This guy MIGHT be able to teach but his tests really suck bad! stay away!
Very intelligent, and generally loves to teach.
he gives you the exact test just study it!
STAY AWAY! HE'LL DRIVE YOU CRAZY!!
Prof. Melnick was difficult to work with, and his tests are very challenging, but if you want to learn the material COMPLETELY, then take Melnick. By the way, don't take a short session with him...
tests are killer, very picky and anal-retentive. He WILL drive you crazy, try to take someone else if at all possible.
Everyone thought he was hard but really he's boring and EASY. He gives you the questions before, you just have to be able to spit the answers out. If memorization is your thing and you don't care about understanding take it. If you want to learn DON'T!
This guy acts as if the steel rod in his spine was shoved up through his bum. Not only does he not teach the material clearly, but on the tests (on which you're graded heavily) he nearly expects you to read his mind. Unreasonably difficult.
THIS TEACHER HAS A VERY WEAK METHOD OF TEACHING. HE HAS THE HIGHEST DROP OUT RATIO OF ANY TEACHER I HAVE COME IN CONTACT WITH AND IS NOT VERY RESPONSIVE TO HIS STUDENTS.Ex. A STUDENT ASKED FOR HIS HELP AND HE TOLD HER TO ASK SOMEONE ELSE ! DO NOT TAKE !
this guy sucks! I studied 4 solid hours for 6 straight days and got a D on the test! He is not a good teacher
The classes are pretty much boring, as long a syou take notes and study the questions for the test you should be ok, it is really hard though, you have to be very well behaved
Teacher gives you essay questions before the test, but make sure he doesnt skip around in his lectures, he missed 2 questions on our test. He is very unclear about the multiple choice as well which are 25 % of grade. non gordon rule with tons of writing.
Monotone dictator of notes. Gives you essay questions for tests, but gives NO guidance on detail expected for answer. His dictations contradicted his textbook. DO NOT TAKE. Here's an idea. I've got a 4.0. 4 classes into the semester--I was failing.
OMG!! Not only is he boring, you have to write a lot, and possibly bipolar, but you have a difficult exam every 2 weeks. If you get him DROP THE CLASS! He makes you write down everything he says!
I took Prof. Melnick for U.S. History and got an "A". I enjoyed his teaching style and took World politics and got a "B". YOU EARN YOU GRADE IS HIS CLASS!!! He is very difficult and if you are not willing to make his class you #1 prior
OH MY GOSH! Please do not take him if you want to pass! Exams are impossible. 25 multiple choice, ten short essay questions(have to answer five, but you do not which ones), and one long essay(2 pages in length). Every 2 weeks, in a one hour class!Ifailed!
DO NOT TAKE THIS ****! He sucks sooo bad, you will fail his class even if you are a good student.
Please don't take this class. He's not very good at what he does.
This is your typical "hard" professor. You must pay attention to all lectures and take a ton of notes for the test. Just repeat back the notes on the test and you'll be fine. The tests are long enough to take the whole class if you know what you
No Comments
Extremely Long essay tests that he wants word for word with no variation. He wants more quantity than quality. Highly reccomend that you do not take this guy. Boring!!!!
Teacher is good...knows his material. Gives a lot of lectures, but lectures *are* interesting. Easy class, just follow syllabus.
Man, whatever. He sucks. Please DO NOT take this class, you will only pass with a D if your lucky. He is way outdated and so are his tests. I am and many others retaking this class. DON'T TAKE!!! He needs to retire!!
If you have problems staying awake in classes dont take him. If you get tired of taking notes forever dont take him. If you have any interest in being bored out of your mind then maybe Melnick is your choice.
I agree he's hard, but not impossible. If you do the work you get the grade. He is honest and gives you plenty of chances for points. You realize you get 100 participation points just for coming to class and asking questions?
Melnick's unwilling to work with his students AT ALL. Repeat the notes back to him on the test and you'll do ok on them. You will take a min. of 8 pages of notes per class(3hr)- and u need to memorize them for test. No quizzes. Lots of work.Knows material
yes,he is a very hard teacher and if you do not pay attention or read the chapters you will fail...but in the long run he just enjoys greatly what he does and he wants he students to come out of the lass learning something.
