She might be boring with her long pointless stories, but all the material on the test is on the PowerPoint.
She needs to be replaced. Her test are ridiculous and half of the stuff on the tests are not in the notes she says to study. She is not very willing to help out and spends more time talking about her pride and joy son than she talks about biology!
If you want to study Bio 60 hours a week take this class. Lectures are cluttered and provide little information that is on exam. Exams are not that relative to the information that is being taught or info. from the powerpoints. Questions are not completely clear and can be confusing. Studying and attending class does not correlate with exam grades.
Not impressed with her teaching methods. As a professional, her goal should be for her students to learn..not to FAIL. She is "happy" with an average of 63 on 1st test grade. She should look in the mirror and ask "Why are the majority of my students failing?". Most of these kids are bright kids wanting to further their education after a 4 yr. degr
Dr. Wild does not care about her students or if you pass or fail. In class she only reads over the power points that are available online. There are no study guides and says to read her notes and not the book but her test have information that is in not covered in her notes. Do not take this teacher!!
She only reads her powerpoints, and expects everyone to know the entire book prior to attending her class.
She seems like a real nice lady, but I agree with what everyone else said. If you have NOTHING else going on in your life and can sit around all day and study biology, then this is the class for you!
Her tests are not even close to relevant to what she is teaching. Powerpoints are useless
I don't want to boast, but I feel like i'm a pretty smart student. Now, after taking her class, I feel as if i've learned nothing and gained nothing from it. Her tests are ridiculous and she really doesn;t care about anyone. She remains the same as she was the first day of class.
tests make no sense. she asks questions in a manner that no one can even understand what she's even asking. she seems to not really care about her students grades...and the only way to do good is to do nothing but study biology for the entire semester
Tests are nearly impossible to do well on and the class average has been in the 60s each time. She doesn't care about students' grades and gives little information other than her power points. She also offers very little extrax credit.
This class is a waste. Don't take it with her. The class average on the first test was a 60, and she was happy about it and said it's what she expected. Uhh.. 60 is failing sweetheart. If I could curse on here I would. Get another teacher.
I believe are meant to hurt students not help them, and her tests are worded so terrible that when she goes over them you want to pull your hair out. These people here aren't just ranting, she really is a terrible instructor, and her class will make you want to switch your major.
She really doesn't care about the students, if you ever email her about a question or anything she will just repeat the answer back to you and not explain it. She words her tests badly and sometimes with the wrong answers. Don't take this teacher if you can help it.
Professor Wild has a good personality and is funny in a dorky way...but her test are extremely hard, her test are all multiple choice but she makes it to where the answers are similar. Do not take her!
do NOT take her. she is really really hard, and her tests are even harder. i was majoring in biology but thanks to her. not any more. run fast.. take another professor FOR SURE if you can. very short if you try to email her and doesnt explain..this is her first year here and should be her last.
Dr. Wild, is a knowledgabe person but does not teach well. Her tests have words you never hear and stuff you never hear in class on them. She spends half the semester talking bout her 12 year old olympian son! Her tests are HORRIBLY hard! This class alone made me consider dropping out of college! but I realized it cant get any worse. DONT TAKE!!!!!
DO NOT TAKE THIS INSTRUCTOR! She would rather talk bout her son the whole 55 minutes than biology, and if she did talk about biology you would not understand what is going on. She says that the test is just over the power points, but its has stuff out of the book too. This instructor needs to go somewhere else because she is not helpful at all.
She is an alright professor, and I would rather have her any day over a one who can't communicate in English. If you are used to studying the text so that you can understand the powerpoints she uses it is fine. Remember these are just a tool to help you study, and she says the concepts covered in class are on the test, but it's your job to learn..
If you enjoy talking about your professors ovaries, and husbands gonads then you will enjoy this class! Also, every example she uses in her lecture deals with her 12 year old "david beckham". The class is very hard... tests are extremely difficult and you cant pass without lots and lots of studying!
Wild-Biology(Hadenoughofthis HCl) Common Side Effects: Drowsyness, Hair Loss, Headaches, Retinal Bleeding, decrease of IQ, Insomnia, Hypochondria, and Agoraphobia. You know this is extreme but so is her idea that the average grade of the class should be a 60. She should not have to bear the cross of weeding out the Biology majors. ETSU, God help us
DO NOT TAKE!!!!!!!!!!
horrible. worst teacher i have ever had. she spends the entire class talking about her family. i pay to learn biology, not about my teachers kids. tests are very hard and i have never studied so much in my life. her tests have words ive never heard and never read in the book. run the other way! DO NOT TAKE! HORRIBLE!
MS. WILD SUCKS..THAT IS ALL I HAVE TO SAY..
do not take this professor. She might be the worst one in the history of ETSU professors. If you enjoy failing school go right ahead but if not i would advise you not to take her...ps if you enjoy learning about sex instead of biology then this is definitely the class for you! Best advice I can give to you: STEER CLEAR OF WILD!!!
