Mrs A is amazing! she relates well to the class and offers help wherever needed! this was by far my favorite class this semester! I would HIGHLY recommend her!
easy class, she makes it fun, class ends early every day
Very nice professor. She is funny and doesn't tend to lecture long. The speeches require effort, but I made an A on all of them. Classes are done before Thanksgiving break.
there are four speeches, one test, no final, easy assignments. I put effort into my speeches and got a B. She is a spotty grader, some of my better speeches got lower grades than my bad ones. STUDY for the test because it makes the difference between an AB!! I love her, so sweet, great prof.. just have to put effort into her class.
Took her for group comm. Tests include an individual 10 question MC quiz, then a 25 question group test. The entire semester is one big group project that you present at the end of the semester. She puts the powerpoints for lecture on eCampus so you don't really need to take notes because she reads off the powerpoint. Loved her and her class
Information for testsquizzes are in her power points, didn't buy a book, but there was like one question on her final review that couldn't be found online or on her power points. Make sure you get with a group you like otherwise you'll be stuck with them for the entire semester. Easy A class and the professor is really really sweet!
She is the most understanding professor I have ever had and is willing to help students whenever possible. Would highly, highly recommend her.
Great Prof. She gives you a review of exactly what will be on the tests. She makes lectures relatable to real life. Would take again.
She is very clear in what she expects of you and she does not stray away from the syllabus so you can easily keep up with the course. Easy A as long as you attend class because she takes attendance each class. I got a 100 on every assignment we had as the course is project based rather than essay based. Sweet professor & very caring.
She grades pretty tough on the speaches, but grades much easier on written assignments. There is one exam, but she gives you a review and only asks questions from that. Two group speeches and two individual speeches. Longest speech is 6-8 minuites. Takes attendance every day, but gives you three "free drops".
This class is really easy. She gives study guides that have everything you need to know for the test. I stopped taking notes week 1 and still got a's on the test. The group project takes 5 minutes to complete. The teacher is really down to earth, and she is interesting too!
Study the book first then the power points a week before the exams. Learn the concepts, don't just memorize.
I passed this class with an A but still do not understand the material any more than before I took this class. She doesn't really seem to understand the material herself, and only explains theories based on youtube videos and cliche memes. She treats this class like a joke and is on her phone the entire time. Easy A, but you won't learn anything.
Ms. Aschenbeck is a terrible lecturer. Literally all of her presentations are links to YouTube videos. I'd learn more on my own volition than I have in this class. It feels like a high school class all over again.
Awesome professor. I really enjoyed her COMM 305 class. I wasn't really looking forward to taking this class, however with her clips and her relatable examples, it helped out a lot. Gives you the review that basically is the test, I never used the book. Study the review and at least do the group project, you'll make an A.
Incredibly easy class all around. Put in some effort to your speeches and you will likely make a high B or low A. She is cool to talk to. Regardless of what time her class is offered I recommend you choose her over any other COMM prof especially Wendi Bellar who's speech averages are in the low C's.
This class was good, I would take her again because she tries to relate the material to the students to help us better understand. We watch a lot of videos, and the group project was super easy.
Professor Aschenbeck's class was my favorite this semester. The class is somewhat interesting, and she makes sure to apply theories to real-life examples, so it's easier to understand. Class is easy because we watch a ton of videos. She takes attendance!! She gives test reviews straight from her lectures. DON'T BUY THE TEXTBOOK
I took Theories of Communication with Aschenbeck and it was my favorite class of the semester. Since lectures are mandatory, she puts effort into making them fun and relatable. She is great at helping students inside and outside of class. 10/10 would take her again.
Class isn't hard, attendance is just mandatory. Missing three classes drops you a letter grade, so show up. She's very caring, easy to talk to, and funny, as well as provided many extra credit opportunites.
Loved her! She's sweet and wants everyone to succeed. Show up to class, she's a nice lady, no point in skipping. Do the work and keep tabs on your grade because you submit a lot online so if she doesn't find your work in her inbox she may not give you a grade for it. So check on that. Sit next to people you want to work with.
Stacy is my favorite human... I 10/10 recommend taking her whenever you can!
Lectures were really boring, but you don't really need to pay attention. Cumulative final at the end regarding all of the lectures, the final was harder than expected. TA is the main grader though, and you have to really prepare for your speeches.
