Geck was fantastic in terms of learning real world things. Yes, the class is hard. Yes, she grades hard. But If you would rather actually learn something useful take her class. If you just want an A, take another teacher.
Geck was by far the best professor I have had at USC. Her 302 course is harder than the other ones, but I came out of her class with a lot of valuable information
She's not nearly as good as people say she is. If I could take 302 over again, I would do it with someone else. She doesn't teach you anything I would consider worthwhile, and grades subjectively so you feel helpless the whole way through. The book you read in the class, Articulate Executive, is interesting though. Her class is a waste of money imo
hardest and msot useless business class i have ever taken
In short, stay away from this teacher at all costs. She grades very hard, and assigns poorly written books that you have to rote memorize. At the end of every class there is a pop quiz where students are selected randomly to regurgitate material from the reading, if they don't, they fail it. She is vindictive and self-righteous, a disastrous combo.
I'm going to have nightmares of BUAD302 for some time thanks to her. I've never felt so helpless about my grade in my life. She is unreasonable and subjective when it comes down to assigning grades.
Amazing! Hard but well worth it.
Stacy is the best professor I've had in 3 years at USC. She gives clear instructions, and if you follow those, it's not that hard to earn a good grade. She has a fun personality and is always accessible for questions. She even gave us her cell phone number so we could call her with questions any time.
AAAAAWESOME!!!! By far the best professor at Marshall. At times she's hard, but she's always fair. In no other class at USC have I learned as much really useful information as in BUAD 302 with Geck.
Stacy is the BEST!!!!!!!!!!
Stacy is seriously the best. If you follow her instructions and call her/go to her office hours and check with her about your assignments, you'll get a good grade. She's not vindictive or mean. She's really nice. And funny. I was pretty excited to go to class everyday. She loves her students and loves her job. Take her! You'll learn a lot.
Stacy is rad, but difficult class. Hardest 304 professor. You do over 2x as much work than other 304 classes. Everyone just kind of winds up with a B. Everyone on here says you learn so much in her class but honestly if you take 304 & 307 there's a ton of overlap. If you wind up with her atleast know she is fun and cool but lots of work.
Now that the semester is over, I can say it: THIS CLASS IS F-ING HARD. But I already used what I have learned here in a job interview, and oh my, does IT PAY OFF!!! Probably the most important class I took at USC. Stacy is IMHO hands down the best teacher here. Stacy, if you're reading this, thanks for a great class.
Stacy is a great teacher. The class was very difficult, but one of the more important classes I've taken at USC. The speaking ability of every student went up tenfold by the end of the class. The downside is it's very difficult to achieve a grade higher than a B in the class. However, taking the class is still entirely worth it
You will hate your life! Something new everyday, never ending workload. If you like to be called on randomly (and often) this is the class for you- not for me. Im sure you will learn plenty in this setting if you can put up with it for a semester. More memorization of the book than any undergrad class ive ever taken.
Based on Geck, I got the job of my dreams. She prepped me right. Take her class if you want to leave USC with a good job and strong com skills.
If you want to be prepared for the real world, Geck is by far the best teacher to have as a Business Comm teacher. After taking this class giving presentations will be a piece of cake. She is the most helpful prof I have ever had. I feel this class should be a mandatory class for all college students and Geck would be the best teacher to take.
Hands down the best professor I have ever had at USC. She makes class very interesting and you WILL learn a lot of useful skills from this class. Very helpful and genuinely interested in the class. That being said, this class is VERY HARD in terms of workload and grading.
Good professor and useful class but grading is way too subjective. Students whom she likes will get an A even with average performance. The rest will get B's no matter what. Take this class if you want to learn, but not if you're looking for a fair grader.
LOVED this class- so different from all other BUAD classes. You really get to know everyone in the class and Stacy helps you build your speaking skills and gives you the tools to be successful in the business world. She is always willing to help too. Do the readings & be prepared-there are quizzes! Attendance is mandatory but you'll want to go!
Amazing!
If you value your quality of education, by all means take this class. If you value your grade, take this course from other professors. You have been warned.
Grading too hard! Otherwise great class.
