He really gets into what he's teaching. It's great when he "acts" out the emotions of the people we're talking about. His class required a lot of reading and thinking "outside the box" but it's a fun one.

This class is hilariously easy if you take good notes in class. Try to write it all down and you'll never have to read anything. He's a really smart guy but just isn't good at conveying what he knows in a way that is easy to understand for people learning the material for the first time. Very intelligent, just has zero people skills.

I LOVE PROF. KNAP! best teacher I have ever had. He really changed my mind on so many things. As long as you follow his study guide and do the readings you will get an A. This class is fascinating and wonderful. I wish I could take it again and again. 10/10 would recommend.

I have taken a couple classes from knap and I am so glad I have had the honor to do so. He is brilliant and I have so much respect for this man. THIS CLASS CHANGED MY LIFE! such a good marriage and family class. There is a bit of reading to do but it is interesting and he goes over it again with you in class discussions. TAKE THIS CLASS

honestly worst class I have ever taken and it was REQUIRED and he was the only prof that teaches it. I cried myself to sleep many times because of his class. Godspeed, my friends.

Okay I was terrified going into this class. I heard it was the hardest class in the major and that he was not a good teacher. But y'all... it really was not that bad! Do the readings, go to all of the TA reviews and rely on your study group (he requires one). Mine SAVED me! I made great friends in this class & learned so much. Do not be scared!!

Professor Knapp is clearly very good at what he does. The difficulty is that his own lexicon, traditional philosophic vernacular and the average Sociology student's is that they only very briefly overlap in the Reuleaux area of "a, an, the, it, and, perhaps, unfortunately". It would be nice to hear more layman's terms.

He seems like a genuinely sweet guy, but his teaching style is extremely difficult to adjust to. He has power points but rarely gets through the whole thing and never really explains what the slide has to do with what he is saying. This class is required for my major and I am very very much stressed about it. Again, great guy, hard professor

Class can get boring, he tends to give long-winded answers to short questions. Readings are heavy. You read Anna Karenina (700+ pages) in two weeks, but I just listened to the audiobook on 2x. The exams are mostly essays, sometimes with a MC section. Really passionate and cares about his students, will find ways to boost your grade.

Bro I have no idea why his ratings are so low. Dr. Knapp is amazing and so passionate about what he teaches. There's definitely hard stuff to understand, but it's really not that bad. He can use a lot of big words sometimes, but don't let that intimidate you. Knapp is awesome!

I heard horror stories going in, but this class was very interesting. Dr. Knapp can be long-winded, but I wonder if that is partially due to the complex course material. (This is the only required theory class for SOC majors.) The university obviously chose the lone conservative in the dept to teach Marx & Durkheim, as expected, but he does fine.

Lectures were confusing and reading was long. Slides were very text-heavy and unclear. Responds to questions in a very confusing way too. Exams were long and essay-heavy. Lots of reading assigned for homework and mandatory study groups.

This teacher is incredibly unhelpful. Super confusing, and gives almost zero helpful feedback. Also gives zero study guide or actual helpful ways to study for the tests. Wish he had offered defintions or video links Top recommendations: read the textbook, get a good study group, use the TA, meet with the professor one on one,and do all extra credit.

His classes taught me not only about sociological theory but also what it means to be a thoughtful scholar and a good person. I loved his lectures and how his class taught us to be open minded and to see the value in different perspectives and theories. Professor Knapp genuinely cares about his students and treats them with kindness and respect.
