Dr. Jackson is a very nice person, although a pretty tough teacher. She offers quiet a few extra credit opportunities to help your grades. My first test I studied my lecture notes and it didn't help me at all. I soon learned that the tests are mainly based off the book. She is very nice and always willing to meet and help you when you need it.
Lecture content does not cover anything on the test, she does a decent job during lecture but bases tests out of the book
Jackson is very nice and a very passionate person, do not get me wrong. But, her teacher is not even well enough to be considered teaching as she only reads off of powerpoints which she models exactly after the book. What makes it worse? The tests are not based on those powerpoints but on specific examples. You do not learn and she is tough grading
Very nice but very tough grader. Tests can be very hard, but study guides follow along with lecture notes which makes it a little easier. Does very poor job at explaining what she wants done as far as class work and papers go. Has very high expectations for only being a 100 level class. Would not recommend taking her.
simply reads off powerpoints, tests on material not covered in class, but are expected to read on your own and remember, never gave us a free day when she wasn't there (always got a guest speaker and then tested us on the material from the guest speaker). Take a different section if at all possible.
Great professor, puts a lot of effort into trying to provide good lectures. New professor, so still learning and figuring things out.
She is pretty nice. Kind of understanding. Goes over lecture really fast, hard to take notes. Show up to class on time or early. NEVER BE LATE OR MISS CLASS.
Dr. Jackson is a great professor! She does grade tough, but she really cares about the subject. She is new, so there is still a learning curve, but she is definitely understanding if you talk to her outside of class. Expect to do a lot of readings, but if you like the subject, they aren't bad to read.
Heavy lectures, tests are more specific than the lecture so reading the book is a must.
Honestly if you actually crack open your textbook and read through the main points and go through the concept checks at the end of each chapter before the exams you'll be fine. She cares a lot and is new so some things may change, but I think she's a solid choice. Study guides/sessions are offered but not that helpful though
As a person seems very nice, however I feel she treated the class as almost high school, complete with unnecessary name tags and group activities. She simply reads off of the power point, whereas I believe if you are going to make attendance mandatory (which it is) a professor should supply more in their lectures than what you can read in the book.
Stacey is an interesting woman. She typically just reads off her power point slides, so theres really no point in going to class. However, she does do random group assignments that do help your grade - but are tedious. Tests are sometimes unclear and the paper that you will have to do is in most peoples opinion unnecessary.
Dr. Jackson is a great professor! This class was very interesting and I learned a lot from her. Try to stay on top of the readings prior to class so you are ready to engage in class discussions. It is an upper level course, so expect to work for the grade you desire!
I can tell she is very into the material she teaches, but she just goes about it in a bad way. There are pop quizzes on readings that are 30+ pages long so you have very little chance of doing well on them. She only lectures the whole class and puts it online so you don't have to show up for class, but you do because attendance counts. Not fun.
lectures way too fast and goes through way too much material at one time. doesn't post the slides till after class to make sure you come to class. there are two papers that are a complete waste of time. very passionate about what she does but doesn't teach the material in a good way. hard to know what to study for tests
just reads off the slides that are made directly from the book. you teach yourself most of the material. Her slides are super compact so don't bother trying to write them down in class. She has SA's grading your work and helping you review for tests. you're only graded on tests and 2 papers so you have to do good right away. reccommend dif prof
She is bad at communicating to the class when she is going to be gone so some class periods are run by an SAA or a different professor in the department. Seems like she has other priorities. When she is in class, the lectures are very boring. Also, there is pointless group work that is very unorganized and annoying to do. Take someone else.
Overall just not a fan of her course. Read straight from powerpoints, the only good thing was that the test material came directly from them.
I like her as a person and I went on the CRP with her and she is super fun and nice, but she doesn't care much about psych100. She is much better in a class she is passionate about like black psychology. you have to go to class, but you can zone out and read the slides after class and be fine. tests come right from her PowerPoint slides
Jackson was straightforward with her students. Handful of group work. The TA had study sessions for every exam. It was a basic-good into class.
Her courses tend to be work-heavy (group projects, multiple papers, films outside of class, pop quizzes), but most of the material on her exams come directly from the PowerPoints. She is a caring person and respects her students. She is passionate about what she teaches and is very knowledgeable. I learned A LOT in her class.
Out of all of my professors, she handled Covid the best. Besides getting people to attend class by having the possibility of pop quizzes, she is so giving to her students. Let us use notecards on our final out of the blue. Her grading is not harsh at all, and her exams are exactly like her guides.
taught us like we all had a PHD in psych. Would say we should ask questions, then act like we were stupid for asking. Doesnt make any sense in her lectures. Does pointless assignments. Too many quizzes and tests. Only allows you to do one of the extra credit things but doesnt say that in the posts. Doesnt respond to emails. Dont take her class.
