Chem is hard; she doesn't make it much easier, but her class is passable.
Gulde is a great chem professor. Her notes are fill in the blank powerpoints and very easy to follow along. She also posts extra reviews before exams and Is very good at making tough concepts simple.
She's a great professor! She gives helpful notes, and the tests aren't too bad. Best chemistry teacher I've ever had!
Can't say the professor is easy or hard because the quizzes and test are made by the chemistry department. But the way she teaches the material is very easy. I took chemistry in high school and it was more difficult than this course. A complete joke for people who are good in science.
Take her if you are willing to attend lectures cuz otherwise you might as well take anyone, the exams are same for all sections. What makes her awesome is that she has outlines for each chapter that you fill out in lectures. Helps SO MUCH in understanding, remembering the material and reviewing be4 exams. She is super helpful, very nice person.
Attend class, fill out the lecture outlines. They are so so helpful in understanding, remembering the material, as well as studying for quizzes, exams, and mastering chemistry. Tests are made by the department so it's the same for all sections. She is super helpful, very good at explaining stuff, very nice, take her.
She was not helpful whatsoever. Did not learn much in her class. Most stuff was self taught.
She is so helpful, she puts up fill in the blank outlines for every chapter and holds review before each exam. She moves quickly but will stop to answer any questions you have. Just go to lecture and you will do fine.
Sadly, she is the only option for CHE102 besides another instructor who just got out of grad school. She reads off of the slides which she does not even write herself. The calculations in lecture often have many errors and then we wonder why exams don't make sense. The clicker questions are also extremely useless, they don't reflect the exam.
Gulde is a very approachable professor. She's super nice and is always willing to help during her office hours. Chemistry, overall is a difficult subject but she really tries to break down for her students. Take her if you can!
She reads of the slides but sometimes she does a good job of explaining some topics. she isn't the best teacher but she gets the job done. the test are multiple choice.
one of my top 3 teachers in this school. this teacher is great! you can tell she really has passion for the chemistry and the way she delivers the info is easy to comprehend. attendance is not mandatory but she does care if you stay in the class. just do the work and you should be straight. as for me i, got lost, but it was my fault. great teacher!
You don't even need to go to her lectures because she posts all the materials online. However, when you go to lectures she's very clear with the material and will answer your questions if she sees your hand up. Tests are very fair and mostly based on doing the calculations related to chemistry right. Overall, very glad I had her.
Really cool lady. She is quite corny though so beware, lol. Overall, she was pretty clear in her lectures. She posts everything online so a lot of students stopped going and self taught but I found her lectures to be a lot better than self teaching. I even found her 400 student lecture to be more helpful than my much smaller recitation class.
Good profesor. Easy class if you attend lecture, read textbook, and do Mastering Chemistry.. otherwise it may be somewhat difficult.
She is very enthusiatic. And explains things pretty well.
She's easy to understand, uses fill in the blank outlines that are very thorough. You mostly need to go to class to fill the blanks but she posts the slides at the end of the week. You study just the outlines you'll be fine.
very helpful and easy to understand, notes are fill in the blank she posts the full notes online after doing them in class, going to class helps a lot says stuff in lecture thats not on the notes, notes are great and detailed examples help a lot for mastering chem MUST TAKE for any chem class
Amazing professor. It can be an easy class if you attend lectures, read textbook, and finish homework on time.
DO NOT THINK ABOUT ANY OTHER PROFESSOR. She writes the tests, she has the best lectures, she has the best slides. Banerjee is a close alternative. There is a reason she gets her classes filled quickly. Just listen to what she says, attend review sessions, do practice tests and mastering, and review slides, and go for help. btw she looks claymation.
Take her if you need this class. Her lectures are what makes you pass. She is the only one who is clear and her slides resemble the tests. Take her while you can.
It helps to attend lecture because she is helpful when she explains the notes. She does put all notes online so you can miss a few classes and not fall behind. Do all of the Mastering Chem homework, it is the only way to really learn it. 102 is much more difficult than 101 i had to put in a lot more time to get an A in 102 compared to 101.
Although she puts up all the lecture slides online, going to class really helps understand the material because she explains everything very clearly. Tests are fair and she puts up practice exams which are exteremely helpful. If you put in only a little effort, it's easy to get a good grade.
Great professor I would definitely recommend her! Go to class because chem is not self-explanatory plus there are clicker questions. Mastering chems will help you on test! Do well on the tests and don't stress about labs unless you are doing poorly on tests. She explains everything clearly and she is approachable. I never used the textbook.
She is a really good professor. Her notes are really easy to understand, just look through the notes, and do mastering in chemistry, you are guaranteed an A in the class. She give clicker question, so go to class to get the 20 pointes.
Do not buy the textbook, print out the lecture outline and study based on that. Do mastering in Chem, and go to lecture for clicker questions. It you pay attention and do the work, its an easy A. Make sure you do well on lab if you mess up on the exams. It will help a lot.
CHE 101 is an easy class in general. Great professor, easy to approach and find ways to help students! Gives out practice exams before each test which is very helpful! She gives out questions in class that counts towards attendance.
Gulde puts way too much material on her powerpoints. Her lectures are long and brutal to get through, but she is not a horrible prof. I used the textbook to get the grade I got, if I had relied on her notes, I would have gotten like a C.
I took 101 at a university in Boston then took 102 at UB during the summer. Dr. Gulde was so much better than the professor I had in Boston. Compared to the other professor I had I could tell she was very careful to be clear and accurate in her lectures and I felt like I knew what to expect for exams. Pace was comfortable. Don''t buy the textbook.
CHE 102 is significantly harder than 101, but she is definitely the best professor for 102. She goes through a lot of examples in lecture. She is very clear. Her notes are very helpful. They are fill in the blank, so you have enough time to pay attention to her and write. Exams are 25 multiple choice questions- terrible way to test chemistry.
Dr. Gulde's pace in teaching the material is not too fast or slow. She takes her time to teach us the material so we understand it. Do the Mastering Chemistry homework because they were a big help on the quizzesexams. Her notes were perfect and were easy to understand. I used them to study for the exams. Great lectures and professor!