He is not easy but I really enjoyed his class. I took him for US Gov and Intern Politics. He gives you an outline of the test and you work your butt off. I wrote on average of 8 to 10 pages of essays per test and about 10 to 15 pages of notes each class.
worst teacher alive he should go back to 'nam with his **** attitude
I dropped after the first 50 min!!! Too much work for a NON G Rule course!! He thinks this is the ONLY class you are taking! (ex- write to senator, follow a bill in cong, essay tests) GIMPY AND OLD
He likes people to earn their grade that is all there is to say!
Dr.Melnick only teaches for the present. There is no retention of meaterials taught. You memorize a ton of details and then forget them immediately only to move on to the next test and memorize again. This is the worst class ever.
POS stands for something else to this teacher. He does get strangely excited about working (ESPECIALLY when your doing group work- creepy smile of satisfaction) very hard, very boring, creepy, but doable if your desperate for a passable POS class
I agree his class is a little hard for a non honors/gordon class, but not impossible. The point of school is to learn, and in this class you will. Unless you are a lazy bum and want a teacher to give you a good grade for crappy work.
he is a very very very hard teacher, if u are not prepared to read the whole book and study, then you should not take International politics with him
errrm, errrm, ALL I CAN SAY IS HELL NO !!!!!! TAKE SOMEONE ELSE
If you want to know International Politics, this is the course to take. He will challenge you to earn your grade. Getting an A in this course will be the greatest feeling of accomplishment. Well deserved and earned. Know your definitions and essays.
this class is VERY hard but not impossiable. he makes you do alot of writing but he gives you the essay questions for the test before each chap. he does think that this is the only class you have. its a lot of work but hang in there. u will feel great
Dr. Melnick is very demanding. His U.S. Gov class consist of lots of reading lots of homework and his test are 5 to 6 pages long. You will learn but you have to work your butt off to get an A
He is VERY ambiguous about test material. His lectures are from the book and anything that he adds to it is very incoherent and irrelevant. He knows a lot but he doesn't know how to relate that to his students.
GREAT TEACHER...don't be a slacker!!
THe grading of his tests were ridiculous. I have always excellent in US History / Government and had to drop the class because I would study for hours and still failed his exams.
I think this class sucks. He reads the entire clas period while you write the entire time. Test are to hard and too much memorization in a very little study time. CRAPPY TEACHER.
very demanding and equally as rewarding. not an easy a,b, or c...you will learn or fail. love this old dude! life is work...so should be learning about life...
Wonderful experience. He loves what he does and will want you to challenge your own personal views about International Law and Procedure. Read, read, and read! Do the extra credit! Come to class! You will SUCCEED!!!!!:)
Melnick is not an easy teacher, but I learned a lot from his classroom and I stayed challenged and interested. Even though his class will give you a headache and a lot of stress, I do not regret the experience I had in his classroom.
Dr. Melnick is a fantastic professor. He will challenge you. There are no Easy A's in this course. If you want to learn, he is the one to teach you. Study. Study. You'll get what you deserve.
This man loves to talk and you will be writing a lot. He gives a lot of homework. Tests are basically memorization of questions he gives you. It can be a lot of info but if you put your mind too it you can do it. If you dont like gov I dont recommend.
He give way too much assignments.... Test is 25 multiple choice, 5 short essay, 1 long essay.
Write this down! This dude is a nut job. Rambles on in his lectures, which are straight from the book. If something isn't from the book, then it's totally irrelevant. His test are insane also.
This class is easy to get an A. He gives you the test questions prior to the test! He covers all the material on them. He challanges your thinking in a very bipartisan manner, which is important in gov. Lots of writing. People who failed this class just didnt study the test questions.
Wonderful Teacher, very passionate about what he teaches. It is a lot of work, but you're not in high school anymore. I learned so much from his class, I highly recommend him.
Probably the best teacher I've come across. I learned a lot in his class. He gives you all the questions and essay topics a couple weeks before the test. He goes over every bit of it in class. If someone failed, it's because they didn't study. Everything was in the notes and book. Totally bipartisan
As long as you do the work, this is an easy class to get an A in. He is very helpful and understanding and very clear. He is extremely knowledgable and made me interested in this course and the content. I highly recommend him.
He does not like to help out on any questions you may have for the tests and he rushes through everything not giving you enough time to get all the info.