Stacy is one of the best professors i have had! Her class is actually fun to go too even though you have a lot of work and quizzes almost every class. Besides that, i learned a lot and she really helped in recruiting and anything else i needed advice in. Take stacy, she's awesome
Overall, great professor! Although she is a tough grader and makes you work hard for your grade, by the end of the semester, you will be happy not only with your grade, but with what you have learned from the course!
AMAZING PROFESSOR! She actually cares about all of her students which is truly amazing. She is a really tough grader however.
A great teacher! She knows how to teach and you will learn not only class materials but also life lesson! Take this class you will enjoy it!
Tough Grader but students can actually learn stuff from her class.
Stacy is simply phenomenal! Her class is clearly organized in a way that allows you to significantly improve your presentation skills. She is very energetic and has a great sense of humor. Also, you get to know everyone in class, which makes it even more exciting to go to class. Make sure you get to know her, she is an amazing. Take her class.
A life changing class.
While I don't necessarily understand (or subscribe to) the "guru-istic" aura surrounding her, Professor Geck has a lot to offer her students—interestingly blurring the lines in her classroom between academics and (secular) spirituality. I think, however, given her uniquely inspirational energy, she would be more effective in an advising capacity.
Final is worth a third of your grade which allows Stacy to basically pick what grade she wants students to have. She is very strong willed and loves to brag about herself. However the class does encourage students to form bonds with their classmates
Most inconsistent professor I've ever had. Do NOT take this class. If you're already familiar with the recruitment process, her class is redundant. If you already took marketing, her class is redundant. Professors should be there to help students, but Stacy only abides by favoritism. Do yourself and favor and find another professor.
By far my favorite prof at USC. I heard students describe other 302s & how they hated them, due to the content that was covered. Stacy teaches material not included in other sessions which was helpful in both personal/professional life. This class has been such a personal growing experience for me, I wish I could learn more from her. sad it's over!
Truly cares about her students. To those of you whining about her class being hard, wait until you get to the real world. You're better off with a hard grader who pushes you to learn than an easy A.
She is seriously AWESOME! she cares so much about her students and is always will be there for you. I recommend wholeheartedly that you take her class. She is one of those professors you will always want in your life. You also learn a lot. I am currently in her class and love her and the class!
Stacy is hands down one of the best professors I've had at Marshall. However, it is best to be weary even if she loves you she won't hesitate to fail you. She is so inspirational, but sets the bar so high. Though there was so much work involved, I don't regret taking this class at all.
Geck is a very nice and warm professor who will help you out. Getting an A is nearly impossible because of how she grades and the Marshall curve. Lots of presentations, most of the grade is dependent on how you present with your group and only one midterm. The whole class is graded very hard and thus almost everyone ends up with a B.
Horrible professor , but good actress, she keeps acting like that she is a nice person, in fact she is really mean! Stay away from her. Everyone keeps saying she is really nice, because she is really good at acting.
Professor G, is the best professor I've ever had. You should plan your schedule around her class because this is that one professor everyone talks about that makes you regret choosing someone else. Professor Geck is so easy to talk to comfortably that I could address her as Professor G and she'll respond in the same friendly manner.
She cares a great deal. Sometimes too much to make tough decisions.
The one thing that people should know about Professor Geck's 302 class is that it stimulates, challenges and enriches you in ways you didn't think possible. The fact that she is so dedicated and passionate makes you want to put in your best effort despite how difficult it is to get a good grade.
My communication skills grew more than I expected from only one semester with her.
Awful, awful class. She's one of those professors who's completely obsessed with herself, and she plays favorites to the students who stoke that ego. She doesn't actually teach anything about effective communication beyond common sense; instead, she spends literally half the semester preaching the wonders of the MBTI test. It's basically her bible.
Her class was great! I loved going to class and was NEVER bored. She is a tough grader, but just literally do everything that's on the syllabus, and you're fine. I got an A, but I had to work for it. She is very helpful and gives great career advice!
Stacy is the best professor I've had at USC. If you want to get your dream job, this class is a must. She will challenge you but you will definitely walk away with more confidence. Follow the syllabus she gives at the beginning of the class and you will do fine.
Phenomenal class. You only have to read for the pop quizzes. You're able to work with one group for more than half the semester. It's an easy A if you show up, read, and try your best. Geck is always available to help out, whether with class or recruitment questions. Highly recommend.