She is a great teacher, as she goes slow and will repeat concepts in different ways if students are confused. Do the mastering chemistry homework because even though it's long, it helps with exams and quizzes. If you do mastering chemistry and go to her office hours or TA office hours don't see how you get anything lower than a B.
Overall the class is easy its just the grading of the exams and labs that is ridiculous, but that's not her that's the chemistry department. The professors never even see the exams or whats on them. She is a great professor, very clear, gives you fill in the blank notes to help you follow along.
Although lecture was the full hour and 20 mins, she was very helpful , went through all the material that would be in our homework assignments and exams and explained them well. She puts her powerpoints online after she has finished that section, it still helps to go to lecture. There is a curve but I don't think it really helps.
She makes chemistry bearable. she uses lecture slides that are clear and she explains them well and does practice problems. i signed up for another one of her classes because i liked the way she taught. just make sure you go to class or you will fail.
Tests are standardized by the chemistry department. She uses fill in outlines, and explains along the way (while people jotting their notes) on power-point (examples are on there too). She always stops to ask if anyone has questions and gives extra examples if you're not clear. The homework is also really helpful, so I would do it (part of grade).
She posts her notes online, although showing up to class is a must. She gives outlines and video references so those are nice. The course itself is NUTS but she is the best professor out of the bunch. If you can get anyone, GET HER and quick. Before her class is full.
She's a good professor. I had her for Chem 101 and 102, and I like that she posts her slides and outlines to the lectures on UBLearns, so that you can follow along and take notes on the stuff she provides. However, I do know that her lectures are based on exactly what's in the book. The HW is what will help you pass tests and quizzes.
I personally am not a huge fan of chemistry but this class is not hard. It is one that can be passed easily if you do well on the labs and exams.. Don't skip her lectures because she doesn't record them and sometimes she gives good test tips* in class. Her lectures are on the long side so expect to go to the end. Also she gives lots of examples.
Her slides are clear cut clear for 101. I have never taken AP Chemistry so the last chapters were a little bit time consuming to grasp. However, the exams weren't so bad. As long as you knew what was going on in the class, how to manipulate questions, have a sense of reasoning you will breeze with flying colors. I stopped going to class too. GL!
CHE 101 was pretty easy, Prof Gulde made the material easy to understand and she always asks if there are any questions in class. The class overall was graded throughout all of CHE 101 (not just for her). But imo Gulde is the best prof for chem101 because she is clear about the material and tries to make it easier for her students to learn.
It really depends if you can grasp more numerical questions verse conceptual questions to pass chem. I'm more or a math kind of person so it was easy, but there are still conceptual questions on tests. Go over mastering chem and the lecture material because there will be questions about graphs and just memorizing info. Great class overall!
Dr. Gulde is the best out of the Chem 102 prof and she's sorta funny. This class is a lot tougher than Chem 101, but honestly if you put in the effort you'll do fine! Just go through mastering chems religiously before the exams and make a study guide for yourself for each (thick) chapter outline she gives you, and you should be A okay! Good luck :)
This is the second semester that I have had her and she is great! Her lecture outlines are clear and the practice problems she does in lecture are a great help on the exams. The entire chem department has a messed up grading system but that isn't her fault. Overall I thought this was an easy class.
As a college grad coming back to do prereqs, Dr. Gulde is the best professor I have EVER had, for any class. She is amazing at explaining complex ideas in a very easy way. Definitely take her! I hated chemistry in high school but I find 101 to be actually kind of enjoyable.
Understand the slides and how to solve problems. Textbook is not needed.
By far one of the best intro-chem professors. I had her for both 101 and 102. I got a C+ in 101 but then I started going to all her lectures in 102 and she made it all make sense so I got an A. Make sure to go to lecture. Its totally worth it and will give you that extra edge since she usually makes the tests.
Gulde is the best professor to take for 101 and 102. I did horrible in high school chemistry, but got A's in both 101 and 102 without too much effort. I really loved both classes, her powerpoints were clear and to the point so I never bought the textbook. The tests for 102 are hard, but Gulde doesn't make them the department does.
Wonderful instructor. Wish she taught more than introductory chemistry.
Dr. Gulde was my saving grace for Chemistry 101. I took it once with a different professor and couldn't stand it. Dr. Gulde has fill-in-the-blank lecture slides that really highlight everything you need to know for the tests and homeworks. She truly cares about teaching the class and making sure you know the material. I would recommend her any day.
Che101 was a tough class, but she has great fill in the blank notes and makes chem a little bit easier. All of her lectures are online so attendance is completely optional
Guide is a really good teacher especially for CHE101, she gives lecture notes for you to just fill in. DO THE HW its helpful for tests.
Gulde is the best! Her lectures and notes are crystal clear and she's very helpful if you go to her office hours. Labs are tough but the department makes them, not Gulde.
her lectures are good and the lecture skeletons are super helpful. practice exams are really similar to test, but the smallest mistakes will cost big points.
Notes were fill in the blank with powerpoints posted online so you don't have to go to class. She will call you out for talking during lecture. Notes are helpful, lectures are just her reading directly off of powerpoint. Don't buy the textbook.
Going to class was not mandatory, she read right off of the slides. Textbook was only useful when doing Mastering Chem, dont bother buying it.
I made sure to take CHE102 with her again in the spring semester. Went to lecture a total of 5 times but copied all of the notes online and was the same as being present in lecture. Her skeleton outlines are amazing and you can tell she put a lot of thought into mapping them out. Don't buy the textbook, you won't need to use it.
Made sure to take her again for Chem 102, seriously a great prof. Her skeleton outlines are very helpful when doing the homework and great to study from for the tests. Class attendance really is not mandatory as long as you go online and fill in the notes its pretty self explanatory. Definitely take her if you can!
I was very happy to have her and I'm disappointed I won't have her for the spring semester. The notes she makes for the class are great and going to class isn't necessary since it's recorded online. The hw online can sometimes show up on the exams so actually do the work! Don't bother buying a textbook never used it once.
