He is alright.
if you dont like going to class, this class is perfect for you. stan stumbles his way through class, so that by the end you feel like your dumber than when you started. however, read the book, stay on top of your work and you'll make it through just fine.
I really enjoyed this class. Dr. Miles was the best instructor I had this semester. He is enthusiastic, easy going, and always very helpful. One could see that he was really trying to do a good job.
He's Amazing. The Department needs more professors, passionate towards the subject they teach, like him. The person with the negative comment -> what is your problem?? - how many lectures did you attend???
That was a useful course.
I liked his teaching style. Everyone else I know (in that course) liked his teaching style.
Very helpful. Classes go by quickly.
I like! :)
I think he makes an effort. Good stuff.
He needs to be Tougher!! Otherwise I am ok with this course. Fair midterm and marking style.
There is too much math in this course. However, the pace is alright.
he is not the best teacher but a realy good guy is always trying to help to make shure that you understand everything overall a good teacher

I agree with the comment that it would be better if he were tougher. The math in that course wasn't Too bad. Things got more straight forward towards the end of the course.
Pretty fresh off the turnip truck. Nice, nice guy. But dry as the desert. Final was astonishingly hard. I really wanted to drift off all classes.
That class wasn't bad. I disagree with the last comment - I remember that most of the questions on the midterms and the final in that course were covered during the lectures.
I am surprised noone mentioned that he scheduled office hours on the weekends before both of the midterms. That was kinda cool.
EASY PROF!!! midterms are hw questions and topics covered in lectures. he tells you what is and is not on the midterm. made stat a GPA booster for me...TAKE HIM IF YOU WANT TO DO GOOD. very calm, shy guy
HE IS THE BEST PROF @ TRU... EXPLAINS THINGS CLEARLY... MIDTERMS ARE VERY EASY AND EXACTLY SAME AS IN THE NOTES/TEXTBOOKS... A VERY RECOMMENDED PROF FOR STATS! +++++
Really easy, but he speaks very slow and is hard to understand.
He was too hard to understand, I chose to stop going to classes because he only confused me in class
I don't know why some people had problems. I could follow everything even when I had a hang over from hell. ;) If you go to class and take good notes (and then study them) you will do fine on the tests. Overall, he is good.
I don't have a problem with him at all. Which is unusual.
No reson to go to class, but pretty easy
Clear to the core, extremely helpful and good natured. Gem of a person. There you have it.
I lament there is no 6 for easiness because Stan would get it. Just go to class, take some notes, study for tests using notes, do review questions (he provides), and expect and A+. Stan is also very nice person who is very helpful. People make fun of the guy too much. Yea, I agree he is weird but he is a good instuctior and a good person, so show some respect people.
Very clear, multiple examples. Very good at explaining concepts. Keen on helping people learn. Very helpful. A big dork, but a very kind caring person, a great guy. Organized classes, clear on what is expected with respect to tests. Too easy though, should be a bit thougher. Moves through material slowly at times it seems. Stan is the man.
Showed up to maybe five lectures all semester and got an A+. When I did attend his lectures he was very clear explaining everything and would always make sure the class understood before moving on. I would recommend for sure.
Smart man, lousy teacher. hard to understand boring classes. good luck finding a good econ prof at TRU, charles anere is equally awful.

Don't listen to the lone negative comment. This instructor's lectures are interesting, and the grading is fair. I wish all of my classes this term were like his class.
Stan is the Man
Stan is an amazing teacher. He is extremely helpful and makes himself available to all of the students. DEFINITELY go to his office hours if you have any problems. He makes statistics doable and comprehensible (not an easy task). TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
As everyone has said, Stan is the man! Anything that you don't understand in his lectures he makes clear in a split second in his office hours. TONS of review for exams and he puts up practice midterms etc. which is EXTREMELY helpful. You've got practice problems from the textbook, EVERYTHING! DEFINITELY take his class!
Stan is and will continue to be the man. Nuff said.
Awesome prof! Very helpful and approachable, can't say that it's an easy course with him, but he tries to put as much knowledge into his students as he can. His intellectual level is over the roof, so take this class with him if you really want to learn the most from this course.
GREAT GREAT GREAT! Assignments were easy, midterms were fair, as was the final. Genuinely cares about his students and if there is ANYTHING you don't understand it can be cleared up in 10 minutes during his office hours. Posts extra office hours during exams and really wants his students to do well. Classes were GREAT!!!
Stan, AKA the Man, Has got to be one of the sweetest guys on the planet. He is one of those teachers that give you a true life benefit out of attending. As far as his teaching goes, he is excellent at explaining things and makes it his mission to help you. I honestly feel sorry for the saps that miss out on having this high quality of a professor.
GREAT GREAT GREAT! FELL IN LOVE WITH STATS! THANKS, STAN! YOU'RE THE MAN!
Good explanations. But he often assumes that his students are super familiar with statistics.
Stan is a stats superhero. Take his courses, you'll never regret!
B-O-R-I-N-G!
6/6 bretty good guy. I like the way he teaches.
