EXTREMELY knowledgeable but it was overwhelming because she didn?t stop talking for three hours straight. Her Powerpoints had way too much information that she frequently rushed through. I took a 3 hour class with her on the US since 1945. The class and prof were GREAT! of the 3 hours, 1 hour was for student presentations/a quick break. 2 hours was lecture, with a lot of really great youtube clips and student discussion. I don't think she's biased, but we learned a lot of bad things the US gov. did. Those were facts, not bias!

Although she was very intelligent and knew what she was talking about, she was very biased and that showed in her already poor, self-oriented teaching skills. I liked the class. This was a 3-hour night class, which sucks no matter who the prof is. You have to expect a professor to do alot of talking in one of those b/c you meet once a week. This was a manageable class but you HAVE to write five discussion board posts. There's a total of five essays and if you take notes and pay attention during the lectures you'll do fine with the essays. She does curve the first and last essays and gives good feedback. She also has everything set up for the entire semester.

I loved her Modern History class because of how she exposed more information on history that wasn't previously known. Her class is treated as a lecture, so it seems long but very interesting. Definitely consider participating in class discussions, she likes to hear from the class. She was very personable and considerate to her students.

Unless u absolutely adore history then I doubt ur going to like her class. If ur expecting a professor that shows empathy then don't take this class. She doesn't assign hw but there's LOTS of reading. Don't expect good explantations on essays nor immediate response to emails nor does she even TRY to show that she might care for her students.

Professor Taranto teaches students what the study of history truly is, and if you do the work and pay attention, you will do well. It's frustrating to be in a class with students who don't work hard, I could never handle it as well as she does. It's college, you should be open to learning new things and doing reading!

Prof Taranto lectures for 1 hour 40 minutes straight. Has a strict 3 absence policy before effecting grades. We write multiply papers cited in Chicago. It is currently finals week and I still only have received a grade for a paper worth 10% of the total grade. If you have a choice of FYS courses, DO NOT take this one.

She lectures for the entire class with no class engagement. Often complains about have to teach the same course back to back. Does not give clear instructions on assignments. When asked for clarification gives extremally vague answers. She openly admitted to favoring students, said she will give higher grades to students she likes.

This teacher isn't the worst teacher I've had, but is in the top 5. Her class is boring and doesn't try to make it fun. She gives few assignments which makes it difficult to pass her class. She is lecture-heavy, and only talks about women's history all the time. Beware of textbooks she tells you to buy on the first day of class. Unorganized as hell

When I did a 8 page midterm paper for her, I had a problem uploading the midterm. At the time of submission there was no issue but she told me she never got it THE DAY OF submission. She didn't try to help me fix the issue and it was just a mixed emotion of me worrying about getting a bad grade and made me frustrated/angry. I wish I could rate less

i am taking this course about american women in politics because i thought it was interesting, however i was wrong. She is a tough grader, disrespectful and rude over emails and when you speak to her, directions are unclear with her assignments, pushes her views and her book down your throat, lectures are not helpful, heavy on readings, stay clear

Taranto lectures for the entire duration of her class, it can get boring and she expects constant participation. There are only three grades for the whole semester. She has not graded our papers from over a month ago and told us she needs another 3 weeks. Good luck finding the textbook she tells u to get in the first class. Dont take her.

She lectures the entire class, which gets pretty boring, always 5-15 mins late, gives okay directions for papers, if you don't understand something she'll respond to email, put in the effort in her class, or else your grade will be affected by it. The discussion posts are hard to get the hang of so I recommend doing it in the first few classes.

Professor Taranto is one of the harshest graders I have ever experienced. She added curves on the midterm and final because she failed everybody. There's only 3 assignments, and she picks apart absolutely everything, and If you don't "write like a historian," you will not get a good grade. If you can avoid taking her, I HIGHLY suggest doing so.

This class showed me what American history really is and how to work like a historian. She has a cool assignment where she shows you how ChatGPT analyzed a primary source we read in class and then you write a paper on how/why the chatbot didn't analyze it well. It really showed the pitfalls of AI! Professor is interesting and kind,

If you're not sure history is your thing but need to take a history Gen Ed, I'd take her 150. Shows you what history really is, kind and interesting. It's not super easy, but if you pay attention and pass things in, you'll do well. All essays, but that is history. She says historians don't do T/F and multiple choice, so students shouldn't.

Unclear grading policy, ridiculous attendance policy (3 absences before it affects grades, excused or not) Requires Chicago/Turabian for essays, and lectures solidly for the entire class time. Claims to want discussion but does not allow for discussion during her lectures. She would probably be good as a history prof. but not for an intro class.

She likes to brag about how she came out of Brown and Duke and how she is a “historian.” Which has nothing to do with the class at all. She talks about how we should learn to write like an historian and gives useless papers to write. I have learned nothing from her class. Too long & avoid classes that she teaches unless you're really interested.

Taranto was a really kind professor who is really passionate about what she does. She expects class to participate through the lecture SO READ!! Awkward when no one participates. Readings that were 20+ pages due for every class but we had a week to get it done. No tests. She rewards you with a good grade if she sees you put work in and improve.