Extremely clear lectures and notes. Starts from the basics and builds up. Always simplifies and gives great examples to help you understand. Practice tests are available and are VERY similar to the real thing. You do not have to put too much extra work in. Go to/watch lecture, do Mastering Chem and you are set up for a good grade.
Good professor for a tough class. Makes the material very clear and is helpful when you go for office hours. Make sure to review her lecture notes and you're set
Not helpful AT ALL. Worst professor I have ever had in my entire life. I have taken Chem before and am failing. I go to every lecture, do homework and get 100s on the quizzes but what she says in class is so unclear and his tests have 4 questions that are unrelated to subject matter. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS.
She posts her notes online, although showing up to class is a must or you'll fail. She gives outlines and video references so those are nice but still confusing.
Although she puts up all the lecture slides online, going to class really helps understand the material because she explains everything very clearly. Tests are fair and she puts up practice exams which are exteremely helpful. If you put in only a little effort, it's easy to get a good grade.
her lectures are hard to understand
Honestly Chem is a hard subject in general, but Gulde has the best notes of the lot, they're fill in and super clear and cncise. She also gives practice problems at the end of each chapter which are super helpful. She doesn't make the tests so don't blame her if they end up being hard. In general she is the best in the lot for 101/102
She has the best lecture notes of all the chemistry professors. She also gives great examples and goes through the math in the problems. Definitely take her class if you can.
Gulde was a good professor, she knows her stuff. Chem 102 is a hard course, and she teaches it pretty well. However, I was not too much of a fan of her personally because she knows my dad and actually said pretty rude stuff about him to me one time because he asked her a simple question. Professor wise, she's great. Personality wise, not nice.
Dr Gulde is a great professor. i didn't know i was going to make it through Chem 102 but i did. her lectures are great, she's clear and just great.
Only had Ms. Gulde for a few days as a substitute, but she is truly a great teacher. She does a very good job of explaining and going in-depth with the material. She can go a bit fast, but if you pay attention you'll be fine.
She was great, very helpful
Dr. Gulde was an amazing professor. Going to her lectures is not mandatory, but I highly recommend it. She goes over all the problems with great detail and answers all the questions. Her skeleton outlines were probably the best aspect of the course. Definitely choosing her for CHE 102!
She's very good at teaching and her every class has some practice problems. She would go over them with the whole class to make students understand better.
Dr. Gulde is a great professor. Material is clearly explained, as are due dates and tests. She has office hours multiple times per week, which is very helpful. Looking forward to Chem 102.
I left my old chemistry professor for this one after receiving a low grade on the first quiz. Material and concepts clearly explained and has follow along skeleton lecture notes to use in class. She also makes her own PowerPoints which shows that she knows her material. With her I probably would not have passed chemistry 101.
She's an amazing professor hence why I'm taking her again next semester for 102. Her lectures may seem long and drag on but she goes overthings so in depth that as long as you put in effort you're going to remember it for the test. The tests are pretty straight forward, nothing crazy or anything you've never learned. I would highly recommend!
Very good. Clear lectures. Best chemistry professor for 101 and 102. Has amazing power points. Very good at explaining and very fair.
good , better than Shari.
101 felt like a breeze compared to 102. But I'm still on track to get an A in the course. The chemistry department is a mess at UB but Gulde is probably their saving grace because her outlines and lectures are by far the most understandable. Although she's a good teacher, be prepared to work for that A. The exams for CHE102 *extremely* difficult.
lectures very long but shes better than all rest of the chem dept. she writes the exams so use her notes but exams are very difficult yet. chem 101 was better than 102. class avg for exams a 29% . i wish she would review more than just say things and thats it. mastering chemistry is very hard and is a bit part of grade so it attendence. work hard
Good professor but looks a lot better because the others aren't good. Exams are difficult but if you go to class and follow her lectures and do/ understand the mastering chemistry you should be good. Curve is pretty big. They just started doing clicker questions this semester for points on your grade so class is mandatory if you want to do well.
She is so boring. Not only is chemistry boring, and hard, but the lectures go so fast. Some people like her, but I don't. I don't learn anything in the class. All I did during the semester is go to the TA's and make them explain the homework to me. She is a hard professor. But I guess it is expected with chemistry.
Class attendance mandatory for clicker questions. This is a small portion of your grade but easy points, and it helps in the end. Lecture guides available online are very helpful. Lectures are also recorded. This is one of those classes where if you do well in lab you will do well in class. Go to TA office hours for help with post labs. Study!
Gulde makes good, clear and easy lecture notes. Lecture can be boring but you don't have to go, all lectures are online. Really just study the lecture notes, do the homework and you will be fine. She can come off as condescending but she will help you.
She is a great teacher and her notes are an amazing format. I didn't do any work other than take notes, do the homework, show up, and the labs. VERY EASY CLASS and her notes explain almost every key concept to know. Go over past exams as they are very helpful in preparation for exams.
she is amazing, funny and the best for general chem. seriously take her and you gonna be fine. I jumped 3 letter grades after i took class with her.
Fantastic lecture outlines provided for you and all lectures are recorded.
Defiantly the best lectures, i took a lot of out of the lectures and their outlines. I would take this teacher for every chemistry course that i possibly can. Everyone can agree that she's the best. I got a 92, 64, and 84 on the tests (final weighted more) and failed 2 quizzes and still pulled an A.
From my personal experience and what I've heard from other chem 101 students, Dr. Gulde is probably the best chem 101 professor at UB. She clearly breaks down what we have to know for the course and makes notes for us to fill in as we go along in class. Dr. Gulde is also extremely helpful and pleasant in office hours. Try to take her if you can.
Whoever graded her poor were just straight bricks. She teaches very well and knows what she's talking about and she is friendly too.
Dr. Gulde is a fantastic professor. Her notes and lectures break things down and make the class very easy. There are no curve balls and she also gives practice tests to better prepare you for the final. I definitely recommend taking her class. Easy A.
Stacey gives you everything you need to pass in her class. Great choice for Chem 101/102. Easy notes. All answers come from lectures which are recorded.