If you are not good at presenting, don't take this class. I had trouble but I have more trouble now. She's too hard at grading and her presentations are too structured which makes it difficult to present. She has favorites and if you are not already outgoing, I don't recommend her. She is really nice and will help you but makes it difficult.
Professor Geck is by far the best professor I've ever had. She teaches such valuable content that you will use for the rest of your career, and she truly cares about the success of her students. Expect frustrating group projects (you need a good team to succeed) and very hard grading. But overall, if you want to learn something - take Geck!
Best professor I have had at USC. She really cares about her students, very accessible. Almost impossible to get an A in her class but you learn so much from her. Don't take this class if you just want an A, take it if you actually want to learn something about yourself and about communications.
Stacy may seem tougher than other 302 professors because there are objectively more assignments, but you will get so much out of this class it is totally worth it. She will get you ready for the job application and recruitment process, make you a more comfortable public speaker, and give you the tools to succeed in the workplace. You wont regret it
For a class that is supposed to be based on career advancement, Stacy does not really prepare you for any real experience outside of the classroom. Instead, she uses MBTI tests as a crutch for the lack of a truly interesting curriculum. Moreover, she assigns multiple homeworks for each class and refuses to compromise on grading. Don't take her.
Stacy is a very impersonal professor. She does require a lot of work (most of which can be considered busy work) and is an extremely tough grader on presentations. You have to be a born professional public speaker to get an A in this class. Instead of helping students become better speakers, she just expects you to just be one. Wouldn't recommend.
Stacy was one of the best professors I've ever had because she genuinely cares about her students outside of the classroom outside of just the course itself- so helpful for career/etc. advice. The course is tough because of the amount of work you have to put in, but rewarding since you learn things you'll actually need for the real world. Def take!
For a class that is designed to help and ready you for recruitment, it is ironic that I had to withdraw from this class, taking a W on my transcript, to attend a hard-won finance super day. You may want to reconsider taking this class and professor during senior year if you are still recruiting.
Very friendly, genuinely cares about students success. Offers resume/interview help while you are her student and beyond. Does have a lot of presentations. Grades fair but is tough and honest about where your skills are from a professional perspective. Genuinely feel that I became a better speaker. Standard Marshall grading, A's are hard B's are ez
Anything that causes her the slightest bit of inconvenience makes her unwilling to work with you further. She went above and beyond to make me drop her class because I let her know ahead of time that I would be missing a single ELC activity for a professional reason.
She isn't the fairest grader ever, altho it's just my personal opinion. Not too comfortable with this class, not too open minded class and didn't learn much. Had to pay extra money for some unnecessary useless tests. Not recommend.
The final exam is tedious, a lot of common sense memorization. Didn't learn much and waste a lot of time in this course.
Overall this class is group work and presentations. Stacy relies heavily on MBTI to help you understand yourself/teammates. Somedays class seemed fun and engaging, other days you would come and watch videos/tedalks for almost the entire class period. She knows her stuff, but is a strict grader and doesn't tolerate or accommodate any excuses @ all.
If you miss a single class your grade drops A TON. She's the hardest grader I've ever had and you have so much homework. Don't take her class unless you are a professional public speaker who loves extreme amounts of busy work and tedious studying.
Very useful class and most helpful professor I have had at Marshall.
Tough but fair
She made me think & forced me to pay attention my communication decisions. I am more aware now of my style and personality because of her. I am also much more confident after taking her class. She forces you to be comfortable being uncomfortable.
Stacy makes you be a better public speaker. It isn't easy and it's very uncomfortable but that's how you improve. If you're looking to just pass, don't take her. If you want to seriously improve as a communicator, take her.
She's a pretty good teacher and you'll definitely improve your public speaking skills but her grading system makes zero sense. She grades unnecessarily hard and the average for group presentations is usually a C+/B- and doesn't care to curve anything. Almost everyone will finish this class with a B
Do not take her. She is a tough grader and does not care about students. Her grading methods are horrible. Impossible to get an A and you'd be lucky to get a B- in her class.
I attended every single class and got above average every presentation and still ended up with a B. I have no idea how she assigns grades since she is not up for negotiation about them but all I know is that the Marshall curve is not a thing for her. She is overall a good teacher and presenter but unfair grader. Ended this class feelin sad.
