studied the notes and read the book. Recommend for lab and lecture!!
Ms Deputy is not a easy class for those who do not want to put in the time. Her tests are tough but if study and learn the material you will actually learn alot from her class. I enjoyed her lecture style alot.
Not impressed. Her test are horrible. Her notes don't match what the book says. Then when she tests you, you have two right answers or she fills in her key wrong so you get it wrong. But then she says she curves it so...thats supposed to make up for it. But it doesn't she only curves for her mistakes. So the curve is crap.
I agree her curve is stupid if you happen to put down the wrong answer like she did on the test you get extra points but if not it doesn't help you, you end up evening out. So it's helpful to the people who didn't know the answer.
She was a great teacher, very intelligent and helpful. Her test are easy if you study your notes, and if you take good notes, she doesn't make any surprises on the test which is nice.
Her class was so hard that I ended up having to drop it. She is not understanding when it comes to emergency's (ex. you have a last minute surgery and miss a quiz, you cannot make it up). I never knew where her questions for the tests came from...I studied the book and the notes and still couldn't figure it out. I would NOT recommend her.
OMG I HATE HER FOR LECTURE BUT SHE IS OK IN LAB I HATE HER TEST IN LECTURE CUASE I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE SHE IS GETTING ALL THE QUESTIONS FROM BUT I WILL ADMIT THAT IF THE CLASS AVERAGE IS POOR SHE WILL LET US DO CORRECTIONS FOR HALF THE CREDIT WHICH IS A BIG HELP BUT STILL HER TEST ARE CRAZY IN LEC LAB IS ALRIGHT QUIZES ARE GOOD & PRACTICALS ARE OK.
Sweet & knowledgeable HOWEVER she's doesn't put out many hints on what to expect on practicals(2 tot.) or quizzes (weekly). No reviews given so you're left feeling you have to study everything--then you realize afterwards you really didn't study what you needed to. The class avg. on her first practical was 50! No extra credit. Busted butt for a B.
If you take good notes and study ALL of the notes you will do good in her class. I got an "A". I work full time and have a child. If you put in the effort you'll get a good grade. She made the class fun and intersting. She does talk fast so you have to pay attention. She's willing to answer any ? you have and if she doesn't know she'll find out
Staceys Class is Tough but even though i did not pass I learned alot, her class was very eye opening. That was my first semester i did not pass much. I cant wait to take her for Chm 111. Ya her notes are the key to the test. Memorize that and the histories in the book and your golden. shes big on teaching you the ways that no longer work.
i like her a lot. She explains everything very well & in depth. If u take good notes in her class then u dont even have to study from book..all u can study is just notes & get good grades. I had her for lecture & i got A. I m not sure about lab. So, i recomend her for biology..really good teacher !!!
Mrs. Deputy was really nice and in general her test werent that hard just she gives u like 5 or 6 essays or short answers to do.
She is not as easy as people say she is. When she lectures you must write fast notes. I caught her several times making mistakes with her lecture, versus what it said in the book. She is tricky with her wording when it comes to her tests and quizzes. You can study all you want, but it is the material she barely covers that is usually on the tests
this teacher knows her material she majored in it so attend class for the quizzes they help same ?'s on the test but the ?'s very tricky so watch out very firm and stern no lead way what so ever what you get is what you get she does drop the 2 lowest assignments grades but in return hits you with a cummalative final
Excellent professor. She goes into details and doesnt mind answering your questions. Is always understanding, is the best bio professor.
I have Mrs. Deputy for online lecture. She is great! I highly recommend her. She is very nice, helpful, and quick to respond.
Ms Deputy is a quality instructor. She is strict and by the book and if you're looking for an "easy A", forget it! She expects you to put a lot of time and effort towards the subject but how else will you learn it? Get a general idea about Biology and some Chemistry before taking this class. Ms. Deputy is understanding and helpful-just ask.
One of the best professors out there. If every teacher was like her, the world defenitely would be a better place. I think, it is an honor for TCC to have her. People like Ms.Deputy should teach at top-notch Universities. Tests are not treaky: she gives learning objectives and if you cover everything in them - there are no unexpected things in a te
GREAT PROF. Very accommodating and helpful. I took this over the summer and still found it to be manageable. Tests include multiple choice, short answer and essay. Wants you to do well, even posted pics of lab slides on Blackboard. If you are willing to put in the effort you WILL do well!