Dr. Gulde does a very good job of explaining chemistry. Weekly homework and lab assignments are time consuming and sometimes challenging but help you learn the material. Not the easiest subject to learn but she made everything as clear as possible. Lectures and notes are posted online and final grades were curved.
Her outlines for chem notes and the lectures she gives are top-notch. She takes a difficult and rigorous course and makes it a little more bearable. She's open to questions and help and is excellent with outside of class communication. She's an awesome teacher!
I really like professor gulde as a person but her teaching just didn't do it for me for chem 101. she teaches extra things that aren't relevant for the test which is good to know, but messes you up when you end up studying for things that aren't going to be on the test.
Gulde's lectures were not helpful and the way she taught was fill in the blanks which I got nothing from. In this class you are assigned "Mastering Chem" which is the biggest pain and takes hours. You will need to get extra help to do well in this class. especially if you are not good at chem. (none of this is personal, she's a really nice prof)
I like her as a person and shes great one on one. She does fill in the blank notes so you have to attend or watch the recorded lectures. Chem 102 is challenging and they are difficult and nit picky exams. The exams destroyed me. Especially the final. Meeting with her and your TA make a difference for preparing for tests.
Dr guide is good professor, however, lectures are extremely long and boring. its a lot to take in in 50 minutes. i really recommend going to class rather than just watching the lecture recordings online like i did. labs and homework (theres a lot of it) saved me bc her exams are pretty rough. curve is nice but don't rely on it to pass
Dr. Gulde as a professor was solid but the class itself is a disaster! The homework assignments are ridiculous.. 25 multi-part questions every week and the best part is that the UB Chem dept decided to end the mastering chemistry subscription on the night before the final exam so students couldnt study their past hw assignments nor the textbook.
Dr. Gulde is probably the only professor at UB who gives you a lecture outline for you to fill during lectures. That's how you know she cares about your success. She gives very detailed explanations whenever you ask her a question, whether in office hours or during class. The only problem is that Mastering Chem is long and the exams are difficult.
Professor Gulde makes outlines to be printed for each chapter she goes over in lecture that are extremely helpful. She does practice problems while in lecture and explains step by step. All of he lectures are recorded and posted online so you can watch them instead. She gives mastering chem every week which is time consuming but helps tremendously!
Terrible teacher. Wouldn't take her again. Awful!
Too fast. Her teaching didn't work for me.
She was too fast and terrible
Dr. Gulde is a great professor. The only reason why people say she teaches too fast is because they're taking it over the summer and she suspects that the majority of the class is retaking it so she expects you to know the material already. She is not tenured so she gives lecture outlines for us to fill in so we won't be complaining as much.
Dr. Gulde is probably the most caring and easy science professor I have ever met at UB. I had her for CHE102 and I did not study for the exams, except I did all of my homework and went to lecture every day. The homework assignments are a lot harder than the exams, this is to prepare you for the exams. Overall, she is the best science professor UB
Prof gulde is not a very understanding professor. For che 102, you must focus more on the lecture material instead of practice tests. The way you studied for che 101 is definitely not the same way to study for che 102 and she failed to tell her students that. There were many questions on the test that were small details from lecture. Study hard!!
Easily my least favorite professor here. Yes, she does give you lecture outlines, but she flies through the material way too fast. Mastering Chem HW is way too long and nothing like what you learned in lecture! She expects you to know a lot of information that was never taught in highschool. Exams are super difficult & your grade is primarily tests
Great professor who truly cares.
She probably has to be one of the best Chem professors at UB, her slideshows are very helpful, the textbook is not necessary and she also has fill in the blank note packets which I highly recommend. Tests can be difficult, but if you study hard, no doubt that you will succeed. Dr. Gulde also takes time out of the lecture before an exam to review.
All lectures are recorded and posted online, so you dont need to show up to class.
She prepares students very well for exams. Gives out lecture skeletons to fill in and have pre lecture videos to help better understanding the class. One of the best chemistry professor in UB. Would definitely take her again.
Goes over A TON of material that isn't tested on and much of the questions on the exam are pulled from tiny things we barely covered. Labs are graded miserably
Amazing professor, makes things seem extremely less complicated and her pre-lecture videos help you get a whole understanding of the topic. The course overall is extremely difficult however, she is full of explanations and all the practice problems in class are extremely helpful.
This woman is great teacher. she was not even my professor but I still attended her lectures because they helped me more. after attending her lecture my exam went up 20 points.
Stacey is a great professor, but her tests are very hard and that can keep you from passing. She is very clear and makes sense in lecture but homeworks and tests made me struggle. Take her if youre willing to work for the grade.
Dr. Gulde did great work organizing her lectures to suit multiple learning styles. She incorporated videos within her slides, and puts questions on the slides for students to answer by hand raising. Although some students didnt like them, Dr. Gulde assigned videos to watch to fill in notes before class, which made time for group problems in class.
An extremely caring professor - always open to answering questions and has an ample amount of office hours. The material is tough, although, if you study a decent amount, do the homework assigned and practice problems you will get through it. GO TO TA HOURS. They are very helpful with homework and LABS, especially.
Professor Gulde is really good, we had to watch pre-lecture videos & would focus on sample problems in class which reflected possible/similar test questions. Mastering Chemistry is pretty time consuming but it will help you understand the concepts. I would have gotten an A- but the lab portion brings you down.
Dr. Gulde really explains concepts really well in her lectures. I went to her office hours a lot, and she was always eager to help explain. 100% the best CHE101 teacher. The Mastering Chemistry homework will take you a while, and the lab made me want to rip my hair out.
By far the best teacher for CHE101, very good about explaining everything in lecture and answering everyones questions to clear confusion. Does not require attendance or a textbook. Mastering homework assignments take a while but you have a week to do them. The recitation and lab takes so long but besides that its not bad. Highly recommend her!!