Stacy is a nice person, but awful professor. This class is extremely easy, but a waste of time. You learn nothing. It is all watching videos and her basically just making sure you show up & saying that your attendance is a "class activity" on ecampus. She is unprepared, should not be a college professor. Please do not waste your $ taking this class
Professor Aschenbeck took over the class after Spring break because our original professor did not come back. This made the class much better and not miserable to attend. She is a very reasonable grader, and the final was not bad at all. One point of extra credit for a 30 minute assignment that is worth doing regardless of the credit.
If you're looking for an easy online summer class to take with an internship or just a low effort summer credit, TAKE THIS CLASS. Easy way to knock out a 3 hour course credit and boost your GPA. She gives you everything at the beginning of the week and it's all due by Saturday. It's the best
Easiest class ever! Really interesting topics came up. Attendance isn't mandatory but sometimes she does in class activities that count for a grade so show up! Tests are super easy! She gives you a review the class before and as long as you know all the topics on the review, you'll ace the test.
She was a really nice professor. She had in class assignments that would count for her daily attendance grade. She also had a series of indv. projects and one group project but they were not hard at all. If you turn in the work and show up to class you will get an A.
2nd class I've taken from her and it was the best! She makes everything so easy! Sometimes there's in class assignments that count as a daily grade so be careful skipping. If you just fill out and study the reviews she gives you for the tests, you'll be golden. All of her projects are super easy to do as well!
Very easy class and prof is very understanding. She is laid back and doesn't ask for too much of you. Random assignments in class for attendance so don't skip too much. Projects are easy and so are tests if you follow the review sheet. Is a little disorganized so keep on top of her for grades.
I was genuinely interested in taking this class but I did not get much from it. I really wished she went into more detail on the things we discussed, such as the book we had to buy and read. There were assignments we had to do but she never took them up or let us present, so we were confused on what assignments she was counting for credit.
Loved taking her class this semester. She is really nice and cares about her students. Her class is not difficult, just pay attention and you should pass. She really likes when her students interact with her during class so don't be afraid to answer a question or ask one yourself. One easy group project towards end of semester
This was a hybrid class, so we only met once a week. The entire class period was spent on lecture and taking notes. She explains things well and will clarify if you don't understand. We also had a class groupme that she was in, where she also answered questions. Besides a weekly online quiz and easy exams, there's one group project due at the end
Aschenbeck's class is really easy but I think it's because she doesn't really know what she's talking about. She's constantly making mistakes and has to be corrected by students. She also isn't the most accessible prof. Anytime I email her I'm lucky to get two words in response. It's an easy A but you probably won't learn anything.
Took with her as a minimester course & let me say I regret it. The class itself is extremely meticulous & I actually spent all day on my computer doing work for this one class. I understand it is a semester worth of work in two weeks but it was ridiculous. She took too long to answer emails, & when she did all I got was, "yes sent from iphone"
Professor Aschenbeck is by far the BEST prof I've ever had. She has a way of explaining things that makes it all seem so easy. She genuinely cares about her students and wants them to succeed. TAKE HER CLASS IF YOU GET THE CHANCE!!
She does not care about her students during COVID. She was not accessible outside of class, sent excessively rude emails and GroupMe messages to students on multiple occasions, and told us too many times that she would be "more willing to help" if we showed up to class instead of being on Zoom, DURING A PANDEMIC. I have no respect for her. Avoid.
RUDE RUDE RUDE
She was largely not present for the entirety of the class. Grading requirements for speeches were odd at times and a little unfair, but nothing that was a very big deal. Speech requirements were often very open-ended for a project-based class, so just be weary of that.
Everything is set up on McGraw Hill except a random group project. Somewhat organised. 12 sections, each section has the usual quiz, chapter exercise, and a discussion through McGraw. Tests are also on McGraw Hill. 2 tests. Fairly easy but fast pace and a good amount of work.
Terrible teacher who does not care about this class at all. Very easy but DO NOT TAKE!!!
The most disorganized instructor I've ever had. Good bit of homework and several projects, but barely graded until the last few weeks. Online class page was barely navigable. She made a class GroupMe but disbanded it around midterms when several students criticized these issues. Very sweet and has fun projects, but shouldn't be a college professor.
This is an easy class if you need a comm credit, the only grades are quizzes from readings on McGraw and then tests and a group project. She's hard to reach outside of class and spends most of class just reading the PowerPoint and showing sitcom clips to show examples of stuff, and shows way way too many Ted Talks, but she's nice and not unpleasant
As long as you read the textbook, do the weekly reading, quiz, and discussion, you'll be fine. The only reason I'm giving her a low rating is because she practically read off of the powerpoint to teach and had a 10 minute youtube video with each slide. I never learned from lecture; I would try to take someone else if you can.