I asbolutely loved this class. I did one night of lecture and two morning lab days a week and I really liked it. The lecture was really layed back and easy to talk. The whole class was women and we just talked about a million things relevent to the chapters. Tests are easy if you study. Practicals in lab are super easy. XT credit offered.
She is very helpful and she explains the materials extremely well. So well that she should write her own textbook and lecture from it. I highly recommend her for Microbiology. She is also very nice and relates the materials to real world situations.
I found her exams very difficult, no matter how much I studied. I think I could have studied for months on end and still barely pass her exams.
I took Mrs. Deputy's course online and then went in for lab 2 mornings. She is a great instructor for online classes. She gives excellent powerpoint notes. The tests for lecture are difficult. You really need to study the material well. I enjoyed her lab alot. She made it interesting & she's very helpful.
Do not take this teacher. Her tests do not match anything that she teaches. Alot of her test questions are incorrect and she does not correct them. Do not waste your money or time.
one of my not so good professor. She just need to know how to teach to people and make sure that everyone is comprehending what she is talking about. Test in lecture is a bobo, lab ok. I recommend talking other instructor like Ms. Sourbeer. I took her in A&P 1 and 2 and I made an A for both.
Ms. Deputy is the best bio teacher ever. I remember everything that I was taught in her class. But you have to come to class and study if you dont then you will fail the test. But everything she teaches is definetly on the test. She will work with you if you need help
IF YOU WANT TO PASS BIO150 I RECOMMEND TAKING ANOTHER INSTRUCTOR FOR LECTURE LIKE MS SOURBEER. LAB SHE IS OK. BUT DO NOT TAKE HER IN LECTURE HER EXAM IS OUT FROM SPACE.
Took this class online over the summer and I would probably NOT recommend that to anyone else. Although she has good power points and she is helpful the tests are VERY tough. She uses tricky wording and the material is difficult enough without it! If you are looking for an easy class this is NOT it!!!
When I took Bio150 it's suppose to be introduction to Micro but her class is worst than A&P. I hated her class because her method of teaching is very difficult. Her exam and test consists of definations, matchings, fill in the blank, and few of multiple choice. Her lab practicle is time approx. 1 min each stations. It blows and it's irritating.
i love the way that she teaches and everything that she teaches are on the tests. she is an amazing teacher.
teacher knows her material but lack empathy to online students. for example, on week 3, she had us going over 60 page powerpoint on the same week she us giving us a quiz on the material. her lab teachings seems fun and easy but she's a tricky tester. you got to know her materials in and out. i am not into tricky teaching.
I am a B average student, and I have to study hard. Spent MANY hours studying for her tests and still couldn't pass them. Her wording is tricky and she is not a supportive instructor. When I approached her for advice, she shrugged her shoulders at me, and had no concern or encouragement. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS INSTRUCTOR!
She is a very tough teacher. These people on here were not lying. Her tests are no joke. You have to study A LOT to get a decent grade. She expects you to know every little detail. Expect to study for her class as much as you would for A&P. Take this class at the Norfolk campus I hear it is a lot easier then Chesapeake
Awesome teacher. I learned a lot and didn't have to do much studying. I had her form lecture and lab and got an A in both.
I am not into bio at all, but this class wasn't horrible. It was hard to stay focused because she reads directly from power points but she adds helpful stories and makes it a little interesting. Tests were kind of difficult but there was always extra credit on them.
I took her for microbio over the summer. Her test are not easy. Its mostly multiple choice and at least 2 essay questions. Practicals are fill in the blank like every other practical at TCC. The book is not needed for lecture because all of her notes that you need to know is in her power points. You can pass with a good grade but you have to study.
She is a great teacher. I would def recommend her to anyone.
Took her for online lecture and lab. She is a really great teacher, I would recommend her to everyone. Just study her objectives list and you will do great! Save yourself some money, the textbook for lecture is not needed.
Very clear and concise, although she does lecture right from power point and that can be very dry! Must study for her tests b/c they are long and in-depth
Wasn't a horrible teacher, just read straight for the powerpoints she gave you to print off of blackboard. Pretty boring couldve taught myself, but she counts attendance.
I took her online lecture. You need to study! If you read the chapters too, it will be easier to understand the powerpoints. Tests are easy if you study.
Overall she is a good teacher. She is willing to help her students when they have questions the only thing I didn't like was the fact that she was unorganized for her teaching matter if that makes since?? For example we go over the power points but then it's like she is scattered and jumps to next chapter. But she is very nice and knows her stuff
terrible teacher.