Prof. Heck is an extremely tough grader. She is unprofessional and has a highly subjective grading criteria. She decides what grade you get on the first day and no matter how much you work on improving your presentation skills, shell still act rude and judgemental. AVOID!!!
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. I had her for 302 and even as a senior, she sucks. All she does is talk about how much she knows and how much she's helped her other students. So many pointless presentations and readings, totally not worth any value. Horrible professor- assigned 10x the work and learned half as much. STAY AWAY
Stacy tries to encourage her students. She does give more assignments compared to other professors. If you are looking for an easy A, this class isn't yours. Right from the beginning of class, she says that this won't be the easiest class, but it will be worth it.
Ditto to everything below. Stace reminds me of a high school teacher who likes any opp to be on the soap box and would rather be a career counselor. Participate in every class! She's nice but has an unclear grading scale for final grades and emailed us saying that "final grades are non-negotiable" and asking to discuss grades is "unproffesional".
If you're looking for an easy A, this class is not for you. Stacy will teach you a ton if you're willing to learn, but you'll have to legitimately engage with the material to get a good grade. The skills you learn can actually be applied to work and daily life. My favorite course in Marshall.
Definitely not an easy A but I really enjoyed everything I learned from her and she really pushed us to become better speakers. She cares about her students and if you show you are putting in effort and complete all assignments youll do fine. Love her!
If you embrace a challenge to be better, Stacys class is an excellent opportunity to become a highly trained communicator. She sets the bar high and youll meet it. You dont take this class for the short term easy A, you take it for the incredible long term skills youll learn. Im happy with my B because of how much I grew. Shes amazing!
Worst professor at Marshall! For a Communication professor, she certainly does not communicate well. Gives terrible feedback. She's all talk. She talks about how she wants students to learn, how she understands students, but she clearly doesn't. Not necessarily difficult but her grading's just weird. You probably wouldn't get a good grade. Bye
Like everyone else is saying, she has a pretty unclear grading criteria and deadlines/deliverables can be confusing as well. She does genuinely seem to care about her students though, and is very considerate about zoom fatigue (we have asynchronous classes a few times a month).
Professor Geck is one of the best professors at USC. She's brilliant, dedicated, and is an expert. People giving her bad reviews are just upset she doesn't give easy A/A- grades like they're used to. You'll work hard - I had a 3.9 GPA and worked hard for a B+ in her class but I learned A LOT and she helped me overcome my fear of public speaking.
Professor Geck is one of the best professors at USC and one of the leaders in her field. We're lucky to have her at USC. Before I met her I had a crippling fear of public speaking. She spent countless hours with me outside of class to get me to overcome my fear including helping an hour over the phone the night before a big speech. She truly cares.
Stacy is so kind and helpful, but she does not give away A's. With school being online, she was available whenever anybody wanted to meet which is really important and rare. You definitely have to work hard, but I feel as if I have improved so much in effective communications that it was worth it.
Every class she takes note of who talked and who didn't, if you're in a talkative class go to her office hours to get participation. For presentations, you need to be off script, enthusiastic, and for online presentations she expects you to look into the camera and engage the audience. If you want the A/A-, you need to show that you care.
Her 302 so much unnecessary work and is way too much. There are 6 presentations & the criteria for all of them is unclear. For a communication professor, Stacy does not communicate clearly. It's either her way or the highway. I've always been a good presenter, and this semester was interviewing at top firms. This class did not help at all!! AVOID
Doesn't have clear grading criteria and very harsh and subjective in grading student's presentations. Go to her office hours if you want to get a good grade. She's also strict with deadlines and wants ur partitipation. You will have a midterm, final, blackboard assignments, and 2 pres. Hard to even get an A-. Also spend money on personality tests.
Absolutely the worst professor I have had at USC. It is currently right before the deadline to drop a class and I am strongly considering dropping her class. She is one of those terrible high school teachers who think they're super smart and brag about stories of how she helped her students. Terrible terrible communicator.
AVOID. It's ironic that for a communications professor, she CANNOT communicate clearly at all. Provides unclear rubrics and feedback for presentations. Way more work than other 302 classes. I had to dumb down my resume and CL for her assignment. 4 days before a paper is due she changed due date to EARLIER in the week bc of a wellness day.