Apart from being completely irrelevant, I don't see how comparing a cell to a corporation on our final exam has anything to do with biology. >:(
Horrible teacher, didn't seem to know much about the subject matter. All she does is read off the slides given to her by the textbook company. Not an extremely difficult class, all you have to do is memorize the slides and you will do ok. But you wont learn a thing, just regurgitate. Too bad she is unavoidable or I would say dont take her
Class was extremely difficult. Gave random examples and expected us to remember. Very friendly but has very tough tests. Would never take again. A little unprofessional. Don't take unless you have to.
worst teacher i ever had... i love biology and was planning on majoring it until i had this lady... seriously dont take her.. wait till the next semester if shes the only one you can take this semester...
I got an A in Dr. Wild's class, so it appears I'm in the minority. I knew quite a bit of the material before taking the course, though. Dr. Wild mainly read from PowerPoints and talked about her personal life. She was friendly enough, but did put off answering a lot of questions. Her tests rarely matched what she told us would be covered in class.
When there are only a couple positive post about this teacher, it should give you a hint. She's terrible. Avoid if possible
ETSU needs to send her back where she came from. Here test were way too in depth and harder than they needed to be. Pop quizzes every week and very random. AVOID her at all cost!
I was actually really excited going into the beginning of the semester; new professor who seemed very nice and willing to help. I ended the semester sobbing because no matter how hard I tried to study, it never seemed like enough. Tests were virtually impossible unless you memorized the online materials and she wasn't willing to clarify anything.
worst teacher i've ever had. asked if i was going to be in her Bio 1020 class && i laughed in her face. talked too much about her "super star" children and not enough about the material for her tests. had to memorize everything in order to pass. very frustrating for a Bio I class. Ended up changing my majors due to her.
Very helpful, and really wants students to succeed. I had to study everyday for this class. Reading ahead helps as tedious as it seems. I made study guides to remember things because there is way too much material covered in this class to remember all of it. Goes through powerpoints like wildfire, maybe that's where she got her name from...
I also am in the majority making an A in this class. I would have to say study study study to pass this class. She started out nice and then went crazy where we had to know everything, but at the end was a little more helpful and the test "seemed" easier. If forced to take it make sure you don't just memorize but understand the concepts. Goodluc
DO NOT TAKE!!!! WORST TEACHER EVER...she was unhelpful and couldnt care less about the students....her test were extremely hard and difficult...all she talked about were her kids...THEY NEED TO FIRE HER ASAP!!!
LISTEN VERY CAREFULLY. DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE HER. I read these same posts when i registered for her class but ignored them. DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE!!!! I think 95% of the class would agree that she should b fired
I beg you to listen to me. This is the worst professor to ever step foot on ETSU's campus. I am not trying to brag, but I do very well in school because I study daily. However, this garbage of a teacher's tests have absolutely nothing to do with what she teaches.
During the final, I really wanted to ask her what anything on there had to do with what we learned in the class. If I had wanted to learn about metaphors, I would have taken an English class.
Her tests are very unclear and very difficult. She flies through the notes and her tests have some questions from the notes and some from her @#$. I do not know where she gets them from. Do not take this class if you can help it.
VERY VERY BAD TEACHER!!!! HER TEST ARE REALLY HARD.
How many of us have to fail this class with her before ETSU decides to get rid of her?
Makes it impossible for students to succedd. Worst teacher ever. Will have to retake class.
Teaching is confusing. I spent many hours studying but her questions had nothing to do with the material we studied. Worst teaching I have ever heard. She reads off of the power point lectures. No matter how hard you work, her tests are meant to fail students. Complete wasted of time to learn from this teacher.
COMPLETELY CONFUSING - SHE GETS PLEASURE OUR OF TORTURING STUDENTS
I stopped going to class half way through the semester because it was impossible to get my grade up, and i am a bio major! I will be waiting until they have another teacher teaching this class before I take it again, needless to say, I most likely am changing majors because of her
Dr. Wild is not the worst teacher ever. This is not an intro class so you should expect the tests and lectures to not be easy. Its not high school anymore so grow up and study. all you have to do is study EVERYTHING on her powerpoints and its not hard to do well. She is also very easy to get in touch with and will help you if you need it.
Impossible. I have been waiting to retake this class, but she's the only one teaching it so far, so it looks like it'll be a while. By the way, those two positive comments on 4/9 must be her, because no matter how hard you study it is very difficult. And it is an intro class, its Biology 1
NEVER TAKE WILD! Expectations of students very unclear! Very difficult. Be prepared to teach yourself. But please listen to me... DO NOT TAKE HER!
I'm a fairly good student, but i've never done as badly in a class as i did in her bio class. She goes through her powerpoint so quickly that it's useless to try to take notes. Her tests are impossible unless you study the 12-16 hrs a week she suggests. Who the hell has that much time as a college student? We do have OTHER classes besides Bio.