Its very random id say, some days moving at the speed of sound and others spends too much time on a single subject (KMS). Either way, be ready to read yourself to DEATH. pushes her subject as though everyone is going to be a psych major (PSYCH 100 class even..) so be ready to create a false interest in psych if taking for generals..
She's an ok prof. She reads off her slides mostly, however, I appreciated her real-world applications. There are hardly any grades in the grade book, so taking advantage of every point and doing well on exams is critical. She can be grumpy and sassy sometimes which is distracting. Not the best, not the worst.
Dr. Jackson's lectures don't involve much more than what's written on the screen. I find myself not listening and then taking the notes afterwards because it helped me learn the material better. She also requires textbook readings that have no significance to the exams. If you want to do good on the tests, study the slideshows... that's it.
Strict: no laptops in class, must respond when she says "Good afternoon," requires Respondus, doesn't reply to emails, quizzes @ random with no warning, & only 24 hours to complete. I was really looking forward to this class. I also wanted to sign up for Black Psychology, but she's currently the only one who teaches it.
Paper notes only no laptops or tablets allowed, doesn’t respond to emails at all, random quizzes that you get 24 hours to complete, quizzes and exams require respondus, look forward to a lot of reading out of the textbook. The only things that go into the grade book are quizzes and exams so you have to do good on them.
She is the worst teacher/professor I have had throughout my schooling. She doesn't care about her students. Her lectures are pointless. She doesn't communicate well. She is rude and passive aggressive. If she is your only option just wait until the next semester to take PSYC100.
She was very unclear, canvas is a mess, and she acted like she didnt even want to reach the class. Very disappointed.
Dr. Jackson is very unapproachable, boring, and sometimes rude. She is extremely knowledgeable about the subject, but overall class is super boring and she is very strict on no computers in class. She uses lockdown for tests/quizzes and they are difficult, however other assignments aren't too bad. She isn't a tough grader and the book isn't used.
Abnormal psych with Jackson is just listening to lectures and taking tests every few chapters. Some of her test questions are confusing and there's not many opportunities of smaller assignments to get your grade up. She deflects everything to her student assistants so don't expect any actual help from her. The class was interesting though.
Her pace is beyond ridiculous.
This has been the worst class I have ever taken. I tried SO hard in this class. This is a INTRO to pysch class and I felt like i was applying for my masters or something. The only grades you get are test and quizzes. The quizzes are 10 questions only 5 pts so it makes it very difficult. Professor gives no examples and shows no empathy. Good luck!!!
If you are willing to wait 2-4 weeks for your tests to be graded, this is the class for you!
Professor Jackson expects everyone to have read the text book before class period so that you can participate in her questions and lectures. The SSA's did not give back grades in a timely matter and were very rude to students regarding comments. There were so many pop quizzes and activities in class that it made the class not enjoyable.
Professor Jackson is clearly very knowledgeable about her field, however, she's not warm and can come off as condescending sometimes. She doesn't seem to be thrilled to be teaching a lecture hall full of half-engaged students, which I can't blame her for. Her course is not super hard, and there are plenty of extra credit options.
Dr. Jackson is a great professor and this is a very simple class! There are four exams which mainly cover the lectures she goes over in class. There are "pop quizzes" throughout the semester, but you have a day to complete them so it's really not stressful. 10/10 recommend.
I hated how the class was set up. We had pop quizzes and papers which were worth 5-10 points and tests were worth 50 so what's the point? She was often rude to anyone who had questions and refused to repeat herself. Tests were on a lockdown browser so why not just have them in class? She goes very fast and doesn't allow technology.
Assigns lots of reading that she's just going to go over in the next class period through a slideshow. No homework to get extra points on, so you have to hope you do well on 5-point pop quizzes and the exams (plus a FEW extra things like research participation and an article analysis).
All her lectures consisted of was her reading off slides at 100 MPH. Her tests were very hard because they keyed in on information that she didn't focus on. Truly study everything on the slides.
