She's awesome! Best Gen. Chem teacher!
Best teacher ever!! I love her!!
She's great. Keeps the energy going, so you don't fall asleep. I actually understood chemistry with her. Best gen chem prof ever!
I only had her for a week while she filled in for my chem. prof. but she was awesome. She was so energetic and she made me feel like I was really learning.

top 3 teachers i have ever had
She is a really hard teacher. We do not think alike at all. She is helpful though- when you are failing. I should know.
Very challenging. I enjoyed her class and feel she is an excellent professor. Fun to hang around with too.
Really tough, but definitely an excellent teacher. Interesting, and explains well. Great for a student who learns best from lectures.
O'Reilly was the best experience of Freshman year! She is hilarious and energetic in class. SHe explains very well, and is always willing to help outside of lecture and explain in an alternate way. Her exams are very tough though! Overall, she is wonderful...and she is cute for you boys!
great prof!
great prof!
tough exams, but a very fair teacher. everything on the exams was covered in class. very energetic teaching style which makes it easy to stay awake in class. i suggest taking her. great teacher, you will learn a lot.
Exams are unbelievable.... SO HARD!!! What does it tell you if the class average after midterm is a 72%?
An inspiring professor, take O'Reilly if you want to work hard but learn alot and have an awesome professor. If you just want an easy A, or a lecture you don't have to go to, she's not the right teacher, but if you want to learn, take her.
She is a wonderful teacher, but her tests are beastly. She is a great person, but if you are looking for an easy A, don't take her class. If you haven't taken Chem before, take her because you will learn a LOT for other Chem classes in the future. If you have taken AP Chem in high school, don't take her take someone else.
The best gen chem professor.
She's tough. Her tests are even harder. Don't take her if you are a slow learner or have only 1 year of chemistry from high school. She moves extremely quickly and a good teacher only if you have a strong chemistry background.
An excellent teacher, probably the best at Butler. She'll go out of her way to help you succeed in her class. But be warned: you have to study a great deal to be successful in her class. But, if you want to learn a ton and be prepared for future chem classes, she's the right professor to take
You can definitely learn a lot in this class. her tests are hard so if you prep everyday for her test you should be fine. make sure to do the hardest possible integrative exercises in the textbook so your ready for those one or two hard questions she puts on every test.
Amazing professor. She explains difficult topics very well and will keep you entertained for 50 minutes every day. Tests are very difficult, though, if you are not used to problems that are not straightforward.
I had to withdraw from the course because I couldn't stand her teaching style: intense and fast. I would find myself far behind on notes and thus not clearly understanding the material. She has a very great personality and is great about seeing what she can do to help. She just wasn't the professor for me...
Fast and loud. She doesn't stop to help. Exams are difficult.
She is the MOST intense lecturer I have ever had and one of the most energetic. Inorganic really changed a lot of the way I thought about Chemistry. The class was not all about tests; we had to write a paper (which she graded really strict on english!) and do 1/2 hw problem. She is helpful in office. TAKE HER!
Inorganic is different, but Dr. O'Reilly is the best professor I've ever had. Listen to her lectures, take the notes, you will be absolutely fine. She takes the highest grade and take 10 from that to have her A-range. VERY INSPIRING TEACHER.
Energetic and intense at lecture. The material is incredibly interesting. This course changed my career path to organometallics. I always felt like I was missing something in my notes whenever I attempted the hw and looked back. Tests are take home. Literature assignments are a pain but she gets you thinking differently.
O'Reilly is a great professor. She doesn't use the textbook a lot; she just gives us review problems to do from the book. Her lectures make sense and she is super energetic and funny. Usually, her tests are not that hard as long as you listened in class and understand how to do a few accumulative problems.
I have O'Reilly for Gen. Chem. She's a great lecturer, but her tests are unbelievably hard compared to other teachers, especially Kirsch and Lieb. If you need help, she will definitely give it to you. That said, you really need to stay on top of your game to receive an A or B in the class. Take Kirsch, O'Reilly's tests aren't worth your grade.