Dr. Wild, don't doctors try to help people out and teach??? It's the total opposite with this "DOCTOR" Tests are impossible and she is totally unfair. I don't know how they still let her teach classes because so many people have to retake. ABO****ELY RIDICULOUS!!!!!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!
Let me tell you something. Do not take this woman. Maybe it will put her out of a job. Her test are difficult and has nothing to do with her lectures. If enough of us don't take her classes, she'll be out of a job. I am student who had a 3.9 GPA until taking her. All my other classes 12 hours of them were A's. Two of those science!! Ridiculous
I have to tell you how ridiculous these comments are. I am no genius, but managed the easiest A of my life. Read the book, and as far as the below comment, they are either biologically retarded, or lying. Wild is a sweet heart, and will help you. No lies, you will know bio when you leave. These other people are the haters.
I am neither "biologically retarded, or lying" and barely made it out with a B+. If you have any questions about the class, ask someone besides Wild, because she often ended up answering my questions with her own questions. This may have changed since I had her, but supposedly there would be no pop-quizzes, but all but two of six were pulled on us.
If you worked you tail of and only made a B+ than you are not meant for a career in anything biologically related. Please God realize that, because if you think you can cut it in medical school or a PhD in any science field your lying to yourself. If Wilds class was too hard, than you simply need to rethink your options.
I took this instructor last Fall, made a B+. This is my only B+ in 2yrs of school. This class requires a lot of studying and using other resources. The reason I did not get an A is because I made a D on the first test but managed to ACE every test after. Test are challenging, and I would not recommend Wild unless you are willing to work/study hard.
Dr. Wild wasn't really as hard as people make her out to be. Yes, you have to work but she could have been way more difficult. A lot of the stuff that she requires you to know will greatly benefit you in later courses like biochem. I recommend taking her class. For all of those people complaining, it's a weed out course, it's meant to be hard.
I think she's pretty straight forward. She tests whats on the powerpoint and as long as you read all of the chapters you can make an A. She makes her own questions so if you go to class it makes it a lot easier. People that fail don't show up to class.
While she is not the greatest teacher ever I think she has great lecture notes and is able to answer most questions I had. The lab was more challenging than her tests considering she used scantrons and the labs were essay. Pay attention to her lectures because she makes up her own questions. If you're looking for an easy class this is not it.
She's a good teacher. If you don't feel like putting effort into keeping up at least weekly then you shouldn't be in biology in the first place. Her tests are easy if you know the material backwords and forwards. She's not always in her office during her office hours. If you want and A and don't care to work for it then take her class.
Dr. Wild isnt really that bad. Sometimes she get to fast while doing her powerpoints, but my only advice is to take notes and do a lot of practice tests.
ETSU really needs to re-evaluate their choice of teachers! Dr. Wild is extremely hard! she sets her students up to fail, she said so in class, "the material is far to easy, I have to complicate it for you all on the test!" Oh and she doesn't dress properly, comes to class in mini skirts and VERY low cut shirts!
Dr. Wild is not a bad teacher but if you want an A you will have to work your but off for it and actually read the chapters.
Power point lecturer, never once had a test question that wasn't in the slides. I never even bought the book and I had a 96 test average. Just know all of the bold or red terms in her lecture slides and you'll be fine. Think outside the box, try to apply everything to a real situation (that's how she tests) and you will undoubtedly make an A.
This class if definitely NOT an easy A!!! Attendance is not mandatory, so it is very easy to skip class, but if you do then you miss her powerpoints because she doesn't post them on D2L. As long as you show up for class, take notes, and pay attention to what she focuses on then you should do ok. Her tests are pretty hard, but not impossible.
AWFUL TEACHER!! Tests are impossible, what she goes over in class is not what's on the tests. She cares more about herself than her students. She is not helpful at all!! She belittles her students!! I DO NOT RECOMMEND HER!!! She is a TERRIBLE TEACHER!!!!
Not a very good teacher at all. She claims that the test questions are straight from the power point slides but the definitely were not. I knew every power point slide like the back of my hand but still could not answer all the questions. All the test questions are definitely not from the slides!
The worst teacher I have ever had. Her tests are NOTHING like what she covers in class. Her tests averages are always under 65 which should tell you something. She is evil!
I do not recommend Wild. I've somehow managed to school above average on all her but I'm still making a C. Only 1 of the 4 test we took had a class average above 70%. The rest ranged in the 60%. Her test format are always the same. Always comparing biology to companies and such. Not a good teacher...She should be reevaulated. I give her a 2/10
I took AP bio in HS luckly. If i had not, i would really have struggled. I got an A but their were a few things that bothered me. 1. She will laugh at the class for not knowing a powerpoint ? she askes, and then will not give us the answer but expects us to know somehow... 2. IT TAKES HER 2 WEEKS TO GRADE SCANTRON TESTS...IT PISSED ME OFF....