All she does is read off her slides in class. Usually answers questions by going around in circles and saying other people who could answer it for you. Her exams are examples and situations and she never goes over those things in class. Avoid this class or professor overall.
she reads directly off of slides, passive aggressive, forces you to say good afternoon, takes forever to put grades in, isn't friendly, acts like she doesn't enjoy teaching, difficult to approach, rude in general, strictly no technology. not a comprehensive class, literally only exams & quizzes. incredibly boring & long. she's a know it all.
all she does is talk in circles & doesn't add anything to the slides. not a lot of point opportunities. if attendance wasn't mandatory, I would not go to this class. she doesn't teach, she just reads off of her slides. she's very condescending
She has a clear no technology rule, which is okay, but frustrating if she zooms through the slides. She can come off pretty condescending as well when you ask questions. The exams do not cover whether you understand the content, they test you to see if you remember a random fact from the textbook oftentimes. The course was okay, but hard to enjoy.
In this course, you have a 6-page essay on a research article of your choice. You will be given no instruction on how to write your paper. Expectation unclear. Professor requires you to say Goodmorning every class. Reads straight off slides. If attendance was not required, you could easily teach yourself what she teaches.
Points only come from exams and random pop quizzes. She treats 100 like its 400 level & all of her slide material is straight out the book which she expects you to read every chapter word for word that she assigns. Only allowed 4 points of extra credit out of all the options and she takes an extremely long time to put in grades.
there are very few points given in this class. if you do poorly on an exam it is extremely hard to get your grade up. she takes forever to grade. expects you to read the book and goes really fast through her slides.
Expected to read textbook before coming to class, then she reads directly off the slides which are word for word from the book. Random pop quizzes and ungraded group projects in class. Spends all class saying "If you would've read the book you would know this already." All assignments graded by the SAA's so no genuine feedback.
Uses lockdown browser for quizzes/exams. Snotty attitude and acts like she hates teaching and it's an inconvenience for her to be there. Extremely condescending and refuses to answer questions in class. Can't tell if she's a know-it-all and thinks she's better than us or genuinely just doesn't know what she's talking about.
Worst professor I have ever had hands down. Random pop quizzes that are left open for 24 hours, with mostly fill in the blank open ended questions with a time limit, on respondus. Only allowed 4 points of extra credit, so don't bother doing more than one of the extra cred assignments she posts. She expects you to have read the entire textbook.
She excepts that you understand the chapters before you come to class (about 40ish pages of textbook reading before every or every other class period). Has quizzes before every test. Have to use lockdown browser for EVERYTHING, even the 5 point quizzes.
Professor is alittle stingy. Lectures provide information but are textbook-reliant. There is a lot to take in. Pop quizzes before exams. Those quizzes matter. They were my enemy. All quizzes and exams are on a lockdown screen you install and record your live test-taking. Few group projects. Some ex. credits. Study LOTS! Professor speaks fast btw.
Professor Jackson has an expectation for everyone in class. Her syllabus in the beginning of the semester gives a good guideline for what to expect: test dates, assignment due dates, etc. Take up studying opportunities that are offered. The reviews will guide you to what will be on the test.
Didn't give me any of the extra credit I did, always had an attitude, and seemed too good for everyone. Also never replies to emails.
100+ pgs of reading per week, will ask open ended questions and then take off points if you don't include everything she wants but she never asked for explicit things. cancels class or have online but you arent to miss class. Her exams ask extremely in depth questions about the reading with things not discussed in class exams on lock down browser.
Professor Jackson was a strict professor with high expectations for participation. Attendance is mandatory, she expects a lot of questions and wants a responsive classroom. This wouldn't be an issue if she wasn't condescending when answering any questions that were asked. Otherwise, she is a well-organized professor. Rubrics are structured clearly
Very few assignments(all online), lectures canceled at least 6 times since the semester started, only slideshow lectures, 50-100 page readings weekly, showed up 5-10 mins late at least 5 classes, TAs grade everything with no teacher help. Very poor communication and changes dates often. She is very smart & loves psych, but severely lacks effort.
Jackson expects you to read every word in the textbook. She also goes through slides in class on the material covered in the textbook but skips and tells us to go back and teach ourselves the slides.she gives us group work at the end of classes leaving us no time to work in class with the students because the work is due beginning of the next class.
Jackson is awful to have as a professor. She was late for class (around 10 minutes) almost every class, she assigns insane amounts of reading that no one ever actually gets around to doing because it's so overwhelming, and she tells us to just 'teach ourselves' concepts that she doesn't feel like talking about or she showed up too late to include.
She is awful always late lots of work doesn't care about students well being just overall a terrible professor.
She only teaches from slides. All she assigns is quizzes and test.
She shows little respect for the class and the students in general. Was late to every class and is very against having technology out in her class. She also gives out very little instructions for assignments and then gets mad when students have questions.