Stan, or as I like to call him, Mr. Burns, is awesome! (Doesn't look like Burns, but his demeanor is close!) What a great prof. He truly wants you to do well. Do all of the homework, come to class and learn the examples and you will do well. It's not difficult material to grasp. Two midterms and a final.
Stan is awesome, very helpful,he provides past midterms and finals to study from. He also has an answer key for the problems from the book if you do these the exams will be easy for you.
Stans the man. I didn't like the course material and found it challenging, but I don't think you could find a better teacher. If you go to him for help he's such a cool and funny guy. His tests are fair which is a nice refresh from some of the teachers at TRU and he provides lots of practise questions with examples. Great!
Hi guyz, words are too small to describe his exceptional ability to make most of the difficult concepts easy.Always motivates and if u need any help,he is easily available. His assignments are very easy and he gives information about the topics that will be important in the exam. Not many teacher do that.Excellent teacher.Easily one of the best at TRU
Last 5 semester at TRU I maintained a CGPA of 3.5 but this semester my CGPA went down. He doesn't know what he is teaching, and his exams a super tough. Taking investment 1 course with him was my biggesttttttt mistake :( I am sorry but this is the truth
His priority are his students as he is Always willing to help. He certainly goes above and beyond his duties as an instructor. The material in this course is not easy, but if you are not able to get a B in his class, well you should just drop out now. If he were to teach underwater basket weaving I would want to take that class too!
Excellent at explaining statistics. Uses very few powerpoints (available but not used) and focuses on explaining the concepts in everyday scenarios and lot's of practice and work troughs on the board which really teaches how to solve the problems. Highly recommend.
Great prof. I took macroeconomics with him and did really well. In both midterms he gave extra marks to class because the average was unbelievably no, because no ever attended class. However he was super eager to help people and had a ton of office hours. Study the practice questions he posts because those are whats on the exam.
Clear, concise, exams are almost identical to practice.
Stan is a wonderful human being. I'm so glad I was able to have a class with such a nice Professor. He definitely wants his students to succeed and understand the material.
Good guy, but I can't understand his teaching style. He pulls old exam questions on the midterms. I've YouTubed most of the concepts in class so that I could understand them. He really tries hard to make you understand.
He is a very nice proff and wants to see each of his students succeed and will help in any way possible. Although his thick accent does make him hard to understand, he tries to use lots of examples in class and makes sure you know exactly what to expect on the tests.
very caring prof. always available to ask questions and does his best to clear up questions in class. created extra office hours near finals for students, only con is his accent, he sometimes misunderstands what the question is or has a hard time explaining it.
I found him to be scattered a lot of the time, and it could be hard to follow his examples. It was frustrating taking his tests since he tested way harder than what he gave as examples. Despite studying a lot for this class I still got mediocre marks and I'm normally a straight A student. I would never take him again.
Got an A+ with him. Easy to pass if you study and practice questions that he posted and take notes in the class.
Stan Miles is an amazing human being and even better Professor. You can skip reading from here on if you want to. Very approachable, flexible and gives you the opportunity to score more with bonus questions. I wish he still taught Stats courses too.
his midterms are extremely hard and the final is too hard hes matrials are hard to understand i dont think i would pass this course
Stan helped everyone by making a bunch of stuff bonus on midterms, but then turned around and gave a horribly hard final that dropped most people around 10%. Super nice guy, awesome office hours, but that final was a sucker punch to the gut. Dont put yourself through it. If you think you understand the content and youll be okay, think again.
Hes nice guy as person but his exam are too hard for someone whos in the first year in university. You at least need a diploma in Econ to answer hes questions in the final it was too long and very complicated you need to be really really smart to answer his exam a average student definitely going fail and it will bring down your self esteem
Please dont take his course if you are in the first year you will fail if you a average student not recommending him at all wont even recommend him even to a enemy
Do not take Econ 1950Reasons He doesnt know how to make papers His papers are extremely hard You will fail if you are a mediocre student
Test questions are much harder than in class examples, but he makes some questions bonus.
his final exam is much harder than anyone expected i would never take any of his classes again would not recommend to anyone ever
A good but confused professor. He can only teach through the set of papers that he brings otherwise he is lost. Sometimes his lectures are really unclear. Grading is tough but will compensate if the whole class does bad. Not a good choice if you really want to learn.
The lectures are clear, the exams are straightforward. He is kind and caring. If you study, you will do better than you had expected. I've never seen him being "lost". It appears that one or two people are posting multiple negative ratings. Scroll down for more accurate ratings.
He doesn't know the material
Stan Miles is one of the best instructors I've had at TRU. The person below got a bad grade in 1950 and thinks that he can evaluate the knowledge of someone with a Ph.D. in economics. He is lying about having to read a lot. Being graded by quizzes, assignments, midterms and final is NOT being graded by a few things!
He is the best professor for Statistics. Highly recommend him.
Stan is a nice guy that is for sure. Taking this class though made me realize that I didnt have to show to class. Very hard to understand much from the lectures. Taught myself the whole course basically with little help. Would not recommend asking questions as he gets iffy and nervous. Finals are terrible compared to anything, nothing is clear.