Terrible Teacher. Her exam questions are unclear, her teaching is reading a powerpoint she didnt even create herself, and she has no remorse for students. The only thing I got out of this class was from the labs. All I want for Xmas is a new Bio teacher
Her tests suck. I got an A in human anatomy, with a teacher from Japan, and got low B's and C's on her tests. For example, the last test is on Genetics, Ch 15-19, but there were questions about Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration on the test. Study really hard, know the MATERIAL, not her notes, inside and out and you should do ok. Also, Do all
Used clicker in class for questions/review, but never told the right answer, would just laugh. Definitely did not help any. Her tests are hard. Definitely set aside time to study for her class if you plan to take her. Read directly from powerpoints, so it was very east to go to sleep in class.
Wild is the worst instructor I've had at this university. I'd rate my prior understanding of biology as "high" (there's no way to test out of these classes...), and in my opinion Wild lacks a basic understanding of what science is, and what it is not. I assume her PhD was mail-order. I'd say "avoid", but nobody else teaches intro-level bio here.
On the first day of class, she didn't show up. We were told she had an emergency and wasn't on campus. Several minutes later I went to her office to find her sitting behind her desk. On a normal day, the class still would have been in session. So her first impression to me has been that showing up for class means nothing to her. Fire her, ETSU.
If you study the powerpoints and read the book, then you should do fine on tests. I got an A, but I studied about an hour for each chapter we covered. Keep up with the material and you will do fine.
Worst teacher EVER.
Good professor if you're an M.D. If not, and you're a regular undergrad, hang on to the seat of your pants & pray your other classes have no work. I took this class for Bio Majors, as I planned to take the Biology route. -I'm now an Eng Major. It's okay though, I'm writing short stories now, & I have a character based on her. Revenge is sweet.
Useless. You have to teach yourself the material. She's vague, but she does offer a little extra credit.
No one is more mean that her. If you have a chance of not taking her class, please take it.Btw,the tests are very difficult and does not follow her lecture.
She explains things very well in class and tries to make everything simple. then when you get to the exam, its much more difficult. She uses words that she never used in lecture and puts things on there that she never mentioned in class. Expect to put lots of study time into this class!
I just do not think she is a good teacher.
Dr Wild causes you to think, something you will need in the outside world. I found her class moderately easy because I've had 20+ years of being in the world and having to figure out answers to problems on my own. If you want to be a success, and think instead of spit up answers you will never remember, take Dr. Wild.
Ive had 10+ and I wouldnt call it easy. The process is recall, not regurgitate, expect., ejac., defe., or any other disgusting physiological term. Recalling on a test means I have retained course content and helps me in long-term retention. She is a good lecturer, but can be hard b/c question format is so foreign. takes getting used to.
I had a B in this class, and it was what you would imagine surviving the front lines of the Vietnam war to be like. When grades came I was like how in the hell did I survive. Tests were worded in an extremely confusing manner. All I can say is pay attention in lectures, read the crap out of the book, and use the online materials that she suggests.
Ok, so i took her for both Bio 1&2..She is Very hard & you have to study ALOT. Her test ?'s are confusing. i suggest you read the chapters yourself, take notes or listen carefully if you go to class, & use the online resources(raven-biology) & youll proly end up ok. I managed an A in Bio1, but then a C in Bio 2(partly my own fault tho).u must read!
If you have a high IQ, you will do great. If you have an average IQ you will get a D to C range. Simply put, answering 50 convoluted questions in 50 min. is only for 'gifted' people. Being 'gifted' has little to do with how well you can apply info. in the real world as people suggest. Average people who work hard are more functional hands down!
Let me start by saying she is AWFUL. I took her for both bio1 and bio2. i had a b and an a-. i did study, came to class every day, read chapters, and had a 95-98 in my lab. as a pre-med student i can tell you she is HORRIBLE. she does NOT care about students. she is so RUDE and the test are not like her class. im not sure why she teaches. HEARTLESS
Class would be a breeze if she tested on what she lectured...or perhaps on the textbook. incredibly irrelevant and strange exams. BTW she is the only teacher and she runs the dept. good luck
Good Luck. You'll need it.
She is terrible. I'm perfectly ok with having to "think" to answer test questions, but it's hard to think about the questions when she never covers the material. She teaches on one thing, and puts other things on the test. Reading the book is the most help you can get and even then, I don't know where some of her ?'s came from even after reading.
Also, you MUST take tests using an electronic device which costs about $50. This also tracks your attendance. This, in and of itself, is awkward, unreliable, and makes test taking TAKE LONGER. The way she tests is not only assinine but unfair. You're either on her level or you're not. And if you're not, you're failing. She's a load.
The average for our combines exams was 57%. If only 5-10 out of 200 students are fully grasping the material, not only are the rest of us failing, she is continually failing as an educator. Her questions are unclear and asking questions during the exams is impractical and improbable. She's hypercritical and callous to say the least. Wild: F-
She is knowledgable in the subject but has no clue how to make it understandable for the class. She attempts to be funny... but isn't at all. Her class is pointless to attend because she only uses our "clickers" to assess our understanding of the material but never tells us if our answers are correct or gives us help if most of the class is wrong..