Dr. Gulde is an amazing professor, probably the best for Chemistry at UB. Her lectures are very detailed and she records them so you can reference them for studying. She takes the time to answer questions and goes over practice problems during lecture. She is also very willing to answer any and all questions during her many office hours
Shes literally a QUEEN!!!! Shes my all time favorite professor because she very good at teaching, explaining, and she actually cares about her students. Her test are not that hard, I actually found them easy because in lecture, all you had to do was pay attention for a few minutes and then you were good:)
She is a very good at teaching what she teaches, Anyone who has a hard time following Chem and understanding chem should definitely take her class. She makes things much easier to understand and her skeleton note sheets are amazing which I highly recommend. She also post Pl videos that gives you a heads up about what you will be learning in class.
Gulde has amazing lectures. Her notes are easy to follow along with and she tries her best to make the material as understandable as possible. Compared to other Chemistry professors, Gulde by far is the most approachable and most understanding
Gulde is an amazing professor and she provides these skeleton notes for every lecture so you just fill in the blanks. Those notes help a lot in studying for exams and completing homework. Gulde makes class very interesting and if you actually go to class you wouldn't be behind and you would pass the class with at least B-.
TAKE GULDE FOR CHEM 102! She is a one of the best professors at UB and takes her time in teaching the material. She always makes sure the class has a decent grasp of the topic before moving on and explains things in a way that is easy to understand. I actually took a different professor for 102, but ended up watching her lectures instead.
The best professor for CHE 101, very structured lectures as she provides lecture notes for you.
Took her for 101 and 102. Provides very interactive lectures during class time which allows you to better learn the material. Doing Mastering Chemistry also helps. Filling out the skeleton outlines is very useful for studying and doing homework.
Gulde is the best professor in her department. Exams are not that hard, you just have to go over your notes and MAKE SURE you attend class and PAY attention. Everyone who's taking chem has to do the same amount of hw, yes it can be long but it's an easy A, and quizzes are pretty easy too. Her notes packets are a long but it will help you.
There is a curve for CHE102 but I'm not sure about what the cutoff for A was in CHE101. There is homework almost every week and it is quite a lot, so try to do it daily. You'll be able to get an A if you follow her lectures and do practice exams. CHE101 has three multiple choice & short answer exams including the final but CHE102 only has MC exams.
stacey guide is a great option for general chemistry. she needs to teach orgs!! she hilarious and a genius when it comes to all things chemistry. I am so happy to have been able to take her for chem 101 and 102 I wouldn't have chosen any other professor.
One of the best chemistry professors at UB. She is not boring to listen to and takes the time to make outlined notes for you to fill out in class. She goes through lots of practice problems during lecture that are similar to the exams. Take her if you can
Dr. Gulde is a very nice professor, but I felt that she went way too fast. I couldnt keep up with most of the math related concepts and I got lost too early in the class.
Fell in a deep hole in the beginning of the semester started going to her office hours to get help and she really helped me dig out of that hole. I would recommend her for all students.
She takes the time to do practice problems and actually wander around the lecture hall to help people as you work on them. She is more than willing to answer any questions you have in class (yes, she will try to take time to answer your question in a hall of 300+ kids). Lecture moves fast, so be there and don't try to rely on the recordings alone.
She teaches interactive lectures. However she teaches at a very fast pace and I fell behind especially with the math aspects. I emailed her several times about meeting for office hours or setting up times to meet outside of office hours since they were so busy and she never contacted back. Just not very accessible outside of class.
She makes structured outlined notes for us and really go over practice questions in class. There's a lot of hw but if you take any other professor you still get the same amount. She goes around during practice problems in class to answer questions and helps students out. She doesn't talk that fast at all but the pace of the material is pretty fast
Attended most lectures, completed homework, watched extra study videos, studied and just barely made it to a C. The class is tough and you have to work for it. It is hard with a 200+ lecture to pay attention but it is important to comprehend the material. Take advantage of the practice exams she puts out and do not rely on the online lecture videos
Professor Gulde is the best chemistry teacher at UB. Her pre-lecture videos were helpful b/c she was able to go over the theory and concepts in detail so that she would have more time in lecture to do practice problems. She is very detailed oriented and concise with her explanations. I missed her so much when I took organic chem!
She's truly a gem! Probably the best professor in the whole chemistry department. She's willing to answer any questions, in class and during office hours. She has outline skeletons for you to fill out while in class instead of taking notes and has prelecture videos. Some of my friends watched her lectures instead of their actual professor's.
SHE IS A QUEEN! Such a caring, passionate, extremely intelligent, and thorough professor. If you put in the work, its easy to succeed in this class with her explanations and lecture outlines. Shes the best for both 101 and 102. Very approachable for office hours. There is a lot of hw but manage your time well and you should be fine.
Best Professor of all time. I had her for 101 but for 102 i had a different prof that wasn't the best. When covid19 forced us to go online she took over and her lectures saved my grade and proved to me she is the best and most intelligent chem professor in UB and the best ive ever had. Her online transition was very smooth and she is the MVP.
She is a great professor no doubt. However, whoever is in charge of the online exams needs to be fired. They are almost absolutely nothing like anything show in lectures or the homework. Totally ruthless and she just does not care about us at all it seemed throughout the whole course. I just wish this class was in person, it is impossible online.
Professor Gulde is a very nice woman overall and is very intelligent when it comes to chemistry. This is an extremely difficult course. Some things are stressed significantly in lectures, and then when it comes to the exams, it asks about the tiniest details. Also all practice questions are MC but the exams are open-ended, which made it difficult.
She is a tough grader, I remember on exam one, I dint use the right notation form and she took off about 20 points. But besides that, she is great. The class requires so much practicing, you will not pass without practicing! In the other hand, her cut-offs were extremely low (85 for an A). Email her if you have any questions, shes happy to answer
Amazing for CHE 101! She provides review videos and recommends which ones to watch in order to prepare for quizzes and exams (very effective). *Mastering chem is used for homework, which can be time consuming if you let it pile up too late. *For quizzes and exams, review terms and formulas, along with the homework set to "practice mode"
Shes really good. I stopped going to her lectures and just watched her review videos; she goes over everything u need to know for that topic. Do the homework and study It for exams. Just practice a lot and the course is easy. She also accessible outside of class if u have any questions and is easy to understand.