If you are extremely interested in the subject matter and have nothing but easy classes, you'll find it a challenge. However, if you have any kind of life, and would like to keep it that way, don't do it. Tests take longer than the 50 mins to complete. Not a 6K word class but it will feel like it
Honest Mel is very knowledgable, but expects entirely too much. if you're the kind of student that enjoys studying for hours on end, you'll get a kick out of this class, but if you aren't a nerd, take someone else.
the first day half of the class withdrew, i stayed and tried to finish but his class way way to hard and by the withdraw date nov.5 there were only 12 people left out of about 30, i withdrew, his class sucked!!
Don't take his class unless your willing to learn on your on and do alot of memorization. He is a funny old man at times but still to boring and hard if you don't want to do much work. All he does is talk in his class.
Those who complained are obiviously lazy students who don't actually want to work OR learn. This class requires you to be prepared, organized and responsible. Those of us who stick it out, find the class eases & tests become easier.
Way to go, VCC needs more like you
VERY INTELLIGENT MAN!! Everyone who complains about him is lazy. It's true, he is hard, but all you have to do is WORK HARD(a foreign concepts to most students today). If you have a geniune desire to learn, he's the one for you. If you don't, then it doens't matter who teaches you, you'll hate it.
Mel - what can I say...He gives you the test questions ahead of time. Yes, it is time consuming to find all the answers and write them out, but if you don't get a good grade on the tests, it's because you didn't study.
If you are interested in political sciences dont take him, he will make you change you mind. You might be able to pass with a B but chances are you will drop after the 4th week. He is not easy and there is a lot of work in his class. Think twice before you lose your money and time.
Grades based on whether you "click" or not. Grades based more on how he likes your anwers/handwriting than how accurate they are. Threatened to gas us at one point, and everything is "annoying as hell".
He thinks that you are only taking his class, because he gives you a lott of hw. He does give you the questions ahead but, be prepaered of the log night hrs of studyng.
Prepare for a lot of work!
Great political science professor. But you better study your a** off. The good thing about him is that he gives you all the possible test questions for every chapter. Just memorize that and study your notes and you will do fine.

I wish I would have known about this site before I took Mr.Melnick's class.Marine Vietnam Veteran...need I say more?He talks the whole class about nothing that relates to the tests, your better off just reading the book.A lot of extra b.s.he obviously has nothing else to do with his life and thinks we don't either. DO NOT TAKE SHMELNICK'S CLASS!!!!!
On the test questions he doesn't recognize the textbook but his own answers/definitions, so take very good notes in class if u want 2 pass. If he asks u 4 definition answer it in his own words, not from the text book cause he'll give 0 points 4 it.Doesn't give u much time when taking the test,I can never answer all questions cause of the time limit
He requires you to really pay attention and study, but he does provide you with what he expects on his tests. Just make sure to listen, when he says a paragraph he means a six or seven line paragraph detailing the subject, not glossing it over. He is a good professor though and willing to talk things over with any interested student
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROSESSOR, HIS TEST ARE RIDICULOUS ESPECIALLY THE MULTIPLE CHOICE, I TOOK HIM AND BOUGHT MY GPA DOWN.
Yes it is a hard class but thats why they call it school not play. You have to pay attention in class and take alot of notes and spend alot of time reading the book and figuring out the study guides but if u stick with it u will pass with an A or B.
great class, great professor, very helpful. he gives all the questions one week before all the exams as well as the final. Is very hard to fail; unless you're absolutely lazy.
I would not recommend this class to anyone. Yes, he gives a study guide, but his exams and work load is too much if this isn't your only course. The semester started with a full class and ended with approx. 5 students, go figure! He's the worst professor I had. I had to retake the course with another prof b/c i failed his class & passed with an A!
The man really knows his stuff. Took his Saturday class. Nice and willing to answer Q's in detail. You can't slide in this class- must read text and study! It's a fantastic class if you want to actually learn government. Test's are pretty hard; be prepared to take copious amounts of notes. Not too bad of a class if you do the work and study.