I had her for online lecture and I have no complaints. Study the powerpoints and the learning objectives and you will easily get an A. I got a B because I didn't study for one of the exams but that's my own fault. She was quick at replying to all emails. Quizzes are open book and exams are on campus. Didn't need the book at all.
Took her for online lecture and lab. You do not need the book so don't bother buying it! Her notes are on point point and quizzes/test come from that. The lab quizzes were directly from her learning objectives. Lab was extremely EASY with her, study your learning objectives. Responds quickly to questions via email.
Very easy going teacher! Lectures are always given using Power Points that she puts together, it's also very helpful that she has those slideshows available for download on BB, so the book really isn't used. As far as tests go, reviews are done in class sometimes as HW. Do the reviews, because you can expect some of those questions on the test!
Really made everything clear during lab.
Mrs. Deputy is a good teacher. I liked how she lectured, but her test questions were worded differently compared to her lectures. Tests seemed tricky. This class for me was harder than A & P I and II and I received an A & B for those classes. She does drop your 4 lowest class participation grades which include quizzes, homework, & group work.
If possiable take her for lecture & lab together. Print off your power points prior to class. If you keep up with the work and study. It is not that difficult.
I took her lab class once a week, so attending every class was essential to getting a good grade. She is a great teacher! It was easy to pay attention in class and she made everything easy to understand. Her tests and quizzes are no joke. Study the power points and labs you do in class or you'll fail. She is a fair grader & drops lowest quiz grade.
Very hard teacher! I got all A's except in her class! I got a C! expect to spend your semester studying and studying and studying!
I took Bio 150 lecture online and lab with Mrs. Deputy. There is a quiz every week and 2 practicals in lab, 3 test and a final in lecture. I took this course while working a full time job and received a B. Mrs. Deputy is nice. Test and quizzes are difficult but I passed them all. I studied everyday of the week to retain material. I would recommend.
This is my second class with Mrs. Deputy. I absolutely love her. Took Bio 101 lab with her this semester and got an A. You will have to study. Quiz every week. Study power points and learning objectives and know thoroughly what everything means on her learning objectives. 2 practical's. I wish she taught Bio 141 but I would def recommend her.
She is very helpful in the lab. if you dont understand something just ask. weekly quizzes and the labs are relatively short if you just work through it. once you finish the assignment you are free to leave or stick around and study. the practicle was kind of difficult but i didn't study for them and still did ok.
Deputy's online class was crystal clear. She posted assignments on each chapter, with extra practice quizzes that were ungraded. Posted video of herself lecturing - helpful if I needed to hear it again after reading the textbook and notes. Multiple choice tests from power point notes. Read Read Read text AND notes. Difficult material, clear prof.
Wonderful teacher, relates to students, she seems to remember the struggle with college classes. not too heavy course load, tests are 60ish multiple choice with 2 short answers. She drops 3 lowest grades, like quizzes or HW- Micro is somewhat hard material but her notes are good and tests are straight from notes, Did not really need the book. take!
Mrs. Deputy is by far my favorite teacher ever taken at TCC. I took her during the summer and did not one time dread having to come to her class. Micro is pretty hard but she is very straight forward. She gives many assignments such as a quiz every week in lab and worksheets in lecture which are open notes so theres no reason not to get an A.
I took Bio 101 Lab only with Mrs. Deputy and she was great. There is a quiz every week and she does drop one. There are two practicals. Study power points and notes, come to class, and you will do fine. I received an A and I took 5 other classes while working full time. Mrs. Deputy is very helpful and resourceful. Ask questions if you have them.
This professor is very helpful and nice. The material was really tough. The power points were long but had all of the important info in them. Her lectures are very straight forward and well organized. She does a great job of explaining things, making them easier to understand. I really enjoyed having her as a teacher.
She is very nice, down to earth, and funny too. She explains things extremely well so anyone can understand. She tells you exactly what you need to study in the learning objectives and power points. You can tell she loves what she teaches yet remembers that she is teaching people who are probably clueless when it comes to micro. Take her! Love her!
Clear power points on blackboard, sticks to syllabus and grading criteria stated, fair and cares that you learn. Ms Deputy explains things in a clear manner and her weekly quizzes are pretty straight forward. The practicals are tough.
Stacey Deputy is a great professor and it is not at all a boring lab. First thing at the beginning of each class you have a quiz from the lesson previous lesson learned. All of the objectives and words that you need to know for the quiz are on blackboard. You will want to attend every class because some questions on the quiz are from the lab.