Very nice woman however, with the virtual switch in fall 2020 I thought that her teaching style for online students was extremely disorganized and hard to follow.
I didnt really go to lecture. Just watch review videos when you need to and make sure you know everything on the homework and you should be fine.
Dr. Gulde was the best professor I've had at UB so far. Her class is fair. Chemistry is a hard subject but she teaches it well and makes it easy to understand. She drops your worst quiz grade and worst homework grade. Do the extra credit at the beginning of the course when you don't have much work. She gives practice exams which is helpful.
Shes not the worse but not the best either. Doesnt really care if more than half the class fails. No extra credit or leniency for any type of situation at all. online exams are ridiculous. if youre not great at chem, stay on top of things & youre guaranteed to not fail at the very least.
Unfortunately Ms. Guilde is a bad professor plain and simple. On our first exam half the class was below a curved "D". She said all semester how another curve would not be implemented until we had to get the chair of her department involved and would you look at that! A curve! She's uninterested in her job and should leave.
Dr. Gulde is a very good professor for general chemistry for sure. However, the test she gives is pretty hard. You might understand her in lecture, but sometimes you won't be able to understand the homework problems or the exam. To succeed in this class, you need to do a lot of practice questions and make sure you understand the concept.
I took this class in spring of 2021 remotely. She is the BEST professor for this course. Yes, it is VERY challenging compared to 101, but not impossible. Her notes were especially helpful. Watch her lectures/ attend them, and watch all of her "PL videos" for extra notes. DO PRACTICE PROBLEMS DAILY AS WELL AS THE PRACTICE EXAMS. Y'all got this :)))
she goes really fast, but there is so much material to cover. wish she would do more example problems of different types of questions. would never be able to pass the hmwk without office hrs and help from TAs. she always pauses for questions and occasionally walks around the room and will help you solve a problem. txbk is mandatory but should be
I withdrew from her class due to a change in majors but I really liked having her as a professor. I took chem in HS and struggled but having her as a professor she explained things in a much better manner. Her class is definitely not easy but if you're dedicated to the hard work and access to help, you can pass her class. Homework can be a lot tho!
definitely felt like a weed out course. pretty challenging if you don't have a chem background but put in the time to study and pay attention you'll do fine
Gulde has great lecture outlines that make the lectures really easy to follow. Pretty long homework after every unit. Gives good extra credit opportunities. Practice tests are almost identical to the actual tests.
Her class is hard, all chemistry class is. But she explained everything more clearly than any teacher I've ever had before. Show up to lecture, take notes, do the homework (important!), put in the work, and you'll get good grades. She's super friendly during office hours and will help you out the best way she can. She makes chemistry bearable.
She explains material in a very clear and concise way, no complaints there. Homework due every week takes 1-2 hours. Beware of the exams - no partial credit at all so make sure you know your stuff!! A small mistake will lead to a 0/5 for that question. A little too memorization heavy, no cheat sheet is allowed for exams..
Really interesting lectures, good at explaining things. Provides guided notes specific to her lectures, which is nice. DO THE HOMEWORKS!! Uses mastering chemistry, usually a 1-1.5 hr homework each week. Study for exams as they can be tricky. She is nice and good to talk to inside as well as outside of class.
Overall a very very good professor. She was also very caring when something came up and I had to miss a quiz. Her lectures are great, not too text heavy slides and explains concepts well. 10/10 professor for sure, sadly cannot take her next semester because of timing issues.
Great chem 101 professor
Dr. Gulde is amazing. I took Che 101 with her the fall semester of my freshman year and I can truly say she is one of the best teachers/professors I've ever had. Some tips for success: take the homework seriously, DO THE PRACTICE EXAMS (they're very similar to the real exams), print her skeleton notes, reach out to her if you need help. Good luck!
She's an okay teacher. You need to do is just practice alot. Tons of practice. There are some things she tends to over complicate, but its not an impossible class. Do the homework, they'll help your grade. watch out for the quizzes and exams, they can mess you up easily. She makes you buy an IClicker sub, it just gives u a participation grade.
CHE 101 is a weed out class but she is a very good teacher and explains things extremely well. Her skeleton outlines are perfect and a lot of practice is provide din order to do well on exams. Homework takes about 1-2 hours to complete each week.
I may be a bit biased as I took AP Chem in high school but I found Dr. Guldes teaching style to be really effective. The notes that you need to write during the lecture are all on her ub learns where you just have to fill in a few words. The quizzes and exams are pretty easy and she uploads practice questions which I recommend you do.
She's a very thorough teacher - great lectures and gives you skeletal guides to follow along. Lots of quizzes and HW but fairly graded.
Dr. Gulde is a very good professor who clearly knows what she is talking about. She throws a lot of information at you but her notes allow you to focus on the lecture rather than copying down notes. The only improvement I would say is sometimes the notes don't have examples of questions you get on quizzes/homework. Otherwise she is awesome.
do i have a C? yes. is chem REALLY hard? yes. but Dr. Gulde made me fall in love with it, she explains everything really well. my only problem was the online format of the exams, wrong #sig figs and you might get 0/4 pts bc there's no partial cred for work. take your time on the mastering chem hmwks it really saved my grade
Chemistry is hard but Dr. Gulde does great explaining topics during lecture. She always stops and asks if anyone has questions. HW can be long but helpful. Exam questions are similar to quizzes and practice exam.
Would not take again. Any practice material isn't like any quiz or exam.
Mediocre at best. Exams were very bad, limited practice material provided. Had to use a lot of outside materials. Organic Chemistry Tutor is a better professor than this. Still easy if you know how to study.
RIdiculously hard class for no reason. Half the class had under 65% at the end of the semester. She does it knowing that 200 kids now have to take the class again over the summer or winter, and have to pay $1600 to retake it.
Dr. Gulde's notes are godly. You will never have skeleton outline type notes ever like hers. You fill in the blanks during lecture which facilitate the learning process. The class was not easy, but that is not Dr. Gulde's fault. Everything you need to know is in the note outlines she provides and not one thing is left out. Explanations are clear!