Biology, I loved it. Now after taking Biology with Dr. Wild I feel as if it's one of the most horrible subjects known to mankind. I honestly felt like I had a better understanding of Biology before taking the course. With the way she words her test questions.. it'll make you hate yourself.. just saying.
WORST TEACHER EVER DO NOT TAKE HER EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Biology or any other sciences are hard to understand. Biology is a complex subject. To understand her lectures you have to read chapter or D2L notes before her class and that's what she suggests. If you read it is easy to understand. She does not want you to memorize her tests are mainly application based/practical.
She really is pretty nice for the most part. She's difficult, but not impossible. I struggles throughout the course and ended up with an A. She does make you think, but often in ways people may not be used to. I have mixed feelings about her, especially how she consistently screws up with grading since it's all done electronically.
She gives me mixed emotions. Her class was very hard and she made us think. Tests weren't from memory but using application. She makes me lose my love for science but I will say I did learn alot from having to read the book over and over again for tests.
Wild is not half as bad as everyone says. She expects a lot out of her students, but if you're in her class that shouldn't be a problem considering it is a class for science majors. In this class always attend (even though it's not mandatory) and study for the exams. If you don't know how REALLY to study, learn! it will be much needed for her class
Attendance IS mandatory and tracked electronically. She's on academic probation for failing so many students. Class average for EXAMS fall 2010 was below 60% for every exam. She teachs over 600 students a semester and does not have time to help, does not text from the book or from lecture notes. Good luck.
Solid Prof, available to answer questions. But if you don't go to class you will fail, as you should! Don't take your lack of discipline getting to class out of the instructor...please grow up kiddies!
Nightmare. There's time to memorize material, but she never applies it. However, she tests by application not memorization ex: take ETSU's campus and translate the setting into how a cell functions. Confusing? If she simply asked how a cell functions, students would do better. Slides aren't heavily covered on test. Know big picture not definitions.
Grow up, kiddies? I am an adult and I attended every class and also hold a 3.73 GPA and studied every evening. The questions on the exams are not worded clearly, nor are the same or similar as those used in class. The setting for the exam is cramped and stressed, no time or ease of access for questions regarding questions. She continues to fail.
Absolutely HORRIBLE. I took her for Bio 1 for science majors and hardly learned anything from the class because she gave so much information, half of which wasn't relevant or on the tests. She herself isn't a bad person, just a BAD teacher. I've always been good in science and agree that it should be challenging but not impossible. Terrible.
I had Dr. Wild for Bio 1 and 2 for majors. Although it was a challenging class, it's not impossible. If you go to class, take notes, pay attention and keep up, you'll be fine. Her tests are tough, but she gets a bad reputation because people don't put the work into the class that it requires. It's up to you the grade you make.
I love biology...came to class every single day...studied A TON....did horrible. She is extremely inconsiderate and not personable. Not teacher material. Just my opinion.
She is a very tough teacher! She seemed nice at first, she fooled me! I studied hard for her first exam, was in class every class day & done the neccessary readings & barely passed the first exam. I dropped out of her class, as did many others. The horror stories are TRUE!
If you want to get an A, you'll need to go WELL above and beyond the recommended actions below. Attendance, studying, and attention will grant you a C. Average exam grades in her classes are failing, so to achieve an A and maintain a high GPA you will need to make this class the highest priority ever. Tests are unclear still and she's overworked.
You think she's not that hard of a teacher, untill you take her first test and see what you made on it. She really wasn't that bad though, actually a bit helpful on tests if you approach her, not many people will be willing to do that, because we all think she's inherently evil. Make sure to write down EVERYTHING from lecture and read the chapters!
She gives EXTRA CREDIT now...If you can't make an A in there it is YOUR FAULT
Dr.Wild gets a bad rep because she always gets stuck with the dumb people who dream of being health majors but don't want to do the work. If you pay attention in class and open the expensive book you pay for you will be fine. few curve balls on the tests but nothing thats not manageable.
the first exam i studied, read everything, and took notes, and i still made a D. her lectures seem totally different than whats on the test. I understood everything in lecture, and then the tests blew my mind.
Analogies is what her tests are like if your good at figuring out the puzzle and know in depth your info. then you will be riddled with a half descent grade.Once u get into the lab and are learning that some of the things she taught you were wrong basically take the book and read it everyday and learn what you can. i was highly disappointed
Dr. Wild is a great teacher. All she really wants is for her students to truly understand the material. Yes, her tests are challenging, this is due in large part to the fact that the subject matter is challenging. If you go to class, take good notes and keep up with the reading, you should do fine. Good luck!
This class is interesting, but super hard. You actually have to know what she is talking about or you will fail the course. The test are totally different then what she says. she makes it to hard for a 1000 level class. If you can, take someone else.
Dr. wild is the worse teacher at etsu. she says one thing and does another. her test dont follow what she teaches. and the lab is not even helpful.