She's the type of teacher who will literally message you for you to turn your camera on if you turn it off for ten seconds. Terrible at organizing the class assignments and deadlines. Lots more work than other 302 professors and you don't learn anything extra. I literally dropped out of Marshall because I realized how much I hated Geck and 302.
If you want to get a high grade without putting in the effort then this class is not for you. Also why do people want to pay $240,000 for 4 easy years? I have seen way too many comments complaining about how tough Professor Geck grades. Indeed, it is a difficult class but she's honest so you will learn a lot if you put in the effort. Goodluck!
TERRIBLE! Do not pick her if you have an option. She is the worst professor I have ever had at USC, and if you turn off your camera for like 15 sec, she text you and ask you to turn it on. She never understand other people, and if you are late for like 3 minutes, you get -10 on your participation. Lifesaving advice: do not take her
Such a sweet heart! I don't know why all these people saying these terrible stuff about her. They're being dramatic. She's so understanding and you can tell that she actually care about her students and want them to succeed. I really enjoyed her class, she's they type of person who when she talks you will want to listen. such a lovely professor.
Avoid if you have a gpa to maintain, other responsibilities stopping you from going to office hours -often-, or want a professor you can feel comfortable talking to. Not understanding during COVID & ridiculous expectations from vague criteria. If you are going to preach about how helpful you are to your students, at least be understanding.
As many have said, very unclear instructions and no clear grading criteria. Work in this class is either 1. credit/no credit or 2. everyone actually gets graded, so this means everyone has a grade near the average, making it hard to differentiate yourself from the Marshall curve (B). You need to participate and go to Office Hours. Don't recommend
Professor Geck is a person who is willing to help students to succeed. Her lectures are very useful and practical. I learn so many things from her lectures and her experiences. She is truly kind and understandable. I recommend her class! You will not regret it if you take her class.
Reminds me of high school teachers who give a lot of fluff work that you have to do to get a good grade (but actually adds no value and is a complete waste of time). But if you do everything the prof says (whether you like it or not), then you should be fine: go to OH or raise your hand to ask questions even if you don't have any.
She is a good teacher and definitely cares. However, the grading is so crazy and unclear, definitely a chance for the Marshall curve to screw you. Definitely difficult to get an A.
She's one of those professors who give off high school English teacher vibes. My entire group disliked her. Unless you're one of "those" Marshall students, you will regret taking her. If you do not know what I mean by "those" Marshall students, then you are one of "those" Marshall students.
Professor Geck is an amazing professor. She truly cares about her students and is helpful outside of class. She is a very tough grader but it truly helps you in the long run. I learned so much from her this semester. Definitely not an easy A but I highly recommend taking her class. Absolutely enjoyed all the feedback she gave me!
Participation is crucial to succeeding in this class. Go to office hours if you dont talk in class. Instructions for presentations can be unclear, but going to office hours and asking her for clarification really helped.
One of the best professors I've had at USC! Though it's a lot of work, that means there is more opportunity for you to stand out and get an A per the Marshall curve and feel more fulfilled while doing so. She is so inspiring and clearly has a passion for this field and wants to see us succeed not only in the classroom, but in our careers!
If she doesn't like you as a person, your grade will not be good. Extremely subjective and favoritism is clear in the grading. I'd say run and avoid if you can.
302 isn't great, but Stacy makes the lectures interesting enough. Grading is pretty clear, work not too bad, mainly group projects with a few tests. She will help you out if you need it.
BUAD 302 is such a valuable class if you have the right professor. Stacy is knowledgeable and gracious with helping. Turn in assignments on time, participate in class/office hours, ask thoughtful questions and for feedback! The workload is manageable; just check the schedule regularly. Stacy is a professor that truly cares about your growth.
For participation, you either go to her 7am office hour or talk A LOT in class or both. A lot of people didn't know going to office hours is part of the participation grade. She grades super weird and I heard she takes points off if u don't buy the tests on time. She's nice, but as a professor, just take someone else. Unless u snake through, no A?
She's pretty good. Seems a bit full of herself. Grading is very tough. Overall is a very easy good grade, but a tough great grade (A).
Clear and direct. Show up and be ready to learn.
wasn't sure about her at first. Definitely a lil bit full of herself but I don't think its that much of an issue. Tough grader for sure, but the class isn't that hard so if you put in a lil bit of effort you'll be fine. You do have to go to class and participate which may be an issue for some. Lots of presentations and group projects.