Professor Gulde is the best chem 101 teacher in my opinion. In her syllabus there is a lot of opportunity to get a decent grade in the course. The exams cover a range of lectures so I would advise to study heavily for them. Her lecture notes are great and the examples are very similar to what will be on the exam. Just stay on top of the schedule.
Dr. Gulde seems like a nice lady but she really didn't do it for me. The exams are nothing like the homework or lecture, the only thing they're similar to is the practice exams. Even then she only gives one practice exam for every exam and it is not enough study material. Her lecture notes are nice to have but most is fluff and not that useful.
She let us send in a question for regrade for every quiz/test. I put my answer in the wrong form even though I got the answer correct or I accidentally capitalized a letter. Every time I sent in a regrade for a question that was correct she refused to give me the points. Why even tell us to send in a regrade if you're just going to say I'm wrong.
Chem is a hard course. Most professors of these weedout classes are awful. Gulde actually cares about teaching, she cares about helping you pass and teaches her material clearly and passionately and it rubs off. You can tell she knows what shes talking about. All her quizzes and tests have practice tests that you can easily study for.
Didn't have a chem background nor did I put in as much work as I should've. The grading system is curved! I have an 85% currently (B+). Extra credit. Homework can be completed in 1-3 hours in one setting. No cheat sheet, exams are in person with lockdown and you need to provide ID. Challenging course but it's bearable
Exams are very straightforward and practice exams are offered (they are VERY similar to real exams). Online quizzes given most Fridays, and you have all day to do them. Some HWs are long but definitely help with understanding the material. Provides lecture outlines and does a lot of practice math problems in class.
Gulde explains well and does a lot of practice questions in class, so it is easy to understand the materials. The exams are similar to the practice tests, so keep on doing them and you will be fine. Try your best with homeworks and quizzes because there are a lot of them. The iclicker points can be easily earned, so go to class and get them.
Explains things clearly and is open to your questions. Notes are fill in and super detailed (use them!). Do a bunch of practice questions and you'll do great! (recitation problems are a great way to study). She's super sweet and don't hesitate to reach out to her, TAs, tutors, etc. for help. There are plenty of resources available. Good luck! :)
Decent professor. She goes through material really fast. Make sure to watch the pre-lecture videos in order to understand anything she talks about in lecture. It's a tough course with a lot of tricky concepts to understand but if you put in the effort you'll pass. Tutoring and crash course videos are your best friend.
She seems very well educated on the subject, but sometimes has difficulty getting to the point. Will learn things that you'll never be tested on. Homework is the best study tool for this course. Practice exam are posted a week in advance of the exam and are incredibly beneficial to doing well on the exams.
Lots of graded material, so don't worry about one bad grade. She goes over lots of example problems in class and will walk around and answer questions, which helps a lot. There are weekly homeworks and (sometimes) quizzes. The homeworks are one of the best ways to study. She posts practice exams that are very similar to the exam.
I have so many amazing things to say about Dr Gulde. Honestly just take her and see for yourself! She gave me a solid foundation in college chemistry. Her explanations are really good and she gives extra credit. You have to put in the work and be willing to learn though. Her fill in notes were the best and she is really helpful during office hours.
Outline notes can be really helpful, but they didn't do it for me personally. Too much to print before each class and hard to keep up with later in the semester (on top of homework). Pretty good teacher. She will stop class if too many people are talking in the big lecture room so beware
Dr. Gulde is one of the best professors I've had at UB. Her lectures are extremely thorough and she's very clear on what will and will not be on exams. She also has lots of assignments and extra credit that can help boost your grade up if you do poorly on the exams. She's also a very sweet woman and is actually helpful during office hours.
She's a good professor. For exams, go over the homework twice to understand the concepts and then study the practice exams because the exams are EXACTLY like the practice exams. I never asked questions but people in my lecture did, and she was very patient and explained problems in a simpler way so that people understand the concept.
Both Gulde and Samanta are amazing. I've only taken Gulde, to say the least she's the most inspiring teacher I've had, very caring, educated and always enthusiastic. She made a hard class seem easy, by providing a lot of opportunity to practice and be prepared for the exam. You will never walk into an exam unprepared if you study.
Dr. Gulde is a pretty good professor, even if she does go fast. Wasn't a huge fan of the mandatory PL videos, but it is what it is. Overall, the course is going to be tough no matter who you take it with.
Explains material clearly, and the practice exams are very similar to the actual exams. Homeworks are weekly and quizzes are every other week and both help a lot to study for tests. Does a lot of in class questions that help to understand material.
After failing AP chem in high school, I was absolutely dreading having to take chemistry again. Dr. Gulde's lectures and notes explained everything perfectly clearly to me, and for the first time, I felt like I actually understood (and somewhat enjoyed surprisingly) chemistry! I wish I could have her for all my science classes.
There is no partial credit given on tests. Some of the topics can be hard to understand because she speaks very fast and doesn't really take the time to make sure her students are understanding the concepts. I do enjoy her outline, I found it as a helpful tool within doing the homework. However, the homework and the test were not similar at all.
Such a genuine and amazing professor. You will definitely pass chem with her as your professor!
There's 1 HW assignment every week or every other week. 6 quizes total that is online and open book. 3 exams not including the final. Make sure to watch the PL videos she give you and pay attention in class and you'll be fine. I'm terrible at chem and she makes it easy to learn.
I had Dr.Gulde for CHE110 which is a supplementary class for CHE101 if you want extra help. I honestly wish I also had her for CHE101 because she was such a great teacher. It's not a super structured class we would kind of go over stuff that we were learning in CHE101 and she would answer any questions/provide support. Great classifyouneedextrahelp
The class was pretty organized and not too difficult to do well in (I already had a basis in chemistry from AP chem), but her teaching style never really appealed to me. She doesn't explain much in-depth and rarely gives partial credit. Tests are very similar to the practice questions, so do those, and study the outlines that she uses.