O'Reilly is an excellent teacher; very enthusiastic about her material! She is extremely helpful outside of class. She returns tests the next day, always a plus! Unfortunately those tests are more difficult than those of your average Gen Chem course...
Excellent teacher. More difficult than other Gen. Chem teachers but worth it in my opinion. She's very willing to help but you definitely have to work for your grade. Exams are difficult. I felt extremely prepared after taking her class.
O'Reilly is a great teacher you will learn a lot in her class. She is very helpful with office hours and review sessions. Her tests are extremely difficult but if you put a lot of work passable. If you can finish the class you will have better knowledge than with other gen chem teachers.
O'Reilly was a really sweet, funny, energetic women who was approachable in any situation. The test were difficult but with any outside work you will do fine.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
She is so helpful! Her tests are rather hard though
O'Reilly is absolutely fantastic! She really cares about her students. Tries to keep you motivated at much as she can. She really helps with review sessions and answers emails pretty fast! Her exams are hard but not too difficult as long as you study and you do the book work that she assigns. I highly recommend taking her!
She is a fun person and I really enjoyed going to her class. Her tests are very hard so do not take ANY of them lightly! As long as you go through the chapters in the book and do the problems, you will do just fine. Also always attend her review sessions!
Amazing professor! Actually cares and is willing to do anything to help.
Always willing to help. She's incredibly funny/goofy but still a fairly difficult professor. No mandatory homework, but tests are pretty much the only determination of your grade.
Dr. O'Reilly is a great professor and she actually cares about each of her students. She teaches very well which makes up for her somewhat difficult tests. She is very straight forward and willing to help any student. She does not teach CH106 but highly recommend her for 105!
I absolutely loved Dr. O'Reilly! Looking at the other comments, it's clear that she's a tough professor. However, I had a substantial chemistry background and was able to follow along the class with ease. Her personality is a 10, no question. Take notes, complete the past tests she posts online, and attend the review session to succeed.
O'Reilly has the hardest tests of all the Gen Chem professors but it is worth it! She is absolutely hilarious. I am not a fan of chemistry and she made me want to go to lecture. Its a lot harder to get an A in her class, but if you have to take extensive chemistry for your major, youll be glad you took her class in the long run.
Absolutely love O'Reilly! Great professor and is really willing to help you understand the material. Hardest tests though. IF YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO TAKE CHEM FOR YOUR MAJOR DO NOT TAKE IT! Overall, she's my favorite professor, but its not worth the C- or D in the class for the tests. Unless you're really confident in chem take another professor
Yes, her tests are hard, but if you have a decent chemistry background and need it for your major, O'Reilly is your best choice. There's no choice but to really learn the material if you want to do well. She's willing to help and very approachable. Lectures are fast but funny and interesting.
ALL HAIL DR. O'REILLY! Fantastic woman. Very approachable after lecture or during office hours, or even during lecture when you have questions. She really wants that you succeed. Having a strong chem background, the class is not hard for me at all. Tests are harder than those of other CH 105 profs, but she also prepares you the best for o'chem.
Really great personality and totally approachable. She explains things well, but goes pretty quickly. The exams were some of the hardest I ever did, much harder than the homework (which is not mandatory, but do it ALL to pass!). She'll give you a great foundation if you're a chem major and will be taking Ochem later. Otherwise, take an easier prof.
Such a helpful professor. She's there for you anytime. I would definitely take another class of hers.
Dr. O'Reilly is genuinely enthusiastic about chemistry and wants to make the class as enjoyable as possible. However, if you're looking for the easy A.. STAY AWAY! O'Reilly is a great instructor, but her tests are far more difficult than the other chemistry profs, which was incredibly frustrating. If you are up for a challenge, take O'Reilly!
O'Reilly is an excellent professor for gen chem. She's extremely enthusiastic, realistic, and helpful. She knows how busy her students are and makes sure we know exactly what will be on the quizzes and tests. But if you're looking for an easy A, don't take O'Reilly. Her tests are HARD. But you will learn the material really really well!
she is an extremely helpful professor but her test are the hardest things i have ever taken.