DO NOT TAKE! I am a student with a 4.0 and his class almost ruined it for me. His test are part mult. choice and part essay. He is extremly bias on essay qusetions he will ask your opion and if he dosen't agree with what you think you will get no points. I also develpoed arthritis writing down notes.
horrible will drop your grade if you have an A it is pointless to even go to class if he did not count attendance. you learn nothing from him and he even says it in order to pass his test he even said you have to read the book twice. and that is the only reason I am passing his class I have had 1 test one day and on the next day another dont take!!
hard class! he never gave the students a chance. we started off with 20 kids and dropped down to 8 and i coudnt take the class anymore and dropped as well!
Do not take, unless you want to be a polititian!! Tests every class! Too much work for a general course class...I got B, but talking to students from other classes - they did not do half of what we did.
his test are half multiple choice and half essay. Alot of the talk in class in pointless. READ THE BOOK he gives you the exam essay questions a wekk befor the test and then he will randomly pick half of them to actually test you on so you better know all of them. I had to work my but off in his class in order to get an A. alot of work
The workload is probably closer to the baccalaureate level. That said, don't be a pansy. You're in college to work and learn and you'll do plenty of both in his class. Good note-taking is important if you plan on passing his class; good studying a must if you'd like something higher than a C.
He is a good really good teacher. He has dry humor but its not horrible. He does't use the book but he gives you all the info you need for the tests. I never read and did perfectly fine on the test. You have all the questions before the tests so you know exactly what is on the test. Make sure to go to class and take notes. I recommend him for gov't
Ok, so I am a straight A student and this class was hard. You can get an A but you must read and take notes in class. Participate. Do your work he assigns and tests are most of your grade so you must study. Lectures are boring, but you can't fall asleep in class. Tests are difficult. But he gives you all the essay questions beforehand (75%)
DO NOT TAKE!!! Hard teacher ...no power point just talks for 3 hours as you write. Work load is crazy and test ...well lets say I dropped the class after i couldn't even answer one question from his "cheat sheet" could not find the material in the book. GOOD LUCK!
Prof.Melnick's class is quite difficult of Political Science is not something you are going to be majoring in. He gives a study guide for the test but if you're taking more than one class the amount or reading thats nessasary may be to much. Almost all of the class time is not taking which is delivered very poorly.I wouldnt reccomned him for anyone
ABORT ABORT. WORST TEACHER EVER!!!!
His class is challenging BUT he gives you the exact exam questions a week or 2 before the exam so you have time to look up the answers. His whole class is lecturing and believe me, he lectures from beginning to end. At times his lectures are dull but he gives us interesting group activities. I would take him again if needed. Slackers will not pass!
This guy grades your written tests by his own opinion if your right or not. He gives you the written response questions a week before which are 10 paragraph responses and two 1 1/2 page responses. You have to know every question because come test time he randomly chooses what questions will be on the test. YOU HAVE TO PAY ATTENTION AND STUDY HARD!
He is the worst teacher in the world. All the good ratings were written by him. how do I know he talks about it in class. He is biased, I had an amazing gpa, but had to drop. He said he won't pass anyone easy. He doesn't give A's because "No one knows the legal system as well as me." he is a dirt bag! NEVER TAKE HIM.
PROFESSOR MELNICK IS A NIGHTMARE SO...IF U CARE ABOUT YOUR EDUCATION PLZZZ STAY AWAY!!! CNT SAY I DIDNT WARNED YOU
You have to work in his class to get a good grade everyone who is lazy just quit of course you have to do work its a class! I dont read at all and i am still passing right now i am in his class with just 6 more days to go. Beware of the notes though you will take plenty of notes but he does allow you to bring your laptop. He has no humor, nice tho
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!! his test are extremely HARD , he grades based on his opinion whether is right or not ,really biased , kind of boring, dont bring book to class he does not use it , and he lectures all class period... there is one term project which is really easy but lots of of work!! I would not recommend him AT ALL!!!
He is hard but makes students work for their grades. You don't see that much at Valencia and all of these ratings indicate. If you want to learn the GOVT take him, if you want an easy A then go somewhere else.
Professor Melnick is a very good and fare teacher. He lectures all class but allows laptops. You must study for his tests and read your book. The book is a must. I would definately take his class again. He makes you work hard for your grade but its very rewarding. If you want an easy A don't take this class.
Not an easy class. The test are way too long to be completed in 50 mins. The only thing that saved was the term project (100%) and the articles! Got a B In his class! Take him at your own risk.