Stacy is the best professor I have had throughout my academic journey. Stacy goes out of her way to connect with students, preparing them for success within the academic/professional world. Stacy's character and competence are a testament to Marshall's excellence. Taking Stacy's BUAD 302 was the greatest investment in my future I have made.
9 presentations so if you don't like public speaking, not for you. She is also a tough grader and particular about how she likes things. But, she is an incredible teacher and extremely caring. Takes boring material and makes it interesting. Will prepare you very well for career interviews. If you have the chance, take her. You won't regret it.
Best BUAD 302 Professorl. Definitely a class you would want to schedule if you have a difficult class for the next semester. There is a lot of homework but not too intense. Feels more like busywork with Blackboard discussions and connect assignments. Homework takes approx. 30 mins to finish max. Stacy should be your top choice if you could choose.
Super nice prof and SUPER easy class. As long as you show up, participate, and do the assignments on time you will get an A. Sometimes she rambles/over explains. Overall a really nice lady and you just have to put up with how boring 302 can be. Would recommend you keep resume and cover letter samples for future job apps.
Avoid this class at all costs unless you're totally unable to public speak. Unhelpful feedback on presentations with very subjective and incredibly unclear grading criteria. Lots of unnecessary busy work.
You can tell she cares deeply about what she's teaching, and her storytelling is engaging and relevant to what she's trying to teach. Lots of group work, but it's enjoyable and it's been my favorite marshall class so far. Unlikely you'll find a better 302 prof. Class is SO EASY too, tough grader but hw is so light
Professor Geck is my favorite professor I've ever had at USC. She's a tough grader so the class is not an easy A, but what you learn is invaluable. In my opinion, her communications class is unparalleled. You learn how to pitch yourself and it completely changed my life. Take her! It will be the best decision you ever made.
Makes the class interesting, but has a lot of seemingly meaningful assignments and makes you buy the Connect for really boring homework with lots of group projects. Super engaging and for sure the way to go with 302, but be prepared to be a little bored of the class halfway through the semester
Stacy was super engaging and clearly cares a lot about her students. Lots of group projects in this class, but it was manageable.
Stacy's class isn't an easy A; she deducts points for minor errors without clear explanations. Despite this, I recommend those wanting to improve public speaking. Stacy cultivates a supportive environment, emphasizing the development of speaking skills for everyone. Grades depend on group projects and participation, with midterms and finals at 5%.
Stacy is a great teacher, producing highly engaging and entertaining lectures, but unfortunately she creates far too much busy-work that can easily be overseen. Be organized and this class will be great, but otherwise your done for.
Super good professor, learned a lot. Very hard grader and lots of presentations.
Best teacher I've ever had, without a doubt. She's not the easiest grader, but you'll learn so much. She's incredibly helpful, keeps her class interesting, and really cares about her students. If you can take a class with her, definitely do it!
Geck is a knowledgable professor but her lectures feel rambly. If you aren't free during her office hours, good luck, because she doesn't make time for students. Everything is groupwork, and if your group is bad, she is not forgiving at all. Her feedback is vague and messy. Although the class content is easy, she makes it boring.
Stacy is an amazing professor. The class is easy so the Marshall curve might hurt you but nonetheless, separating content from professor, Stacy is an amazing lecturer. The content itself is extremely boring at times when you don't go to the ELC, but that's just the nature of the class.
Stacy is awesome! She's very caring and her teaching methods really work. I got a full time offer based on her lectures, guidance, and suggestions. She is clear with directions and due dates, and her exams are based on study questions...not difficult. Definitely one of my most favorite USC professors.
No TAs, you get real feedback from Professor Geck. She really cares about you & is glad to clarify the material & help you grow your communication skills. She actually teaches you; what I learned in her class got me an internship and two fulltime offers. This class was worth it.
Professor Geck is super kind and really cares about her students. You can tell she wants everyone to succeed, and she's always available if you need help. Her classes are super engaging, filled with activities and interesting discussions. You actually want to participate! Her passion for teaching makes a huge difference. Highly recommended!
She is a great person and cares. If you are just getting involved in business, this class would be HUGE in helping you learn networking, resumes, cover letters, etc. She teaches stuff that actually matters, HOWEVER, the course is a lot of work. tons of presentations, more than other profs. Not an easy A but worth it if you actually want to learn.