Tests are very tough, but if you want to understand chemistry she gives the best lectures. She is more worried about you understanding the concept than getting the right answer, including in Lab. Beyond helpful and she has review sessions before exams. The course is challenging, but worth it. Best science lecturer I have ever had.
O'Reilly is a great person, and I heard for Gen Chem that she is a great professor. However, her Inorganic class was brutal. Her lectures have no structure that can be followed, and she doesn't do a great job at answering questions and explaining. Tests are way too hard for what was lectured, and her strict grading doesn't have merit. Tough class.
I adored O'Reilly. Not only is she an amazing lecturer, she is always ready to help. You have to work for a good grade, but she is always there for you to help you understand. Best lectures I've ever had. Make sure to attend pre-exam review sessions for extra help, and never be afraid to ask questions. She's the best!
Dr. O'Reilly really cares about her students and their well being, if you go to her for help she will gladly help you and work with you until you really understand the topic. Yes, her tests are very very hard and you have to study a lot but she is a great lecturer and really knows what she is talking about. Very energetic and spunky.
Dr. O'Reilly is probably the best professor I have had at Butler. She is always willing to help by hosting multiple review sessions. Her tests are tough but you will know the material really well. If you study, you will get an A. She is freaking hilarious too! She can't live without coffee so she's always energetic. Take her class! Chem Goddess.
Dr. O'Reilly is my favorite teacher and I became a chem major bc of her class. She's energetic and really cares about her students and chem. This is not an easy class but if you're looking to learn the material well it's ideal. You will finish knowing more chem than any other section. Her tests teach u how to study and she wants to see you succeed
O'Reily is an awesome professor. She makes you learn the material better than most teachers and will test you harder than most teachers, but if you want to do well in other classes that is good. Her tests are manageable so don't stress out too much when you study for them.
Dr. O'Reilly was the toughest professor I've had but I loved that class. It wasn't until the 3rd exam that I was able to rise to her level but it felt great when I did. She made me work harder than any professor but after taking her class I feel like I can make it through anything. She is always there to help and wants you to do well. loved her!
She is an amazing lecturer, she really makes sure she gets her point across. Her tests are hard, you really have to know your stuff and know the reasoning behind all of the concepts you learn in class. Still and amazing professor even though she can be hard at times, it is definitely worth it. You get out of it what you put into it.
She is so scatter brained. She cannot talk about one thing for more than 30 seconds before switching to something completely unrelated. She runs around the classroom too which is annoying. She is a very tough grader and its hard to study for tests because there is so much material on each test.
Dr. O'Reilly is an interesting one. She has a hard shell but really is passionate, informed, and great at what she does. She lectures very well but also has pretty difficult tests. She holds review sessions before every exam and will answer really any question. I recommend looking at the book questions to aid with preparation. Talk to her too!
Professor O'Reilly is amazing at getting her point across and lectures go by quickly because of how energetic she is. Her tests are definitely very challenging and getting an A in the class needs to be earned. She does really care about her student's learning though and helps in almost any way she can.
One of my favorite teachers of all time. She lectures well, cares about her students, and really tries to get to know them in lab. Her tests are harder than most other gen chem professors', but it's not a problem because she is a great teacher. If you really want to learn, take her. She is the best. Protip: she doesn't use MasteringChemistry.
O'Reilly is hard, but fair. If you work hard, you will get a good grade. She makes the work hard so that you know the material better, not to make you suffer. She cares about her students. If you're the type of person looking for a fair challenge, she is the perfect choice. If you want to breeze through Gen. Chem., I'd suggest looking elsewhere.
Dr. O'Reilly is a fantastic lecturer, professor, and person. She is fantastic at explaining chemistry and is very passionate about it. That being said her 3 exams this semester were quite challenging, and much more difficult than other professors. I love O'Reilly and her class, but the tests were hard. You will get the grade you deserve.