Hardest government teacher at LSCC. The multiple choice on the tests are a horror, because he doesn't not mention them in class. The long answers are extremely biased. I have a good gpa and had to drop. I studied a lot but couldnt get over a 70 on the tests
Worst Teacher i have ever had. A nice guy but very bad at teaching. Ineffective Teaching methods lead to majority of class failure and 70% drop rate. every test you will be writing 3 pages worth of essays, and every class is Lectured. Zero Class discussions.
took him during summer B. wasnt as bad as people claimed him to be. i failed almost every test but ended up with a B in the class. do extra credit & articles!!! take notes in class!! notes are on tests! but he's a good guy :)
the tests are very hard and you really have to studying for them, but if you do, you will pass, the lectures are long but interesting and hold the bulk of the answers to the test questions. He is serious & straight forward, and he expects u to work hard,so if your lazy, u will fail. By the end you will learn a great deal about how our country runs
I took this class over the summer term B. This professor, inadequately did his job. Tests/Quizzes were poorly prepared, and his grading methodology, and the student-teacher communication was extremely lacking. The time alotted was not enough to complete the syllabus determined assignments; when the final grades were put in, he graded incorrectly.
WARNING! DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! His class is REALLY HARD. You will have to read long chapters from the book, write a response paper weekly, and study for the HORRIBLE tests, which are EXTREMELY HARD. You'll have to memorize pages and pages to pass!!!
Test's are extremely hard. Lots of essays and a big project.Classes are only lecture and note taking. He's a nice guy but expects alot.Honestly I learned a lot about US government.
DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE!!! He takes pleasure in failing his students. He is very arrogant and self serving. he lectures with his eyes closed and doesn't stop to teach. very dull. must read every page in the book and tests are two long essay 1.5 page ea., with 20 multi. choice and 3 short essay 1/2 page ea. he shows no mercy and loves to FAIL!!
He structures it so that you have to know his lectures and the text. As long as you take good notes and read the chapters you'll be able to answer the test questions that he gives you at the beginning of each unit. Come test day he'll randomly ask half the question and you'll have to write a fair amount on them. Not much work aside from the project and that's minimal. He gives you every opportunity and knows and care about the subject just make sure this is your style of learning. I got an A.
He doesn't do anything BUT TALK. His notes aren't clear and don't know his thought process of the test is. You need to read the book but then you need to take notes from him in class. He doesn't know what he wants in the end. He thinks everything he's telling you is important -_- don't take this class if you have more going on than jus school.
This guy is the worst professor ever. He is teaching is so bad and quit to fail. I had to drop the class, n half of the people did too. I waste half of the semester in there.Don't take him.
Very hard professor but I have tremendous respect for him. One of the few professors left that truly enjoy teaching. It is a lecture class and you must write down everything he says in order to have a chance at passing his tests. He wants you to understand and actually learn the material to become better US citizens, instead of memorizing the work.
I would only recommend this class to someone who is looking for a challenge and can learn best by just reading the book themselves. All he does is lecture, no notes online, so you have to write a mile a minute to keep up with him. Does not respond to emails and does not take anything late. BTW he WILL call you out if your doing bad in his class
Well this course was so difficult but easy at the same time. The class started with 37 students ended with only 15. Very passionate about his teachings. However, his exams are a killer. if you do not like to write do not take his course. lectures are key to his exams though. and he gives extra credit assignments. would i take him again? hell no.
He just rambles on during class and expects you to write down every word but none of it is on the test. READ THE BOOK. and if you have the choce, DO NOT TAKE HIM. I REPEAT, DO NOT TAKE. wait another semester for a good teacher if you have to!! His tests are ridiculous. essays have to be 1.5 pages, it won't count AT ALL if its like 1.4356757 instead
I had Mr. Melnick for intro to gov and intl; awhile back. He inspired me to attend law school and drove my career at UCF. He is amazing and deserves much credit. His knowledge is amazing, if you have a passion for Government, or a desire to attend law school, take him! I had him years ago but he absolutely changed my life. Take his courses.
Mr. Melnick is a good teacher and he has a lot of wisdom to share. A lot of people did poorly on the tests but that's because they didn't study. My lowest grade was an 83 and he drops the lowest grade. Take notes and the online textbook quizzes and you will be golden for his tests. He gets 75% of test from study guide provided for you.