Avoid her!!! You will get a good grade if she likes you. When I asked early in the semester if I was participating enough, she said it was too early to tell. When I followed up later, she said I should've asked earlier. Her feedback is vague and unhelpful. Overall, she's very frustrating and not a good professor.
For a comms teacher, she doesn't communicate expectations—expect to visit OH to tease out details about the assignments you would've never known if you hadn't gone through that extra step. Her favoritism and strict grading made the class unnecessarily challenging. While she is passionate about the subject, the overall experience was frustrating.
One of my favorite classes so far at USC. I've learned so much and even got an internship because of her support and guidance! It's a hard class but worth it. Honestly, the comments below sound like people who don't want to be held accountable for being a college student.
Stacy is the best professor I've had at USC. She is truly inspiring and the professor I've always dreamed of having in college. She deeply cares about her students and pushes them to reach their potential. I will apply the lessons I've learned in her class for the rest of my life. I'm beyond grateful to have had her as my professor this semester.
She's one of my favorite professors at USC. She's very caring and is always willing to help. She is a tough grader and has high expectations. As long as you keep up with the work, readings, and participate; you should be able to get a good grade. The class average is a B+, but apparently if she likes you, you'll get an A.
Geck is an engaging professor, though her class can be tedious at times. Lots of group work, but if you stay on top of things, it's manageable. Unstuck ai was a lifesaver for exam prep.
Stacy is a good professor overall, but she is not straightforward about the way she grades. She is also not understanding about missing class even if you are sick. Your grade is primarily made up of group projects, which are not bad, but there is just a lot of unnecessary busy work.
pissssed, got a B+ and i've never put so much effort into a class. gonna strike this class
Stacy is literally the best! She's super invested in helping everyone in BUAD 302 level up their professional game. She actually cares about our success and pushes us to be better while being super supportive. Her class has helped me feel way more confident about presenting and interviewing. One of the most useful classes I've taken!
Stacy is great but she's a tough grader. Keep on top of assignments and turn everything in on time. The group projects can suck if you have a bad team, but overall the class is manageable. The midterm and final exams are super short and all multiple choice and the bigger grades in the class are presentations in the ELC.
Make sure to communicate/rehearse a lot with group members for the many group presentations in this class to ensure a good grade, as presentations are 50% of your grade.
She teaches communication but doesn't know how to communicate. No rubric for presentations and she gave grades based on if she likes you. Grades are impacted heavily by group project which she assigned randomly of group members. If you in the group that doesn't perform well good luck to you. There are many good 302 professors, avoid taking her.
Most of the course is graded on presentations, and she grades harshly. Does not provide a rubric beforehand for how you will be graded and gives extremely vague answers when asked questions. Participation is very important (grades given for attending office hours), and grades depend on whether she likes you. Recommend another professor for 302.
Stacy is amazing! She actually cares about her students and is always available to help. I was struggling to find an internship and she helped me with my resume and gave great networking advice. I got the internship and it's totally because of her help! She responds to emails quickly. 100% recommend!
Hands down one of the best professors I've had at this school. She actually cares about her students. I've seen her stay past her class multiple times just to help students. What I love most is that she remembers everyone's names and actually asks how you're doing. She makes you want to work hard because you know she's invested in your success.
Stacy is not the best professor. Unrealistic expectations for all assignments/presentations and she will not give you a grade above a 90% if you do not go to office hours (even if it follows rubric perfectly). It brings her joy seeing students anxious and stressed. You will be forced to become a better speaker but at what cost?
One of the most challenging courses I have taken at USC but the most rewarding. Stacy pushes everyone and genuinely wants everyone to be the best they can be. If you want an easy A, this class is not for you. However, considering how much I have grown as a communicator and presenter, I would say that that doesn't matter.
Stacy Geck is incredibly detail-oriented, going into every aspect of professional presentation, even the most minor details, which really add up. I really appreciate that she teaches not just the course material but also how to present yourself properly in life. She is very supportive, very understanding, and a great woman above all else.
Genuinely one of the worst classes ever. This class has the most unrealistic expectations, and it is because Stacy thinks she knows all. She gave contradictory feedback and is not open minded so it's hard to improve. The tests are Connect Online and they are genuinely the most things ever.