Every class period was her Lecturing a large amount of super specific information that you are supposed to remember for the tests. This class has literally like only 2 assignments which is nice but they are worth very little points so your grade is based off of all the Exams. If you do bad on the exams you will not pass this course. Always Late.
Dr. Jackson is a very knowledgeable professor! She was fun and seemed to care about her students. However, her classes are not very friendly for entry-level as she moves quickly and expects you to read the entire textbook. Lectures are not so much for learning as they are just book reviews. If you are not a psych lover, choose a different prof. :)
Pop quizzes were the worst part of this course, I found them disrespectful of our time. Had the quizzes not been included I would have rated much higher. Material is important and well-rounded, however. Tons of reading (many hours/week). This was my heaviest class workload. If you don't care about the material, don't take this course.
Prof is intelligent and passionate. LOTS of reading but it's very interesting to learn about. You have to put time and effort into this class to do good. Study guides are very similar to exams.
Dr Jackson is THE WORST. Shows up to class late all the time. She expects you read the assigned chapter prior to class, but the entire class it just reading off slides about the chapter you read. But she goes too fast for you to actually take notes on that, so you do have to read prior to class. Rude and impossible to get an email back from.
Seems super uninterested in being a professor and teaching in general.
She is knowledgeable about what she is talking about, but she speaks to us students like it's common knowledge. She often shows up late. You will have to read the chapters prior to class. If you have trouble understanding professors who speak and work fast, I would not recommend taking her courses. Really hard tests!
Dr. Jackson is knowledgeable and holds students to high standards. I can see where her class would be difficult for people who are looking for classes that have a high school feel to them. But if you are willing to work hard and be challenged, her classes are worth it. If you want to learn, take Dr. Jackson. If you want to be babied, avoid her.
Dr.Jackson is an amazing professor. There is a lot of reading, and the tests are pretty difficult, however, the lectures were all very informative and interesting. This is a fairly difficult course, but it is worth it if you are willing to challenge yourself a bit.
SHE WAS SO RUDE. She just read off the slides and wouldn't allow us to take a lot of notes. You learn more from the book then her.
She is very knowledge in what she is teaching us, but if you struggle paying attention in class during lectures this might not be a class for you. She reads off of the slides and half of the lecture is her playing videos, it is difficult not to get bored. The exams are online through lockdown, and they are worded very weirdly.
Dr. Jackson demands respect from students but gives zero in return. There were multiple times I never got a reply to an email. When a TA was giving a lecture, Jackson cut her off and asked her to skip to the end. During this same lecture, Jackson was on her phone - something she has no tolerance for if a student were doing the same. 0/10 awful
She wasn't the worst professor I've had. Her tests were very easy if you pay attention but her lectures are only reading off of slides and the DSM5. Her SAAs do all the work for her so don't expect her to answer any emails. As long as you pay attention and read the book you will be fine.
DO NOT take any class with her. By far the most unorganized, excuse laden teacher I have ever had. Canvas was a trainwreck (wrong due dates, class material "locked" and unavailable, test questions riddled with typos or in many cases just improper English, so very hard to understand what she is even asking). Complete joke, should not be teaching
Taking her class was horrible, she does not allow technology to take notes or for any reason. If you can take a different class to get a psych credit do it. Under no circumstances would I ever take another class taught by her ever again. If you do ever find yourself in the extremely unfortunate situation of having her for a professor, good luck.
worst teacher iv ever had, a lot of her tests include things that werent ever talked about in her lectures. its basically how u do on ur exams that determine ur entire grade. also, she doesnt even give you enough time to take notes, she skips slides very fast and tells you (its on canvas)
DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH HER. She should not be allowed to be an educator. She thinks because she's a professor everyone needs to respect her but she gives no respect to ANYONE. Also so rude to her SA's
rude dont take
Dr.Jackson is very knowledgeable about psychology, but is bad at teaching it. She goes so fast through the slides, you can hardly get any of the information, and if you don't you're screwed. She demands respect, but gives none in return. 5 mins late to every class, rude to the TAs. Don't take her class. Take anybody else.
Do not take this class with Dr. Jackson. She enforces attendance and 'participation points' in a lecture hall. It was very test and paper heavy and almost all of the points come from the exams. She barely does any of the grading herself. The SAAs were doing almost all of it, but they were very nice. Take this with anyone else.
I don't understand why she is rated so low on rate my professor. There is a lot of reading but you can get away from just studying the slides. She was never late to class, she was funny and clearly knowledgable. If you are lazy and don't study then yes, this class is going to be hard for you. If you study and put in effort you will be fine!