Dr. Gulde is an amazing proff. She takes the time in her lectures to walk you through the problems on the board. Her teaching methods make it easier to understand. Chemistry is not easy but Dr. Gulde made it bare able. In the class there is weekly hw and there are practice exams so take advantage of them to do well. If you do that you will pass
She is lucky that the class is easy asl, but Gulde herself is just boring and has horrible analogies. I would say take Smita Samanta for this course, but Gulde is okay because the class is a joke.
Went into college with 0 chemistry knowledge and was nervous for CHE 101 and 102. I ended up doing great in both classes and Dr. Gulde was a huge part of that. She has a great interactive teaching style with lecture outlines, so you aren't just sitting and watching. Highly recommend!!!
I took CHE 102 and CHE 101 with Dr.Gulde. She makes very clear outlines that can be used to follow along in class as she does move through lectures at a pretty fast pace. She is extremely welcoming and will break down concepts for you if you attend her office hours.
Im surprised she's allowed to teach college level chemistry. She would mess up her own practice questions in front of her whole class and laugh it off. Her homework questions will say you're wrong because you put in the answer's corresponding unit, EVEN THOUGH THATS WHAT YOU SHOULD DO! Her lectures are very fast. Her videos are hard to listen to.
Very good at explaining the content, very caring & approachable. Extremely helpful if you go to her office hours. Super obvious how much she wanted to help students understand and was good at giving you the tools to figure things out.
Professor Gulde's classes are challenging but rewarding. She explains concepts clearly and provides helpful outlines. Stay on top of the work, and utilize resources like Unstuck AI and office hours - it makes a big difference. Overall, a great professor worth taking.
Her lectures are the best of the che 101 professor.
At first, I was terrified by her fast pacing during lectures and required videos before class. While I still am a bit, I am impressed by how she knows what she is talking about. If you pay attention, go to office hours, and put in a little extra work, you should do alright.
The professor is a great teacher; literally, she is good at teaching! Her tone, in my perspective, really matters. It makes me want to listen to her course. I actually memorize the lessons that she taught. Of course, if others were to listen to her course carefully, the fast talking is not a problem, I even had the recording in 2 times speed.
While she can be boring I have to admit she is a fantastic professor. The class is very structured with plenty of resources. There is a good amount of work but it is definitely very useful. Doing the iclickers, homeworks, skeleton outlines, and recitations should all be more than sufficient to prepare for tests with no extra studying needed.
Her lectures were amazing, and it's obvious she's passionate about chemistry. Gives lecture outlines to fill in which are super helpful. The lowest exam grade gets dropped which is really nice as well. Overall, I'd recommend taking her for 101, talking to friends with other profs, she's by far the best.
Good teacher. Knows what she is saying. Gives homework about once a week. 3 midterms one final. Has 3 extra credit opportunities. Provides outline to follow with her lectures.
This prof runs her class like a prison ward. You will be accused of not attending class. You will be accused of cheating on tests. The behavior of the class as a whole will reflect directly upon individuals. Automates most of the class, driving down the quality and attention received by individual students. Much more interested in finding cheaters
One of the most frustrating classes ive ever taken. Easy subject matter that is made tedious and confusing by half-hearted administrative choices. Maybe the class is too big or she is just lazy, but something needs to change. Class grade averages were laughable, but according to her that's historically in-line with her prior class' norms.
Don't even play about my girl Dr Gulde like that the scores are a reflection of the work you put into prepping for the exam. If the class didn't do well, it's because they relied on few of many resources she provided, not to mention the intensive teaching she does during lectures. This is a great professor and she helped me improve so much.
She is "lagging" during her lectures, pronounces some words specifically longer than others, doesn't give enough time for IClickers, and questions on Exam may be different from lectures. She is all right, but i had better professors at past. If u want to succeed pray several times before exam, it may help.
I really enjoy class with Gulde. She is easily said to be the best chem professor (at least for 101). If you are new to chem take her. The way she does her notes has made studying 10x easier. We do practice problems in class which help too. She breaks things down and makes concepts easy to understand. As for the course, it can be difficult.
Very inconsistent with quizzes. Over does it on the I clickers.
I do not playyyy with my girl. Her lectures are really good and she explains things very very well. She lowkey does do a lot of I-clickers but they're for participation. I would definitely recommend taking her for Chem 101.
She does not play around. Make sure that you play attention and go to office hours or email as soon as you have questions. Exams are fair are well reflected of the material covered in class.
Dr. Gulde is a great lecturer and is honestly underrated. A lot of people dog on her for lowk crashing out in lecture, but it's really only when people are being really loud or disrespectful. She's very kind outside of class and it's clear that she wants you to succeed. The class also has a crazy curve; it's hard to get anything below a B+.
Prof. Gulde is so so nice! Although I suck at chemistry and hate it with every fiber of my being she at least makes it tolerable. She's very easy to reach out too and genuinely wants to see you succeed in her class.
Dr. Gulde is definitely very knowledgeable on the stuff she teaches. I'm not a fan of her guided notes but a lot of the people I know like them. The lectures are pretty dense but between the homework and rewatching lectures you'll learn the material. Pretty solid professor overall.
While this is a hard class, Dr. Gulde makes it easier to learn. She provides skeleton outlines for lecture and presented very well. One this to keep in mind is that she requires a little more work than the others, but its very helpful when learning the material. If grades are important for you, take her chem 101 class.
I found this course to be hard to follow. Dr. Gulde is not a bad professor but I am not a fan of the pre lecture videos and the exams. I only felt like I started understanding the material about halfway through the course. There are a lot of grades for this class so there is a lot of room to do good.
Dr.Gulde was one of the better professors I've had in my time at UB. She was a little fast with her lectures but made sure she gave enough material to make it clear. The exams aren't difficult at all, you just need to study a lot. But overall if you want to take Chemistry, take it with her!
Best chem professor at ub. Her lecture outlines make the lectures so easy to follow and they're so helpful to go back to when studying. There's many practice questions that are done throughout the lecture which helps reinforce what we're learning. Very passionate about chemistry and is so approachable! She explains things so well at office hours.