Geck is by far the worst professor I've had at USC. For example, she preaches using VMock/Career Center, yet I proactively used both and still got a poor grade on career assignments with little/confusing feedback. Meanwhile, peers who ignored those resources scored higher. Grading feels arbitrary, based on her mood/preferences, not logic.STAY AWAY!
Prof Geck is really good I don't know why people complain. Yeah there's work but it's USC Marshall - standards are real. She's preparing you for actual business success. Her feedback is super helpful. She's approachable if you try. Go to office hours for help. Best prof I've had, people just don't want to put in effort for a top b-school.
Marshall has plenty of professors who actually care about their students. This was not one of those classes... Office hours were at 8am and attendance was graded, and if you couldn't make them, she pushed for even earlier times (she once asked me to meet at 6:30am on a MONDAY)
TAKE ANOTHER 302 PROFESSOR!! Every single positive review is written by the professor! She is literally OBSESSED with how she is perceived and does not care about her students at all.
BE WARE!! EVERY POSITIVE NOTE IS JUST WRITTEN BY CHATGPT BY THE PROFESSOR HERSELF lololol she is funny
According to Stacy Geck she isnt even an A+ presenter so none of her students deserve that grade... that says everything you need to know about how she grades. She will literally not give you feedback even if you beg her
She literally gives all of her student the same copy and paste feedback and does not watch any of the presentations
Be ready to do so much work that is genuinely perfect and then have your grades not reflect that at all. She pretends she is helping you with her advice when you ask for it and then when you improve in the exact ways, it doesn't matter.
Class greatly prepares you on how to land an internship and be a successful business professional after graduation. Majority presentations and make sure to practice them as she grades toughly on them. Overall great and caring professor!
This professor has unrealistic expectations. I am a student who has a much higher GPA than a B+ range, and this professor grades using contradictory comments, generalized feedback, and oblivious awareness. Do not take this class unless there is no other option.
I'm glad I took Stacy's class. I got my internship because of her guidance.
There are much better 302 professors in marshall - avoid at all costs
I just got my first B ever in college... She literally writes every single positive comment (learn from me)
She banned the phrase "guys" in our presentations - no "Thanks guys" or "Hi guys" -- she will literally rant and project all of her political opinions onto you and if you disagree then your cooked
The final is literally randomized, she does not teach this class seriously, listen to the other comments
Avoid at all costs
Inconsistent and odd grading. No clue how she gets away with it. Avoid at all costs. The final is literally not standardized for the whole class so people could get lucky and get the easiest questions.
I think it's worth noting that while she most of the reviews below are true she was really nice to me and even though she was an extremely tough grader and a lot of the time didn't give us feedback, I had a great time in her class.
Her grading is so subjective and her feedback isn't helpful. Did not want her opinion but participation is required so I had to go out of my way anyways (which still got me a B+)
I'm comfortable with public speaking, working in teams, and showed effort consistently throughout the semester by raising my hand and attending office hours and still ended up with a B participation grade.
This class was not easy to do well in even when you put in a lot of time and effort.
This professor has AI-written feedback. I am serious, she literally uses AI to send emails and give feedback. This class is 50%+ group projects, making it even harder to do well even if you are trying. Avoid this class at all costs if you care about your GPA
Do not take her if you care about your mental health and fairness. She grades students subjectively and on different standards. Also just generally unhelpful advice. No idea how the department lets her teach at USC
As much as I wanted to love her for her funny personality and interesting lectures, her blatant favoritism and passive-aggressiveness towards students is simply appalling. Don't ruin your semester by taking this class on the gamble that you'll be on her good side. (seriously, take a different professor)
She writes her own positive reviews, go take a look! (no one talks like that)
Wow, it's truly shocking that she has any 5 star reviews. I'm almost 100% sure they are self reviews. She has minimal feedback besides generic cookie cutter advice. Most of the time her feedback is contradictory anyways.
Writing this to agree with everyone else
She literally writes all of the positive reviews herself — she does not care about her students
Not sure why people are so mad—if you actually do the work, the class is fine. I did well and her advice helped me feel way more confident.
Somehow this class is harder than 311… HOW
Wish I would've waited to take a different 302 professor — the others are much better