What an amazing instructor! All of his lectures were crystal clear. The midterms and the final exam were similar to the examples from class and the assignments. He is very helpful during his office hours. Every time I asked him questions over email, I got a detailed explanation within minutes. Outstanding.
Stan is a nice man but he is not the best prof. He can get really frazzled, especially when you ask him questions. This is a tough course and I know a lot of people felt that they had to teach themselves the material because the lectures weren't helpful. He does make an effort to be available for help outside class though. Wouldn't take him again.
Stan is a super awesome teacher. Makes extra office hours around exams. Puts up lots practice questions and practice exams. Do those and you will pass the tests. Very straight forward tests. Super nice and will answer any questions and never make you feel stupid. Genuinely wants you to pass. Would take him again.
Interesting lectures (many amazing examples that aren't from the textbook). You can tell that he cares about how well we do. It's an easy A or B if you study. If you don't study, it's an easy F.
Stan's a super nice guy, but if you have the option to not take his class, don't. The lectures did not make any sense (Stats 1), like he assumes we already know some of the basic stats stuff when we all really don't. He's super approachable and has a lot of office hours if you have questions, but not sure if it'll be 'answered'
A true gem of a professor.
Stan's online lectures were so boring and hard to listen to. He would post hours of lectures for us to watch every week, plus he had live lectures as well which weren't very helpful. He did give us tons of bonus marks because his tests were almost impossible to pass.
He rocks. Interesting lectures. Always willing to help students. Extremely accessible. More than once, he did not mind helping me online after midnight. You can tell that he cares about your understanding of the material and will help you get there.
I received no feedback on any work I completed in his class. He would not pull partial marks from the midterm questions, essentially meaning that if you do not complete it the exact way he wants it done, you will not receive anything from him. I would not recommend him to anyone.
If you go with him be ready to swallow the answer as he wrote because he gives total 0 out of 10 even if you have clear concepts. He wants the perfect answer.
Really good professor. I think the best for Statistics. You just need to study hard and do not miss homework.
Take no classes with him. He's only out to fail all. Passing exams is quite challenging. Terrible prof.
If you study it's easy to do extremely well in his classes. Apparently (see the comment below) if you don't study it's easy to fail. I've had a great experience with him. Whenever I asked for help his responses were detailed and actually helpful. Clear and interesting lectures. As good as it gets.
Stan is easily one of my favourite teachers in the SOBE at TRU. He is very helpful with students and has no problem helping outside of class. He is always available on email and will send you detailed answers to solutions. He teaches a lot in one lecture so attendance will be important always. Tests are similar to the in-class/homework questions.
Stan is a very smart man who knows his subject. Problem is, he doesn't know how to teach it. He is always very cluttered and all over the place. Rarely does he get a point across cleanly and in a way that is easy to learn. The exams are difficult and are graded harshly.
Miles had a very hard time teaching the subject. The lecture is very info heavy, and I found it very hard to take notes in class bc he was all over the place. When we would ask questions,he was unable to answer bc he got so confused easy, often even with himself. The assignments were long and even though I went to every class I couldn't do 85% of them
Of all of the professors I've had at TRU, Stan Miles is my favorite. He is an outstanding teacher: organized and clear lectures, plenty of practice questions, and fair and straightforward exams. He is great if you ask for help during his office hours and also responds to emails right away. As good as it gets.
He is an easy professor. Very nice person and always available for questions. He is trying hard to help his student to understand the concept. The exams are straight forward, if you study hard enough, you can do it. Professor is not the reason for your bad grade!!! :))))
Really good person and incredibly smart Prof. He tries his best to make sure his students succeed. The course material is challenging but if you focus on understanding you'll do well.
Hard to sit through every single class.
Professor Miles knows his stuff, but his teaching style can be hit or miss. To do well, you'll need to study hard and utilize all resources, including the free textbook and tools like unstuck ai. Attendance is mandatory, so engage in class for the best chance of success.
He knows his stuff and provides lots of practice questions online. Class is difficult to take notes on because he mostly provides examples for a new topic or concept, instead of explaining it. For written questions,if not answered exactly as he wants, good luck getting any credit. He mentioned the textbook was optional-it isnt, if you want to pass
Stanley can confuse himself in class, and will often be low-voiced and anxious. For people who can't stand that, he is not the best option. However he is very knowledgeable, and will try to help students with their grades with different alternatives.
Prof was ALL over the place. Half of the time he didn't know what he was talking about. Not prepared for classes. Every single test had at least 5 mistakes on it. Would not take his class again.
Best prof I've had at TRU. Loved being in his class. Clear, helpful, and organized. Gives lots of info about exams, so studying feels worth it. Fast email replies with detailed answers. Great in office hours. Grades are always out within two days, even for the final. Truly outstanding. His performance is incredible, no matter what criteria you use.
Amazing professor-does tend to be a little disorganized, but if you focus theres a lot of interesting material to learn. He uses relevant examples and will happily elaborate on concepts youre not clear in. Puts his students first and always available to help you out outside class. He will provide you with ample practice to excel in the course.
Enjoyable class, fond memories. Stan's lectures are clear, his expectations are reasonable, and he is kind.