Excellent professor. No excuse for a bad grade in her lecture class as long as you put in the work. The tests all come straight from the notes. She stays on schedule. Numerous opportunities to pull up grade if you do bad on one test.
I worked full time while going to school full time and it was not easy with this class, but manageable. She has A LOT of trick questions on her exams. I would get an easy A on all of her quizzes but nearly fail her exams because of her MANY trick questions. I overall would not recommend her.
Ms. Deputy was my second lab course since going back to college. Her class was night and day compared to A&P. She gives you everything you need to succeed, but you MUST work for it. Studying for exams is necessary. Honestly, my classmates and I agree, her tests and exams became progressively easier. FYI The content is decided on by the department.
Micro is a dense subject, however, Professor Deputy makes it easy to understand. Her panopto lecture recordings are great! This class does require constant studying, so try not to fall behind! Lecture grade consists of Assignments (25%- learnsmart, DB's, quizzes), first three exams (55%), and the cumulative final (20%). No trick questions on exams!
I took Microbiology prior but had to drop and I thought then my professor was good until I had Professor Deputy. She is a real gem. I had to miss the first two weeks of class because TCC kept dropping my classes and she was so understanding. Made sure I was caught up and her quizzes are based off of her Learning Objectives. YOU MUST READ.
You'll be doing a lot of busy work with this online instructor. 2 research papers (for online and in class). Due dates unrealistic with an online class & lab. Tests aren't too bad 50-60 questions, but 60+ question homework & quiz or discussion board post with every chapter/every week. Very hard to please with grading on short answers & the papers
If you have a life outside of school, do NOT take this online course. The 'weekly' work to be done has outrageous due dates. An Exam on Thursday, research paper due Monday, and 80+hw questions and quiz due Wednesday and Thursday. So within ONE week, you have all of this due, PLUS lab work to finish. Very unrealistic for reason we take online class
Prof Deputy was awesome. If you do the learning objectives she gives for each chapter, you'll do great. She responds promptly to e-mails. It did take a little while to get grades back for 2 (easy) research papers. I'd def take her again for online classes. She does post video lectures which are helpful if you're not understanding something.
I took the online lecture class with Prof Deputy and lab with a different professor. In my opinion I would not recommend taking it that way, it was difficult. I enjoyed Lecture with Prof Deputy . Weekly quizzes or discussion boards, 2 essays, 4 exams and 1 final. You HAVE to study. Learning objectives and her lecture videos helped a lot!
She grades really hard and dont give any slack. dont get sick , dont miss any days , because there is a quiz every day in lab. I would not recommend all she do is read off a PowerPoint. She do offer to tutor during office hours but shes not fun at all
She takes time to explain things/answer questions. Recommend taking her for lecture and lab. Tends to take a couple days to grade exams. Her learning objectives and powerpoints are helpful for studying. She does not make class harder than it should be.
She is a great Professor. Microbiology is more on the difficult side, regardless of what professor you take. You HAVE to put in the work. If you do her learning objectives and her study her power points you will get an A. Her test does not have trick questions as stated some where below, just know the specifics on everything. Memorization is key.
Amazing professor! I took her last semester in the fall and she was nothing but caring and helpful . Answers any questions you have. Very approachable. As long as you focus on her learning objectives and continuously study, it should be an easy A! Most test, quiz and homework questions come straight from her power points. 10/10 recommend !
One of the best professors hands down at TCC for lab & lecture. 100% shows she cares for her students. Do the lab objectives and you will be fine. She will even check them for you if you ask. Lectures in a interesting way & gives a worksheet for each class to help learn. If youve taken A&P and made it through, this class is a cake walk.
Amazing professor! I would definitely take her again if she teaches any other bio classes. I always had anxiety that how I am going to pass microbio because everyone made me scared that it is hard. This professor had made it so much easier for me to understand everything and get a good grade. She is a real gem. Thanks thanks thanks to her
I took Professor Deputys 10 week Microbiology class over the summer. The lecture portion was online and the lab was in person. She narrates her PowerPoints which I found to be helpful for the online portion. The lab quizzes directly correspond to the lab objectives. Its Microbiology so you will have to study but she explains the material well.
Professor Deputy is awesome! She is extremely helpful and happy to answer any question you have. I had her for bio 101 lab and really enjoyed the class. She is a very lenient grader. Theres a short quiz each week on the previous labs content and 2 practical test but are not hard if you just look over the notes before hand.