She is hilarious, tests are hard so study and look at the example tests she posts online
Dr. O'Reilly is one of the most caring professors I have met. She really gets to know her students and their strengths and weaknesses. She is always eager to help you outside of class. She has tough tests but gives partial credit and will always help you out when you need it. I wish she could teach all my chemistry classes.
I really like Dr. O'Reilly because she is hilarious, willing to help students, and incredibly knowledgeable. That being said, I will not be taking her again because her class, particularly exams, requires immense study time. If you have a heavy course load, do not take her because studying for chemistry will take up most of your time. Good prof tho
Dr. OReilly is an amazing person and a very good professor, although she is tough. She is always energetic and helpful inside and outside of class. Her class is difficult and you will need to study a lot. I would strongly recommend taking an upper level class from her, it may be a hard adjustment for some to take her first semester of college.
Dr. O'Reilly is SUCH an awesome person. She is so funny and witty. She is a very good prof and expects a lot from her students. With that being said, she grades very tough. If you put in a lot of effort I am sure you will do fine, but this is NOT a class you can slack off in. She prepares you well for O Chem.
O'Reilly is a great teacher that is very passionate about the subject. She wants her students to do well, but for them also to work for the grade they deserve. She is not the easiest gen chem teacher but will better prepare you for ochem and more science classes in the future. She does study sessions before exams and usually posts previous tests.
O'Reilly give the best lectures! Hilarious, caring, and very energetic lady. She is a tough (but fair) grader and the class is test heavy. Here's the breakdown: three exams (50% of total grade), a final exam (25%), homework/quizzes (20%), and lab (5%). Do ALL the optional work and you'll do well. *dont buy the online access code she doesnt use it*
O'Reilly is a great lecturer but she is very unapproachable during her office hours and her tests are ridiculously difficult. You will learn and understand the chemistry concepts but your grade will not reflect what you know. I recommend her if you want a serious challenge but chemistry is already difficult in college as is.
I struggled A LOT with her tests but she is very willing to help you succeed if you put in the work. I would say doing the book problems are a must, but just be prepared that the test material is going to be 10x more difficult. In the end I am very glad that I put myself through her class because she prepared me for ochem very well!!!
OReilly is my favorite professor by far. She is the kindest, most sweetest person I have ever met and is so willing to help you. I know a lot of people struggle with her tests but if you do the textbook problems from each chapter, you will be absolutely fine. Her tests arent harder than the book questions. Just prepare and you will do well!
Dr. O'Reilly is very knowledgable and shows it. She comes across as hardcore and appears to not care about her student's success. She teaches things harder than they need to be and purposely makes her tests tricky for students who aren't advanced with chemistry. She is very loud and intense during lecture and encourages you to use book problems.
Dr. O Reilly was an amazing professor. She was very lecture heavy and every class period was ONLY lectures, no worksheets or quizzes. Graded solely on 3 exams and a final, you had to WORK for an A. Recommend if you already took AP Chem, she goes at a kinda fast pace but material is understandable. I recommend reading the book and studying HARD
I loved Dr. O'Reilly. Even though chem was hard, I learned the material really well from her. Make sure to do optionally assigned problems, they will help you on tests! I wish I could have taken her for CH106
I had her for the lab portion and she was great! She was super helpful and understanding. She was happy to teach and explain things and could easily be reached outside of class.
I had her for lab and enjoyed talking to her. The labs were written by her so she expects them to be perfect. She reads everything in your notebook so sig figs and units are extremely important because she will take points off. I would not take her for lab but she would be fun to have lunch with.
She makes everything confusing for absolutely no reason. All of her answer keys are very messy as well as the lectures making topics difficult to understand. She often cuts corners without explaining why, which leaves students very confused. Tests are much harder than homework and it is overall a difficult class.
Dr. O'Reilly can be a bit intimidating at first but is really nice and hilarious! Her class is pretty difficult but if you reach out for help she is more than willing too. She goes pretty fast so definitely be on your toes. O'Reilly is and awesome teacher and will give you a great foundation for further chem classes.