Don't take her, go to community college and take your credit. Her tests are literally analogies that are difficult to interpret. Don't be a fool and think you can do better than everyone else who says avoid her, listen to us.
Worst Teacher Ever. Her tests are no joke puzzles. If you think you know the material then think again because you will not be given the questions in any form that you may have learned them. Prime example. If you learn the parts of a cell she will ask them in corrilation to the school ex. if ETSU is a cell who's the energy maker?...WHO KNOWS THAT
You have to know everything. Even if you know everything you can miss questions because her questions are useless analogies. If you are looking for an easy A DO NOT TAKE THIS. Also to clear up some common misconceptions Dr. Wild is very helpful during office hours and is not mean, but her tests are. I got an A, but would not recommend the class.
On the first day of class she actually told us that she was not here to teach us biology, but to discuss it. This is a freshman level class of bio for majors last I checked teacher should teacher. Not helpful at all when I asked for help and actually laughed at one of my test grades when she graded it. I studied all the time and still failed!
For you that keep stating that her analogies are incomprehensible, you obviously did not know the material in the 1rst place, how can you not GET the comparison of Mitochondria to ETSU's Power Plant? To the others that state that you changed your major because of her, then you ARE quitters. No one quits a career goal just because of one class.
I'm currently in this class, and absolutely hate it. I love biology and know quite a bit about it, but she is just a crappy teacher. She is unforgiving and useless for help. I'm in ROTC and was injured during PT. I came in 15min late for class when we had an assignment due, she didn't take it because I was late. She's merciless.
I dad Dr. Wild for bio 1, and 2 and loved her. She was super helpful if you went to her office for help. She was a great lecturer and very knowledgeable. If you cannot pass this class, don't be a biology major. The tests make you think; they are not high school regurgitation tests. She made me a better student by preparing me for upper level work
Wild isn't a terrible person or anything but I do believe she is setting us up to fail. I mean I understand you want us to apply things but how can you learn that effectively if you've never had to do it before. Maybe high schools should change there curriculum. Very hard class though.
I love Dr. Wild! If you love biology and you really want to learn and go to medical school she is the perfect teacher! Ppl who give her poor ratings are mad because they want to halfa** their way through college. She does a fantastic job weeding ppl out. Who wants a Doctor who crapped their way through college and knows nothing??
I took bio at another school and changed my major. Came here took bio again and loved it again thanks to Dr. Wild! She is very tough, but her tests are certainly NOT impossible! If you are serious about med school TAKE her. All negatives comments are from lazy ppl who want regurgitated boring high school tests. Ignore them.
Not a great teacher. She wastes half of her lecture time on useless information then expects you to know things she skipped on the test. She isn't very helpful to students and is very boring. Most days of class you can look around and over a third of the class is asleep.
3/4 of the class is failing. she says to change the way we study but maybe she should change the way she teaches and tests. very stressful for a first year pre-med student like myself, but i will be taking her class again. it'll be an accomplishment that i can be proud of. work hard, this is college. if you aren't strong-willed, don't take this.
Ah the infamous Wild. Her lectures are very interesting and I tend to learn a lot! She never assigns homework in biology 2. I honestly don't remember doing any for biology 1 either. Her tests are what make people mad. The questions are worded strangely and usually are confusing, but definitely passable if you study the appropriate subject matter.
As a Pre pharmacy student in my first semester of college this professor was honestly one of the worst professors at that campus. She was not helpful, she did not teach from the book, and her tests were absurd. I now believe that she seeks attention and has the label, the weed out queen. Do not feed into her power, just take the class elsewhere.
Dr. Wild is a very tough teacher and her class is unlike any high school class. However, she is very helpful in her one on one sessions. I would recommend anyone who takes her to meet with her during her office hours. I made a D on the first test and made A's on the rest of them.
This class was challenging and required a good amount of studying, but as long as you attend class, pay attention, and study small amounts each day instead of cramming at last minute you should be fine. You must understand the concepts instead of just memorizing the details and you learn a lot.
Dr. Wild is extremely tough. Granted, I did learn A LOT! I definitely learned more from her than any teacher before; tests are extremely hard & wordy. I always crammed the last 3 days before tests and made 1 B & 3 C's and left the class with a B-. Listen in class & I recommend watching YouTube videos to clearly demonstrate things before tests.
Dr.Wild is a good entry levelbiology professor. She just expects you to know the material .Everyone I know that did well in her class credits her with doing well on the biology sections of the MCAT or PCAT.Take her, you'll be greatful for this class later on. Read the book and make flash cards. I made an A- just doing that.
She gets a lot of grief, but if you cannot pass her class, I promise you will not pass the MCAT or PCAT, let alone survive medical or pharmacy school. Get real. I do credit my score on the MCAT partially to her. She deals with a lot of 18 year old babies who have no butt about them to actually do anything and just want a free grade. WORK PEOPLE!