Great teacher! This is not an easy class, but Lab is a lot of fun! If you study her power points for Lab, you will do great on the quiz's! Lecture is a different story. It's A LOT of information and pretty confusing. Lab quiz's are weekly, spelling counts, but if you only miss one or two letters she gives it. Lecture, the test are multchoice/essay
Very unrealistic due dates and expectations, if you have an outside life or a job, you will probably struggle with this class. Not only are the Lectures tedious and boring, but the amount you're required to learn and memorize is ridiculous, especially when you throw in the Lab, which is required. Also, not very accommodating
Microbiology is not an easy subject, but she made the online class very understandable. You have DB's, quizzes, and exams that require effort! If you listen to her video lectures you will have a better understanding of the information. Her tests are similar to her quizzes. Dont expect a walk in the park but I WOULD RECOMMEND HER FOR ONLINE.
Mrs. Deputy was great in lectrue and lap, in lap we did have quizes every week but they really help you prapare for your practical. She gives objectives for everything sometimes they can be alot but if you study them you will do great in her class.
Professor Deputy is amazing. She loves what she does and it shows. Be prepared to study- nothing will be handed to you in this class, but she is clear on what you need to know. Follow her instructions and you will do great! Very organized.
Took her for microbiology and it was a breeze! Micro is difficult and regardless of the professor you will have to study hard to get a good grade, but she provides you with all of the information you need to do well and provides great feedback to help. She gives you objectives for every quiz and exam so as long as you study hard you will pass!
Weekly DB's, 4 exams and quizzes for each Chapter. Enjoyed her class, her lectures kept me focused on the subject of the week. I took her for lab as well and I thrived because of her in depth lectures and PP slides. LISTEN to her lectures, take notes and study her slides! She is very organized and is the BEST science teacher thus far!
Just finished taking her for lab and lecture. Microbiology isnt easy to begin with but she makes It easier to understand with see weekly assignments , weekly quizzes ( both lab & lec ) and lectures. The lectures are posted online if you miss it or need to go back to review . Shes very organized which also helps ! Take her you wont regret it !
Professor Deputy is very organized. She gives power points and learning objectives for you to review before giving out a test. The class itself is not hard at all, just pay attention to her lectures and power points. She also does discussion boards for every week.
I am hoping to save someone from what I just endured. I would not recommend her at all. If you cannot make this class your life, she is not the professor to take. She puts on her syllabus that she rounds grades 0.4 down and 0.5 up but it is only for the end grade. She says to study quizzes and practice material but it does not show up on the tests.
I took Professor Deputy for micro lab and lecture and she was an excellent instructor! She only sets you up for success in her course. The quiz and exam material is exactly what she covers in lectures so study the slides! She teaches pathogenesis, symptoms & treatments which is valuable info for people pursuing a career in medicine! Take her class!
Watch her recorded lectures and take notes! That is the key to passing and learning the information. She is a great teacher. Don't buy the textbook. I would've totally taken her for BIO102 if she was teaching it!
Grades harshly and takes attendance extremely seriously. Gives daily quizzes with challenging, ambiguous, open-ended questions. I attended her class twice while being sick with a fever because she refuses to allow make-ups for quizzes if you miss a day. She constantly has a rude attitude. Her class requires a lot of studying.
Def take with her! I enjoyed both the Micro lecture & lab with Prof Deputy. The material is hard, but she posts the lectures & materials. Her lab practicals were fairly easy, lecture tests were hard but straightforward so study the powerpoint/lecture videos. I took as a summer course, work wasn't super tedious. DBs/Literacy projects/quizzes.
Professor Deputy is overall a pretty good lab teacher. However she makes students do a weekly quiz which I think is a grade killer and is a little much. We all already have tests and a lecture in our lecture class as is. One thing I am not a fan of when it comes to professor Deputy is she favors disability students and lets them sit and do nothing.
Prof. Deputy's BIO150 class is challenging but rewarding. She provides detailed lectures and materials to succeed. Staying on top of the work and using resources like Unstuck study for study prep are key. Overall, a great professor who genuinely cares about her students' learning.
Professor Deputy is very passionate and very thorough when it comes to teaching the contents. Even if the recorded lectures are long, but she explains it with very relatable examples that helps students to understand. She gives out a weekly quiz, 5 unit exams, and 4 literacy projects. Would recommend doing the literacy project because it helps.