Really easy going professor who also doesn't hold any sort of bias on speech topics. She is also a fair grader on the speeches. Class consists of a weekly assignment, 4 speeches, and one exam. Overall, I would definitely recommend taking this class.
IF YOU NEED THIS CREDIT TAKE IT ONLINE! The entire lectures are just her playing Ted talks. The lectures are not applicable to the exams, but there are participation grades so you are forced to attend them. The exams were through McGraw Hill but her PowerPoints covered her own material. Taking this class in person was honestly a waste of time.
All the speeches are simple and straightforward. Not much information is presented during lecture, mostly just definitions. The test was the hardest part of class for me, we were so focused on speeches that the test fell to the wayside, parts also felt subjective so pay attention to how she explains things, not google or supplemental videos.
Lots of busy work. Reading assignment, discussion post, and quiz every single week. Lectures are pretty dry and I never got much from them, but of course she gives unannounced in class assignments to make people come instead of giving entertaining lectures so people will want to come. Easy A, but lectures are a waste of time.
I took it online and it was really easy. There's minimum interaction with the professor and all the material is available on canvas from the beginning. There's something due almost every day but the assignments are pretty easy. You just do the chapter reading, take the quiz, and write a discussion post. Besides that 2 exams and a group project.
Two tests a semester, not open note and were somewhat difficult. The hw is through McGraw Hill online and you just have to take a weekly quiz and post a discussion. The class is very easy and attendance is not mandatory. One group project at the end of the semester. No final. Loved Stacy.
She does not put out her grading criteria for the major assignments so it is just a guessing game unless you meet with her for office hours and ask her. She looks for certain aspects of the speeches given that she does not specify and it is a "mandatory D" if they are not included. She is also a slow grader and don't expect helpful feedback.
DO NOT take this prof! Lectures are pointless. She uses McGraw Hill for everything so be ready to memorize the entire textbook. If you don't go to every lecture you will either get a C or fail bc of random in-class assignments. Seriously... find a different prof NOW. Literally HATED this class.
Professor Aschenbeck is great! Super easy and enjoyable course. Most of it is through McGraw-Hill. She's super nice and I would definitely recommend her!!
while going to class may feel like a drag sometimes (considering how you already learned the material from the hw due the day before), this class really isn't bad at all. the assignments are easy so just make sure you show up to class (at least most of the time) to make sure you get credit for the attendance and you should be fine!
Her class was easy online. You can get weeks ahead in the class in matters of days if you really want to. It all really straight forward class nothing to worry about.
Very manageable for the summer. Take this class!
This class is incredibly easy. I don't know why all the reviews are so bad because it is actually the easiest A. The lectures definitely aren't the most interesting but all you have to do is show up to class, do the in-person assignment for a participation grade, and then do 1-3 assignments every week that are super easy A's.
Took her class as a general elective, safe to say it was an easy A for me. You just need to attend the lectures and do your homework. Be aware of group project for this class. She is very respectful and will care for you.
This class is an easy A with some effort. There are 4 speeches you need to do, last being a group speech. Writing the speeches weren't difficult. The only hard part was having to memorize them but she allows you to have outlines while speaking. I would definitely recommend her.
This was my second time taking Professor Aschenbeck and she is great! This class was such a breeze and a nice break from my other tough classes. Course consists of in-class attendance grades, one weekly homework assignment and discussion post, and one exam at the end of the semester. She is so friendly and wants you to do well!
Attendanec is mandatory- in class assignments, but this is literally an EASY A. Prof Asch is a super sweet lady and is quite passionate & knowledgable about the subject she teaches. The assignments are all easy 100s, a few discussion posts, and about 10 annotations (follow rubric = auto 100). Overall easy comm credit, highly reccommend.
Prof Aschenbeck is very nice, however as a professor she is very scattered & disorganized. She makes an easy and interesting class confusing and annoying. If you email her, expect to get an extremely late and unprofessional reply that doesn't answer any questions. Her way of keeping attendance is so faulty and sets her students up for failure.
She wasn't very clear on her grading criteria and she was letting her personal beliefs get in the way of teaching the subject matter.
Followed all her project grading criteria (mind you it was very limited) and still only got an 80 on the project. Grading criteria is lacking and the way points are distributed is unfair in my opinion. Try and find another class if you can.