I am currently in Dr. Wild's Bio II class. I have a graduate degree, but have never taken biology. I have attended three universities and have had many professors, and Dr. Wild is one of the best instructors I have ever had. She's a great lecturer - the time in class flies by very quickly. The tests are tough, but they are very fair.
I had Dr. Wild for Bio II after switching out of Foster. Her class is difficult and don't walk in expecting to pull out an A if you're not going to put in the effort. She is nice and approachable and really willing to explain or expound. If you're complaining about her it's because you're probably lazy or had a high school teacher spoon-feed you.
Her bio 2 class is ten times better than her bio 1 class. I would recommend her to anybody. Just learn her teaching style and think out of the box a little and you will be just fine.
I have recommended her for her bio 2 class, but I will admit her bio 1 class is much harder. Like I said, learn her teaching style and study at least 30 minutes every day.
If you are not willing to spend 5 or 6 hours a week studying for her class do not take her
She just reads straight from her power points which you can get online and never ventures from them. No guides for test. Extremely difficult teacher. Really nice person. But not a good teacher.
You have to know the material to do well. Don't expect an A if you aren't going to work for it. This is college, learn to work!!! She's tough but fair. If you need help she will bend over backwards to help you learn the info. I've gone to her with questions from other classes and she's helped me.
Questions on her test are more difficult to understand than the actual material itself. She will offer help like study sessions at 7am but they didn't help much. If you work a lot..Do NOT take her. VERYYY time consuming class!!! Take her with very easy and not time consuming classes if you have too.
Looking back at Bio 1 and 2, I really appreciate Dr. Wild teaching me to study. It's not about memorizing the material, anyone can do that. It's about understanding it. She's going to ask you to apply the material. It's hard, and it sucks. But it's possible, they don't just hand out Bio Degrees. The book is very important. Read and reread.
She is an awesome teacher and is very helpful. The class is not east what so ever, but if you put in the work you WILL make a good grade
Dr. Wild's test questions are a convoluted mess. However, she will give points back if you can articulately argue and show her you know your stuff. As far as knowing your stuff, YES, you will have to study A LOT to get by in this class. But if you're pre-med and you have a problem with studying, you do not need to be in this class.
She explained the material well. She offered study sessions once a week. The tests were critical thinking, but they were fairly simple after the first exam. I rarely study, and I am passing the class with an A. Buying the book helps but not completely needed.
Dr. Wild provides an impossible course. Her lectures have little correlation with the material on the tests (which often had errors) and she asked questions in a strange way, never to the point. I struggled and have 3 years of prior Biology exposure. If at all possible do not taker her. I was a Biology major and switched because of it.
You will have to study, but there is no way this class is impossible. If you can't pass her class with a decent grade you might as well give up on Med school or Pharmacy school. Her lectures are interesting and relevant, although her tests are often worded strangely. As long as you learn how to study and think you should be fine.
Dr. Wild creates a challenging class, however if a student has any questions she is more than happy to answer them for you. Attendance may not be "mandatory" but it's impossible to do well and miss many days. Great class, but does require lots of work
I absolutely love biology and it has always come naturally to me. Dr. Wild somehow made it hard for me. Bio 2 is slightly challenging material but it would not have been hard with a good professor. The test material really has nothing to do with what she teaches at all.
Nice teacher but really hard class to pass
Her class is very challenging. I love biology and found her class interesting, but her test questions are insane. ex. Criss Cross Apple Sauce tell me what this means? If you don't know the answer was the causation of the brain then you won't like her class. It feels like all you do in this class is to figure out her riddles.
Tests are awful. She tries comparing biological concepts to cookies and child themes. This is confusing for me as I'm a health major. Other classes use clinical examples to exercise and test our knowledge of concepts. She's out of touch with what it takes to teach at this level. Her students suffer because of this. Take at NORTHEAST or RODP online!
The tests are irrelevant if you're trying to get into a medical profession. Whereas other science courses require you to understand/apply relevant concepts, hers force you to apply your knowledge to confusing and asinine analogies. Clicker questions are often set-up so as to make you second-guess yourself. Do yourself a favor: run for your life.
Class is extremely challenging and discouraging. Test are irrelevant. Do not expect to find anything relating to the questions either online nor in a textbook. If you not know the answer to 'If you place a magnet on a bird's head, which way will it fly?' then consider taking this class at another college. Good luck my friends, good luck..
You should be tested on info from the book which you buy each year. Tennessee Board of Regents governs ETSU & material used in classrooms. Prof. Wild creates her test & boast in her syllabus that you cannot find answers to her ques. online or elsewhere. You are not tested on the mat., thus a low class avg. Take at another University.
Dr. Wild is an excellent teacher and I learned so much in her class. She provides you with everything you need to be successful in the class. However, her tests are quite difficult, not always clear, and completely concept based. If you study and read the chapters before class as instructed, it is not difficult to get an A or B in the class.
During Biology 2, I had the worst experience of my college career. I studied over 3 hours everyday for this course, hired a tutor, worked within study groups, and still was unable to pass the course. Tests are irrelevant to study material and Dr. Wild is arrogant and non-responsive to student concerns.