She is a wonderful person, however, that doesn't mean she is a wonderful teacher. Class is only lecture and she goes very quick. She expects you to pick up concepts quickly with little explanation. If you don't know chem very well, DO NOT take a lecture with her. Exams are basically everything, so if you fail it is over for you.
I had Dr. O'Reilly for CH 105 Lab and I absolutely loved her! She explained the procedure to every experiment before we started, and was more than willing to assist during the lab. She was very good at responding to emails quickly to answer any questions as well. I felt like she graded fairly, and wasn't too harsh most of the time.
She doesn't really like to be helpful. Sometimes when you ask questions, she looks at you like you're stupid because you aren't a Ph.D. in chemistry. She won't let you turn in things if she's graded it, even if she helped you with it and you forgot to turn a separate paper in too. She just seems like if you aren't good at chem, she doesn't care.
Amazing Professor please take from her if you can
Once you meet her, you'll know you have the right professor. Her classes may not always be easy, but you know you'll always have the support to get through them. Many of the professors in Butler's chemistry department are fantastic and she is definitely one of them.
Very well spoken and passionately teaches. She is funny as well. You can tell she cares about her job and she wants you to succeed
O'Reilly is a difficult grader, but she is also a great lecture professor to have. The course is designed to be difficult to weed students out, but she clearly shares test dates, gives lots of practice problems, and has review sessions to ask extra questions and walk through how to do certain problems. Great metaphors to help understand concepts.
Dr. O'Reilly is tough no doubt about it but chemistry in general is a hard concept. She truly cares about her students learning and is easily accessible for questions during lecture and outside of class. She hosts exam review and problem review sessions so don't be afraid to ask questions. Textbook is online. She also makes lecture very fun. Great!
Dr. O'Reilly is an amazing professor, but has very difficult exams.
She was very caring. Her tests are very, very, very difficult, but if you listen in the lecture, it is doable.
She is a great teacher with great humor. She always broke things down into very simple terms in her office hours. I love O'Reilly!
Amazing Teacher. Super Entertaining. She even dances for you when you learn about the phase changes. She keeps her lectures engaging. I cannot say enough about her and her class. She truly cares about you. She is fun to mess with so you do not have to be so serious and professional around her.
O'Reilly was a very nice professor. Lectures are entertaining. However, when you come to the tests you think you are ready but trust me you wont be. Her tests are extremely hard. There is some homework but it is barely worth any of your grade. Do not take O'Reilly if you are a bad test taker. Take her lab she is fun.
Dr. O'Reilly was one of the best professors I've ever had. Adjusting from high school chem to CH105 was a challenge--and Dr. O'Reilly didn't make it easy--but I have never learned so much from a professor as I did from her. She makes the most hilariously dry jokes and is sarcastic beyond measure, and I looked forward to each lecture.
Sometimes this class was really difficult, but she is super fair on grading and wants students to do well. She is hilarious.
O'Reilly is very good at teaching, however she genuinely doesn't seem like she cares about students or their grades at all. Her tests are incredibly difficult and don't match the level of mastery taught in class. She always seems irritated when we ask questions or go to office hours. She has nice moments but overall she is a mean person.
Don't take Dr. O'Reilly if a) you are a bad test-taker b) you get scared when someone yells at you and c) you cry easily. Maybe I'm being dramatic, but seriously Dr. O'Reilly isn't a great professor and it just doesn't seem like she ever wants to be there or help you.
The content feels crazy sometimes and the tests are difficult, but some will find inorganic chem very interesting. Take if you liked gen chem and want to learn a variety of topics outside what you learn in other classes. She makes the difficult concepts a lot more digestible and amusing.
Dr. O'Reilly is great for gen chem, especially if you are taking higher levels of chem like organic/biochem because she prepares you well. Her tests are hard but she gives you PLENTY of materials to prepare for them as well as SEVERAL office hours/review sessions. She is also so fun in lecture and truly cares about her students' success/well being.