Professor Melnick is a god. His creative teaching style, paired with his dashing looks and soothing voice, make him, perhaps, the greatest teacher of his time. A once-in-a-generation talent, Melnick "wows" students with his pure brilliance. If you have the opportunity to take just one of his courses, I highly recommend you do so. He is so choice.
Great class, great professor but if you come in with a poor mentality of what College is then... He gives long lectures but they are interesting. I also, learned a lot and things that are useful now this is not a class where you do not use any of what you have learned to work.
Very knowledgeable on the subject, and makes the class rigorous. The tests are the main point is class, and he provides you with 75% of the test weeks before the test is administered. The other 25% of the test is multiple choice, so as long as you pay attention, write good notes, and study the essay questions before each test then you should be ok.
You come to class (I arrived whenever) listen to him lecture from the book, and periodically he'd give a studyguide with about 15 questions you have to answer short response. He expects pretty reasonable work, atleast. Beware of the 15 page essay he tells you of the day of class for local state gov. He's a nice old guy, kinda boring, but you learn.
I wish I still needed a class he teaches. He is hilarious, gives great lectures, knows his stuff, and is surprisingly flexible with grades. Attendance isn't a big deal to him, but if you miss a class you miss a lot. Class lectures are almost everything. There are probably a lot of easier gov professors, but not a lot of better ones.
Amazing funny lectures and overall a great guy. If you are great at remembering information by the pages then this class is great for you. He gives you a study guide with all the questions on the test. Roughly 10-12 questions. 5 will be randomly selected for your test and each answer has to be about a half page to a page long. Don't? Good luck. -_-
First test I took I got a 0 despite having all the correct answers. When I asked him about it he said I needed it in paragraph form. The next test I did what he asked and I got a 61. He takes 12-15% off if you dont fill out an entire page plus. He doesnt use blackboard or email, puts in grades slowly and wont explain how to do better on the test
Don't get me wrong, he's actually a really cool guy and he's funny too. His lectures are God awful boring but he does make them fun sometimes. His tests he chooses 6 random questions out of 15 and you have to write a paragraph as long as the Burj Khalifa to even qualify to get a 60%. 20 students used to be in the class , now its a ghost town.
WORST I repeat WORST professor I've ever had. 2 term paper 10 pgs long, only 4 test (ESSAY tests 3-4 para for one question if its not long enough you fail only 6 questions on each test). You have to read everyday, he literally reads off of textbook for lecture doesn't stop and think you can keep up with notes. YOU WILL FAIL IF YOU TAKE HIM.
RUN. He's awful. Horrible experience, wouldn't wish it on anyone! I am an A student but couldn't ever seem to get above a 30 despite having the CORRECT ANSWERS! I'd rather take extra math classes and I hate math. I love Political Science/Government Everything but Professor Melnick is a nightmare! I don't wish him on anyone!
Most of the time the lessons are nonstop writing. He goes so fast and I could barely keep up even though I am a fast writer. He doesnt go over the multiple choice in the lessons so you have to read the chapters. You also have to be prepared to write 5-6 long essay questions for each test. I would only take him if you have no other hard classes.
Professor Melinek knows his stuff. Homework; not much 10 short article analysis paper and they can be fun and are spread out. There are six exams take a bit of studying and are pretty hard they include multiple choice, short essay, and long essay questions. Would not recommend if you do not like government! But if you do you will learn a lot.
Professor Melnick is definitely tough. He has been teaching since the 1960s so he has that old school lecture style of teaching. He really is not as bad as people say. This is just one of those classes where you can't be lazy. His grades are 6 chapter test in which he gives you all the answers to, and one project. If you are a P.S Major, take him
This guy doesn't have any clear scale of grading. He will ignore all emails and grade inquiries. He gave me a zero on an exam and claimed it wasn't completed at all. I emailed him for two months and got zero responses. Ended up with a C in the class because of this. His grades are totally at random and he is not accesible to students by any means.
This professor was not present for practically the entire semester. He did not do well with online tools. He was unable to timely open and close assignments and did not grade on time. He withdrew me from the class (on accident) a week before the final and I had to reach out to the dean of the department to get a resolution. Horrible experience.
if you are considering taking a history class, please do not take his class. This man cannot teach, gives terrible resources and grades only exams, which makes absolutely no sense