If you fail her class, then you were a lazy student who did not try. Yes, I had to study my butt off and read from the textbook, but her class is completely doable. AP Biology in high school really prepared me for her test. You cannot simply memorize the material you must truly understand it.
Try hard and you can do well in this class. Not an easy course. Dr. Wild will challenge you so be prepared.
She teaches concepts in class and expects students to read outside of class, which is not a hard requirement in college. I enjoy her a lot in lecture
Don't believe her bad rep! She is definitely one of the best teachers I've had yet. Very helpful, and her clicker questions and case studies keep you paying attention and interested in the class. You may find it challenging if you aren't already very interested or good at biology, but even then there are a lot of quizzes to help boost your grade.
I love Dr. Wild! Yes, it is extremely challenging, and it requires a tremendous amount of time and effort, but I've learned so much! She keeps class interesting, and class attendance and participation is crucial! She is willing to work with you and even has study sessions before test. I definitely recommend her if you are willing to work hard.
Don't believe these past reviews about her being an awful teacher. She is in fact a very intelligent person and a good communicator. I am a 3.6-3.9 student and I had to work and study hard to get my A. She stresses that you study before class to know the material. If you aren't a good student, well, best of luck to you.
Dr. Wild is a very intelligent women. She is willing to go above and beyond to help her students understand the material, but you must come to lecture and read the book. None of the classes here are an easy A. This is college for you, but If you are a dedicated student it won't be a difficult class. If you want an A you have to work for it!
I have tried to communicate with her multiple times. I only get arguments, no compassion, no caring. That's fine, when evaluations come back, she'll be well aware of her shortcomings in not only teaching lecture, but overseeing the labs. Pride and ego are her downfall. Demands dedication and attention but can't do that herself. Hypocrite.
This class is extremely hard! You should be prepared to study ALL THE TIME! She expects you to know everything before she even teaches it. Don't take her if you don't have to!
Dr. Wild's class is rather hard. You have to read your textbook before class and there are a lot of challenging quizzes. I will end up with an A, but I have worked really hard for it. If you plan on studying and always paying attention in class its not that bad. She really makes you critical think. I don't really recommend this class though.
She is a great teacher. Her class is interesting and she will do whatever she can to help you if you ask. Her tests are not impossible if you study.
Unfortunately, most of these negative comments are probably from students who just want a degree and not and not an education. I'm grateful for having taken Dr. Wild's class. It is tough, but you're getting your moneys worth of knowledge and a concrete understanding of Biology- if you choose to study and learn the material!
This class is very difficult. You really have to read every chapter before lecture and GO TO CLASS! Her tests are ridiculous but not impossible.
The textbook isn't needed... at all. She was very clear and added A LOT of lecture support posted online and even spared time to do study sessions. Highly recommend you attend class everyday. If you do that you will never crack a book. Print the slides she provides online and take notes using that, and you will get an A.
Clearly, this isn't an easy class. It’s in your best interest to read the textbook, preferably before you attend class because she likes to use case studies to teach the material. Her tests are like case studies, not standard test questions, but she does give study guides and allows you to use a hand-written note card. It's hard, but not impossible
Dr. Wild is an awesome teacher and really works hard to make sure her students are actively engaging with what is being taught. She doesn't baby you and expects you to know the material well, but if you do that, you will succeed in her class. You have to try, but an A is not impossible despite what others might tell you.
Dr. Wild is a great professor! Yes, she is hard and she does expect a lot from you, but it's only because she knows our potential. This class is not impossible in the least, but you might have to study your butt off to achieve the grade you want. Overall, I would definitely recommend Dr. Wild to anyone willing to learn and work for their grade!
She gives tests that her lab teachers have been known to fail. You may think you know the material front and back, but think again. Unless you can read minds, her tests will come across as confusing and very indirect. Get used to reading your text book because it will be your only friend. If you try to talk to her it will be your fault. Have fun.
Dr. Wild is a great teacher and her tests arent terrible as these people make it out. I transferred from a community college and went into her bio 2 class and exam 1 I got a 91 when the average= 72 All you have to do is show up, take notes, study the power points and read the book, youll do fine. Just learn how to study and you'll make a C at least
Jeez. She's a really rotten responder. As in, she doesn't; after she claims to want to help. Seems to me that the kids that give her the most attention are the ones that do better in the class. Had trouble with some concepts and asked her for help. Received none. Pretty much watched Bozeman science to help myself.
she is an ok teacher, gets you the knowledge you need. but she is terrible at writing multiple choice questions. does not always designate where the material you need to know comes from. as a biology nerd, the very high standards she holds her students to are great, but at times she doesn't exhibit this herself. gets terms mixed up and so on.
This class is very hard, and she makes it harder. Her tests are ridiculous and if you want to pass, make sure you go to class.
I was doing terrible in the class until I met with her after class. Next thing you know I am getting straight A's in the class. Absolute Beaut of a professor ;)