The majority of the class grade is a weekly discussion post and speech evaluation. Her grading and project criteria were not clear at all and she mispelled a lot of important information throughout the semester. She's nice but that may be it.
Her lectures were very biased, she didn't know the material, her instructions were very unclear, she wouldn't provide a rubric, and she would grade you badly without feedback. The material was not difficult to learn, but she made the learning process very complicated. She would have random in-class assignments to force students to show up.
This class was easy. It had lots of assignments to do but it was really not a terrible class. I would recommend if you need an easy elective or comm class. Only had 1 exam and if you actually put effort into the assignments and get As on them, you can get a lower grade on the exam and still do good.
Yea she's super biased in her teaching. Its very obvious she's conservative which is okay but I don't like when her opinions interfere w/ teaching. Assignment and Discussion post every week was repetitive. But her class was easy and this is her first semester teaching it so I can give her some grace there
She was a nice person, but not a good professor. She was very biased to the point that it affected how she taught, and her lectures can be hard to follow. Repetitive weekly homework and occasional projects. She randomly had in-person group projects to make you show up. Her rubrics were confusing and practically nonexistent, final was easy though.
I get that she didn't write the syllabus for this course & they kinda just threw her into it but she could've tried a little harder. She graded everything at the very last minute and never gave clear grading criteria. Repetitive assignments and discussion boards. She also had auto-capitalization off? Which is...odd for a university professor lol
Shockingly rigorous and time-consuming for a comms class. The professor obviously holds a lot of passion and care for this class, and that translates into the workload and grading criteria. Can be harsh, sometimes nearly to a fault, but is willing to explain your mistakes in office hours. Very friendly and approachable. Want a free A? Avoid her.
She always seemed confused. In her own class? She never seemed prepared for anything and often just made up assignments off the top of her head. No one ever really knew what was going on (her included). The grading was also weird; again, she'd just make things up and give you a grade.
I was excited for the class based off the description, but I was very wrong. She's nice, just not qualified for this course. She constantly points at people and tell them to google something, or she would (on her phone while we just sit there) Never prepared and comes to class late. Don't buy the textbook bc its never mentioned.
I don't understand why all of her ratings are so low. I loved her as my professor and enjoyed her class. She's really funny and cool to talk to. She was a good professor and is always willing to help out of class; go to her office hours if you have questions. This is def a doable class! Take her. I'm definitely a better speaker now after her class.
I was very excited to learn about the COMMUNICATION aspect of sports, but this class is just like a sports 101. It's very basic knowledge and I genuinely wish I learned more. She seems confused when lecturing. She also has personal biases, and it shows in class. Grading was weird, assignments were randomly made up during class. Very unorganized.
By far one of the worst professors I've had at Texas A&M. Her class and teaching style is a complete joke, she's very rude and unhelpful. It's disappointing given the university's strong reputation. If you're considering COMM 260 or Sports Communication, PLEASE take it with a different professor.
This class was pretty was pretty easy. there were weekly assignments that were not difficult, 2 exams, and a group project. She gives reviews for the exams so just take the definitions from Mcgraw Hill and study those and you'll be good.
Can easily hold bias against students, when students unintentionally caused a small interruption to classes schedule. Easily reveal indifferent, annoyed, frustrated face to the students she doesn't like. Directly ignore me when other student comes up with a topic she interested to, even I was asking about formal stuffs.
Attendance not mandatory, but still needed to write your name in your groups to get credit for group assignments so you still need to show up. The “final exam” was 50 questions and on paper and they were previously all online. Told us right when we got to class that it was going to be on paper, then letting us know in advance. Take another class.
random group assignments, and grading randomized. okay teacher, makes the class harder than it needs to be. makes your semester inconsistent if you want to know when to show up to class, and syalbus isn't really helpful at all.
I feel like the course is supposed to be easier than she made it, and she graded the first few speeches unnecessarily harsh so that students wouldn't finish with an A. Oddly enough, she shared some story about giving a straight A student his first B, but she seemed so proud of herself for doing that…? I don't recommend her for an easy A.
I get why her ratings are low, but she honestly isn't that bad. This class is disorganized and she doesn't really understand what she is teaching, in my opinion. I am taking her again for a different class, so you will be fine if you have to take her. Go to class because she does "in class assignments", basically just random attendance checks.
I loved this class! Professor is very caring and intentional, super personable both in and outside of class. Tests aren't difficult but definitely study the lecture slides. Interesting classes, group assignments that count as attendance each class and one group project. I'm taking her again next semester for a different class, I highly recommend!