Dr. O'Reilly is a good person but I do not learn from her. her class is not organized and her keys are very messy and all over the place. her exams are not like homework or lectures. exam averages were ~60%. she does make lectures fun and has many review sessions but her exams are unrealistic. is rude and doesnt take accountability for her mistakes
Dr. O'Reilly writes unbelievably hard tests. I'm not a bad test taker and would study a lot, but even with that I would do poorly on her tests. Aside from that, she can be quite disorganized which makes it hard to study/review material. Do not recommend for those who struggle with chem as a subject overall.
She was very rude with incredibly difficult exams. If you ask her for help if you aren't doing well in the class, she will call you stupid and ask you if you even pay attention. I am a CH major and I dread the idea of having to have her for another course. She has made me want to switch majors and I would do everything to never have her again.
i would avoid her at all costs, i used to love chemistry now the class just makes me want to cry all the time.
Dr. O'Reilly was an okay professor. She struggled a bit to engage students, often misunderstanding the questions people would ask and then move on. She was a bit hard to talk to, but was very nice during office hours. I would definitely suggest going to office hours, as it can be easier to get a response from her.
Great person and teacher. Only take her if you have a solid background in chem. It is lot of work. Tests are hard, but doable if you pay attention to the hw and take your time with it. Go to office hours for help, even if you don't need to. If you are smart and also work for it, she will respect you and is very helpful.
tests r really really hard
The tests are EXTREMELY hard. She is very passive aggressive and does not offer any opportunity for extra credit or retakes. She gets mad when you ask questions and prepare to be on your own in lab with little to no help from her. BEWARE!
She did a great job at explaining complicated material relatively quickly. I would not recommend this class if you don't have a rudimentary understanding of chemistry. You will need to put in some effort, but her homework makes it easy to understand.
Dr. O'Reilly runs a tough but rewarding class. Exams are challenging, but she makes lectures fun and is always willing to help. Unstuck study was a great study tool alongside the online textbook.
Dr. O'Reilly genuinely cares about your success and wellbeing as long as you work hard. Yes, she is a hard grader and gives you lots of work but it's for your own good. She gives tons of practice, and review sessions, and is very accessible during office hours so take advantage of that. Labs are the worst tho...
She is the best possible professor if you really love chemistry. If you just want to be savvy enough to get a good grade on the MCAT or DAT or any other pre-med exam, don't take her classes. That said, if you're a chemistry major because you want to be a chemist, she's your girl. Be warned: her exams are hard. She's also fun and has MILF energy.
Dr. O'Reilly was a great professor who was always open to questions and explained each concept thoroughly. The course was a great recap from AP chem in high school and definitely prepared me for future chemistry courses. Great professor overall!
Dr. O'Reilly is my favorite professor at Butler! She truly cares about each student and will work with you to solve problems. She knows how to help you understand these topics and will correct your thinking so that you won't continue to struggle. Tests were challenging but she is a fair grader and gives countless chances to earn back points.
Dr. O'Reilly is hilarious and very knowledgeable! She cares about her students and making her lectures interesting. She is super clear on due dates and grading criteria and I would 100% recommend her for everything. The class is literally AP Chem 2.0, so not too difficult.
O'Reilly is a great teacher. She goes pretty fast in lecture but really knows what she's talking about. I I definitely encourage going to office hours if you're struggling. It's scary at first but she is really helpful. She is also good at connecting chemistry to biology, if that's something you need.
Dr. O'Reilly is very good at teaching. You can tell she knows her stuff and is passionate about it. She is not passionate about her students. Her exams are unnecessarily hard and her answer keys for assignments are often wrong, making checking your work frustrating. She isn't consistent in her grading and overall isn't that nice.
Dr O'Reilly is a very passionate professor who gives great lectures. She provides good study resources for exams and is helpful in office hours. However, she is a harsh grader and takes off several points for small exam errors. Other problems include grading multiple students differently for making the same error/grading tests incorrectly.
Dr. O'Reilly knows her stuff WELL. She makes the lectures pretty entertaining and her wisdom makes them make more sense than other teachers. Her tests however are super hard and the keys aren't always accurate which can be frustrating. Overall she is a good teacher and helps when needed and is good at responding to emails. Curve at the end helped!
